Latitude E7250 Plastic cover peeling

Q: Latitude E7250 Plastic cover peeling

I have a fairly new laptop and the cover is peeling from the casing. Is this covered by the warranty as I would have thought this should not be happening so soon. The service tag is CJY4J72 and the laptop is less than a year old.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Your images are not linked -- but you should call Dell support to see what they say.
If it's cosmetic damage, they won't cover it -- if it's a manufacturing defect, they should.

My laptop wont power on at all.
No charge light.
No light when power is pressed.

Was working fine yesterday.
Have tried battery and charger from identical working laptop to no avail.

Any ideas? I can usually fix laptops etc but if it wont power on at all I'm lost.

I have a dell latitude e6510 that won't start up. When I push the power button, the cooling fan starts up, several of the lights on the case come on for about five seconds (hdd and power) and then the whole thing powers down.
Anyone have any ideas?
Any help greatly appreciated!

A:Dell Latitude E6510 will not start up

Have you tried a hard start. Disconnect the battery and power cord. Then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Then try reconnecting the battery or the power plug and see if it will start. If this dose not work you might what to post your computer or laptops Model and make plus your systems specs.

I'm in deep doggy-doo.

When my 2TB Sata-III drive wasn't being recognized (ported to a new build), I pulled the data cable off to check the connection and off came the little plastic tab that guides the plug onto the pins!

Without it, there is nothing to press contact between the cable & pins, let alone hold the cable firmly in place.

Worse, I can't even plug it in to rescue the data off it! I suspect I must have damaged the connection somehow when I plugged it in. The pins appear fine (within reason considering what happened.)

Gluing the tab back in place is no help if the connection still doesn't work and I need to unplug it again.

Am I screwed or is there a way around this mess (short of paying hundreds to some recovery service)?

A:Plastic tab on SATA drive port broke off

Oh boy do I know the feeling, I once pulled off the same thing from a month old mobo, but I was able to find a replacement in a shop and soldered it back, maybe you can do the same ? Try finding a female SATA and soldering the other end of it to the HDD ?

I recently bought a used dell c640. It worked fine but there was no charger with it so of course it sat dead for days. Until I bought a brand new adapter/charger. I've had it plugged in for about an hour. The battery light is on but sometime it will go off. If I push the battery in a lil it turns back on. I tried turning power on without battery installed and the on light and little lights by the power button come on for a few seconds then go off. Any idea what's wrong? I don't think it's the cord like I said new and the lights wouldn't come on until I plugged it in. Please HELP!

This has worked for me. Remove the battery and power cord then hold down the power button for about 20 secs. Replace the battery, plug in the power brick and see if the laptop will boot up.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 and the motherboard died, It's out of warrenty so I bought a Motherboard on ebay. The Bios Service Tag does not match the number on the bottom so I would like to chage it to the correct one. How can I do this?

I read about a DST CD = Dell Service Technician CD that has this option but I can't find one.

It's not a real important thing but when I use the Dell System ID application it reads the Bios Service tag and not the real system tag that Is registered to me.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Dell Latitude E6400. When I'm not using it for a while the screen goes black (like into a sleeping mode) like all computers and laptops do. But if it stays black for a little while, and when I go to get back on it and move the mouse around or press the keys the screen won't turn back on but the computer is running because the light on the keyboard are lit up and I can hear the fan running. The only way I can get the screen back on is if I shut it down by pressing the power button on my keyboard and turning it back on.

Can anyone please tell me what to do or what is wrong with it. That would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hello everyone.
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop, which I bought it as a used laptop. Last week, while I am using it to browse websites, it SUDDENLY shutdown, then I try to turn it on again by pressing the power button, but it doesn't turn on. I look at the power adapter, it's green light is FLASHING. When I disconnect the power adapter from the laptop, the light on the power adapter is STEADY green. As soon as I connect the power adapter back to the laptop, its green light is FLASHING again. I also tried to turn on the laptop by using the battery, but it doesn't turn on. There is NO sound or light on the laptop at all. What's wrong with my laptop, is the motherboard dead? Sorry for a long message. Thank you very much for any help.

I had some brass standoffs I was gonna use for a motherboard I put in a case I bought but they ended up stripping and I couldn't use em all but 3 and I had some plastic ones to. Is it ok to use plastic standoffs and to mix them with brass ones? Would it cause any issues with grounding?

A:Can I mix brass and plastic motherboard standoffs?

