Q: Problem upgrading HP Envy 15-j012la with new SSD

Hi, I had a problem with my old HDD installed on my HP ENVY 15-j012la, so I bought a new 240 gb SSD (Crucial BX200). I replaced the HDD with the SSD, then turn the laptop ON with the USB Win10 image to install it on the SSD, but the installer didn't recognized it. I gave format to the SSD, but the problem remains. I've read that the SATA should be changed in the BIOS, but this laptop has the InsydeH20 3.7 and there's no way to change to AHCI. I would be very grateful if you could help with this issue! Best !

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I'm interested in purchasing an HP ENVY 720-220 computer. The specs look great, but I'd love to upgrade the RAM. According to the product specifications, it is upgradable to 16 GB. Now, my question is, would HP be willing to upgrade the RAM themselves if I paid an additional fee? I know the guide to upgrade RAM is online, but I'd rather not take the risk and mess up the machine.  Thank you ahead of time.

Hello, I would like to upgrade the GPU and PSU on a  HP Envy H8-1437c.  The GPU I am wanting to upgrade to is the GEFORCE GTX 970.  It is 10" in length, PCI Express 3.0,  and a dual port (or double wide?).  The PSU is  a  EVGA Supernove Nex650G.  Are there any proprietary power connectors on the current psu that I should be worried about? Am I able to upgrade the current GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 )to the GEFORCE GTX 970? Thank you very much!

I attempted to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  Upgrade was still in progress when I left for work.  Returned to find notebook frozen.  Tried to restart, still freezes at HP logo screen.  Tried Hard Restart process, still freezes. What is my next option to regain functionality?  Notebook was purchased in July of 2013.

I'm interested in swapping out my current HDD and replacing it with an SSD. Are there any limitations on the size of SSD I can install? Will a 1tb work or am I limited to 512gb or anything like that?Are there any complications I should be aware of while considering this upgrade?Thanks a bunch!

Any 2.5 inch SATA SSD that is 7mm thick which almost all are.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6BM3T90744&cm_re=Samsung_850_Evo-_-20-147-373-_-... The Samsung Evo 850 is my choice but OCZ, Kingston, several others make a good product so as long as it is a name brand you can shop on price and there are deals to be had.  Software reinstallation/migration can be hard but if you have Windows 10 you always know you can download an install disk and you do not need a Key Code to reinstall and it will activate when you connect to the internet. Windows 10 allows you to make a system image and you can also use cloning software. A few weeks ago I took delivery of an HP Envy Phoenix - se nbsp It seems these days that HP and other manufacurers don't want you to add anything that they didn't ship to you so newer PC's are harder to upgrade nbsp nbsp On the surface it seems the - se has some upgrade potential nbsp x M slots open open PCI Express x slot open PCI Express x slot nbsp I wanted to make use of the open M slot add some RAM add an SSD for data apps add a high end sound card and replace the stock drive with a bigger one 850-065se Upgrading Phoenix Envy the HP nbsp nbsp When it came to adding memory or accessing the open m slot there was a challenge nbsp The Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se CPU fan radiator was in the way nbsp I almost stripped the screws x in moving it but was successful nbsp In the end I was able to add a Kingston heyperx m drive and up the RAM to Gb nbsp nbsp When it came to hard drives there were a couple of challenges nbsp The first was fitting a inch ssd in a inch bay nbsp I found a suitable adapter on amazon nbsp The second was that the drive bays depend on a certain type of screw to work nbsp Once you know what sort of screw it goes pretty well nbsp The last challenge was SATA cables nbsp One needs degree connectors at the drive side of the connection nbsp The last challenge was expansion cards nbsp I want to add Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se a PCIe sound card to the computer but there's not much room nbsp The nvidea takes Upgrading the HP Envy Phoenix 850-065se up two slots and obscures the PCIe x slot nbsp There's another PCIe x slot but the video card won't fit in there nbsp I haven't done so yet but I am hoping that I can fit the PCI x card to the PCI x slot successfully nbsp So far I have been able to upgrade my - se but it's been a fight all the way nbsp I've also done some modest overclocking with the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility I've got the CPU up to MHz but have hit a bit of a wall nbsp I need to do more study and may get a better result nbsp

I have an HP ENVY 750-177c and was upgrading and 2 thin black wires got disconnected from the motherboard.  They have loops on the end of the wires that look like they could slip on pins.  The wires connect to the top of the computer box.  Where do I reconnect them at?

