Hi, We are having an issue with our X1 Carbon's(20FB). The audio output via an HDMI cable works, we see the Epson speakers in the playback devices. After the user is logged on for a while, the speakers will no longer showup in the playback devices and the auidio will just come through the laptops speakers. After we restart the computer, the audio will again work and play to the speakers. Windows 7 X64 Any help or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Johnhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-20FB-Audio-Issue/td-p/3464159
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi, i just bought X1 Carbon (20FB series) running on windows 10. there's a sim card slot, but when i insert the simcard it keep poping out from the port the question is, is this laptop really support sim card? and how do i know if it work when i can properly insert it?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/x1-carbon-20FB-sim-card/td-p/3482102
I recently got a X1 carbon 4th gen (20FB), and I have been super happy with its performance. However, it seems like whenever I have the laptop closed, the keyboard is leaving a mark on the screen. I sent it to repair, and they changed the screen, but that didn't seem to fix it. I noticed that the body and the lid are not perfectly aligned - one of the corners of the lid seems to be jutting out a little bit with respect to the rest of the body. I've attached picture to show this. I'm not sure if this is a part of the general design of the Carbon. Can anyone with a X1 carbon 4th gen confirm that this alignment feature is not present in their machine? Thank you ?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-carbon-4th-gen-20FB-lid-and-body-alignment/td-p/3441108

Hello all, We've got the same problem here with our x1 Carbon 4th gen (20FB). Lucky, we just purchased 2 but not 2 dozen. Both of them have the same problem which same as Swhitcher. We've called the Lenovo support hotline and ask for the onsite support. The on-site engineer replaced the mother board for us, but after 1 hour, problem occur again. We're going to deploy those computers to the end user very soon.So please, give us the solution as soon as you can, Lenovo! Many Thanks! Hi, I've got an X1 Carbon 20FB (4th gen), and noticed it doesn't have Lenovo System Update on it, which I've found useful in the past. So I went to the Lenovo downloads site and found System Update, but it doesn't list the 20FB as one of the X1 Carbons it supports - it only goes up to 20BS, 20BT: http://support.lenovo.com/se/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-... (See the "Note for ThinkPad X1 Carbon users") Should I avoid downloading System Update then? I've not noticed anything that's not functioning, but I figured it makes sense to keep things up to date from a security and features point of view. Why is it not included by default? Thanks for any advice!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/System-Update-on-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3427436
Hi, does anyone know if there is a list of compatible embedded LTE chips that will work on a X1 Carbon 20FB? The reason why I ask this is bec the current model, EM7455, only operates at some frequencies that some abroad contries do not support and the older models such as the EM7355 support those frequencies. One being GSM. I tired to install a EM7355 into my 20FB laptop but the bios isn't allowing it. Thanks!
EM7455 is versatile enough and supports a lot of 4G/LTE including LTE-A and 3G bands worldwide. It does not support 2G (GPRS/EDGE) access technology.

Hi, trying to get a Windows 7 Install done on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB w/ Samsung950 Pro. Bios 1.14 (latest as of May 2016)Special issue is, I need to get it done in a Legacy mode (BIOS,MFT style). I was able to install Win7 based on a win7 image that got the 950pro drivers and the USB3 drivers infused through NTLITE, and then I build an image with Rufus 2.9 (both UEFI/GPT and UEFI/MFT) worked, with the X1 BIOS was set up to UEFI only with CSM.BUT I need to to run on the BIOS setting 'Legacy' and in MFT style, b'cause the special Win7 installer I need to use does not support anything else. I know, sounds weird, but..... . I'm setting up a new X1 Carbon with machine type 20FB. It came with a Samsung MZNTY256HDHP SSD. I noted there was a recent SSD firmware update package for this laptop model, so I downloaded and ran the updater. It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Missing-SSD-firmware-update-for-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3485035

Hi all, I have have new X1 Carbon and really like it. However I am getting regular BSOD failures once or twice per week. I am running Win7 Enterprise SP1 and have all the lastest Lenovo urgent updates installed and most of the recommended and optional updates installed too. The BSOD have been of the following types:KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e) on June 28thMEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) on June 30thBAD_POOL_CALLER (c2) on July 6thMEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) on July 7thDRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL (c5) on July 21st At first I thought it was faulty RAM so I ran MemTest (http://hcidesign.com/memtest) for over night for two nights in a row and no issues were detected. Has anyone encouneted this issue and know how to fix it? Any recommnedations from Lenovo? If required I can attached detailed log dmps. Thanks,Ian
Look in the event log to see if a driver is throwing an error before the BSODshttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Frequent-BSOD-with-2016-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3377470
Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (188.8.131.52).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Actually on a fresh install of Windows 10 64bit (Anniversary update).https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-2016-20FB-Ultranav-unresponsive-for-30sec-1Min-after/td-p/3386336
Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment). According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write. The machine has all the latest updates from Lenovo (incl BIOS) and all the drivers for Windows 10. Anyone else tested their drives? Found a Dell XPS owner with the same drive that complained about the same issue. Turning off windows write cache buffer flushing does help, but that is not a good answer.

