I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In windows 10 mobile, I can go into my bluetooth devices, and 'disconnect' a specific device. In Windows 10, I can only 'remove' the device (which I don't want to do) or turn off BlueTooth altogether.
Does anybody know a way to just disconnect a device? For instance, I want to have my headphones connect to my phone instead of the PC.

A:How to disconnect a bluetooth device without turning off bluetooth.

'Remove device' is probably not the best choice of words they could have used on this! When you close the process (i.e. 'disconnect' your headphones) on your PC, you are performing the same function as what you describe on your phone. You are not actually removing the device, just closing the process. I hope that makes sense!

I am trying to connect my phone via bluetooth to my laptop (HP 15), which is using a wireless internet connection.  I followed the steps found online: settings>change PC settings>wireless...except the "wireless" option is not an option.  I have PC and devices, Accounts, OneDrive, Search and apps, Privacy, Network, Time and language, Ease of access, and Update and recovery as my options.  I used to be able to connect, but I am unsure why I no longer have the "wireless" option.  Thank you for your help.

I have just bought the HP pavilion and a microsoft bluetood arc mouse. Love the mouse BUT it keeps turning off and you have to turn on and off to get it to work again. I have searched for answers with most saying it is a power saving option however there is no option on the mouse for power saving selection. If anyone could this would be great otherwise its going back to the shop.

Hi guys, I had a Yoga Pro 2 but I got it replaced by Lenovo under warranty because it was having some major major issues. They sent me a Yoga 900 and I am already noticing problems with its connection to my bluetooth mouse. I used this same bluetooth mouse on my Yoga Pro 2 and it always connected fine without any problems at all but with my Yoga 900 it seems that the mouse will be connected for 5 minutes max and then the Yoga 900 will no longer recognize the mouse. Any help is appreciated, this is very frustrating and I have had been having a lot of problems with Lenovo's devices. Their warranty is great but I am getting tired of so many problems for such expensive machines.

A:Lenovo Yoga 900 Bluetooth keeps turning off by its...

Similar problem here.  Yoga 900 just a couple of months old, and I decided to try a bluetooth mouse.  It connected and worked just fine for a couple of minutes and then stopped.  Windows still says the mouse is paired and connected, but it doesnt work.  Turn bluetooth off, turn mouse off, remove mouse from bluetooth devices, re pair mouse and it works for a couple of minutes and then stops.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  I'm hoping this is a Windows problem and not a Lenovo problem, but if anyone finds a solution I would love to hear it.

I have a BlueTooth speaker that sometimes I will connect to my PC for listening to music. If I don't disconnect the speaker from Windows, then turning on that speaker will turn on the computer if it's off. The power management tab for the Bluetooth USB "dongle" is disabled; I've checked all the drivers are up-to-date but still can't figure it out. Are their any other settings I might be missing, or any other method to prevent this?

Hi, I'm using a Fujitsu E8410 laptop, Microsoft Windows Vista.

Recently, everytime I enable the Bluetooth function, a folder is automatically created on my desktop. This folder is called "Field Trip to Esplanade Pictures", but is always empty.

I created this folder end of August for school work, but deleted it soon after. So it doesn't make sense to me that it keeps getting created whenever i turn on the bluetooth.

What can I do to fix this? I've deleted the folder repeatedly after enabling the bluetooth radio.

Could it be that one of your Bluetooth capable devices has this file on it - and that it's syncing it to your desktop when you turn the radio on?

I have bought a Bluetooth speaker, turned on bluetooth on the laptop, found the speaker and connected. Plays fine. But within around 30 seconds the Wifi becomes disabled. Won't come back automatically again on until I turn bluetooth off.

Any ideas on this? I've just bought a small usb bluetooth adapter to try too and will update with my results with that too soon.

My other half and son were using the computer yesterday, and then left it on to do some other things, upon returning to the laptop noticed that the power button was solid blue (should be flashing orange when in standby mode), with nothing on the screen, moved the mouse with nothing happening as well as CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

Powered computer down by holding the on/off button for 5 seconds, restarted but noticed that I could hear the DVD drive power up but that is where it stops/hangs, nothing comes on the screen. Have done this numerous times, as well as removing the battery and starting with just mains power on?

Can anyone help with what might be going on ??

Here is the issue, when my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click.
Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off.
Norton says no viruses.
My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
This problem has been happening for a long time. Please help.