I picked up a refurbished HP ENVY 750-137C, and am currently looking to upgrade the graphics. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want it to last me some time, so I'm looking at the Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1070.  Aside from the changes in power requirements, does anyone know if this card would be compatible, and if there are any issues to this upgrade? Also, Nvidia recommends a 500W power supply for this card. Would that be enough, or is that genrous number? Additionally, if anyone has a power supply product they would recommend for this theoretical combination, I would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks!

@Drifterx311?, welcome to the forum. Here are the full specs of the card on nVidia's website.  The card is double slot and 10.5" in length.  I suggest measuring from the Back I/O plate to the front of the case to see how much space is available.  I believe that it will fit, but it will be tight. As you stated, the specs recommend a 500W power supply unit (PSU).  Personally, I would buy one with at least 600W.  This will give you some extra power for peak needs.  I like Corsair products.  Here are some PSU's for you to review at Newegg.  If you choose a modular PSU it will allow you to only install the cables that are absolutely necessary.  This allows for better airflow.  The PSU is the backbone of the computer.  Read the Customer Reviews to see what users have to say about them.  A good PSU will make your system run much better. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

The service guide for the HP Laptop ENVY 17-j013cl indicates the largest SSD that is compatible is 160GB.  Does the service guide state this because, at the time the ENVY 17 was produced, the largest SSD was 160GB?   Or is the system limited to 160GB SSD, for some reason? Thanks.

I was recently given 2 AIO computers from a local charity group to try and repair that both have the same problem. They seem to start but the screen remains black on both no cursor or anything. I will list what I have done and this will be on both of them.Replaced ram with known good ones.Removed the CMOS battery for 15 minCleared BIOS with jumper (battery in)Tried tapping F10 for 8 seconds then arrow down twice and hit Enter twice.A hard reset unplugged and held in power button for a couple minutes I see an HDMI port on both but I believe this is an input port?? I have read about reflashing the BIOS on a 23-d010ea and was wonder if this is what might be needed??That article is here CLICK HERE toward the bottom of the page.Any help is apreciated!!

Hello.Recently I got a new router, which has two networks. One, with a 2,4 Ghz wifi and the other with the 5 Ghz wifi. I read through my laptop's specs and details and it said to have a dual wifi card incorpored, which means it supports the 5 Ghz wifi. My problem is it doesn't recognize the 5Ghz network (the network name doesn't appear when searching for available connections). Is there any issue that may be causing this? My laptop model is HP Envy 15 j108la.

Hi,My HP envy does not startup when I press power it doesn't show any thing on the screen caps lock LED blinks 2 time in sequence, wifi LED is amber when I press the power button for 8-10 second I hear a click sound of HDD stoping.

My laptop hinge has cracked. There has been no trauma to the laptop at all. It simply cracked one day while I was opening the laptop. The border of the screen has a crack in it and is causing a separation from the screen. I actually have had to put tape on this area to keep it together and to keep it from breaking more. I've read a lot of individuals having the same problem with this same model laptop and I'm disappointed. I spent over $1k on this laptop and thought I'd get more than a couple of years out of it. I hope that HP will stand behind its product and repair this without cost to me since this is clearly a known issue in the model.

Last night, I was updating my HP Envy M6 bios. As, I was updating the bios, my laptop suddenly shutdown. Afterwards, when I powered on my laptop, it didn't work. I tried many times but failed. The warranty of my laptop is over. Then, I went to local laptop reparing shop. The repairer said that, "We will install the new bios in bin format on the eeprom chip inside the laptop. My laptop's touchscreen capability has vanished ever since I installed windows 8.1 but all the solutions I have found have proven to be useless. Touch screen has disapeared from device manager and calibrate touch screen has disapeared and I used to be able to use touchscreen previously. I bought an HP Envy 360 a couple months ago and it is really having problems. First, the google chrome application would not open at all, once I figured out to run as adminstator other problems started to emerge. Now, every once in a while, I will click on the wifi logo on the bottom right of my screen and it will say it is loading, but take over 5 minutes to load or not load at all. When this happens, I cannot open applications on my laptop like google chrome. The only way to get rid of this problem temporarly is to restart, please help! Thank you.

I am having the EXACT same problem.  HP has been no help.  It seems like it is an incompatability problem with HP and Windows 10.  After being on the phone a number of excruciatingly frustrating days with HP help, they want money to tell me to do a reset and roll my computer back to 8.1! HP needs to fix this. My computer is a HP pavillion notebook 15-ab027clFIx it HP!

