Q: HP support assistant is stuck on downloading and updates def...

I need help fixing this issue:The problem is its connected to the HP servers but for some reason it stops at "downloading messages and updates definition". Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, then rebooting my laptop but it still doesnt work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I keep trying to check for updates but it just stays at downloading messages and updates definitions. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I still have the same problems.

I had the same problem this morning when it stuck on the second stage for over two hours then ended itself:  I've just opened the Support Assistant  > Updates which said 'No Update is available' so I clicked on 'Check for Updates'and am just watching the same screen as the top one I posted. After seven minutes it's still on the same stage. HP - you appear to have a problem. I'll see if Tech Support will be interested.      The only way that I could get rid of the HP Support Assistant that had a magnifying glass over it was to restart my PC. I don't know if it's connected but when I logged on just now this window appeared:    I OK'd it and was through to thr home page!

Please see the attached screen capture. The Support Assistant on my new HP ENVY notebook will not download, gather configuration information, analyze the system, or prepare an action list. I removed Support Assistant using the Windows Fixit Tool, re-started the computer, and reinstalled Support Assistant, v. 8.3.27.17. using sp76302 which I downloaded from the HP Support website. The same issue still persists. I also ran Windows troubleshooting for my Windows updates, but that seems to be downloading correctly. I have high speed internet connectivity, d/l 60 mbps, u/l 10 mbps speeds. I am using Windows 10 Pro Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.82). This is a new HP laptop that I've had for about 12 days. Please advise how to resolve this issue. Thank you. Cheers,Joel

The Support Assistant has never moved past the Downloading messages" portion. It just stops. I have reloaded the latest version of HPSA with the same result.

 Hello, I was updating some drivers via HP Support Assistant, and BIOS update got stuck as shown on picture below. I was hoping that someone will be able to direct me what to do next. I'm afraid to restart computer, or stop the installation. If I stop it and install a Bios update from somewhre else, would that fix possibly bad installation? Thanks in advance,Milo?

Hi, You're welcome  The flash would have occurred at boot, so as this didn't happen, your existing bios revision will not have been affected. My personal opinion would be to not update the bios unless the update corrects a problem you are experiencing or adds additional functionality that you require - if the machine is running Ok, then there's really no need to update. Note:  I see from your screenshot that your current bios revision is F.1A - there are 2 later revions listed for your notebook.  HP Bios updates are cumulative, so if you do wish to update, the latest version will contain all the fixes/enhancements offered by previous versions - the latest revision listed is Here. Regards, DP-K

HP Stream 13 ---  BIOS update hangs; power off hangs; unable to power off.  Do I just wait for the battery to run down?

Hi @JRMNY , Welcome to HP Forums! I have read you post and wanted to help. I understand that your laptop hangs at the BIOS update. Please try a hard reset to force the laptop shut down:Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.Remove the battery from the battery compartment.Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.If the hard reset does not work, the only other way is to wait the battery dry. Thanks for being a part of the HP community. Hello, When I want to update my drivers I always use HP Support Assistant. It always worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. The program is not able to download the latest updates for some reason. Please help me fix this issue! Thanks!

Yes, if updates are recommended by HP Support Assistant I would install them.  I suggest installing them one at a time by selecting them separately.  This will allow you to know which update causes a problem if one occurs.  I know this takes additional time, but it can certainly save frustration later. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I see 3 updates waiting in my Hp Support update box, i click on the update box but it continuosly loads unending. i would like to install these updates, Please help me with this issue.

