Preferred Solution: Completely reset all network properties?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now I cannot remember what they were originally and cannot speak over Ventrilo.
I have tried a number of things, but simply cannot return them to their defaults so I can talk once again.
Any help would be appreciated greatly
Thanks in advance.

It was recently snowing, ALOT, so my internet along with my cable went out. Now its back but, when I opened Firefox everything completely reset. My bookmarks were gone, my tool bars that I installed weren't there, and the "Welcome to Firefox" Screen even popped up. Also, when I try and make bookmarks, it becomes stupid and doesn't allow me to make them. So I ask you, HELP ME!

A:Completely Reset

Are you familiar with working with Profiles (do you know where it is located)? Curing this problem will involve some work in this area. If Firefox shuts down badly because of a power cut or computer crash, the default Profile can become corrupted or locked. Did you get a 'Profile in use' message at any time? In any event, it would seem that Firefox has created a new Profile and is using this instead of the one that was in use before the power cut. Perhaps the first thing to do would be to try and find the original one.

Make sure that any entry for Firefox in 'Task Manager' is shut down. Then type firefox.exe -p (note the space) into the Start > Run box and press Enter. Is there more than one Profile listed? If so, open them in turn to see which one of them contains your bookmarks and settings. Once the right one is found, choose to always open Firefox using that Profile (you could delete any other). If the problem is more involved than that, there is a Mozilla page here that describes some more steps.

If you don't want to bother finding the problem with the existing Profile, you could just use the new one that Firefox has been using since the power cut and customise it to requirements. You would still need to find your bookmarks and import them into the new Profile though.

Put out a Windows search for the file called 'bookmarks.html'. You will find more than one copy if there is more than one Profile. Double-click on each to open them in the browser to see if the bookmarks are present. If you can't find a 'bookmarks.html' file with your bookmarks listed in it, search for a file(s) called 'bookmarks.bak'. Rename to bookmarks.html and open them to see if the bookmarks are in there. If they don't contain your bookmarks, look for a folder called 'bookmarkbackups' There should be four recent copies of your bookmarks in there. Bear in mind that if there will be a more than one instance of the folder if there is more than one Profile. Look in all of them. When (or if) you find the correct file, make a back-up of it and store it safely somewhere away from the Firefox directories. This file can then be copied and pasted into the correct location in the new Profile (let it overwrite the existing one), or you can open the browser and use the Bookmarks Manager to import the bookmarks file into the new Profile.

I had to reimage my sons computer because of a virus. After reinstalling windows xp the monitor was set to default setting. The setting is so large you can't scroll to the buttons needed to reset the display to a smaller setting. The question is .... How can I reset the display to a smaller setting with out going through the gui in windows?

Thanks Brent

A:Monitor display properties reset and can't change them

Hi Brent and welcome to TSF !

You'll need to reinstall your video drivers before you'll be able to change the resolution.

Else you can use tab to move from an option to the other, the arrow keys to move the resolution cursor, and enter to validate (when you're on ok, or apply). Do it on another computer at the same time so you can guess where you are if you really can't see but a tiny bit of the window.

I was trying to set up an ad hoc network and toyed around with some of the wireless network settings. The network I was trying to set up didn't quite work out so I tried to set it back to how they were but forgot how they were.

Is there a way to delete the Wireless Network Connection and let it create a new one or is there a "standard" setting for this to strictly find a wireless network and connect to it?

I am running Windows XP Pro.

Any help or questions would be appreciated

Is there a way to completely reset HomeGroup feature without reinstalling OS?

I created a homegroup on one computer, but there were troubles with it (computers did not see each other etc.), so I deleted homegroup.

But problem is that it shows me "you have been invited to join a homegroup", despite that all computers are already disconnected from that homegroup (it does not exist anymore). So I cannot create new homegroup on that computer.

I have tried to clear C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking folder, but that did nothing.

Computer with an issue is connected via cable.

A:Completely reset HomeGroup

Hello mate,

Homegroup will function that way. It will see that another computer is on the local network and ask if you want to link them. It doesn't matter which computer starts the connection. If one computer askes to "join", then the other will not. If you do want to connect, click join. if not, don't worry over it. If it asks to join, you AREN'T connected to a homegroup (at least with that computer)

If ever you see something that reads "Leave homegroup", then click it to leave.

so i got my brother's old computer and i want to reset it to brand new, but i don't have the discs that came with it. he got it in 2001, so it's not brand new but it's much better than my previous pentium2. anyway, it's a dell dimension 4400 desktop and i want to do a factory reset to erase anything of his info that might still be on it, but i have no cd's and haven't had any luck searching the internet. everything i've found so far says to use 'Dell PC Restore by Symantec' but their instructions don't work because it was shipped before 2004. i've also talked to a friend about something called the restore partition but had no luck finding info about it. is there a way to make a boot disc or something?

