I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell has been acting up pretty recently (6 months old and still under warranty), and the battery does not charge past 80%. Once it get's near the 80% charge, it immediately fills up to 100%.

I've remembered using the laptop for more than 6 hours under moderate use but now it barely lasts 2 hours.

Please give me some advice because I'm really dependent on this laptop.

I got a new laptop recently (this past Sunday) and ever since I turned it on I've had horrible issues with WiFi. It's tothe point where I'm ready to return it to the store and just go without a computer. Keep in mind I'm not very tech savvy, so I might not know what you're talking about.

It's very slow and won't stay connected to the internet. 4/5 times it doesn't load the web page I'm trying to load and after about 5 minutes after powering on it disconnects from my Wi-Fi and refuses to reconnect. The troubleshooter says it's a router issue but resetting the router doesn't do anything at all and no other device in the house is having any issues. I haven't downloaded ANYTHING to it yet. In addition, when it /does/ connect to my Wi-Fi, trying to open any web page brings me to a "you are not connected to the internet" notice.

I have no idea what to do. I need a computer for work but I'm so sick of having problems with them.

A:Brand new laptop; faulty wifi process?

Set up the laptop next to the router where the signal should be strongest. Are you sure that you are connecting to your own wi fi network and router? When you switch on the laptop it will search for in range networks and when you spot your own you are asked to give the password before you can use the internet for the first time. If that's not happening maybe its logging you on to a neighbouring unsecured network (no password set) where the signal is weak. If I click on the wireless icon bottom right in my taskbar it brings up a choice of available networks. My icon looks like a set of steps and so the icon shows how strong the signal is. Check that you are connecting to your own router and see how strong the signal is. You mention other devices that work OK but haven't given any details.

I've been having an issue which started this morning. The previous night, I forgot to plug in my Dell Inspiron N5050 after using it. I woke up to find that my battery had died (obviously). I plugged in the laptop, running Windows 7 HE 64 bit, and turned it on. It booted normally and I was able to do all of my tasks as needed. Then I noticed my problem. The battery icon down on the taskbar showed that the device was plugged in, but was not charging. It has stayed at a constant 2% charge for more than 24 hours now. The Battery Meter stated that my battery is performing normally, so I ruled the battery out as the cause. The adapter I am using is the default one that came with the laptop when I bought it, and it appears to be functioning normally as well. What could be the cause of this incident, and what can I do to fix it?

A:Battery Stated as "Plugged in, Not Charging"

Most likely you have a bad battery. Dell has had whole series of batteries that they shipped out in a not fully functional state. I have an HP laptop (about 8 years old now) that the battery took a "steamy one" and it will no longer charge properly. You can try this trick (it may not work, but worth a try because did work for me a couple times): power down laptop and take the battery out for 30 minutes; replace battery and plug in charger but do not power on; wait 4 hours of charge and power on. I had it work a couple times that it gave a full 100% charge. Again, if it doesn't work then sorry, but at least you tried.

A recent power outage has caused some of my hardware to function oddly...
My tv's hdmi ports seem to still work for say a ps3, but when hooking up to my gtx 760 I get "No Signal"?
I only have one hdmi port but several other dvi ports. My smaller monitor(plugged into dvi port 1) is functioning normally. It also seems the gpu is still functioning because I booted Dota 2 just fine with 60fps(vsync). Could this outage have fried the hdmi port? Should I be worried, should I return it or just buckle down with 2 dvi connectors? I was gonna test out hdmi to dvi cables to test my theory but am unsure what to do otherwise.

Hi you all!

I have an Asus Laptop, last generation i7, 8gb... almost nice. Code: N550LF

Problem: I have to work all day with my laptop, with graphic software and so on.
Almost 10/12 hours or more per day. In my old Dell (I had it for 5 years) I changed for this reason the battery every year.
It is extremely important for my work, even if not everyone cares about battery.

Requested solution: what can I do to preserve (as much as possible) the battery?

What others said: A friend of mine told me to always plug in the computer, because the computer doesn't charge the battery when it is full. In this way I can preserve the battery.
The Asus website doesn't give any advice about it.
The official support by mail told me to not plug the battery when it is 100% charged. This could be dangerous. So, no way to preserve it.

And in your opinion?

Thank you in advance

A:Battery advice

Batteries these days like to stay between 20% and 90% charge.
Leaving the laptop/device plugged in when it reaches 100% does no damage, as most devices have an automatic charge cut-off. So you won't over-charge your batteries.
The problem is, that you're keeping the battery between 98-100% charge all the time, when this is not a sweet spot for the battery at all. It will degrade very slightly faster.
Therefore, in order to keep maximum battery life, keep battery between 20-90% charge.

