I plug data cord into the SATA 2 slot. When I turned on the computer the drive sshowed up that it was only 746.39GB. Does my mother board model MS-7613 (lona-GL8E) support a 3TB Sata HD. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have an expansion slot, and I was wondering what goes in there? I know it's a stupid question, but I never hear much about it.
I have a shared PCI/ISA slot on my MB. What (or better how) can I use this slot? I want to add a NIC for DSL but all my PCI's are in use by Firewire, SCSI, and sound cards? Can I use this shared slot for the NIC or swap out one of my others and use them in the shared??
Thanks for any help!
well, most PCI cards sohuld play nice nice with the shared slot. But i'm not to sure abuot that. I'm not sure if the sound card would like it though. You can probably just put the NIC in there
Just remember, i could be wrong.
Hi, when i uprgrade the ram, i see on MB a expsansion slot, is a msata o a mini pcie? i want to put a ssd here if is possible. thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/question-on-expansion-slot-on-Mb/td-p/5835240
The PCI card (Adaptec 29160N RAID) is 32-bit but the expansion slot on the motherboard (Super Micro P4DPR-6GM+) is 64-bit 66MHz PCI (3.3V). The card's POST doesn't show up during boot. Is this because it's 32-bit and the slot is 64-bit?
What size are the screws for PC expansion slots? Are they 6-32 x 1/4"?

Do you guy knew if Dell E7250 is able to install ADDITIONAL ssd in M.2 Expansion Slots?
In the specification it's show there are free M.2 slot for WWAN or SSD.
If it's support what SSD M.2 model should i but 2242?
The additional slot referenced is in the E-dock expansion adapter - NOT the system. The system takes only one internal M.2 drive.
If you have (or purchase) the E-dock port adapter, you'll have the additional M.2 slot.

Ok, Sorry looking up the model at Kingston and a couple other sites didn't show your computer and seeing I hadn't seen any I was confused. Based on what I have found maybe a Model from other country. With that said it looks like it comes with 2gig DDR3L Ram and is Upgradable to 8Gig Also looks like yours comes With 1 PCI Express x16 Slot. I am not sure with the PSU and with that slot if you would be able to upgrade to a different Graphics Card. GPU and size of case would put a huge limit on what could be able to fit... There's a small expansion slot labelled PCIE1x1 next to the longer slot in which I've installed a graphics card. What can the smaller one be used for? Can it for example hold an SSD? Thanks,Tom
Go to Solution.
OK, Yes that is the one that I was Refering to... There was some boards that could connect to that slot I don't see any ATM but they were non Controller systems Plug in and some would be found. Some wouldn't So I think they have done away with them... One with a Controller like the one in my picture here.... Can be used for SDD and also an extra HDD off it as well. They have others that are just SSD and some that have 2 spaces for SSD on the card but may not work for your space as they are longer cards. There are also some that offer SSD, SATA and exta ESata out the back... It is all up to what you want and how much you like to spend.http://community.acer.com/t5/Aspire-Desktops/TC-705-EB53-expansion-slot-question/td-p/411193/jump-to/first-unread-message

Ok so, I fried my motherboard a while back and am just now getting an Abit barebone kit with a brand new motherboard and was wondering whether my DDR RDIMM will work in the new DDR2 RIMM memory expansion slots?

I ve got several excellent computer cases and a tight-fit on a PC system desk setup Typical problem is most all the PC quot connections quot to it are on the quot back quot amp on the expansion slot panel all jacks amp connectors are Ind standard As you ve probably figured out from my long Title above - I don t know what these extension arrays are actually called I have seen them usually threaded inside the PC case from the back or Mobo to the front Not knowing the correct omundo name for these things has made googling for um a lot harder What i d like is to extend the connections for at least all my Graphics card Audio in out jacks - and rear USB connections up to the front of the machine where they should be on all machines in the first place Actually Other than things like the NIC card and A C I d just as soon move quot all quot the quot user access quot connectors up front to the top the side where ever they would be actually quot accessable quot I m just tired of having to stand PC cable slot) case (expansion extension array on my head - with a flash light in hand - tangled in wires that i m not looking for - i m sure lots of you have been there Any ideas where I can find these things or a correct NAME for um I ll buy them individually if PC case (expansion slot) extension cable array i have to or a harness PC case (expansion slot) extension cable array with all the extended connections on it would be Ok with me Video connections extended up front might also be nice but with xVGA S-Video and a HDMI out really don t cause that much climbing over in the back Thanks guys GerryH nbsp
Usually, newer motherboards have extra headers for connecting
the front panel connections.
Afraid graphics and network usually don't have header extensions,
but something like this can get audio/usb firewire up front.
You need to find one to match the headers.
USB is standard but audio can be standard or HD.
I want to add an expansion card to a new Tower 3620. I can get the box open to access to chassis just fine, but how does this black plastic cover on the expansion slots work. Looks like it's designed to make it easy to pop open all the slots at once, but it's way to clever for me to figure out. Hand me the big pliers!
When all else fails, read the manual (page 18-19).http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19984217