Hello! I have made many driver pachages and image loads of lenovo pc, but i cant figure this one out. I think I have spent 4 hours of researching and I have realised I need to put down my pride. I need help. Using:Sccm 2007.WinPe 3.1 I'm using the Onelink+ pro usb to RJ45 adapter to get ethernet. It says it supports PXE. We use winpe 3.1 and want to deploy Win7.I have added all the drivers from Lenovo sccm pachage. I have turned "only legacy" in the bios. I have added the USB3 Exstension driver to both the image and WinPE. I get to download the Winpe and start it up. It have an IP and shows activity untill it start Winpe and check connectivity. Hi, I updated my X1 Carbon 4th gen to 1.17 BIOS, and since then, opening the lid won't wake the computer from hibernation, except when plugged.Bios changelog states Disabled the power button when the computer is in battery mode and the
computer lid is closedbut when I read "power button", I don't think "this is gonna break the behavior of the lid". And of course, no rollback is possible from 1.17, so I'm stuck with a computer wich won't wake from hibernation correctly. I just can advise you all to not upgrade bios, and see what's inside the next version...
Hi, the power options sets that the display should turn off in X minutes. But it doesn't do it at all. Instead, the computer is locked and the display dimms. I have verified that the audio jack becomes nonfunctional if the system sleeps and then wakes up again. Once the system comes out of a sleep state, the audio jack no longer detects the cable. To fix it, I have to restart the system. This is stupid. Surely there's a fix?
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
Did you verify the Audio driver version is correct from Lenovo support site?
If the current Audio driver version is not matching with our support site then it is incorrect version and needs to uninstall and then download the driver from support site.
Hope this helps.

Good day, I just purchased a used x1 (System Model 20A7A00TAU) carbon yesterday and the headphone jack doesn?t seem to be working. I have searched forums far and wide and have taken the following steps:1. Uninstall and reinstall drivers. I downloaded 2 of them both had the same issue.2. went into realtek settings, and changed it to multi stream mode, no device was detected.3. I used 3 pairs of headphones.4. Someone online said it might be loose audio cable, i assure you it is not. The audio board also has a usb port on it and that port is working fine on my laptop.Any solutions that might work will be appreciatedhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/x1-carbon-audio-jack-problems/td-p/3333313

Hello - nbsp I have a X Carbon with the ThinkPad USB dock nbsp Everything worked great under Windows nbsp I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on off or rebooting audio USB X1 dock ThinkPad issues 3.0 Carbon nbsp However since upgrading to Win I have a very frustrating audio issue nbsp Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock nbsp For example I'll get an incoming call from Skype and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers then say the Realtek audio device is unavailable nbsp If I call the person back it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device which is what it should have done the first time nbsp However the issue isn't only with Skype it's with all apps nbsp For example if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about second then stop nbsp I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device nbsp All the while Windows is configured and properly reports the dock sound device as the default which X1 Carbon ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock audio issues is what I want nbsp I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X not properly talking to Windows but both are up to date and either Lenovo or DisplayLink who makes the dock drivers have any noted issues with audio-switching nbsp Has anyone else experienced this issue nbsp It's very frustrating

I think most users know that TrackPoint has an auto-correction mechanism to avoid permanent physical tilt. That is, when TrackPoint is pushed towards a direction with constant force for several seconds, that direction will be corrected as "zero-point". Therefore you'll observe a counter-movement when releasing TrackPoint. What I want to mention is that, back on X220, if you press middle-button when pushing TrackPoint, the above mechanism will never be triggered regardless of how long or how hard you push. This is a correct and thoughtful design, because when middle-button is pressed, such tilt should be user-generated rather than permanent physical. However, on X1 Carbon (3rd gen), the auto-correction mechanism will be triggered even when middle-button is pressed. This is NOT a correct behaviour.I guess such behaviour is coded in Synaptics driver. If so, please kindly contact them to correct this behaviour. Thanks.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/TrackPoint-behaviour-issue-on-X1-Carbon-3rd-Gen/td-p/3353144

Hey, Funny enough this has nothing to do with the dock itself. Just opened up laptop the other day and in the bottom right it says that "ThinkPad OneLink Dock Attached!" I've tried checking devices as well as looking for a usb port being used in my computer and theres nothing in either place. Just to repeat there is nothing attached in any usb port, in this laptops very short life there has yet to be anything in any usb port so I'm not quite sure whats going on. I have malwarebytes and I ran a scan today and found nothing. Any ideas?Morten Nissov
The Onelink dock doesn't connect to USB, "Onelink" is lenovo's special dock/accessory port. For a 4th gen, it should be Onelink+, which is a thin port about 1" wide located next to the power port on the left edge of the laptop. That said, if the laptop says the dock is connected even though you don't have a onelink+ dock and have never connected one, there is definitely something wrong. I'd probably suggest calling Lenovo support, and/or exchanging it for a different laptop through your reseller.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Carbon-X1-4th-Gen-OneLink-Dock-Issue/td-p/3373754

My screen got vertical lines and dead last week. I sent the laptop to the service center to get a replacement. I got it back yesterday and found there are light bleeding out from the four cornors. And i feel the screen quality is not as good as the original one in terms of black level, viewing angle. Should I call back and let them redo it? Another issue is that they reset or reinstalled the system (even though I removed my password). Not it looks different when the computer boots up. It was showing a white Lenovo logo in a pure black background. Not it starts with a thinkpad sign and then comes with the four ugly microsoft square logo. Hi tilen_t, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
First, have you run the Onelink Pro Dock firmware update?

