I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have a shared PCI/ISA slot on my MB. What (or better how) can I use this slot? I want to add a NIC for DSL but all my PCI's are in use by Firewire, SCSI, and sound cards? Can I use this shared slot for the NIC or swap out one of my others and use them in the shared??
Thanks for any help!
well, most PCI cards sohuld play nice nice with the shared slot. But i'm not to sure abuot that. I'm not sure if the sound card would like it though. You can probably just put the NIC in there
Just remember, i could be wrong.
I have an expansion slot, and I was wondering what goes in there? I know it's a stupid question, but I never hear much about it.
Hi, when i uprgrade the ram, i see on MB a expsansion slot, is a msata o a mini pcie? i want to put a ssd here if is possible. thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/question-on-expansion-slot-on-Mb/td-p/5835240
The PCI card (Adaptec 29160N RAID) is 32-bit but the expansion slot on the motherboard (Super Micro P4DPR-6GM+) is 64-bit 66MHz PCI (3.3V). The card's POST doesn't show up during boot. Is this because it's 32-bit and the slot is 64-bit?
What size are the screws for PC expansion slots? Are they 6-32 x 1/4"?

Do you guy knew if Dell E7250 is able to install ADDITIONAL ssd in M.2 Expansion Slots?
In the specification it's show there are free M.2 slot for WWAN or SSD.
If it's support what SSD M.2 model should i but 2242?
The additional slot referenced is in the E-dock expansion adapter - NOT the system. The system takes only one internal M.2 drive.
If you have (or purchase) the E-dock port adapter, you'll have the additional M.2 slot.
1. Expansion SlotWhat is the expansion slot specification for this model as we would like to add a dedicated graphics card with DisplayPort ? 2. MemoryHow many memory slots does it have on the motherboard ?What type of memory is required ?What is the maximum memory supported on the motherboard ?

Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country. With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit... There's a small expansion slot labelled PCIE1x1 next to the longer slot in which I've installed a graphics card. What can the smaller one be used for? Can it for example hold an SSD? Thanks,Tom
Go to Solution.
OK, Yes that is the one that I was Refering to... There was some boards that could connect to that slot I don't see any ATM but they were non Controller systems Plug in and some would be found. Some wouldn't So I think they have done away with them... One with a Controller like the one in my picture here.... Can be used for SDD and also an extra HDD off it as well. They have others that are just SSD and some that have 2 spaces for SSD on the card but may not work for your space as they are longer cards. There are also some that offer SSD, SATA and exta ESata out the back... It is all up to what you want and how much you like to spend.http://community.acer.com/t5/Aspire-Desktops/TC-705-EB53-expansion-slot-question/td-p/411193/jump-to/first-unread-message

