I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I have an Samsung SSD EVO 850 (250GB), 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a I3-2120 (Sandy Bridge) CPU
Running windows 7 with service pack 1 ( 6.1.7601 according to ver command)
Boot takes 60 seconds to load.
Been trying Sfc /scannow

Here is some useful stuff from my computer:
ntblog.txt
System information log
System (Event viewer)

I have also found this guide guide
At first i have choosen the first one - Only discovering problems but without repairing them.
Rebooted my pc then went to the event viewer. There i have seen that ArcSec Driver has failed to start.
I have switched to the second option that includes repair, rebooted my pc and nothing. nothing has changed.
I have launched Autoruns Sysinternals and found some problems - deleted some, disabled some but it changed nothing. Still boot takes 60 seconds (from the moment "starting windows" is on the screen till you can type a password)

I'm dual booting with windows 7 and ubuntu 12.04.
I followed this http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/05/17/how-to-dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-7/2/.

For a few months it has been running smoothly without problems. But a couple of days ago my computer
is slow to load up.

Note everything is working fine after bootup. But I'm really paranoid because it seems like the it takes a few seconds before it boots up when it used to load up instantly before probably for 5-7 seconds only.

Here's what's happening.

1. When switching the pc on. For about 30 seconds and more, nothing appears on monitor. It is completely black, nothing appears with the just monitor switch blinking and the 3 lights on the keyboards don't yet flash. But when I'm restarting, the boot process only loads about for about 10 seconds after which is not yet normal as compared to before.
2. Only after that particular seconds, then my pc will load up.

Might be worth your while to check what programmes are in Startup.
Open "Task Manager".....click on "Startup".....then disable any that you don't need for starting the computer.

Now to be clear I'm almost positive the issue is with my USB hub, Plugable. The ($5 Dell) keyboard is plugged into this hub which is powered via AC and connected to my back side USB ports.

When my computer is booting, I have full keyboard control.

When Windows loads, it takes 75s for the keyboard and mouse (which are both plugged in via the hub) to become usable. Kinda kills the joy of the SSD boot time. >:|

I'm assuming there's some service or .dll or something that loads way later than it has to, and I'm hoping I could bump it up. Can you help me out?

Hi everyone,
Need a new laptop for my computer science degree, considered quite a few. Was just wondering if anyone has an oppinion on the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2516, I would upgrade it as follows:
i5-460m processor
windows 7 home premium 64
3/4GB RAM
320GB 7200rpm hard drive
9 cell battery
Anyone think i should upgrade it differently, I'd like to get it a little cheaper so where if anywhere should i make the cuts in upgrades?
Has anyone got this laptop? is it particularly heavy to carry around?

A:What do you think of the Lenovo ThinkPad T410?

what the difference in 3 and 4GB memory - i would not expect you to use that amount of memory unless you are using some special heavy memory programs

what other choice of CPUs do you have

Recently my T has been overheating and shuttind down after a few hours of browser usage I believed this was due to a heating problem so I finally got under the keyboard today only to find little to no dust or after shuts seconds power approx. on T410 20 down debris clogging up the heatsink fan Just to be safe T410 shuts down approx. 20 seconds after power on I hit it with the compressed air again After reassembling the laptop now shutdown after a short period of being powered on This shutdown happens regardless of me getting into windows loading or getting into the BIOS setup I think this too may be an overheating problem as I see and hear the fan spinning up harder before the sudden shutdown nbsp nbsp I've tried everything from running with only the AC in only one ram card in holding the power button for seconds prior to actually powering up etc Is there any more troubleshooting I should preform or should I just accept the fact I'm better off handing this to a repair professional nbsp nbsp Side note After reassemble I had screws that didn't fit anywhere on the exterior casing maybe I mistook a screw placement and now it's somehow short circuiting

About two weeks ago, I began getting BSODs on a 9 month old ThinkPad T410 running Win Professional 7x64, OEM. This is the original install of the OS, and there have been no recent hardware changes. Prior to this issue, the machine has performed without any failures.

