I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi: Here is the link to the W10 audio driver from your PC's support page. Install and restart the PC. This package provides the Tempo High Definition Audio Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp71717.exe

I just began to use this Spectre x360 convertible for audio playback through my stereo.  It sounded terrible as if the speakers were out of phase.  All of the audio checked out and sounded fine with the same connection wire from my iPhone.  I then tried several sets of headphones with the Spectre and they, too, sound terrible.  I updated all drivers through HP support assistant to no avail. This is an important use for me and I can't yet find a resolution. Thank you.

Ok, I have an Advent laptop. When I play CDs (on both iTunes and Windows Media Player) the sound quality is extremely bad. It's really crackly and fuzzy. Strange though because this only occurs with several of my CDs. Other ones play perfectly.
I have tried playing the CDs on a CD player to make sure it isn't them but they played fine on the CD player.

Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

A:Terrible sound quality when playing CDs. How can I fix this?

ClairR, Welcome to SF. My guess here is these two or three discs are recorded with especially deep bass which is distorting the speakers and making them break up. This is a guess but with the small and very cheap speakers which laptops are known for they just can't play loud and they can't play at the extreme ends of the frequency spectrum.

I recently updated to windows 10 but the Waves Maxx audio is not working properly. It doesn't start automatically at startup (it is not disabled in task manager) and the audio is cracking both in speaker as well as in all my headphones and earphones. I've reinstalled the driver from Dell's official site several times but nothing works. My windows 10 OS is up to date with anniversary update. In device manager all the drivers are installed.

A:Dell Inspiron 15 3521 Sound quality is poor after Windows 10 upgrade

Hi Vipin Yadav,
I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the audio driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the audio card.

In the search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Sound, video and game controllers listed and expand it.
You should find Realtek High definition audio or audio controller please right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and audio driver from audio section onto the system and install it.

A:Poor audio quality - Is it the sound card?

You probably can't go wrong with the Audigy cards or any of the middle to top end Sound Blasters. The cheaper SB's give distortions- that you may be experieincing- on some mother boards. I have a little machine in the bed room with one in there and the voices sound like robots many times.

Check out Turtle Beach. They have good cards for a little money and the sound control software is pretty cool. They usually ship with mixers and custom stuff in the software bundle. I have a old Quadzilla 2 in the game machine here and it's still kicking. This one doesn't do surround sound from the CD player but the new ones do. My neighbors can hear Godsmack from across the street when I wind this one up.

Bottom line. Stay with the well known sound guys and you should do ok without having to hire a research team to compare products. Be willing to drop a couple hundred geeta on a card and you'll be in business.

Don't forget to have good speakers.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba satelite A30 with a Realtek ac97 audio device.
The audio has been working fine for a few years now, but has recently been producing poor quality sound, like it is saturated.
I have been playing with sound volume, have reinstalled the latest drivers as well as the latest version of directX, but still experience the same problem.
I have also checked if there was a hardware conflict, but nothing shows...

can it be that the hardware is damaged, and i need to buy an external sound card or can this be solved otherwise?

thanks for anyone's help.

This has been a problem for me for a few months now, but it's just getting unbearable.

So, here's the situation:Oftentimes, my headphones give out muffled audio. It makes it virtually impossible to make out human speech, and just generally isn't very good. In the past, I could fix this by adjusting the headphone jack somewhat, but over time I've had to do it more violently and I'm concerned at this point that I'll harm the computer if I continue doing it. Now, whenever it happens, I have to wiggle the jack around with a decent amount of force to get it to work properly.

I'm not particularly good with computer hardware, so I'm not entirely sure what the exact issue could be. If you need any more information, just ask. I'd be happy to provide it. Any help is appreciated.

A:Audio jack giving out muffled, bad quality sound

i've run out of space in my pc and flash drives to store anymore files so im using my mp3 player. question is, will storing tehm in it lower the sound quality when i move the audio files back on my pc?

A:Can storing audio files on a mp3 player lower the sound quality?

If the files are simply copied across without any conversion, then no, you won't lose any quality.

If the files are converted to a lower quality format when they are transferred to the mp3 player, eg .wav files to .mp3, or high bitrate mp3 to lower bitrate, then the sound quality will be lower, and cannot be recovered from the converted files if the higher quality originals are deleted.

Okay so I have been using VGA for a long time. I got a second monitor today and it uses the old VGA cable. So I hooked it up with the VGA and it looks fine. I then plugged an HDMI cable into my PC and first monitor. Everything seems like its worse quality. Colors are brighter or darker than before and the text is blurry. This is only with HDMI and it was fine with VGA. This is a 19" TV but I have been using it for a couple years now without trouble as a monitor. Some letters on the screen are also for some reason outlined in yellow. I'm not super tech savvy so please try to keep it as simple as you can. Thank you for the help!

Hello all...

Not sure if this is the right section for this, and searches keep sending me to a blank page, so apologies if this has already been answered.

So.. I bought an ICY Box media player that supposedly outputs to a VGA monitor. The image quality is terrible. however it is fine when plugged into a TV using rca to rca (?) (which I guess most multimedia players are designed for, hence going for this media player model as I specifically need to output video files directly to a monitor). There's a five cable connector outputting to vga where I believe the problem is. Any ideas how to resolve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks K

Hi, not sure where to post this thread about sound?? So for awhile now, we have had issues with sound. It is not the speakers(old Altec Lansing 2 speakers with sub) as the sound checks are good, but voices are not sounding right . The driver is up to date Realtek HD audio... and going into the manager settings there are so many different sound settings. Not sure what was happening when the sound problem started as my son does things and never remembers what!! ugh...I got them working again, just the voices are low. There was a screaming bee audio installed(from some program of my sons which was uninstalled) and I uninstalled that and restarted, no change.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks

Well, since I haven't gotten a single reply from HP's mods, I actually found a way to stop Microsoft from automatically downloading the HP Beats Audio/Realtek audio driver to my W10 device. The KB update, KB3073930, is a standalone tool that allows hiding of pesky and arwy updates.  If you want to keep using the Microsof HD audio driver,  follow these instructions: 1.  Download the KB update tool here:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/30739302.  Uninstall the HP Beats Audio/Realtek audio driver and restart computer (it tells you to do so after uninstall)3.  After restart, open the tool and follow the steps.  It's pretty self-explanatory. Albeit a temporary solution, it's a breath of fresh air to not hear distorted, fluctiating, and compressed sound out of my external speakers when I play any media.  Now, If I can only use the generic Realtek drivers without it being overridden by Beats Audio's atrocious control panel...probably has something to do with the registry.  I, however, shouldn't have to go through these lengths to get clear, crisp sound out of my laptop.

Hallo,
during the last weeks the audio quality output of my Inspiron 660 has got worse.
Either when I use the headphones or a speaker, both front panel or rear panel connected, it happens that the sound distorts, or switch mono to stereo and vice-versa, or it happens also that the volume go up and down or that. That  happens  with any kind of source (radio, youtube, audiofiles, spotify,...) and if I listen to the same source with my tablet or smartphone, sound is ok.
Drivers are updated.
I'm not an expert of pc stuffs, I'm just thinking to buy a new sound card.
What do you think, can someone help me?
Thank you
E.

Did you install this conexant audio driver dated 10/16/13?Audio_Driver_9VFXH_WN_8.50.12.0_A00.EXEYes, you could disable the onboard audio in the Bios- Advanced field and then add any PCIe x1 sound card to one of the three PCIe x1 motherboard slots.

YouTube The guy is using Windows -bit same as me BUT he has the option to increase the audio quality to DVD quality It's the same exact Microphone same windows and appears to be the same driver I'm running Windows Ultimate -bit so it should include all of the drivers yes Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong Logitech doesn't offer any drivers and the guy in the video mysteriously has the same driver but has more options than me The microphone is just as useless with loud echos and the like as my old Webcam Microphone Thanks for your answers

A:Windows 7 only offering low quality Default Format audio settings!

I couldn't find anything particular on forums.logitech.com other than one guy complaining about the quality of the playback sound. His post was in 2008 and nobody replied.

Standard trick to reset a driver is: go into Device Manger. Find the device. Right click on it and choose Remove. Reboot. When Windows comes up again it will reinstall the driver. It works a high percentage of the time. But there's no guarantee.

Might be a good idea to make a Restore Point first if you use them. Just to make sure you don't lose ground.

The audio for all media through the speakers will become muffled every few seconds, then revert back to normal quality only to become muffled again. This happens only with the speakers, though, as headphones seem to work fine.

A:Audio on inspiron 13 7000 windows 10 fades in and out, with a muffled quality

 I think I found a fix!

Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right part of your screen (sorry, can't remember the English name for that) and choose "Playback Devices", so you'll get to the Sound menu. Click on the Communications tab. There you'll find a set of options to "When windows detects communication activity:"
Choose "Do nothing".

This solved for me, hope it helps you guys too. Sorry about my English, I am not a native speaker.

Hello All! I dont know if this is the correct place to post this but, Microsoft just released a KB update kb3000850. this update completely annihilates all the sound quality i once had with my Soundblaster RX. heres the kicker. this update used to be optional. but since quite recently it has beccome reccomended/mandatory. ive been putting off installing it because it just makes my music sound like white disorganized noise... NO lows and very crappy highs. I dont know if i dont install it will i still get access to things like security or framework updates down the line? any one experience this problem with this update or other updates for that matter... system specs are on my profile tab.

Any fixes or workarounds? is this preparation for the long awaited windows 10 release?

A:Windows 8.1 KB300850 Kills Sound Quality

That was installed on my PC in Dec 2014. I do not have any audio problems, either with PC audio or with my recording studio audio (I use the PC for both regular PC work and for my Sonar recording studio.

I have RealTek PC audio, not the Audigy RX SoundBlaster.

For testing, disable the SoundBlaster and enable the on-board audio and see how that works. My recording studio backup PC has an ASUS motherboard with RealTek and the KB300850 installed and there is no audio problems with it either.

Hi and welcome to the 7 forums.
What kind of sound card do you have? Audiophiles would generally have a dedicated soundcard feeding an expensive amp with really good speakers.
One thing you could check is to go to the control panel and click on sound, select speakers and properties. On the advanced tab check (if your hardware supports it) you are set to 24 bit audio and studio quality.
You would also need to rip your music cd's in FLAC (free lossless audio codec) which retains the original glory of the music. Playing this back through a good sound card to a hi fi system sounds every bit as good as the original but is more convenient. Good sound cards costing over $100 will also make MP3 files sound better. Garbage in garbage out, the better the source material the better the output will be. Do a search in goggle for FLAC there you will find codecs to add to Windows Media player. Players like Winamp have FLAC support built in.

Well, I decided to update my HP laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate (both 64 bit) and in doing so my firefox and IE browsers are considerably harder to read. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube descriptions, most anything has very poor quality.

I recently came across this problem on my desktop after updating my graphics card's driver via an optional windows update (big mistake) and all I had to do was rollback the driver. For this problem, I tried updating the graphics card's driver, but it's up to date.

I hope there's an easy fix for this, I really don't know what to do. Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 upgrade led to loss off crispness & quality in browser text

If your current font size is "normal - 100%", perhaps you might just try "medium - 125%" and see if this appeals more to you and your laptop.

Right-click on desktop, select "screen resolution", then select "make text and other items larger or smaller", and check the "medium - 125%" radio button.
Note that while this definitely will make all text characters larger and darker and appear like "they have MORE INK", it may also cause some windows drawn by application programs to potentially have truncated text or be otherwise slightly malformed. This is a long-standing issue that goes back even to WinXP (with its equivalent "small fonts (96DPI)" or "large fonts (120DPI)" settings.

If these very occasional types of minor cosmetic anomalies bother you, then I suppose "medium - 125%" is not for you. But if you can accept it, then the "MORE INK" darker, clearer, characters are definitely more readable.

Of course, you can also make things larger in both IE and Firefox with a "ZOOM - IN" (View -> Zoom) click, though you probably already knew that.

Just suggestions.

Sound is now tinny and muffled. Voices in games are now far away, but background music plays fine. Errors only present as of latest Windows 10 update.
Using the latest Windows High Definition Device drivers. Have tried all Enhancements individually and in combination, and Disabling All Enhancements. Have uninstalled and reinstalled Drives, restarting the computer to complete reinstalls. Have changed default sample rate to CD,DVD, and Studio qualities.
Cannot Rollback drivers- the option is grayed out, and this is a fresh Windows 10 install- installing from scratch did not fix the issue either.

This a quick mini-tutorial on how to radically change the sound quality in Windows - especially important for laptop users but also significant for in Quality 7 Radically Worsen) Windows To (or How Improve Sound those who for How To Radically Improve (or Worsen) Sound Quality in Windows 7 instance have accidentally managed to worsen their sound on a hi-fi connected system and cannot find their way back There are essentially five tiers of potential sound-affecting entities within a Windows PC Application Add-on CODECs or plug-ins Mixer System Sound card driver It is important to realize that ALL of these may have settings that can alter the sound quality and that using the correct tier first is fairly crucial when you want to use different output devices at different times Headphones Extension Speakers Hi-Fi Built-in Laptop speakers etc A setting altered to suit one output device that is made to a quot common quot tier will potentially wreck the careful settings you made for another output device Thankfully Windows improves greatly over Windows XP in this respect - it helps you manage settings specifically for a particular output device as long as you realize this and work with it rather than against it I'm fortunate enough to possess a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with moderately good built-in speakers a good quality USB-headset Freetalk and the very cleverly designed Logitech Z USB speaker-bar to use as an experimentation base So I will discuss altering the various settings in the context of these output options Read across to your own needs and experiment accordingly on your own system In order to break this all up a bit I shall section-up this tutorial into separate posts on this thread so please bear with me as it may take a while to complete You can always subscribe to the thread get e-mail notifications if you don't want to miss anything I shall post a specific quot end quot reply when I've covered it all and would appreciate if you keep any replies on hold till then for the sake of continuity of the tutorial

A:How To Radically Improve (or Worsen) Sound Quality in Windows 7

Step One - Identifying the five tiers

Tier One: The Applications that you may be considering may be the obvious: Windows Media Player, the ubiquitous: Cyberlink PowerDVD or Media Player Classic, or the less versatile but annoyingly in-your-face: Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight & BBC IPlayer in the Internet browsers.

All of these have, to a varying degree, their own indigenous settings (or not). And for the sake of commonality, they are actually the LAST place you want to tweak sound quality if you are likely to want to switch between output devices frequently. So resist for now the equalizers, wow-settings, or bass-boosts built into some of these. Indeed - start by disabling them all. Better - use a "reference application" without such enhancements for all your setting up, and later use these individual application settings as "condiments" (salt-and-pepper to taste).

Tier Two: Note that you may have installed some "extra" CODEC-based or plug-in enhancements that either operate at DirectX level (for some but not all apps), or are introduced for specific media types (AVI, MP3, FLAC etc), or for specific applications. Try and neutralize these too, if you can. They may not be helping. For example, you can actually download and install a graphic equalizer that operates like a CODEC. If you did, then disable it for now. Also, choose a set of reference items from your media collections (one or two each from MP3, Video, FLAC, whatever) that you will consistently use for your setting up, which hopefully will help ensure CODEC consistency, or at least identify any inconsistency, during your experiments. However, if you are using Windows "out-of-the-box" and haven't installed any special CODECs, then don't worry too much about this tier.

Tier Three: The Windows 7 Mixer can usually be accessed by double-clicking the speaker icon in the notification area of the task bar. This is the main port of call when you are setting up your system under this tutorial. Familiarize yourself with how it looks when you click it whilst you are running different apps and when you have plugged in different output devices. Note that you may have to close and reopen it after physically changing (connecting or disconnecting) the output devices.

To get there, locate the speaker icon:
When clicked this will give you the Volume Control:
And from that you can open the Mixer:

Tier Four: You now have easy access to this tier, by clicking the SYSTEM SOUNDS icon in the MIXER applet that you have just opened. This should beget you a dialog something like the one shown below. We use this to get to the options that fundamentally set the SPEAKER arrangements at system level for each output device you connect to your PC. Note that you should try and physically connect your outputs to the same USB ports every time, since Windows treats each USB-port and Device Driver combination as a distinct output entity, and remembers settings for each of these.

We are specifically interested in the PLAYBACK TAB.
We are still in "Tier Four" when we click one of these icons listed in this tab. We get to Tier Five by a different route (be patient). Tier Four however allows us to get at some special settings that Windows provides via its "default" driver mechanism. It allows us to specify whether our speakers have a woofer or multiple satellites (2.1, 5.1, etc). Also it defines whether or not full-range speakers are in use. If you change this here, then the "enhancements" provided by Tier Five will subtly change and this can dramatically affect the sound quality achievable - very important if you like your bass to be either bassy or burpy.

For instance, choosing "full range" stereo speakers for a headset will later give you different options than specifying a non-existent woofer. For good headphones capable of bass, it may actually be better to lie and say there... Read more

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A:Internet terrible during peak hours since upgrade!

I don't understand what "modem is on probation" means. If it is your modem then investigate to see if it is a problem. Is it DOCSIS 1, 2 or 3? I'm not sure what the actual maximum downloads for those specs are (you can look them up on the web), but an old (five years or more) or DOCSIS 1 modem may well be the issue. If it is the ISP's modem then you need to get them to investigate/solve any modem issue.

Otherwise there is nothing you can do except keep pestering your ISP. Speaking from the experience of having ISP issues for months and months (now working fine for three months) use various channels. In addition to calling there may be (sometimes difficult to find) ways to chat or email. If you don't get anywhere with a given chat session try again the next day because the rep will almost guaranteed be somebody different.

After a little while of using my speakers it starts to make a static/noise sound with the music. It goes away sometimes, but other time I force it away by switching the sound format on the speakers back and forth from 48000 Hz and 96000 Hz. After I switch it to any other option, it goes back to normal for a while. Is there a reason for this?

Welcome to TSG!

a better Video card would definately be a bonus for you, as well as possibly updating the sound.

Adding RAM couldn't hurt either. If you're getting choppy video and sound, try lowering the video and audio hardware accelleration as well as the audio sampling rate!

Hi all. I am having a problem with the sound on my PC. From the Windows sound when logging in onwards the sound is glitchy at best, and 70's robotic sounding at worst. It is like this for playing mp3 files and listening to music on the web. I have the latest Realtek HD driver installed and its still the same. I also have a Line 6 Toneport UX1 installed and have tried using that but the problem is the same. Strangely the problem tends to go after about 15 minutes after the computer has been switched on. My PC soundcard is Realtek ALC888/1200 @ ATI SB700 - High Definition Audio Controller

Any help with this would be great

thanks

A:terrible glitchy sound problem

I had this problem once.

I fixed it by reinstalling the video card driver and the soundcard driver.

Hello; I hope this is the right place for this question.  If not, I apologize.
For some quick background info, I have a Toshiba laptop (Windows 10) and a Sony bluetooth speaker that pair perfectly together.  I recently purchased a new Dell laptop (also running Windows 10) that's having some problems with the aforementioned speaker.  When I connect them via a cable, the sound is fine.  Similarly, when I initially pair them, the sound is as expected.  However, on any subsequent pairings, the sound is incredibly tinny, and the only way to achieve a fuller sound is to remove the device, reconnect it, and restart the computer (which is apparently needed to complete the device installation, which was never required on my other laptop, even on the first time I tried to pair the laptop to the speaker).
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Hi, i know this is an old card but i just built up another pc from old bits to play some games on and have a serious sound issue with it and windows 7.

The driver i have installed came from windows update called "Creative driver update for Creative EMU10K1 Audio Processor (WDM)".

The problem is the sound quality is terrible! It sounds almost like the bass has been turned up x500. Windows sounds are not so bad but its really apperent when playing games.

Any suggestions?

Windows 7 64-bit I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor My audio is working, but I'm getting "popping" noises every 15-30 seconds and it's really bothering me. I updated to the latest driver for Realtek AC'97 and I insalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers, but only the AC'97 shows up in the device manager. When I got to add/remove programs, it shows that HD Audio can be uninstalled, but I don't know if that means it's working. From reading around on the internet, some people said the HD Audio driver solved their problem, but I'm not sure if mine is actually working or not. I don't know much about computers, so please spell things out explicitly for me so I can just follow directions.

I have two pcs on a wireless network connected to a cable modem. One pc (Thinkpad) has no problem playing internet radio stations through wmp. The other one (Dell 4100) has problems with streaming audio. It can connect to the radio station fine (or download the audio file in either format) but then it keeps buffering while it's playing. I've tried just about everything I can find to fix it: editing the registry (MSoft tech note,) changing the network settings, changing the buffer rate but nothing seems to work. There is more than enough bandwidth to handle the flow of data, plus my cable company says it's not them (of course.) Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks.