Hi,

I have been trying to find a replacement battery for my HP G70 laptop. On the old battery it says to replace with battery 485041-003 but there doesn't seem to be any HP batteries and the names on the batteries and, indeed, the companies who are selling them, are companies that I have never heard of. I have looked at the reviews for most of them and there are mixed renews but a lot saying the batteries do not last as long as the old one. Given that anyone can set up a ficticious company and call it co.uk, which company in the UK do you recommend?

I got a sony erricsson Xperia X10 for over a year and now the battery life become awful. If I plugged it in through night then unpluged it at 7 am, but it was about to 0% by 11 am and I was getting a warn to recharge it. This has been really awful. I don't use it as my basic phone already so there are only several apps on the phone. The email wasn't set to push and I only refresh the emails when I want to check them, so its saving some battery, I have done the same with facebook, and the weather. I have an Acer laptop I bought last January Wear? Minimize Battery It s a Minimize Battery Wear? month laptop and someone told me that I should be removing the battery when I am using AC power I was hesitant at first so I installed a software called BatteryBar Pro Upon installing I was surprised that my battery wear was already at Minimize Battery Wear? A:Minimize Battery Wear?

If your laptop allows you to, some laptops have an option to confine the battery to between 20% and 85% or something. That'll reduce wear if you can enable that. It'll also help if you manually do that as well.

Li-Ion/LiPo "wear" is well documented and the causes are well known for consumer chemistries.
Storing at high temperatures will increase degradation.
Storing at 4.2v/cell (fully charged) will increase degradation.
Keeping it below ~3.0v/cell (discharged) will degrade it.

So, in general, spend as little time as possible depleted or fully charged. If you fully charge it before leaving for the day, then start using it within a few hours, the wear is very minimal so you shouldn't worry about fully charging it if you're planning on using it soon, just don't store it for long periods fully charged.
Likewise if you leave it fully depleted for a long while, that will also accelerate wear.

If you need to store it, 40% charge (3.85v/cell) is commonly recommended but there is very little difference between storing it between 20% and 80% charge. Again the only times that storage can heavily degrade the battery is if it's fully charged (4.2v) or fully discharged (<3.3v resting)

Hey everyone I have an old laptop with a battery that lasts about h in quot Power Saving quot mode I m going to be stuck next week for about hours at a location with few available public outlets and need to stretch my battery life as much as possible I ve already for battery to Looking life extend ways "techie" done the obvious generic tips of quot defragging the hard drive quot quot dimming the screen quot quot using few no external devices quot quot tweaking my power usage settings quot etc but it s not enough I m looking for some good quot techie quot solutions now like quot underclocking the CPU quot or quot removing the CD drive quot All suggestions are appreciated I d love to try to squeeze another hours out of this battery if possible no I don t have another battery and don t need to buy one just for this one event Thx PS Another idea Removing HDD and booting from USB Flash drive nbsp

A:Looking for "techie" ways to extend battery life

Removing the HDD and booting from a flash drive is probably the worst decision you can make. Flash drives have very slow speeds (even though they are flash memory, they arent fast) and very little capacity. Keep the HDD.

There are only a few more ways to improve battery life other than dimming your screen and adjusting the power usage settings. Under-clocking the CPU is really done by the "power saving" mode.

Try these suggestions:
1) Run this tool: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_battery_power_settings
2) Turn of your network adapter. There is usually a switch on the side of the PC that toggles the network adapter on and off. That will save you a ton of power. Also make sure bluetooth is off. I dont think your older PC will have it, but just make sure.
3) Use this tool to remove any unnecessary processes from start up. This will speed up your computer while also reducing the amount of processes that run (thus reducing CPU and RAM usage).

I can suggest other options, I just need your OS. If it is Windows 7, it is easy too, if it is XP, I cant really help there since I forgot the OS.

Hi I am new here. My pc recently restarts playing some games which is strange to me. I did some internet research and found that it could be me psu or gpu.

Intel motherboard dh55pj
Sapphire hd 6870 igb
Transcend ram (4+2) gb
Samsung 500 gb hdd
Thermaltake smartpower 550 watt psu 80+ bronze

Also I borrowed a friends` 6850 gpu+ 450 watt psu to see if there is anu problem in my mobo or processor but it was just fine. But I gave my friend my gpu psu combo and he faced problems like mine after using them for 1 week.
So now I am certain that either my gpu or my psu has gone bad. but I cant know for sure which one.Any helps.....

A:Faulty GPU or PSU?

Does your friend have a 500W PSU so they can test your GPU with their PSU? If they can test just the GPU, it might answer your question.

