I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer Aspire V5-473P laptop. Originally it was Windows 8 then upgraded to Windows 10. Couple of days ago the hard-drive suddenly died. We put in another hard drive and did a clean installation of windows 10. Now it works fine, except that battery shows as plugged in, not charging. So it can only run with adapter and can't use battery at all. We tried reset the battery (use the reset battery pinhole and disconnect/reconnect battery). Also tried delete the battery's driver. After reboot the driver installed by itself. But neither of these methods work. Any suggestion on how to fix it? Thanks!

I have an Aspire ES1-512-P8NA laptop.  When it is connected to an external power supply, the battery meter has recently started indicating that it is plugged in but not charging.  The amount of charge seems to be stuck at 95%.  I've read a number of articles and posts suggesting fixes which involve removing and then replacing the battery, but this model does not allow that - the battery appears not to be accessible from the exterior of the computer.  Is there any other way of tackling this problem?

Hello......
My Nephews laptops battery ran low and required charging. When the charger is plugged into the laptop the orange 'charging' light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds then, goes out for a further 6. This repeats continuously whilst the battery remains flat and the machine will not power up.
I have checked the output from the charger which is constant although I have no means, at present , of ascertaining the actual output values.
If there is anyone with any hints or clues I should be most grateful' Thanks.

A:Acer Aspire 5552 charging/battery issue

So the laptop will not turn on at all? Does it act the same if you remove the battery? If not the the adapter may be faulty, the DC jack in the laptop may have broken, or there's a motherboard failure in the laptop.

Testing with a known good and compatible power adapter would be the next step.

How old is the laptop, is it still under warranty?

I just bought a new battery for my Acer aspire 5570 from ebay. Its only charges for 20 minutes and windows power management detects it as a Unknown battery, and my Acer power management software says the battery is at 0% and does not go into sleep mode anymore.

Is this a battery problem or a software problem ... my old acer battery is at 50% capacity in about a year now and i really hope this problem is solvable or ill be permanently tethered to a outlet ....

HALP PLEASE

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Pent 4..

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Hey @EnigmaDimirti, Welcome to the forums. I'm here to help. I would strongly suggest Testing and Calibrating the Battery. Should that not solve the issue, I would suggest calling in for support to see about replacing the battery, as it should not be displaying "no battery is pluged in" when you run a battery check. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html If this helps, please hit that Thumbs Up, and Accept as Solution. Cheers,TechSurge.

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

I have just replaced my CMOS/BIOS battery today, as , I have faced some critical problem regarding regular BIOS date/time reset after system shutdown. But I want to know how do i recognize, that my new batter is totally ok or functional.

Battery Meter gadget shows that "battery Not charging"
Is it a gadget problem?

Is there any method available so that I can track that my new installed CMOS battery in PC is working fine?

Please help me.

A:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop had a very good battery life(>6 hours), but today morning it showed an error message saying  "Battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced." I updated the BIOS from A3 to A10, but it didn't help! The PC starts only if its plugged in and the battery charge is constant at 82%. What should I do?

A:Battery not charging, message says "Battery has experienced permanent failure"

Hello SHUBHAMSINGH.ARARIA,
It's quite possible your battery did suffer a failure; the Lithium-Ion chemical reaction may (which produces electricity) have finally broken down.
First thing to try is to run Dell's diagnostics. When you first power it on, press F2 to run the ePSA Diagnostics & see if any failures occurred.
Have you tried powering the laptop on with the power cord and battery, then once it's loaded removing the power cord to see if it stays on?
Another thing to try: remove the power cord & battery from the laptop, then hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord, power it on, then reconnect the battery.
From here, once it's on, you can try removing the battery again to see if it stays powered on or leave the cord connected to see if the battery begins charging.

Hope this helps!

A:Battery not charging

Pull the battery from the laptop and plug in the power supply. You can use the laptop without the battery.

Contact Dell and see what they say about the battery.

I could be wrong, but from what I've read - a complete discharge is not good on those types of batteries and the longer that a battery stays discharged, the more damage is done.

Hi, I recently bought an HP ENVY Notebook, and I updated my windows edition to Windows 10.I noticed 2 weeks ago that my battery is not working anymore. It is not charging : Its says "plugged in, charging" but its not charging.now my battery is empty, (its says 3%) and my "new" laptop , who is only 2 months, does not turn on unless it is plugged in. Do you have a solution for my problem ?? ps: I tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manger, but nothing happened !! Is this a windows update problem or a battery problem, although my laptop has only 2 months ?Thank you for your help !!