Display issue in Lenovo X1 CarbonDisplay non touch. Native resolution 2560x1440 on ci7 8GB 256GB SSD.When I wake the laptop from sleep/power on/restart it keeps happening for around 5 -10 mins then screen goes to normal.Sometimes screen stays dark but when I move the screen to and fro at different angles at some point display starts working.Though on external display it works fine. Now I would like to ask if any one who has the Idea that? 1. Is it a BAD/loose connection between display cable & mother board or between cable and back side of LCD panel?2. Is it a bad cable itself?3. Is it an issue of faulty LCD panel? or 4. HI! We have updated one X1 Carobon to Windows 10 for test and see if the function cast do device can work. The laptop find the tv but when we want to connect it says "cant connect" so we cant reflect the image Any suggestions?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Windows-10-Cast-do-Device-issue/td-p/3305337
Lenovo Gen 4(20FC) Carbon loses audio after Lenovo System Update We have several of the Gen 4 X1 Carbons here at work and they work fine until Lenovo system updates gets run. We have had 4 people run the system updates and now the system has no audio. If you click the audio icon in the try, windows begins diagnosing the system. If you try to install a different driver, it fails with code 1. No matter if you uninstall, reinstall, different versions of the driver....nothing seems to restore the audio. I finally did a system restore to before lenovo system update was run and the audio returned to working. It seems to be a software problem but I would really like to know if there is some way to get it working without having to restore every time someone runs lenovo system update.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenovo-Gen-4-20FC-Carbon-loses-audio-after-Lenovo-System-Update/td-p/3372423

