Network password lost

Q: Network password lost

I'm trying to find out a password to a network in our house. We dont have any passwords on file and the company that set up our network two years ago are no longer in business.

We're not here often so the password that we once knew is now forgotten.

Is there any remedy for this?

Is it possible to just start up a new network with the same modem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you just talking about the Administrator password on your computers there?

For around a year my old laptop automatically connected to my wireless router. I just got a new one and when I went to connect to the wireless internet it asked for a password. I remember putting one in when I first got it (my router) but I cant recall it.

I have internet from a neighbor, but its slower. Is there anyway I can retrieve it? (My downstairs desktop is wired to my router).

Its a Verizon internet Router ( I can get exact info if needed)

I lost my password for the wireless network. How to do I re set the router or password?

Here is what Linksys advised. Go to 192.468.1.1 and put admin in password field. When I do that, here is the message that came back. The Servicer 192.168 .1.1 requires a user name and password. 401 Un Authorized. AUTHORIZATION is required.

Linksys wants to charge me for tech support. Something I really do not want to do.

The model number of router is WRT 54 G2 v1.

Can anyone assist with re settting password and what above means? Will re settting password affect the laptop we use downstairs?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

A router reset(Hold the reset button in for at least 15 seconds) will reset all the router parms to default state, including the password.
If you have changed the default password, that might explain why you are getting the error msg..
So,I would dig out the router manual, make sure you know what the default user id and password are(I think admin/admin)
and do a router reset.
You will then have to re-enter the encryption(wpe/wpa,etc) and password,so that all wireless pc's can connect through the router..
Then you can change the default router userid/password to something other than admin.this time, write it down.

On my home network I have my desktop my HTPC wired and my wife's laptop Wifi The desktop and HTPC are bth running Win pro The laptop is running Win All are it Invariably I try to log onto my HTPC from my desktop and it says that I am unable to access the files I then open up network and sharing center to check on the network password network password lost/changed only to find that is has changed itself somehow Even after I reset the password on both the HTPC and the desktop I still cannot access my shared files on the HTPC from the desktop The only way to share files is to get them from the HTPC which for some reason lets me access my desktop files The laptop is not really an issue ONce I enter the new password I can access files on the desktop and print no problem I guess the lost/changed network password issues are the random changing of the network password the inability to access networked files FROM the desktop The reverse seems to work flawlessly Thanks in advance for any insights

I'm not sure how the password can change by itself but if you are having access problems between those machines it may work better if you set up a Homegroup and join that Homegroup from all other machines.

I just purchased a Windows 7 PC from Dell and I cannot remember the password on my old "workgroup" Network. (I don't even remember setting one up 3 yrs ago.) I need it to make my wife's pc able to access the printer that is now connected to my new computer. All help in finding the password or a work-a-round would be greatly appreciated. A:Network Password lost - Need to find it.

We can offer very limited support for lost passwords. If your account is an administrator account, after you logon to the original computer go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. Then make choices depending on whether you want to create a password, change your password, or manage another account.

I've been using Outlook 2007 for a while with no problems. I used to select my account, and when the "Enter Network Password" box popped up it had the focus, so I would just immediately type in my password. I did a set of Windows and Office updates a couple of weeks ago, and now when that box pops up the focus is still on the main Outlook mail reader screen. I have to click the Password box to shift the focus so I can type in my password. Is there a way to restore this automatic focus for the Password panel when it pops up?

Hello,

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

Hi GinnyBee, welcome to the forums

Try this:
At the login screen (if its the normal welcome screen with the user account that you click on), try pressing ctrl-alt-del twice.

Then put Administrator for the username and leave the password blank.

If this works, you can go into User Accounts, click on the account name you wish to modify, Create New Password, then type in the new password.

Or you could just tell him to tell you what he changed it to, or else you'll tell on him

Is the password for administrator? or just the main user? For most people it's actually the latter - start the computer in safe mode and you should get the option to log in as Administrator where you can then go to user accounts and remove the password for the other account and then restart normally. However if the Administrator account is the one that's password protected then you're in trouble.....maybe someone else will have advice in that case.

Welcome to TSG....

On this forum anything to do with the word password is actually forbidden, there is no way to know who the actual owner is for whatever the use for the password is and since this is a problem with it.

I would suggest contacting the site in question and if you can prove to them you are the owner then they might be able to help you.

Hi there, if I am posting this in the wrong section, I apologize.

My problem is that I recently changed my logon password for my account (which has administrator priviledges) and for the life of me cannot remember. Ive tried every thing i can think of, but still cannot remember it.

I tried loginrecovery.com (the free version) but it did not work.

Currently im on my Guest account, which means I basically have no privileges, cannot change anything, or do much besides documents and web browsing.

I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could lend some advice on how to recover my password, or what programs to try.

Thanks!

Please help - I've been stoopiddd

I have a small Samsung laptop (running Windows 7 Starter, I think) which I haven't used in over a year.

For some reason, I used a different password to log onto Windows than I usually use, and didn't make a note of it.

Now I urgently need some files which are on that computer...

Is there any way I can either reset or bypass the password login screen to access the files?

Thanks in advance for your help - much appreciated!

Jay.

My question is:
My sister forgot her pasword and has been trying everything for a week.

Would it be better to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows 7 or restart the computer as a new computer?

Can either be done without the password or is it a paper weight?

It should be the administrator's windows login password. If you don't know that then you aren't even getting to the desktop screen. I read in here under another thread that there is a way to get past this. You will need to find that thread. I also know on ebay there are people selling a cd that is suppose to delete the admin password on vista. Look under software on ebay for that (I do not sell it).

Is there a way to recover a lost Windows login password???

Relevancy 44.72%

Hi, my mum is running XP with Tiscali broadband. More often than not, when she tries to connect she is asked for her password ( we have tried clicking remember password!) but then is told it is not recognised. After several worth of helpline phone calls they take her thru the whole setting up procedure again & she is connected.
A few days later the same thing happens again!
Is this a money making ploy by Tiscali? Or is there something ( virus?) that could be causing the password to become unrecognised?

thanx

A:password keeps getting lost?

When you say they take her through the set up procedure again, does this include re setting the password in the modem?

If you call the providers help desk they should be able to give you the address to type into address box in your browser.

alright, here's the situation: i had been meaning to change my administrator password for some time now and very late last nite, i went ahead with it. i then went to sleep (i don't usually log off when i go to sleep). this morning, apparently having forgotten that i had changed my password the night prior, i went into the control pannel to change my password again, and i seem to have forgotten the password i set. i keep getting "your original passsword is incorrect" messages.

so, i have full administrator access and i don't know my password. (i have already tried guessing several things and checking caps lock, etc.)

is there any hope for me?

I re-installed Win2K using the boot disks I made using a Win2K system, it reset the Administrator password and account. You can then log-in as Administrator with no password and add users back to the system, their information should still be intact. You can then reset the passwords as needed.

You might want to remove your email address unless you want to get spam.As to the password problem we might not be able to help you with that as per the forum rules. If it says no operating system chances are the harddrive is failing or has failed.

Sorry but Password help is against the forum rules.

You'll have to visit your local PC shop.

Happy holidays to you all!!

Can someone tell me how to get past a administrator password at stat up please, my 14 y.o. son put a password on his computer and forgot it now he's about it and to be honest it's now only good enough to use as a boat anchor, if we can't get past this password, then I can have my computer back & not worry about the nasties he's downloading onto my computer

Hi!

The rules clearly state we can not help you with bypassing forgotten passwords as we cannot verify your intentions, sorry.