Dear Forumer, I'm trying to use 2 graphic card via expansion slot to provides 2 display monitors however, the system only detect 1 graphic card even I installed two graphic cards. I'm using window 10, 64 bits OS. graphic card used1. 128MB ATI RADEONx600 SE2. NVIDIA Quodra 600 Please advice. Thanks
@Dr_Saiful?, welcome to the forum. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer. Beginning on Page 26 you will find the Workstation Specifications. In the specs it says that two video cards can be used as long as the required wattage is no more than 150W. I suspect that you may be exceeding the wattage of your power supply unit (PSU). Ok so, I fried my motherboard a while back and am just now getting an Abit barebone kit with a brand new motherboard and was wondering whether my DDR RDIMM will work in the new DDR2 RIMM memory expansion slots?
Abit Barbone Kit tech Info:
Diablo Black and Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with 400 Watt Power Supply
Abit LG-95Z Intel Socket 775 MicroATX Motherboard
Intel Celeron D 360 3.46GHz OEM Processor
Here is a link to the barebone kit at Tigerdirect.com:
No. You need ddr2 memory.
I want to add an expansion card to a new Tower 3620. I can get the box open to access to chassis just fine, but how does this black plastic cover on the expansion slots work. Looks like it's designed to make it easy to pop open all the slots at once, but it's way to clever for me to figure out. Hand me the big pliers!
When all else fails, read the manual (page 18-19).http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19984217
I ve got several excellent computer cases and a tight-fit on a PC system desk setup Typical problem is most all the PC quot connections quot to it are on the quot back quot amp on the expansion slot panel all jacks amp connectors are Ind standard As you ve probably figured out from my long Title above - I don t know what these extension arrays are actually called I have seen them usually threaded inside the PC case from the back or Mobo to the front Not knowing the correct omundo name for these things has made googling for um a lot harder What i d like is to extend the connections for at least all my Graphics card Audio in out jacks - and rear USB connections up to the front of the machine where they should be on all machines in the first place Actually Other than things like the NIC card and A C I d just as soon move quot all quot the quot user access quot connectors up front to the top the side where ever they would be actually quot accessable quot I m just tired of having to stand PC cable slot) case (expansion extension array on my head - with a flash light in hand - tangled in wires that i m not looking for - i m sure lots of you have been there Any ideas where I can find these things or a correct NAME for um I ll buy them individually if PC case (expansion slot) extension cable array i have to or a harness PC case (expansion slot) extension cable array with all the extended connections on it would be Ok with me Video connections extended up front might also be nice but with xVGA S-Video and a HDMI out really don t cause that much climbing over in the back Thanks guys GerryH nbsp
Usually, newer motherboards have extra headers for connecting
the front panel connections.
Afraid graphics and network usually don't have header extensions,
but something like this can get audio/usb firewire up front.
You need to find one to match the headers.
USB is standard but audio can be standard or HD.
I plug data cord into the SATA 2 slot. When I turned on the computer the drive sshowed up that it was only 746.39GB. Does my mother board model MS-7613 (lona-GL8E) support a 3TB Sata HD. I am planning to buy "HP Pavilion - 15-au111tx" . I want to know if this laptop comes with HDD + SSD (Hybrid storage). If not then tell me if it is upgradable to SSD if I want upgrade it in future. If none of the above options is applicable then please suggest me a laptop with all remaining specifications almost same and in addition which has SSD upgrade option.

Is there a ssd m.2 slot in the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ak112nl? Thanks
The Manual shows one: Manual See p. 45. But we have had reports that if you open the laptop there is in fact no M.2 slot and also in some cases that the M.2 port, if there is one, is disabled. Right now I cannot in good conscience advise anyone to attempt the upgrade. If you are an experienced technician and just happen to have an M.2 mSSD 2280 drive sitting around it might be an interesting exercise but I would not tell someone to go invest in such a drive for this model laptop right now. Your best bet is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Is-there-a-ssd-m-2-slot-in-the-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ak112nl/td-p/5725381
Hi I recently decided to upgrade my Paviliion g - el's RAM by adding a second GB RAM not slot el RAM working Pavilion g6-2333 I Pavilion g6-2333 el RAM slot not working inserted the new RAM in the secondary Pavilion g6-2333 el RAM slot not working RAM slot but the PC seemed unable to find it Fearing that I could've bought a RAM that was not compatible with my laptop I tried removing the original RAM and putting the new one in its place the new RAM was Pavilion g6-2333 el RAM slot not working correctly identified Seeing that the new RAM was indeed compatible I tried inserting the old one in the secondary slot and the result was the same the RAM was not seen by the PC nbsp I noticed the following about that secondary RAM slot The RAM seems to be inserting less deeply than in the other slot The RAM is very easily brought out of position when it's in that slot as in simply slightly touching it will make it fall out of the connector Unlike with the other slot when the metallic arms that keep the RAM in place are released the RAM doesn't pop out on its own nbsp Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be Is the connector broken or is it just that for some reason the RAM can't stay in placehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Pavilion-g6-2333-el-RAM-slot-not-working/td-p/5659295

It looks like a 3rd party driver to me (STOP 0x3B error).
please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:
How To Find Drivers:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
Here's the older drivers (You can look them up here: http://<a href="http://www.carrona.o...vrref.html</a> ).
Please pay particular attention to any dated 2008 or earlier:

SSPORT.sys Thu Aug 11 19:07:32 2005 - Samsung printer driver - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#SSPORT.sys
Since you're having troubles with SD/SDHC cards, I'd first suspect the Realtek Card reader drivers. Uninstall them immediately and replace with the latest Win7 drivers. DO NOT use Vista drivers - post back if you can't locate Win7 drivers. I believe that this is the correct driver from the HP site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...60372&sw_lang=
Then test to see if the crashes have stopped.
If the crashes continue, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.
So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).
Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