A:How can I completely reset a Dell 2350 router?

Try hardreset of the router, unplug it and wait thirty seconds then plug it back in. Once its powered up, go to start, run, type in cmd, hit enter, then type in ipconfig. It will give you a seires of numbers for your default gateway. Open IE and then put that string of numbers into the address bar and that should bring up the router page. You can configure it from there.

Hi You can boot from a live CD/DVD or USB flash disk such as Kubuntu (KDE flavour of Ubuntu) and delete his user folder. Download the 64-bit version if you have at least 4GB of RAM or 32-bit if you have less than 4GB RAM. Burn the iso disc image to DVD or create a bootable USB flash disk using Rufus, then boot from the created media and choose to try Kubuntu (loads a live os that runs from the media instead of installing it). You can then browse the contents of the hard disk and delete your brother's user folder. That should free up a good amount of storage and allow Windows to load properly. Once you're back in Windows, you can free up more space using Disk Cleanup, deleting all except the most recent restore point and disable hibernate. To disable hibernate, open an elevated Command Prompt (Admin) and type POWERCFG -H OFF then press Enter.
As for recovery/factory reset, let's see if the OEM recovery partition is still present on the hard disk. Open Disk Management (right-click the start button) and post a screenshot showing all the partitions present on the disk.

Good evening,I've purchased a Lenovo ideapad 700 (a pretty high performance laptop) almost one month ago and in this month i've noticed a very annoying issue, the keyboard stops working randomly. In one month this happened 6-7 times, no one of the keys responds and the only way is to Hard shut down pressing the power button for 10 seconds, then it returns back to normal.Fact is, i use this pc also for gaming and i press keys pretty fast, is there a combination of keys that shut down the keyboard completely? Is the driver outdated/corrupted? Am i pressing keys faster than processor's response time? Thanks if everyone want to reply, btw i'm really considering the possibility to return the product if the issue is not resolved.

Today, I turned on my secondary laptop (which hasn't been used in months) was greeted with a start up error which ended up needing to repair the "SYSTEM" boot partition . Now I got the system running but can't get any adapters to work. When I first logged in every network adapter had code 31(could not load driver). I was able to get around that by manually uninstalling each on and letting it re-install. Now each adapter has no properties so there is no internet connection at all. I mentioned the start up problem because I am not sure if the two are related at all.

I Network adapter properties could really use some help I have figured out what is causing my issue and will explain the best I can Relatively new network with wired desktop and wireless laptop through Netgear router I narrowed the issue down to Power Management of Network adapter properties the Wireless Network Adapter If the Wireless Network Adapter is set to its default properties including Power Management-- gt Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power when I fire up the laptop it connects right away but the problem is the Network Map is not correct the laptop doesn't show it's information including IPv If I manually uncheck and recheck the TCP Network adapter properties IPv box under Networking the network disconnects and reconnects and the map is good with the laptop showing its IPv address But if it goes back to sleep the next time it wakes Network adapter properties up and connects the map will be wrong So if I disable Power Management-- gt Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power the network map appears correct and the laptop shows it's IPv info problem is and it's a big one it takes one to two minutes to connect to the router So either I live with the wrong Network Map everything still is networked as I am using Homegroup or I live with a delayed connection to my wireless but the Network Map is correct This is a new laptop and I already reinstalled the Wireless Adapter there are no updates to the drivers I'm tempted to to do something related to TCP IP Perhaps reset it to default since there does seem to be some relationship to the IPv setting But I just don't know what to do at this point I'd really appreciate any help

If I change the folder properties accessing a shared folder (say pictures) over my home network, will it alter the folder's properties on the drive on which it resides or just the folder on the machine I am using to access the folder?

I am accessing my pictures folder on my desktop from my laptop from the other side of my house. The pictures and videos folders are set to "general items", the customize tab of the properties on the folder is set to "general items" when I access it from the laptop. If I switch the pictures to "pictures" and videos to "videos" on the laptop, will it alter the folder in the desktop on which the folder resides?

Hi, I'm stumped as to why Explorer crashes whenever I try to view properties on any of my network connections. Its quite possible that I've messed something up in one of many tweaks. I just don't know when it happened.

