Memory upgrade/expansion for HP-ac143wm

Q: Memory upgrade/expansion for HP-ac143wm

I was wanting to pursue the memory upgrade for my 6 GB HP-ac143wm...do you have the precise name/type of modules to perform either the 8 GB or 16 GB upgrade? I am a poweruser/programmer and would benefit from more memory. Thanks, Joe

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is the Service manual: Manual p. 2 the Manual says 8 gigs is the max. I personally think it will take 16 gigs since it will take an 8 gig module, but to be safe assume 8 is the max. To go from 6 gigs to 8 gigs you have to discard the existing 2 gig module and replace it with a 4 gig module. How to on p. 46: 4-GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 691740-005 This is really only supposed to be done by an authorized technician to keep the warranty, but it is actually not terribly hard to do. There are a lot of screws involved, however so if you are not used to tech work you might want to take it to a shop. Post back if you need more help. the 6 gig to 8 gig upgrade should be somewhat noticeable and does enable dual channel memory operation which is a bit faster than single channel and the extra 2 gigs is needed by any intensive computing. 8 to 16 gigs might not even be noticeable. This is the module you need: https://www.amazon.com/HP-691740-001-1600MHz-PC3L-12800-memory/dp/B00CI08FX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=... What is the maximum amount of RAM that a 15-ac143wm's motherboard will support? I'd like to upgrade this to 16 GB if possible, but can't seem to find any information on it or its motherboard anywhere. I realize that opening the netbook up to install more RAM is very likely to void the warranty; I'm not worried about the warranty.

A:15-ac143wm RAM upgrade?

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Two non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots (Intel Core processors) DDR3L-1600 dual channel support Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM in the following con?gurations ? 8192-MB total system memory (8192◊1) or (4096◊2) You have 2 memory slots since you have an Intel Core (i5) processor. Yours came with 6 gigs which is a 2 gig and a 4 gig.  Memory is accessed by removing the bottom cover. It is not as hard as some models which require removal of the motherboard to get to the memory, but still not a trivial thing.  The specs say it takes 8 gigs max but we have seen reports of success with 16 gigs. I just question the need for 16 gigs. Very few end users need that much memory or even benefit by installing it. I would recommend 8 gigs or 2 x 4 so that the memory you have is in dual channel mode which is ever so slightly faster.  It is DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM memory. Post back if you need help finding the right module(s). This is not as easy as it was in the recent past.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country.  With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit...  James

I have an ACER aspire 5733.  It came with both memory slots filled, one DIMM0 with a Kingston DDR3 1024mb PC3-10700 (667 MHz) and the other, DIMM1 with a Kingston DDR3 4096 MBytes PC3-10700 (667 MHz).  I'd like to replace the smaller one with another 4gb stick so that it performs a little better, and is more likely to cope with Windows 10, but I can't work out how to idenitfy the right one to buy. Which specification is most important to match. Is the Mhz important ?  Some UK sites don't quote a mhz number on what seem to be the right sticks.  how do I work out what pin I need? any help most welcome

Hello,

I really enjoy this new laptop. Only having this problem with memory expansion.
It currently has a M2 256gb SSD built in, and I want a 2,5'' 500gb HDD in it aswell.
Therefor I need a bracket.
I have found a picture of this bracket, add in attachments.
Found on the following site (picture 4/8): http://laptopmedia.com/highlights/in...grade-options/
In this picture is no M2 slot to be seen.
Looks like only one of these posibilties has been add into the laptop.

Question is; where can I find this bracket, so I can add more memory to my laptop?

Hi everybody. I have a question a bit strange/or difficult! I'm using Dell Dimension E521. I have 4 (four) slots to add more RAM memory. I have it filled with 4 (four) 512 MB RAM modules. I have a feeling that I need a bit more. What can I do? My motherboard supports only 2 gigabytes all together. Wondering if there is anything I can buy (a link for the item please) to add another 2 gigabytes? It can be something what I can plug in to one of my USB outlets. Or do you think the existing 2046 MB of RAM memory is enough for me?
(How difficult would it be to install a different motherboard? I donít really understand what can I do with a Processor chip itself?)

Is there any current documentation or whitepapers that illustrate why a customer should upgrade by adding DDR3/4 memory as opposed to believing they will get the same performance by allowing Windows to page out to an SSD drive?  Particularly if the software they are running specifically calls for more memory than is currently installed in the machine?