Today's failure happened quite spontaneously (or so it seemed to me) while the ThinkPad was sitting unattended and unused for about 15 minutes.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Hello there,I wanted to get all my data from my old Thinkpad T410, so I took out the SSD which was installed in it and connected it to my newer Computer. The problem is that my new bought Computer did not recognize the drive at all, so I tested the drive externally on my Thinkpad and this doesn't recognize it either nor will it boot from it when it is connected via USB. I tested the drive on Windows, Linux and MacOS, there are no problems with my external connector, my Thinkpad boots without problems from other USB-Drives and the drives work internally without any problems. On Linux, the drives are detected but not mountable and not formatable... I hope someone has an answer to this problem

Hello,
I am having trouble getting the built-in wireless adapter on this laptop to get connected to the internet. I have installed the following driver:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-73611
but have had no luck. there are no available wireless connections I can connect to.
I have also tried to use USB wireless adapter TP-LINK TL-WN725N to connect to internet. It is able to find available connections but when it tries to connect it says unable to connect and give options to troubleshoot. Once troubleshoot is complete it says to investigate router or access point issues. I have reset the router many times. Other devices are working fine with the internet just not this laptop.
I am running windows 7 64Bit.
Please help.
Thanks

A:Lenovo Thinkpad T410 wireless issue

Can you connect the laptop to the router using a cable at all ?

using just the laptop wireless adapter
unlikely to be this as it is reporting NO networks available - but check anyway please
Check the wireless is switched ON
theres often a physical switch or a combination of the FN and one of the F keys to toggle the wireless on/off
often F2 is used - but note , not always - look for a symbol that looks a little like (( i ))

is the wireless on?

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

My Dell Dimension PC has Windows Pro log to Win screen XP in reach 20 takes minutes XP Pro SP installed When I start the computer it goes through the DOS screen and then moves to the black Windows start up screen with MS Windows XP Logo and the blinking blue progress indicator At the end of this cycle an error message in a square box appears for a fraction Win XP Pro takes 20 minutes to reach log in screen of a second making it impossible to read it Then the blue Windows screen appears with the message Windows is starting up It stays like that for about twenty minutes before the log on screen appears After the password is entered the computer works normally Possibly if I could read the error message it would help Is there a way of stopping the start up process at this point to allow the error message to be read Would this error message be recorded by Windows elsewhere so that it can be examined The other option is to reload Windows but I would like to try to fix this issue before I take this path Hoping someone can help Thanks nbsp

I don't know much about this kind of stuff. So I'm asking you guys. Why is my screen taking so long to brighten up? if I go afk for a bit and it hibernates it takes forever to brighten back up to 100%. If I shut it down and start it up it takes 4ever to brighten up again. Help. Is my monitor dying? I just swaped vid cards so I know it's not that. Is my cpu dying?

A:Monitor screen takes a long time to reach full brightness.

How old is the monitor ? the older a monitor gets the weaker it gets . It might still work for many more years but you never know it could die tomorrow ! so go ahead and start putting some money aside for a new screen . but see the positive side of this , you prbly wanted a bigger, nicer and better screen anyways , right ???

A:xp hangs at boot up scree

Hello there welcome to the forum.

Firstly I would disconnect any unnecessary devices connected to the machine such as printer, scanner, external hard drive and also cables.

Have the machine running only with the mouse/keyboard, power and monitor cable.

Is this machine a custom build or one purchased? if prebuilt what make and model?

You said you tried safemode how about last known good config or safemode with cmd?

1) Temporarily disconnect the power cable and hold the power switch for 30 seconds.

2) If you are comfortable with opening a machine then do so, depending on the make and model of the case in general the case should have two panels, one on the left and the other on the right. Try to unscrew the two screw on the right, once cover is open look to make sure everything is properly seated and connected.

3) Close the cover or leave it open, get hold of you Windows XP copy then insert into the machine. Do a hard shutdown and start-up again, check to see if it boots of the CD if not you may need to access BIOS and change the boot order to CD first. If it boots press any key to continue. When XP is loaded at the first option choose R, then press enter, if a password is asked unless set. Type the number corresponding to your installation.

In recovery console type [b]Chkdsk C: /r /p (C: should be replaced with where the LOCAL DISK Hard Drive is and the letter)

When completed type fixmbr to fix master boot record do this only if machine is not infected.

finally type exit

The file you mentioned could be corrupt so this will check this and recover it.

4) If you cannot access the above or it does not work then access BIOS and make sure when you exit to choose load default set-up and then choose exit save changes. This will fix any configuration problems.

If you still cannot fix the problem, take the hard drive out if IDE put as slave in another machine, if SATA connect to another computer like usual. If you don't have another computer then you may need to purchase an IDE to USB or SATA to USB connector.

If you need your data badly and can't purchase the above product burn a disc called ULTIMATE BOOT CD FOR WINDOWS from Google.

Reply back to see if any has worked or if you still have the same problem.

I upgraded from Win 8 Pro with Media Center to 8.1 Pro with Media Center. Upgrade went smooth (but what's with going completely thru the install BEFORE asking if you accept the new license?)

But now it takes 15 seconds to open the right click menu on the desktop as opposed to probably less than 1/10 of a second before. All other right clicks seem normal. No significant CPU usage during the wait.

