I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running windows 7 on my laptop. I has windows vista before the upgrade. I had recovery discs for windows vista created from the recovery manager. I tried to make discs for windows 7. I would like to know why it won't let me make a disc for windows 7 because if I had trouble and needed to put in the recovery discs I wouldn't want to use the ones i had for windows vista. what should i do? here are screenshots to show what happens when i try to create the discs for windows 7.

A:Boot Manager Missing/Recovery stalls on Disc 5 - readable on PCs

Without going into the details, it's safe to tell you that with a 5-minute Google exercise, you can easily find websites from which you can purchase a CD that will allow you to BLANK the Admin password on a Windows PC. Once you do that, you can eventually log in as the Administrator and do whatever you want. Not saying they did that; just saying it's not hard to do if you know how. When I used to work in InfoSec, we had a saying "Once they have access to the hardware, they can do anything they want".

As to your problem, if you have Win7 install DVD, you could try booting from it and running Repair to see if it will restore the loader files and repair the BCD.

If you don't have such a DVD, you can purchase the ISO image for a Win7 Repair CD from the link, burn that to a CD, boot from that, and run Startup Repair: Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files

Hello,

Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

BTW, I have a "Spotmau PowerSuite 2008" CD. Just mentioning this in case it might be of some use here. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated

Now I have copied the contents of the recovery drive using linux but am not able to create a bootable recovery disc with that so that I can recover to the original factory settings as I having a problem with many drivers if I install the same OS separately.

So is there any way that I can create a bootable recovery media for my system from that contents of the recovery drive, just copying in a pendrive or DVD isnt serving the purpose.

Hi all

I had this in the wrong section earlier and got no help, so trying again here. I'm trying to create a Recovery disc on a USB pen drive for my laptop (Asus Zenbook), as it doesn't have a CDROM. I'm following the instructions here to create the recovery disc on a USB pen drive. The problem I have is that when I look in the C:\Recovery folder, it looks empty to me. And yes, I have run the command prompt as Administrator. I can't proceed without this step in the process.

Can anyone help?

You would do that by creating an image. Then burn it to a cd.

Do you mean a XP recovery Console cd? or a whole system image?

Does anyone know how to create an ISO from a recovery partition? I'm looking to create a bootable flash drive to install XP on my ASUS 1005HA. (I have Windows 7 starter, but I don't want to pay the 80 bones to upgrade to the full version.) I also have an ASUS 1000HA with XP--and the corresponding recovery partition--that I'd like to use to put XP on the new netbook. Unfortunately, I don't have a USB optical drive (I'm cheap--sue me) and so I need to use the bootable flash drive.

Long story short, I know how to make the bootable flash, but I need an XP recovery ISO to load onto it to allow me to install the OS. Anybody know how I can make one from the recovery partitions?

When you create recovery discs, are they created from the recovery partition that is there to restore to factory settings or some other hidden partition?

I am on Windows 10, and for the past couple months I have had booting/BSOD errors that usually give me "bad_system_config_info" and occasionally, "0xc000021a ". Sometimes, I have been able to boot in by accessing the UEFI settings, other times it seems like it just randomly decides to let me log in to my computer normally. When I am able to login, I check for viruses and I haven't found any, as well as run commands like "sfc/scannow", "chkdsk", or "bootsect".  I am trying to recreate recovery media via the HP Recovery Manager, but each time I insert the empty flashdrive, the Recovery Manager suddenly crashes. Please, any response to these combined issues would be greatly appreciated, I haven't been able to use this laptop regularly for months now.

A:Don't have Recovery partition and Recovery Manager to Reset ...

Hi there @HPian_B,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from the community! I read that you would like to reset your HP Pavilion g6-2310ex Notebook PC to factory settings.  Please read the document called Backing Up Your Files. This will provide you with ways to back up the files you have on your Notebook. Here is a document for you to read called Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive. I pulled some information from the document for you. The first thing I would like to make you aware of is that only DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL discs are compatible with the Recovery Media Creation program. The following disc types are not compatible with the Recovery Media Creation program:CDsDVD-RWDVD+RWDVD-RW DLDVD+RW DLYou will then also see that in the document it says: The Recovery Media Creation software program allows  only one complete set of discs to be created. The Recovery Media Creation software program  requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (Recovery Image (D) to create a set of discs. Uncorrupted means the recovery partition has  not been modified or removed. The creation process takes about 30 minutes per DVD. The entire recovery set does not need to be created in one session. The Recovery Media Creation software can be aborted at any time, except during the writing (burning) process, by clicking  Cancel. The next time the Recovery Media Creation software program is run, it automatically starts where it last stopped. You can use the recovery discs you create on your computer on another computer only if the second computer is the same model as the one that created the recovery discs. Here is a document called Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) and another called Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using Microsoft Windows Backup and Restore. - This is used to Recover, Restore, or do a Clean Install of Windows 7.  Please make sure that you read these documents very carefully before you decided to reset to factory settings.  Thanks for being a part of the HP community. Please let me know if this helps resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution". If you require further assistance let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help. Please also re-post with the exact error message you received. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me a Kudos. Thanks!Have a great day