I'm going to buy HP Pavilion 14-ab042tx. But it has only 4 gb of ram preinstalled. I want to know if this notebook has an empty ram slot which i can use to upgrade it to 8 gb later. No such information is available at product specification page. Please help.
Yes. Here is the Service Manual: Manual It can take up to 16 gigs (2 x 8 gigs) of memory. Access to the memory slots is not easy and technically is only supposed to be done by an authorized technician but is doable if you are careful. You will jeopardize the warranty by opening the back however. See p. 33-37 for "how to". Post back if you need help finding compatible memory. Yesterday my USB drive Seagate Expansion Desktop TB failed in a strange way Let me describe the symptoms - When I power on the laptop with the disk attached the boot process or rather POST is very long The drive always spins up but in this case I only get a blinking light Nothing happens No access to the drive whatsoever - When I attach the drive to my already running laptop the disk spins up make a strange noise that is identical to removing the power from strange Desktop Seagate Expansion failure the disc then it spins down and the process repeats itself like times When the disk is fully spinning the drive Seagate Expansion Desktop strange failure is showing in My Computer and Disk Management but because it makes that power-lost sound it Iimmediately disappears and the process repeats itself I tried plugging it to my netbook - drive spins fine no quot reset quot but I can t install the driver It properly discovers the name of the drive but driver installation always fails I opened it and plugged it the USB to SATA card from the other disk It runs good no quot restarts quot but because those two discs use different USB connectors I can t see if it s working in Windows Any suggestions Is this failure fatal Can I recover the data from this drive I don t have any proper SATA motherboard so I can t connect the disk directly to check if it s working Thanks for any tips nbsp
Nothing strange there and that behavior is pretty common; external drives fail all the time and fail in various ways.
Best way to determine if its the hard drive or just the enclosure is to take it apart and try the drive by itself either by plugging it directly into a computer or with the use of a SATA to USB adapter. If you do not have access to either one you will need to find a friend who does or take it to local computer repair shop. It's impossible to say if the data can be recovered easily until you determine where the failure is. Even if the actual hard drive has failed there's always data recovery companies that can do it in most cases but that'll cost you.
Hi i have Titan Quest and it Titan Crash to expansion) (no quest Desktop used to work well if maybe a bit slowly on my old XP computer but now it crashes to desktop very often with my vista laptop Titan quest (no expansion) Crash to Desktop Now the first thing i noticed is that these crashes seem to happen when a certain animation is played when i swing my weapon a certain way Titan quest (no expansion) Crash to Desktop they used to happen for other reasons i think before but not as often There is no error message and my character is always saved so that when i reload the game I still have any new items and stats The second thing I found out as i looked a bit on the net is that people have gotten problems when they used realtek audio and they had to disable the hardware acceleration for the crashes to stop I even found a post on this forum from a guy that solved it that way the problem is he had XP and I have vista and the way he solves his problem through control pannel can t be done exactly the same way in vista here is his post http forums techguy org games -solved-titan-quest-problem-crashs html So I was really hoping for either a other solution or a way to do the same thing as Randomhero but on Vista Things I have already tried Compatibility mode running as administrator latest patch for the game version Also I would like to point out that I have a inch screened Acer laptop with Vista bit and seem to have realtek i think Now this post is too big if i include the dxdiag so i will attach it Thanks for any help and I will personally send many imaginary Christmas gifts to anyone that solves my problem Dan uge nbsp

