Multiple programs are stopping to work, also, I don't appear to have had or ever have a virus.

Q: Multiple programs are stopping to work, also, I don't appear to have had or ever have a virus.

So, I recently bought an Asus UX31a running windows 8(in may) and it was working perfectly until a couple months ago. The only browser that works is internet explorer, which is disgusting (I miss Google Chrome) and several programs such as Adobe reader, Google drive, steam and visual studio either lag for about 5 mins each whenever I want to use them (or click something in them), or I have to close them with the task manager because they aren't responding...(This includes when I want to open pdf documents in internet explorer.

I've run several virus checks with ESET smart security which hasn't ever found any viruses...

It would be a great help if anybody could help me find what the problem is.

Preferred Solution: Multiple programs are stopping to work, also, I don't appear to have had or ever have a virus.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Multiple programs are stopping to work, also, I don't appear to have had or ever have a virus.

Try using a new Windows Restore point. This may not work because of "it was working perfectly until a couple months ago"... It is most likely caused from a stubborn malware infection other than a virus

I have some kind of virus that shuts down windows catalyst control center, and then after that more programs either can run or stop running.  I've ran Windows Defender, Malewarebytes, and at my last step of doing a system restore as this just happened 2 weeks ago or so and i just did that.

Hi I read over the read me before posting and Ive done what I could. My infection prevents me from running one of the programs you have suggested, one is not for my 64 bit, and the last one I cant save the log so I have nothing to report Im sorry. I cant run almost any exe files. Only 64 bit programs work. After a bit of research and help I believe this to be a virus that gives of false negatives on all 32 bit apps. I always get a window that says my apps wont open correctly. Error code 0xc000007b. I cannt run sfc /scannow it stops at 10%. I also lack a restore point something I am going to get as soon as this is resolved. Finally, I really dont want to do a factory reset if possible. I appreciate your time please can you get back to me when you can.

Welcome

Lets give it a try. You will need a USB Flash drive.

For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
Click on Repair your computer menu item.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
Select your user account and click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt
Select Command Prompt
In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

virus/firewall stopping my programs

I believe there may be either some firewall - or maybe a virus affecting my computer.

When I try to send an attachment via Gmail, I get an error saying "Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall."

I disabled my Windows 7 firewall, but that didn't help so I have no idea what the problem could be. I am using KS AntiVirus and it hasn't picked up any viruses.

Your help would be much appreciated! I am using Windows7 home addition 64 bit OS.

Thanks in Advance

I beleive there may be either some firewall - or maybe a virus affecting my computer.

When I try to send an attachment via Gmail, I get an error saying "Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall."

I had a skype conference scheduled for a few days ago, but I was unable to add any new contacts because when I tried, I would get a "Please check internet connection" error - even though I was connected.

I am unable to log into Windows Live Messenger. I get this error: "Signing into Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable."

I disabled my Windows 7 firewall, but that didn't help so I have no idea what the problem could be. I use AVG anti-virus 2011 and it hasn't picked up any viruses.

Your help would be much appreciated!

A:virus/firewall stopping my programs

AVG Anti-Virus 2011 or any other anti-virus program will not find and remove 100% of all the "nasties" that can infest a computer. And malware and spyware and other "nasties" can be more of a problem than viruses.

Download and save the free version of

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100

SUPERAntiSpyware 4.49.0.1000

then close all open windows first, then install them both, then restart the computer.

Follow these instructions next, carefully and completely, and don't use your computer during that time.

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Click "Updates(tab) - Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "OK".

Click "Scanner(tab) - Perform quick scan - Scan".

If infections are found during the scan, the number of infections will be highlighted in red.

When the scan is finished, click "Show Results".

Make sure that everything is selected, then click "Remove Selected".

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click "Yes".

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again.

Click "Logs"(tab).

Highlight the scan log entry, then click "Open".

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy-and-paste it here.

Start SUPERAntiSpyware.

Click "Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "Close".

Click "Scan your Computer - Perform Quick Scan - Next".

If infections or problems are found during the scan, a list will appear.

When the scan is finished and the scan summary window appears, click "OK".

Make sure that everything in the list is selected, then click "Next".

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click "Yes".

Start SUPERAntiSpyware again.

