I attempted to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Upgrade was still in progress when I left for work. Returned to find notebook frozen. Tried to restart, still freezes at HP logo screen. Tried Hard Restart process, still freezes. What is my next option to regain functionality? I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm interested in purchasing an HP ENVY 720-220 computer. The specs look great, but I'd love to upgrade the RAM. According to the product specifications, it is upgradable to 16 GB. Now, my question is, would HP be willing to upgrade the RAM themselves if I paid an additional fee? I know the guide to upgrade RAM is online, but I'd rather not take the risk and mess up the machine. Thank you ahead of time.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Upgrading-RAM-HP-ENVY-720-220/td-p/5654335

Hello, I would like to upgrade the GPU and PSU on a HP Envy H8-1437c. The GPU I am wanting to upgrade to is the GEFORCE GTX 970. It is 10" in length, PCI Express 3.0, and a dual port (or double wide?). The PSU is a EVGA Supernove Nex650G. Are there any proprietary power connectors on the current psu that I should be worried about? Am I able to upgrade the current GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 )to the GEFORCE GTX 970? A few weeks ago I took delivery of an HP Envy Phoenix - se nbsp It seems these days that HP and other manufacurers don't want you to add anything that they didn't ship to you so newer PC's are harder to upgrade nbsp nbsp On the surface it seems the - se has some upgrade potential nbsp x M slots open open PCI Express x slot open PCI Express x slot nbsp I wanted to make use of the open M slot add some RAM add an SSD for data apps add a high end sound card and replace the stock drive with a bigger one 850-065se Upgrading Phoenix Envy the HP nbsp nbsp When it came to adding memory or accessing the open m slot there was a challenge nbsp The Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se CPU fan radiator was in the way nbsp I almost stripped the screws x in moving it but was successful nbsp In the end I was able to add a Kingston heyperx m drive and up the RAM to Gb nbsp nbsp When it came to hard drives there were a couple of challenges nbsp The first was fitting a inch ssd in a inch bay nbsp I found a suitable adapter on amazon nbsp The second was that the drive bays depend on a certain type of screw to work nbsp Once you know what sort of screw it goes pretty well nbsp The last challenge was SATA cables nbsp One needs degree connectors at the drive side of the connection nbsp The last challenge was expansion cards nbsp I want to add Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se a PCIe sound card to the computer but there's not much room nbsp The nvidea takes Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se up two slots and obscures the PCIe x slot nbsp There's another PCIe x slot but the video card won't fit in there nbsp I haven't done so yet but I am hoping that I can fit the PCI x card to the PCI x slot successfully nbsp So far I have been able to upgrade my - se but it's been a fight all the way nbsp I've also done some modest overclocking with the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility I've got the CPU up to MHz but have hit a bit of a wall nbsp I need to do more study and may get a better result nbsp
Schwaa, welcome to the forum. This was a very good review of how you upgraded your computer. What you discovered are the problems that are created by a mid-size case. It would be great if HP would offer a full size case for their gaming computers. What you accomplished should make a major difference in performance.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-the-HP-Envy-Phoenix-850-065se/td-p/5534653
I'm interested in swapping out my current HDD and replacing it with an SSD. Are there any limitations on the size of SSD I can install? Will a 1tb work or am I limited to 512gb or anything like that? Are there any complications I should be aware of while considering this upgrade? Thanks a bunch!
See p. 48 of the Manual here: M6 service Manual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7kLMZoGoTs There is no limit to the SSD you can install other than your budget. Any 2.5 inch SATA SSD that is 7mm thick which almost all are. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6BM3T90744&cm_re=Samsung_850_Evo-_-20-147-373-_-... The Samsung Evo 850 is my choice but OCZ, Kingston, several others make a good product so as long as it is a name brand you can shop on price and there are deals to be had. Software reinstallation/migration can be hard but if you have Windows 10 you always know you can download an install disk and you do not need a Key Code to reinstall and it will activate when you connect to the internet. Windows 10 allows you to make a system image and you can also use cloning software. Many ways to skin the cat. Post back with the inevitable follow-up questions. Hello HP Support Forum,I would be grateful if you could tell me whether my pre-built HP ENVY Phoenix 860-000nj Desktop PC should be compatible with NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card or not. Hello,Since I have some basic computer knowledge but I want to be sure before going for it, I need your advice. I own a HP ENVY Sleekbook 4-1000en and I recently upgraded hard drive and OS.I am thinking of upgrading RAM as well, as far as I know you need 2 memories of the same type so I guess I can?t just buy another 4 GB one right?Do I need 2 x 4 GB DDR3 of the same type to make it work? For example would these ones work finehttp://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-8gb-high-performance-sodimm-memory-upgrade-kit-cmsx8gx3m2a1600c9 ?Lastly does upgrading memory require any other configurations after plugin them in? Hi, I had a problem with my old HDD installed on my HP ENVY 15-j012la, so I bought a new 240 gb SSD (Crucial BX200). I replaced the HDD with the SSD, then turn the laptop ON with the USB Win10 image to install it on the SSD, but the installer didn't recognized it. I gave format to the SSD, but the problem remains. I've read that the SATA should be changed in the BIOS, but this laptop has the InsydeH20 3.7 and there's no way to change to AHCI. I would be very grateful if you could help with this issue! I picked up a refurbished HP ENVY 750-137C, and am currently looking to upgrade the graphics. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want it to last me some time, so I'm looking at the Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1070. Aside from the changes in power requirements, does anyone know if this card would be compatible, and if there are any issues to this upgrade? Also, Nvidia recommends a 500W power supply for this card. Would that be enough, or is that genrous number? Additionally, if anyone has a power supply product they would recommend for this theoretical combination, I would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks!
@Drifterx311?, welcome to the forum. Here are the full specs of the card on nVidia's website. The card is double slot and 10.5" in length. I suggest measuring from the Back I/O plate to the front of the case to see how much space is available. I believe that it will fit, but it will be tight. As you stated, the specs recommend a 500W power supply unit (PSU). Personally, I would buy one with at least 600W. This will give you some extra power for peak needs. I like Corsair products. Here are some PSU's for you to review at Newegg. If you choose a modular PSU it will allow you to only install the cables that are absolutely necessary. This allows for better airflow. The PSU is the backbone of the computer. Read the Customer Reviews to see what users have to say about them. A good PSU will make your system run much better. The service guide for the HP Laptop ENVY 17-j013cl indicates the largest SSD that is compatible is 160GB. Does the service guide state this because, at the time the ENVY 17 was produced, the largest SSD was 160GB? Or is the system limited to 160GB SSD, for some reason? I'm getting issues with Intel Rapid Start technology after upgrade my Port?g? Z30t-A-103 to Windows 10.
Windows Events Viewer shows:
Error: Unable to read LBA sector directly
I tried to disable the Intel Rapid Start technology from BIOS but it seems that the problem is not solved.
Any ideas?. I guess that an Intel Rapid Start technology Driver is coming.
Intel might be in the process of approving their Windows 10 drivers, in the meantime just keep it disabled in the BIOS for now.https://forum.toshiba.eu/showthread.php?84121-Intel-Rapid-Start-technology-error-in-Event-Visors-after-upgrading-to-Windows-10