Hi there For the past week I have been retrieving TB of movies from my Seagate TB Expansion Desk drive USB Expansion Seagate Desktop w/ Drive blocks/sectors bad 3TB It started acting funny after my room mate accidentally flipped the main power circuit for my bedroom while I was in the middle of a transfer Oddly enough I was in the middle of retrieving videos from a year old Verbatim GB which had an ongoing power circuit Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive 3TB w/ bad blocks/sectors issue when he flipped the switch I was salvaging those videos to this TB drive at that moment He killed that Verbatim dead to rights with the surge and I believe it caused the issues on this Seagate TB I can still transfer data to and from the Seagate anywhere from - MB s depending on if the other drive is a USB as well But it just will not play many movies and HD particularly bad I mainly use Kodi XBMC but have tried VLC and MPC All fail at the same points or close in the different players I assumed corrupt files but when I copy them to other drives then play them they work So I ran chkdsk I f r It ran thru quickly saying no issues Every indicator has shown the drive as healthy I ran the zero out option with a format in Partition Wizard Didn't help Frustrated last night I decided to run chkdsk I r one last time It hung at and thinking maybe its doing something I left it but it was going for nearly hours I finally cancelled the chkdsk and ran a surface test with Partition Wizard and now after an hour or so I am getting some bad blocks and Partition Wizard slows right down when it hits one So far three To add if I move the USB cable it sometimes clicks the drive off and it disappears from Windows I have had it show up in Partition Wizard as Bad Disk but after a reboot the drive shows up sharing and security settings all back intact I might reboot again and the drive simply won't show or might take ten minutes to pop up Then I might try and access the drive and get the warning quot You must format this drive quot but a reboot and its back This has led to a long week of data retrieval I've replaced the USB cable but it still can disconnect leading me to believe the receiver slot and its attached circuitry might be shorting or whatever as well This poor drive Its maybe just near a year and a half old not a scratch on it not making any funny sounds or nothing my newest one and was in fact a replacement for an HP TB that failed on me back then I've been at it off and on for a week or so now and Partition Wizard is currently showing hrs time remaining Am I wasting my time here Does it actually repair bad blocks and with the circuitry sensitivity is it worth the effort Would I be able to salvage the drive from the case maybe I am an avid computer and tech user but not expert on the hardware diagnosing end of things Should I just toss this thing
You can try downloading: /62506/CrystalDiskInfo6_3_2.zip
then unzip it and run to check if your HD is in good health then we can go from there.

Hi to all Seagate Model SRD F Win home prem bit I have had this external for over a year and it just recently started to respond very slow My aim is to save all the media files before this drive dies out or even solve the problem Maybe it wont die out yet but never know what may happen I have an older external and that still works When i plug the usb into laptop and other pcs the drive used to appear quickly but now what happens is it appears in device manager disk drives first but does not appear in my computer window It takes a long while for the drive icon to appear It normally shows also in disk Desktop 3tb slow Expansion extremely Seagate Drive responding management before it shows up in my computer window Next step is when its finally showing when i go into the external it takes a long while again to enter the drive The address bar turns green from left to right but moving very slowly as the external tries to open each folder I dont want to format or lose any data its the first time i came across this problem I brought a new usb cable Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive 3tb responding extremely slow and that did not solve the matter When it loads the files and folders im trying to copy all the files to desktop to save everything But the transfer speed is like below kb Its very slow The fastest its been is just over MB Another tip is when i plug in the cable the blue light turns on and the drive starts spinning and can hear the sound I thought the drive seemed ok but maybe the proffesional guys on here will have a better understanding on how to go about this situation Any help would be great If any info is needed just let me know and i will get back to you
Is my external dying? It takes a long time for windows to recognise it in my computer. Its starting to not show up in disk drives and disk management.
If it shows up its after a long time.
I backed up my files on Seagate Expansion desktop drive 2 TB with Vista operating prior to upgrading to Window 8.1
When I tried to retrieve my documents and pictures into Window 8.1 very few files are there and only a few documents and they are at least a year old. I have 10 or more backups on the expansion drive.
I have search Seagate with little help. I have thought maybe I should find a Vista machine and see if the files are there.
It appears to backup with 8.1 but I have not check specifically for documents in the 8.1 back up.
Any thought on getting all my document and pictures off the external hard drive back on the 8.1?
The operating system version you used should not matter, what does matter is HOW you backed up the files. Did you simply use a file manager and drag-and-drop the files to the drive? Or did you use a backup app -- and if so, which one?
If you only did the drag-and-drop you may have to resort to data recovery apps to get the files back. One such free one is "recuva".
I recently upgraded to windows 10. I purchased a 5TB Seagate External to back up my computer, and Windows is telling me there is not enough disk space for me to back up 900Gigs. Seems a bit odd. I have tried everything I can think of, but still I get
the "BackUp Failed " error message.
The computer says the drive has 4.54 TB unused, but still not enough space for backup and system image? What gives?
Hi all -- I've been browsing and this seems to be a place to get some expert help. I have 4-5 dump files (sorry, they are not mini, and about 285k in size)
BSOD errors range from 1e to "a"
Fair warning -- Lenovo has replaced the RAM (and is now passing memtest), and the harddrive, and I suspect the mobo is now tossing out errors.
May I post the actual dump files? Could it be one of the drivers for the integrated devices (sound, network) is killing me?
Or possibly the Nvidia 9800gt card that I installed after buying the PC? I feel like my only hope is to dive into these dump files.
Any and all help is completely appreciated!
If they are not minidumps, then you'll have to post them to a free file hosting site and then leave a link to them in your next post.http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/86880-lenovo-desktop-has-been-crashing-i-suspect-bad-ram-slot.html
I purchased what was described as a 'Dell 3588D Motherboard Slot 1 Dimension
XPS-B' motherboard from eBay. It uses Rambus memory sticks, but has 3
memory slots to fill, while every motherboard of that type I have researched only
has 2 memory slots. In addition, most of the Series B desktops I looked into
seem to be limited to 512MB of memory.
Because my motherboard has 3 memory slots, would I be allowed to insert three 256MB memory sticks, giving me a total memory of 768MB? I'm told that you should
not exceed the required limit of memory. Would someone care to comment on my
Just try it, it'll either work or it won't work.