The event viewer shows the following error:

"Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2649, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.2180, fault address 0x00037e9f."

Is it possible to re-install just the networking components for WinXP, or do I have to do a full fresh install?

What can be keeping me from accessing Network Properties of my Dial-up?
I open the shortcut icon, then right-click on my dial-up, but nothing happens.
I have a working thread going ( in this forum titled Possible Bug? ) regarding a problem with Generic Host Process errors, and need to get into the properties to enable the simple Windows firewall, in SP1. I've tried in Safe Mode too.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you for your time,

A:Solved: Can't Access Network Properties

You will need to delete and recreate your dial-up connection. Make sure you save any phone numbers that it dials and any usernames/passwords.

I used to work tech support for earthlink, and that was the only thing we could do to resolve this issue.

I’m using Windows 2000 server, the NIC card as 2 ip address I’m trying to remove one of the address as I moved the Web Page to a different computer But when I right click on the network neighborhood I get the hourglass for 3 sec. And then nothing. I tried restarting the server in safe mode with network support (same result). I tried replacing the NIC Still I could not access the TCP/IP configuration. I’m wondering if there is a way to remove the address from the command prompt or some other way.

Thank you.

I've had real trouble locating this particular window in Windows 10. The only way I can get to it is if I create a manual entry for a wireless network. In Windows 7 you used to be able to get to it for existing wireless networks that I had previously connected to. Does anyone have any idea how to get to it? Many thanks

When I go to my network connections and attempt to display the properties of my dial up modem properties(my default internet connection with MSN) that I can enable the firewall...nothing happens. Nothing. The computer doesn't hang, no error message pops up. It just doesn't respond. I have tried several times with this problem. Microsoft had me uninstall all of my network connections and then reinstall to see if that changed anything...but nothing. I had this issue once before but can't remember what I did to correct it.
I'm running Win XP on an AMD 850 Athlon PC Clone with 512MB RAM, with a 100GB HD.
If anyone has encountered this or can offer any help I'd be very grateful.

Has anyone seen an issue with trying to access the properties of a network share and getting absolutely nothing? Just upgraded to Win10 from 7. We are in a windows 2008 domain with 2012 and Win 10 machines.
We have regular accounts and admin accounts. The regular account can see get properties for the folders/shares that it has access to. The admin account, when run using "run as a different user" cannot generate the properties dialog box at all. This worked fine on Win 7.

Any ideas?

This is a fairly new install of Windows 8 pro (within the last month), and while trying to set up a static ip up today I found that I was unable to access the network properties or disable the connection in the Network Connections. I am pretty stumped as I am the only user of this computer and from what I can tell have the correct permissions to do so. When trying to check the properties it tells me "an unexpected error has occurred" with no further information.

Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?

A:Unable to access properties of my network connection.

It sounds like you aren't using an Admin account on this machine.

Under Computer Management, Local Users and Groups>Users, you should see your name there, under the Member Of' Tab, you should be listed at a member of the Administrators and Home Users. You can add the credentials if you aren't.

The wireless network properties box is missing. I have a Satellite pro 4600 with Linksys card for wireless and every thing worked once before. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and rebuilt the system. After installing the Cisco PEAP supplicant software to be able to logon at the college the box is now missing. I've tracked the problem to the PEAP software overwriting files on Win2000 sp4.
Or so the masters at M/S claim. Their advice was to reinstall Sp4. This didn't work. All of the information I have for configuring wireless cards for Win2000 show this box and it was there the firt time I set up the system. I have reformatted the hard drive twice then Installed Win2000 pro and the Sp3 and Sp4 using two different Install cds. I did not install the PEAP supplicant and still no box.

Thanks Rezehk

HI all am trying to change the ip address manually. to unbrick my router. so I go to my network and click properties to change the tcp ect. and the famous Unexpected error accured pops up. I try all the regsvr32 ect. stuff and nothing works. I have windows 8 pro. those anyone know how to fix this?

A:An Unexpected error accured Network properties

Is it really bricked or is it in limbo? I had one I thought was bricked, turns out i just had to wait it out to finish the firmware upgrade.

What model router is it?

Were you trying to install DD-WRT?

if you think that its just a configuration problem, then go to device manager and uninstall your network driver, then click on the action tab on top and click scan for hardware changes, and let windows reinstall them in their default settings. Now try your custom IP.