If it matters, I'm pretty damn vanilla but I do have Start8 and ModernMix.

Also if its significant, Catalyst Control Panel won't start (I'll reinstall the latest but it was current less than a week ago).

Also my secondary monitor is set to the correct resolution (1920x1080) but its shrunk with a more than half inch black border around it. I'm hoping the Catalyst/driver reinstall fixes this too.

A:Win 8.1 desktop right click takes 15 seconds!

I just noticed it has the time wrong also. I'm still set to Arizona time (no DST) but it incorrectly shows time an hour later than actual and when I change to a different timezone it stays an hour off from what that time zone actually is.

I hope I didn't make a mistake by not waiting a week to upgrade.

I can check Win7 64 bit to see what the problem is? I have Opera 12 installed on 2 other computers (one with Win7 64 bit and the other w/XP) and the browser opens within seconds. The delay is only happening on the wife's computer. I changed no settings on Opera when I installed the upgrade to 12 so I am guessing it is the PC that is causing the painful delay.
I un-installed it twice, installed it once to her SSD and then again on her HDD and there was no change in the startup delay-it is driving me crazy.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Jeff

A:Opera 12 takes 15-17 seconds to start up-is there anyway

If you upgraded from a previous version, maybe it's due to a setting or something carried over from the older version. Why not try a fresh install from scratch? You can do a "portable" install into a new folder somewhere and try if that copy starts fast.

What could be causing this. It used to come up immediately when I clicked on the icon on my desktop. Could it be the anti-virus software checking it out before it allows it to open?

A:Recycle Bin takes 15 seconds to open up

Usually happens if you've added any hard drives (esp external ones) and they've gone to sleep. The delay is caused by the wake-up time since there's a separate database of deleted files on every drive. message edited by phil22

I had a virus. One of your tech guys worked with me over the past week to remove the problem and get me back up and running. The other problem I had that started about the same time was never resolved. I hadn't accessed my business software which is the worst - so I told him he could close the ticket. When I bring up my business software, it loads from top to bottom, very slowly. It actually looks like it loads another screen first. Others that use this software are not experiencing the problem. I also have a small problem with java script. It is enabled but the video's say it's not. I ran it last night in safe mode but don't know how to get it to run normally. Thanks,

A:It takes 6 and 30 seconds to load a .doc document?

First off, please clarify...

You state that you are opening a .doc file... I am assuming that you mean a MS Word file (.doc or .docx), is that the case?

You are using Open Office to do this?

How are you opening these files? Are you finding file and double clicking on file to open both app and doc, or are you opening app (Open Office) and then opening doc through it?

I assume that all your mobo drivers, etc are correctly setup...???

Hello all,

Can someone help me figure out a problem my Windows 7 has while loading user credentials thumbnail? Lately it has been taking good 20 to 30 seconds right after the Please Wait screen to load all user credentials thumbnails! And even if after clicking a thumbnail, it takes about 5+ seconds to display password box. I have tried googling this issue but so far no luck.

Any suggestion or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A:Windows 7 takes 20 to 30 seconds after Please Wait screen

this problem may be cos you have a lot of startup programs turned on, also unnesecary services etc...

press start and type msconig and press enter.
select startup tab and click disable all button or manulay uncheck items.
now select services tab and check hide all microsoft services checkbox then click disable all button.
select boot tab and type number 3 into Timeout box and press OK

press start and type disk cleanup and enter.
when disk cleanup tool analyzes your drive check all the checkboxes and
clean up you C: partion (where windows is installed) using this tool.

goto C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp (change Admin with your username)
empty whole temp folder by selecting all files and folder and delete them.

finaly empty your recycle bin and restart computer.
see what changes you've achived and post the results.

also you may full scan your comp with Antivirs and defrag HD using defragmenter(start>defrag>enter)

after all these steps your may update windows and restart again.

cheers.

Hi,
I am having issues with people having the "Running security scan" running for around 20-30 seconds on downloads via Internet Explorer 11. While I totally understand the need for it, I am presuming that it can't be switched off ? (despite people
saying to untick "Enable SmartScreen Filter").
The trouble is that this is now becoming an issue for people downloading documents internally from SharePoint servers and SQL Reporting servers - how can I adjust the behaviour of this scan ?

Or are there any updates that have known to cause issues with this (I've checked out the KB3076895 one) ? How does the malware/phishing component of SmartScreen Filter get it's updates or is it an external call to a web site hosted elsewhere ?
Our environment is Windows 7 (tested on Windows 10 and the same thing happens), Office 2010 / Office 2013 (happens in both) and IE11. Any pointers to resolve this issue gratefully received !
Many thanks.
Brian.