My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (RealtekŪ ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.
This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past years of using computers I have an Acer Aspire - laptop that came with windows but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and won't mouse USB slot USB first other in works any slot, in only work but USB downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot it will refuse to work in the other USB slots I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB which is my favorite mouse and I USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot have of them at home When I was formatting the laptop USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in If I plug it into the other usb slots the red laser will come on which means it's getting power but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything When I have the Device Manager open and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mouse into the first USB slot the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab However when plugging the mouse into the other usb slots the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab I could just go about my business using the first usb slot for the mouse but this little strange problem is pissing me off hugely as I might want to switch the mouse to another USB slot based on how I have the laptop positioned on a desk or other surface I should also note that the 'Human Interface Devices' tab has a 'HID compliant device' entry in it that isn't present on my desktop computer and my mouse works on any of the usb slots on my desktop computer I wonder if this is the problem I tried disabling this entry but it doesn't help any A final point to note is that I have many other usb devices such as flash memory sticks camera card readers external harddrives gps devices and they all work perfectly fine no matter which usb slot they are plugged into Very strange indeed Is there anyway to make my mouse work in any of the other USB slots
I have seen a similar problem, but it was all USB ports that weren't working.
First, check the BIOS to make sure all USB ports are enabled, which they probably are.
Are all drivers installed and up to date? Do any yellow question marks or exclamation points show up in Device Manager?
ok the lady I got this comp from says the comp the video card its reading now is not as good as the one in the PCI slot so Im wondering how do I make it so it reads the PCI slot
The AGP vid card though comes out with a Adaptor to make it so you can plug in moniters
Anyway Should I leave my moniter plug in the AGP slot video card or put it where no video card is but goes right into the computer
and no there is no plug that goes into the PCI slot
I hope this is understanable

That's known as integrated graphics, now do you have a PCI video card and an APG video card or an Integrated video card and an AGP card?
Also what are they Radeon xxxx? or Nvidia xxxx? we need to know the model numbers to tell you which is the better on to use.
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?
The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.
You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.
Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?
i have had trouble with my computer after cleaning it (can of compressed air) it would boot to log in screen then go black on the monitor or it would blue screen and restart.
after figuring out it was a RAM problem i tried another stick of RAM but same problem so i guess its the actual slot it goes into, i only have 2 on my motherboard lucky one of them is working still.
has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it, i am wondering if some of the canned air/gas became a liquid from spraying to close and got in it.
any help would be appreciated thanks.
ok so i have been looking into my problem more, when booting i press tab to show the POST?? or somthing and it says that 1 of the RAMs wouldnt/couldnt R/W (read write?? i dont know)
then i get the screen saying that windows has had hardware changes and asking to how i want to start windows (normal, safe mode, etc) i have tried all but it just restarts.
now its only with 1 of the 2 dimm slots this happens and i have tried differend RAM in there but only the 1 slot works
any help would be appreciated