Hi, I am upgrading Windows 7 machines to Windows 10 at my work and after the upgrade, I want to use HP Support Assistant to update the drivers. So, I click the Download and Install button and I'm taken to a page where it supposedly downloads and installs the updates. But it doesn't. Next to "Downloading" a green tick appears and underneath there are some static cogs next to "Installing" which has an "x" next to it. And that's it. I click the next button and I'm taken back to the page with the list of drivers that need updating and all the drivers I tried to update are still there saying they need to be updated.How do I update the drivers? It's extremely frustrating because the ethernet port doesn't work on most of the machines I'm upgrading until I update the driver.Thanks

Just had new mother board installed. Machine working fine. I believe tech turned off update for the HP Assistant. Tech had me turn power off during BIOS upgrade. Yes that is what I said... But new mother board and machine running fine now. When I got to the HP Assistant to look for updates/messages, It shows connected to server and then comes back with 'X' beside all the options. Any ideas on how to turn the thing back on... Thank You...Gerry..

I have received email messages recommending updates for my desktop, a BIOS upgrade and drive encryption upgrade. When I use Support Assistant to download/install the updates I am told that no updates are available. I have uninstalled Support Assistant and the corequisite Support Framework and reinstalled using the latest version (sp74656.exe) I found. So which is correct about the need for updates, Support Assistant or the emails. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. #HPExpertDayHPSA updates most appropriate drivers which helps the PC to perform to its fullest. There are different versions of same model, though the drivers would work, HPSA would validate and get the best drivers out there. Hi, I noticed that for a long time I didn't receive any update notification from "HP support assistant" so I went to HP drivers website to check by myself and I found updates . My problem is that when I press "Check for updates" in the HP support assistant, only the first step "Connecting to HP servers" passes and then all the other check steps fail starting from "Downloading messages and updates definitions" I re-downloaded and installed the app but that didn't help I'm on Windows 10 64-bit

I have recently purchased HP ALL IN ONE 20-c011IN. HP Support Assistant is unable to install the updates. It creates a restore points and then it shows installation in progress but does not get installed.

Product: HP Elitebook 8540wOS: Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit Today, I installed HP Support assistant from the HP website to update my system, especially my video driver. When I try updating my notebook, any of the updates available in the support assistant all fail the installation process.Creating a restore point CHECKChecking available disk space CHECKConnecting to HP serverser CHECKDowloading CHECKInstalling FAIL (grey cross is shown) The installation program starts, I see the monitor with the weels moving, and it takes quite a while, but every time the grey cross is shown and the update also won't disappear out of the assistant. What can I do to install these updates? The HP support assistant was not installed originally on this laptop, which is why it has never been updated and these updates are definitely needed!

Hi, You don't have to have the HP Support Assistant installed to update the drivers on your notebook. Go to the web support download web document for your notebook , download the updates that apply to your notebook's hardware and then install them. Sometimes the reason that an HP support program will not install is because the HP Software framework is not installed. Download it, Install it and then try reinstallihg the HP Support Assistant. Post your results here in your thread to share your experience whether it is positive or negative. Best regards,erico

I was notified of three updates two days ago and proceeded to install them before upgrading to Windows 10.I was warned that several restarts might be necessary.Several restarts did occur but I now find that every time I try to launch HP Assistant it simply tells me that a restart is necessary. This must have occurred at least 10 times.I cannot get any further and assume the software has ceased to function properly.

The hp Support Assistant has not been able to download updates since I got the laptop. I have resently tried to fix it.  I have unistalled the old version and successfully installed the new version.  However, it still cannot download the updates. Here is a link to troubleshooting the HP Support Assistant. I would start with the second link marked HP Support Assistant is stuck gathering information. I would think that it is a firewall or virus protection. Hello,I've an issue with HP Support Assistant. After having it updated through sp77062.exe downloaded from HP site, i click check for updated, it shows connecting to HP servers with green tick and all the others with gray X . However the title is completed. After that I unistalled it using revo too and deleted all the stored preferences and the history downloads, I installed it but the problem still persists!Do I miss something? What else may I do?

I recently updated to the most current version of HP Support Assistant available for my laptop: Version: 8.3.27.17Framework: 12.5.26.37Configuration Files: 8.0.6294.2155Contact Information: 37217103 Ever since the update, checking for updates and messages always fails.  Connecting to HP servers succeeds, and then it hangs on "Downloading messages and updates definitions" before it fails every remaining step. Is this happening to anyone else?  Is there a known workaround?