Did you do the 30-30-30 reset? (press and hold the reset button for 30 secs, unplug router, wait 30 secs, plug router in while still holding the reset, then after 30 more secs, release the reset.) Do not release the reset at any time, til the end.

If it has not completed the firmware upgrade then do not do the 30-30-30 reset until its done..

I already have followed all the known troubleshoot procedures:

However, the Network ID remains greyed out.

Anybody can bring new lights on these.

Please run ?Services.msc? and navigate to Workstation service; ensure the service is enabled and started, or restart the service. Then try again.

Try using a domain administrator account (regarding appropriate permissions for network administration).
The local administrator account only has administrative access to local resources on the PC - i.e. does not have administrative privileges on the network
Regarding access and use of a domain administrator account:
I.e. you're a user at your company - so you should contact your companys system administrator regarding company policy.

I.e. if this is BYOD (your own device) it will probably not be joined to the domain.
If its a company workstation (laptop) - he will rejoin it to the domain.

As a rule of thumb - and may be confusing you here, do not expect yourself - even though a superuser with local administrative privileges - to finalize redeployment of windows, apps and data in a company domain. I.e. in a company you usually don't control access to payrolls etc. (you should not have that kind of administrative configuration access - even if a company owner you could mess things up giving "unauthorized" access. Even a domain administrative account is not used as a "user" account - only configuration). I.e. with user accounts i.e. local administrator you don't control access to private network ressources in the company. I.e. you cannot join network ressources - joining to a domain means connecting with the private web service in the company basically controlling identification and internal access to company wide resources. So that service hides some complexity as well.

Delegate the job to your companys system administrator and let him complete the work if this is a company workstation
... that you may have reinstalled yourself using the local administrator account without using the companys deployment services - i.e. automated deployment (i.e. PXE network boot to the companys Windows Deployment Services or Symantec Altiris etc.). If no automated deployment is available at your company then the component (responsibility) of deployment services are manually executed by the system administrator (automated deployment availability at your company will typically depend upon complexity i.e. the number of computers owned by your company - but even for a small number of workstations the benefit of Windows Deployment Services is great ...)
Basically, the finalization of software configuration for a company managed computer must in part be managed by the system administrator, i.e. rejoining the computer to a domain - which effectively means the administration of the computer from this point on is delegated to the domain controller and thus automated management of i.e. authentication and authorizations.

Is there a freeware program to view WZC profile information from the command line? I found one that allows you to display the profiles themselves, however to display the profile properties I haven't found one.

I could also use direct registry edits if I had to, using the reg command. The problem being, that it would appear that the information is stored in binary format, which I've got no idea how to even manually pull the profile name from. The only thing that information seems to give me, is the abillity to later manipulate the order of the networks, that is maybe. I don't need that part yet, but will later on. I guess, since viewing the profiles is so slow, direct registry edits "might" be preffered. This is WZC I'm concerned about, not any third party utillities. I'm using Windows XP, and it's SP2 or later.

A:View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Researching further, it looks like nobody knows how to pull the information from the registry. I've got Windows XP, so netsh wlan won't work. It looks like this is leaving me now with 2 solutions to get some of this information.

Solution 1: Use some kind of programming API to get the information and display it from the command line. I've therefore heard that there seems to be an interface called the WZC native API. If that's true, how would you use it in AutoIt or in a BATCH file or in a VBScript? I've never used anything like it before, so I need detailed explanations of what the code does, except for that doesn't mean I need to know all the internals of every function. But I need to know how to use it. I know BATCH files well, but I don't really know the full VBScript or AutoIt languages, though I can make some of it's code out anyway.

Solution 2: Somehow maybe use AutoIt in another way to read the properties from the dialog box. I know from research that this is probably possible, but I don't know how to do it. And what I need to do, is hide all that visible clicking going on, even if I'm doing some clicking. That is - hide it from the end user. It's nice to see it moving on the screen, but I'd rather not see it if I were the end user, in this case.

Now keep in mind, that at this point, all I'm trying to implement in these programs, is a way to do exactly what you can already do in Windows XP by default (but it has to be compatible with Windows XP Home, Pro, and MCE), except for from the command line. This is just one small part of a larger picture. I'll then be able to use that command in my other parts of my code that I need it in. So my general rule that I need to follow, is if you can't do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you can't do it in this program. If you CAN do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you CAN do it in this program. But everything is from the command line, in the end result. If Windows XP already provides a command line, which in this case it doesn't, I should use it. If that's not possible, I should use the registry, but I guess that's not possible if nobody knows how. If that's not possible, I guess I'll try to use a VBScript, and if that's not possible, I'll try to use AutoIt. But the end result is a command line program.