I'm looking for Windows 98 device drivers for a HP pavilion 8500 desktop pc. I'm also looking for parts as well. I've had my dv7 for nearly two years, and it has worked well the entire time. Recently within the last month, when preforming normal tasks like browsing the web or watching videos, the CPU usage would spike to 100% and stay there, rendering the computer useless. Every time this happens I would shut it down and wait a full day. This allowed for about 15 minutes of smooth running time before another spike.
I have run CCleaner, two full system scans using Norton 360 to no avail, updated all BIOS, cleaned out the fan and heatsink, and checked the power settings to see if the processor had been changed to use a minimum 100%.
Processor: Intel i5 M 460 @ 2.53 GHz
OS: Win7 64Bit

ASUS M2N68-LA (Narra2) motherboard
Anyone familiar with this model and know the best way to reset the bios? I have moved the jumper, taken out the battery and unplugged it many times. It works, but I have to wait a while. The reset button looks bent, and Im scared it will break off(from experience). The problem is, I get it reset, and make my changes in the bios, and it only boots into (what i call)standby mode. The fan runs, but no video. I have taken out the new vid card. This happened when the power cut off. Its happened before to this machine and others with Asus boards that Ive had here. Its just always a major pain to get everything back on and get video back up. It has a good power supply, and not the Bestec one that came with it. Is there a trick here I dont know? Thanks in advance
I have not modified the hardware in any way. My BIOS Version is AMI A0.12. Tell if any more details are needed. I need to know if I can run an Nvidia GTX 950 in the PC. If not, what Nvidia GTX Cards can I run? Thanks in advance.
Hi, The HP model number in the title needs correction. The GTX 950 should work in your PC providing you have the correct power supply. A 500 watt PSU would work. Do some measuing inside and make sure that your particular graphics card choice will fit.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/I-Have-A-HP-Pavilion-550-180-160se-Desktop-Can-I-Run-An/td-p/5684847
I've scoured the Internet only to find no real fix for my problem. My computer only boots to the HP Splash screen. Upon running the Diagnostics F9 an error message appeared: error code BIOHD-2. This code means something different depending on who you ask or where you get your information. I've replaced the HD, results end the same way - Splash Screen Only. I tried to buy a recovery CD since I didnt think to make one ,and was informed by HP that the Disk was no longer available because my PC is over 6 years old. I would really appreciate some advice on how to move forward with my computer or if anyone can kindly tell me where I could buy a recovery CD.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/HP-Pavilion-p6404y-Desktop-PC/td-p/5665478

My desktop computer won't turn on. It was running fine this morning, shut down normally. About 8 hours later I went to turn it on, but nothing.
The green light on the back is on. (I don't know what that means, honestly, I'm very much a layperson with this.) I switched out the power cord, but it didn't help. The surge protector it's plugged into is fine and shows no signs of a recent surge causing a problem, but just in case I plugged the computer directly into the wall, no result.
I was recently posting over in the Security forums for some trojan issues, but they were resolved several days ago. I don't think this is a virus issue at all. The computer is 3 1/2 years old.
If you have any suggestions, I would be very grateful!
HP pavilion desktop with Windows 7 os. A virus popped up on my computer and forced me to do a hard shutdown. I reopened in safe mode and the desktop reverted to default settings. I'm not sure where the virus went or how to remove it. Any suggestions are appreciated