A:When turning off computer & turning it back on again screen is blank

Hello squirrels and welcome to Seven Forums.

I think I'd start out by trying to do a startup repair. It's been suggested that the startup repair be done 3 times (regardless of what the notifications say) and the computer rebooted after each repair.

Yesterday I installed the trial version of Windows Live OneCare on my computer. I happen to be running Windows Vista Home Premium. After installation I noticed in the taskbar that the OneCare icon was red and opened it up to see what needed to be tended to. It turned out to be that the Windows Automatic Update was turned off, so I proceeded to turn it back on and the icon turned green.

Not more than 5 minutes later I noticed the icon was red again and checked once more to see that once again Windows Automatic Update was turned off, so again I turned it back on. This has happened numerous times without me doing anything, so my question is why or how is my Automatic Updates turning itself off?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

P. S. If a HijackThis log is needed, please let me know.

A:Windows Automatic Update turning off after Windows OneCare installation

I'm sorry but as far as I am aware the Vista version of OneCare is still in beta (meaning they're not done working on it yet, it's still being tested):

"http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm" New: Windows Vista users, try the beta edition of the scanner, just for Windows Vista.

Beta Edition is located here: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

installed intel ac-3160 dual band + blue tooth in a Sony notebook system wont allow blue tooth to start.
also there is no interface available to connect any hardware to it, i know it has something to do with some Vaio software on the system.
it allows me to use dual band mode and it shows that blue tooth is present but disables it claiming interference with 2.4 GHz band.
now i have had blue tooth dongles installed working while using 2.4 GHz band before with no issues, so i don't get the issue now.
any input would be appreciated.

Your log is clean...but your issue doesn't sound like it's malware related. By your description it sounds like the PC is entrying 'Sleep Mode' but failing to come back out...which indicates a "Power Setting" issue or hardware problem. Try asking your question in one of those forums..and Right Click..on desktop...then properties. Choose "Screen Saver"..."Power"....then "Hibernate" and uncheck the box (disable) the box that says Hibernate.

Hello,
I am having some troubles with my Sony VAIO notebook with Windows 7. It keeps on turning itself off after about 30 seconds of being on. I've tried booting into safe mode, repair computer option, and without the battery plugged in with no luck. I've also tried taking the hard drive out and putting it back in and switching my RAM sticks around. It has battery power so it is not the battery.

Thanks for any help

Hey guys,

So i spent the entire day trying to figure out why my Bluetooth installed fine but after one restart it disappeared and it wouldn't come back. I finally figured it out that the FN+F2 (wireless/bluetooth switches) is what enables/disabled it HAHAHAHAHA.

default (after startup): WiFi on / BT off
first time: WiFi on / BT ON yay~!
second time: WiFi off / BT on
third time: WiFi off / BT off

and repeat.

I hope this helps people with their bluetooth issues =)

Windows 8 was able to install all my Function Keys so I'm going to assume this will be the case for others. Good luck

Hi there,

I'm running WINDOWS XP 'Professional' (SP 3) and occasionally the Windows Firewall is turned off. it works ok when reactivated, but gets disabled again.
Sometimes this also happens with E-SCAN Internet Security.
What could be happening and how can it be prevented ?.

Cheers,

TONY.

A:My WINDOWS SECURITY KEEPS TURNING OFF.

I don't have a definite answer to your question BUT, if E-scan Internet Security includes a firewall (as its name would suggest), it is possible that it is interfering with the operation of the built in Windows firewall. Disable one of the firewalls and see if that 'cures' your problem.

I have never heard of E-scan Internet Security so I have no idea if it is more, or less, efficient than the Windows firewall.

problem is that Defender periodically turns off, and then I get an error message, and I have to turn it back on again.

Any solutions out there?

A:Windows Defender keeps turning off

Open Windows Defender and allow it to run an Update. That should solve the problem. You should also make sure all available Windows Updates have been installed.

Hello,

I have Windows 8.1 64 installed.
I turned my PC on today and I noticed some weird changes:

1. Wallpaper is changed to the default orange wallpaper.
2. Desktop settings are reset (icons visibility, screen saver, etc).
3. Apps in start menu disappeared (they are still installed, but no longer pinned).
4. If I sorted apps by date installed, I see that the following apps were installed today:
Store, PC Settings, Desktop, Camera, Photos, OneDrive, Application Verifier, Photo Gallery, Movie maker.
5. Folder called TEMP is created in C:\Users.
6. When I launch CMD it starts in C:\Users\TEMP.