HP Support Assistant isn't working properly. On attempting to check for updates/messages, it connects to the HP server but then goes no further. I end up with the following:
 

 
I have removed and reinstalled it, but it makes no difference.
 
(Interestingly, the HP support site isn't recognising my laptop either on the 'identify now' option.)

Hello @caudex?, Open the Support Assistant and see what version you have.Usually the fix for this is to update it. Uninstall the current version, restart the PC, then download the new one and install it.Let me know how it turns out. This is the latest version from that models driver download page.8.3.34.7 Rev.Asp77062.exe

HP 250 G4 Notebook; Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz; System BIOS F.21; Windows 10 Home 64-bit HP Support Assistant Updates Action log is showing:- HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) as "Postponed until: 15/08/2016" even though the date today is 17/08/2016 and I have actually installed the BIOS update. Any ideas how to correct this.

So had to format my system yesterday,it usually takes around 2-3 hours for WU on"Checking for Updates" but this time it toke more than 12 hours to find them,when checked to start downloading them it wont download,it's been an hour now just " Downloading 246 updates(0 KB total,0% Complete)" is there any way to avoid this ? or is Microsoft that desperate ?

Hi Everyone....

I have been struggling thru this Win 7 update hassle on my two Dell PCs both running Win 7 , 64 bit, SP1, Windows firewall, and Avast Free. In the past, updates just took a while, but eventually, they went thru OK.

Suddenly, after this week's updates, one of my PCs got stuck at 0% downloading 5 selected updates since Tuesday. The other PC updated properly with no problem.

I have left the system on for hours on end, but it is still 0%.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

My Windows 10 version 1511 is set to download and install updates automatically but this morning, the updates download got stuck at 0% for a long time. Even after a reboot, it would not budge.
Do you guys have the same problem here?

Maybe during the downloading of the updates, I had turned off my notebook, so would that have a negative effect on the way the updates are downloaded or in process of downloading?
So for example, next time if there is a Windows Update and the downloads are in progress, is it OK to turn off my machine while Windows 10 is downloading the patches or security updates?

The only way I could recover from this mess, is that I read these steps from the below link.

But overall in general, the way Win10 handles these updates is a PURE MESS, and I hope in Redstone, this will be fixed.

I had a hard time updating my 10586 (1511) Version so I let it update and download over night. DON'T !! it also downloaded the "Feature update", meaning the anniversary update and tried to install that. I interrupted the update so Windows will be forced to go back to the 1511 Version.
Whenever a new cumulative update is available, I made it a habit to download it from the catalog:
Microsoft Update Catalog

that way I do not rely on the Windows update and can do that even disconnected from the web.. Has always worked for me...

This issue started this past Saturday Dec Per Windows Update Posting instructions Downloaded SURT When first tried to download SURT on Saturday it would not download But when tried again yesterday Sun Dec - it was successful However although it said the installation and 0% Windows at 7 Downloading stuck Updates-Checking of was successful and it showed up in Update History it did NOT show up in Installed Updates I tried it twice SFC Scan I read about doing this on other websites as well The first time I ran it it came back with the message that it fixed errors The nd time I ran it the results were no violations and when I ran Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% it a rd time which the attached CBS log is from it also had no errors Windows Update Error Codes The biggest problem is the check Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% updates Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% or the downloading updates just don't go anywhere I did get an error message when I tried to download SURT as mentioned above but I was able to get it downloaded yesterday The other error code I got was when I did a System Restore Point It came back with the xc code and said it didn't restore the system But it must have because the Update information was different and reflected the date of the restore points Plus any changes I had done were gone and reflected the date of the restore points And the other error code was from the Diagnostic Tool from the help feature in Windows I think it was the error that it said it couldn't fix It did list some other issues that it said it fixed but I did not write it down or get a screenshot I could run that tool again if needed to verify Log Collection I was not able to attach the CBS log - I tried times and each time received a server error And then realized it's because of file size Even my zip file is just too big Please advise on how to get the information Start New Thread Hopefully I did that correctly I spent quite a bit of time trying various other things - such as the restore points clean disk and I also did a Checkdisk from the cmd prompt I did foray into a slight addition to the registry from a suggestion from another website but ended up deleting it because I didn't think it fixed anything at all and I don't like messing with the registry I did a system restore point after that I also did the SoftwareDistribution folder thing that is mentioned on many websites but that didn't help either I did try the start and stop services from cmd prompt as well with no change either Currently my workaround is copying the updates from the Update Catalog and installing them one by one manually Obviously that is quite time consuming and as I did get months behind will take awhile to get through them all Plus I am concerned about the order I am doing the oldest first and also worried about making a mistake and or missing some So far I've managed to get installed and have verified they are showing up in Installed Updates I also ran the Fixit and the other diagnostic tool recommended on the MS websites The Fixit tool didn't seem to do anything at all and the other tool returned the error code mentioned above I also called my AV company AVG Internet Security and had them do a disable AV with me over the phone and attempted to download updates There wasn't any change I also disabled the AV again yesterday and there was no difference I have done full computer scans for viruses with no issues reported I greatly appreciate any and all assistance to get this resolved and thank you in advance for your time Regards Hank