Dalton said:

No, the motherboard is grounded well enough through the PSU connector. The screw holes are additional grounding points but are not required for functionality.

There are people running rigs that are not even mounted in a case. It's not a great idea but can be done without causing damage, however the risk of causing damage increases significantly.

Have above with ram 512 and 40 gb of memory.

I am looking to upgrade but is the hard drive ide or sata compatible.
I need 160 gb and will also upgarde the ram with cruical memory.

Should I look at changing the cpu, and if so what to.

A:Dell Latitude D610 - upgrade advice please

If I were in similar circumstances, I would buy an entirely different laptop with a 2.0 GHz or faster dual core processor and 2 gigs of RAM. Then the old laptop could be sold for $150 or so to off-set the costs.

Upgrading the CPU of a laptop is a pain. While installing an HDD with a higher storage capacity and better RAM are quite easy to do, you probably won't notice any increase in performance. Also, the resale value of the computer would not increase as much as the cost of the upgraded components.

Dear Friends Can anybody please help me with this weird thing My laptop Dell Latitude D After power failure the computer failed to boot It did beep signaling error but can t recall the sequence What I saw is that any time I try to turn on the boot starts however the screen is black but faint picture of the booting sequence can be discerned hooked monitor D600 external unless won't Dell Latitude boot Then an orange led on the right led bus turned on and the computer shuts down itself I suspected that the inverter blew out and purchased compatible one second hand However it is important to say that the computer boots and works just as always if external monitor is hooked behind The monitor can be turned off and the laptop will still go up without problem However if the external monitor cable or power cable are unplugged the same kind of failure to boot ensues Also if the external monitor is hooked and the laptop had been booted even after any time once I unplug the monitor cable or its power cable the orange led turns on the computer turns off When I received the second hand inverter I installed it although it isn t identical to the original one After installation the monitor came back to life with light and picture but either during boot or short after that the Dell Latitude D600 won't boot unless external monitor hooked orange led turns on and the computer shuts down I tried to change BIOS settings and several times I could make my computer to boot for long period of times but during boot is always show for short time the orange led Also new warning came regarding the battery exhaustion and that I need to plug the ac adapter although the adapter is ALWAYS in since the battery is old Now the laptop never boots just like right after the inverter blowing However in external monitor is hooked as before the computer boots in a natural way no orange led and both external and laptop screens are working beautifully Now the very best thing for me is unsurprisingly to fix the entire problem and that the laptop will just function regularly As a worst case I don t care if the laptop will beet even without its inherent monitor since I always hook it eventually to projector However I need it to be immune to external monitor unhooking and that it will stay on until I hook it to the projector Any ideas Can I alter the BIOS to ignore failure modes To omit the internal screen Anything wise at all Thank you all in advance Yours Tournesol An interesting update When the laptop is running with external and its own screens together and the external monitor is unhooked for a very short time and glugged in immediatly the orange led shows up and a warning that the battery is too low and I should plug in the AC Note that anyway the laptop is always on ac since the battery is low and anyway why it is responding to the external monitor BTW if I unplug the monitor and fail to plug it is fast enough the computer goes down as if the battery is dead and its not hooked to the AC nbsp

A:Dell Latitude D600 won't boot unless external monitor hooked

Sounds like the motherboard has been damaged in a subtle way and it will have to be replaced. You have two problems. Usually when an external monitor only works normally it indicates the the LCD panel or inverter is bad. You have had some success changing the inverter, but the laptop shouldn't shut down on its own

I am having the following problems with my keyboard: space bar, back, arrow keys, numbers, letter - you press it once and then it just won't type it a second time until you wait for some time and then go at it again; cannot strike any key twice or more in a row (for example if I try to type "kibble", the second b won't show up)

I thought it may be the keyboard that was the problem so I purchased a new replacement, installed it and the problems still weren't fixed!

Anybody know what the actual problem may be??

Hello. My dell latitude D505 laptop was making a loud winding noise underneath(facing me) the left side closest to the screen. Underneath that location is a fan. Why it was making such a loud winding noise, It sounded similar to an old tape player rewinding a cassette. I don't know but I do know it's never done that before.

Does anyone know what this could be and is it safe to use my computer even though the winding noise stopped? It lasted for at least a few hours, then suddenly stopped.

Thank you.