Click "Preferences - Statistics/Logs"(tab).

Highlight the scan log entry, then click "View Log".

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy-and-paste it here.

To anyone who can help,

I'm having difficulty helping someone remove a virus or viruses that are primarily stopping all antivirus and locally installed scan tools programs from running.

I've tried running the Farbar FRST.exe tool as recommended for providing log information but keep getting an "Application Error". I've tried running in safe mode with the same result.

I've run online web based scan tools these were Eset and Panda which did remove threats but didn't remove the primary virus stopping all antivirus programs from running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony.

My satellite pro C850 1HE keyboard intermittently stops working properly and starts opening programs e.g pressing F will open file search, C opens computer that sort of thing

is there a permanent fix to this problem?

its not anything to do with programs installed nor is it anything to do with browser settings.
restarting the computer works for a short time but is time consuming this is really annoying as i use this for work and study!

A:Satellite Pro C850 keyboard wont work properly and opens multiple programs

> is there a permanent fix to this problem?

The question is what causes this problem? Is it hardware related or software related issue?

Why you don?t connect an external USB keyboard just to check if the same would happen?

In case the USB keyboard would work fine, I would assume that the internal keyboard malfunctions? and the solution would be an simple replacement of faulty part.

You should only use one anti virus program, I would dump the symantec to be honest, it's a bit of a system hog.I have used Avast for a long time and have had no cause for complaint at all. There is a tutorial here at Bleeping Computer if you would like to take a look. How to Install, Configure, and Use Avast Antivirus.

If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you are unable to create a log because your computer cannot start up successfully please provide detailed information about the Windows version you are using: What we in particular need to know is version, edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system. [/b]If you are unsure about any of these caracteristics, just let us know and we'll help you figuring it out. Please also tell us if you have your Windows CD/DVD handy. Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far. Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. I am unaware of how this happened, but my computer is now missing most of its programs. Internet Explorer will not open, my anti-virus program is not allowed to update, and when I try and run new programs an "Open With" box appears and asks me to find a program in which to open the requested new program. This also happens when I try and run any of my few remaining programs. Also, in the control panel, I am not able to open the "add/remove programs because it says the application cannot be found. I am able to get online through a Comcast Email icon I have on my desktop. I had to deal with a flurry of pop-ups advertising anti-virus programs which took forever to get past. Is there a way I can start to remedy this issue? Thank you

A:Programs Stopping

Welcome to Bleeping Computer okamifujutsu,Why don't you try this free online scan (it'll scan your registry among other things): http://safety.live.com/Have you tried a repair install of Windows XP? Here's a link on how to do it: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmAlso, sometimes these problems are caused by hardware errors. I'd suggest that you check the SMART status of your hard drive (should be an option for this when the system first boots - before getting into Windows) and checking your memory using this free tool: http://www.memtest86.com/

Hello Recently as of last wednesday my computer was infected by the quot Pro XP Antivirus quot virus or av exe As I had no antivirus software that was functional at that time I quickly managed to download a day trial version of Norton Antivirus and get it running before the virus did too much damage and Norton seems to have successfully resolved and removed the threat off my system It also removed different Trojans which had been present since December some adware and some spyware off the system My fault for never renewing my Antivirus subscription and being without an antivirus program for about - years Haha Now that my computer seems to be secure I find I am unable to open any work. After not removing Programs Virus, seemingly do of my programs except IE instead getting either an After seemingly removing Virus, Programs do not work. quot Application not Found quot error or a quot run with quot window The programs however are still intact because I am able to start for example Microsoft Word by selecting a word document and running it with Word and a few other programs in this same fashion I'm quite at a loss at what do do from here and would appreciate some help I see other After seemingly removing Virus, Programs do not work. people have had this problem on these forums as well but reading their topics just seems to leave me more confused

A:After seemingly removing Virus, Programs do not work.

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

In your case, renaming some exe files to a .com extension should bypass the current issues.

You'll need to be sure file extensions are viewable.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

Right click on the file, select rename, and change extension to .com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do this:

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here This is already a .com file

Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file (or the renamed .com file)
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please include the following logs in your thread:Contents of the DDS.txt posted as text in your reply
Attach the Attach.txt and the ark.txt to your post by clicking the Manage Attachments button under Additonal Options>Attach Files on the composition page. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Upload.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you.