Actually 500W has head room, a 450W PSU might be enough to test for a week or so.

Hi;
I have a 11yr old Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook computer. It started shutting down mysteriously while working, and sometimes shuts down a second or two after powering on.
I was planning to scrap the thing, maybe try to sell it for parts on Ebay, but decided to take one more look.
Today I found that the CMOS battery (reserve battery) is bad. It is leaking but has not damaged anything.
Could the fact that this battery is bad (maybe shorted) cause the computer to shut down as I described?
Since I have the whole thing dis-assembled I can replace the battery easily. I found them on Ebay but not sure I should buy one there, since it could be an old battery that is no good.
Any ideas?

Thanks

The CPU cooling fan may be worn out and the thermal pads and paste may be seriously burned and dried out. I doubt if the laptop parts would be worth much because of the age...

A:Battery power boot up problem

How old is the HP? If its been a few years since you bought it, you might try re calibrating the battery from the BIOS, most HP and Gateway computers have a utility inside the BIOS for calibrating the battery. If not, let me know and I'll see if I can find one.

Hi friends

Mine PC is running on a AMD quardracore, Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H, 4 GB DDR III 1600 Mhz Corsair Ram & Power supply along with 8400 GT nvidia . This PC has been OC to 3.2 ghz and is currently working at 3.2 ghz.

Recently I was getting BIOS notification to change the battery as everytime the BIOS had to be reset.

I changed the battery 3 days back but again after a day I again started getting the same notification of changing the battery.

Pls tell where could be the problem.

Regards

A:CMOS battery problem

Was the battery you replaced the bad one with brand new? Also make sure it is a 3V battery and to be safe, make sure it has the markings 'CR2032" on it (that is what mine has). Other batteries of the same size and voltage MAY be fine, but I can't really vouch for them. Also, if you have one, it might pay to check the batteries voltage with a multimeter.

Also, if you buy a new one, it might pay to make sure that it is meant for a computers motherboard, as some may or may not be, just to be on the safe side. I don't really know a great deal about these batteries.

I recently purchased an Asus N56V Series laptop. The laptop has impressive specs, including an i7 Core and a Nvidia GT 635M graphics adaptor, so I can understand it having a below average battery life. However, I am only getting 1 to 2 hours of battery life on it, even when I am not running processor and graphic intensive programs. Product review indicate that will battery life for this laptop is below average, the battery should still last 4 hours under normal conditions.

Is there any reason why my battery life is so limited? Has anyone else had similar problems with this model of laptop?

Thanks for the help.

I recently got this computer from a friend so I have no idea how long this has been going on. Probably why he got rid of it. I will plug in the power cord and try to boot with the battery in and nothing will happen. If I reach under the laptop and remove the battery and then try to boot up it comes on like normal. I can then put the battery back in but it makes no difference after that. The battery is completely dead. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with a bad battery or what. The computer is a Dell Latitude D630. If I knew that putting a good new battery in it would fix it I would without hesitation I just need to know if that is the problem or is it another glitch. If anyone knows the answer I would appreciate if they would pass it on. Thanks

Hello, I have a Dell Precision M4500 laptop which stopped recognizing the battery a couple months back. I have had the laptop for one year now with absolutely no problems up until this happened. I am pretty sure the battery is still good, it's not that old, but since the computer wont even recognize it is in, there's no way to check if it can charge. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, maybe there is a fix before I have to shell out the money for a new battery.

So I purchased a new CPU a couple months ago and didn t bother to mess with the Bios after installing it Anyway the CPU I purchased was an AMD Phenom II X BE which as I understand is supposed to have all four cores unlocked from start with no need to do anything yourself Anyway some time had passed and about a month ago I was in my Bios messing around with some settings and noticed that under CPU Settings it showed something like this Core - Unlocked Core - Unlocked Core - Unlocked Core - Locked I started up my computer without making changes to check what my computer said and sure enough in task manager it only showed three cores I m almost positive that I d remembered seeing four cores in the task manage on multiple occasions before but of course couldn t be sure So I m not sure if it was always like this from when I installed the CPU or if something changed it for the first month or two I had it installed Anyway went back into Bios and changed it to Unlocked and now all four cores show as unlocked and my computer seems to be running fine but now I am unable to see the temperature readouts for each of my cores--which I understand is a side effect from unlocking cores though I shouldn t be having that problem considering the BE is supposed to come with all four cores unlocked AFAIK I m not too concerned about the temperature thing really but I m just wondering if this would have any effect on my computer or if it could mean that the CPU is faulty or something along those lines I appreciate mean CPU 965 locked core, had BE AMD a faulty? this Phenom X4 is could my II any help thanks nbsp

A:AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE had a locked core, could this mean my CPU is faulty?