A:battery not charging !!

Hi there @Rodgee,  Welcome to the HP Support Community where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I wanted to reach out to you and help! I understand that your battery will not charge on your HP ENVY Notebook PC. You mentioned that you tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers and are not sure if it is an issue with the Battery of Windows Updates.  Please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet.  There are a couple of documents that you can use to try and figure out where the issue is. The first one I would suggest is the Battery Does Not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge document. If your notebook computer battery will not hold a charge, you are best to follow the instructions in this document step by step to troubleshoot the battery and see if it needs to be replaced.  You can also use the Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8) document. This will help you to determine the condition of your battery.  Have you tried to use the HP Support Assistant to download drivers and updates? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that needs updating. Did this reply resolve your issue or answer your question? If yes, then please share the good news! Let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. You can also show your appreciation by clicking the Thumbs Up. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with the results of the troubleshooting and include your Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?). Thank you!Have a great day!

Hi Jermyn,
It could be that you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software which is located in device manager.
Try this:

Quote:
Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
Expand the Batteries category.
Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver!!
On the Device Manager task bar, click Scan for hardware changes
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

I hope this helps!

Welcome to Sevenforums,

You might want to fully drain the battery before, then plug it again on wire powered to let it charge 100%.

You can drain it faster if you're on a switchable graphics system by choosing the ATI Performance.

To evaluate to battery performance you can follow this tutorial:

I have a new Z - with Win pre-installed on it and the battery in it only charges up to I read that this is supposed to prolong the battery life A number of posts indicated that this behaviour could be changed via the lenovo energy manager LEM but the only SW for the z - on the lenovo downloads site under LEM is a MB file called acpidriver exe When executing the program there is no indication or sign of anything being installed so I have no idea what it does to 60% Battery charging only The only other program that I found was Battery Gauge but that doesn't have any options for changing the charging limit Does anyone know how to reset charging to allow for a full charge Battery only charging to 60% nbsp Battery only charging to 60% Thanks for any infos nbsp nbsp Edit When checking the battery status via the Lenovo Settings App I always saw the status portion in the GUI and assumed that was it I just looked again and noticed a very small gray scrollbar on the right It always looked like there was nothing to scroll and I happend to click on the white portion and to my surprise there is a section below that that has exactly that option to stop charging between - I will turn it off and see if I can get a full charge out of it nbsp nbsp Edit Managed to get a full charge by turning off the Conservation Mode option nbsp

I also have this problem, my laptop is z40-75 80DW. I've installed Windows 10 Pro Anniversary edition 64bit, and I've installed ACPI driver version 1.5.0.14-20150824. I can not find the Lenovo Applications, or OneKey Optimizer, or Power Manager.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757 laptop, and when I plug in, the battery light comes on indicating it is charging. After 3 or so seconds, the light turns off. At first I thought it was just something wrong with the light, but when I turned the laptop on, the battery says "Plugged in, not charging" It has never done this before. Any suggestions?

A:Battery Not Charging!

Two possibilities - bad charger or bad battery. Hope for a bad charger, when is relatively cheap to replace. The cost of notebook batteries are outrageous. Also, see if there is a break in the charger wire by rotating the wire. If the light goes off and on, it's a break.

A:Battery not Charging

If the system is under warranty, call Dell for repair. If not, first try a new OEM Dell AC adapter.  If that doesn't get the system to recognize the adapter, replace the DC power jack next:
<<blog.parts-people.com/2016/03/01/dell-inspiron-15-5559-p51f-004-dc-jack-removal-installation/>>
And if that doesn't do it, replace the mainboard.
Without a recognized AC adapter, the battery will not charge (though the system will run).

Okay, when I drain my battery to 31% and below and plug-in to external power source, my battery wouldn't charge. My power settings are at High Performance, and it's a 6-cell battery from HP. Problems cease to exist when I am using Linux but it's been a problem ever since I was using Vista. I only know one solution to this: it's to remove the battery for 5 minutes or so, and then plug it back in.

Does anyone know the reason for this problem?