My notebook will not start and no video. It does have a white light on the power and the internet connection but nothing comes up on the screen - a10 vision will flash also. So, the power light was flashing white but the computer would not power up. I removed the battery to do a hard reboot. Now no matter how long I remove the charger/battery and hold the power button down I can get no life from the laptop. No noise whatsoever, no light on the power button. My laptop kept shutting down from over heating. Being very frustrated at having to finish a project, I looked up overheating problems on my phone and saw a video to disassemble and clean the dust from the heat sink. So, I disassembled it and cleaned out the dust (which I have had to do on other laptops). I reassembled it but now it doesn't start. Since I learned from the manual that the unit should have been shut down rather than left in hibernation (I actually forgot that it was in hibernation). I have searched online for a solution and tried to reset it by removing the power cord and battery and holding on the power button for 20 seconds, but still does not turn on. Nothing happens - only the light around the power cord plug lights up - no other lights or sounds. Are there any other procedures I can do to get the unit to turn on?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-m6-will-not-start-after-disassebly-while-in/td-p/5698243

Once turned off it would show an orange light then a blinking white light then a solid light then maybe an orange light again then it would show no light! So I got a smart charger and it turned on again showing 0% charging then it shut off. Afterwards it appeared to have a solid orange light so I let it charge for a while. Once I attempted to boot it again, it made the power on vibration but still shows a black screen and now no charging indicator is on. I dont know what to do and have no warranty but if someone has a similar problem or a solution to the problem please share.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/HP-Envy-X2-13t-wont-start-or-indicate-charging/td-p/5734534