I found away past it. Just close the window with the "X". Don't hit retry or it will just keep starting over. The box will appear a few more times during the process, but just keep hitting X and it should go through. Worked for me! I'm not sure if there are features or files missing because of the errors, but the system seems to work fine so far.

Hi all
I heard that Vista has its own recovery manager to create recover disc.
I was looking through all of my files and could not find and I couldn't find it. I found back up option which I don't think is the same.
Reason for this is that my Vista CD is behind a furniture that I can not be bothered to move and get it. It has been there for last three months.
So I want to create recover disc....
I will use some of image creation software and create images but until i save some money to buy Western Digital TB external USB HD I need recovery disc.
I am not sure if I am allowed to mention this here but there are a lot of torrent offering recovery disc for Vista 32 and 64. Are they OK to use or creating recovery disc from within Vista itself is better option.

At one point, MS was going to include this in Vista SP1, but they pulled it from the release.

Hi there,  Do you not have Recovery discs? How did you previously load Windows 7 on your Notebook? The media creation software allows only  one system image to be created. If you created a set of recovery discs, you can not create a system image on a USB drive. The media creation software requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (FACTORY_IMAGE D. Uncorrupted means that the recovery partition has  not been modified or removed. That being said, at this point, I cannot guarantee that the image will work on your USB.

Hello world I just got a new laptop with Win bit home premium and that's all good that this OS came installed on there and I'm using it but for my teaching activities I'll need to get into some Linux OS in a multiboot configuration So I will want to eventually need to be able to fix this when the HD fails well because we Q:, disc, UEFI, recovery disc Questions: partition, restore install know that ALL HDs will eventually fail right So this Questions: UEFI, restore partition, Q:, install disc, recovery disc is a 'remanufactured' ASUS K A and the one piece of paper that came with it says the HD has been reformatted and there is no recovery partition so I should promptly make up a recovery DVD set which I did DVDs So I used the disk management to shrink the C down to it's minimum like Gb due to what it said was some files that could not be moved That's probably OK Then I deleted the D and made a new D of about Gb which leaves the unassigned space all looking to be contiguous like Gb In looking on there I see the UEFI partition of Mb which is cool and then there are these two mysterious partitions a Gb recovery partition with no listing of it's filesystem nor any drive letter hanging out in the never never land and not in the early leftmost part of the disc and there is this protected Q drive that apparently has MS office on it 'in case' I want to buy it There is the 'reduced with ads' MS office already working and that is all I would ever want In reading up I see there is a lot of headache going around with Win and UEFI but I believe that UEFI is a good thing for me wanting to run multiple OS and I don't have the problems that Win is causing but with Win bit I do have UEFI so this should work out in my favor But as of right now the Linux distros are playing catch up on the UEFI thing so momentarily things are in patch-around land Am I right on this deduction What should I do about this restore partition which it says is free I don't think I really have any interest in using it as there is probably not an advantage for me once I have got a bunch of OS successfully loaded and running It looks like it won't delete What about this Q drive which it says is protected and contains bytes and is not visible in the Computer Management gt Disc Management Is this the area of C that could not be moved when I shrunk it down Is it being used when I run the 'reduced with ads' MS office Again I don't have any interest in buying MS Office like ever So I have this DVD set which will put my computer back like it was although I will never really want that because it will eventually mean reinstalling like all the other OS I put on there after I install them The last computer I bought came with two disc one was a Windows install disc and the other one had all the drivers for that Gateway laptop I used them once after a Trojan horse attack from a radical Hawaiian website ate my OS it took ALL DAY to reinstall XP There was also a 'boot floppy' that I think I might have used So I really need to get the equivalent of those three isn't that right How do I do it So the big question involves all those issues I think really This UEFI is a necessity for bit OS but it has the capability to boot up to OS and represents a much needed evolution over MBR So I would really not want to go back to that older paradigm but it looks like everyone who is multi-booting with Linux is having problems using UEFI right now There is this EasyBCD but I don't think that is really on board with UEFI just right now either So it looks like everyone is chainloading and patching around with both MBR and UEFI and grub or grub or whatnot What's my best option wait for things to get better Microsoft got it right with Win bit and then things went off course with Win right thanks so much - PJ

A:Questions: UEFI, restore partition, Q:, install disc, recovery disc

Hi PJ,

You covered several areas, so I'll start with some suggestions:

1. Since you already burnt (and checked?) the recovery DVD's, that recovery partition is no longer required, so you can remove it. Everything you need to restore the computer back to its factory state will be contained on those 4 x DVD's - store them safely.