The last thing I did was simply turning the PC off, and it turned off normally. No updates/installations were in progress.
No updates are newly installed (last update was a year ago).
Event logs don't show anything unusual.
No viruses detected.

Cheers

Hey I recently bought a steelseries apex keyboard and since plugging it in, if it's plugged into any of the rear USB ports, my computer is unable to turn off.
It will go through the shutdown procedure, screen will turn off but the computer itself is still running. This happens both when using the power button to shutdown or when using shutdown from within windows.
Computer can turn off fine if the keyboard is plugged into a front USB port by the way.
This has happened with no other keyboard.
Error log shows nothing.
Just wondering what I can do to fix this as it's a bit inconvenient having the keyboard plugged into the front port.
Thanks for your time ^^

I have two network cards on a new computer (not knowledgeable about them) with one, hardwired to the internet through an ethernet cable to a cable modem, and the other, an Ad Hoc network connected to a wireless LAN that is connected to the new printer. I am told that I can only start one of these networks automatically when the computer starts and would have to manually connect (no big problem, just a doubleclick) to activate the wireless network to the printer. Was wondering if these was a way to tell the computer to connect the wireless upon startup? Again, not a big deal, but curious to that possibility.

Thanks,

JD

I got a new laptop for my birthday/christmas, so i have had it about 2 months. Sometimes when I shut it down, it doesnt start back up. to get it to start back up i would have to take out the battery and put it back in (sometimes i had to do this multiple times). I bagan hibernating it so i wouldnt have this "turning on " problem. I would keep updating and restarting on a regular basis. But yesterday i hibernated and it wont turn on at all today. =( I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. I plugged it in and the charging light turns on, but when i press power no lights turn on. Any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks

Try unplugging the power cord and removing the battery. After you do this open up your computer and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Might be a static issue.

Hi!

I am running Windows XP SP3 and have had Windows defender running on my PC for over 4 months now with no problems.

Now all of a sudden I turn my PC on and notice no Windows Defender Icon in the task bar and when I go into Windows Defender it says it is turned off, so I turn it on.... then re boot and it;s off again!!!

I have tried re-installing it but the same thing still happens

Any ideas??

Kind regards,

David.

Not sure if I can describe this correctly, so here it goes.

When I have more than one window open and drag from either the upper left or right corner too far left (or right), that window goes full screen and the other windows are covered up.
It seems Windows 7 is real sensitive as I am not getting that close to the corner of
the monitor screen.

Is there a way to turn this off?

A:Turning off windows maximizer

Hi Sethm1, I have your issue solved
Go to Control Panel
Click on Ease of Access link or Ease of Access Center
Select Change how your mouse works or Make the mouse easier to use option.
Tick the check box for Prevent Windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen with the mouse under “Make it easier to manage windows” section.
Click OK or Apply to make the change effective.
Once Aero Snap is disabled, the window won’t be automatically maximized and arranged when window is dragged to the edge of the screen, including both top and sides of the screen.

I have a laptop with a light surrounding the mouse touch pad.
Is there any way to turn it off permanently, without opening up the laptop and cutting the power to the LED?

Everytime I turn it on I have to use the keyboard combination Fn + F7 to turn it off which his very annoying.

Is there a way in Windows 7 that I could execute that command at startup?

You can see a picture of the laptop here:
MEDIONŽ AKOYAŽ P6512 (MD 98380)

A:Turning off LEDs in Windows 7

This wouldn't be a Win7 function since this is custom hardware done by the laptop manufacturer.

The only thing I would suggest is poking around in the settings for the touch pad and see if there is a setting to disable the LED.

It's also possible that they hid the setting in another device too.

Unfortunately the only advice I can give you is to start poking around in the settings of the various devices.

As I was writing htis I also thought it might be in the BIOS of the machine. So, I'd check there too.

SOrry I couldn't give you a more detailed solution.

Hi guys

For some odd reason Windows Aero keeps turning itself off as a theme and my computer keeps returning to the Windows 7 Basic theme....

I try switching it to Windows Classic to all the different Windows 7 Aero themes and all sorts, but all the Aero themes just show up as Windows 7 Basic.