Every since windows 10 upgrade i have been having issues with my audio. When i start a video for the first time i will hear crackling and poping noise then it will catch up after i pause the video and play again. Then the audio slowly goes out of sync. At first i thought that were my speakers, but it was happening over headphones as well. I tried the latest version of driver along with switching to the windows 10 generic audio drivers. Anyone else having issues with this?http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19981613
I am having some weird issues when trying to use my microphone on my laptop (Rog G551, Win10). Basically, when I plug in a pair of headphones and I check "Headphones' in the Realtek HD manager I can't use the microphone at all. On the other hand, if I check "Headset", the mic works, but I can only hear from the left cup.
Any input is appreciated. Cheers!
Tried updating your audio drivers from Asus or Realtek's website?
What headphones / headset are you using?
HiI own a X1 Carbon Gen 2 thinkpad and wonder if it is possible to replace the current keyboard with a X1 Carbon gen 3 keyboard (with proper mouse buttons), or if it will not fit?I have tried to check the manuals and the connectors seems similar although some things, such as the fingerprint reader, seems different. I have no problem "loosing" the adaptive keyboard and fingerprint reader if I can have all the functionality of the keyboard and trackpoint on the new "keyboard" (i.e. the gen 3 frontpanel).
I am interested in this exact topic as well. Looks like the Gen 3 keyboards lack the adaptive keyboard - that clear stripe on the top that changes. The FRU for these X1 Carbons seem to be the whole keyboard, adaptive part, trackpad and bezel - they go for 150 USD or so. Problem is we don't know if it will work given the model year differences. A nice alternative would be just to replace the trackpoint. They came close with this one, but it is no macbook in terms of tactile feel of the pad. I really am having a hard time with it and it's been about a month. Lenovo please help!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-3-Keyboard-on-X1-Carbon-Gen-2/td-p/1939212
Hi, I am trying to play music via the Audio tab within ManyCam through a broadcasting website, but when I set it up to play and then I start broadcasting, the music sounds all distorted, staticy and double playing. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to change something in my sound settings?
Ok so today the audio on my computer just stopped working It s plugged in to a LCD tv which I audio issue No use as my monitor My soundcard is realtek not sure which one though So I did a few tests checking what worked and what didn t I eliminated all problems and it came down to the audio cord I replaced the cord and everything was fine Now all of a sudden the audio isn t working again I ve checked device manager and there are no conflicts with the driver I can t uninstall the driver as I don No audio issue t know if I could reinstall it but I did try No audio issue updating it The volume isn t on mute and the tv volume is at When I unplug the cord and plug it back in realtek s audio manager lets me know that it was unplugged and plugged in which No audio issue suggests that it works but when I plug headphones into the same audio out jack that the audio cable was in there is still no sound The headphones do work in the front headphone jack Any ideas what could cause this I don t want to have to stock up on cords to replace them three times a day lol nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/no-audio-issue.935017/
audio works fine on everything except internet, if i try to watch any video on youtube or yahoo, no audio. cds play fine, system sample music works fine. i'm puzzled!
Have you opened sndvol (start menu type sndvol) and checked that your system doesn't have a independent slider for internet sound?
I know several fixes for this, one of them involves a somewhat risky registry edit though. So let's start with the basics.
If that doesn't work CAREFULLY follow the instructions here
After installing the most recent windows update, when watching videos and movies, and listening to music a crackle can be heard. I have tried installing the latest driver and troubleshooting without any change to the problem, my laptop is not even a year old.....
I just troubleshooted the problem, where it told me the audio enhancements would not load.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/audio-issue/td-p/5715907
i have a problem while listening to music,,,, the pc freezes up and after 5 secs it is normal again.....sometimes it reboot
it also happens when i use windowfx, or other programs to make xp look better
this appears to be a graphic card problem,, since the pc freezes and i had a problem last week with it,, i thought it was useless,, i couldnt start the pc cos it rebooted,,, after uninstalling and reinstalling the graphic card driver the problem was solved.....
the weird thing about this is that only happens while using a music player (wmp itunes winamp) etc.. but when i play games that also have audio like cs source nothing happens.......
maybe uninstalling the gpu and audio drivers and reinstalling them????
is there a way,, after the pc is rebooted,, the error that caused that????
windows must have a registry about these type of events
thnx in adv
Is this music on a CD or is it one the hard disk?
I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 that doesn't have any sound. I've checked the device manager and nothing is listed as being disabled, turned off, or malfunctioning. However, I did notice that the SigmaTel High Def audio driver was missing, though not listed as missing. I used Add/Remove Hardware wizard in a vain attempt to locate the missing device. Unfortunately, it didn't find a thing. I then attempted to install the driver for the missing device anyhow, and it gave me an error message. What am I missing?
Can you discribe the error message you recieved when attempting to update the driver? What exactly is the missing Device you tried to update?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/316771/audio-issue/
I got a new computer on September nd of this year had no issues at all none what soever until now I had my speakers plugged into the quot rear quot output of my computer and on Christmas Bad Really Issue [Please Help] Audio today I got a z a Turtlebeach gaming headset So I Really Bad Audio Issue [Please Help] unplugged my Speakers and plugged the headset into quot Rear quot quot C S quot and quot Mic in quot there was no plugin on my motherboard where my audio comes from do not have a separate sound card for quot Front quot so I left that one unplugged After that moment audio went to hell My audio on my browsers skype and video games all stopped I thought it was because I hadn t set up my Headset yet so I went into my sound properties and set up audio as the z a guide had instructed but I still had no audio So I decided to go into my sound devices properties and played with some of the basic settings like the filters and audio levels I turned on an quot Environment quot option called quot Room quot and discovered something The only way I can get audio on my computer is if I have any of the quot Environment quot options turned on Which is ok but they give everything a slight echo which becomes maddening After doing that I proceeded through a journey of troubleshooting I checked my Headphones plugins all were correct triple checked unplugged entirely and then plugged my old speakers back in thinking the problem was with the headset Well the problem persisted If I turn off the quot Environment quot filter I get no audio from anything EXCEPT from Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers The audio works fine on those I turn on the filter the audio still works on those two but on everything else as well just fine with the echo from the filter I tried reinstalling my audio driver twice I had a very tech savy friend of mine walk me through some different ways to try and help disabling things changing settings here and there but none of it did anything and I m still having my problem He thought it might be because of my HDMI cord that I use for my third monitor even though it didn t make sense I unplugged it and restarted my computer and the problem still persisted This computer has been fine up until this point and no one I know has any more ideas for me Please help Here s my motherboard name copied directly from my tracking order quot ASUS P Z -V Lk ATX LGA Z DDR PCI-E PCI-E PCI SATA SLI DVI HDMI DP USB Motherboard quot Thanks for your time nbsp
My problem: I have no audio.....
So my power supply blew last week and i ordered a new one. Installed the PSU turned the PC on and now the audio just doesn't want to work.
There are no Device errors in the device manager under the sound categories.
I have uninstalled all Sound drivers and reinstalled.
I have uninstalled all codecs and reinstalled.
The speakers i use are working perfectly with any other device.
My computer detects if i connect or disconnect my speakers.
If i click my volume up the green bar rise's showing sound
Please help me.....I can reformat my CPU as well but i really don't want to.
I had this exact same problem but it fixed itself for me after a week >.<.
if you hook up a mic or a earpiece and set it as default sound device does it still play sound?
you mentioned it plays fine on other computers...But do other speakers work for you? that should narrow it down.
This may be just ignorance on my part, and I'm going to sound very computer illiterate but..
I'm having an issue with the sound for my pc. currently, my speakers plugged into the green slot work fine, but my monitor's audio, plugged into the monitor with a green plug and then plugged into the blue jack with a blue ended plug(cable that came with the monitor)... doesn't produce any sound. I also cant seem to find the audio out in my audio preferences.
Also, not sure if its unrelated but in the playback menu for my audio, "digital audio HDMI" A icon I haven't seen before, (which looks like a monitor) says its not plugged in, not sure if that's the blue port.
Haha, sorry if that is so Vague.
Hiya pal and welcome to the forums
It needs to plug into the green jack on your sound card.