I think the the X4 BE is supposed to have 6 cores, with 2 of them locked out. It almost sounds like you have an X3, with 1 of 4 cores locked out. My 970 BE showed 6 cores, with 2 locked out, when I first got it. But I think I may have over-cooked it, or something, when I enabled all 6 cores, and overclocked it, because now it only shows 4 cores. None are locked, though. It runs fine at 4GHz, with 1.5V to it, and 17V to the cooling fan.

A:Two faulty GTX 560 Ti GPUs

The warranty/RMA will be tied to the serial numbers. White sticker with bar code- which should be between the front GPU heatsink screw and the solder points for the cards VRM. I Think most Gigabyte boards only have two stickers attached- the white serial and a green QC.

Hopefully one of you guys can explain something for me. I have fitted a new battery to my Toshiba laptop and since fitting it the keyboard and mousepad refuse to work. If I plug in a USB mouse that works OK but still no keyboard. If I boot into safe mode everything runs OK.
I took out the battery and ran just on mains and everything runs fine and cpu is back to normal, putting the old battery in also enables the laptop to run OK.
Thinking the high cpu usage might be malware I ran Malwarebytes and Combofix but they found nothing.
Has anyone any suggestions as to why the new battery is giving these issues, never had any problems with other batteries I have fitted to laptops.

A:New laptop battery

There are LOTS of problems with new laptop batteries... one study reports anywhere from 6% to 11% of China batteries are unreliable or defective. you have no idea how long it has been sitting on the shelf or in a warehouse box in some shipping point.
First, clean you contact points with an eraser, and look for loose connection points, then consider returning to the seller for for an exchange.

I hv a Dell Latitude D600 with faulty thermal sensor that show constant 85celcius even just boot and the air that blown out were not even warm. The fan were always at fullspeed. It throttle down to the lowest speed(500mhz).

I did remove the heatsink n clean all dust

I did replace the thermal paste

i replace another processor to confirm that is not a faulty processor's thermal sensor

I tried to change power setting to 'Always On' and is still the same

I tried to overclock it using NHC but its still slow

Anyway that i can disable the temp throttle down?
I dont care if that overheat my laptop as if i have to use a laptop with 500mhz i rather try to cure it.
Btw this is an unused anymore,i just wanna try to fix/modify to make it fullspeed again.

I currently have a Lenovo laptop and have had it for 2 and a half years. The battery has always been pretty bad and last about 3 minutes unplugged. The hard drive is a temperamental one from an old laptop as the original broke for no apparent reason, probably didn't help I was constantly having to rebuild it too. I know it is stupid but when I got this laptop I was young and naive and didn't realise how essential recovery disks are.
I realise to replace all of these would be quite expensive so am wondering whether it is worth just buying a new laptop?

A:Worth replacing the hard drive, battery and buying recovery disks?

We need more information to comment.
There are at least 7 levels of Lenovo laptop... Is this a T-series... or just what is it? model and type.
In general, Lenovo laptops are among the most reliable...
This is not a good time to buy hard drives, due to the market over-adjusting to the hard drive factories under water in Thailand.
Batteries, good ones, can be found for $35 to $45
But you can get a 90 GB SATA hard drive for $90 or less.
Tell us the hard drive brand and size, the amount of memory installed.
All in all, we can rebuild a decent Lenovo for $140... and that is a lot less expensive than a new laptop. But a shop would have to charge you $205 or more.
A cheap laptop might cost you $500 to $600, but a good laptop could cost you $1200 to $1800. For long term reliability, I would want to invest at least $1000 to $1500

Tell us more so we can best advise you.

A:How to prolong your battery's life

Where did you get this information? Some of it I'd agree with, others I don't. It also reads like a post you copy pasted into lots of places around the internet - however a quick googling didn't return anything.

1.Store battery :
Put your batteries in a cool and dry place when you store it.
Yes, that is generally good practice for lots of things.

Do not charge your lithum batteries too full before storage.
Ok, no prob here either, although saying that doing so can decrease overall capacity of the battery would have made it a better statement.

After using the laptop battery ,please clean up the metal terminals with a soft dry clean cloth.
So, I should take the battery out of my laptop every time I've used the laptop while not plugged in. This is not practical on some laptops and ultrabooks, nor does it seem necessary since I have never seen a corroded laptop battery.

Before storage, you should confirm your is not fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes . Usually a lithium-ion battery should be stored at about 40% state-of-charge.
I've seen 50% thrown around, but I'll accept 40%.