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

A:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

Your system is not compatible for Windows 7 since there is no audio drivers for Windows 7. If the system is compatible with Windows Vista or XP I recommend sticking with that.

I'm on an HP laptop. I've noticed a problem where my speakers constantly sound like they're not pushing out what they are truly capable of. They sound slightly muffled and guitars don't come through as loud as they should. What I've noticed is that everything sounds great through headphones, but there is also a strange thing I should mention.

Let's say I'm listening to Led Zeppelin... The sound is muffled and what not but if I go into the "My Music" folder and then double click the "Alter Bridge" folder that holds the song I'm listening to (normally in a subfolder, the album), the audio clears up and sounds awesome. But I have to do this for every song (or audio clip) I listen to. Any help?

Hi everyone.
Just after a bit of advice really !
I just got my first MP3 player (well, 2nd, but 1st was my mobile phone and only held 15 tracks )
I have ripped lots of my cds to MP3 format, WMA format (both 128kbps and variable-40-75 kbps) and maybe its just my ageing hearing, but although i can notice a very slight difference in quality between the first 2, i can not hear any difference between the 2 WMA bit rates.
Just wondering why this would be as a track at 128 is 4529 KB and at 40-75 is only 2800 KB.
Your thiughts would be most welcome !!
Mark.

I know absolutely nothing about Audio. I know that my speaker set up has a subwoofer. That it connects to the back of my computer through a black, green and orange 3-way spliced cable. I know I took the computer apart to move it to a new case and that's when it started. I use the on board sound card to an ASUS A8N32 SLI board with the proper sound driver.

The assistance feature for the less informed, like myself, says there's something wrong with my green cable. There doesn't seem to be any tears or weak connections.

As for the problem itself. Sound is mildly distorted. There's severe bass tones? where there shouldn't be. Half of the sounds from 3d games like Oblivion, do not register.

A:Poor quality Audio

You should have a Realtek Aux console. Start/Programs/Realtek===> some drop down menu. In there you can set-up your speakers for 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 etc. also there should be a graphics equalizer where you can set base or there can be a tab just for setting how much sub-woofer (volume and cross-over frequency) I set my cross-over at 60Hz.

You need to tell it how many speakers you have, then set your sub-woofer and you should be ok.

Why does dell release such a bad quality driver since the hardware is perfectly capable of delivery good sound?

If you have WavesMaxx make sure that is not the problem. It only works with the Realtek driver, not the native, so try disabling its settings.
Or you could try a driver directly from Realtek.
1.Go to the Realtek downloads selection page. www.realtek.com.tw/downloads2. On the page click on "High Definition Audio Codecs".3. Check "I accept" and then "next".4. (optional) In the column named "Description" find the file named README and download it. That has the instructions for installing or updating.5. In the column named "Description" select your operating system and whether it is 32bits or 64bits from the top 2 choices in the list.6. In the column named "Download" click on one of the server names to download the driver.

It's an Asus X501A with Pentium 2020M Ivy Bridge and Intel HD Graphics.

I tried changing the output resolution, to tweak the audio properties, etc.

No success.

Any idea?

Thanks.

A:HDMI on TV no audio, poor quality image

Video and sound are separate, although both should be in the HDMI signal - IF THE PC Supports this.

When you plug in the HDMI cable most system will change the default audio playback device to HDMI. However, it sounds like yours is not doing this. With the HDMI cable plugged in, go to the Sound Panel, Playback section. the HDMI should be set as the default Playback device.

If you still cannot get HDMI audio, contact ASUS, since this is a new PC (or the place where you purchased it).

for example with Coax i know the gold connectors worked better then silver connectors. So my question is do the cables red yellow and white connectors have high and low quality cables or they all the same. If they have high quality cables what are the names of them and where can i find them.

A:Do Audio Video Cables quality matter much?

Red,White audio RCA are much the same.
It's haveing and useing a SVHS video cable instead of Yellow RCA.
If your TV has it for VCR's etc.that have it out.
But it also depends where you are. This is a N American reply, not GB.