A:Battery Not Charging at around 31% and below

I know this does not help right away, but back when I got my first laptop with XP it had the same issue. It was also an hp laptop and shortly after, meaning just a few days after getting it, HP had a workable patch for it. If I am not mistaken it was a bios update. So Hit the HP website and see what they got rollin for drivers and Bios update.

Could there be a software problem with the computer? Is there any way to reprogram or reboot the charging program?

A:battery charging

The battery that will not charge does not have the circuitry in it that the computer is looking for to make it charge. You will have to purchase a special charger for it. The only other way around it is to purchase an OEM battery from IBM and that is mucho bucks....

Sometimes Windows says ¨battery no charge¨ but it?s a windows power state error, you could also try to update your BIOS first, also perform a Reset to your unit (remove adapter and battery then press and hold the power button for 30/60 seconds)

Tried to update my BIOS but there's no update for my windows 10. Tried to reset my unit by holding down the power button foe 30/60 seconds, but that didn't work. Also did a battery check on my old battery and my new battery with HP Support Assisant  and by reatarting and pressing the f2 button. It said that the battery is good. Then I Checked the power cord where it plugs into the computer and the pin inside the plug is in good shape but the battery's still not charging. With the old battery it charge when it got to under 10% then it would upto 10% and stop charging afther that.New battery had about 77% charde on it now it has about 74%. Computer will run with the buttery out but with the power adapter in

A:Battery Not Charging

You can try to Press F2 button at the power up and run a Battery test.If the test passes it may mean that the Battery is OK. For a BIOS update, try to check the same for windows 8.1 and see if there is an update available. The OS would not matter as long as it is a BIOS update as these are made for all the supported OS versions.

A:Battery is Not Charging

Hi, This may be worth trying. First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the PC to see if the battery now charges correctly. Best wishes, DP-K

Hello,

Just started having problems with battery plugged in and not charging, battery charge holds 96% not sure if that is good or bad.

Was wondering if going to device manager and clicking on Or select uninstall ACPI and scan for hard ware changes if this would work.

Have not tried this method yet. And I have not tried unplugging and let battery drain yet see if that might help.

Not sure if anyone knows how to fix battery plugged in not charging issue here.

I have searched for forum bout this issue and found nothing.

I have windows 8 64 bit.

Any suggestions is worth the wait.

Thankyou for reading.

Have a good day.

A:Battery not charging

I had this problem once with my laptop, to fix the issue I looked around and found this method:

1: Plug in your laptop to a power source
2: Open Device Manager
3: Open the battery drop-down list and uninstall the ACPI Battery driver you talked about in your post
4: Remove your laptop's physical battery
5: After a few moments, put your battery back into your laptop
6: In Device Manager, check for hardware changes (Right click the battery drop-down list and click "Check for Hardware Changes") and the driver should reinstall
7: Your battery should then start to recharge

Unfortunately this is a temporary fix and the "Plugged in not charging" bug may continue to happen. Tell me what happens next and I hope it works for you!

make sure your power adapter is plugged in tight and the power scheme in the System Tray of the computer when it is in Windows, says that it is not using battery but the Power Adapter. You might try plugging the power adapter into the wall socket directly instead of a surge protector. If that fails then your adapter is bad or the connector to the motherboard is.

Yesterday, my battery icon started saying "plugged in, not charging" I don't know if there is some system device or application to show why this happened. Is there something I can check out? Maybe some controller that says "charge laptop" or "do not charge laptop". Please help. I don't know where to look on my PC, and when the battery DOES run out I will be sunk!

I just went to one of your faq's and I remember now that I had changed my power option a day or so ago, to optimize (I had thought) my power usage. Now I'm kicking myself and so relieved. Because since last night it's been showing 95% available, and I've been using it a lot (even tho it's not charging) so I did this to myself.

My laptop only works through AC power. The laptop works off of the battery if the battery is charged, but the laptop does not charge the battery. If the battery is plugged in and I plug in the charger the charging light does not come on and the laptop does not power on. On the other hand, when I turn on the laptop and then insert the battery the laptop shows that the battery is charging but the battery does not actually charge up. I thought this was due to a bad battery since I have had this laptop for a couple of years so I bought a new battery but I have the same exact problem. I have tried a different charger but I also have the same problem. Laptop specs:HP Pavilion dv6-7043Windows 7  64 bit Battery:671731-0016CLNE06AX2G136 Any help would be appreciated

Hi amkazant,

Welcome to the HP Community! I understand your frustration with the battery issue. It could be hardware related with the battery connection on the laptop not reading the battery. It could also be software related. The Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted causing it not to read the battery. Follow the steps below and let me know how it goes.

Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in

Step 8: Turn the computer back with the power cord as well.

When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver and detect the battery.

Step 9. Go to Device Manager
Step 10. Select Batteries
Step 11. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 12. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller if it is still not reading the battery.

Thank you,

Service center changed some MOSFET and IC and it's working good but still unable to charge more than 45% with "plugged in, not charging" status. kindly let me know what to do in such case.

I have a Presario 2500 that I recently bought used. I bought a new battery for it. It wont charge, and I've had it replaced twice. I think it might be the charging circuit in the laptop. Is there a battery memory in the BIOS that will limit the charge?

In windows 7 I was able to maximize my battery life with 80% available not charging.

I'd like to change this as it shortens my time when unplugged.

How do I do this?

A:Battery Charging

You mean 20% not charging. This is a "feature" of some laptops, like Sony's and you have to install special drivers to get it to override it. Unfortunately, I have yet to find which driver it is and know if it works in Windows 8 yet. The Sony driver system is screwed up, you have to install them in the right order, and there's no documentation on which ones are for what purpose.. it's just stupid.

Plugged in the AC Adapter and started the notebook w/o the battery. Opened windows Control Panel, opened the Device Manager, and uninstalled Microsoft ACPI Compliant Method Battery (nothing else). After completion, shut down the notebook, unplugged the AC Adapter, reinserted the battery.    Nothing happen. Notebook would not come on.  Still have to use the AC adapter to use the notebook.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804. I have had it about a year; year and a half. In the past few days the laptop will not turn on when I try to start it from the battery. When the laptop is turned off and plugged into the AC outlet the battery charge LED doesn’t light up. I know that the battery is not charged and the LED should light up when I plug the laptop into the AC outlet. The laptop starts fine when it is plugged, but the battery does not charge. I have tried downloading an updated BIOS, but that did not help. Any suggestions?

Can anyone tell me for sure if the long running problem in WIN 10 with battery not charging has been fixed? If not, I won't touch the WIN 10 upgrade with a barge pole - free or otherwise.

A:WIN 10 & battery not charging

You must be hearing some odd rumors- I've had no problems with Windows 10 over the past six months, and especially nothing related to my battery. Here's the funny part: Windows 10 doesn't do anything to help charge your battery. So long as you have a working battery, a working battery port, a working cord, and a working outlet, your laptop battery should charge normally. The battery and hardware/BIOS will typically maintain itself; Your OS doesn't normally interfere.

I have a notebook HP that has been working fine Then tonight I noticed that my battery was not charging so I took it out The AC is powering the laptop but I was Battery charging not wondering if it is ok to use it without the battery on a daily basis It is at my shop and I don t use it on the road since I have an iphone If I don t NEED the battery do I have to hurry and replace the battery if that is the problem When I took the battery out I noticed it was rather warm It has been extremely hot in Ca the past week I do sometimes leave my laptop on overnight as I do tend to use it to listen to music or DVD while I sleep I just need to know if using it without the battery is ok Ok that is weird I just popped the battery in and now it is charging Maybe it got too hot Anyway my main question is is it ok to Battery not charging use just the power cord and not the battery nbsp

A:Battery not charging

should be OK to use without a battery - I have used a sony this way for a while - BUT you do not want the battery to fully discharge as that will damage the battery, assuming it was not a glitch and the battery is not faulty anyway - How old is the Battery ?
If its been on 100% full charge all the time , that maybe the issue , depending on age of the laptop

I just received my mini 10 yesterday and I thought all was well. HA! I only had 4GB of my 16GB formated but no big deal thanks to your forum I managed to fix that. I used it all last night liking this little machine. Last night I turned it off plugged it in and went to bed only to find this morning that it didn't charge? Whats up with that? Has anyone had this problem? When the mini is on it shows that it is running off AC power and battery charging (1%). However this number never changes. It doesn't charge. I tried simple things like removing the battery and putting it back in but no luck. I think I'm just going to return this one and give up on the mini because I'm afraid of future issues. I am running on the factory installed Ubuntu. If anyone has any suggestions or fixes before I send this back I appreciate it.