The suitable storage temperature for batteries is around 15C
Ok. Haven't heard this, but I suppose it makes sense.

Please notice this: weak batteries charge faster and remain on 'ready' indicator longer than strong ones. Also it only be used for a short time.So do not buy a used battery even if it is very cheap because used battery usually means weak battery.
This is confusing. Should define "weak". What does "remain on 'ready' indicator longer than strong ones" mean? Why would this happen? There are programs like BatteryCare for Windows and Coconut Battery for OS X that you could use to get information on a used battery before purchasing. Its possible with those tools to make an informed decision on whether or not the battery is worth the price. Simply dismissing the possibility of purchasing a used battery is lazy.

2.Charge battery :
Most battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours so do not leave a battery in a charger for a long time.
Are we still talking about laptop lithium batteries? They are intelligently charged based on circuitry in the battery pack to charge without overcharging, leaving in longer will not damage. A majority of battery chargers for NiCD, NiMH, and NiZn sold in the last 5+ years are also smart chargers and would stop charging once they sense a (typically) 0.01V decrease. Basically overcharging isn't a problem today.

When you prepare to charge your battery ,make sure the temperature is around the room temperature.
Makes sense.

Especially need to pay attention is avoid over-charging and over-discharging.
See above.

Do not charged to higher voltages than its threshold voltage ,as it would become unsafe.
As I said above, things are charged on smart chargers now, this isn't going to happen. It seems that starting with your #2 section you are mixing up laptop batteries and regular rechargable batteries like you use in a flashlight.

Prepare a new battery for replacement if your battery get weak over time.
Ok. Or you could just continue to use it, laptop batteries are expensive. If someone needed to get 5+ hours and now they can't, then of course they'll buy a replacement, don't think they need to be told to do so.

Please notice this: It is not very distinct to reduce the charge time by increasing the charge current .
What? Again, possibly talking about other types of batteries than lithium laptop batteries, but even at that I think you used a wrong word or two.

3.Maintain battery :
Rechargeable batteries do not break suddenly but slowly get powerless over time.
All? NiZn batteries have been known to "break" suddenly and not be able to be recharged. Lead Acid batteries in cars often start a car just fine, then the next attempt at... Read more

I have a new 12 cell battery for my acer 5535. Computer beeps a warning and shuts back down on start-up. Incorrect battery message. battery is a 12 cell, 10400mAh, AS09A41. The battery is made for an Acer 5517-5535. Does something need to be re-configured in the computer to accept the battery? The battery will run the computer if the computer is plugged in to the AC first and then the battery is installed, then unplugged from the wall. Both batteries are 11.1v

A user brought me her laptop (an Acer Aspire 4520) for start up speed issues. While dealing with that I noticed that after shut down, I couldn't power the machine back up by pressing the power button. I have to unplug the power chord and then I can power the machine up. Also, if the machine is in sleep mode the power button doesn't wake it whether it's plugged in or not. You have to unplug it AND pull the battery to bring it back to a state where it will power up.

I've tried every configuration provided to me be Vista to configure the power button behavior in the CP but no luck...

This is a Dell Latitude laptop with Windows XP
I let the battery die on it and when i plugged it in the next morning to turn it on I get that error message. I tried taking out the hard drive and putting it back in. The BIOS is not seeing any hard drive. It reads "<none>"
I am not sure if the battery discharging has anything to do with it or not.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

A:Internal hard disk drive not found after battery discharge

Faulty HDD Controller but I would have that laptop check out if you can. Most likely it's the MOBO that is to blame. MOBO = Motherboard. See if that was XP not seeing the HDD then you could re-install XP. But you said your BIOS is not seeing the HDD. It could also be your HDD as failed. Normally DELL has a tool that you run to test your system out. This tool is use by DELL Certified Techs to see where your issue is. HDD, MOBO, Battery. Most of the time the MOBO is replaced. Then HDD then the Battery to solve your issue.

A:Lenovo G560 battery charges but laptop won't run on it

The battery contacts could be corroded by the spilled water. It takes time for this corrosion to develop so that's why the time that the laptop worked. The water could have affected other internal circuits too over time. The laptop needs to be opened up and inspected

A:Faulty DVD drive on high-grade laptop

I can't find W76S on Hi-Grade's site, so I don't know what extras the laptop has. And their FTP server for driver download appears to be offline. Do you still have the CD/DVD w/ device drivers that came with the laptop? Perhaps try reinstalling the drivers for the webcam, card-reader, etc. from that disc.