I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

I want to upgrade the memory of one of the pc's in our house. I get low memory alerts often and I can't delete much else to create room. I have never opened up a pc before, and I don't want to screw up and make things worse. The pc in question is a HP Pavilion a1150Y with a Intel Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz). OS is Windows XP SP2. It came with 512MB RAM and I would like to go up 2GB. I went to www.crucial.com, ran the system scan, and it says that this type of memory can go into that pc: "DDRII memory with support for DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 speeds." I don't know what speed I should be installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

Your notebook can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to use 2 x 2GB module.
Compatible 2 GB module has part number PA3513U-1M2G or Kingston KTT667D2/2G.

Put the part umber in Google and you will find a place where you can order it in your country.

Although I do not see any significant change in my PC usage in the near future, I am now seriously considering maximizing from 4 to 8 GB which will cost me $150.00. (It's probable that I am doing this just because I can)

What do I expect from this? In other words, what difference does it make? Very specifically, will an extra 4 GB of RAM make any impact on high speed games?

Any downside?

A:Memory RAM upgrade

Really you will see no change. 4Gigs is more than enough and the money would be better spent on other things.

If you want better performance, buy an SSD (Solid State Drive), you will see a huge increase in performance compared to adding memory.
Corsair Neutron Series GTX CSSD-N240GBGTXB-BK Solid State Drive - Newegg.com
Something like that and your old drive as a file storage drive will make your computer like new.

The 1st thing you should do is go here; http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

download SIW 1.70 to your desktop. This application will give you lots of info on your machines. This is an executable that does not have to be installed, just download and launch from the desktop. If you don't want to keep and use it, just right click on the icon and delete it.

Personally, I have never heard of an Azza motherboard. See how SIW 1.70 indentifies it.

You can go with each machine to www.crucial.com and run their online scanner and it will tell you what RAM you use. They should have just about any memory you need.

Hi

I have Dell Dimension 8400 and recently replaced 2 x 512 MB cards with 2 x 2GB cards. When I ran the systyem specification program it only shows that I have 3GB
of RAM.

Anybody know why the total 4GB of RAM is not recognized.

A:Memory upgrade

You probably have a 32 bit operating system and that is about the limit that a 32 bit OS will recognize. If you want more RAM recognized, you will need a 64 bit OS.

You will notice a difference especially with applications that eat up resources like Ms Office If you upgrade to 1Gb. slightly on startup more so when opening applications and loading Internet pages.

I have an acer 5735 travelmate. It can take a max of 8gb memory. I currently have 1x 4 gb ram . I recently ordered another 1x 4gb stick same as that of the existing ram.
After installing the new ram the pc( win 7 64 bit) takes 4 mins to boot up. When i try to see the installed memory it doesnt display any information. When i swap the sticks and install them on their own the laptop works fine. Ihave tried it on both slots and slots seem to be fine with each ram stick on its own. Its only when i try using them together to get max of 8 gb my laptop stops responding. Can someone help me with this issue

A:Cant upgrade my memory

Hi matrixxxx, welcome back!

Could be two things:

1.) How does the new stick you bought compare to the original?
Is the new one DDR3 SDRAM; DDR3-1066/PC3-8500?
I couldn't find your 5735, this is the 5744; see memory list: TM5744-6467 | Product Model

2.) They both work individually, but not together so that would make me think they are somehow incompatible.

EDIT:

Looked around, and I found some ambiguity.

Crucial, Kingston, and Memory.com say the 5735 can only handle 4GB max, but Best Buy says 8.

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module. I have no idea why this will not work. If I re-insert the original module, the computer boots fine. If anyone has any idea at all of why this is happening I would like to know. Thanks

A:Cannot upgrade memory

According to the CRUCIAL site, the Gateway MX3230 laptop has a single slot to upgrade from 256 MB to 1024 MB. The site doesn't advise what type module it uses though.

According to the MEMORYX site, it uses a single DDR2-533 SODIMM module(256 MB, 512 MB, or 1024 MB).

According to the KINGSTON site, it uses a single DDR2-533 SODIMM module.