I go out in the morning and it's all transparent and Aero is active, then when I come back in the evening without anything having touched the computer at all I find it has switched to Basic.

Restarting the computer solves the problem and it comes back on with Aero, but it is rather annoying...

Anyone had a similar problem or know what I might be able to do to resolve it?

Thanks!

Can't seem to find any tools to move or delete it so I'm guessing we don't have access for that...

A:Turning on Windows Defender

Hello PossumNZ,Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) "disables" Windows Defender by default. Should you ever uninstall MSE, Windows will enable Defender once again. MSE does have malware fighting capability; however, my recommendation would be to install and run Malwarebytes free version as an on-demand malware scanner. MSE and Malwarebytes should give your computer adequate protection. Also, see this link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/windows-defender-and-microsoft-security-essentials/5309cb8d-02e1-40e8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fd

Probably a lame title that's been recycled a bunch of times, but none of the other answers seem to properly address this issue.

Just how does one turn on the firewall?

The shields are green, I check what programs are permitted to access the internet.

Internet Explorer access's the internet.

Internet Explorer is not on the list of programs that are permitted to access the internet.

Therefor: Firewall is off.

A:Turning On The Windows Firewall

I'm pretty sure that Internet Explorer is not on the list because it is a core component of Windows. To test your firewall go to the following site: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2. Click proceed, and then run the first two test (File Sharing and Common ports). As long as those pass ok I wouldn't worry too much.

I have: Turned off adaptive brightness, told it to never dim the screen at any time for any reason under any battery plan, and still, right-on-the-dot, at exactly 1 minute, my screen turns off.

A:Windows keeps turning off my screen

Open the Control Panel, then open "power options", then in the power plan that is selected, open "change plan settings" and there you can set "turn off display" to never.

Hello!

I recently installed the latest version of the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack (v9.10.32T) for one of my desired applications to properly function. However, connecting my Bluetooth headphones through Toshiba's bluetooth manager does not seem to support the media buttons on the headset. These include Play/Pause and seek buttons. Before the Bluetooth stack, when I used my default bluetooth driver for connection, these controls had worked fine.

Also, there does not seem to be a specific setting to fix this in the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack Options.
How would I go about getting these controls back?

Hi
One of my friend in India purchased "HCL ME Sync 1.0 (U3) Tablet (WiFi, 3G via Dongle) by HCL" online . It says in many places that it supports Bluetooth but when I saw this I couldn't find any option for the bluetooth and don't know how to turn it on. Is there any one who has purchased it and help me out to turn the bluetooth on or how can we transfer files with some other bluetooth device. Even I couldn't find much good information on internet.

A:Hcl Me U3 tablet says file sharing with Bluetooth but don't know how to turn on the bluetooth ?

I don't see it listed in the spec sheet, nor the user guide.

On both of my android 4.2 devices, Bluetooth is listed after Wi-fi in Settings. I would think it's the same w/ android 4.1. It's possible the tablet doesn't have bluetooth.

So, earlier today (after having been gone for the last week on a trip) I installed a update for my Windows 10 computer. After the update (and it seemed like a doosy) the system worked fine for about 5-10 minutes and so I set about doing the usual disk cleanup. During this though Windows Defender turned itself off. Attempts to open the program either result in a window that just reads that the app is 'turned off' and isn't monitoring the computer. Following the tabs on the 'action center' pull out seem to open up the Defender tab properly and allows me to turn it on...but then it turns itself off again after a couple of seconds.

I'm not currently running any other kind of virus scan/spyware protection software on the machine atm. Kinda lost as to what happened here or how to fix it. Aside from just installing new anti-virus software.

Thoughts?

I've run across something I'm unsure of how to fix.

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and for some reason when I'm on a webcam call using Windows Live Messenger my mic will turn itself down. I don't know of any way to stop this and it is highly frustrating because I keep having to adjust myself for the person on the other end to hear me properly.

Does anyone know a solution to this?

Thanks!

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but does it bother anyone else that turning the sound all the way down in Windows Vista does not mute the sound? I have a logitech G15 keyboard, it has one of those scroll nobby thingers that allows you to twist it left or right to turn up or down the volume, you can imagine how many times I'll spin that thing around before I realize the sound is not going to go away.