The original OS was WIN 8. The newest BIOS is 8.10 Rev issued Oct 2013. Any update to the BIOS is linked to the original WIN 8, and none is offered for WIN 8.1 (per the software and driver page). Restarting your PC during the upgrade to 8.1 would be fraught with disaster, as you learned. Put system to the original hardware state, just as it came. Attempt to re-boot, and report back. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-h8-1400-Desktop-PC-series/5295996/model/5296860/document...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-H8-1414-start-but-no-screen-and-no-usb-power/td-p/5743909

Hi, I have an issues that I am unable to resolve after some major investigation. I am unable to enter the BIOS Setup. On the startup I press ESC until a menu appears. On that menu I press F10 (BIOS Setup), however it continues to Windows Boot screen. The sane thing happens with F9 (Boot Device Options). Thank you for your help in advance. Hello, I have an HP Envy M7 that just stopped working for no reason. The AC Port light blinks 3 times when I press the power button. I tried removing the battery unplugging adapter and held the power button for 30 seconds but this did not help. I tested the Power Adapter and it is working correctly. I then replaced the AC Power jack and still had the same problem. I ordered a refurbished motherboard and installed it and still have the same problem. I did check the Ram in another computer and it worked. Any other suggestions? I guess its possible that the replacement board I got was faulty. Im a little frustrated as I have dissasembled and reassembled this thing so many times. THanks for your help, Dominick
I took a look at your products user guide and found the following information on the power adapter light:White: The AC adapter is connected and the battery is charged.Blinking white: The battery has reached a low battery level.Amber: The AC adapter is connected and the battery is charging.Off: The computer is using DC power. If the notebook is running on battery power and is not charging the adapter light will blink white. If the adapter blinks white while the adapter is connected this could be a sign that the adapter is not charging the battery. Have you noticed if the battery icon in your taskbar shows the battery is charging or not? You may need to perform a hard reset:Turn off the notebook.Disconnect the AC adapter.Remove the battery.Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.Reconnect the battery.Reconnect the AC adapter.Power on the notebook. You may also want to test and calibrate your battery. You can see information on doing this here: HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Using the AC Power Adapter Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Hello,I have a H8-1414 that will not startup right after legacy boot was activated. I have no screen (Blank screen) and no power to the usb ports (This means i cannot even access the bios by memory). I also have had 6 long beeps a couple of times and I changed the video card. I do have the 6 beeps once after the replacement. I reseated the memory blocks as well, disconnected all drives including memory card readers, Hard disk and Cd drives. The unit is only connected with one usb keyboard and the video card (connected via PCI-Express) i have swapped monitors and cables as well. I Also performed a biod reset via the bios reset jumper next to the bios battery with both the battery installed and disconnected. Anyone else had this issue? Please help. Thank you.
Are you seeing a power led lit on the PC? What happens when you press the power button? Had you considered removing the video card and then powering up the PC?If the video card has failed, you still have HDgraphics provided by the CPU? Have you seen the no-start troubleshooting document? It may help you.http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-h8-Desktop-PC-series/5295996/model/5296860/document/bph0...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Envy-H8-1414-will-no-start-no-screen-and-no-usb-power/td-p/5695187
So this started when I used to put my laptop on sleep and close the lid. When I opened the lid the screen will go blank and I would have to do a hard reboot. As if that was not annoying enough, now even on full restart some times the screen goes blank and I have to hard reboot it to get it working. This is unacceptabily annoying. Please let me know how to resolve these issues. (Am using windows 8.1 and ubuntu 14.04 if that effects the answer)
Hello @ankitagarwal , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your screen does not recover from sleep mode or restart on your ENVY 15 notebook without doing a hard reset. If this issue persists in both Windows 8.1 and Trusty Tahr you're looking at a hardware or BIOS issue. Make sure the BIOS is up to date (Version F.64, Revision A, Pass 1) using the following download: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) If the issue only occurs when closing the lid and not just going to sleep it's most likely a display issue. If it happens without closing the lid as well I would suggest testing an external monitor to test for potential GPU problems. You can also use the HP tools to test for hardware issues with the video output by following this guide: Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). Let me know if any of this helps.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Hp-envy-15-Blank-screen-after-sleep-and-at-start/td-p/4528446