The other option is take a look at Device Manager. Look at the properties for those w/ exclamation marks. There should be a Details tab. Select Hardware Ids under Property, and you should get couple things in the Value box. Hopefully, the 1st one will help you identify the make and from there, the right driver. If not, try using the 2nd value.

A:Laptop battery issuie

The first quick fix that I would recommend, as to see if we can get your battery to charge is this. Take your battery in your hand, carefully inspect the gold tipped connector points, where the battery makes it's electrical connection to the lap top. Inspect those ends, see if they have any dirt, dust, film or build up on them, if they don't shine as bright as a new penny, you then might want to clean of the end connectors. Take some rubbing alcohol, a couple q-tips, and carefully clean the tips off, allow 10-15 minutes to dry and then hook the battery back up to the lap top and see if it starts charging.

There's a couple more quick fixes up my sleeve, but I just want to see if this first one will do the trick.

Please let us know if this works or not!

Good luck.................

click start / windows
type power options and select it
select change plan settings on your current power plan
click change advanced power settings
go to battery
check the low and critical battery level and actions.

if those aren't set in 20% it probably means your battery is out of calibration.

i have a tp-link 5-port switch which has worked without a hitch for about 2 years. now there are issues - sometimes i cannot get a network connection. if i power the switch down then up again, a good connection is restored.

the set up is like this:
dsl router direct to 2 computers and the switch, then two other computers and a printer through the switch.
i have recently done a major hardware upgrade to the two machines connected to the switch, but they are both running xp as before.

can these switches develop faults?
is it on OS problem?
it happens even with only one of the computers on the switch running

A:Network switch faulty?

yes, a switch can fail just like any other active component. I lost one port on mine but had a vacant slot so I just moved the cable to the vacant position.

fyi: the DSL Router ---> Switch is just fine, but be aware that the DHCP service of the Router is providing all the TCP/IP configuration data, even to the systems attached to the switch.

Your test for correct configuration is to run IPCONFIG /ALL on a working system and
then compare that to the results on a failing system.
Usually, it is obvious on the failing systems that the configuration is not correct.
It is possible however, that the failing system is configured correctly but still fails.

I need a new battery or charger for toshiba laptop A105-S2101. The battery is a PA3451U-1BRS and its a DC 14.4v 2000mah.

Well first off the battery wont hold or take a charge. Everytime I unplug it from the wall the laptop goes off too. The lights do come on the laptop showing that its charging.

2nd thing is does voltage matter on battery replacement? I cant find 14.4 replacement thats cheap. All ones I find 10.? volt with 4000-4400mah on ebay.

A:Laptop battery replacement

You need to use the same battery, and the same charger voltages. High capacity batteries usually have a higher mah figure, but I would replace them like for like.

Batteries are never cheap, and they do wear out - some faster than others, but eventually they all die and stop holding charge.

Hi;
I have had my iPod 20Gig 4th gen for about 5 years, and as expected the battery no longer holds a good charge. I usually have about 2 hours of listening (mostly to audio books), but when it was new, it was more like 5 or 6 hours.

I have continued to use this iPod mostly at home, charging it frequently, and sometimes leaving it connected to the charger while using it.
I have a slight concern about the Lithium battery in the unit, and whether an old battery could be more susceptible to explode while being charged.
I have been leaving the unit on charge overnight, but have never detected any heat in the unit or the charger while it is connected.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

FW

A:Old iPod, weak battery

It is completely natural for the battery life to deteriorate over time. You most likely will be able to get the battery replaced at an apple store- here is a list of prices if you are interested:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/#us

I would not worry about the battery exploding either. Although it happens on occasion, the number of cases I have heard of is in the single digits.

Hi peeps,

My question is: are there any (affordable) ways of repairing faulty graphics cards and if so, is it worth me trying to sell my 2 faulty AGP graphics cards (one is XFX 6600GT 256MB, the other Powercolor ATI X1650 Pro 512MB) on Ebay or Techspot trade/sell area or is it just best for me to recycle them at the local recycle yard? If people are able to repair them, then maybe a re-sell as faulty could rekindle some of my losses?

Many thanks for any responses.

Hi, I have a Gateway AJ2 that is acting up. If I have the battery installed, the computer runs on the battery, regardless if the AC adapter is plugged in or not. If the battery isn't installed, the computer runs on AC with no problems.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I don't have any extra PSU or MoBo to test which hard drive is giving me this kind of problem,

So please guys, any kind of help is greatly appreciated

Thank you

Go elsewhere on this TechSpot site, to find the excellent and nearly complete Beep Code list from member Tipstir. It can be very helpful.