Anytime I try to run a program (i.e. itunes) it will say "this file does not ave a program associated with it for performing this action." Then I try to do that and it does not work. I ran Avira and Mcfee scans and they both found a few viruses and I deleted them; however, I am still having the problems. In addition, it will freeze up, ctrl alt delete, does not bring it out of its freeze.

Here is my hijackthis log.

Hello all,

I am having a continuous but not all the time problem, where I will double click on the Internet Explorer Icon on my desktop and an internet explorer will pop up, then another, then another and it goes on and on, like the solitary computer game. The pages just keep popping up within 3 seconds of each other, and whatever I do I can't stop them once they start. Does anyone have any idea what the problem would be with this?

Thanks,
Jen

A:Internet Explorer popping up multiple times - not stopping

Is it possible you have spyware? When the windows open, do they load a strange page?

Scan with Ad Aware and see if it finds anything.

Hi, I need help getting a couple of programs that run automaticlly when I start up my system. I'm not even sure where these programs came from. I am running Windows XP. Wrenie

A:Need Help Stopping Programs That Run When I Start My Computer

There are various programs with features that help you do this, but not knowing what you have on your computer I can't point you to one. So I'll suggest that you download Autoruns.

It is very (far too) comprehensive when it shows you everything, most of which is irrelevent. So go to the logon tab for a better view of what programs are starting. You can do without most startup programs, many are plain unwanted. However there are some programs (such as your antivirus) which you really do need to be there. If you're unsure feel free to ask.

Hi i've got windows XP and want to stop some things running when I boot windows. I've tried running MSCONFIG and un-ticking programs in the startup tab. Next time I boot the same programs still load. When I looked in MSCONFIG again the programs were un-ticked, but if I scroll down they have all appeared again ticked. Can anyone help me cause I've got some pretty pointless things starting that slow my PC down? Thanks

I have windows XP on my computer. I've loaded a lot of programs on my computer that either have a quick launch icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen or open when windows is started. It seems to bog my computer down. How can I fix this problem?

A:Stopping Programs From Starting With Windows

The easy way would be Start>Run>msconfig>Startup and simply uncheck the programs you don't to start when windows starts.

Where does one go to stop programs from loading at startup. Will this also stop the icons appearing in the taskbar alongside the clock? Thanking you in advance.

A:stopping programs loading at start up

I don't use Start> Run> msconfig> Enter> Startup tab

Right click on the icons in the system tray
(or double left click to open)and try to access the
"settings", "preferences" or "options" of each of the applications that you don't want to start when the computer boots up. There should be an option labeled "Start upon Windows Startup".
Make sure that option is unchecked,
If there is no option, download and install
CodeStuff Starter - manage your startup programs
http://www.webattack.com/get/starter.html
Launch the program and uncheck any program that you don't want to load/run at startup.
If you later change your mind, replace the checkmark.

Identify and disable start-up programs from running.

How do I prevent programs from loading into memory upon startup (appearing in the system tray...lower right hand corner of screen)?

I am using XP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the replies.

A:Stopping Programs from Loading on Startup

Most can be disabled by going to Start>Run, typing 'msconfig' [Enter], choose the Startup tab and deselecting them. Some, however, will require you disable it from within the program (like realplayer, etc).

So I am working on this computer that had about 83 different infections from Trojans to spyware and major adware. I have run Smitfraudfix.exe, cc cleaner, PC tools free antivirus (only one I could install) Trend Micro house call, Spybot. It wont let me install any other anti virus programs\ programs (after uninstalling PC tools) AVG, Nod 32, AVG rootkit, HiJackthis and a few others. The second problem, even with Firefox a fresh install I can surf for say "drums" in yahoo or google. Then I try anti virus and IE and firefox just disappear! Everthing I can install says it is clean But I know there is something still there, ANY IDEAS?

Hi, let's try to run MBAM.Some types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..***Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys.***Next run ATF:Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".Follow with MBAM:Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.32) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2If you have a previous version of MBAM, remove it via Add/Remove Programs and download a fresh copy.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer)... Read more

Hi

I am a big fan of user account controls in Vista and Win7.