Hi,I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10 yesterday but when my computer restarted it will only show the HP symbol when booting up. I cant laod up the BIOS or anything from the keyboard when it loads up. I wondered if there is anyway of loading up the BIOS so I can install a new operating system through a bootable ISO image from a USB drive. Nothing will work or load up can anyone think of a solution which doesnt involve wiping the hard drive? Recently, my TouchSmart Envy 20-d010t quit working. I checked to see if it was the hard drive by putting a new hard drive in and it still does not work. Symptons are when it starts up, nothing comes up on the screen. THe green light is on at the power adapter. A light is also on at where the power cord plugs into the PC. When it tries to start, you can hear the fan running and the hard drive start spinning up. Other suggestions on what the problem could be. Regards, Shawn
@spratt?, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. If you start your system and there is no screen responce at all but you hear the fans the video controller may have failed. Is there any beep codes or are any of the LEDs flashing. If you can post back with the full model and product number I will provide you the link to the maintenance manual so you can check the connections. Ther light at the back comes on when the power cord is plugged in, but the start button coes not work. Unplugging and holding the start button down for 10 seconds and re starting does not work.Restartting with F10 key down does not work. Nothing seems to do the trick. My computer will not start. This is the same issue I had in December 2015 while still under warranty. HP replaced the motherboard. It has now (July 2016) failed again but is beyond the 90 day replacement warranty. Can I buy another replacement motherboard and install it myself? The Product ID is: K8Q09AV - The warranty expired exactly 1 month ago and now this machine will not start. It will flash the Power Button and the CapLock LED 1 time.I looked this up and it is a Processor Failure?1. If I just order a MotherBoard from parts will I get the Processor with it?*One other thing, I can't figure out if I am doing the hard reset correctly. The instructions don't list my model. What I did is hold the Power Button about 10 sec and the button flashed once.2. Should I check anything else first? like unplug the battery and try it. Without the Dynex PCI sound card, HDTV wonder is good.
Put in the Dynex card, install drivers (one exists at windows update), tuner code 10 device cant start.
I suppose there is nothing to do about it?
I tried uninstalling the tuner.
I moved cards around in slots.
Why cant the tuner start? What is the conflict?
My Hauppauge cards have been affected by, and have affected, sound drivers in the past. The Tuner drivers must use or update one of the shared files for both drivers. And it's different on different hardware.
As a workaround I've found that I must install the drivers in the right order.
In your case I would suggest uninstalling both, then install the sound card first, followed by the tuner.
See if that works.

I want to upgrade my computer or maybe just buy a new one if you believe the upgrades would be too much for what I'm asking for.
Anyways, I upgraded the video card from Radeon Xpress 200 to GE force 8400 GS which helped out on some of my games but it's still acting a bit slower then what I like. So basically what I need some advice on is making my CPU run faster without it costing a fortune. So here are the specs and I'm open to any and all suggestions: Intel 3.3 ghz, Memory 512 MB, Hard drive 160 GB, Network 10/100 Mbps.
Thanks so much!
Upgrading memory is fairly inexpensive these days. If your PC supports dual-channel RAM, get two identical 512MB or 1GB sticks of RAM. You don't want to mix your old RAM with new RAM though (it may not run in dual-channel mode).
There are also some tweaks that will improve performance. A couple of my favorites:
In Display Properties > Themes, use "Windows XP (Modified)"
In System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings, choose Custom and uncheck everything except "Smooth edges of screen fonts" and "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".
Note of caution: These two tweaks will make Windows XP look a lot like Windows 2000.

Hi All I've just upgraded yesterday from Windows to in applications Menu 7 10 after Start to Missing upgrading from Windows operation went smoothly after around an hour of additional configuration tasks I'm almost 'at home' However what I noticed and is really confusing is that I have around applications installed visible under Programs and Functions Program Files Program Files Missing applications in Start Menu after upgrading from 7 to 10 x folders however when I choose the start menu and Missing applications in Start Menu after upgrading from 7 to 10 quot All Apps quot I see only some not all I even didn't see the Office there as well as it couldn't be found in search however when I ran an option app quot Get Office quot it said that I have already Office installed and I can find it under quot All Apps quot - gt quot Microsoft Office quot - but as I said it wasn't there I fixed this for Office by going to Programs and Functions and repairing installation did the trick However is there any way to do that for other applications in bulk There is no option to repair on other apps as on the office Of course I have shortcuts for majority of these apps on my desktop and that works but since I'm a perfectionist I would like to have all the apps as well in menu start Initially I thought that I can see only bit applications there but it isn't the case these are mixed both and bit Is there any way to fix that Rebuild it somehow Thanks in advance for all smart ideas amp suggestions
When you did the upgrade the start menu is reset to default settings.. same thing happened to me and all I had to do was re-pin my programs/apps to the new start menu.