Hallo.I just intall ssd 850 pro in my laptop and is booting ok, than I noticed that there is a m.2 socket in the motherboard...so imediately I bought a samsung 950 pro.now when I put in the soket this ssd computer is not starting, i mean after installation when I turn on power is having no reaction....lamp from button switch on for half a second and switch off imediately. than nothing. if I take off the m.2 disk everything start again.there is some problem of compatibility or I am doing something wrong.Thanks for any help.

Im planning to buy a HP Envy 13  to use for school, since this notebook is lightweight and thin and the battery life (from what I've read) is decent. I've noticed that there are 2 HP ENVYs available, both with the same specs, both with the same price ( ENVY 13-d120nd and ENVY 13-d010nd). I wondered what the differences are between them. So I hoped you guys from the forum could help me with this. And if any of you got any suggestions for other HP notebooks in the same priceclass with a good (maybe better) battery life to use for school, feel free to suggest  Thanks in advance!

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

I have hinge problem with my laptop Envy M6 1205dx which has no warranty.  Then the screen cracked a month after that. This laptop is a gift so I plan to have it fixed or fix it myself. My laptop had hinges issue from quit some time without any kind of fall or physically damage its hinges problem I have am having laptop m6 an I Envy HP hinges where loose and I have an HP Envy m6 laptop I am having hinges problem screen was moving even with the air of fan but my year warranty was out which covered Accidental damage but still I showed it to a service centre they said you would be charged for the repair Then it was not much of problem so I didn't go for repair bt suddenly now it's back cover is opening up cos of hinges now I showed to ho centre after my warranty of years was jst about to end they said you could have submitted and got a replacement before cause Envy devices have a manufacturing problem as many have same issues now they told me a different centre in city as they deal with these hinges issues I went to them they are saying sir your warranty ended last month if you aur hv brought it then we aur hv replaced now it will cost you k to repair i f this was a common and a manufacturing problem in Envy devices company should have called back or provided customer with information I feel disappointed with HP I hope HP has a solution for this I have been a fan of HP devices but this time I feel disappointed by service and product cause service centre didn't had proper knowledge when j showed them first now asking k I hope HP will help its aggrieved and disappointed customer k is a big amount which tk pay for negligence of the service support centres RegardsAbhijeet

Bought Envy in December 2014.  At about 19 months I noticed the hinge was not working right and I found a small screw which fell out.  The hinge has gotten worse over the last month or so even though I  have been careful with it. I am the only user.  I saw many other posts about hinge problems on the envy.  Is Hp doing anything about this problem?  I believe its only a one year warrenty.  Am I SOL because of this?

Sometimes when booting your notebook, the screen displays 4 desktops (see screenshot). This problem manifests itself not only inwindows, but also in the BIOS. If you connect an external monitor, it all ok. It has fitted in the laptop graphics Intel and AMD discrete graphics. which of the graphics card does not work properly?

Hi there, The fact the graphics are working on an external monitor is intresting... If the laptop is in warranty send to HP and they will take care of this. Otherwise I would advise you remove one of the graphics card and then see if the problem happens with it removed if it doesen't then that will be the faulty one.

I have started having problems with the secondary battery on my HP Envy x2. I've had it for a couple of months now and to begin with everything was fine. A couple of weeks ago I began to have intermittent warnings when I turned on the Envy. It said that there was a problem with the calibration of the secondary battery and it needed callibrated or possibly replaced. The problem is that even though it says this it sometimes shows that the battery has successfully fully charged and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't always appear to use the charge sitting in the secondary battery, this is intermittent too. I have been through the battery callibration procedures and although the battery again shows as 100% charge it still says the battery needs callibrated.

Hi, I have bit of a weird problem. The notebook fans seem to be full of dust (the notebook becomes extremely loud and warm from even slightest stress), but I don't seem to find any way to clean the dust. I have tried to blow compressed air through the air vents, but almost no dust comes out at all.All suggestions thus far have been to completely disassemble the none book and clean the fan, but this isn't preferable option and would definitely make any warranty void. How should I deal with this problem?

