How do I register a wifi network name and password ?

Relevancy 100%
Preferred Solution: How do I register a wifi network name and password ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to help someone with a Windows 10 laptop connect to a WiFi network. Unfortunately, I inadvertently entered an extra character in the password for the network, and now, of course, the laptop won't connect to the network.

Unlike Windows 7, I can't get access to the network Properties section, because the computer has never connected to that network, and the right click doesn't work from the task bar icon. It also doesn't work from the Settings/Network & Internet window.

I have tried searching the internet (and this forum) for a solution, but everything I have found so far doesn't work.

Can anyone help?

My laptop is connected my home wifi router. but each day it is prompting password.

A:Prompt wifi password each time i connect to the same network.

Hello,

Two things for you to do:

- Update your Wi-Fi adapter's driver to the latest driver.

- Remove all your wireless network profiles to refresh your wireless connection, here's a Tutorial by Brink. Manually re-add your SSID or wireless network with the correct pass-phrase.

See if the above suggestions worked, if not we'll move on to the next troubleshooting task.

Hi,
This is not a complaint, my wifi is working fine, my question is HOW
I work for a small company in Jordan, a while back I moved to another country, bought a new laptop from there, and I kept in contact with my company as I provided some long distance consultancy. I had teamviewer installed on the office PCs and on
the new laptop and I connected with them a few times.

Now that I have returned to Jordan, I resumed my job at the same company, and when I first walked in, with my new laptop which I got from a different country, it connected automatically with the office's wifi network. and I want to understand how?

did my pc take the wifi credentials when I connected with them through teamviewer? was the wifi password saved to my onedrive in some way? is this the wi-fi sense thing?

many thanks

I left home while downloading a file. When I came back my wireless connections had vanished. I had been running a firewall so that nothing could easily destroy my computer, however, my subscription to my anti-virus software has expired. When I went down to my router I noted that it was turned on. Figuring that nothing was the matter I re-started my computer. Still nothing. Is there a bug that can disable all wireless connections or is this simply a strange knok that my computer is having?

In task manager on Networking tab, it says No Active Network Adapters Found. However my ethernet ports show the orange and green lights on. In the control panel under network connections I see my two connections. Looking at its status, under activity the picture of the monitors and cables is grayed out. One has sent 11 received 0. The other has sent 24 and received 23.

This prob occurred as my brother was torrenting and Bitcomet had a tab that brought up an option to increase half open tcp connection limitation. He changed the mbps from 10 - 20. After boot up it would not detect my network adapters. Under Device manager i can still see that they are enabled however.

A:Computer does not register network adapters

Assuming you are using cable modem/router, reboot them, your connectivity to them got hosed, turn them off a minute each then restart cable modem, then router, if applicable.

I have my laptop at work and have had no trouble connecting the company WiFi (they have Guest WiFi and a WiFi where you need to enter your company provided Username and Password). I have been connecting using my Username and password.
Today I had to change my company login password. Now when I try to connect my laptop I get a "can't connect" message because the password saved in my laptop is no longer valid. But I can't find a place in Win10 to enter my new password.

I remember the first time I logged onto the company WiFi a Windows popup came up asking for my Username and Password (which was saved so I didn't need to enter it again - until now). This time not getting the popup - it just says "can't connect".

A:How/where do I enter WiFi password to join company WiFi?

Thanks for the PM with the solution. For anyone that is curious, I had to go to "Manage my Wireless Adapters" and then click on the company WiFi and click on "Forget". Then when I went back to connect to company WiFi, I got the popup to enter my Username and Password.

Well, I own a D-Link DIR-615 Router, And I forgot my router log-in, AND Wi-Fi Passwords. I went on a trip somewhere, and my computer was reset when I left with it. (Still have PC connected though.) And I just CANNOT reset the thing. I tried default etc etc. But I need to find a way... =\ I still have one Vista computer working with it, But the password comes out to: ***** or dots. (its hidden) Is there a way to show them?

Also, Is there a way to change your MAC adress?

A:Forgot Router log-in password/Wifi password, Cannot be Reset (As in; not going to)

As I think that you already know, the solution is to reset the router to factory defaults. When you reconfigure it tape the pertinent account/password/encryption key information to the bottom of the router.