A:My Dell Latitude D505 laptop was making strange winding sound

Is it warm or hot in that location? It's either the HDD or CPU Fan?
If it's the CPU Fan that needs to be replaced.
If it's the HDD then backup your data or clone the HDD as the HDD is starting to go.
Normally if it's the HDD it will make clunking noises.

Ok I ve been looking around online for a solution boot Latitude to D610 failure Dell to my Dell Latitude D failing to power on but none have worked and I think there are a couple details that are different from other people s problems I ll be as detailed as possible here to give a good description of what s going on When I press the power button the Dell Latitude D610 failure to boot power light comes on for a couple seconds and then goes out again and there are no noises whatsoever coming from the computer I ve tried all the combinations of unplugging the power adapter removing the battery holding down various F keys applying pressure to the buttons etc etc The thing that seems to be different with my problem is that immediately before this problem my computer had inexplicably shut down A few months Dell Latitude D610 failure to boot ago I had a problem with the computer getting very hot and completely shutting itself down I assume from overheating but it stopped doing that for a while Back when I had that problem however I was always able to restart the computer without any trouble Now the same thing seems to have happened except now it won t do anything at all Since this all started with the computer shutting itself down rather than simply refusing to start after sitting turned off it makes me think it s not an issue of a loose connection or a faulty power supply any ideas could overheating have caused permanent damage nbsp

A:Dell Latitude D610 failure to boot

the D610 ....

oveheating is never good..however that is what the thermal trip is for.

i would try reseating the memory first as loose memory can cause the laptop not to power on.

if not

first off, go here for the manual, your going to need some screwdrivers and some time.

Open the laptop up and check the CPU fan and cooler unit for blockages, its a good idea to get some heatsink paste and you will need to repaste the CPU if you remove the heatsink.

With the mobo out (its quite easy to get them out) inspect for any burn marks on the board around the components.

if you find any, then a new mobo will be needed as its probably failed, however if not reassemble the laptop and make sure all the connecting leads are seated securely.

if you have a test meter check your voltage on the power adaptor, i think its about 19volts normally on those models, but it will state on the back of the unit.

Sorry, but we do not assist with password issues.
In addition, the Dell Latitude D620 password failure is known as impossible to correct. Dell cannot do it. The famous password house in Ontario, Canado cannot do it. There are three reports of owners getting theirs fixed online, but they are not verified, and I doubt that those reports are true.

Hello. I'm getting an error message about the date and time not being stored on a Dell Latitude D800 laptop. As a first attempt to alleviate this problem I am going to replace the CMOS battery. the bottom of a laptop case doesn't give you access to the CMOS battery.

You have to pop the frame off from the top. Be gentle. It is tricky and you can break it if you don't know what you're doing.

Flexing the plastic door to attach to the two connection points is easy enough, but there is a small spring that needs to attach, presumably to keep the door closed when not in use. There is a small hole on the connection point of the door itself where one end of the spring goes, but I'm not able to figure out where to attach/place the other end so that the spring will work. My Latitude D531 is powered using the wall adapter without the battery. It worked well until recently. Now when I connect the adapter the power light on the laptop is a constant green. However, when I press the power button nothing happens. The laptop does not turn on, the fans do not turn on and there is no hard drive activity. I already ruled out a defective adapter. A:Dell Latitude D531 won't turn on

"there was abundant dust"...

The laptops motherboard could have overheated for the last time and now has failed. They run hot without the abundant dust. You could try pulling out the AC adapter and hold the power button down for a minute. Reattach the AC adapter, and try booting. If it still doesn't start, reseat the hard drive and memory. Still no start, it is time for a repair shop or a new laptop. Good luck

I know the battery is currently fried so i have to keep it plugged in for it to work, could that have anything to do with this? or is it another matter?

A:Dell Latitude D830 does not go further than the start up screen

Maybe u should try remove the whole battery and then plug the charger directly, if your pc turns on with the same issue, then it's not the battery.

Try to plug your laptop to an external monitor. if the display is normal on the external display then your screen is bad.
Check to see that there is no other sign of abnormality, such as after-POST beep or the activity LEDs.

Good Evening All,

I having a problem with my Dell Latitude D610.

I went to update the BIOS and it said that the battery is not installed despite the laptop running solely off of battery power!

I have ran the dell device diagnostic and device manager and no issue appears to be with the battery. When you check the battery info in the BIOS settings it says the batteries are not installed and also when you log into XP it constantly says running off of AC power even when its not plugged in!

Any one got any ideas what could be causing this and how it can be solved?