I have been fighting a problem with a new Windows deployment for over weeks now I need to deploy over Windows Pro systems by August for a school corporation and I have been stalled on this one issue I am using Windows MDT Update for deployment The computers I am deploying images to are Lenovo Thinkpad E C and E laptops I have deployed new images to domain seconds during logon AUInstallAgent takes 600 about laptops in a lab that all have experienced the problem The problem presents itself during a domain user logon to a Windows Pro system After the user types in their domain user name and password the login process looks normal for AUInstallAgent takes 600 seconds during domain logon the first seconds Then instead of displaying the Start screen the screen goes black for minutes After the minute delay the Start screen displays and everything runs normally The problem is random It is not specific AUInstallAgent takes 600 seconds during domain logon to any user account or laptop Sometimes a user can log into a laptop with no problem and then the same user can log into the same laptop and get the minute delay I opened a case with Microsoft Product Support on but so far that has gotten me no where They gathered a ton of logs but did not give me any analysis They examined my Group Policies and spent an hour on one of the systems that experienced the minute delay during the login I started so I could get them set up with a remote session So far no solution I did some research of my own and came across the Windows Performance Toolkit in the Windows SDK I ended up putting the Windows Performance Toolkit on of the laptops I am testing That toolkit has the Windows Performance Recorder WPR which is the replacement for XPERF and Windows Performance Analyzer WPA Part of WPR is the XBootMgr exe which allows me to record activities during the boot process On each computer I ran the command xbootmgr exe -Trace Boot This caused the laptop to reboot and start recording the boot and login process to the etl file After the laptop finally got to the desktop ran the Windows Performance Analyzer and loaded the etl file that xbootmgr had generated I expanded System Activity-- gt Windows Logon-- gt Notification StartShell-- gt SessionID -- gt Subscriber AUInstallAgent and could see that the AUInstallAgent was taking seconds In systems that did not present the delay the AUInstallAgent took less than a second to complete If I do a Search for AUInstallAgent in the Windows search I get nothing I looked in the local Windows services on one of the laptops I am testing and I find quot Windows All-User Install Agent quot is a service with a Service name of AUInstallAgent I has a manual startup type In the description it says quot Install AppX Packages for all users quot and the path to executable is c windows system svchost exe -k LocalSystemNetworkRestricted After some web searching I have learned that the AUInstallAgent has to do with the install of Start Screen Metro Apps AppX and I found several posts saying that the service would not start and was preventing updates from the Windows store but nothing about it causing slow domain logins Do you have any idea why this service seems to randomly hang for seconds during a domain user logon Thanks in advance for any help Dave

A:AUInstallAgent takes 600 seconds during domain logon

I do not have any experience with your situation, but it appears the information you are getting about the boot process is very basic. Did Microsoft suggest you run a utility called Process Monitor, which can be set to monitor the boot and create a log?

If not, I would go to the SysInternals site and download and run it. There are tutorials on how to set it up, but you can set it to monitor the boot sequence. In your situation, it will probably show something being done over and over, or time gaps where nothing is being done.

I am sure a Domain setup is different from normal user setup, but your might try disabling the service you mention (AllUserInstallAgent) for testing. It is disabled in a non-domain type install, or at least it is in 8.1

Sorry I can't help more.

Edit: I forgot to mention, just in case it might be relevant, that update KB2821895 made some fairly serious changes. You might want to check out the info page in the link. At the bottom it does state you will want to run DISM.exe prior to deployments.

A servicing stack update is available for Windows RT and Windows 8: June 2013

Not sure why it happened but a month or so ago, my computer became infected by a virus pretending to be an antivirus / spyware / malware program (i don't remember the virus name, sorry). So I got Malwarebytes and was able to remove it (how thoroughly I'm not sure). After that happened though, saving images from the internet as .jpgs now take 35 seconds before the window to save actually appears. can anyone help out please?

I updated malwarebytes just today and ran a full scan just now on safe mode but it didn't find anything wrong.
I also did a cleanup of my harddrives to delete approx 4gbs of unwanted data and did a defrag afterwards.

the lag to save pictures still happens though.

A:"save picture as" takes 35 seconds before actually saving

Oke, Before I can say amything about it , I have to get more data.Could you do these steps : Download AdwCleaner(by Xplode) on your desktop.Launch it, click on [Delete] and wait for the scan. When the scan ends, notepad with the report will appears. The program will close all active programs. Click OK to confirm that.On the next two windows that open ( Informations and Restart required ) click OK The computer will restart and open a notepad ( C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt ) with the report.Save the notepad report on the DesktopPlease attach here C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt Roelof

I am running Windows XP pro and when my laptop bots up it displays the background image but the icons do not come up until 30 seconds later. Removing the background image keeps this from happening but the machine has plenty of memory so I am wondering: Is it simply the background image or is this a sign that something else could be wrong? Thanks!