Some ISPs track the MAC Address of the device connected to the modem. It is perfectly fine and easily done to clone the registered MAC address to the router's WAN to avoid having to call the ISP. There is no other need that I know of to change a MAC Address.

Other than the above advice your thread is subject to our password rule:

The office network all of a sudden stopped access to a few email accounts, although they still had the same @ domain.

Other email accounts still work which is strange. I tested the accounts from home and they work?

All computers run off the same network which doesnt have a server or any external firewall. They all run off

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

Okay, usually when you hover over the networks listed and available from the taskbar icon, you get a nice little window with a few helpful tidbits of info for each listed network when you mouse action hover over the names. It tells you the encryption type, and the SSID, plus a few other details.

Well, on my computer, the information is appearing behind the list to where I can't read it. The network list is overlapping on top of the hover info. Talk about annoying. I searched for various things on google, with no luck. I tried:

Windows 7 network list obscuring hover details, and various other combinations to no avail. Anyone here have a clue what might be breaking this? I'd like the hover details to appear properly so I can read it. In the meantime I've installed the free version of Acrylic Wifi to work around the issue. Thanks.

A:Wifi Network info/details appearing behind Network List on hover.

The problem must be driver based or an add-on program because I don't get any of that. All I get is the name and whether it's connected or not. Check that your adaptor driver is up to date and/or the program you use to display the data is up to date.

Forgot to mention:
Dell adds "bloatware" to their PCs to "improve the user's experience" so I would check Dell Support for your specific model and look for updates.

Is there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.

You can go into IPv4 Properties of this NIC, then you can use the Alternate configuration tab to set up the alternate IP, or use the Advanced tab to add a static IP/gateway/DNS etc. to TCP/IP.

Sorry if this has already been discussed. Couldn't find on a search.

I have a small secured network in my office with a modem/router networking three computers wirelessly. I would like to add another router that would allow clients in the waiting room of my office to have internet access. Could you assist me in a setup or map? I already have a wireless Linksys router available to use as the second router.

Thank You

A:Adding Wifi Network to an Already Secured Network

Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

Code:
modem---router----your.lan.systems
to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

Code:

modem---router----your.lan.systems (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)
|
+---new router (new channel+ssid+no encryption)
set LAN addresses and DHCP for 192.168.10.x

add firewall rule to ALL your existing LAN systems to deny src address range=192.168.10.0 thru 10.255

Hi.

I have a laptop that runs Windows Vista, and every time I want to connect to the Internet, I had it where I would enter the password each time, and I would always uncheck the boxes to save the connection. Today, my sister gets on my laptop and leaves the boxes checked, so now when I connect to my WiFi, I don't have to enter in a password anymore. Personally, I don't like this, and want to revert back to having to enter in the password each time. Is there a way that I can do that in Windows Vista, without having to reset the password itself or fooling with the router? Thanks.

We have wireless internet. On the Windows 7 notebook computer, I entered the SSID (not broadcasted) and the password. Internet works fine on the notebook.

But this is what I would like: I would like that a person using the notebook be prevented from seeing what the password is (by right-clicking on the network icon, then choosing Properties).

How can we do this?

Thank you.

A:Keep wifi password hidden

Hi beautiful and welcome to SF,

I've been skimming thru the settings and come to the conclusion that this could only be done thru group policy or regristry hacking. You basically want the Network security key box to be greyed out for certain account. Someone with knowledge in this area might be able to help.

I'm running Win2k on my Laptop and am using a Trendnet PCMCIA for wireless access. I tend to use at home and work for work purposes, and both networks are pass protected, is there a password manager program to interface with my pcmcia network card to recall those and try them both as opposed to opening the setup every time and changing the existing password and having it reconn?

Try forgetting the WiFi network, then reconnect and reenter the password to see if that helps. To forget the network, click on Start, select Settings, select Network & Internet, click on "Manage WiFi settings", scroll down to "Manage known networks", click on your wireless network and click " Forget".

So, my question is: Do I have to just change the PW on windows 10 (if so, how,) or is there more to it...if so, what do I have to do? Thanks.