This has never happened before but I can't download the latest batch of updates! I've tried downloading one at a time but it makes no difference, just stuck on downloading 0%. I've tried to go into services.msc to switch off windows updates but it says 'stopping' with the options to stop/re-start greyed out.

I've tried the windows trouble shooter which detects problems and then says resolving but again after 20 minutes or so it still says the same thing. Does it take a long time (perhaps I'm being impatient)?

I've run out of time tonight but will try the windows update system readiness tool tomorrow.

In the meantime, does anyone have ideas I could try? As I say, I've never had problems downloading updates before.

During a busy period, aware that Windows 10 can install itself by a sneaky update and being too busy to check each update that comes my way, I had disabled Windows Update. Only now did I remember to check for updates. I know, dumb.
There are 80 important updates that need to be installed. They all seem okay.

However, they've been downloading for over 90 minutes now, and the progress bar is still stuck at 0%. "Downloading 80 Updates (0 KB Total, 0% Complete)".

I thought these updates might solve my "slow PC issue" (referred to in my other thread), but the inability to download updates, makes me think there might be something seriously wrong with my computer.

Can it still be just a visual issue if nothing has happened after waiting for 90 minutes?

Yesterday when I started downloading windows update, only one update could be downloaded i. KB3114431. After that may be there was some sort of problem on the network and I could not download the other updates as my network was down at that time. so I disconnected from network and cancelled the downloads and shut down the computer. It normally installed the downloaded update. after that from today morning I am unable to download any updates. The network is fine, as I can browse the internet normally. But windows update screen keeps stuck at 0%. Though now the shut down button shows the alert icon for update installation as you can see in screenshot. Is there any way to fix it? Thank you.

I think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread and apologies if it has, but I can't find it momentarily.

The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.

Any advice, help????

I think the revamped Support Assistant is brilliant - especially for drivers where it checks your PC, rather than give you a list of driver updates for your model, as the old website-based Driver Update checker did. It has an "Add a device" facility but it doesn't find my HP DCP_J315W printer, connected via wireless. Does Support Assistant support printers? edited 08:07: typo

Question for everyone I work as a bench tech for a local computer store I repair and build build computers as well as consult with customers about their computers I have been told Support Assistant HP that HP support assistant is actually useful software At risk of sounding ignorant I have always been under the impression that it was pretty much junk software from HP and removed it along with a lot of other junk software that comes with the new computers like PDF complete Norton Internet Security -day trial etc But I have a couple guys here though that are swearing up and down that HP Support assistant works better when trying to get drivers HP Support Assistant for a new HP computer rather than just going straight to HP s website because quot HP s website HP Support Assistant doesn t have the most updated drivers quot I am having a hard time swallowing this so I thought I would ask around What say ye I would appreciate some answers nbsp

I can't really say personally yet because I haven't had my computer but 2 months. But, if it is software that has been installed on HP computers for years, then I haven't missed it because I have been purchasing HP computers for a long time. When I got this one, I searched the programs I was suspicious of, and HP Support Assistant, was one of them. Everything I read leaned more toward "didn't need it" so I uninstalled it. Time will tell I guess but their web site has always worked for me in the past when I needed drivers, etc.