I've got a user who's a pretty good distance from me, who's pavillion slim line 400-434 is giving him the 511 CPU fan not detected error on startup. My first instinct was to pick up a fan & head on out there, but from what I can tell, that PC uses a Nutmeg-P motherboard, where CPU is soldered to the motherboard, making me think this may not be a fan I can just run into a Fry's & pick up a replacement. Can anyone confirm this & tell me what my options are? Thanks!
mikey59 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I maintain some older HP PCs for folks, and in the last several months, I've seen this same problem on ALL of them! And in ALL cases, both the CPU fan and case fan are working fine! This is some kind of fault in the BIOS that claims the CASE fan is not running. If you go into the BIOS hardware monitoring section, you will either see no case fan listed, or you will see a fan speed of ZERO. In my cases, the case fan was listed and ALL reported fan speeds of ZERO. I tried different fans, and no change -- so obviously, this is a flaw in the BIOS error reporting logic. The way to "fix" this is to disable the message -- and to do that, you have to go into the BIOS advanced setting and if case fan monitoring is enabled, you Disable it.Good Luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/HP-Pavilion-400-434-Desktop-511-CPU-fan-not-detected/td-p/5786619
i want to know of the HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-201nx is upgradable to the gtx 1070?
@saaddx?, welcome to the forum. Yes, if the card will fit into the space where the card will be installed it should work. However, with that said, you will first have to check to see if there is enough space for a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade. The 180W PSU that is installed is not near enough power for the GTX 1080. I recommend at least 550W. Also, you should check the motherboard to assure that it has a standard 24 pin ATX power connector. I like Corsair products. A modular PSU is good for smaller mid-size cases. You only have to install the cables that are absolutely necessary. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/i-want-to-know-of-the-HP-Pavilion-Desktop-550-201nx-is/td-p/5741612
I have a HP Pavilion a6648f desktop. It doesn't get past the blue HP screen and doesn't give the 'beep' that it usually does when it starts running Vista. I have read that it might be a hard drive failure and I should disconnect that and run it from boot disks.
I called HP and the person I spoke to said he thought it sounded more like a RAM or motherboard issue. I don't feel like paying $40+ for the boot disks and finding out they won't help, especially since it seems ridiculous that it didn't come with boot disks.
Does anyone have any opinions for me?

You can't add a slot to a motherboard.
How old is this computer that it doesn't have a PCI slot? Those have been around for quite a while. Are you sure it doesn't have one? Even AGP is not new technology.
EDIT: After seeing your other thread, are you asking if you can purchase an AGP or PCI video card? That's a totally different question, and the answer would be yes depending on which slot your motherboard has. How much it costs depends on what you plan to use the computer for. A simple one is cheap, and high-end gaming cards can get expensive.

Hi, so I recently bought a SSD (PNY CS1311 120GB 2.5" SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - (SSD7CS1311-120-RB)). I want to install it into my HP Pavilion 550-A17C Desktop PC with AMD A8-6410 Processor, 8GB Memory, 2TB HDD. I would like to install the SSD along side the HHD, with the SSD as my boot disk, and the HDD for storage. I have a few questions:In my computer, do I need to buy a 2.5 inch to a 3.5 inch mount, or would a 2.5 inch mount be ok?What type of SATA cable do I need to connect it?Should I clone the HDD when setting up? Or is there a better approach? Thanks in advance.
AFL2016 I've done the "migrate to SSD" bit, so let me comment on just that part. You will NOT be able to "clone" the 2TB HDD to an SSD simply because "cloning" means to make an exact copy of the original, and you obviously can not copy a 2TB drive to a much smaller SSD. However, you can "migrate" the OS from the HDD to the SSD, it just takes some work to make it happen. First this you have to do is use Disk Management to shrink down the OS partition on your HDD until the total of the size of that partition, and all other partitions on that drive, are small enough to fit on the SSD -- with about 10% to spare. Second thing is to download and install Macrium Reflect on your PC. This is a free partitioning tool that will allow you to then "clone" the contents of the HDD onto the SDD. Notice I put clone in quotes because what it actually is doing is copying all the partitions from the HDD to the SDD -- so the end result is the same as if you "cloned" the drive. Then, do the following:1) Connect the SSD to the PC using a USB drive adapter2) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk3) Shutdown the PC when done4) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.You should boot from the new drive without any problems.Good Luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Installing-SSD-into-HP-Pavilion-550-A17C-Desktop-PC-with-AMD/td-p/5695582
My old (5 years) HP Pavilion desktop with Windows XP still boots and can print items that are on the computer but will not connect to the Internet.... When I check the programs on the HP the modem shows as being installed but will not connect ..... Any suggestions? Is a new modem difficult to install? Or too expensive to install on an old computer??
Built in modems are usually for dial up over the phone line.
Are you using dialup internet service?
If not, your computer needs to be connected to your current
cable or DSL connection with a network cable to your router
or external modem.
If you connect that modem by USB you will probably have to install the driver software.
I am setting up a brand new Pavilion desktop. This is the slowest computer I've ever owned! When I have no programs running, the CPU usage stays at over 60%. When I open one web browser window, the CPU usage spikes to 100% and stays very high. Response time for the mouse is extremely sluggish. When I open Microsoft Word or Photoshop, the performance is absolutely horrible. I haven't done anything weird to this new computer, just installed Microsoft Office and Adobe software, as well as an antivirus program. Has anyone else had problems with such horrible performance with a brand new computer? I am likely going to just return it for a refund unless there is an instand and easy solution to this awful performance.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions/New-Pavilion-desktop-is-ridiculously-slow/td-p/5734253