I would like to know how I can stop any and all newly installed programs from being able to change or affect my default programs.

I build and maintain computers and once I have installed and set up a new system I don't want any program to change my default programs. Not even win media player or Internet explorer if they update themselves.

Does that make sense.

I use GOM as the default media player and firefox as the default browser. But sometimes if there is a system update for media player, internet explorer or even iTunes and quicktime these programs sometimes after the update change my default programs.
Once I have finalized my install and set up my preferences how can I lock down the default programs permanently?

Any help is apreciated.

Hi all,

I got my wife a Dell XPS M1330 recently and it's running on Vista Business. Only problem is that it can be outrageously slow sometimes and outrageously fast at other times.

Can anybody recommend a website that displays a list of startup programs that can be switched off as it seems to be the main problem.

Also' I'd like to find out how I can do the following:

"open an Administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt and selecting Run as Administrator. Run these commands, which will restart the desktop window manager service.

God bless,

Phil.

I have HP Pavilion DM1 4003AU notebook. Since last 2-3 weeks the notebook gets excessive heat and due to this reason or any other reason the keyboard and touchpad stops working. When I plug the USB mouse then the mouse works. Another problem is the bluetooth hardware is not found while installing the bluetooth driver.
Due to above reason I changed the operating system two times and install all the HP recommended drivers and softwares but still the problem is same.
So please tell me the suitable way to resolve these problems as soon as possible.

Thank You

Over the past few weeks my PC has had several issues:

1) Mouse pointer freezing or disappearing followed by a beep sound following which the PC locks up
2) Nvidia screen crashing and auto recovering repeatedly
3) One instance of numerous random programs self starting all at the same time - several dozen separate executables all auto initiated
4) A couple of weeks ago there were also a number of instances of BSOD (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)

To date anti virus is showing no issues (Malwarebytes and Avast). I also tried to run windows defender and the following message came up: "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this programs's service to stop ..."

i disabled my antivirus before running this set of error reports as a precaution.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:BSOD errors. multiple times during multiple programs

Have you recently added any RAM or new hardware to this system?

Uninstall Any Daemon Tools that you have installed. Those are a common reason for BSODs

try these:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

After:
Disk Check

Post back results please.

I m having difficulty figuring multiple work, malware, antivirus/antimalware popups, won't... doesn't tools work, persistent don't iexplore internet out this persistent malware I think it s likely that there are multiple issues I m running Windows Vista The malware started off with quot google redirect quot symptoms and disabling my Symantec software Shortly following I could no longer access the web persistent malware, antivirus/antimalware tools don't work, internet doesn't work, multiple iexplore popups, won't... However the malware persistent malware, antivirus/antimalware tools don't work, internet doesn't work, multiple iexplore popups, won't... itself would create an internet explorer popup every - minutes not my default browser that would go to quot search sites quot none that I recognized and search for lewd topics Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore exe running on my machine one for each popup The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager Trying to run a system restore I discovered all restore points had been deleted I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem However upon restart all issues were back and I could no longer run avg Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine At this point I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month Upon turning it on last night each time I logged on it gave me a warning that quot Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute quot and would restart I tried running cmd in that one minute to intercept it but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer would freeze if I tried to run it from there I also discovered my Guest account is not working I restarted in Safe Mode and ran msconfig and disabled all non-Microsoft services Upon restarting my computer I found I could successfully log on although Guest account is still not working At this point I figured I ought to post a highjackthis log to a forum My computer would not let me install using HJTinstall exe so I renamed it to HJTinstall scr After installation highjackthis ran for about second and closed abruptly My machine will not run highjackthis nor will it let me rename it If I try to run it it says that it cannot access the file device or path and perhaps I don t have permission and if I try to rename it it says that I need permission to do so and asks if I d like to try again Right clicking does absolutely nothing This is all the same in safe mode although right clicking in safe mode will at least bring up the options I m out of ideas Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:I think I have a virus that is stopping downloads