Did you have anything overclocked? it could be a psu issue. I'm guessing it is since you get no power at all now. 750 watts is cutting it close if you're overclocking, or even running the system at full load.
Hi folks I spent days of to when Vista 7 up from start Death on Black Screen upgrading and weeks to try and find a solution for the black screen of death that i was Black Screen of Death on start up when upgrading from Vista to 7 encountering after having upgraded my OS from Windows Vista to Windows As soon as the upgrade process was over instead of taking me back to my new Windows desktop the screen was black after the start up windows logo I thought that it was part of the upgrade process so i gave it half an hour before restarting my laptop just to see a completely black desktop without ANY icon or anything The only thing that i could do was to press CTRL AlT DEL to bring up the windows log off shut down menu but that was basically it I could not by any means summon the Task Manager and i could not see any icon on my desktop so Prevx is pretty useless in this situation I tried booting my Laptop on Safe Mode and it booted without any problem Then i disabled my display driver from Device Manager and i rebooted normally and it loaded windows with the custom display driver for meaning that i would not get the Aero style and that my graphics card would not work at its best but it still works I have read about many people complaining about this problem without actually finding a solution for their problem on threads all around the internet If the symptoms of your Black screen of death sound identical to mine then this solution should work It doesn't matter what version of display driver you have Just load windows and let the black screen of death appear When it does appear press and hold quot ESC quot the escape Key for about seconds and TADA your windows desktop will load with Aero I ONLY joined this thread to let you guys know about my accidental quot discovery quot I can call it so as i have not read one single article that could resolve my problem and i have been reading articles from as far as Let me know if this solution worked for you GassySnake

I was recently given 2 AIO computers from a local charity group to try and repair that both have the same problem. They seem to start but the screen remains black on both no cursor or anything. I will list what I have done and this will be on both of them.Replaced ram with known good ones.Removed the CMOS battery for 15 minCleared BIOS with jumper (battery in)Tried tapping F10 for 8 seconds then arrow down twice and hit Enter twice.A hard reset unplugged and held in power button for a couple minutes I see an HDMI port on both but I believe this is an input port?? I have read about reflashing the BIOS on a 23-d010ea and was wonder if this is what might be needed??That article is here CLICK HERE toward the bottom of the page.Any help is apreciated!!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Envy-23-D284-and-Envy-23SE-D394-Black-Screen/td-p/5841498
The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Defective-Hinge-on-HP-Envy-17-Second-Envy-to-Fail/td-p/5717522

Im planning to buy a HP Envy 13 to use for school, since this notebook is lightweight and thin and the battery life (from what I've read) is decent. I've noticed that there are 2 HP ENVYs available, both with the same specs, both with the same price ( ENVY 13-d120nd and ENVY 13-d010nd). I wondered what the differences are between them. So I hoped you guys from the forum could help me with this. Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy. Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. It was purchased new in 2013.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-HP-ENVY-Notebook-bent/td-p/5810726

I really like HP Envy and I really hate Windows 10. I am trying to find a HP Envy 17 model that either comes with 8.1 (Pro) , ideal for me, or 10.0 and can be 'downgraded' to 8.1 (Pro). I previously purchased a top range Envy with Windows 10, but it was a nightmare trying to move to 8.1, I gave up in the end. Price is a (sensibly!) secondary consideration. Suggestions please.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-Envy-17-and-Windows-8-1-Pro/td-p/5680193

Hello! I have HP ENVY Notebook 13-d102ur, comes with preinstall windows 10 64 bit I need to install OS Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate. Please provide me drivers for this OS. I would be very grateful. Thanks.
Hi, No drivers for Windows 7 from its home page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-13-Notebook-PC-series/9604483/model/11874796 You may have to go back to Windows 10 one day, please check: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/01/skylake-users-given-18-months-to-upgrade-to-wi... Anyway, if you really need Windows 7, please install it and use Windows 7 updates to find right drivers. At the end, may be 1 or 2 missing, please post back and our friends will help you. The Integrated Intel Graphics HD5500 reports as blu-ray compatible, (it is not possible to switch to the Nvidia 940M on this machine). But the Windows 10 Intel HD5500 driver reports as being not compatible ???(Using the latest driver off HP's download site).
SDF15, Thanks for the suggestion, but I have made some progress today. If I select the Integrated Graphics driver, Cyberlink's Blu-Ray advisor runs using the Nvidia 940M driver and the driver reports as supporting Blu-Ray. I had previously tried running this test selecting the High Performance NVIDIA Processor and the driver reports as not supported, which is an odd result. Ihe Cyberlink Blu-Ray compliance test only works if the Integrated Graphics driver option is selected. I had also previously tried this test using the Intel HD5500 driver and the driver also failed the Blu-Ray compliance test. Even though the graphics card reports as Blu-Ray compliant. Using the the Integrated Graphics driver All the key critera now give a pass (I am running with an external USB3 Blu-Ray drive as this machine is fitted with a DVDRW). Even though all the criteria now pass, PowerDVD 15 is giving the classic 80040111 error which is usually reported if the machine is not HDCP compliant. I will be contacting Cyberlink to find out why the HP Envy 17-n009a is unable to play blu-ray even though it passes all the Blu-Ray advisor criteria. Thanks for your suggestion. By the way, the Windows 10 Nvidia 940M driver on HP's site for this laptop gives corrupt file error when extracting. I raised a case with HP about this.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/windows-10-hp-envy-17-n009a/td-p/5262901