My question is, is there anyway to make it so that when the slider is all the way at the bottom Vista knows to shut up? Or will I be forced to reach over and press the mute button for the rest of my life?

A:Turning the Volume down in Windows Vista

With my microsoft keyboard, turning the sound all the way down does take away the sound. Have you installed the latest Logitech drivers?

Hello I do not seem to be able to turn off Windows Firewall on Windows At least I can turn it off but then Network detection automatically switches on I would like to turn both network detection and windows firewall off but I cannot seem to find the Windows with Firewall off turning Problems reason why that is not possible I have a third party Problems with turning off Windows Firewall firewall installed that I why I don't want Windows Firewall to be enabled I first thought that perhaps my other Firewall was the reason that network detection automatically switches on so I tried Problems with turning off Windows Firewall to uninstall my firewall and then I tried to turn off windows firewall but then network detection switches on again If I turn network detection off again then windows firewall turns on again So either I turn off windows firewall and network detection switches on or I turn off network detection and windows firewall turns on I would like to disable both and only turn on my third party firewall Any idea what I'm doing wrong

A:Problems with turning off Windows Firewall

First off what third party firewall do you have ? Windows Firewall does not really get turned off when install another. What exactly mean by Network detection in Windows 8 ? Mean Network discovery ? Enable or disable network discovery - Windows Help

Shown here by my system with Internet security suite, options to turn off Windows Firewall are darkened and do not work, go to services.msc notice for me still running, believe like a double security way it works.

After installing Service Pack 1 or removing some viruses my computer started to act strange, most services turns off by their selves, and even if I start them manually they still get turned off. The most noticable thing is the Themes service though, because it makes my computer use the Windows 2000 theme
Sometimes it's just half Windows 2000 and the rest is still Windows 7 theme, like some menus look old.

Also, Windows Update dosen't work and returns with error 80073EFD.

I've virusscanned with several anti-virus products and they don't find anything. After running sfc /scannow, it says that some problems were found but could not be repaired (?).
Scanned with: Malwarebytes, AVG, Bitdefender and SpyBot.

System Restore does not help and I don't have the possibility of formatting, so what should I do?
I attached some images that might explain more about my problem.

I was recently given a computer from a friend and I thought I'd install Windows Ultimate bit over a Windows XP that it had pre-installed but it doesn't seem to install properly So here's the story A while ago he told me that all of a sudden his USB keyboard and mouse would turn off and the computer would basically freeze and not respond to any actions even when unplugging and plugging back the USB keyboard and mouse I thought it could be an OS issue so I decided to upgrade it to Windows since it meets the hardware requirements Dual core Windows fails turning USB keeps and to on install off 7 processor GB RAM GB VGA but the installation Windows 7 fails to install and USB keeps on turning off keeps on failing with different problems each time First of all I tried to install Windows with the original DVD but the first time it got stuck on at quot Windows is expanding files quot just like how it would freeze when the USB keyboard and mouse stop working I would Windows 7 fails to install and USB keeps on turning off also like to mention that instead of displaying quot quot it Windows 7 fails to install and USB keeps on turning off would display quot quot The mouse's laser turned off yet the keyboard's Num Lock light stayed on but I couldn't turn it off or on as it got stuck as well but it kept on being turned on So I rebooted the computer while it was stuck there and I ended up with a disk check which took me hours of waiting and never ended Apparently it was trying to recover some orphaned file which could not get recovered after hours of waiting My second try was to transfer the installation files to a USB flash drive using the Windows Download Tool but that also couldn't fix the problem The installation got stuck on quot Completing installation quot when again the USB mouse's laser turned off and the USB keyboard froze I then tried to re-do the installation by turning off the USB keyboard and mouse right after the installation began but guess what it got stuck on quot Expanding files quot I'm out of clues on what I should try next If anyone has experienced this problem and has resolved it then please let me know I'm starting to think that the motherboard is malfunctioning I've also tried with a PS keyboard only without using anything USB related and miraculously the installation finally completed but the computer is acting super slow By that I mean it takes like minutes to open up My Computer By the way I did try turning off USB Legacy support from BIOS but that also didn't help

A:Windows 7 fails to install and USB keeps on turning off

What was the source of the installation DVD?