Problem: Cannot connect to specific family wifi, was working in the past approximately 1 or 2 weeks ago but suddenly would not connect no matter what. Problem has appeared before but would fix itself randomly after a few days max(would be unable to connect but able to connect again). Other devices are able to connect to the network with no issues (mobile device and another PC). Fixes attempted have been all of the common fixes with tcp reset, winsock reset, router/modem reset as well as all of the suggested fixes in support; bios reset, reinstall drivers, system restore.

Hi Guys, I just recently purchased the HP Envy 17-n152na 17.3" Laptop and have a problem when gaming. MY FPS (frames per second) are drastically low, which shouldn't be the case regarding the laptops specification. The laptops graphic card is a NVIDIA GeForce 940M.  I've been through the NVIDIA Control Panel and into the Program Settings but couldn't find any solution to the low fps problem. My old laptop (HP Pavillion dv6) had constant high fps but ran on much lower spec components. Surely the HP Envy should be suitable for playing games.  If anyone could help me that would be highly appreciated.

Just got my Envy 15 w100-ur and I turned it on, installed OS. And I started to surf the internet but after about 1hour it disconnected from Wi-Fi, after reconnecting it stopped working. I've tried to fix it by HP diagnostic tool, windows diagnostic tool, reinstall Windows by HP Recovery Manager, update drivers, restart router, connect to wired internet, "netsh int ip reset," "netsh winsock reset". Nothing helped me. On another devices Internet works fine. If turn off notebook and after 30min turn it on, and try to open some web page is successful. But after 1min speed is too slow(< .5mbps). It even can't open web page and restart doesn't help,  you need to leave it for a while turned off. What could it be? Maybe I should try to install clean Windows?

I recently did several updates from HP. Shortly after I notice when I hover over a desktop icon the text line that appears is partially blacked out. I was hovering over the Firefox icon. And this is an example from a drop down menu in my picture editing program.  I can click on the top drop down and the black lines dissapear until I scroll on the drop down with the cursor. I'm trying to find out if this is bad video and I need to sent the computer in for warranty. I am considering reloading the computer. I often do this with my laptops once a year or so. But first I would like an opinion on what this might be. This only affects drop down and pop up text as far as I can tell, so it still could be software related, I hope.

hello it is indeed very sad for me to type in problem Envy 6 1002tx hinge HP here with the HP Envy 6 1002tx hinge problem same subject It's been less than months since the same problem creeped up I had earlier also complained the same thing regarding the recurring hinge problem of HP Envy model which i own This problem keeps happening again and again and is irritating to the end So far HP had given me the extended warranty but this hinge problem looks ridiculous I would not have had complained if it was some other problem but this hinge problem has been recurring and will continue to do so This is because of the flawed design and as a customer it really is disappointing as HP has failed to provide any long lasting solution The temporary make up only further aggravates the problem nbsp This is probably the fifth or the sixth time in the last years I am facing the cracked hinge problem of my laptop and it looks like HP might well lose out on one more customer nbsp Thank you

I recently purchased a laptop HP Envy 5, Nvida graphics card with i5 processor, 8 gb of ram and windows 8.1
It sometimes happens that I have to use the webcam (I have a microsoft hd3000) and mainly use skype to talk with my parents who live far away from me.
I tried to install the drivers from the Microsoft site, connect the webcam when prompted, restart the webcam but it did not go. By removing the driver, restarting, and simply hanging up the webcam (without installing the driver, in practice self-recognition), the webcam worked perfectly.
Switch off, power on the next day and the webcam works but the colors unpacked, red becomes purple, white, yellow, in short all busted. What can 'be?
I have a Vaio too with windows 7 and it works great.

Hello,  I have noticed that my right screw connecting the hinge of my screen and base of the laptop has come loose after a while now. I tried to tighten it but it won't. I read a few articles with people of the same laptop series and it made me think that whether this is a manufacturer's defect or not.  There is also a piece which, by my guess, has broken off and is now loose inside the body of the keyboard as I can hear it when I move my laptop around.  Is there a way to get this repaired at a repair centre? Or a better and more precise diagnostic, as I am just basing this on what I have read and my guess as an engineer. Thank you!