The Windows password and your WiFi password are different. To change your WiFi password, you need to login to your router. In most cases, you can access your router by entering 192.168.1.1 in your browser. That should bring up your router interface. You can change the password using the router interface.

After doing a lot of searching and looking at several complicated ways to change the password on my win 8 to access my home WiFi, all I had to do was to right click on the SSID and tell the computer to forget it. This cleared out the old password and it asks for the new one. Turns out that what seemed to be very difficult was too easy.

How can I change password on router? I think that there are others using my wifi connectionPlease help!

A:how can i change password on wifi?

We need to know your router make and model number. However, you can access router settings from your browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome or whatever). It is an IP address and will look something like this 192.168.1.1 (although the figures will probably be different). To get in there you have to type a Username and Password. If these have not been set, then look in your router info for the default settings - often something like "Admin" with a blank password. The password above is for router settings access and is not the one you are seeking. Once you get into the router settings look for "passphrase" or "pass key" (the former being the correct terminology). When you find it you input your current passphrase and then replace it with whatever you require. You will then also have to change that on all devices that use it.If your security is high enough, WPA2 for example, then others shouldn't be accessing it unless they are very well versed in this sort of thing. What evidence do you have which makes you feel this is happening? Sometimes sharing the same channel with your nearest neighbour can slow things down (if that is the issue). Channels 1, 6 and 11 are usually selected to minimise overlaps. Routers by default just select channels automatically but that does not mean that they necessarily chose the best one. There is a lot to be said for manually selecting one where others using it show weak signals. Unfortunately Windows does not provide any indication of what channels are being use and by whom. There a little freebie programs that do this - here is one:http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wirele...It also shows signal strengths on the same page and can be run from a shortcut rather than continuously in the background.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Can you login to the router? If it were me I'd do that and disable WPS and make sure the router is using WPA (or WPA2) encryption. WPS has a security flaw, but admittedly I don't use it because I don't really understand it, have had trouble with it enabled, not all devices support it, and it is not needed.

Just a general question.
When I use a lappy/tablet/mobile phone on wifi, for the first time it asks for a password...fair enough, but when something is hard wired TV, PC, Laptop, surely it isn't the same password or is it? or is their another password for hardwiring, your thoughts as always most appreciated.

A:Hardwiring & Wifi...the same password!!!

No, there's no password required on an Ethernet cable. Just plug your device into the Hub and you're connected. WiFi connections are password protected to prevent passing strangers connecting - something I think you'd notice if they tried that with a cable.

No looking for a fix, just an explanation.
A person came into work (car dealership), and wanted to use our free wifi. They asked me to look at it because our IT guy was out sick. We have various SSID's (some that require passwords and some that don't). Her laptop said it was connected to the network but didn't have internet access. Her laptop was also showing an exclamation mark next to every free wifi SSID. She wanted to send out work emails while she was waiting for her car.

I'm thinking it's a work laptop and her company has it real secure so you can't use free wifi (or at least it wants you to use a password). Any thoughts?

That's what researchers at Symantec Corp. and Indiana University are saying,

Hi jsiete and welcome to Tenforums.

There are a couple things you could do.

First, when you connect to your wifi, if you uncheck the "connect automatically" box, it will not remember the password.

The other option is to use the settings in your router, to control access times for the MAC addresses of the devices. This would be more of an automatic setting, where you could assign access during certain times of the day.

Hope that helps.

Hello
I've just installed Wiondows 10 Insider Preview Build 14279 and I've noticed a problem.
It's unable to save my WiFi password, I need to write it again every time I turn on Windows, even if I check the option "connect automatically".

How can I solve this problem?
It was working well before, with my "regular" Windows 10

A:W10 insider doesn't remember my wifi password

As this is an insider build, it is a Beta version of the software and you have to expect these minor annoyances. You should report this issue to Microsoft using the facilities on the start menu. hopefully it should be solved by the time the next Insider build is released and certainly by the next full release - this type of testing/reporting is the price you pay for getting early access to the next version of Windows 10

I have a wifi network saved on a laptop that I don't know the password too, I don't have admin rights on that device.

I thought I had cracked the solution..

I exported the wifi profile on that laptop using netsh command which gave me an xml file with a coded pass phrase inside it, I put that xml on a usb, copied it to another laptop which has admin rights, imported the profile, it showed up under saved networks, clicked connect and it prompted for the password still grr!