That pretty much confirms that a DDR2-533 SODIMM module is what it needs. Have you examined the sticker or the writing on the module, just to make sure that you weren't sent the wrong one? It's also possible that the module is defective.

(That's the first time that I've run across a laptop that supports up to 1024 MB of RAM, but has only a single slot and not the usual 2 slots.)

can any one tell me does this mean i can only put total 2gb mem ? 1gb in each slot? ( i have two slots)
also i bought 2gb. ram from small cut back computer store and they installed it works but after a while it keep showing me an error ( blue screen etc. ) i tried in diffrent bank - 2gb in one slot and 512mb in other still the same error.
but soon as i switch back to original 512 mb in each slot no problem .
what can be wrong.? i love to install total 8gb ( 4x4 ) or atleast 4gb. (2x2)
thanks for any help.

A:memory upgrade

You should probably contact Lenovo's tech support with your question; however, as I read it, you are stuck with a maximum of a pair of 1GB SODIMMs -- 2GB total memory.

The mere fact that larger SODIMMs exist doesn't mean that your laptop's motherboard can address the memory on them.

Edited to add: Have you tried it without the 512MB module? Using only the 2GB module? That might work. Then, again, it might not. Only way to tell is to try it.

MEMORY UPGRADE: After I installed two 1-GB chips in Slot "A0" and "A1 of my Emachine 3619, 32-bit Windows Vista O/S. I checked "Systems" which shows that I have "1.99 GB of Memory (RAM)". Belarc Advisor shows that I have 2040 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory however, "Slot A0" has 512 MB and "Slot A1" is empty. Can anyone make sense of the foregoing?

A:Memory Upgrade

As long as the BIOS setup screen and the System Properties window shows your computer has 2.00 GB of RAM, don't worry about what Belarc Advisor says. It's not accurate in many cases on how it displays the amount of RAM and the number of RAM slots.

It's normal for System Properties to show 1.99 GB or less when you actually have 2.00 GB in a computer. That's because the on-board display adapter and the other devices has a small amount reserved for its use.

I use a windows 7 pro Dell Optiplex 380. It is used for only one program (for work) and had 2gb memory. The computer said there was 1.73% usable memory before the memory upgrade. I upgraded the memory to the max of 8gb and now the computer says there is 2.86gb usable memory. Is this normal? The memory was doubled and what looks like a small increase in usable memory. Where did the other 6gb memory go? When I upgraded the memory a message came up that the computer recognized a memory increase and asked me if I wanted to enter SETUP or start windows normally. I picked start normally. Should I have done something else? The memory properties is as it always was "let windows determine what is best for this computer".

A:Memory Upgrade

- Do you use a 32 bit version of Windows 7 ? That version only can handle & recognize a memory of 4 GB. A 64 bit version can handle all the 8 GB.
- An increase from 2 GB to 8 GB is 4 fold increase, not double.
- Open Resource Monitor (memory tab) and see how large the different parts of the memory have become after say 30 to 60 minutes. (post a screenshot).

Your motherboard is 0M3918 which is a proprietry (peculiar) to Dell - 4 DIMM slots would allow you to upgrade to a maximum of 4 x 1Gb of DDR2-400 and -533. RAM must be 1.8volt as you wont be able to increase RAM voltage thanks to Dell's near useless BIOS.
Suitable RAM would include :
Corsair VS2GBKIT533D2 (2 x 1Gb) DDR2-533 (4-4-4-12-2T timings, 1.8v)
Crucial CT908120 (2 x 1Gb) DDR2-533 (5-5-5-15-2T timings , 1.8v)
Kingston KTD-DM8400/1G (1Gb single module) DDR2-400, 1.8v
KIngston KTD-DM8400A/1G (1Gb single module) DDR2-533, 1.8v

Previously I had 6 GB of RAM. During normal use about 3 - 4 GB is in use. Recently I made a video (about 45 min long) in Adobe Premiere Elements. I've had success with shorter movies but when I go to try to burn this one to disc, either Adobe crashes or I get the BSOD. When I have this video project loaded it takes up about 2 GB one its own leaving me with little to no free memory.

So then I upgraded to 12 GB Ballistix Tactical. I loaded up the Adobe project, and it still gave me the error about having little system memory left. With the project loaded I was using about 6 GB of the 12 GB but Task Manager said I had no physical memory free.