I'm running windows 2000 server with SP2 on a Compaq Proliant 1600 with an embedded NIC. I noticed that the ethernet adapter does not show up in the My network places properties. I have tried to get it back with tweekUI, Removing it from Device manager and reinstalling it, and ran an in-place upgrade. I have also disable the embedded NIC and tried adding a new PCI ethernet adapter, it too fails to show up. I can see the card in the command line. I have tried the netsh command to tie an IP address to the adapter and made it persistant, but the changes are lost on mandatory reboot. In order to keep the server up and running I have made it a DHCP client so I can use the machine. All comments are welcome on this one.

Appears you are on Vista ( Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001] )

and running from an Admin Login (ie Owner and other than maintenance, you should be using a Limited Account, eg: UAC but solve that latter)

Disconnect from the router
Goto Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.
Right click on ?Local Area Connection? & click ?properties? option.

scroll and find the Internet Protocol V6
clear the [x] preceeding that line
click ok

get a command prompt (run->cmd) and enternetsh int ip reset
netsh interface ip delete arpcache
ipconfig /flushdns

i had a weird blue screen error yesterday, i get those sometimes, this one doesnt look different than the other ones. now i cant connect to the internet. im on another device right now.
im not sure what to do and i tried a buncha stuff. i have to assume its a registry thing. how do you completely uninstall all traces of network drivers through registry?
i think this is registry so thats why im not giving specs about my system. i need to do this asap. busted my ass on google the past 24 hours and barely move dforward with this. the network drivers show up on the add/rmove programs list but they're stuck there. they dont show up in network connections. one would show up in device manager but it had a 'packet schedluer miniport' next to it and i got rid of it through registry.

My computer has been running horribly recently so i want to reboot it. However i use it for school and it has already been configured to the schools network. Is there somehow restore my computer and then reapply the network config without taking it to spend $150 at tech?

A:I want to completely reboot my computer but keep my network

When you say "Reboot" do you just mean Restart the computer, as that's what Reboot means, or do you mean Reinstall Windows? If you want to Reinstall Windows you are probably going to have your Schools IT dept to do it for you as they have certain files, and network protocols installed on your computer.

As for running horribly here is a few things you can do:
1.Go to Add Remove Programs and remove any programs you do not use.
2. Download CCleaner and delete temp files, run registry cleaner too.
3. Turn Off System Restore
4. Update Virus Definitions for your AV software and run full scan.
5.Download Malwarebytes and run full scan
6. Defrag computer.
7. go to and run the free scan. This will tell you how much RAM you have and your update options.

You can download in safe mode, but run this in normal modeIf you use Spybot S&D's Teatimer function. be sure to disable it for now----------------------------------------------The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs---------------------------------If mbam won't install or runSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. I recently updated the driver for this network adapter, went from version 18.8 to 21.0. When I go to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel Ethernet Connection I217-V, it seems like the properties window for that adapter takes about 5-6 seconds to open and certain tabs like General/Link Speed/Advanced/Power Management/Teaming/VLANs take a few seconds to load after clicking on them.

Is this normal? I can't remember if the window for this adapter was faster loading on previous versions of the driver.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1, on an HP G60-120US laptop. I have an Atheros AR5009 wireless adapter.
I have no problems with internet access. However, in Network and Sharing Center I left click on "change adapter settings", right click on Wireless Network Connection, and then left click on Properties I get an error box that says "An unexpected error occurred." I tried to do a clean boot using MSCONFIG but that did not work. I tried to uncheck the "Load startup items" box but after restarting it was shaded solid again. I then tried to check the "Diagnostic Startup" radio button and then click on "apply" but it jumps right back to selective startup. Can you please help me clean my laptop?

This single computer on my network loses DNS information every time Windows auto-updates, thus losing connectivity. When I go to Network Properties, the DNS fields are blank. Updates are the only time this happens, and this is the only machine it happens on. I simply reset the settings, and everything is fine ... until the next update.

I am assuming there is some setting on this box that does this. Is anyone familiar with this situation, and can you point me in the right direction?

Im living in a dorm right now, and the campus wi-fi is disgustingly slow, so a group of us got a linksys router for the dorm. I set it up so it would not broadcast the SSID, but other computers not connected to the network still see a "other network" icon when choosing a wireless network. is there any way to remove that completely so there is no trace of the wireless network? thanks

A:Make a wireless network completely hidden

Suppressing SSID broadcasts is the most you can do to hide a WiFi network. If that's not good enough, then you need to switch to wired or powerline networking.