In our company we have migrated from Toshiba to Lenovo laptops/tablets.  Recently users have been reporting that their T410 laptops are very very slow.  Most of the time they over estimate the slowness time, but this time it's not.  I checked the device and it takes 4-5 minutes from powering on the device to getting the ctrl+alt+del screen.  In that time, there is a few seconds where the screen goes completely black, then comes back. After logging in, it takes another 5-6 minutes to get to the desktop.  I've checked the Hard Drive, memory, spyware, etc. and everything checks out.  The user states that this only started happening a couple of weeks ago.  He's had the device for about a year. Anyone else noticing this type of slowness and what could be causing this issue? Thanks

What happens if you load a program such as HWInfo32 to ensure that the CPU isn't running too slowly? When running HWInfo32, the CPU speed should match or exceed the adverstised speed of the laptop whenever some program is actively using the CPU.

When I open a .doc file in word 2003 for the first time, the document opens, then is sometimes briefly editable (maybe for 1 or 2 seconds), then word freezes for exactly sixty seconds (regardless of the document size).

Having opened the file in word and re-save it as a .doc file (without making any changes), subsequent reopening the same file happens almost immediately, although the file is now 4kb larger.

I'm pretty sure this started happening shortly after I installed the Microsoft Compatibility pack for Office 2007 to get support for .docx / pptx / .xlsx files.

Any ideas why, is anybody else having this problem? Certainly a couple of my colleagues are having the same issues. Powerpoint and Excel seem to be unaffected.

Hello I m using Windows XP SP For the past several seconds Explorer takes locks Windows up load, about to randomly 20-40 months Windows Explorer had been slow to open maybe about - seconds but since it wasn t THAT long I just lived with it Unfortuantely recently it Windows Explorer takes about 20-40 seconds to load, locks up randomly has begun taking much longer - seconds as well as randomly locking up and crashing Symptoms - It s happening in any Windows Explorer window If I press Ctrl-E it happens as well as using a folder shortcut to open My Documents although if I open My Documents the wait is only about - seconds - When pressing Ctrl-E there is a delay of about - seconds before Windows Explorer opens at all It then opens with an hour glass shows me my drives folders but without icons next to them The hour glass stays for about - seconds until finally I can click on something When navigating through Windows Explorer opening a new drive or a folder that contains a lot of files oftentimes causes it to lock up for about seconds as the hard drive spins loudly - When returning to my desktop typically about of the desktop items have the default quot Can t find the icon quot icon that windows uses Slowly over the course of about seconds the correct icons load and I hear the hard drive spinning loudly - Lately I ve also been occasionally getting blue screens reboots What I ve done - Updated and done full system scan with AVG free Found nothing - Updated and done full system scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Found nothing - Performed a clean boot Had same problem with Windows Explorer delay - Ran Windows Debugger on the minidump file that was created of the last BSOD I won t post the whole thing here but the last line came back with quot Probably caused by MA sys MA quot which is a driver for my M-Audio external USB ASIO sound device This has been working fine and the driver hasn t been updated since XP was first installed on this machine - Ran Chkdsk r on C found nothing - Ran SMART test on all hard disks passed And now I m running out of ideas so I thought I d post here and see if anyone had any additional ideas I know typically you request a HJT log but I wanted to post to make sure I didn t miss any obvious steps before I posted that The odd thing is no other programs seem to be running slow Firefox IE Office etc all run fine Additionally when I browse files through another program like using the quot Save as quot file option all folders load quickly and there is no delay It s just Windows Explorer and of course the occasional BSOD which is a pain that happens about once a week I m getting to the end of my rope and tempted to just do a clean re-install of XP but I m hoping to upgade to Windows next month anyway so I d like to try to get this install of XP to last until then Thanks for any help

A:Windows Explorer takes about 20-40 seconds to load, locks up randomly

FWIW: A damaged system file...may not show any observable impact to the user from damage...but it may be reflected in system operation. The fact that any driver for a device...appears to be working properly...can be superficial and erroneous. It's also good to remember that in a system...something wrong with one file may manifest itself in a malfunction of something else. Examples are all the various types of memory errors...which are really caused by something other than memory but manifest themselves in the functioning of system memory. If you have a .dmp error file which fingers a given driver as having problems...IMO, it's having problems. At the least, I would uninstall it and then reinstall it.It might be a good idea (certainly won't hurt) to run the sfc /scannow command. This is designed to detect and replace any damaged or missing system files. How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System Files - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/43051/how-to-use-sfcexe-to-repair-system-files/ Louis

Hello pintree,

Yes, this is normal when you have Windows set to Turn off hard disk after X amount of idle minutes instead of "Never". If you like, the tutorial below can helps how you how to set this to "Never" to no longer have your hard drives turn off.