In Device Manager...uninstall each HD device listed...and the Realtek controller...then reboot and install just the Realtek audio drivers.
Very recently my computer has been having problems with getting the sound to work on some of my players To be more specific my winamp will not play any songs and just sits at even after I hit play and then media player classic VLC player DivX and even the windows media player will NOT play sound on any video file I open avi mkv etc etc Strangely when I Audio issue restart my computer some of the sound comes back on and winamp works but when I open up any video file within those media players some of the sounds just turn off and everything becomes silenced once again Even the sound when you click on a folder is muted Now the one thing you ll ask me first is do I have all the codecs to play all these files Yes I have every Audio issue single codec needed to play just about everything so this also confuses me as to why it has started this glitch or whatever Also I had recently updated my VeohTV program as well and it will not play any sound either I honestly have no idea what the is going on with my computer and I know my speakers are fine nbsp
I don't know what apps your using for your sound system but it may well be you've somehow switched a default player with something else. The system might not know which program to use. You have to run down what defaults and drivers your audio uses as default and make sure it's still the same. Go into Sound under Control Panel and check to see what's going on. Jazz
I'm running a PC using the ASUS A8V-XE motherboard, with an x64 processor. I recently installed Vista Ultimate, but I have no sound out of the green jack on the rear panel. When I hover over the speaker icon, it says Digital Output Device (SPDIF) and says it's working. However, I have no available speaker settings, and it's the only device under the playback devices.
I attempted to install RealTek drivers. They go through set up fine, and ask to restart. When I do, there's no app installed or any realtek item.
Is this motherboard incompatible or am I missing something else?
noobie welcome to the forums.
Right click on the speaker icon and select "Playback Devices", then click on Speakers and then click on "Set Default". That should get your speakers working.
There is also a good reason that the Realtek drivers don't appear to do anything, according to the specs for your motherboard,
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
it has the ADI/SoundMax audio, not Realtek. Try the driver linked to here (last post),
Audio Problem - SoundMax ADI1986A - Microsoft Windows Vista Community Forums - Vistaheads
Might be a good idea to uninstall the Realtek driver if it is showing in Programs and Features before installing the SoundMax driver.
I have no audio It began as so My computer froze one night which rarely happens So I rebooted it by holding the button on my tower I turn it on then this screen pops up with a Issue Audio few options Starts Windows Manually and a few others I clicked each and all it did was restart my pc I clicked System Options before it got to the screen above It was something like System recovery Anyways it worked My whole computer was brand new I had to register my Audio Issue name where i bought it etc But then I could no longer play games its video card was gone It had no audio and the programs it originally came with were gone I have the OS disk which I heard is what I need to re-install everything But when i put it in and restart my pc nothing occurs I heard I need to edit my BIOS but I do not know which Can anyone help Id appreciate it Should I just return it to the manufacturer I still have the warranty nbsp
It sounds like you've rolled it back to a point when no Drivers were installed.
Did you get a Disc with Drivers on? If so, run it & it'll sort it all out, otherwise you may have to go to the manufacturers website and download / install them.
i'm getting a crackling noise / robotic sound from my 5.1 speaker connected to pc via 3.5mm audio jack ... i'm using win 8 CP x64 ... motherboard has inbuilt audio chip by VIA ... audio codec - VT1708S .... though i'm using the latest driver ver. (v9.8), it can't solve the issue .. tried running it in win7 compatibility mode but to no avail (though the HD Vdeck is running 'n' i can access the settings from UI).... strangely it was working fine in win8 Dev Preview x64 .... the main prob. is that w/o VIA audio driver, i can't get front panel audio output via headphone ... i uninstalled it .. now the audio is fine with default microsoft hd audio ....
pls help if anyone can solve this crackling audio issue with VIA audio chip ....
First try updating your wireless adapter driver from the chipset maker's website. (VIA, Realtek, Broadcom, Intel, Atheros)
If that doesn't help, try updating the motherboard bios version.
My computer is whacked. I'm not experienced with computers at all. Today, I just shut my computer down. I turn it back on an hour later, And get a black screen saying Start Windows Regular, Safe mode etc. I clicked each option, and it wouldn't work. So I pressed like f11 on the page before, And it re installed windows, and had the process where you register your computer all over again. Like adding your name, address, etc.
That was fine, I needed to reformat. But now, I had no Sound Software, Anything. I dont Microsoft Works which I need. So any recommendations? Help please.
You should have maybe asked first:
However, to get the driver you need (assuming you don't have a support cd with the driver on it and the driver isn't on your comp already in the restore area), we'll need information.
Download and run Everest Home (it is free):
Once you download it, click on it and let it install and then run it from the icon on your desktop and then click on 'Computer' then on 'Summary', then go to the VERY top of the screen and click on 'report', then 'quick report-summary' and then 'plain text' and save it then go to C:/programs/lavalys and open that folder then open Everest Home sub-folder and then reports sub-folder and click on the report which will open it in a text editor and then use your mouse to highlight ALL the debug stuff at the bottom of the report and delete it and then save that file again and then copy and paste it to here.
so i turn on my hp pavilion entertainment pc (windows vista) and find out that i have no sound. i go to play music and get an error message "audio device not found, or in use by other program".
when i look in the device manager, there is nothing for audio anywhere.
the volume icon is missing from my taskbar, and my vista sidebar volume gadget is frozen at 100%.
in my "sound" menu, "No Audio Devices are Installed".
I haven't changed anything, what has happened to my laptop??
It appears you need to re-install the drivers from your computer mfg disk.
My sound and microphone both work sometimes and other times they don't work but the problem is specific every time. When I play a game with a push to talk key every time I use the push to talk key the game will momentarily freeze then the audio will switch from headphones to speakers then back to headphones and sometimes it doesn't even switch back to the headphones and just shuts off the audio entirely. I don't know what is happening but it is very annoying as when I want to talk to my team mates I feel like I am gambling my ability to play every time I talk. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it, ask any questions if it will make it easier to diagnose the problem.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/613359/audiomic-issue/