Anyone got any other ideas to do this?

Everytime I close my laptop and it goes into hibernation/sleep? mode, and upon opening it up again, it forgets my wifi password and just keeps saying cant connect.

I then have to forget the network and then re connect again and enter my pass again; it gets annoying.

A:Why does my laptop keep forgetting my WiFi password when waking up

Go to Device Manager and see if there are any updates for your wifi driver.

Hey all I recently changed the SSID 7 wifi change password to in windows Unable and wep key digit - passphrase generated on my router Linksys WAG v Unable to change wifi password in windows 7 Firmware All computers on the network have been updated successfully and are accessing the internet except one It's a new Viao laptop running Windows Ultimate -bit It's been working fine able to access the internet on this router until I changed the SSID and password Now whenever I try to connect it only gives limited access The password has been triple checked Router has been reset multiple times I've disabled re-enabled repaired and even uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card All settings on the laptop have been cross-checked with other computers on the network and it all matches exactly The laptop isn't receiving any packets from the router and the router hasn't assigned an IP address or SSID to the laptop indicating an authentication issue This is supported by network diagnostics asking me to check the wep key which I've obviously done many times On the router side all other computers are having no problems there are no restriction policies set up I've released all clients and re-checked lease times and maximum allowable connections Everything is working for the other computers I'm thinking this is a registry bug as my girlfriend may have entered the Wep key incorrectly the first time but I'm fresh out of ideas and haven't found any similar problem on the forums Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Can't you just log into the router and reset the settings?

If you don't have the password, you can perform a "hard" reset using the reset button on the back of the router, normally you need to hold this button down for up to 30 seconds.

My desktop PC connects wired to my Linksys router, wifey connects wirelessly on her laptop. I believe I need to go into the web site where I configure settings on my router to reset the security settings (change passwords, etc) for the wireless. I think I know how to do this. Here's my question: Once I do this, how do I reset the password on my wife's laptop, so that she can connect to the internet?
Thank you, help is greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: How do I reset laptop wifi password?

the laptop should ask you for the password, when yu try to connect but if it does not

right click on the wireless connection
properties
wireless tab
click on the name of your wireless
properties
and you should see the place to enter a key there - it will be filled with ********

After changing the SSID login password in my router, my laptop can't connect and it doesn't ask me to enter a new password. How can I login?

A:How to log into WiFi after changing SSID login password.

Forget the connection and create a new "profile" for it by connecting to it again after, as if it is a new connection.

Hello all,

I use an ADSL modem for accessing Internet in my home. I think my wifi password is stolen. I wanna change it but I have a computer only in my office and use the Internet in my home by my iPhone. Is there a way to change that password with my iPhone or should I surely use a computer to do that work, please?

A:How to change the Wifi password of an ADSL modem without a computer

I dont think you mean modem; but router rather. Is that right? Because usually modems themselves dont have passwords; but routers do. If its the router you want to change the password for; you should be able to use any device that has web access to access the web configuration page for the router and in there it should have a section where you can change the passphrase/password.

So my boss thinks his no password wifi network for our work group is totally safe. We have lost 2 computers to viruses of late and still I hear from them "are you sure that your not downloading a virus" when I do standard updates like "windows update" and "Secunia" software to update some older of our office computers vulnerable programs. Like my updating is somehow related to the problems.

HERE IS MY REQUEST.

Someone please write a reasonable letter to explain the importance of a password protected wifi network, as I have done my best.

(Side note, today one co-worker told me he was 'very angry' that his computer had been updated with newer versions of Thunderbird and Firefox. I replied that it's not really an option to run older versions safely")

A:Convince my Boss that no password on wifi is a bad Idea... (he is apple guy)

Have you used other arguments besides malware (of which I don't see the relation, unless you're implying someone is connecting to your WiFi network to infect your machines)?

- is your monthly download unlimited? If not, your boss will have to pay extra when your WiFi network is used by third parties to download large files, like movies.
- if a third party uses your WiFi network to commit a (cyber)crime and there is an investigation, you'll need to prove there was a third party, and that it wasn't an staff member who committed the crime.
- the information exchanged between your computers is not encrypted, a third party can eavesdrop.