I've noticed the back of the laptop heating up for the past year and usually place the screen section on a USB-powered fan platform to reduce the heat When I put it to sleep I then turn off the AC power I've been able to run it without AC power for - hrs on numerous nbsp occasions However about a week ago when I tried to resume from sleep before turning on ACpower nbsp the nbsp CPU suddenly turned off At the time I was using an external USB modem which was plugged in nbsp So I turned on the AC power and restarted the laptop That 1... on PC problem Detachable battery HP ENVY x2 nonreplaceable happened a few times and at least twice I saw a brief message on screen saying the battery level was below so CPU nonreplaceable battery problem on HP ENVY x2 Detachable PC 1... was turning off Usually in sleep mode nbsp battery storage nbsp would not drop below In the past week the battery has stopped charging Last night it said the nbsp battery level was all day today it shows nbsp So I have to use the ACpower to keep the laptop running HP Battery check today produced the following results Warranty Type Cycle count Manufacturer CBattery Age daysSerial Number Temperature CDesign Capacity mAhFull Charge Capacity mAh Remaining Capacity mAhCurrent mATerminal Voltage mVDesign Voltage mVCell Voltage mVCell Voltage mVCell Voltage mVCell Voltage mVStatus AC Power YesCT Number EJHQ WY J YFailure ID MAHW - -MFGH K-C E nbsp I'm instructed to replace the battery I've had this laptop since January and warranty expired in January I'm currently in SE Asia far from any HP service centers The battery in this laptop is not replaceable except by HP technicians and I've not found any way to order a replacement battery Any advice Anything like an nbsp external battery pack available for this model HP ENVY x Detachable PC

Hello nbsp I have been on many forums from with many people saying they had similar problems and HP reached out and solved their issues free of charge when out of warranty I am creating a new Hing Problem m6 1105-dx General HP Envy thread because my HP laptop was purchased in and I have taken great care of it HP Envy m6 1105-dx General Hing Problem A few months ago I realized the left hing was becoming loose and has broken This is casuing lots of tension with plastic parts on my screen and creating it to bend in a way that seems it may eventually snap and harm the monitor I'm hoping HP can reach back to me as they have for others because this seems to be a common problem with this model Currently no recall exists but if so many people have reported this issue in forums as recent as I hope HP can help This is my primary computer and as a college student I do not have the means to repair the laptop which was estimated at over nbsp

When I open up the notebook now the left side rear of the bottom case below the left hinge comes apart m7-j020dx Envy left hinge problem. as the screen is lifted up to a viewing position I have to press the left side rear of the bottom of the case together with the top side of the case to get the left side rear of the case closed When I lower the screen the left side rear of the case comes apart Envy m7-j020dx left hinge problem. and stays apart until the screen is shut I am able to close the left side rear of the case by pressing the top and bottom of the left side rear of the case together The right side hinge and the right side rear of the case do not have this issue This problem has started today I have smartphone pics I can send if needed The notebook and screen is operational Just not sure what is going on with left hinge to force case apart on the left rear side of the bottom panel

 my keyboard backlight wont turn on after sleep and i need a solution for this is driving me crazy, basicall what i do is  a) I turn on backlight,b) computer goes to sleep,c) computer wakes up,d) Whole keyboard backlight is off, including light indicator embedded in F5 key.e) Pressing F5 turns off backlight -- indicator in F5 goes on at this point (as designed).f) Pressing F5 again finally turns on backlight. It seems that after waking up from sleep, software side thinks that keyboard backlight is on, while it is actually off. That does not happen on Windows 7.

I am with Premium Keyboard 7 HP problem Home Envy Windows helping a friend Keyboard problem with HP Envy Windows 7 Home Premium with a computer problem he is having and Keyboard problem with HP Envy Windows 7 Home Premium need some help He is running a Hewlett Packard Envy Desktop Computer It has gigs of ram and a I quad core processor Keyboard problem with HP Envy Windows 7 Home Premium The computer functioned properly until after a Internet Explorer update and has had nothing but troubles since The biggest trouble he is facing now is that his keyboard will not work When I go to Device Manager I see two instances of a HID Compliant Keyboard driver I've always read that there should only be one instance I uninstalled the second HID Keyboard driver and now if we don't restart the keyboard will work Once we restart the second keyboard driver is installed and you can't print again Here are some other things I've tried Uninstalled IE from add removed programs Did a system restore back to before there was any problems Went into safe mode and the keyboard worked fine Went into Google Chrome and the same No keyboard working until after I removed one of the drivers from device manager Then it worked I can't delete one of the HID Compliant Keyboard drivers Could I delete one in Safe Mode Any suggestions would sure be appreciated The computer is just now out of warranty Thanks

A:Keyboard problem with HP Envy Windows 7 Home Premium

I would uninstall both drivers...then reboot the system.  Only one should then be reflected.
 