Download an .ISO from this location:
Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

Write it to USB using this tool:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...emeID.29553000

Insert the USB into a USB2.0 port and install as normal. Activate it, then run this tool and post the results:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click Copy - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the tool here in your next reply

Hey there guys,

I have my network as follows:

1. Desktop (Windows XP SP2 PRO) : 192.168.1.4
2. Laptop (Windows Vista Business) : 192.168.1.5
3. Router : 192.168.1.1

I have created a network bridge to gain access to internet by bridging my LAN with Wireless Connection.

I wish to listen to music files and watch videos stored on my desktop as if it is STREAMING AUDIO and VIDEO.

I also wish to make it a web server with port 80 open for using my web applications stored on my desktop, so that when I type "192.168.1.4:80", I should be presented with WAMP server's home page, which I have installed on my desktop...

Thanks in advance.........

A:Turning Desktop into server Windows Xp Sp2

Uh, thanks in advance for what? I'm not trying to be funny; you haven't given a clue as to what the network bridge is all about (in what computer? between what connections? why?) or what your problem or question is.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 Labtop , OS - Windows XP Professional (service pack 3)

After reading a post in the malware section in regards to slow computers not necessarily caused by malware, I decided to turn off Windows Indexing service. I followed the instructions from the link provided in the post. The instructions failed to mention that I would be asked to choose between just drive C or drive C and all subfiles if memory serves me right. As the second' option's radio buttom was already selected, I went with that option. However, a minute into the process the following occured

Error Appling Attributes
An error occured while appling attributes to this file
\3ad391678a806ec4d691e83aaa393b6f_50e417e0-e461-4
access denied
I was asked to Ignore, Ignore All, Retry or Cancel

Should this have happened and how should I proceed.

Every reference I took a look at with that message...referred to some type of attempted change with an encrypted file.I would not worry about the error. Ignore.Yes, you want to turn off indexing for everything, Turn Off and Disable Search Indexing Service in Windows XP ? A:Windows Defender Keeps Automatically Turning Off

Do you have Windows Live OneCare or some other antispyware program that may be causing this behavior? It's a known problem with the OneCare.

sometimes, during the turning off process of windows xp some processes can't be closed, a message shows up and gives the process certain amount of time to be closed, if unsuccessful it asks you to terminate and warns you that if you do so unsaved data concerning that process will be lost.
what bothers me isn't the delay in the shutdown process or the loss of data but the fact that if i choose "turn off" option from the start menu, i can't just assume it will necessarily do so. windows may be unsuccessful closing one or more processes, so the computer stays on.
is there a way to tell windows to automatically terminate processes that won't close after a certain amount of time? or is there any other solution to this problem?

Hello thank you in advance for your help I built this computer around years ago and there never has been a problem with it I am using Vista It should be noted that this problem doesn't always occur It happens often on. through half stops turning Windows way around of the time For example today I restarted my computer about times Windows often stops half way through turning on. before it turned on and worked fine But I would really like to get it sorted for both the sake of convinience and in case it gets worse When I turn my computer on successfully as I have done for the past two years it goes to the horizontal loading screen makes two clicking noises from within the computer the screen goes black and the hard drive begins to spin It then loads up the login screen Recently however most times when I turn it on it goes to the horizontal loading screen makes the two clicking noises and then either nothing happens and it stays on the loading screen indefinitely or the screen goes black indefinitely In neither case does the hard drive spin The only other possible symptom is that around maybe of the time when it does turn on properly full screen videos and computer games have an unplayablely low frame rate and response time I can make guesses at the problem but i'm far from an expert and i'm not sure at all how to go about fixing this so any help would be great Again thank you for your help in advance

and welcome to the Forum

What Brand and Model is this PC? What Brand and Wattage is the Power Supply?

I would start with running diagnostics on the hard drive ( click here )

See this for how to make a bootable cd

A:Windows Unstable Error When Turning On Pc

Hello nice_welsh_girlWelcome to Bleeping Computer! Sorry about the delay. We're all volunteers here, and it's been very busy. If you still need help, please post a new HijackThis log to make sure nothing has changed. Before posting the log, please make sure you follow all the steps found in this topic: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log <--link And I'll be happy to look at it for you.I also need to see a different type of log from Hijackthis: Run Hijackthis.Click on "Open the Misc Tools section".Next click on "Open uninstall manager".Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file.Place the content of that file here in your next reply. Thanks, for your patience. Stelios