Hi     is anyone besides me having trouble with there Hp support assistant? the contact Hp support chat will not show up on it. my warrantty tells me it is expired but its good until next year. refresh warrantty status does not work. check for latest version does not work i have tried to uninstall and reinstall it still does not work. i have even wiped out and reinstall the computer and windows 10 home 64 bit still does not work. can anyone please tell me what to do on getting this to work again? thank you for any help on this.

@Brad37?, welcome back to the forum. I know that you have uninstalled HPSA and reinstalled it, but try using the latest version found here.  I suggest that you use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall it.  I use the FREE version and the Advanced option.  This has corrected problems for other members using Win 10. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi, How can I disable the HP assistant from restarting my computer everytime it has an update. You only appear to be able to postpone it. It keeps interrupting what I'm doing, especially when I'm downloading software updates (large ones from apple) and then I have to start the download all over again. I have a slow ISP and it can take several hours to download an update. Days if it is interrupted.

Hello My computer is HP Pavilion 500-205eo and operating system is Windows 10 (64 bit). After november 2015 windows 10 update my HP Support Assistant finished to work. (Note that it worked after I upgraded my windows 8 to windows 10 on august or september 2015)I uninstalled and reloaded this HP Support Assistant. When trying to install it the operation finished  without completion and I got a message "Log in with administrator privileges". I tried the installing today (once again) but the result was the same as earlier.   I am the only user of my computer and I always log in as an administrator. Hp Support Assistant, stopped working after installing Windows 10 upgrade assistant. Have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, still will not work. HP Envy 17" is only, 4 months old, game with Windows 10 installed, this is the first upgrade to Windows 10. Don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Hi  Can anyone help... I have notice that when I check for new updates in the HP Support assistant I get the screen shown below... It appears that it is not working...   I know it was working OK, and I have just refreshed the warranty date so I know it speaks to the HP servers... Do the crosses mean there are no updates or it is not working?   I do have about 5 outstanding updates which I have not istalled could that cause this? I have been using HP Customer Support and HP Support Assistant to prepare for an upgrade to Windows 10 on my HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop PC (QP792AA#ABA) and am stopped by a disagreement between the two. Customer Support > Software and Drivers > HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop PC lists 32 programs or drivers as of 6/7/2016 as available. HP Support Assistant > My PC, Updates > Check for updates and messages as of 6/7/2016 states "No Updates are Available". Should I ignore HP Support Assistant and use Customer Support to download and install the 32 updates?

I just finished rebuilding my HP ENVY TouchSmart 17? m7-j120dx Notebook PC  with Windows 10 Professional (I did not do a recovery; I just booted from the ISO and installed a clean OS).  I would like to install the HP Support Assistant and I found the link to download it and I installed it but the only thing that appears to have installed is the HP Support Solutions Framework.  I have an HP ENVY Phoenix 860-180st Desktop to use as a reference and I see an actual HP Support Assistant in Add/Remove Programs on it but on my Notebook, I only see the Framework.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

So HP support assistant works terible on my computer and according to your support site support assistant has ALOT of ssues for me it started with everytime I used HP assistant support Support assistant it would make my computer crash completly where i HP support assistant manually had to shot it down So it got uninstalled but when I tried to scan with task manager it found an old file from the program but I couldnt get acces to the path I then decided to install it again to be able to run the scan efficiently HP support assistant But oh boy Now after i shut down the computer and turned it on again everything and I men EVERYTHING runs so slow you cant HP support assistant even fathom I am lucky if It can run any bigger programs so my question is do any other have the same issue experience nbsp Note any help from HP employee will be disregarded I have dealt with you before I hve done all the troubleshoot and YES the issue lies with you And since you wont accept that fact then I dont have any hope for you being able to actually asist with support on a product you made and thereby seeking of the ones actually willing to help - those dealing with the same issue as customer as I am Any advice other than the HP support is welcomed nbsp Thanks Dan