In Device Manager, there are "ghost entries" for devices or drivers which were installed at one point but now are not attached.  Deleting both drivers reflected should eliminate the dual drivers for one device, IMO.

I have the printer connected by wifi to my computer and also to my wife's computer.

Mine works fine but my wife's when you try and print with the printer info window open it shows the document as 'spooling' but never goes on to 'printing' as it does on my computer.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions I can try to get it to print properly.

I have an HP Envy t CTO Notebook PC Product LW AV Every so often I would get the message quot Display driver stopped responding and has recovered quot for quite a while but was never able to fix the problem Then with Envy my HP Radeon graphics on card Problem AMD Laptop I started to get the blue screen of death which said something about a memory dump and a memory driver Usually I would hold down the power Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop button and restart it Then while in regular windows mode the screen got all staticy upon restarting I got to the windows logo then I'd see a black screen with static in it and it never fully started I can go into safe mode with no problems graphics or otherwise Going into Device Manager I deleted the AMD Radeon HD M XT Graphics driver then Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop restarted and it would start and Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop run fine with the other driver Intel driver until Windows loaded another driver for the Radeon driver I couldn't stop it after loading the screen would go blank again Nothing found online so far has fixed the problem I then went into Recovery and went back to factory settings Which worked for a few hours everything worked fine Then I started to get the static again to the point I'm right back to where I started Can anyone tell me exactly what the problem is Hardware or Driver Why did it work temporarily Is it possible to totally disable the Radeon driver for good where it doesn't reload when restarted My computer has two graphics drivers not sure why Is there a way to use the other driver instead the Intel driver Since it's not under warranty anymore if I brought it to a technician is there something they can do Thanks for your help

A:Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop

I can't tell you how to turn off the Radeon card for good, as that information isn't in the HP Envy manuals that I was able to find, but I can tell you a few things.

1. It sounds like a hardware problem. The Radeon card may be failing. The other possibility is that the Radeon driver is becoming corrupted somehow (how I don't know, and it's a bit of a mystery as to how it could become corrupted)

2. The computer has two graphics cards in it. One for low power general use (the Intel) and one for more demanding graphics duties (the Radeon). In your laptop, whichever card is used is supposed to be switchable.

3. It works properly in Safe Mode because the laptop only loads the Intel drivers in Safe Mode, not the ATI/Radeon driver. Therefore the Radeon card is not being used in Safe Mode, so it will always appear to work properly.

Since it's out of warranty, you might want to have it evaluated by a trained technician. The graphics card may have to be replaced (if it even can be - some cant be). Get a quote first on how much the evaluation will cost, and how much a graphics card will cost if that turns out to be the trouble. If its a significant chunk of a new laptop's cost, you might want to reconsider fixing that one, and just buy another.

5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Hello nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp Im addressing the issue from my desktop PC as mentioned in the subject my HP envy keyboard is ahving some issue lately both with the external and the built in I can only type from last letter to first to make a correct word nbsp nbsp Eg If nbsp I want to type Microsoft Windows I need to start from S nbsp to W to type Windows then nbsp T to ' M to type Microsoft properly otherwise it will be like SWODNIW TFOSORCIM because the cursor doesnt problem scrolling HP typing ENVY Keyboard and Mouse move nbsp Also I cant click on anything in desktop except the Recycle Bin I have four or five shortcuts in desktop and no matter HP ENVY Keyboard typing and Mouse scrolling problem what I click on recycle bin opens no problem in clicking anything on taskbar Cant scroll either horizontally or vertically it HP ENVY Keyboard typing and Mouse scrolling problem just stays on top no matter what tried dragging the scroll bar down but it just goes back to top nbsp Another issue is I cant click on windows icon in taskbar and the windows key in keyboard not working at all nbsp I tried getting into control panel from the action center and when I clicked on synaptics clickpad v it pops up a message saying Unale to start synaptics due to the other pointing device or whatever installed and asked me to uninstall by clicking YES I did and restarted but no avail So I reinstalled it using HP support assistant Now the error has gone nbsp and I can open the driver settings but the other problems remain nbsp nbsp

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy.   Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. It was purchased new in 2013.

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

Hi, I bought this laptop a week ago from Amazon. I bought it because it was said that on tablet mode I could use the screen rotation and have it use as a tablet as well. We have an Albatron PX865PE Pro II motherboard here with a VIA Envy onboard audio chip (7.1 channel, 24bit, 192kHz), and whenever XP loads the volume is set to maximum, the startup sound just about blows you off your feet. Catch is, the volume control is set to the bottom of the slider, so it should be silent. If you move the volume slider up and down then it goes back to normal. For some reason the volume is being set to 100% on startup regardless of how loud the volume control is set. Has anyone else encountered a problem like this? We've put the latest drivers for the sound on, and can't find any programs loading on startup that could be altering the sound volume.

My Friend recently bought a major overhaul for his computer, which included a 250gb sataII hard drive. When he had put all the new and old bits that he wanted in (Including an older 40GB IDE HDD) He encountered a problem. He has SuSE 10.0 installed as well as win XP, and now cannot load the GRUB boot loader. Any advice for him?

grub is not located in the MBR. if you change the HDD layout with linux grub will be looking for the files on HDD0 and that would now be rearranged. You have to boot to knoppix and tell grub where to find its files. i would reccomend to ask this question at www.linuxquestions.com. just plug up the computer the old way and go from there.

Problem upgrading to xp pro
Hello I am trying to upgrade my XP Home 2002 Service pack 3 to XP Pro from a 2006 disk. It tells me that it can not do this because my Ver. Of Windows is newer. If I still want to do this I will have to do a clean install from Boot with Cd.
My question is if I uninstall the service pack 3 will it let me do this or is there another way to do it without having to do a "Transfer files and settings".

You should be able to uninstall SP3 and then install XP Pro - but post back if it doesn't work.

RECEIVED A DELL COMPUTER OPTIPLEX GX110 FROM A FRIEND PENTIUM 111 667 MHz 256 KB 128 MB. ORIGINALLY HAD WIN 98 BUT THEY UPGRADED TO XP AND DID THE SP2 UPGRDAE. PROBLEM IS COMPUTER IS VERY VERY SLOW.FREEZES ALOT. GET MESSAGE OF KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR.

When I try to upgrade my professinal sp1 to sp2, it never works. what will happen is that it keeps automaticly restarting. one time i was able to get to desktop, but i couldnt see the start menu or that bottom bar thing. i got this nVidia pop up saying that the RAID drivers were not working and asked if i wanted to send an error report. i also got my firewall pop up and if i clicked on it, my computer would restart. then it went through this checkdisk and after that, i couldnt get into the desktop. i couldnt even got into safe mode. also, i dont even use RAID. i have a single hard drive. what could be wrong? any help would be nice =)

My current OS is Win Vista and I want to upgrade it to Win 7,after checking for compatibility,the error which says "you should uninstall "Zone alarm" appears,but "ZONE ALARM IS NOT INSTALLED ON MY OS!!!!"
What should I do?

Hello Saeidmscs, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have ever had ZoneAlarm installed at one point, then you might see if using the ZoneAlarm Removal Tool can get rid of any remnants of it to get rid of that message. If you have not ever installed it, then I would not worry about it. Just disable any antivirus or security program before doing the Windows 7 upgrade install.

Can someone possibly help me here? I currently have a P4 1.6 cpu and bought a 3.0 cpu to swap the 1.6 for. Everything is installed correctly, temp is fine, and my bios is the newest version. I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 PRO ver 2.0 MB. When I put the 3.0 in it, the computer boots all the way into my desktop then shuts down and reboots. It just does this over and over. It looks fine for a minute at the desktop (everything starting up fine, no locking up), and then just reboots. If I go into the setup of the computer before it boots, this does not happen. I can fool around in the setup for as long as I want. It just does this when it boots int XP. BTW, I am running XP Media center Ed. if that matters. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a couple of boxes with different mobos. In one I have a Celeron 1.7 on a Gigabyte VIA PT800 board. I tried to upgrade to a P4 2.4 1MB, but no matter what I did, it wouldn' t post. No video at all. I tried three different boards, but no go. New power supply. Now I tried a new Celeron D320. Same problem. I pulled the battery on the board to reset CMOS, but no good. PLEASE HELP with any suggestions at all....

Hi guys I recently tried to upgrade my PC with a New GPU, PSU, and an SAD. Now when I start my computer it shows the GO screen with press each to access start menu. After that it goes to a black screen with my computer specs and the Same press each for start menu message. If I press each it says start menu In the bottom right corner of the black screen without actually opening the start menu, and I can't access any other menus (such.as boot or bios) either. Can Anyone tell me how to fox this problem? Thanks.