Actually, right now, with Adobe closed I'm using 3.28. Under Physical Memory:

Total 12278
Cached 8066
Free 1721

Why do I have so little free memory after this upgrade? Where is the rest?

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 with 128MB of RDRAM which they refer to as rimm's not simms. I want to upgrade to 256MB so I can install Windows XP (presently running ME). The system is a PC600 and is about 2 years old. I cannot find any info on RDRAM any where. Can anyone tell my how I know what type of rimm's I presently would have in the box (has 4 modules 2 are physically higher than the others) is RDRAM something special?

I have a customers Dell laptop Inspirion 1501 with windows vista.

He wants to upgrade his memory. System currently has 1gb 2 512mb, When I ran a program to tell me what type of memory it has it came back with DDR2(pc2-4300) Speed: 266mhz(ddr2 533) with 4gb max When I checked the dell website it listed an entirely different type of memory for this. DDR2 SDRAM Speed 800mhz and PC2-6400

Then I see two different things that tell me that 2gb is max then I see 4gb is max. Can anyone help here?

I, too, have an Inspiron 1501. Attached are 2 screenshots. One is from my .pdf copy the my Inspiron 1501 Owners Manual. The other is from the Crucial web site . Between the two, you can see they indicate the proper RAM for my Inspiron 1501 to be 200 pin SODIMM's, DDR2, PC2-5300 with a Maximum capacity of 2GB (1GBx2).

Maximum RAM applies to the 32-bit version of Windows. If you are running the 64 bit version, your maximum capacity may be more. Go to this Crucial site for full information.

I'm running 2GB of the specified RAM in my 1501 with a 32-bit OS.

I recently upgraded the RAM on my Compaq Presario Desktop. My computer seems to be working fine & the upgrade shows in the system info; however, occasionally I get an error message that indicates "....memory cannot be written......" Since this is only intermittent, I don't know where to look to find the cause & solution. Can you advise?

use this program to test the memory sticks:

http://www.memtest.org/

download the pre-compiled bootable iso.zip if you want to boot from cd/dvd drive.

see if it can run at least 5 passes without failure. if failed, remove one stick of ram and test again. repeat until you find the bad ram stick.

A:Memory Upgrade.

32 bit OS's cannot see a full 4 gigs, it's one of their design limitations, 4 gigs is the most they can address and some of those addresses have to be reserved for core windows functions like video memory mapping
64 bit OS's can address much more than the chipsets can support or motherboards can physically hold

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 (P4 3GHz, 533 FSB, Win XP). The PC came with 1 GB of RAM (4 GB Max capacity). If I upgrade to 2 GB do you think I will see a noticeable improvement in performance? My wife and I use this PC for Internet, Movies on the DVD, and she does some Music downloads. Little-to-no gaming. No Web designing.

My 15 year-old son has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4 2 GHz, 400 FSB, Win XP). His PC came with 256 MB of RAM (1 GB Max capacity). If I upgrade his system to 1 GB, I'm asking the same question as above re: noticeable improvement in performance. He uses his PC for Homework, Internet, Chat , Movies on the DVD, Music downloads. A little gaming but nothing more elaborate than that.

By the way, the home is broadband/wireless. I log on the net at 1.5 - 2 MB, depending on traffic; my son's PC does the same.

Thanks for your time.

INSTALLED NEW ME ADD 256 (2X128) FOR ATOTAL OF 384MG, MAX FOR MY MBOARD. WHEN I BOOTED UP COMP. WAS ONLY READING 192MB, AN ADD. 64MB MFG WEB SITE SAID "BIOS" NEEDS TO BE UPDATED. HOW DO IDO THIS? IS THIS DONE IN DOS? CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A LOT OF TROUBLE? PLEASE HELP.

A:Memory Upgrade

Hi-- Your system's BIOS may be able to see only half the 128MB modules due to the bit depth on the modules chips....if you try the older, low density modules, perhaps you will be able to use all the RAM. The BIOS update, if a BIOS flash is what you meant, is not easy and can result in a non-functioning, dead PC> best left to really expert techs. You can buy a new BIOS chip, that's much easier on the nerves and the PC.
Hard to say if you have the slots to get up to 256 using 64MB or 32MB modules---if you have 4 slots for DIMMS that would do it, but some 64MB chips are high density, depends on when they were made. PC66 ones would probably be lower density, but if the system uses PC100 or higher, that will NOT work. Take a look at the www.crucial.com website, type in the system model etc to see what your RAM should be....or go to the motherboard support site, consult the manual for the board.