Problems with HP Support Assistant can sometimes be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing. I have left it uninstalled and check for software and driver updates manually. I prefer to get rid of software that leaves event viewer littered with errors. As does HPSA.

Some of the HP drivers were lost (HP 4480 desktop All-In-One) when I D/L W-10. Went to HP.com and replaced all drivers. All is well, except, I now have HP support assistant in my startup taskbar location. It is not listed in taskbar start section. Read where it can be beneficial, so maybe not uninstall it,,,just stop from startup.  Would like advice whether if it were NOT in startup, would it crash my other printer functions...? Do a scan with Malwarebytes and let us know results. Also, check the Event Viewer. (ControlPanel/System'/Admin Tools/Event Viewer) and Device Manager to insure drivers are updated.

Can the HP Support Asst be uninstalled and reinstalled from the HP Support Site ? May be best.

You also may want to check the HP Support Forum and website for info and to insure you have latest HP drivers.

I am having a problem with HP Support Assistant. It has an error occurred on the top. When I try to uninstall it it also has an error message saying Error # 1315 A network error occurred whilr attempting to read from C:\Windows\Installer\HP Support Assistant.. Then it says C:\swsetup\SP58915\Metro.xml

I tried getting it fixed through HP but after 3 hours on the phone he was not able to help.

So far, the only software to cause me serious problems is the HP Support Assistant, which has not only locked up the PC twice but also chewed up 99% CPU. Have tried to remove it from the Startup using HP's own online instructions - which are wrong. Starting msconfig and then clicking on the Startup tab says that I have to use Task Manager. But the latter does not list Support Assistant - although there is an anonymous 'Program' which looks suspicious. So have basically resorted to turning off anything I can from within Support Assistant. Result is that PC is running much better. Please spare us this malware.

Hello everybody. As many HP users, I use to run HP Support Assistant to check for the availability of updated drivers and software for my Envy 4 ultrabook. I'm running the most recent version of Support Assistant.A few days ago, I've noticed that Support Assistant cannot connect to the Internet and look for updates, but it was able to download and install the upgraded version that I'm currently running. This strange behaviour began after installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, that created some network adapters probably related to the Windows Phone Emulator. I can say for sure that my network connectivity works fine, but the program still reports that it cannot detect an Internet connection.Is there any known issue involving Visual Studio 2013 and HP Support Assistant? Thank you. Bye.

Hi I am facing 2 problems: 1) How do I turn on my keyboard lights (backlit)? I"ve tried to open Support Assistant in all the ways possible and it will not open. The only link I have to it is in "Start", "help and support", and when I click on HP Product Assistant, I get a box saying "The software program is not found" - yet I have installed (successfuly?) it twice. It is not found in "Control Panel" nor is ther any icon anywhere. How can I create a connection between the link and the program - if indeed it is on my PC. I have a desktop Hp Pavillion Model #: p6120t
Software Build #: 93NAv3PcA5, with Windows 7 (HP provided upgrade at purchase) and need help.

Problem with supoort assistant when i use it to check for Hp updates it says conecting to hp server which goes okay but then it just stops on the 'Downloading messages and updates defintion'. then all i can do is click next which just takes me back to the support assisant home page thing. ive tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and that hasnt helped.

In the lower right hand corner or my screen HP support assistant is available.  I clicked on the assistant and found I had three messages all dealiing with the printer.  There was a yellow triangle over the Assistant icon.   I read and attended to all the messages, but the yellow triangle is still there.  I called HP support for my printer and they indicated that it was a computer problem not a printer problem even though every message dealt with the printer.  Can anyone help me get rid of the yellow triangle.Thanks so much

In trying to use the HP Support Assistant program, I get an error message stating that the "HPSF.exe has stopped working".  When I select OK to restart the application, I get the same error message.  Attempts to try and download the program have failed.  Thanks for any help.