Hello! I am using an HP Envy 14t-2000 and I would like to upgrade the OS to Windows 10. Will Windows 10 be okay for this laptop? Or will I run into problems? I just need to make sure before I upgrade since I've heard of so many horror stories about Windows 10 upgrades. Thanks!
HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10.First, ensure you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update. Cheers!

So I just purchased this computer a few days ago and it's on it's way. I knew it came with Windows 8, but I just thought I'd do a fresh install of 7 upon receiving it for obvious reasons - that is until I noticed that Windows 8 was the only operating system they provide drivers for. I was wondering if it was still possible to install them on 7, or even run this computer on 7 at all. Thanks in advance!
Win7 is driver-complete in the installer and quickly updated by running all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates with reboots, after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3).
Put your wireless driver in your backup so you can get online quickly to do the updates. After all of them are done there likely will only be a couple of missing drivers. Win7 can use Win8 drivers.
I'd suggest after turning off Secure Boot you shrink C to create a Logical partition to test install Win7 on so you can decide between the two.
More here on turning off Secure Boot: Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7
Then Win7 must be installed in UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums from DVD or using a UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
not sure why. My scanner cannot work with my laptop. Zero response. The message I obtained is CANON DR P215II IS AN OLDER USB DEVICE AND MAY NOT WORK WITH USB 3.0 Plug the device into an available USB 2.0 port, and click Next. Otherwise, click Cancel I do not know how and what to do next. My concern is I change anything, I may affect something else
sunbloom Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 are different specifications, such that not only is USB 3.0 a lot faster, it also supports devices that draw a lot more power than USB 2.0 devices -- which is why you got that warning. With something like a USB stick, this is generally NOT a problem as they don't draw much power, but with things like portable hard drives, that can be a serious problem. Since your scanner is likely powered by AC current (meaning, it plugs into a wall outlet), then it is not drawing power from the USB cable and should work fine -- just slower than it would connected to a USB 3.0 jack.Good Luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/USB-ISSUES-USING-WINDOWS-10-ENVY/td-p/5826975

Hi,I have warranty until November 16. Bought my laptop in The Netherlands. I am now in Seoul until December. My computer refuses to boot up. System check and components check showed that there is nothing wrong with them but Windows needs to be reinstalled with a USB. I don't have this and I don't know how. I hope an HP service employee in Seoul can help me with this. I cannot call as I have a Dutch phone number and can't pay 2 euro per minute.Kind regards,J

Those commands are not needed at all, if the hard drive has a GPT partition table.
You can try to repair by using the bcdboot X:\windows command. Here is more info: link

Hi, I'm having trouble with Windows Hello. When I first purchased my notebook, Windows Hello was working fine, I had set it up correctly and had been using it successfully for a couple of weeks. Now, it's suddenly not working, and when I try to configure it in settings, there's an error that it cannot find the camera. I've been through the support blogs/forums and tried everything I could find, i.e. updating the software drivers, updating bios, restarting, etc. I have no idea how to get it working again. I can still unlock with my pin/password but it's just inconvenient when it was so quick to use Windows Hello before. If anyone can help that would be fab! I, like many others, have a "popping" sound, coming from the right speaker only. I've tried so many "fixes" that are available on this site, but nothing has worked. I've tried commands, scans, uninstall and reinstall Realtek HD Audio, etc. It has become very annoying! I don't understand why there is not someone at HP who can provide a definitive answer with a result that works. My computer cost way-y-y too much for this problem not to be resolved.