WHAT motherboard is it, maybe can help find out?

A:Memory upgrade help!

Now that is detail! The support site for this model states the maximum memory to be:

Up to 2 GB of DDR2 533 MHz memory, upgradeable to
2 GB using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)Click to expand...

Am I reading that correctly, because you stated you had plans to upgrade it to 8GB? Newegg has plenty of options for laptop memory, but I think your motherboard may be limited to something closer to what you have, with room for only slight improvement. If I am in error, someone please correct me.

You also posted this:

Maximum Installable Memory : 2GBClick to expand...

EDIT: In other words, it seems to me that you can only double what you currently have in size, but not in speed. Again, I welcome scrutiny. I think that you may be looking for something more than I am providing here.

Hello to all

Gateway 500 S ( Essex model) 256MB RAM
Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ processor
WindowsXP SP2 Home Edition
IE6

I would like to add an additional 256MB of memory to the above mentioned machine. Gateway Remote Assitance has told me that I have two memory slots. Currently, they are occupied by two 128MB cards. I need to purchase "in pairs" according to their instructions ( I.E. two 256MB cards) and remove the current 128's and replace them with the 256's which leads me to my specific question. In my System Tray, I have a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. How does this icon figure in to the overall procedure in getting this upgrade in place and do you have any suggestions about a good way to accomplish said upgrade ?
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance !

Pete C.

ignore the message in the system tray

you need to power off the machine and then open the box and replace the two memory chips with chips compatable with the PC

heres a website with images to show you the type of thing involved

have a look here

this will tell you about compatable memory

hi Guys.I want to upgrade my ram from 8gb to 16 gb.I have a HP ENVY 15-k008ne Notebook PC (J8E89EA) , after checking my memory info i found this:8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 8 GB).my question is my laptop is 1 slot or 2 slot? can i get another 8gb or i need to remove the old one and get a 16gb?thank you.

Here is the Service Manual: Your Manual Two SODIMM slots DDR3L-1600 MHz Dual Channel Support Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations: So yes you can install a 2nd 8 gig module to have a total of 16 gigs.  Memory module (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz, shared): 8 GB 693374-005 https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... See p. 72 of the Manual for "how-to". Sorry to say it is a very hard job and takes removal of the motherboard. And it is not supposed to be done by anyone other than an authorized HP technician. If you are out of warranty this is much less of an issue but be careful in there, please. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I'm trying to convince my dad (computer novice) that in spite of what people have told him, deleting files from the hard drive will not make the computer "faster." I tell him that he needs more memory(RAM) but quotes his friends saying that you need to free up space (memory) to keep the computer from acting slow. The miscommunication stems from the interchangeable meanings of the word "memory." He argues that by deleting movies from the HardDrive, the computer will work faster. So I need your support in proving to him that he should buy some more RAM modules.

A:Memory Upgrade

OK,More Mem will make a bit of Difference but not as much as U think.Depending on what U do 512MBs is the Min these days....Make sure U have the fastest Mem your MB will support.

But before U shell out on more Mem try these:

1) Do all Adware/Spyware/Anti Virus Scans

2) Go to Start/Programs/Assessories/System Tools/Disc Cleanup.Put a tick in EVERY box and click OK.

3) Go to Start/Run and type in msconfig
Click on the Start Up tab and Uncheck the boxes that U do not need in Start up.Do not uncheck your Anti Virus.

4) Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Setting and uncheck all boxes except Show Windows Contents while Dragging
Use Common Tasks in Folders

4)Defrag your Drives

This will help!!

Cheers...Sherry

There's probably a very easy answer to this . I have a Dell 3100 with 512mb RAM. What's on invoice for memory 'MOD,DIMM,512,2X256,400,1R,NECC~512MB (2X256MB) Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz Memory'. I plan on upgrading to at least double. As there appear to be bloody loads of different specs for memory I need to know what is or isn't compatible. I have had a look at the memory on sale on the Dell site but there's very little info regarding spec. Could buy direct as could then be certain it would work but can obviously get better deals elsewhere.