Hope this helps,

I bought a used IBM Thinkpad T20 Thinkpad Type 2647-92U from eBay for use this semester on campus. It is in great shape and has a recent edition of Windows XP but an older version of MS Office which does not boot properly.

This computer was a part of a network and keeps trying to connect to it each time Windows loads. It came with a LinkSys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter 2.4 GHz 802.11g card.

The CD is an official copy; clean and has no scratches or nicks. The DVD/CD-ROM will boot other CD's such as music CD's and DVD films and data discs with MS Word files etc on them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yours,

Kyklopes

That T-20 is pretty long in the tooth. I suspect your optical drive either needs cleaning, or is worn beyond repair.
Did you try the CD in another drive as a double check?

Hi everyone!

I tried to ignore this problem, but it has become increasingly frustrating when I have to work with files in Windows Explorer.

The problem is, when I right-click on a file and choose Properties, it takes 5-8 seconds to open the File Properties Window. Strangely, when I do the same with folders (Folder Properties) the window opens almost instantaneously as it should. I have tried to fiddle around with ShellExView but to no avail - after all, I assume that program is just for controlling context menu entries. I searched and googled but I couldn't find any similar problems, the closest I got was that software.

Do you know what's the problem? Thanks in advance!

A:Windows Explorer takes 5-8 seconds to open a File Properties window!

You can keep disabling more non-microsoft extensions in shellexview and see if any of them are causing it (do a system backup first)

I've noticed that when my computer first boots up, Windows Defender opens almost immediately when I double-click the system tray icon, but after opening it the first time, subsequent attempts take ~10 seconds after double-clicking the icon.
Any ideas? I've already checked and it's not in the middle of a scan or anything. Also, I've opened Defender from the settings menu (there's a button that says "Open Windows Defender") and it opens instantaneously via this button even when it's opening slowly from the system tray.

Is this normal behavior or is something strange going on here? This is basically a completely fresh install of Win 10 and I'm pretty sure I don't have any viruses or malware going on...

A:Windows Defender takes ~10 seconds to open from system tray icon

Mine (Ver 1607 AU) does the same? When I open from system tray, it takes a long time to open.

Something strange is going on here: I have been running Win 7x64 just fine in a network with many network printers and even a plotter. I recently installed a Lexmark c935 (huge A3 color laser) using the Windows Update-driver. When I try to restart after this, the Domain login takes exactly 3600s from entering the password and to the desktop appears. Needless to say, this is a big waste of time. Luckily, I made a restore point just prior to installing the driver, so I have rolled back without issues, but of course I cannot use the Lexmark. I'm running Win7 as a pilot user on the network, and my local tech guy did not find a solution other than using the restore point. Is this driver-dependant logon-issue familiar to anyone on this forum?

When double clicking on the my computer icon the window pops up but then the window DCOM 10010 a 'My event takes makes so Opening or viewer 45 seconds in Computer' and error goes blank and the flashlight starts going back and forth After around seconds or so everything comes up and works fine If I double click on c drive it comes right up I don t have any more problems with going through different files or folders unless I close the window If I double click on my computer again it does the same thing It also creates a DCOM error in the event viewer Opening 'My Computer' takes 45 seconds or so and makes a DCOM 10010 error in event viewer If I go to the start menu and click on search the start menu disappears but nothing else happens I don t know if it is related but if I am saving a file it doesn t auto fill complete the file name if it already exists in the folder It used to do this and would be helpful to have back I have printers attached to my computer One is a color laser and works fine The other is an all-in-one printer scanner fax but I only use it for scanning When I click on scanners amp cameras it also takes about seconds before it comes up with the window which does have any devices listed in it I believe it creates a DCOM error in the event viewer Again it used to scan just fine We currently have it plugged into a different computer and it works on that computer just fine I know some places say to disable Windows Image Acquisition WIA service to fix the my computer problem It didn t seem to change anything when I tried disabling it but I think I need it active if I m going to be using the scanner I have Windows XP Professional with service pack I do not have any system restore points that I can revert to I did use you guys to get rid of a rootkit virus on the same computer about a month ago I started noticing the problems some time after that If you need any other info from me just let me know Thanks

Dear all,
I have installed Window 7 in two partitions (on two SSDs), both using UEFI
The first installation is working properly (bootable, got the 100Mb and 128MB partitions etc.)
After I installed the second partition, I saw the boot menu displaying two entries.
But when I hit to boot on the second partition, nothing happened.