HP support assistant sent me an urgent message (two exclamation points) telling me "important action needed" and that windows firewall is off. I checked windows firewall through the control panel and it shows windows firewall is on for both public and private networks. Why is HP support assistant telling me that the firewall is off and windows is showing the firewall on?? Is the firewall on or off and how do I fix this issue?

If Control Panel shows it as on then it is on. There is sometimes a glitch with Support Assistant only looking for the security software (trial) that comes on many HP machines. If your machine came with McAfee Security Suite or Norton and you uninstalled it that may be what support assistant is looking for. Just ignore the warning- should be an option to delete or ignore.

It´s related to HP Support Assistant software.I have 8 actualizations items pending to be included in the system.When I chose some of these and I push DOWNLOAD & INSTALL, the software begins with the first one, open a new screen, and works fine until the item download is started, and looks like there is an eternal loop and the progress bar never go ahead.  HPSA keeps showing the updates for drivers, which already have been updated an hour ago. Whenever I open the HPSA, It keeps showing all the drivers, Even Updates ones under the action log. And if you select any of them, it prompts for a Download and Install for selected one (Even if it has been updated a few minutes ago).Is it a bug/error in software because if I have updated all the suggested drivers and run "Check FOr Updates" manually, then the action log should be cleared if all the drivers are up to date. But that's not the case. It  keeps listing the recently updated drivers and starts downloading them again, if selected.Although it up to the user whether to download them again or not, But the question is, Why the hell the option of selecting and dowloading the Updated Drivers being provided there????

HiI'm not sure that I am in the right area but...HP Support Assistant has a message with two Exclamation Marks re clearing jams. When I click on it and read the information, I cannot get rid of the message. At the end of the information, I am supposed to click on options as to whether I have found this information to be valuable. When I click the appropriate option, I am supposed then to be taken to a new window. This does not happen. I cannot get rid of the message and when I click the bin Icon, it disappears but reappears when I click on the Support Assistant again. Can someone help?

Support Assistant Message regarding issue printer had upon initial installation over a year ago that hasn't recurred since won't truly delete. Left-clicking the trash can icon causes the message to disappear from that window, but the yellow triangle remains on both the tray / toolbar icon and the printer device icon, and either toggling tabs or closing and reopening show the message reappearing. Others with a similar issue appear to have tried reinstalling, or uninstalling and reinstalling Support Assistant with no success. One reported apparently spontanous resolution, but that has yet to occur for days now.

I have had my HP Laptop for going on a year now, and I have had no issues with it or Windows 7. My problem is that the HP Support Assistant will not work properly and never has. Repair Disc - sfc /scannow - Error Checking - Diagnostic Tool

1. Error Checking- CD not needed
Start - my computer - right click local disk (C) - properties - Tools Tab -
Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start -
This requires a restart to begin.
2. Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK
Don't forget the space between c and /
You will need the Recovery CD if any thing is found wrong.
Not sure what CD would be needed for Windows 7
Their are 3 Install CD
Don't insert unless asked for.

Create a System Repair Disc - It may say DVD but a CD works OK
With the Repair Disc in the tray, Restart your computer and be ready
to press any key when asked.
If it doesn't find and fix right off than click next and follow directions

Just recently I have had a problem with HPSA not updating with any of the updates there have been. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and now no updates are there. I have tried checking for updates and messages but after it connects, it then fails (shows gray x-mark instead of green checkmark) to complete the remaining steps: Downloading messages and updates definitionGathering configuration informationAnalyzing your systemPreparing the action listI have tried doing an advanced uninstall through Revo and reinstalling through the website but with no success.  I did not uninstall the framework as I felt this could cause more problems.  Are there any suggestions? Recently I upgraded my netbook from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and after successful update I decided to install HP support assistant. I installed it and it doesn't opened. After doing lots of restarts, install/unisnstall it was the same. P.S. Also I tried to install HPSupport Sollutions to get my computer model name but it says that it tries to get version 11.5... , and Windows 10 stock applications say that I  am not connected to internet wile I am connected and can easily surf the web.