@Dr_Saiful?, welcome to the forum. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the computer. Beginning on Page 26 you will find the Workstation Specifications. In the specs it says that two video cards can be used as long as the required wattage is no more than 150W. I suspect that you may be exceeding the wattage of your power supply unit (PSU). Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Expansion-slot-for-graphic-Card-for-HP-Z220-CMT-Workstation/td-p/5693636
It's an external hard drive 1Tb and goes with a separate cord power adapter. Here is how i'm using it : I keep the USB port plugged in, when i use it i plug in the adapter to power it up, when i'm done I unplug the cord power adapter only. I use it once a week or 2 weeks, only for backup and store data. Is that good or I should plug the cord power in all the time ? THanks GUys
I've been researching motherboards, and I've been eyeing some nice SLi boards (two x16 PCI-E slots), though I HIGHLY doubt I'd ever install two video cards.
The extra x16 slot would be nice, but most MoBo manufacturers sacrifice at least one x1 and/or PCI slot in the process. But if they start making cards other than video to use the spare x16 slot, I don't want to end up wishing I hadn't sacraficed an x16 for a more lowly x1 or PCI slot (btw: I need at least two and preferably three).
I have found plenty of PCI-E x1 cards, so the x1 slots appear to be more useful "at the moment".
So my question is, does anyone make anything else that plugs into a PCI-E x16 slot, or is it like an AGP slot in that it's good for nothing but video?
I'm not aware of PCI-X 16 slots used for anything other than video. The bandwidth seems enormous. I am curious if these slots will be used in the future for data transfer like a parallel bus.
I took my 3Tb out of it's external case and put it into my computer and it didn't show up so I put it back and it looked like my data was gone!
I tried a couple programs to get it back because they said the drive was empty or something.
I gave up and now I'm trying to get everything back again but the drive won't show up in windows 8 but my other one days and I'm using the same cords and everything.
It also boots up.
It looks like taking it out of the case makes it show up in diskaprt.exe now and I'm trying to recover the files with segate recoveryhttp://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/334050-seagate-expansion-3tb-data-recovery-not-showing-up-anymore.html

Hi, I recently decided to install my old Sims 1 games on to my computer which is Windows 7 and brand new so it should have no problems running them. Anyway, Sims 1 installed fine and I played that for a bit just to test it. There were no problems at all, so I decided to install the rest. I popped in the disk for Livin' It Up (UK version of Livin' Large) but I keep getting an error message when I try to install. This is what it says:
Error extracting support files.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
The install wizard gets to about 80% before it pops up with this. I've tried running in compatibility mode and running as administrator. Can anyone please help?
It looks like two instances of the installation are clashing with one another.
Run the installation, replicate the problem then open up your Task Manager - You'll see the setup program running under the Applications tab. Right click the setup application and click 'go to process', this will highlight the setup process under the Processes tab. If there is any other instances of the process running it will be under the exact same process name.
If this is the case end one of them.
If not, it is another process is already running the expansion and the expansion itself is likely trying to repeat the execution. It might help to attempt to install it under Safe Mode (if this is possible). F8 is the key to boot in safe mode.
I hope this works for you.
Up until yesterday my 3G card was working fine, then plugged it in and nothing, no lights just dead, tried two other cards and they don't work either. Yet in another laptop they all work fine. Nothing has been installed or changed.
I've looked at 'My System' .....device manager and everything seems fine.
Any ideas on the problem??

My daughters HP laptop power plug is fried and can't get power to turn on. I would like to get her music and pictures off of the hard drive and put on my Apple laptop. How can I transfer this information without putting the hard drive in another computer? I'm new to site and novice at computer repair but would like to do this myself, if possible. Thanks.
If you are unwilling to remove the hard drive, you will have to get power to the laptop somehow. What do you mean by '...power plug is fried...'? Is it the socket in the laptop that got fried or is it the external power cord/power supply? Do you know someone who has access to an identical machine that you could use the power cord from and/or get your battery charged on their laptop so that you could run the laptop long enough to get the files off?
I'm trying to transfer data from my old pc to my new laptop using USB 2.0 cable, A male to A male, but when connected neither computer detected each other...

You might well have damaged your usb ports by doing that, you need a proper usb transfer cable to do the job properly, see link

Cisco reported in a blog post from its Security Intelligence and Research arm that two major flaws have been discovered in 7-Zip that have ramifications for antivirus and security products.
First is CVE-2016-2335, a flaw whereby 7-Zip doesn't check whether a partition is 'out of bounds' when reading Universal Disk Format files, which, if misused, could allow crims to execute remote code.
"Both of these 7-Zip vulnerabilities resulted from flawed input validation. Because data can come from a potentially untrusted source, data input validation is of critical importance to all applications’ security.
"Talos has worked with 7-Zip to responsibly disclose, and then patch, these vulnerabilities. Users are urged to update their vulnerable versions of 7-Zip to the latest revision, version 16.00, as soon as possible."
UDF and heap overflow... wow. Surprised they didn't sanitize their data properly till just now.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/613912/7-zip-vulnerabilities-prompt-security-scramble-to-plug-data-leaks/

Follow the installation directions that come with it.
But fans are usually Case Fans.Theres holes to screw them to.
One again : Read your motherboard manual. pci slots are for devices like
sound cards(not fans)
I re-nstall windows 8.1 on a desktop the back up drive is not showing up now. It had virus on t download drivers for seagate that should have worked nothing. Prmary drvie is ok ... the backup seagate drive not showing up. any help grateful. Thanks Juan
The problem may be the USB controller itself, go to Device Manager and make sure all of your devices are installed including the USB controller and the Chipset Drivers, realistically any external USB drive will work as long as the local USB controller works.
Can i install a AGP 2x Video Card Into a Agp 1x slot ??
They're supposed to be backwards compatible, so the answer should be yes. I have seen some newer motherboards that only accept the 1.5v AGP cards, so they wouldn't function with older AGP cards, but that's not your situation.

You can verify by testing the drive on another computer.
I have installed a new hard drive on to my computer. It's an SATA drive and yes it shows up in the bios, and when I am installing windows. However it wont boot after I've installed windows. The only way it works is if I have an IDE drive installed. Thats unacceptable. The seagate website is useless. I installed the motherboard drivers and it still wont boot with the ide drive. I am at my wits end and am ready to throw the drive out the window. Pls help.
Lol, sorry to hear about your problems. Make sure that your SATA is in your boot sequence (in bios). This way it detects your sata drive as a bootable device. If you already have it set up this way, check for any BIOS Updates from the MOBO manufacturer. Make sure to backup your bios before you flash your bios though.
I am running windows me.... When i plug in my Segate expansion portable drive, explorer doesn't show it, but I know that my computer knows it's plugged in because when i click on the eject hardware button at the bottom of the monitor, it shows up in the unplug menu. Can anyone give me some kind of idea if i am missing a file or something, or how i can get explorer to recognize this portable drive?

well i found out why it wasnt shutting down, segate is not ending the drivers services when windows is shutting down, i booted the drive in linux and it shows that it is constantly trying to perform actions even though it is fully loaded. so next question, drive, or drivers?
I'm having problems after moving my GC to a higher slot on my Asus z87 sabertooth motherboard
You might know the card is quite big ,when i built it i installed it in the slot which was just above the PSU.
So, to give the fans more breathing space i move it.
now when it boots theres no card and it installs the standard VGA drivers.
Nothing in device manager or anything
Any ideas pls??
I thought of a bios reset or maybe a fresh install?
Do you think these might help??
Hi Gaz, ideally any gpu should be installed in the top slot, is this the slot it is in now?
You could try re-seating the card to make sure it is definitely located correctly.
Yes you could also try resetting the bios. I would not bother with a clean install of windows though as I doubt that would change anything.

If i plugin the drive it is detected by win7 and everything works. However next time i start the pc the drive isn't detected any more. I then have to unplug the drive do a re start and plug in again and the drive will be detected. However this is a pain to do each time. The Renesas electronic s usb 3.0 root hub is always missing from the device manager on start up. I have tried everything to fix and updating the driver for the usb but no luck. Also if i do a re boot while the drive is still plug in it will take longer for the windows to load even though the drive isn't still detected.
Hmm, on my motherboard usb 3 is not native and like yours it uses renesas drivers. It is possible that it needs the windows drivers to load before being able to detect. (just a guess here)
Would it get detected if you scan for hardware changes in device manager? Try that please.
Hey, recently i lent my harddrive to my brother so he could get some files off of me and when i got it back whenever i try and do anything on the drive i get a drwatson error and everything closes explorer too, the error is ... 0x0000000 i believe not sure at the moment if anybody can give me a hand or let me know what you info you need to fix that would be great

I installed x64 XP pro on it like 2 years back, my current HD is full, I just bought a new Power Supply with Sata hookup and realized i could hook up the Hard drive off my old machine. Id like to use it as my primary device, but would still like to be able to access the OS on this hard drive.
The HD is connected, data and power, I can access the drive (G via Explorer, but pressing f8 during start up does not show x64 xp under OS options.
If i can get 64 bit windows running is it possible that i can get a full 2 gigs of ram working on my machine? instead of the 1.5 im currently only able to use?
I have got an external segate hard drive that connected to my laptop through USB cable, I doubt that there is a problem, then I decided to test it by using : Segate seatool utility (windows version not dos version) that I have downloaded from segate site.
I can see the external hard drive :
But the test option is unavailable!!!!
Is there any other utility that can test such a USB connected HD or any other barnd ?
I knew that we can connect faulty hard disk directly to the mother and then run the test from CD or floppy, but this is not feasible in my case
I am pretty sure that Western Digital's Diagnosis program will be able to do it. If you get an errors, however, the drive is most likely bad. http://support.wdc.com/download/?cxml=n&pid=999&swid=3

My opinion ...
Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.
The motherboard has onboard sound (RealtekŪ ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

I'm using Windows Professional bit with an ASUS P H -M PRO motherboard I'm trying to install an ASUS HD video card I've tried both the drivers on the CD that came with the card and the latest version from ASUS's website When I use the CD the error is quot Driver Install the installation failed quot When I install the drivers via Device Manager the error is quot The operation returned because the timeout period expired quot It takes about minutes to attempt to install during which time nothing is happening according to Task Manager The card does function with the quot Video Controller VGA Compatible quot drivers but obviously not very well REDACTED See below My quot Windows Experience Index quot is now instead of with my onboard video I upgraded because the new card supports higher resolution I don't see any visual difference perhaps because this computer is never used for gaming Is this a problem Thanks PianoGuy
What happens when the card is in the pci-e slot and you turn on the machine ?
Does windows attempt to install drivers ?
i'm running on windows xp sp3. when i connect my ipod, my computer detect it and new hardware found pop up. when i tried to install it said no driver installed. i read on the user manual it said it was a plug and play device. no cd driver was provided. before i format my laptop, my laptop did self install the ipod.
Has it ever worked on this computer? Does it work on another computer? Do you have another USB cable or USB port to connect it with?
I purchased this off Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5789642746 and was told that i wouldnt need drivers, windows XP should have them already. Well i get it and plug it into my computer, and it says that it has found new hardware, so the window pops up, then it asks me where to search for drivers. Isnt it supposed to just install it on its own? Anyways, i tell it to look over the internet and on the drivers CD(for windows 98) that it came with. It does some searching and then says that it cannot find the drivers to install the device. So im stuck, when i try to open any software that came with the disc it says "Device not connected!" ...i dont know what to do, ive tried all 6 USB ports, my windows XP is up to date, can anyone help?
Hello Solved: Play Plug not device install and Automatic will I am hoping someone here might have some thoughts on what could cause a self-installing USB device to fail I am running Windows XP Pro SP I purchased a Mint wireless USB device This device requires no software The USB device is supposed to automatically install when you plug it into a USB port However rather than seeing the System Tray messages that it found new hardware and then installs the hardware I am getting the Found New Hardware Wizard It is looking for an inf file for the USB device but the driver file does not exist and there is no place to direct the wizard I tried rebooting but the problem still exists I tried reading the user guide for this product and looking at the FAQs but my problem was not described I contacted the tech support people but they only came up with a series of steps to try that did not work So now I am wondering if there is some device setting or registry setting that is preventing me from self-installing this device I have not changed any settings on my system and I have never experienced this problem with any other device I also tried switching to different USB ports with the same effect Can anyone help Thanks Elizabeth K nbsp

Looks like you have installed the microsoft driver version first instead of using the cd that came with the printer.
Do a complete uninstall of the printer:
- Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the printer if it's in the list
- Go to device manager and delete the printer from the list
- Go to Start - Printers (assuming you got XP)
- Click File-Server Properties-Drivers
- Delete the printer
Make sure printer is plugged in to your pc
Insert the printer driver cd and reboot machine
Once rebooted, you will see the microsoft hardware wizard come up wanting to install the printer
Click CANCEL (DO NOT install using this)
Run setup from your cd
It should install all the necessary drivers from the cd

i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?
The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.
You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.
Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?
ok the lady I got this comp from says the comp the video card its reading now is not as good as the one in the PCI slot so Im wondering how do I make it so it reads the PCI slot
The AGP vid card though comes out with a Adaptor to make it so you can plug in moniters
Anyway Should I leave my moniter plug in the AGP slot video card or put it where no video card is but goes right into the computer
and no there is no plug that goes into the PCI slot
I hope this is understanable

That's known as integrated graphics, now do you have a PCI video card and an APG video card or an Integrated video card and an AGP card?
Also what are they Radeon xxxx? or Nvidia xxxx? we need to know the model numbers to tell you which is the better on to use.
i have had trouble with my computer after cleaning it (can of compressed air) it would boot to log in screen then go black on the monitor or it would blue screen and restart.
after figuring out it was a RAM problem i tried another stick of RAM but same problem so i guess its the actual slot it goes into, i only have 2 on my motherboard lucky one of them is working still.
has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it, i am wondering if some of the canned air/gas became a liquid from spraying to close and got in it.
any help would be appreciated thanks.
ok so i have been looking into my problem more, when booting i press tab to show the POST?? or somthing and it says that 1 of the RAMs wouldnt/couldnt R/W (read write?? i dont know)
then i get the screen saying that windows has had hardware changes and asking to how i want to start windows (normal, safe mode, etc) i have tried all but it just restarts.
now its only with 1 of the 2 dimm slots this happens and i have tried differend RAM in there but only the 1 slot works
any help would be appreciated
This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past years of using computers I have an Acer Aspire - laptop that came with windows but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and won't mouse USB slot USB first other in works any slot, in only work but USB downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot it will refuse to work in the other USB slots I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer USB which is my favorite mouse and I USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot have of them at home When I was formatting the laptop USB mouse only works in first USB slot, but won't work in any other USB slot I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in If I plug it into the other usb slots the red laser will come on which means it's getting power but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything When I have the Device Manager open and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer mouse into the first USB slot the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab However when plugging the mouse into the other usb slots the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer ' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab I could just go about my business using the first usb slot for the mouse but this little strange problem is pissing me off hugely as I might want to switch the mouse to another USB slot based on how I have the laptop positioned on a desk or other surface I should also note that the 'Human Interface Devices' tab has a 'HID compliant device' entry in it that isn't present on my desktop computer and my mouse works on any of the usb slots on my desktop computer I wonder if this is the problem I tried disabling this entry but it doesn't help any A final point to note is that I have many other usb devices such as flash memory sticks camera card readers external harddrives gps devices and they all work perfectly fine no matter which usb slot they are plugged into Very strange indeed Is there anyway to make my mouse work in any of the other USB slots
I have seen a similar problem, but it was all USB ports that weren't working.
First, check the BIOS to make sure all USB ports are enabled, which they probably are.
Are all drivers installed and up to date? Do any yellow question marks or exclamation points show up in Device Manager?
Hey guys just found this forum and was hoping you could help No plug and play USB devices will work Just poking around looks like somehow all of my native USB drivers have been deleted Asks me to either find the drivers for the device or plug in a CD or else the install fails and since the items are plug devices native for plug and wont Windows install drivers play and play there isnt a CD Also for example on my keyboard its plug and play should be quot HID Keyboard quot but if I plug it into a different port and install it as such it says it wont work The only things that are USB that still work with my computer are my old items that I ve had plugged into the same ports for months If i change the port the same thing happens Oh and if I m in the Bios everything seems to work fine But unfortunately I havnt found a way to make the Bios control all USB devices my quot Windows wont install native drivers for plug and play devices Universal Serial Bus Controllers quot area in Windows wont install native drivers for plug and play devices my native driver selection area is empty nbsp
I verified the PSU is good.
I removed all drives, all cards, even memory.
All the fans spin for a moment then nothing they stop.
I assume the MB is now destroyed? A GTX 260 has two 6 pin power connectors, since the PSU only had one 6 pin power connector, I thought to try it.
MB is Asus P5QC
So is it dead?
Did you read the GTX 260 manual to see if it has to have the two connectors on?
This is an old MB, so it has a story. Tell us how did you get it and what memory, GPU etc it has before.
With no memory it won't boot. Do you have a speaker connected to the MB so you can hear the beeps when you turn it on?
Witch power supply you have? GTX 260 requires 500W as minimum.

I want to replace ps/2 plug of my keyboard which has five wires named yellow, grey, red, black and open wires, with usb plug having four wires coloured red, green, white and black. when I connect them just by hit n try method, computer say usb device not recognized
USB keyboards are so cheap now it seems a waste of time going that route. Plus you can get a ps/2 to USB adapter that is even cheaper
I have an external hard drive Seagate backup plus 1 tb working fine with Sony vaio E15136 win 8.1 64 bit 4gb Ram. As long as I change the power supply i.e either plug in or plug out the power supply of my laptop, external drive is re-detected.
The external drive draws power from laptop. No external power source.
In case of USB pen drives this thing didn't happen.
Looking for any solution or explanation?
yah just a question, and if so give me a price range please for a pci
You can't add a slot to a motherboard.
How old is this computer that it doesn't have a PCI slot? Those have been around for quite a while. Are you sure it doesn't have one? Even AGP is not new technology.
EDIT: After seeing your other thread, are you asking if you can purchase an AGP or PCI video card? That's a totally different question, and the answer would be yes depending on which slot your motherboard has. How much it costs depends on what you plan to use the computer for. A simple one is cheap, and high-end gaming cards can get expensive.

So currently I have my PC connected to the printer with a USB cable and my 10 year old printer works just fine. I'm turning my desktop into a wireless desktop for the time being and going to install a WiFi pci card in the tower. Once I get my computer connected online wireless. So if I take the printer USB cable from the back of the PC tower and plug it into the back of the router will the printer work right away or do I have to setup the printer within the routers 192.... page ? or will I have to install any extra router software programs on the PC to get the printer to work ? I'm just wondering what my steps will be.
It really depends on your router. Some routers do have that functionality and are "smart" enough to realize what to do with a printer attached via USB ports. Some may require you to configure it on the router's setup, and others may not let you network your printer at all that way. You should probably count yourself lucky if your router does it at all... my router has USB ports, but they're basically only good for charging a phone... they planned a firmware update to do more with them, but it never came through.
The most foolproof way to network a printer is to get a model with an Ethernet port or a Wi-Fi card built into the printer that's just designed for networking. Any computer on the network will then "see" the printer and be able to install drivers for it without the router having to be smart. Failing that, you might have to plug the printer's USB cable into a computer of some kind... but the catch is, it doesn't have to be very powerful or large. A $5 Pi Zero or a $30 "print server" off Newegg would do the job. Basically, any old computer lying around with USB ports could most likely work as a print server if it can be configured with CUPS and the appropriate version of Samba.
I have an almost fresh install of xp on my desktop and want to avoid cluttering the hard drive with stuff to slow it down. One of the things I have noticed is that media players seem to reproduce like rabbits...media player comes with windows...then some website will say that it can't live without having real player installed...and then another one...my favorite is VLC...and of course, itunes....
I noticed that there is a plug-in to make Firefox work with VLC I think there are also other plug-ins for other media players as well. What exactly do these things do? If I have the plug-in do I have to install the software? Do they improve the ease of use of the media player? the quality of the sound? do they reduce the cpu load?
Media plugins allow the browser to play audio and video files in different formats on websites.
They are not all in use at the same time (just called on when needed by a website's embedded media player), so they don't slow down your computer or fill up your hard drive.
Hi, everyone, I am Jim and I am a new students in colledge. This computer is my first personal laptop. However, I will participant a exchange plan to HongKong for several months. The socket there can only provide inch plug, so I prepare a conversion plug. However, I found that the conversion plug usually does not work. So I need to tie it or reinstall it to socket. I wonder if I can buy a inch plug and use it to instead my previous one? I will not do anything in transformer just change the plug.
Hi, No, no need a transformer. Any tourist adapter will do the job.something similar to Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Could-I-change-the-plug-into-inch-plug/td-p/5852500
I have a Dell laptop that has an RGB plug. The plug does not have the screw holes, but the male end does have the 2 small screws and it will not stay attached. In fact, when I push it into place, it barely makes contact and if I move it ever so slightly, the picture on the other monitor begins to flicker. Is there an adapter or something that I can use?
try unscrewing the screws from the cable if they are geting in the way.
the screwless socket is a dumb idear, thanks Dell..

My computer keeps giving me an error message that the scanner is not plugged in when I try to scan something (USB). So I unplug it and plug it right back into the same port and it works like normal. Then I'll go to do another scan not one minute later and it give me the same error message. Un-plug and re-plug and it's fine again. Then the error message... you get the idea. I have another USB port and that does the same thing.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I have 3 partitions on Raid 0, named as follows: A:,B:,C:
I have the OS (Windows 7 RC) installed on C: partition and use the other two partitions for data.
Now that I will be moving the Full version soon, I will be doing a clean install.

1. Can I just do a clean install on my C: partition of RAID 0 drives?
Yes, just select the C partition during the Clean install.

No, won't affect partitions A or B. All your data will be untouched and accessible.

It will only affect partition C. I would disconnect the RAID 1 array before you start.

I have an issue that needs me to re-install Windows Ultimate x At this point I have so much stuff on my hard drive I don't want to start everything over so I would like to know how to keep everything and still re-install I know there is the quot Windows Easy Transfer quot but I keep 7 Windows x64 data Re-install but don't want to have to wait for it to put everything back on my hard drive My motherboard supports dual Bios but I don't know how set that up I also can just put everything on to a external hard drive but I have my brothers account on this computer as well and he plays a game quot Dragon Age quot i understand that the game will keep his game on his account and his only So I have this problem as well I could use help ASAP Thank you P S I'm and built this computer my self so try to keep it simple if you can
One way or the other you first have to get your stuff out of the OS partition. The new installation will erase everything.
You can either back it up to an external drive or (if you can shrink one of the existing partitions enough to hold your data) you can create a data partition and move it there. if that is an option, post back and we will discuss the best approach.
But watch out, before you create a new partition, check in Disk Management whether you do not already have 4 primary partitions. If you do have 4 primaries. DO NOT attempt to create another partition - else you will be in deep yogurt.
Btw: did you check whether setting back to an earlier restore point is an option. That would be the easiest and does not effect your data.
I am going to do a fresh install of windows 7 on my computer. I have a 160 gb ssd and a 3 tb HDD. What I want to do is put my operating system on my ssd but all data on my hdd. Meaning if I click on the desktop and add a new folder I want it to go to my hdd as well as all data. I know in previous versions you could do this after the install but from my understanding you have to do this on the install of windows.
How do I go about doing this?????
You can't run Windows from the SSD AND HDD.
What you will be able to do is use the SSD for the OS and need to create the files on the D drive itself.
Hi I have two Seagate tb XT internal drives and a Hitachi drive used as my boot drive The two xt drives data re-install Help! after Lost Please were partitioned due to the tb limit using Seagate drive wizard and have been working fine I decided to clean up my PC and re-install Windows I re-installed to the Hitachi drive which went fine but now both xt drives are only showing the larger Please Help! Lost data after re-install partitions and the smaller partitions are showing as unallocated in drive wizard and disc Please Help! Lost data after re-install management I cannot add a drive letter or revive the partitions without losing the data as the only options available are to format or wipe the partitions Am i missing something obvious here I can t see how both drives could have become damaged in the space of an hour and i definitely did not format or change anything except to the Hitachi drive I m not really familiar with partitioning drives but i really can t see what i m doing wrong i just expected to see all four drive letters as they were before the re-install Would really appreciate some help with this as its an awful lot of data i ve lost Thanks in advance nbsp
A bit late now, but when you are re-installing Windows & you have several other hard drives connected, it's always advisable to remove/disconnect all of them except the one you are going to install Windows on (obviously).
Run the Error Checker on the other two drives to see if it detects & corrects any errors to the file system:
Right-click the drive and choose "Properties"
Click the "Tools" tab
Click "Check Now"
Tick both tick-boxes
Hi forum I have an OCZ GB SSD and TB Wesern Digital HD running on Win bit ultimate custom build The previous not so old previous sata Hd's being tb and tb I wont to add without losing any data that is on them I had terrible problems with Acronis software that came with the SSD and gave up on it as were unable to help me So purchased a new tb HD as a nd HD to get up and running However I now Have a tb HD formatted as had Win on it a free download - but not happy with it and went back to win - which keeps trying to give this back to me as an important update no mention at all it is a win permanent advert So as I now know this I don't download it but is easy to do so as mixed in with other important updates as is the intention and very sneaky Plus a TB HD also full with video photos etc Now I have installed these two drives not as a st boot of course - looked at Bios and changed boot sequence a few times st lised as UEFI But having not done this before I thought it would be simple- but so far not seen theses HD's in the Bios or shown on computer I understand I need to give them drive letter's i e V for video as Letters F G H I already used up as a portable device i e card reader It appears most help assume exactly Sata so 3/4th install I not do on with HD's How a old data it is to format How do I exactly install a 3/4th not so old Sata HD's with data on new HD's Which I How do I exactly install a 3/4th not so old Sata HD's with data on most definately How do I exactly install a 3/4th not so old Sata HD's with data on don't want on the tb as need data for my video editing software I recall putting important info onto the gb SSD from the TB HD and I think I formatted this one to get rid of win as was nowhere as secure as win probably why it was free assumption based on Bitdefender reports I know I can possibly use these as external HD's via extrnal USB But USB seems stupid I would like to use the remaing space and keep for storage- I recall the tb is actually full Sorry if this is a bit long dis-jointed Basically am trying to add these two drives without losing any data via disk management I'm sure im missing something silly in getting pc to recognise these drives etc Any one able to put me in the right place and or give an exact plan to follow Or at least get the tb HD up and running in system as this has important video data I use in conjunction with my editing software Many thanks for any help Robo
Just connect the drives to sata data and power, boot the system.
If you cannot see the drives in windows check the drive management and make sure they are assigned drive letters.
Once you can see the drives in windows go to properties at the root of each drive and give your current (admin) user full access, may need to take ownership, and make sure this is cascaded to all sub folders
If you have issues as one or more of the old drives are still marked active from the previous system installs you can correct this using Partition wizard
Once you are up and running it is probably a good idea to move the required data onto the new drive, temporarily and wipe and reformat the older drives
I'd like to install an SSD for my Win 7 setup. My HD currently has about 250GB on it, and I'm planning to put the data intensive user stuff on the HD.
From poking around, I understand the best way to separate the user data from the boot drive is through drag and drop, rather than a register hack (see Windows 7 and SSDs: Cutting your system drive down to size | Page 2 | ZDNet)
My question is this?I'm planning a fresh install of Win 7 on the SSD. If I use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer the data and settings, there won't be enough room on the SSD for it all (I'm planning a 128GB SSD).
So how do I go about doing the install so that the SSD has just the OS and the apps on it while the HD has the data moved over from the existing HD?
Camner, welcome to the windows 7 forum.
One solution would be to move all of your data to another disk. remove the hibernate file and then start reducing the size of the existing C drive to less than 120gig. It has to be equal or less than the size of your new SSD. It is just not the free space but the actual size of the c drive after you reduce it's size. Then you can use most any of the image programs like Acronis or the Microsoft included image program to create an image of your resized C drive and install you SSD, then restore the image to the SSD from an external hard disk. Takes a bit of time but it does work. Otherwise, I would remove the existing hard disks and install W7 from your DVD drive. and of course all of your programs would have to be re-installed on your new C SSD.
Clear as mud?
I have Windows XP Professional but have found it easier to use Drag & Drop to back up My Documents.
I want to bring my second computer up to date with more recent data. I do not know how to do this using the new backup CD with the new data.
The first step of course is to put the cd in Drive D on my other computer
but then what steps to take?
Will greatly appreciate help.
Drag and drop from the CD to wherever you want to put the files via Windoze Explorer.
Fewer than three days to go until Sevenday!
I currently have 2 hard drives, one for the Vista x86 system, and the other for "My Files" (Documents, Email, Downloads, Pictures ...) although there are naturally a few important files also saved on the system drive.
I plan to do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 using 2 brand new hard drives, and keep the existing drives intact. I can temporarily connect both of the old drives to collect what I need from them.
My question is this: do I need to run Windows Easy Transfer to make an archive of the old drives, or can I transfer the data from its raw form? Going from XP to Vista was easy, simply drag and drop. But I think that the Windows 7 "Libraries" system may not like this, and I may run into problems with Permissions or Onwership.
I would recommend using the Transfer Wizard from the 7 installation disc. It can easily be customized to pick up exactly what you want moved - it got me completely moved from Vista to 7 in an afternoon - without fuss.http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/29917-install-new-hd-old-data-transfer.html

It is always prudent to disconnect all unneeded drives during an installation. But what you are seeing is a bit odd indeed.
I would try to pull off my data from the 2 dead partitions either by using a live Linux CD or with Recuve Download Recuva 1.42.544 - FileHippo.com
hey...my XP crashed thus i had 2 repair it and i had a password enabled. when it finishd installing the OS it askd me 4 a password and my old one didnt work
i installed a fresh OS without formatting the harddrive coz of the info in it. and nw i cnt access my info which was in my documents in my old XP and it doesn't even show my username in Documents and settings folder. hw can i b able to access it? i need the data ASAP
Let's see if I understand correctly....you installed XP and the result was a request for a pasword which you say doesn't work.
<<i installed a fresh OS without formatting the harddrive...>>
You have more than 1 hard drive installed? I guess I don't see how you could do a new install, if you don't.
Before we go any further...system manufacturer and model?
<<which was in my documents in my old XP and it doesn't even show my username in Documents and settings folder..>>
So...are you saying that you have an install of XP that allows you to see the other install? Are they on the same partition? Are they on different partitions or drives?
What error message (exact wording) did you get?
Hi everyone.....thanks in advance for any help
I bought a 200 GB Western Digital hard drive today, and brought it over to a friend's house. He installed it, dumped some files to it, and gave it to me. I came home, installed it, and when I click on the F: icon in explorer, I get an error that the disk is not formatted, and it asks if I would like to format. Is there any way at all for me to be able to use this drive and access the data on it? When I use the WD programs that came with the disk, ist sees the data on the drive, it just won't let me access it. Thanks!
