I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer, inside the battery compartment or on the startup BIOS screen. Please see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for more assistance locating this information. DO NOT include your serial number. You can still create your HP Recovery Media if the HP Recovery Manager software and the HP Recovery partition haven't been corrupted, damaged or modified. You can also attempt to use the HP Recovery Manager within Windows or "F11" at the BIOS boot screen. If the above doesn't work you will need to contact HP Customer Support in your region/country to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Please click the White KUDOS "Thumbs Up" to show your appreciation

Hi. I have had my hp pavillion a6200n for two years now. Shortly after I got it I switched my OS from vista to XP, but now I want to switch back to vista. Will a Vista recovery disc work with XP installed?

A:hp pavillion system recovery

If it's an HP recovery disk for the system it will wipe everything and install Vista as HP would have installed it on the system.

If it's another recovery disk, you may have some more work to do.

A:Recovery Cd's Pavillion 533W

Welcome to TSG
Did you try to order them from HP? I used to have a 533W and had a set of cds but got rid of them a long time ago.
If you tried just once, I would try again, maybe you would get a tech that is more helpful.

Hi there,

I'm having problems starting up my laptop. I hit the power button and it goes straight to Windows Error Recovery. I then hit "Launch up Recovery (recommended). It then just moves to a blue screen and never actually gets to a recovery page or where I can enter login. If I press start windows normally the same thing happens.

Is there a way I can reset to factory without starting laptop?

Thanks for any help.

Jamie.

Ps sorry for any typo's/poor grammar, writing on phone isn't easy.

I ordered and received recovery disks for my HP Pavillion a6200n PC. I got 2 System Recovery disks and 1 Supplemental Recovery Disk. The 2 System Recovery disks worked great. What is the Supplemental Recovery Disk for?

A:HP Pavillion supplemental recovery disk

The Supplemental Disk is for certain models which have more software, or a more complext setup.
If your system didn't ask for the disk, or ask for more software, then you likely do not need it.

Hi. I have a HP Pavillion G7 1083nr with a problem with it's hard drive. Before it was replaced I recived a error message ' No Bootable Device - Insert boot disc and press any key. After I replaced the hard drive as recommeded I recived this error message 'The System Recovery Media Does Not Support This Computer. You are not able to restore this computer with this Media'  How do I fix this ? , Can I fix this ? I purshred the recovery discs per its exact specs. HELP!! The OS was Windows 7 originally, upgraded to Windows 10.

A:G7 Pavillion 1083nr recovery problems

Hi, If the machine has been previously upgraded to 10, a hardware profile ( Digital Entitlement ) will have been recorded by the activation servers. As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from Windows 7, you can just create your own installation media and perform a clean installation of Windows 10 as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-K

I was planning on giving my laptop away to a friend, so I attempted to clean the hard drive. However, my battery died moments after I had started the process. When I plugged in and re-started my laptop it went to a black screen that says "missing operating system...." in the top left hand corner. (That now happens every time it is turned on)It seems that my os was accidentally deleted. Is there any way for me to re-install Windows 7 and get this laptop back up and running? I bought this laptop a few years back and do not have the original recovery discs..I have checked HP's support website, but have not really found anything that helps. I am open to any suggestions or positive feedback.Thank you for your help!

third attempt to post I recently bought a brand new Hewlett Packard computer It prompts you Hewlett Hp full." error Packard "recovery Pavillion drive message dv2500 to back up your files and gives you the option of selecting the backup drive d or writing to dvd I selected writing to the backup "recovery drive full." error message Hewlett Packard Pavillion Hp dv2500 drive The system "recovery drive full." error message Hewlett Packard Pavillion Hp dv2500 tried to backup my files but sent an error message recovery drive full It continues to prompt me to backup my files I solved this problem by going to the HP website clicking on troubleshooting and entering the details of my computer I then found an FAQ somehow The page explained that I had been wrong to select the d drive to back up my files how foolish of me to choose one of two options "recovery drive full." error message Hewlett Packard Pavillion Hp dv2500 offered It said that the D drive was only small I must delete the file already created there and then change the settings to create a backup onto a dvd drive instead You delete the backed up copy of the file by going to start computer HP recovery d where the first folder you will find will be one with the name of your computer eg in my case Anna-PC You then delete this file You then go to start and type backup in the search box Select backup and restore center then change settings then change backup settings then give your permission to continue then select DVD rw drive e which describes itself as on a hard disc cd or dvd I wondered if there had been some sort of design error Why did they give me that option if it was not a good place to save a backup I would have thought there was little point of making a backup on the same pc you are backing up anyway Had they intended people to back things up there but not allowed enough space gb is quite a lot of space after all Many people must have stored less than gb there in blissfull ignorance that it is the wrong place I am rather mystified nbsp

A:"recovery drive full." error message Hewlett Packard Pavillion Hp dv2500

Actually what concerns me more is, I wonder if you have deleted files in your recovery partition.
It's usually hidden from inside Windows, so I expect no. But by chance did you receive a Windows CD or just a recovery partition (because the recovery files may now be gone)

As for the location, think of it this way, it will show all areas that you can backup to. I think even the floppy drive (if you have one) this is to give you the full choice, instead of putting restrictions on your own computer (which most don't like)

That's why.

Trying to help my daughter out, She has a laptop HP Pavillion DV6 that will only boot in the safemode. She called HP and of course she is 60 days out of warranty. Any suggestions? She's try to restore it to a point about a week ago but the same thing keeps happening, just boots in safemode.

Thanks for any and all suggestions,

Sonbon...

Hi sonbon,

Does the computer give out an error when your daughter tries to boot the computer to windows normally? Go to the safe mode menu again and this time, choose "Boot the computer to last known good configurations". See if this helps out at all. I would also recommend performing an In-Place Upgrade(Windows Repair) on the computer. You will definitely need your Windows 7 CD in order to perform this process. When was the last the computer was able to work successfully?

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

See if you can boot it without the battery.

If that doesn't work unplug the battery and power cable.

Then press and hold the power button for 45 seconds.

Replug in the power and battery to see if it will boot.

Hi. I bought this laptop used from someone online. I know it is old. It uses the FS1 socket, and has an A4 processor. So I can't expect too much. But it just locks up on me aall the time. As soon as I try to open anything, it just locks up. The day I got it, I was able to open Google Chrome and watch some Youtube videos. The next day, nothing. I think the HDD is screwed, and I would like to replace it with an SSD. My problem is, it will not detect my SSD. What can I do to get my SSD installed in this thing, so that hopefully I can use it for some basic things on the go?

A:Need Help with HP Pavillion

Solved the problem myself. Opened the tower and changed the port that the SATA drive cable connected to. At least after doing that and restarting the computer I was able to get into BIOS. Showed no hard drive as being recognized. Went to HP's site and found that Seatgate had a problem with some of the hard drives (500, 700, etc.) After calling a technician with HP it was decided that the hard drive had failed (no indication of it failing-it just stopped!!!)

HP is sending a new hard drive and a recovery disk (the recovery partition was on the hard drive that failed. No cost. There was still 50 days left on the warranty.

I guess we were LUCKY!

Thanks for looking at my computer problem.

At first time, the DVD player was working, and the second time when I tried to insert DVD to the player, the player made some sound like Krik Krik, and sipt out the DVD. Eveytime, different DVD used and the DVDs or Audio CDs are working with other Computer DVD players and CD players. My boss just bought it for classroom. But no DVD or CD player, it is not useful. What is the solution for this? My boss bought it one month ago. Maybe less.

Is there any way I can do a wake on lan with this computer I didnt see any settings in the bios to turn it on for the onboard ethernet controller. Can I use a Third party Ethernet card that supports WoL???

Hope you guys can help.

A:HP Pavillion a342n WoL

Well if that is not on the BIOS then your card may not have WOL functionality.

Hi,

was wondering if anyone could help me please, i installed windows 7 onto my laptop a while ago and as i don't use my CD-ROM very much i've only recently realised it no longer works, i've had a look under device management and 'coprocessor' has a yellow triangle by it and ! mark ?

I'm really useless when it comes to technology but was wondering if anyone could help me in finding out how to fix this problem please?

i've tried to update driver software but that does not work, and states windows could not find driver software for your device

and underneath properties it states;

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."

thanks again for any help really appreciate it

Hi LOu33z,welcome to the forums, download and reinstall the chipset drivers Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv9000 CTO Notebook PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English) you may have to install them in compatibility mode for Vista as they are the only drivers supported

finally something to contribute a few years ago i bought one of those after thanks giving walmart laptop specials don t get me wrong its been a good one only paid mobile sempron gig hdd upgraded immediately to gb ram only burns cd s and plays dvds but ill soon fix that along with hdd found i may be able to upgrade CPU a Hp pavillion ze2000 little too maybe someone can confirm that anyway apparently some of these overheat and they recommend Hp pavillion ze2000 a new bios flash sp some how they think that the CPU fan running slows Hp pavillion ze2000 the computer down and somehow makes it overheat i did the flash because they recommended it and told me that it would make it work better after the flash the CPU fan hardly ever came on did it twice to make sure i did it right tech support told me to clean it I m very meticulous about my computers did it anyway as suggested and took a vacuumed cleaner to it which was kinda fun but wondered if i was going to zap it with static electricity from the vacuum it would get so hot that the palm rest would be more than just warm but kinda hot the touch pad would become very erratic but it never shut down on me i got a cool pad just so i could use my computer good investment though i do like it finally installed cpucool so i cold see what temp it was getting up to C with cool pad man searched around and found older bios sp ran the flash eureka it works now still a little warmer than i would like but fan on at approximately - C off at around C under regular load with cool pad much lower temp mid to high s they tried to get me to buy a new fan also works fine I ve only had one laptop but it seems that they run just a little warmer than equal desktop probably air circulation limitations sometimes i think they just go down a list of things that s why i was so happy to find this site experience but if anyone else has one of these its actually a ze wm if you look on the tag they did have one thing that did some good for me sp core speed adjustment download raises clock speed from multiplier x to like almost mhz multiplier x cpuid it fluctuates from one to the other I m thinking it lowers the clock speed to force cooling right anyway hope this helps someone out that is wrestling with tech support i wonder if i can put a fan in it with its own temp sensor can you do that with a laptop hmmmm thanks nbsp

We get stuff dropped off all the time. Some good but mostly junk that seems to expensive for the customers budget to repair.
Well we took in a monitor today that starts up okay but then after
a few minutes it clicks off.I plug unplugged it from the ac adaptor and it comes back on for a few minutes and does the same thing.
Its an almost new flat panel.
I know its a break in circuitry somewhere.I thought it might be within the adapter at first but no the adapters is fine.
Anyone have any experience repairing these? They are
a fairly new product
and cost pretty much.If I can fix it I want to use it for my daughter at home.
Its one of the few things given for free worth not just putting in the parts pile.
Thanks ddc

A:HP Pavillion f1703

But - how do you know that it is a "break in the circuitry", for to actually know that there is info you have not told us?

I would have first assumed a fault in the electronics that is triggering the protective shutdown in the power section, which resets when it is repowered. So you would be fault finding for a component that is prone to an internal breakdown.

Not a trivial task, but one that I would certainly look at for the same reasons as you would. Probably not an economic repair from a commercial aspect though.

A friend of mine phoned me tonight to tell me her old HP Pavillion had begun to struggle to power up over the last few days.

A big fat zero occured when she tried to turn the pc on over the weekend - it did power up after a couple of attempts. Gradually the number of attempts have increased until tonight when any number of button pushing would kick that monkey into life.

She has checked the power cable is fitting tight and the pc has not been removed.

Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble getting my laptop to boot up. When I connect the battery, or plug in the charger the power botton lights up, but doesn't boot up. When I press the power botton I hear a beep, and the light flashes then nothing.

A:HP pavillion not booting up

Hallo BIG_BDR,   Lets see if some simple TS can solve it. Take out our battery and ac adapater.Press down the power buttom 15 sec.Plug only the ac adapter in again and see if you can start it. If that does not work Press and hold down the windows buttom + "B" press the power buttom down in 2sec not more or less. after this 2 sec. release all the buttoms. Hope this solves your problem If not please let me know how many beeps your hear? are they/it short or long? Thanks.

Hello All

Bought a new laptop online, windows 64bit pre installed (home premium) -

HP Pavillion dv6 3141ea, AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N930 Processor, 15.6" HD Screen, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD Rewriter, Dedicated ATI 5470 Graphics, Bluetooth, HDMI, Fingerprint Reader, XD499EA#ABU

- and I booted up, plugged in a memory stick and during the copy got a BSOD! Good start.

Got another the next day, the crash dumps appear different though. There were two red error events in the log at the exact same time as the two crashes, both just said "BugCheck" EventID=1001.

I've attached the requestedBSOD info and the two dumps separately.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks.

This one caused a memoery exception. You Symantec and msn toolbar are to blaim.

I would remove symantec and replace with Microsoft security essentials.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

I would also run a system file check to verify and repair OS files

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.

Hi Frank and welcome

Thes point to pool_corruption (memory) probably caused by your Symantec.
I would remove symantec and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

I would also run a memory test just to be sure.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I ve never done this before and I m a little scared I m going to screw something up I need to completely reformat my old computer Its an HP Pavilion that s Pavillion HP Old Reformat about yrs old It was given to me by a family member who has had different computers since she got this one and has mixed all the CDs together so doesn t know what is what So I do not have original CDs I don t think back then they gave you CDs for XP anyhow It has an extra hard drive a friend put in - that apparently was never installed correctly as when you turn it on you get a message about it not being installed properly But it works From reading stuff online it seems to do a real reformat you must boot from the CD that came with the computer Windows XP Now as I said above I don t have this But what I do have is a Dell Operating System CD that came with my new Dell which also runs Windows XP Will I be able to reformat using only this CD Will everything be okay with it I m think I read that you may need a CD with drivers on it again don t have it Is that going to be a major issue Will the hard drive that my friend installed be okay Last but not least is there anything else I should be aware of Should I not even attempt this

A:Reformat Old HP Pavillion

You could attempt it as it can't hurt, but I would be very surprised if it worked as the Dell CD will be set up to run with Dell hardware.

If after you install Windows it won't boot properly try booting into Safe Mode.

HELP!!

I have what is probably a classic problem, of having a Laptop which
has had the Power Plug line yanked severely.... pulling out the center pin
and destroying the female jack. It would seem that replacing said jack would be a simple task.... IF you could gain access.

How do you open the case up?? I have an HP Pavillion xt178.
I have removed the HD, battery, access panels and all visible screws.
I've lifted the labels in the center of the bottom, looking for hidden screws and found none. Something still has a firm attachment to the center and I can see what looks to be a stand off, located in the center, but have no clue as to where to access it. I've trolled through the HP website, but can not find much more than rec.s to send it in for repair.

How and where does one gain the secret key??

My older laptop has decided that it will only start up with Quickplay. I have to push the quickplay button to get started, the power button has no response. I then click on the windows, the system goes into hibernation and then restarts normally. I have disabled hibernation, but is does not work. I am afraid to disable quickplay, I might not be able to start, any suggestion? I have re installed the entire system with the d: drive partition. Hi .

My initial impression...since they play in one program, it's probably a codecs issue. This may be complicated by the fact that this system has been insert/unused for 4 years and may be lacking various updates for the O/S which have been issued since then.

Since you have SP3 installed...I have to ask what version of WMP is installed...and have you installed any of the other noncritical updates pertaining to XP that might impact DVD play/WMP?

Hi, I am using my HP pav laptop for more than 3 years. I do not have the exact model number in my mind. I will post it after wards. The problem is my laptop was overheating then suddenly it switched off. I closed my laptop and waited for it to cool down. After 3-4 hours I tried to start the laptop again, it switched on and then it went blank. Since, then it did not switch on.Below given is the total info: - 1. The red blinking light on the keyboard works blinks once when I press the power button.2. The LED light beside the charger is working fine.3. I tried doing a hard reset but it did not work. Can you please help me as to what should be done now?

A:HP Pavillion G6 won't start.

[email protected]_val, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g6 Notebook and overheating and shutting down. Here is a link to overheating, as this might be the cause of the shutting down. If the Notebook has dust on the fans it could be overheating.  If that does not help at the end of this document it shows you to do a Hardware Test.  The final thing you should try is to restore the BIOS to factory defaults. F10 at the starting of the Notebook. Hope this helps. Please get back to me how this goes. If you wish to say Thanks for my efforts to help, click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos.  Thanks.

Hello fellow HP customers,For the past few weeks I've started experiencing an issue with my laptop. When I turn it off it seems like it works just fine. But once the blackscreen kicks in it won't actually turn itself off. The on/off button keeps on aswell and I could still hear the fan blowing.(It actually seems like it's sleeping).I've tried changing my on/off button's settings, so that once you click the button it'll shut itself down. But this did not solve the problem.Neither did turning off the 'quick-startup' option.(Option that creates a backup when shutting down your computer, so it'll start up faster when turning it on).Can anyone help me solve this problem? Because now I have to hold the on/off button for about 5 seconds to shut it down manually. This move can't be good.Sincerely,Jorden

A:My HP Pavillion won't shut itself down.

Hi, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hi all,

A:HP Pavillion dv7 very slow to do anything

Hello and welcome bluegirl now have you had a go at clearing the clutter if not try this https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download now when you have Analysed > go to Options > Cookies > save the ones you need for pass worded sites see pic/s

You can also clear the drive of rubbish too - Disk Cleanup - Open and Use

Then try using some of this stuff only you might lose some of the "bling" like transparency - can always get it back but it will make the machine run better
Optimize Windows 7 < just take your time to do this one and if not sure then post back in that thread

Hello I have had the above mentioned computer since Pavillion HP a220n new and I could not be happier with it so happy with it that I purchased a second one that I use at my place of business I am not interested in HP Pavillion a220n purchasing a newer model computer nor upgrading if that would mean changing drastically the characteristics of my machine Unfortunately recently I have been having some issues with one of them I have had to replace the hard drive in one of the units and since doing that I am having a second issue of the monitor freezing up with various colors and lines throughout and the mouse freezing within that frozen screen if that makes any sense I tried swapping out a different monitor that made no difference Contacted someone that I felt was more knowledgeable about what might be happening and this was his response Dead motherboard If it was just the video chip or card if you're fortunate enough to have a dedicated video card then the mouse and keyboard will still work I just fixed one for a lady with that exact same problem Motherboard looks to be the same color so it may even be the same model It was an ASUS Those OEM off the shelf motherboards that come in those OEM off the shelf computer are never really all that great Its sort of like something like an hp honda civic vs a hp Ford mustang Something to that effect OEM vs Aftermarket Those OEM boards are just BARELY enough to get the job done And they'll last for years doing it Sometimes forever But when they do die its typically because they're just inexpensive boards designed to sell to the masses Its another part that generally doesn't die But sometimes every once in awhile one does I have asked him for more specific information about where I should be getting a motherboard and what type would give me a plugnplay experience but have not heard back from him so I am hoping someone here could clue me in Below are some pictures of what my screen looks like after only a short period of time of turning the unit on also a shot of the internals of my computer maybe someone can confirm that I do not indeed have a video card Thank-you

A:HP Pavillion a220n

Looking at the specs for this computer it appears to have on-board graphics, at least as built, but have a look at this image, a modified version of your third one. It should be self-explanatory.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wr1tfrbdvg6rnh/HP%20Pavilliona220N.jpg?dl=0

Basically, unless that expansion card that is plugged at the bottom left of your image is a video card, then you have on-board video and it is all part of the motherboard.

Even if it is on-board graphics, it might be worth your while if you are really attached to these computers (they are really due for a rest and replacement !) it might be possible to source a video card which you could use in one of the unoccupied expansion slots above that card.

Hi @Rswreece,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook and it having startup issues.  Try performing a hard reset. Please note the section of Hard Reset for non-removable batteries. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows.Plug the power adapter directly into a different wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as Accept as Solution, this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for. Thanks.

I have a HP pavillion Notebook (DV9700 with Vista) that is suppose to have a built in camera. However I can not access this camera. Is there someway or something I have to do before trying to access the camera?

FIrst, how do I find the type of touch pad system I have?

A:HP pavillion 360 windows 10

Yesterday I removed the action center window as I don't like it.  After that no light tapping on pad.  Full double click needed to do anything.

I have a HP Pavillion that when I turn it on, all I get is a white screen on the monitor. I tried to boot with the original recovery discs and while the cd drive spins, the light just goes to yellow and nothing happens. I tried to boot up in safe mode with the same results.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!