Hello blitzinkc I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.Gringo

Hello try to run MBAM.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Please download RootRepeal Rootkit Detector and save it to your Desktop. * Close all programs and temporarily disable your anti-virus, Firewall and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. * Click this link to see a list of such programs and how to disable them. * Create a new folder on your hard drive called RootRepeal (C:\RootRepeal) and extract (unzip) RootRepeal.zip. (click here if you're not sure how to do this. Vista users refer to this link.) * Open the folder and double-click on RootRepeal.exe to launch it. If using Vista, right-click and Run as Administrator... * Click on the Files tab, then click the Scan button. * In the Select Drives, dialog Please select drives to scan: select all drives showing, then click OK. * When the scan has completed, a list of files will be generated in the RootRepeal window. * Click on the Save Report button and save it as rootrepeal.txt to your desktop or the same location where you ran the tool from. * Open rootrepeal.txt in Notepad and copy/paste its contents in your next reply. * Exit RootRepeal and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.Note: If RootRepeal cannot complete a scan and results in a crash report, try repeating the scan in "Safe Mode".

Just a little info for you, I don't care what kinda virus protection someone has, if one browses the porn sites or the warez sites you WILL get infected, I'm not saying this is the case with you at all! Please don't take it the wrong way, I did a little experiment to see how effective my Norton/Zonealarm was & surfed the porn sites/ warez sites & was infected almost immediately. Also did an experiment on just surfing the internet without a firewall/virus protection & was infected without going to porn/warez sites, I am a believer in having a firewall/virus protection BEFORE going on the Internet. I did a new install to correct my system. I don't want a system I'm using that has been infected & think it was removed, If anyone's system has been infected I "My Opinion" would tell them to do a fresh install of the OS, not everyone feels that way, kinda like getting cancer, doing radiation treatment & hoping it's gone.

A:Virus stopping access on all browsers

Some things to try first:

1. Reset browser to default
2. Try a different browser
3. Any software sneakily installed (Control Panel/Programs...)
4. Check your HOSTS file (C/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc) is clean. Ideally no entries without the # start to the line.

PC keeps restarting giving varity of reason (windows error messages) for doing so. My virus scan avast picked up nothing ans was seeminly working fine. But can't get through virus scan with avast or panda without PC shutting down mind scan.

Panda got 26% complete indicating 66 infections. Ran in safe mode also shut down during scan. Any other way (or scan) to find and eliminate issues other than reformatting?

Thanks

Friend's computer started up with a Critical Warning image and telling him to download this antispyware thing in order to remove it. Some files that I found connected with this are: FNTCACHE, critical_warning.html, AVR09, winhelper.dll, and 41. I tried running DDS but to no success. Same with Rootkit Repealer. I managed to install and run Hitman Pro 3.5 and Malwares Bytes Antimalware, but both were stopped after a few seconds within scanning. Afterwards, they didn't work at all. Couldn't install Superantispyware or CCleaner. Spybot Search and Destroy was changed to read only and Ad-Aware wouldn't work. Any suggestions? Is there any program out there that manages to get rid of this?

I am helping a friend with an infected computer. I realized the severity when it won't even allow HJT program to scan. I can't run Malwarebytes, do any online scan (keep getting redirected from sites. I am at a loss as to what tools/steps to use. Even in safemode, nothing will run that could help.
thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I have McAfee Virus scan and it keeps stopping on the same file. The file is c:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\triedit.dll

Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?

Please help

A:Problem stopping virus scan from working

I would go there and check that the file in question at
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
is File version 6.1.0.9227 from microsoft.
If so , just add that file to the excluded from scans in mcafee or exempt the whole folder for now.

Most likely there is a problem with one of mcafees signature files which will be fixed in the next update.

A:could my virus protection be stopping me from connecting to internet

With computers anything is possible, but I'm doubting McAfee is keeping you from accessing the internet unless you are using multiple firewalls or antivirus programs. But the easiest way to find out is to remove McAfee and then see if it will connect. You didn't say if you were trying to connect with dialup or broadband.

A:hiding, redirecting, program stopping virus,

I do have a copy of HJT and have made a log file. Had to rename it winlogon.exe to make it run could really use some help. Please read the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next. In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create a Pseudo HJT Report as part of its log. There will also be instructions to create a Root Repeal LogWhen you have done that, post your log in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.The HJT team is very busy and it will take awhile to get to your postPlease be patient and good luck

A:Anti virus stopping Blue Rays from playing?