So can anyone recommend me a level I should use that will be the most appropriate for my earphones?

Please respond as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance.

A:The audio quality I need for video and game playback.

That's very dificult to say, it depends on to many factors. From how sensitive your ears are to how detailed sound in games is. It could be different in different games. Best thing is to keep lowering until it's unsatisfactory for you. I don't think it matters a lot to game's performance, if that's what concerns you. Those settings for sound are all "up to", if something is recorded in low format, no settings in reproduction are going to make it better.

Hello. Hoping someone can help me. Since upgrading my Windows 7 to Windows 10, I've had audio problems. At first the audio quality was terrible (hissing, crackling) so I uninstalled and reinstalled my NVIDIA drivers. This fixed the problem but now I find that the audio quality gets worse over time. Once I reboot it goes back to pristine quality and that lasts a day or two but slowly the quality gets worse with more crackling. It's very annoying.

Any idea what's going on? Is it somehow tied to my RAM or some kind of cache that builds up over time?

I'm a noob so bear with me!

ok this problem has been plaging me for years. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400 windows 8.1.

As far as I can remember is it bad in windows 7.

A:Satellite Pro U400 - audio quality not good

To be honest, I have no idea what you mean exactly by ?quality is awful?.
I owned an Satellite U400 notebook is the past and I have to say that the sound quality was good enough.

The Satellite U400 is a small 13.3? notebook and the speakers were fitted to the notebook dimensions.
The Conexant sound chip is part of the motherboard and you will not be able to replace it.

If you want to use another sound card, you can try to use an external USB audio interface.
I use such external sound solution for my home recording studio.

The audio interface is connected to notebook?s USB port and the external speakers are commenced to the external audio interface.

By the way: Satellite U400 isn't is the list of Win 8.1 supported notebooks... so you will not find any Win 8.1 drivers for this unit on Toshiba driver website.

A:How to decrease audio quality without losing channels.?

To mess with more than two channels, you might actually have to pay for a program that can do it. I believe Nero has a wave editor that supports six channels in their multimedia packs. Sorry this isn't much help.

Hey folks! How the heck are ya?
I have a question about the sound quality of my new Cendyne 48x12x48 CD-R.
When I recorded audio (not music) onto a disc the sound quality isn't very good. In fact, it's kind of scratchy. Am I doing something wrong? This is my first experience with a writer. Could it be the discs I'm using (Imation CD-R)?
Please help.
Thanks and God Bless,
Peter

If you're having quality issues recording, check the audio settings in control panel first.

You may need to lower the sampling rate or the hardware accelleration to get the desired quality. Also, trying a different brand of disks might not me a bad idea either.

One other thing...

Make sure you have latest version of DirectX!

I have a few questions regarding sound quality. I've purchaed songs from Itunes (128kbps AAC) and from Amazon (256kbs MP3).

If I convert them to wave, which is lossless - is it still truly lossless? I mean, you take a 128kbps mp3 at 3mb in size and it shoots up to 30mb wave lossless. Is this accurate? I'm hearing impaired, so I cannot tell the difference as drastic as others can.

Also, which is the best sound quality all in all:

MP3 (Lame): 320Kbps / 44.1khz
WMA 10 Pro: VBR 98% / 96khz / 24bit
WMA 9.2 Lossless: VBR 100% / 48khz / 24bit 2 channel
WAVE uncompressed: 24bit DVD / 96khz / 2 stereo

I'll be listening in my car, burning on a DVD too.

I'm using dbpoweramp software to convert. Another thing, seems like my Kenwood DDX6019 car stereo doesn't play wav? If I'm not mistaking, isn't a regular CD in wave format?

Thanks for the tip.

No, when a music file is compressed some of the sound digitally subtracted out and if you convert to wave it can't be added back in so it's still lossy.

There all pretty close, there wouldn't be a noticeable difference, but the wave format is technically the best.

A regular CD and a wave file are both uncompressed, but a CD is formatted in a certain way to be playable on regular CD players. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV

Your car stereo will play both regular CD's and Mp3 CD's and DVD's. To get the most number of songs on a disc you should burn an Mp3 DVD.

The AAC files you could burn to Audio discs and play them like that or rip those to Mp3 and burn to DVD.