I've built a HTPC for myself, but I'm having issues with sound in Media Center.
I recently bought myself a Philips SRM 5100 remote control for work with WMC, and they work great together (pior to that, I had never used WMC - which now, as I understand, seems like a great piece of software).
The problem is: when playing back a DVD (or apparently anything mixed in surround), I don't get all the channels to play along. When I switch to 2.1 sound, I don't get the voice tracks. When I go for 5.1, I don't get background/ambient details and the subwoofer/low sounds are really weak.
I tried a different software (XBMC) for a test, and sound works ok with it (but the remote doesn't), so I guess there's something wrong with WMCenter, its configuration, or codecs.
Can anyone help me solve this?

The first troubleshooting step I would recommend is the easiest: restart your computer. Sometimes a single application can take control of your sound device and not let any other apps use it, but you can release that control by restarting. Here are a few other steps you can try: Run the audio troubleshooting tool in WindowsTry connecting headphones or a set of external speakersSet the default sound device to make sure your computer is sending audio output to the correct deviceIf your computer came with Windows 10 installed, you can restore the original sound driver in HP Recovery Manager, or update the driver through Device ManagerIf you upgraded your computer to Windows 10, you can update the sound driver in Device ManagerHard reset your notebookThese solutions and more are explained in detail in this document: HP Notebook PCs ? No Sound or Distorted Sound from Speakers. I have 7.1 sound on my motherboard and creative speakers. It works fine when playing from a media player. When I am streaming directly from a web browser I am reduced to one speaker. Can anyone offer a solution please.
I have a Dell XPS that we purchased a while back We are really pleased with the system and have not had any major problems But lately it appears that our sound card or something is quot shorting out quot It is a Creative Technology X-Fi Audio Processor WDM I ve updated all the latest drivers when issue Audio suggested from Dell Support Microsoft and all the results of my searches in the control panel say that it and all audio components are working correctly However it does sound beautifully for a Audio issue while The speakers are working and the sound stops abruptly with horrible sounding static videos on social media are playing in slow motion and there is no sound only static Audio issue The only cure I ve found is to restart the computer and the sound returns for several days then it quot shorts out quot again I have searched the data base for possible cures but nothing seems to be working I will be glad to post more info if needed to hopefully fix our computers sound Any suggestions for a fix will be appreciated Thank youhttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3513/t/19988097

Hello I recently picked up a Samsung quot LN E F F LCD TV Output Issue TV Audio and I had been under the impression that the TV would include some form of audio output The only options on the rear panel are HDMI inputs Component RCA Audio TV Audio Output Issue Input and one jack that looks suspiciously like an Optical Audio out marked quot Service quot I had never TV Audio Output Issue heard of a TV without any audio output but apparently it exists I have a Pioneer k audio receiver that I use for surround sound and hook all of my peripherals EXCEPT my basic cable provided by my college campus as the receiver has no antenna input I would like to be able to use the surround sound with my basic cable so my question is is there a converter I can use to take a cable antenna and convert at the very least the stereo audio into RCA for the input on my receiver Or is there a way I could use the HDMI ARC to get the audio from the cable back into the receiver Thanks in advance nbsp

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I have an Asus A8R-MVP motherboard that i just installed Windows 7 on, but i can't seem to get sound to work from the speakers. It appears that the only sound devise installed is the SPIDF port. I need to get the basic left/right computer speaker audio working. I can't seem to find any compatible drivers for the onboard audio for the board
Any help with this would be really appreciated
According to the ASUS website there are no compatible drivers...
You could try these, they are from a similar card, but I make no guarantees
I've recently bought a new laptop. It's an ASUS x54c. I have a bunch of videos on my external hard drive that I'm trying to burn to DVDs. I've used the Windows DVD Maker and also I've used Nero 7, which I've used both on my old computer and they both have worked fine, but both programs on this computer burn the video with no audio. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried updating the drivers, and I've tried also using an external DVD drive. In fact, the last time I tried it using Nero 7, I clicked on the preview button, before burning the disc, and the preview doesn't even have sound.
I just changed my pc. on my old one, when i used a dvd software like PowerDVD ans was increasing/decreasing the audio, both "Volume Control" and "Wave" bars moved up and done ( On the Volume Control Window) and thus i could have very low and very hight audio that was great.
on my new pc when i do the same thing, only the "Volume Control" moves up and down, thing that means i do not get very high volume and i have to open the volume control widow to fix that.. Is there any option i can change for this to work like on my old pc?
Any help is welcome
My guess is that this is because you haven't installed the best drivers for the sound card, and so you get the safe default XP drivers which "sort of" work for everything.
Identify your sound card's manufacturer & model, go to the manufacturer's seb-sites "download" page and download and install the most-current drivers. (if you haven't already, duh...)
Hi everyone, I have connected my apple TV to the monitor with a HDMI cable and the visual is perfect but I have no sound at all. I was just wondering what speakers I can get to connect the monitor to get some audio. Thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio/HP2311f-audio-issue/td-p/5583512
I bought this product a week ago, since the first day i experienced very low FPS even with the lowest graphic settings (5-18 fps averge). I already tried to update drivers, i only have 2 programs installed, the CPU temperature is stable and low. There is also another issue, while using headphone the volume keeps goind up and down , sounding distorted. ( Sorry if i am putting this in Notebook video section but couldn't select more than one)I know that this pc uses integrated graphics, but seems strange that a good processor like this one can't even handle such low graphics. Kind regards,Giovannihttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Spectre-13-Low-FPS-and-audio-Issue/td-p/5834404