A:battery not charging

Those stupid HP batteries are half the cost of the mini and they die easily.

Overheat is the usual killer!

Go to device manager and double click on (batteries)

find the battery and click it

then right click it and uninstall

Shutdown mini

Remove power adapter then battery

reinsert battery then adapter

Turn on mini

wait a few if the battery icon does not show in system tray then

right click computer goto properties

click on (Action)

click (scan for hardware changes)

it should then find the battery

see if its charginng, if not reboot

Good luck

Brooklyn..

BTW dont leave the mini plugged in and sitting ontop of blankets or pillows.

Hi there I ve been having a problem with my charger for a while now but it wasn t serious until recently A month or two ago my charger went from working completely normally to suddenly not being "no and then is charging battery detected" in/not battery plugged recognised This wasn t a big deal however because by holding the charger a certain way to the left kind of twisted or bringing it underneath the battery plugged in/not charging and then "no battery is detected" laptop it would charge like normally For the past few weeks however a notice has been popping up saying quot The AC power adaptor type can not be determined quot and then that follows up with a message underneath that stating that I should use a dell charger this is the original dell charger we got with the laptop quot This message however didn t matter back then because by twisting the charger a bit it would charge and so the message was irrelevant and would only pop up when the charger was plugged in and not twisted as far as I can remember Over the past couple of days though i ve noticed for my battery sign to sometimes randomly change to an X and when you hover over it it says quot no battery detected quot It will then randomly a second or two or a few minutes later switch to quot plugged in not charging quot and then to quot plugged in charging quot fluctuating randomly and for different intervals of time between these signs This as well wasn t much of a problem as my laptop was still charging at times and therefore I knew it wouldn t run out Now however the quot plugged in charging quot has completely disappeared and it fluctuates between quot plugged in not charging quot and quot battery not detected quot My charge at the moment is on so i m getting worried Ofc when the charger isn t held positioned a certain way it still doest recognise it and therefore works as it normally would without a charger the charge decreasing Do you possible know why this could be happening Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows bit Processor Intel R Core TM i - U CPU GHz Intel Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card Intel R HD Graphics Family Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard Dell Inc G Antivirus Kaspersky Internet Security Updated and Enabled nbsp

A:battery plugged in/not charging and then "no battery is detected"

What is the exact model of Dell laptop you have? Look underneath on the label for Model information
For Dells of that time period, you must use a genuine Dell replacement AC adapter or you will get the reduced performance at startup message.... the Dell adapters so I have read, have a chip inside that informs the BIOS of the laptop that they are indeed, genuine Dell adapters.

Read about this issue here- and especially about the little test you can do before your power is all gone- you should do it just once, and I think you will get the "Unknown" message....

http://www.laptop-junction.com/toast/content/inside-dell-ac-power-adapter-mystery-revealed

Note that there is more than just one thing that can be wrong- the motherboard, the adapter chip, the power jack.... Please do NOT attempt the adapter repair at that site.... The power jacks can be replaced by a good repair shop that does soldering on motherboards.

test yours and if you do need a Dell AC adapter they can still be found but it does take some hunting since a LOT of helpful sales sites claim "Genuine Dell Replacements" but I have tried some of those and they did not work but when a real Dell AC adapter was connected, that BIOS message disappeared.

look on the label of the LAPTOP and see what AC Adapter watt rating ....ex: 65watt or 90w..... yours calls for and purchase the correct model.

I can help you find a genuine Dell if needed but test things first. Hope you can do this before the battery is all gone.

Hi, I have been having a quite critical issue with my laptop recetly. Ocassionaly I accidently run my laptop flat as everyone does but when I plug the power cable in the LED indicator does not switch on to say the battery is charging. The laptop battery also does not charge as I left it on for a few hours plugged in and it still did not charge. When the laptop is powered up and running connecting the power lead works as it should. I can ocassionally get the computer to charge by removing the battery for a long period of time (around 30 minutes) and then replacing it. This sometimes works and sometimes does. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Thanks in advanced.

If what you're saying is the problem is that the charger cannot charge the battery, but the battery itself can hold electricity, correct? This means you need to replace your charger with a new one. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't bite. :3

In cases like this, first, try using another power outlet, then if that doesn't charge it, you may need to order a new power adapter, as it may have failed.