I just downloaded and tried to install sp50843 after having used Remove Program from Control Panel to uninstall previous SP version.

During the last stages of the install I am getting a pop-up with the message:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. The window name that appears is: HPSF_Utils.exe - Application Error

Anyone have any idea of a fix for this problem?

Hi For the record I am on a HP Pavilion -g c x AMD A - APU w Radeon HD Graphics computer running Windows and using IE with Zone Alarm Firewall and Antivirus Spyware as my security I have only been using this All-In-One computer and the installed Win system for about two weeks now ever since my former machine running Windows Pro decided it was time to die Slowly but surely things are starting to fall into place using this new Windows system However for one reason or another I can no longer get 'HP Support Assistant' to open up I say no longer because when I first got this system I did have it open for me but I never used it I just made a shortcut and load on 8.1 Assistant Win HP Support won't moved on to other things Now when I HP Support Assistant won't load on Win 8.1 click on my shortcut it brings up the HP Support Assistant window but it just sits there and acts like it is trying to open but it doesn't Same thing when I try to open the actual program When I go to the file location I note that it was last modified Aug when I was on my other machine running Win Pro Any ideas how to get it working again Thanks and regards harts ever

HP Support Assistant has been very problematic. It works of some Windows 8/8.1 but not on others and nobody knows why. It is a useless piece of software and suggest you do use it. I have tried it, some days it works and some days it doesn't, it has been very inconsistent. I also have seen cases where it has bricked the system especially where the BIOS is concerned. There are plenty of tools online that are free for the most part you can use that would do a better job.

When i run the HP Support Assistant in my notebook (model HP Split x2 PC), it just keeps asking me to reboot or delay the reboot to 1 hr later.I simply can't proceed to next step at all.Even if I follow the instruction and rebooted my notebook, when rerun the HP support assistant app again. The same issue keep poping up. I can't not proceed to next step. Click delay the reboot for (eg. 1 hr) will just close and quit the app. How to fix? Thanks,Nkboy

It is probably corrupt. Uninstall the HP Support Assistant and then use the recovery manager -->Install drivers and applications option to reinstall it.

Hello, we have two identical desktops HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF running Windows 10 (64 Bit) with the most recent Windows updates installed. On both of them today I have installed the HP Support Assistant. The version info of the Support Assistant says: HP Support Assistant: 8.3.27.17Framework: 12.5.26.37Configuration files: 8.0.6294.2155Contact information: 37386108 All updates for the Support Assistant software have been installed on both machines. While on one of the desktops the Support Assistant works fine and could download and install the  available updates on the other machine the update process stops before downloading the updates with the following screen:Several uninstall/reinstall cycles (with reboots after each step) did not help to remedy this issue.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. KInd regards, Hans-Georg

I am unable to open HP support assitant. It was working fine. I read about updating to the latest BIOS and drivers to prevent thermal shutdown. So I fixed that problem by updating latest BIOS and drivers. After that HP support assitant does not open. I tried uninstall and install. I did system recovery - basically undoing more than a day's worth of work updating things. Still cannot get HP support assitant to open up. While searching this forum I came across that several people have had this problem. We are recommended to update to the latest drivers. But if you do that then you have other problems. We buy computers to help us do our work. But it is frustrating when we are left to spend days trying to work around a system that does not work seamlessly. Please help!!

Hello everyone, my HP Support Assistant doesn't open either from clicking the (?) icon in the taskbar or double clicking directly from the file location. Reinstalled twice but it still happens. I noticed when I try to start the program, HPSF.exe appears in processes tab in task manager but nothing else appears.