I put Windows Developer's Preview on this computer a few weeks ago and have not had any issues 'til yesterday I had no audio I checked the drivers checked the cables speakers powersupply for the subwoofer speakers and couldn't find anything wrong Except no audio but I didn't realize it until today A few minutes ago I was looking in to this again and remembered I set up an account for testing on this machine yesterday and logged in to it Once logged in The SoundMax app began an autorun for the new user and I canceled it it wasn't pertinent to the test I ran my tests logged out logged back in to my usual account and deleted that test account I issue SoundMax audio didn't make the SoundMax audio issue connection right away because I generally don't listen to anything on the PC but as I tried to watch a SoundMax audio issue video this afternoon I realized I had no audio So upon that epiphany I created yet another account waited for the SoundMax app to run and this time I followed all the prompts Lo and behold now I have audio Let me remind you I did check all of the audio drivers and they were fine So is this proper behavior for Windows Should it allow the actions or non-action in this case in a non-administrator account to impact other accounts' functionality Microsoft says no
yes i too installed windows 8 preview on my laptop and im now experiencing a no sound problem, ive tried everything i could think of to enable it and still nothing. i'll try setting up another account and see what happenshttp://www.eightforums.com/sound-audio/5011-soundmax-audio-issue.html
First to Audio Issue HDMI TV PC I would like to say that I have search this forum and multiple other solutions on other sites prior to writing this but could find no solution to address the problem PC to TV HDMI Audio Issue that I am having I am using a Sony Vaio running Windows Deluxe connected to a Sony Bravia television via HDMI cable HDMI to HDMI My problem much like every other persons problems I have seen is audio I have video but no audio Having search other solutions the solutions usually involves setting HDMI audio output as the default through the computer s playback settings However my problem is that with the connection made and even though there is video there is no option for HDMI PC to TV HDMI Audio Issue audio when I open up to check my playback devices I have tried restarting the computer and manually disconnecting and re-connecting the cable while the computer is on but nothing seems to work I have further looked to see if it was a driver problem but the problem was not fixed after any driver updates I have been using this setup for close to a year now with no issues at all with audio until now I originally suspected that something may have changed after receiving a windows update and subsequently did a system restore to a couple days prior This worked and the audio was once again working but now a day later the audio is not working again My question would be is anybody else experiencing any issues with this recently And regardless of any possible issues with windows updates does anyone happen to know of a solution to this problem Thank you for your time and I apologize for bringing up a question that has been asked time and time again lol nbsp
You have to get the SPDIF cable that goes from the graphics card to the pins on the motherboard. What graphics card do you have?
Yesterday I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1. So I could install Microsoft Office 2010. After doing so, my audio stopped working. Does anyone know why this happened? THanks!
It is possible that your sound driver has been corrupted or invalidated for some reason by the service pack. Press Windows + Pause, and then click Device manager from the bar on the left. Are there any invalid drivers, as marked by yellow exclamation marks? If so you should go to your manufacturer's website, download and install the drivers.
Hi there An audio issue has been an absolute nightmare for me lately and I just can't figure out what causing it Before I start though my 7 Windows Audio Issue computer specs Processor Intel R Core TM Quad CPU Q GHz Memory MB RAM System Manufacturer Packard Bell BV System Model iXtreme X Windows 7 Audio Issue Operating System Windows Home Premium SP Display ATI Radeon HD Series Sound built-in to the motherboard Now I have already have tried common resolutions such as downloading correct drivers for the motherboard from manufacturers website and re-installing Realtek High Definition Audio Driver My problem is that my audio will only work if I turn my computer off for about an hour then reboot it If i restart my comp and don't wait Windows 7 Audio Issue an hour my sound does not work It doesn't pick up any devices such as my headphones in the playback devices area and Realtek High Definition audio driver does not appear in device manager Its almost as if I had no sound card at all it just Windows 7 Audio Issue does not work until I turn the computer off and wait an hour and turn back on again This is probably the strangest issue I have ever come across and driving me up the wall am I missing something obvious here
Hello BigBeefLord and welcome to TSF,
Let me start by saying thank you for posting the specs off the bat.
Okay... When did this problem first occur?
Next time the sound quits, open Device Manager and check your Audio devices for notifications (red X or yellow !).
Alright this might take awhile to explain so I'll split it into two parts my issue and what I have tried Issue A nice feature of Windows that I realized was that when I plug my headphones into the front audio jack sound would of course play through the headphones but also the sound through the speakers which is connected to the rear jack stops Now however sound will not come through the rear jack but will only come out through the front jack This irritates me to no end I basically want it the way it was originally Attempts Well from Audio with Redirection Issue the Issue with Audio Redirection start I had been using the default MS audio drivers as I had not really cared for any extra audio features The way it was was how Issue with Audio Redirection I liked it So after receiving this issue I attempted to install the VIA drivers for the audio chipset of my mobo That Issue with Audio Redirection didn't resolve anything Actually doing so only changed the sound setup so that the rear and front jacks show up separately as Speakers and Heaphones in the Sound configuration This wasn't exactly what I wanted So next was to install the VIA software HD Deck or whatever it was Now fiddling with the settings of that I could change it from the separate speakers headphones configuration to other configurations such as having sound come out through both devices simultaneously Luckily I thought at the time I found an option that would allow for what I really wanted sound to be redirected from the rear jack to the front jack when the front jack is in use However when I change to this configuration the same issue I had before where sound would not come out through the rear jack ever came back At this point I came under the suspicion that the way Windows naturally handles sound through multiple audio ports no longer functions correctly Doing a SFC command in a command-line several times has not helped any and I can't find anything else related to my situation Lastly by the suggestion from my brother I disconnected the front audio connection from my mobo and started Windows Sound came out through the rear jack perfectly fine But stupidly when I reconnect the front jack the issue just comes right back Here I'm completely out of ideas So does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do before I just kick the bucket and reinstall Windows
Well, I have been reading about the differences between HD Audio and AC97. I read that HD Audio allows basically for the front to mute the rear. Is it possible that for some odd reason this is always being triggered or something? I know that the front audio jack might be a bit broken in some way or another, since my headphone jack has been pulled out from it at odd angles and varying strengths by accident on multiple occasions.
Edit: From what I can tell, it does look like my front audio panel thinks there's a audio device connected when there isn't and that's causing the rear audio to be muted when I used HD Audio. Again, can this be caused by a bad audio jack?
After upgrading to windows10 I have lost the audio when operating my PC in game mode. Can you please advise solution to get audio back. Thank you....Doug-C1http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Audio-issue-with-windows10/td-p/5636989
Whenever i use skpe it just doest work properly. distortion comes, otherwise audio in every mode is very good my model is Dell 560http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19981166
Issue: All video I try to watch (be it on youtube, hulu, espn, etc. even dvds wont play) does not play correctly. The quality/resolution is fine but the video plays extremely choppy, regardless of if it's fully buffered, and there's no audio. Also songs wont play on itunes. I click on a song and itunes will bring it up but the song ultimately doesn't play. I've tried updating/reinstalling flash but that didn't fix it. Ive run a spyware scan and installed awaiting updates on the computer. Everything else seems to work fine (internet, word, most other programs).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I have no idea which audio driver to install, I thought I did but none of them have worked so far.
I downloaded Everest, and it says under "Multimedia"
Audio Adapter Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-1]"
I have NO idea what to install for this....the site doesn't seem to have the drivers.
If you would please post your system specs and I will try and find the correct driver for you.
my realtex audio '97 keeps uninstalling itself. i have an acer aspire 3003. i recently installed logitech software. could that be the problem.
look for 6280 (or the latest '97 driver). un-install the old one first.