You could have any one of a number of issues, but you didn't tell us the brand, model, age, and configuration...
It could be hard drive failure, video graphics card, cpu clamp has broken or come loose, memory module failure, power supply damaged or blown on one channel, one of the PCI card slots can cause this, even it not used... such as a eefective modem, cable or socket has failed due to heat shrinkage or poor construction.
You will likely get a lot of suggestions and guesses if you tell us more about your system.
Also tell us if you have the restore disks for windows, and the drivers to do a new install if necessary... as well as whether you have your important files backed up.
Good luck in dealing with all the ideas you are sent by TechSpot members

I have a Dell XPS M that turned one year last week During that week I made screenshots of the CPUID-information delivered to me I use this wonderful piece of software to monitor Battery development capacity a a over and year week, the temperature of the notoriously hot computer and after mye last harddrive-crash I found the new version contains information about the battery too I wonder How can Battery capacity development over a week, and a year the current full charge capacity swing so much on a day to day basis And is it normal that the battery has lost of its capacity during the first year Even though lithium batteries are not supposed to have a memory-effect I still cling to the quot empty first load thereafter quot -strategy and have had good success with that on cell phones But the Dell disappoints me as it does in any other respect anyway - new harddiscs new motherboard and a new battery already in week one are the results of the first year s use and maintenance need Never needed maintenance on any PC or notebook ever before PC-use since Best regards ungua nbsp

A:Battery capacity development over a week, and a year

16% loss after one year is reasonable. ok, so not all battery manufacturers have "accurate" battery wear level but i will post mine: i got 2 laptops with accurate battery so far (acer TM4000 and 5930G)

the latter, was bought in early dec 2008. so today, after about 1.5 years it has 31% wear level. now = 48988mwh. was = 71040mwh.

in my case, the level get worse if i use the laptop everyday on battery. once I kept the battery and use the laptop as a desktop replacement the level barely increase. one tip to keep it is that to "calibrate" your laptop battery as often as possible. In some cases I successfully decrease the wear level by doing that. It's clear that short discharge of battery actually worsen the age of the battery itself.

I saw few sony vaio & toshiba laptops, with battery wear level at 0% but battery dies within 5-10 minutes of usage.

Can a low bios battery cause slow computer operation? I am getting a low battery warning when booting up which probably is the reason the computer is slower than dirt. Thanks

A:Dell desktop BIOS battery question

i'd be more inclined to blame something else on poor performance, because all the BIOS battery does is keep CMOS settings. it's a small, low-voltage, button cell battery that powers the chip socket. if you are experiencing slow performance, try defragging your hard drive and scanning for viruses. if the computer is taking it's time starting up, check your startup list and disable everything that's not necessary.

When I was in RS I use take the multi-meter and test the AC/DC adapter to if it was reading the correctly. The jack should be soldered in the motherboard. I know my ASUS Eee PC has tiny slot of the power. Got to handle it gentle. You could fix the issue but replacing the motherboard. I

Look at these pictures of your unit inside of it. Everything is on the MOBO soldered.

Toshiba Sattelite A200 10x, bought it 2 and a half years ago, everything's stock at stock settings, only added 1 gig of ram to take it to 2gig total upon purchase.

I can't say I'm the exemplary laptop user since whenever I can I just leave it on the AC supply and let it run there for hours on end, that can't be good for the battery. Lately the moment I unplug it, even though the battery's fully charged it loses its charge completely in 1 or 2 minutes flat. Sometimes the same time I unplug it, 2 seconds or so later it turns off.

I'm guessing it's time for a new laptop battery, or could be coming from a leak or such? I'm just posting to confirm.

A:Time to change the battery?

You should be able to take it to a Battery Specialist http://batteryworld.com.au/asp/index.asp?pgid=11193 and they might be able to diminish somewhat the 'recharging Cycle memory'. But it will take them a while to do and it will never be totally reliable eg. temperature differences will affect the battery run-down time. As a backup for around the house could be money well spent and if you buy a new battery having the second should (if you don't use and abuse it like the last) lengthen the the life of the new one.
Hope this helps

Why don't you go here (Antec PSU calculator) , http://www.antec.outervision.com/ ,plug in your system specs, and you'll likely be able to answer your own question.