Failure to ping is almost always a firewall issue. You must have installed some firewall product, or reconfigured and existing one. You need to solve that issue first.

I have a 20mbps upload with my ISP and I'm getting around 18.5 consistently. I've started using Zoolz for backing up and I have been assured it does not throttle the bandwidth. It reports it is uploading at around 15-16mbps which would be absolutely fine but Task Manager and NetSpeedMonitor show the upload speed as considerably lower.

I've attached a screenshot showing the difference but I was wondering if Task manager and NetSpeedMonitor could be wrong at all? It seemed quite coincidental that the speed reported by Zoolz was roughly what I would expect. Is there any sort of traffic that wouldn't show with Task Manager?

I've sent log files off to support but I don't want to bug them too much if it's actually some sort of Windows glitch. Any insight appreciated.

A:Can Task Manager report completely wrong network speed?

Task manager only reports what the adapter is capable of. What you are seeing is the Cloud app average speed in Task manager for Zoolz. The speed in the Dashboard is probably going off of what your ISP average speed to that connection is.

Without knowing what router manufacturer & model, how you are connecting to the network, who your ISP is. Really just taking shots in the dark here.

A:how to reset network?

How is your setup?

Can you give us a little description on how your home network is setup?

What kind of router you are using... Make and Model

and a screen shot of what you are seeing on your screen when it comes to the PPPoE and PPPoA?

Are you using a Dial Up DSL service that you need PPPoE... If you have a router you can tell the router to keep the information so you never have to dial up on the computer again. The router will keep the connection alive like a cable modem.

OK, so I have a "Network 2" in my Connections panel, after getting a new router for my home network. I'm curious as to how I can reset this network name?

The original Connection was simply called "Network", and I wonder if I can create an identifier for my network connection that shows up on my Settings Charm, for example "HomeNet".

Sorry I don't have any screenshots right now, but if required, I can set one up.

A:W8.1 How to reset Network name?

In control panel click on network then click on change on adapter settings. High light the connection you want to change and select rename.

Hi I have a folder of home videos that I 6.41Gb says says folder 2.67Gb, properties properties *.* back up to a USB key with Syncback The key is nearly full and I'm trying to reduce the size of that folder But here's the thing If I folder properties says 2.67Gb, *.* properties says 6.41Gb right-click on my 'Home videos' folder and select 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb However if I open the folder and search for to show all the files then select all right-click 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb Still at the bottom of the Windows Explorer window it says items selected This is the case on both the folder in My Documents on the PC and also the matching folder on the USB key Treesize also shows Gb for both folders In fact as far as I can figure what with everything else on the same USB key there wouldn't even be room for a Gb folder I've tried showing both hidden and system files and folders but there's nothing extra to see Can anyone please explain this anomaly I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure it out

Is there a way to reset all network settings in win7 like it would have been when clean installing.
I have many issues with my home network that i cant find any solutions to and they seem to be getting worse with time. Before i go into describing everything that is going on and the routers connected i just wanted to ask if there is a way to just reset everything altogether. I was even thinking about formatting and clean installing everything from beginning but that will take me ages and i would really want to avoid that.
Please if anyone know of a simple solution I would be very happy. If there is no such thing i would gladly write all the network and problem details if that would help.

My computer won't connect to the internet right now. My router shows that the internet is connected, but my computer says there is a network connection problem.

I want windows to start over and create a new network. This is my problem.

If I right click on the network icon in the taskbar and open "Network & Sharing Center" it opens and I click on "Connect to a network" it opens a window in the taskbar giving me an option to open the network & sharing center?! Which just starts the cycle over again.

I wan't to be able to see the network that windows has set up and delete it or create a new one but can't seem to figure it out. Win7 is too user friendly now that I can't find any of the advanced controls? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Read this article from MS:
You receive an error message in Internet Explorer: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

You may have a third party application that is preventing your connection (firewall, antivirus, Windows Defender, etc)

I have an emachine, did a factory reset now I can't get internet. I think it got rid of drivers and plug ins. I have verizon what could I do? Thanks

A:Factory reset-now no network

A factory reset should not have "got rid of drivers and plug ins".
Is it a laptop? PC?
If it's a laptop, have you tried turning on the Wifi from the F keys?
Are you using Wifi or Ethernet cable?