I attached a listing of EasyBCD for your reference.

Can anybody tell me what's wrong and how can I correct it?

TOny

A:Two partition of Win7 install but dual boot can only reach one of them

Does EasyBCD support UEFI ?
Which version ?

You can correct very easy the second non working loader entry using Visual BCD Editor.

Just change the path from
\windows\system32\winload.exe
to
\windows\system32\winload.efi

You can later add recovery to second entry using steps outlined in help for "Dual-boot Repair" utility

S.M.A.R.T. repair startup bad, status this in I'm new on this forum This PC has been a pain in the ass for a few months already S.M.A.R.T. status bad, startup repair loop, can't reach boot menu. and it's only getting worse I think it finally hit the brick right now but I feel that I should still ask for last minute help First of all I'd like to point out that my PC freezes from time to time - stays like that for about a minute or so and then works fine again While it's frozen the red lamp next to the Power button is constantly shining and while it works S.M.A.R.T. status bad, startup repair loop, can't reach boot menu. fine it flickers I'll mention this again later on So the first issue I have is that upon starting up the PC I get this message Quote Pri Master hard disk S M A R T Status BAD Backup and Replace Press F to continue I know S.M.A.R.T. status bad, startup repair loop, can't reach boot menu. that I can still keep using the PC with this error although it is recommended not to However I found this to make me unable to reach the boot menu as my PC freezes with a black screen for about seconds after this screen I repeatedly tried mashing F AND holding it no good Which brings me to my second problem the infamous Startup Repair Loop After the quot Black Screen of Seconds quot I get to choose between the startup repair or starting Windows normally When I choose startup repair it takes about a minute to get it over When it's done the Starting Windows screen looks different - there's a loading bar similar to the one from XP but after it the PC just restarts and it's the whole thing all over again When I start Windows normally the Starting Windows screen is the default Windows startup spinning colors thingy but the PC freezes completely after that Just black screen and that's it I found this tutorial to avoid this problem but I can't get to the boot menu Can someone help Thanks in advance

A:S.M.A.R.T. status bad, startup repair loop, can't reach boot menu.

Pleasure to assist. It's simple. Either you need a new primary hard drive, or you can attempt to fix it with a utility like Spinpoint for arguments sake.

When you began seeing the SMART warning was the time to have done this really.

I have a self built PC running XP MCE.
Freshly reinstalled OS and no AV,spyware programs running.
It take around 5 min to boot up, that is the time taken between Windows XP logo and Welcome screen.
I tried this from other thread..
"One of the reasons for a slow boot is a network card with nothing connected to it, it's looking for a DHCP server until it times out. Try disabling the NIC in Device Manager if you're not using it."

But it helped me only one time, it boots up fast, but again it getting slow at following boots.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Problem seemed to start after I installed and then uninstalled Iolo System Shield 3.The Program just made my hard drive lite stay on constant and i could not do anything.I could not get the program to work and support was no help. I uninstalled and this problem occurs.

When I first start up my computer after the XP screen with the blue moving lights it goes to the screen that says "windows is starting up" It stays on the screen that says windows is starting up for 10 to 15 minutes before my user account screen shows up.Seems to boot ok after that but is real prone to locking up?

I have 2 Dell Latitude Laptops running XP Pro and the BOTH take 10 minutes to boot up. One started booting up slow after being upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro.
The second just started booting slow for no apparent reason. It will periodically boot within 1 minute for a few days and then return to 10 minute boots for 2-3 weeks.
Both have 500meg of memory, 1.6ghz processors and 30 or 40 gig hard drives that are only 30% used.
Both run up to date Norton Antivirus, Zone Alarm Pro, Diskeeper 8.0, Spybot S&D and Adaware.
They also both have two internal hard drives. The second hard drive is used by BounceBack Pro as a mirrored backup drive.
Once they are up and running, they appear to run fine.
Any ideas/suggestions as to what I can do to get these systems to boot much faster?