hi charge does battery laptop Cheap not fully guys Cheap laptop battery does not fully charge I recently purchased a mah v battery from Ebay for my toshiba m -s laptop to replace the v original battery Instead I got a mah V battery unsurprisingly the front LED charging light Cheap laptop battery does not fully charge never goes green and the charging meter win xp goes up to but stays on quot charging quot without changing to quot on ac power quot like with my older battery Either the battery is f ked or more likely - the laptop is not designed to give sufficient voltage for this battery Here s my question though I can deal with the battery icon not changing as long as I know for sure that it doesn t draw more current than a battery that reports quot I m full quot I m about to start traveling with the laptop and I need a long lasting battery that will spare my vehicle s battery as much as possible I think that when this battery goes to the closest it s going to get to be fully charged the computer power circuit is not able to charge the battery anymore and thus there is no loss and the laptop will actually draw just the power that it needs to keep running also I get about - hours of run time from a supposedly mah battery sound a bit too short no I just can t recall what I used to get from the original mah or so battery I m no good when it comes to electricity so your help is appreciated thanks Shawn nbsp

A:Cheap laptop battery does not fully charge

The "Cheap" laptop battery may not be compatible with the Toshiba laptop, but if you can get over 2.5 hours of runtime on it, be happy. I don't think the battery will damage the laptop

Hello. I'm getting an error message about the date and time not being stored on a Dell Latitude D800 laptop. As a first attempt to alleviate this problem I am going to replace the CMOS battery. I opened the covers on the bottom of the laptop but don't see the battery. I tried to take the shell off but haven't been successful yet.

Before I go further do you know if the CMOS battery is soldered to the motherboard? (If so, this may be a nonstarter for me.)

Thanks for your help!

A:Is Dell Latitude D800 CMOS battery soldered to motherboard?

the bottom of a laptop case doesn't give you access to the CMOS battery.

You have to pop the frame off from the top. Be gentle. It is tricky and you can break it if you don't know what you're doing.

Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 1525 that is one year old. Recently the battery will be completely dead when I try to turn on the laptop and will not power on unless I plug it in. The battery meter will be at 0% when it starts up, but recharges normally when plugged in. When I unplug the laptop and close the lid (which puts it into sleep mode) the battery will be completely dead by the next morning even if it was at 100% before I closed it. I don't know why the battery is discharging completely so quickly when the computer isn't even running.

Could this just be a problem with my battery? Or is the laptop not actually sleeping when I close it, but continually using up battery power? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

A:Laptop battery discharging when in sleep mode

Note there's a difference between "Sleep" vs. "Hibernation"
> Sleep mode still requires power (It should be minimal power but definitely still draws some power)
> Hibernation requires zero power

That said, i still wouldn't expect a good battery to discharge overnight on sleep mode so you probably still have an issue with your battery holding a charge

I have a small 750VA UPS which i use to safely shut down computer. The backup is about 5-8 minutes. We are having power shortage and thinking of battery backup but not much cash for inverters. My question is that do my UPS support those large battery(cars and bigger one like 120amp etc, don't have knowledge sorry). How much amp of battery do my UPS support?I calculated my computers' power consumption and it's around 230watt(with 9800GT,not sure)+36Watt monitor. So can i only get battery or my UPS too weak and need inverter?

A:Battery support for 750VA UPS

As long as it is 12V DC you can use any battery you want. There are a few things online about using a car battery for the battery backup. You may want to use a 'deep cycle' marine battery (although I don't know the availability of marine batteries in Nepal). There are probably other 'deep cycle' batteries other than marine.. Anyway, unless it is in a pretty well ventilated place you'll want to avoid unsealed batteries, which include most car batteries, because of hydrogen gas buildup (and perhaps H2S).

Depending on the battery you may (probably will) lose the ability to correctly monitor how much life you have left in the battery when running the electronics.

I got a new battery for my daughters Dell Inspiron 1501. It is a 9 cell 7800 MAH. I got it on ebay. The charger I also got on ebay last year. It is a model st-c-075-19500334ct, input:AC100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz Output:19.5V-3.34A. I am wondering because the charger seems to be getting very hot, but the recommended charger on ebay has the same specs. Your help is greatly appreciated!

A:Is charger ok for new battery?

it's normal for batteries to get hot when charging. I suppose the charger could get got as well. As long as it isn't dangerously hot, I wouldn't worry- keep an eye on it.

I have been looking at this computer that a lady gave me to try and fix. I have deduced that the computer is all fine except for the power button. Everything is plugged in properly, the power supply works just fine. When I push the power button though to power on the system, the system doesn't respond/turn on. Does anybody know where I could buy just the button replacement? I have tried tiger direct, and googled for the last 45 minutes, and cannot find just a button replacement. I really don't want to buy a whole barebones kit for only one button. It is an emachines tower pc.

Thank you to anybody who can help.

A:Faulty Power Button

So you have shorted the PWR pins on the Motherboard and it turns on? Is that how you have confirmed its the Power button only?
You might want to blow out all dust in the power button area, well everywhere inside the computer using high compressed air

The "Power Button" comes with the case, so worst case scenario, replace the entire case