Hi there,
Recently my laptop broke so I am now currently borrowing a computer from my parents. I have installed a new ASUS PCE-N13 network adapter. My problem is this: The network adapter easily detects my wireless router (full strength) so I click connect and it asks me for my p/w. I type the p/w in and my computer instantly tells me it is wrong. I know full well the p/w is right because I live with 2 other people and they both have laptops which connect no problem.
Any help would be great and much appreciated as to why this is happening!

Our computer has wireless internet connection.

Network type: Access Point
Security Type: No authentication (Open)
Encryption Type: WEP

"Show characters checkbox" is greyed out
(There DEFINITELY is a password.)

How can we show the Wifi password?

A:How can we make Windows7 show our password for our WiFi connection?

I think you can see the password by accessing your Modem/Router via the Default Gateway. The Gateway Address is generally 192.168.1.1.

You shall be asked for username and password at the entrance. This varies depending upon the Modem/Router Manufacture. It is generally "admin and admin" or "admin and password".

Once there you can either see the password right away or checking the Check-box below the Password Text-box on the WiFi Page.

Lastly if the Gateway Address or the Username and Password are different than what I have given then you can easily get the right ones from your Internet Service Provider.

I have Windows 10. For some ungodly reason when I attempt to connect to a secured wifi network such as the one for my university it will not give me an option to type in a password for the network even though it needs one. it just simply says connect. how do I enter a password?

A:Windows has no option to input password for secured wifi

Your WiFi software doesn't actually know that network needs an access key until it tries to connect to it. That's quite logical if you think about it.So you have to click "Connect" first, then it will prompt you to enter the wireless key.message edited by phil22

A:How to change the Wifi password of an ADSL modem without a computer

Hello abbasi ,
You can use your iPhone to log in the router and change the wireless settings, however this isn't usually recommended. If something goes wrong when configuring the wireless settings and you are not able to connect to the router you'll need a device that can be connected via Ethernet cable to restore the access.
If this router is supplied by your ISP you can ask them if they have remote access to it to change the password.
Hope that helps.

For a time I used Windows 8.1 on my laptop, i found my WiFi pass automatic synced. But as I installed Windows 10 Technical Preview, I found that my pass wasn't synced. Is there a way to extract it from the cloud somehow? The point is I have no access to
my router now, and there is no other way. Thanks.

A:How to view WiFi password, stored in the Microsoft cloud?

Hi altproject,
I agree with ZigZag. From the information of the sync settings, there is no option to indicates it would sync the password of WiFi. It only sync the passwords you saved in Windows apps, the ones you used to access other computers on your network and the
HomeGroup and the passwords used to access websites in Internet Explorer.
Thus if you cannot get the router and you don't remember to the password of the wifi, you cannot access the wifi network. And If you are not in the proper distance, you cannot receive the Wifi signal.

I just bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite L75-C7250 w/Win10. I can access the internet on an unsecured network or hot spot, but I cannot log into my wireless router. All of my other devices login properly. I have tried every "fix" from the internet, and it still will not recognize or accept my password. I've updated all drivers, disabled all firewalls and anti-virus software (even deleted the McAfee that came on the machine). I've unplugged/reset the modem and router. Any new ideas out there?

Hi All,

I have Dlink Router DIR-890L. I have set up the security with WPA/WPA2-Personal and saved the changes but the connection stays open and unsecured. All my neighbors are able to connect because it doesn't prompt them for a password. I have upgraded the router to the latest firmware and still the same problem.
Lately I've been using the MAC filter to keep people off my connection but this is impractical when I have guests over. Also disabling broadcasting doesn't allow my phone to reconnect automatically.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance!

hello everyone,

my problem is how to boost the signal of public wifi
which demands user name and password (web authentication ),
like in hotels, or even from Iphone hotspot.

Right now i am using acess point TP-LINK WA801ND,
which in universal REPEATER mood increase signal of private wifi,
but failed to do so when needed web authentication.
To be more exact, the connection is made but the page with user name and password never comes.
my question so would be : is there a way to overcome this problem using this device,
or is there any other device like maybe strong antenna which will make the work for me ??

thank you in advance