I just built a new PC and for about a month it ran boot a takes while? Harddrive perfectly fine and all of a sudden when i start it up it takes it about - minutes to get Harddrive boot takes a while? off of the motherboard logo screen and to the Windows logo screen which then the windows logo fades in very slowly before it actually starts loading Another current similar issue is when i pop up my start gt all programs menu and highlight something such as the Startup folder it takes a while for the boxes to fade in then when i click a program on the start menu you can see the box still on the desktop very faintly for a few seconds after the menu disappears I DID have an underpowered power supply in it and i asked a friend and he said that it was an issue if that s even correct caused by it and the first time it happened and i unplugged it and bought a new one with more than enough power for the system and here i am still This is all new and very confusing to me and i hope someone can help me solve this problem If needed i can list all the system spec and products used to build it nbsp

A:Takes too long to boot up

That type of problem (which might be due to any number of things) can be a challenge to track down. And only made worse if you can't even install and run the tools needed to track it down because things are so slow

I'd suggest you try booting into SAFE mode. If the problem still occurs when booting into Safe mode i think your best option at that point is a backup and then a clean reinstall. If it's OK booting into Safe mode, you can try troubleshooting using msconfig

/* edit */
One other option, you might see if you can use your Vista install CD do to a "repair" vs. a full reinstall if that might also help (if you should want to avoid a reinstall). A "repair" would only if help if this might be a Windows issue

Ok so my problem is that my pc takes long to boot up.

It boots up fine until right after the Windows XP logo screen. Right after the xp logo the screen goes black for about 1 minute then the welcome screen shows up and it stays there for about 4-5 mins.

List of things I have done:

Ive scanned the computer for viruses in:
normal mode
safe mode
and ive also done a boot scan.

So there is no viruses.

Ive re installed all system files using my XP cd so it isnt the system files and ive done a system restore so it isnt a software issue.

I've Defragged the pc and used a registry cleaner. I've also disabled all startup in msconfig.

What can be the problem?

My pc specs are:

Intel quad q8200 2.33ghz
4gb ram
Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
500GB SATA
XP Home SP3

This is my dad's computer, which is my old system that was build circa 2006 or 7 or 8 or something. Let's just say, it's old.

E6750 dual core (er, I think that's what's in it), GA-P965 something-a-rather, nvidia 7600, 2GB of RAM.

I've ran MBAM, CCleaner, it has AVG on it, ran some other tests, came back clean. Very few applications installed other than outlook mail and Jasc paint shop pro 7.

It takes every bit of 10 minutes from button press, until the curser finally drops the hourglass. 9-1/2 of those minutes is windows, it flies through BIOS.

HDD is 160GB with 1% fragmentation and 125GB free. CPU idles at 37C and hits 42C when loaded. msconfig-startup list is nearly empty. start->programs->startup is empty.

Is there something I've overlooked?

A:takes 10 minutes to boot

Try going to Command Prompt type in

CHKDSK /R
hit enter then type Y for yes then reboot.

This will attempt to fix any errors on the disk also any file corruption due to bad sectors.

Hi,Welcome here. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. I'm running Windows XP sp2 on my 6 year old Compaq PC. When I switch on the screen freezes as it starts to load Windows then I get small white horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen. It slowly loads from here eventually making the horizontal lines solid, then loads into Windows and all is ok. Sometimes it doesn't even do this and I am left with a black screen, then I have to turn off and try again. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

A:PC Takes 20 Minutes to Boot Up

Hi bobbydur,

What is the model of your Compaq PC? It could be that a hardware failure is imminent such has a hard-drive failure. One thing I recommend is going to the manufacturer's website of your computer HDD and download the "HDD Diagnostics Utility". Put the program onto a CD and boot the computer to the CD. Then test the computer hard-drive for any errors.

You can also try performing a tune-up on your computer and see if that helps alleviate the issue. Use "CCleaner" to clear the temps files, perform a check disk repair on your computer, and also perform a system defrag.

Hope everything works out well for you.

No one is ignored here.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.Upon completing the steps below I will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware. Thanks and again sorry for the delay.Download OTL to your desktop.Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.AndPlease download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run itClick the Scan button to start the scanOn completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

Everytime I start my computer up, it gets where it loads the background, but none of the icons. It takes a minute or two for it to load the icons. It doesnt even sound like its loading anything during that minute.

Any help please?

Alright so after long hours of research I have narrowed down y problem.
Long story short I messed with the permissions of my C:\Windows directory and sure enough it has caused issues. Now my computer when powering on will show a light blue screen with spinning dots for hours before it finally gets to the log on screen.

After a lot of research I am aware that it is a permission issue and want to know what to do ti fix it. Sorry if this is kinda vague, but I am able to provide any additional information and will be very appreciative of any help you guys can offer

A:Boot up takes 2 hours!

I suggest you do a Clean Install. Who knows what else has been messed up besides the permissions issue ?

Use this Tech Bench link to download the ISO file > burn it to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ) > use it to do a Clean Install.