Hi: You can use all of the W7 x64 motherboard drivers and the wireless card driver from this model at the link below. Your model needs the Intel HD graphics driver. Thank you for the additional information. No, you can only create one copy of the Recovery media. However, you may be able to buy the media from HP. If you decide to do a complete install, check here first to assure that the software and drivers are available. Hello, due to poor response in the spanish hp forum...(they told me to install back win 8.1, but DirectX12 is NOT on 8.1, poor response). Question is: Can I have a DIRECT X 12 driver for my Pavillion Radeon Card. System has an AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics Can you point to such driver file if exists? Thanks for helping!
Hi: According to the motherboard specs for your PC it only supports DirectX 11. Look under the graphics section. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-500-100-Desktop-PC-series/5395585/model/6528112/docu... If you still have W10 on your PC, the only suggestion I can offer would be to install the W10 graphics driver directly from AMD. You want the 1st file listed on the webpage. Install and restart the PC. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows%2010%20-%2064http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/PC-Desktop-HP-Pavilion-500-138es-amp-DirectX12/td-p/5777227

Hello TNClodhopper44, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I have read your post on how you are looking to upgrade your computer, and I would be happy to assist you! According to the HP Pavilion HPE h8-1230z Product Specifications and Configurable Options guide, the maximum amount of memory you can install on your motherboard is 16GB (4 x 4 GB) on your 64-bit OS. If you need to, you can use the Upgrading and Servicing Guide for steps on how to replace the RAM. For setting up an SSD for Windows 7 Professional, I suggest taking a look at this document About Solid State Hard Drives as well as How to Install an SSD (Solid State Drive). This should help guide you through installation and setup of your SSD. Unfortunately, I am not able to locate any modifications that would allow your motherboard to access devices requiring USB 3.0. I hope this helps! Best Regardshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-Desktop-HPE-Model-h8-1230z/td-p/4049484

It sounds like Windows may be corrupted or failing. Is there a recovery partition installed or do you have a reinstallation DVD? Please boot from the recovery partition/DVD and select Repair your computer from the installation screen. Select your Windows partition and click Next, then open a command prompt and run sfc /scannow. It may take a while, but just let the scan run until it finishes. Let us know if it finds any errors and if you're able to boot into Windows after. Good luck to you.

Thank you kindly for any assistance you can offer.
It is always important to mention your original OS.In your case, the h8-1230z circa Feb 2011 would be a Legacy BIOS v7.16 machine, and not capable of accepting a UEFI vBIOS (v8+) upgrade. With that said, your limited to only cards that are Legacy or have a hybrid BIOS (having a micro switch) to toggle either Legacy or UEFI. Please consult this page. MSI makes hybrid cards, and their N750Ti series fits your inquiry.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Re-HP-Pavilion-Desktop-HPE-Model-h8-1230z/td-p/5647751

I can not boot the the system in to safe mode. Esc, F1, F2, F8 all boot normal . Control Panel -> Admin Tools-> Ssyetm Configuration will not let me se Safe Mode! Any ideas? Thasnk in advance, Paul
Getting into Safe Mode sometimes is tricky. Depending on the Windows version, sometimes it won't show you a chance before it is too late. What I tell people - as soon as the computer starts to start, start tapping F8. Do not hold or only tap once but tapping about every 1/2 second on F8 until Windows gives you a choice to pick safe mode, normal start, previous good configuration ETC. Then pick just safe mode by scrolling thru the coices until that is highlighted. The hit enter. If you get the Windows is starting screen, it is too late. You missed the chance. Plan on starting over.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Cant-Boot-Hp-Pavilion-Desktop-in-Safe-Mode/td-p/4514828