2. For the Linux distro's, given that this is a UEFI boot, I would run them in a virtual machine using either free VirtualBox or free VMWarePlayer (my personal preference is for the latter).
Linux - Install on Windows 7 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox

3. If you never plan on using Office, uninstall it, then remove the Q: partition.

You should also consider a clean OEM install at some point - it gets rid of all the bloatware that the OEM's come with:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Lastly, keep this handy if you choose to clean install under UEFI:
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

A:Boot Disc, Recovery Disc, Frisbee Disc

1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?Boot disk vs recovery disk. Let me see if I can phrase that in a way that makes some sense.A recovery disc is a generic term for the disk or media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a specified condition of a computer as configured by the original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media is sometimes shipped with some computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped. This is not as common a practice today as it was in the past. I won't confuse the issue, but google recovery partition for more information.A boot disk is a removable data storage medium, i.e. DVD or flash drive from which a computer can load and run 'boot' an operating system or utility program. The computer must have an installed program or application which will load and execute a program or application from the boot disk. This will enable you to boot an otherwise unusable machine to be able to troubleshoot the OS or non-working application as necessary.Hope that gives you a better idea of the difference. As to how to create a boot disk? I will let more knowledgeable staff or members assist you.

Hello I'm wanting to  complete a factory restore (reinstall operating systems, app's and personal doc's) to clean & freshen-up my desktop computer.  With that in mind, I went to create a set of recovery disks (with original factory software) and was told I've made a set of disc's in the past.  The system only lets you make one copy.  The only disc's I can locate are labled "reapair" ... are these the same as "recovery"  ??? Any constructive feedback would be appreciated. Blessings XTC

For the first week or two using windaow 7 on my new computer, a little balloon regularly poped up saying do you want to make a recovery disc, if so you will need 3 dvd's, anyway, i want to do this now but the balloon doesnt ask me anymore, so I did as follows,

•In Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Backup and Restore
•In the left pane, click Create a system recovery disk
•Insert a blank CD in the DVD, and then click Create Disk

But this only took 1 dvd, not three like it originaly told me, have I done the right think, or is there another way I can create one using the 3 dvd's?

A:is a recovery disc and repair disc the same thing?

It sounds like you made a "System Repair Disk." This will let you make some repairs for which you would normally use an installation DVD--for example, repairing the boot manager as I did yesterday. Also, if you "create a system image" and some day find your hard drive is trashed you can boot to the System Repair Disk and re-image the hard drive from your saved system image. Personally I use Macrium Reflect Free for this, as I don't quite trust that Microsoft got this right their first try.

You can use the Recovery partition to "recover" your system to the way it was when you first turned it on. That is, as long as the special boot manager is not damaged and the hard drive is not inoperable. So, it's best to make your one legal set of Recovery disks--the 3 DVDs required for Windows 7. You may think that you will do the system image mentioned above and not need this, but it's cheap insurance to make the DVDs. If and when you decide to sell, gift or donate the computer it would be good to 'Recover" it to factory defaults and hand the new owner the Recovery disks.

This feature--to create the 3 DVD Recovery set--will probably be "hidden" in some of the stuff your laptop manufacturer installed, and probably not found through Control Panel.

You may have some sketchy paper documentation with this info, or can find it on the manufacturer's web site, or if you tell us the brand somebody may have the answer.

What type of recovery disk is this?

If its a factory recovery disk - You probably have to actually boot from the CD. So you'll have to enter the BIOS and change the boot order to boot the CD drive before the HDD.

Hi there,

I have purchased VAIO some 3 years ago with Vista 32 bit pre installed. Sometime ago I have installed Win 7 64 bit in my VAIO but because it has originally 32 bit OS on the laptop, vaio support site for my Model couldn't offer 64 bit drivers so I had to do lot of hard work and found all from various places.