Personally I don't have much time for Norton....it is OK for large companies I guess.......there are plenty of free ones that are much lighter, just look below at my Sig with links........if you do uninstall Norton do a search for the Norton Removal Tool and run it atleast twice after removing Norton from Add/Remove Programs.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please refer to Microsoft's Online Safety article for tips on creating a strong password.

Do not change passwords or do any transactions from the infected computer until it has been cleaned.

------------------------------------------------------

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

------------------------------------------------------

Due to the restrictions on Windows 7, all tools should be started by right-click > Run as Administrator

------------------------------------------------------

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all antivirus and antimalware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Get help here

Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Please re-enable your antivirus before posting the ComboFix.txt log.

I've got my laptop infected with windows safe mode.

I originally tried using AVG but it stopped it from opening, no program was working so I tried using safe mode. This also got messed up and doesn't work properly.

The malware puts up a black screen similar to the windows safe mode background. It says some nonsense and decides to start a scan. I can't open task manager or any other tool, the infection covers the whole screen stopping me from using run or anything else.

I don't know what to do now, safe mode is somehow infected so in normal mode. I've looked around but no one seems to have this problem.

Thanks

A:Redirect malware that is stopping anti virus stuff too

Update: Assistance is no longer needed. Things were getting so bad, and the computer had had windows on it for 5 years, I figured a full wipe and update would be helpful anyhow. So issues are gone, drive reformatted. Thanks to those who read.

Hi I recently tried to install some software that i d downloaded from a dubious source and it was soon apparent there were nasties hiding in it ready to attack my machine I know this because Mcaffee Total Protection told me as much when i ran the exe I assumed Problems stopping Process virus after with Host working that McAffee had done it s job To make matters worse i did this a further two times with similarly dubious software with the same result duh Soon after links in google results under internet explorer have been re-directing me to dodgy looking sites rather than the Problems with Host Process stopping working after virus one it was pointing and this alerted me that something wasn t quite right Another syptom was mcaffee telling me a couple of processes were trying to make changes or communicate over the internet can t remember exactly To rectify this i renamed them as i was denied the ability to delete them Another strange occurunce that i noticed was that under the start menu there was an application highlighted as if it had just been installed Strange thing was that it was Remote desktop Connection under Accessories I checked Add remove programs or whatever it s called now and there was no indication that this had just been installed At this point i figured i needed to take action As an initial step i ran a virus scan which found nothing then attempted to run system recovery only to find that it had been disabled not by me and i was unable to start it going again After a lot of forced reboots holding in power button and safe mode startups i was able to re-enable the system recovery and revert to a point before i installed the software I then following the advice of a trusted geek downloaded and ran Malware antimalware This found files and deleted them mainly from the windows temp directory I had a quick look on forums and followed a post on tech guys or bleeping computer which related to google being hijacked I downloaded an exe on one of them called otm exe guy was called old timer or something like that who posted the exe a scrip to paste into it so i followed the instructions and ran it and the system hung I have to admit i don t exactly know at what point i did this Since this point in time i am still getting re-directed google links and the longer i use the computer the less functional it becomes For instance the Host Process has stopped working message pops up a few times and i lose network access from other machines windows explorer stops working the aero theme disappears and windows styling returns if i reboot it hangs with a black screen and pointer but then if i force a reboot and choose a normal boot it boots up ok only to go through the same symptoms again I ve checked windows error logs to see if i can spot anything but i can t see anything occuring I m running Windows Vista Home Premium - Service Pack I was tempted to move all my files to a portable hard drive and reinstall vista but theres a serious amount of stuff and i m assuming i ll just get a host process message and explorer stopping In true cavalier fashion i have no backups I think i need help BobbyGNo

Hi angel305510!My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me Agent ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I'll be addressing you by your username, if you'd like me to address you by something else, please let me know!I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)

Because of this, you must reply within 3 days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed! I like chocolate chip cookies.Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system or even taking your computer into a repair shop.

Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data and have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________It appears you're infected with an infection known as ZeroAccess.ZeroAccess (Max++) Rootkit (aka: Sirefef) is a sophisticated rootkit that uses advanced technology to hide its presence in a system and can infect both x86 and x64 platforms.