Thanks Nick

A:Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

It may be referring to the CMOS battery which is wired to the computer beneath the keyboard. The battery can be replaced for $8.95 to $29.95 depending on where you purchase...

But regardless, you do have a problem that must be resolved. The D610 has been one strange little irrelevant problem after another... but you cannot afford to irritate it and have that mysterious unremovable password appear as it has on so many D610 and D620 Dells.

I want to replace the original hard drive with a larger capacity drive, the original is (don't laugh):

Hitachi DK23DA-20, 20GB, ATA5, EIDE, 4200rpm

DELL's site gives me little to go on for replacement parts but an alternative site suggests:

160GB ATA100 5400 rpm drive

I have found a Toshiba 320GB ATA/300 5400rpm at Fry's. Is there anything I need to know about the ATA type to ensure compatibility? Will this ATA300 drive work with my system which previously had an ATA5 drive?

A:Replacing Laptop Hard Drive - Dell Latitude

Toshiba makes a very good drive. We rate it among the top three, along with Seagate, Western Digital, and Fusjitsu. In our repair shop over the past 20 years, Toshiba has been our most reliable drive. A 5400 rpm drive will last longer than a 7200 rpm drive, and that speed will be noticeable...
Also look at,,, and among others... prices vary almost daily.

Be sure you are getting the right type of drive... some are SATA, SATAII, EIDE, and ATA6...

It is difficult to return hard drives, so be sure you are getting what you need.

The 320 GB is a good choice, and will be almost as inexpensive as the 160... and most certainly less costly per gigabyte.

A:Dell Latitude D600 not running a full processor speed

What are you using to test the speeds? It was never a high speed laptop in the first place, but it has always been a darn good and reliable one.

Large hard drive can make a difference if it is 100 GB or larger... using the Dell version of Windows... the system wastes too much time checking empty space.

Be sure you have WXP SP2 installed, but hold back on WXP SP3, as SP3 protects Microsoft, but slows down an already slow laptop.

Frankly, I have worked on hundreds of them... and don't know an easy solution. There is an outfit in Canada (Ontario) that can do it, but the starting fee is $400...
Shorting out the CMOS chip does not work. The password is in an eeprom on the system board that is very hard to verify, and when you wipe out the eeprom, the board never works again, as far as I know.

If your new hard drive is higher RPM than the old drive, then that would explain the heat. Your old drive was probably 4500 RPM, and the new one 5400 or 7200. If that is true, there's not much you can do about it short of buying a new drive.

Hi everyone; I have a dell D630 that I started having problems with about 2 months ago, in the middle of normal functions vertical rows of small green bricks would appear, followed shortly by a crash. Then, I can power it back up but the screen will remain black. It lights up, the pixels are obviously functioning but it is black. Every once in a while it will work again but only for about 1-5 min and the green lines will come back.

This happened shortly after I had it outside during a construction project where it may have gotten some dust in it or something... I am guessing this is relevant?

I have tried blowing everything with a little keyboard cleaner air can, but that is all.

Any help would be great.

A:Green lines/bricks, crashes, powers up but no screen display. Dell Latitude D630

Hi bbblades222,
is that onboard video, or a card? the green lines, bricks, etc sound like an overheating problem, most likely vram. also you indicated that you had to recently move your machine, try re-seating your graphic card (if you have one) . and welcome to Techspot

Dell Latitude D Laptop keyboard repair is one of the more common jobs performed on laptops it s also one of the easier repairs to carry out providing the following hasn t happened A spill of anything but water on a keyboard will times out of leave you in a situation that involves replacing the keyboard all together Keyboards are manufactured in such a way that leaves little to no room to Laptop D520 Latitude Dell Keyboard Repair clean out messy spills Basically any liquid containing sugar soft drinks beer wine coffee or tea are bad news A couple of laptop keyboard repair do s and don ts in the event of a spill DON T panic Panic makes us do stupid things think before you react DON T use a hairdryer to dry out a spill melted keys are hard to type with DON T tilt the machine upside down or on its side if you do feel the need it s better to tilt it Dell Latitude D520 Laptop Keyboard Repair to the side that houses the CDROM as the CDROM area inside the machine has less components on it than the mainboard DO switch the machine off immediately and resist switching it back on until you re certain the spill has dried Survey the damage after you ve dried it out At this point you could remove the keyboard and try the machine using an external keyboard to see if anything else has been affected The ribbon cable can also be located on the front edge of the keyboard depending on the age and model of the laptop you have Note the keyboard holder thin strip of plastic that sits on the top edge of the laptop keyboard needs to be removed to get access to the screws holding the keyboard down Traditionally a spill will kill a keyboard or at best at least some function will be lost I have only ever been successful with a laptop keyboard repair that involved a water spill anything else normally results in a tragic loss and putting your old faithful keyboard to rest nbsp

A:Dell Latitude D520 Laptop Keyboard Repair

i once spilt a glass of baileys onto th keyboard of an inspiron 1300, i took the KB off and soaked it in hot soapy water then rinsed it out and left it to dry, worked fine when it was put back on....

I often scrub dirty keyboards in a bath of hot soapy water and leave to dry, makes em nice and clean and they always work.

Alright here s the deal A friend gave me his old Latitude CPi complete with basically everything but the battery He said that he didn t need it anymore and that it worked fine except that the adapter was broken I think someone stepped on it and the piece that connects into the computer broke So I thought quot Hey no big deal replacement adapters are on eBay for like bucks quot So I on Dell refuses to turn D300XT CPi Latitude bought one and tried it out It has been double-checked it IS compatible with this computer The adapter itself seems to work fine as the green light on Dell Latitude CPi D300XT refuses to turn on it will be on if it s plugged into the wall However there is no recognition by the laptop that it is receiving Dell Latitude CPi D300XT refuses to turn on current Dell Latitude CPi D300XT refuses to turn on No lights on the laptop anywhere When I press the on button nothing happens Absolutely nothing My boyfriend and I painstakingly took apart the computer today to make sure there was nothing obviously fixable The on button seems to work fine and I didn t notice any incriminating evidence of overheating or anything like that This brought me to think quot Maybe I just need a battery in the slot quot However the friend that gave me the laptop said he never had one in there and I believe I heard the computer can work directly from the adapter What do you guys think This is very frustrating as I do not have money to purchase a new computer and I was going to use this one for my artwork since people are constantly on the two available computers in this house sigh nbsp

A:Dell Latitude CPi D300XT refuses to turn on

The battery is not required (although it must be used near a power outlet only of course )

If you take the 6 long keyboard screws back out, and then unclip the keyboard from the palm rest (but leave the data cable it plugged in)
Push gently but firmly down on the daughter board that connects directly on to the Motherboard (this board is also screwed in, but can become loose)

Try powering up again

If it still doesn't work you may need to either push a bit harder, or remove the entire palm rest and refit the daughter board (Note: I call it the daughter board but it's probably called something else)

Hi Everyone. I have my new Dell Latitude D620 that i purchased and have recently wiped the hard drive. However, i have now realized that my desktop OS disc is not working to install windows onto my laptop. Are there any other ways to install windows without purchasing 200-300$ software? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Missing Windows OS disc for Dell Latitude D620

If it is a new machine, then you can get a replacement from dell. Just let them know the one you have will not complete the install. If it was purchased from a 3rd party and is used, Find out if it is still covered under warranty. If it is, ask that person to call dell and do a change of ownership. Once there system shows you as owner (or you get the info used when they purchased and/or registered the computer, if you bought from a friend) you should be able to get help from Dell.

Good Luck. Let me know how it turns out.

I have seen several people with the same problem. My daughter received a Dell Latitude C400 from her boss and it was working. Somehow the bios password got set and I cannot resolve it. I have spoken with Dell support and they generated a passwork that did not work. I have also tried to use latitude.exe with the same results. I have read that it will not work with a service code ending in -595B. I have also read that member name removed can get around this problem. Can anyone help.

Service Code #5HCW311-595B
Express Service Code 11933488981

Thanks in advance

I recently acquired a Dell CPi. It worked well for a couple of weeks. One nite I left it plugged in and the next am the power box light was pulsing and the cp was dead. No lights, nothing. Tried almost every thing from taking everything off that could come off to try restart. Just got the new battery for it, the old one didn't hold a charge, and still no lights. Tks for any help. Softy

A:Latitude CPi

Remove the battery and power adapter (ie all power out)
Turn the laptop over and remove the 6 long keyboard screws
Turn it back over, and remove the keyboard (note some clips at the top)
Once the keyboard is out, push down on the daughter board that plugs into the motherboard
place the keyboard back in
Plug in the power adapter only (confirm powered at outlet)
Turn on

Did it work?
If not, you may need to continue deeper