Now my problem is as I do not want to search all the 64 bit drivers again if in case of system failure, I was looking to create kind of recovery disc so that I can install/recover complete system in one installation with every single thing working as of now. Can someone please guide me which is the best way doing this? It would be good creating recovery disc as it comes with new laptops.

When I purchased my HP laptop a few months ago, I backed up the system on DVD-Rs.
Can I now empty the recovery partition on the C drive and free up more space?
If so, how do I do this?
Warnerc

A:recovery disc

I would not suggest that you delete the recovery partition. What if the recovery dvds dont work? Granted there are ways to clean install win7, but unless you're desperate for hdd space, just leave that recovery partition alone.

If you still want to delete it, you can do so from the advanced options in the HP recovery manager that comes preinstalled. Take a look here.

To make a long story short, my computer crashed a month ago. I took it in to get fixed, and he ended up putting a new hard drive into my computer. He only loaded, windows. I don't have anything else on my computer, and can't even get my recovery disc to work, it just gives me a blank screen with a cursor that doesn't move, or do anything. My DVD drive won't work either. I cant' get it to open. I am frusterated. I downloaded windows 98 update, and that is when I started not being able to use my disc drives. My printer will also not work every time. It is a HP officejet R40xi. My warrenty is up on my computer. ANY help would GREATLY be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Without a recovery disc what can I do to erase the frozen hard drive on my Windows XP. Also the computer tower was built by a third party so there isn't a specific brand. How do I go about recovering?

A:No Recovery Disc-?

"Recovery" is a word that applies to pre-built computers, such as Dell, HP, etc.... The recovery data, if it is not on a disk from the factory, is saved in a (usually) hidden partition on the HD, and you can access this data to do a "Recovery" (or "Restore") by a keystroke on boot. Dells I think are F11, others might be the F2 key.

If you format the drive and destroy the partition, you will lose all your recovery data, and will need to either get one from the manufacturer or by a retail copy of XP.

If the system is NOT pre-built, then the PID (Product ID) should help you to identify which type of O/S reinstallation disk you need. If the PID is valid (meaning legal) you can reinstall with any compatible disk, as it is the license that is sold (and protected) and not the data itself.

You'll need to know:

Either XP Home or XP Pro
Either Upgrade, OEM or Retail
Either SP0, SP1, SP2, SP3
Windows Media Center Edition, and if so, which version.

Hi,
I recently bought myself a new computer, a Medion 8828 which included a recovery disc.
Now, I'm thinking of putting the OS on my new, external HD, but is it possible to use the included recovery disc, or will it only willing to install on the existing, internal HD? I am willing to make the external HD the C-drive.

The reason for wanting to do this, is because my father bought the same, exact computer, and it would be cool to insert my disc and thereby make it like my own computer, is this even possible?

Thanks,
Jonas

i have a home built system with vista ultimate. i am trying to create recovery discs! there is no recovery manager, what r my options?

A:recovery disc help

Hello Ripzx, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since you do not have a OEM (store bought) brand computer (ex: Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.....) from looking at your system specs, you will not have a OEM recovery manager type program installed.

Instead, you can create a recovery disc from Vista to use to only repair Vista with and not be able to reinstall Vista with though.

If this is not what you meant, then please clarify.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

A:Recovery Disc from a new PC

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. Its several years old, but when I first got it I created the recovery media (discs). The discs are supposed to allow restoring, even if you have a hard drive failure. I don't think it will include the recovery partition.

If you want to make a backup that contains all the partitions on the hard drive, a program such as Macrium Reflect is needed to make a "backup" of the entire hard drive to either another hard drive or possibly USB media.

Do i just insert the disc 1 by 1 and run them?

or is there a proper way of doing it? Any help will be much appreciated. thank you in advance.

A:How do i use recovery disc?

Hello Technetic,

If you mean for OEM factory recovery discs, then it really depends on what brand and model your laptop is. If you could post back with what brand you have, I'll be happy to see if I may be able to find detailed instructions for this for you.

Typically, you would boot from the 1st recovery disc to start the factory restore of Windows 7 though.

Sounds like the process where you duplicate the contents of the recovery partition on DVD in case the hard disk goes. It's provided by the system builder (HP, Dell, etc) and not part of Windows per say.

If its a DVD it won't boot in a UEFI BIOS with SecureBoot. Dell Technical Support should have sent USB Recovery Media. You can rollback to Windows 8.1 by going to settings → Update and Security → Recovery → Go Back to Windows 8.1
You can alternatively Download Windows 8.1 with Update 1 installation media:
