I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! When I try to switch on my computer a black screen appear with this error:"The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now. " Do I have to bring it to a repair service point or can I solve this problem from home? Thank you in advance,Isabelle

I am getting this message, the system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. There's no
box to type password, I just click OK and it goes to the user name. I click on that and it logs on. When I get get the message there is a log on box in the background you can see.

I've tried this, but it didn't work :

click Start, click Run, enter control userpasswords2. Probably the box Users must enter a user name and password... is not checked; if that's the case, check it and click the Apply button. Now uncheck the box and click OK. When prompted, enter the username and password that should automatically log on at start-up. Or, to disable the automatic log-on, simply uncheck the box and click OK.

A:system could not log you on message at startup

Listen to what you said: username and domain? should be username and password

ok when you are booting up and you get to the login box, press ctrl, alt and then delete
twice, should get a classic login box, username and password login and then run
antivirus and spyware scans.

I've made some changes to my startup configuration in MSCONFIG.
(BTW, I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit on this computer, not my original rig)
But now, every time I start my computer, I get this message.

I always check the box for "never show this message again", but it doesn't work.

Plz help, thanks!

When i startup my new-ish laptop (Dell 64bit i7processor running windows 7) i keep getting a black screen with a message in white letters reading:-

"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is OS.
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.
To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 seconds."

When i didn't press any key to escape the message it remained static like that for over an hour. Can anyone explain what is happening and how can i maintain a healthy disk in the first place to avoid this message?

A:Checking file system on C message on startup

odd that it should hang on that screen :/
to keep a healthy disk, mainly just always shut down your computer properly. unplugging it or holding down the power button aren't the HDDs best friends :P
I'm afraid i'm not sure how to fix it hanging on the screen. Normally when I get that message it just scans it. Also unplug all external storage drives, just to check if that could be the problem.

I'm running windows XP on my Mac Book. I have it partitioned for that. Anywho I hadn't used this computer in a very long time (since 2008) because the screen was cracked. Got that fixed and everything worked fine for like a few weeks then the battery stopped charging and now I have to use the cable to get power to the Mac Book. So I held down option button one day while starting it up to choose my windows xp side and I get this message saying windows was missing windows\system32\config\system on the black screen. Anyway I have the original windows xp installation disc. So I tried to start windows with the disk so that I could run windows repair. Then when I press 1 as the option to start windows it gives me a blue screen of death. What can I do .....? Where to start...?

A:Windows\system32\config\system message on startup

Hi ..
A couple of options, but since this is older, sounds like the hard drive may be failing, however bad_pool_caller is often a device driver problem, a repair install might help and certainly will not do any harm.Repair XP by install over the top of existing system
1/ Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
2/ When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. Now - To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER.DO NOT choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).
 -   Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
 -   Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.
 -   Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.
Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears.
Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.Repair XP http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If you know the type of HDD you can try the general tests on it, but I do not know if you run a Windows or Mac system ....

I know this is a bit vague, but others may have more ideas -

Thanks.

A:DLL error message at startup

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I don`t know what your thread title has to do with your problem/s.

In future please would you try and be as descriptive as possible?

Also would you please fill in your system specs in user profile at the top of any page just click on edit profile.

The bridge.dll is an adware programme. Please see HERE for a possible solution.

I would also recommend that you go HERE and follow the instructions very carefully. Print them out if you can.

Once you have done that then go HERE for instructions on how to post your Hijackthis log.

I am using Verizon Online DSL and get the following error when I turn on my machine:

This appears every time I boot up my computer. It's really annoying, and I wondered if anyone else had this problem and knew how to fix it. The message appears in a Verizon Online Updates error message dialog. Any advice would be great.

P.S. Once I hit OK and close the Verizon Online Updates - Welcome to Verizon Online Updates dialog box that appears along with the error message, I am able to access the Internet and proceed fine.

Thanks,

A:Need help - get an error message at startup

hmmm.....maybe the update is running at startup and see if you can disable it. what you need to do is to clic on start -> run -> type in "msconfig" without the "" and then on the startup tab, look for the verizon update and see if you can disable it. then reboot the computer and then see if the problem goes away.

you can try to always update you verizon stuff manually. but do this and see if the error goes away. have you tried contacting your ISP about this problem?

A:Error message on startup. Need help!!1

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop and run from the desktop and not any other folder on your computer**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results"
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re enable the protection again after combofix has finished
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Close any open browsers and any other programs you might have running
Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. If you are using windows XP It might display a pop up saying that "Recovery console is not installed, do you want to install?"
Please select yes & let it download the files it needs to do this
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review
****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell us when you reply. Read HERE why we disable autoruns

Well SysWOWell SysWOW64 refures to Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit which allows you to run 32bit application on a 64bit system. I haven't seen an xpvga.dll  in windows 8.1 before and I have found it on http://www.dll-files.com/ so, quickest fixis to back up your data and re install window 8.1

I then found the service but it is all greyed out... I can't do anything with it at all.

I also found an entry that said windows was loading dynamic link librarys for all running software and I should check some list and make sure all is ok or summat or nuffin or wat?

If I re-install W7 with my digital download do I have to de-activate it first or summat or nuffin?

really appreciate any kind of help here guys...

Everytime i started up my computer i got a message saying "Windows was unable to load a cerntain file, a backup file has been loaded." I'd click "OK" and it would go away. Is this a sign of a bigger problem?

P.S. I have also had problems with video drivers and games crashing could this be related?

A:Startup error message

what is the name of the 'certain file' ? (and does windows name the backup file)
What is your operating system?
what are the specs of your pc? (not forgetting your graphics card)
what games are crashing?

Hello,

I'm running XP pro on a Dell D820 laptop.

On startup I am receiving the error message " docmgr.exe - Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because wxvault.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I do not know which application the error message is referring to!

After a search, the file wxvault.dll is located at two places.

C:\i386 and

C:\Program Files\Dell\Embassy Trust Suite by Wave\Embassy Trust Suite\Document Manager Lite\System32

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A:Error Message on Startup

hi, Looks like it would be part of the Intel motherboard programs that should be on a CD that came with the system or the motherboard if you purchased that as an upgrade at some point:
"""Embassy Trust suite uses the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chip on the motherboard to give you the latest in security combined with productivity features when protecting documents, securing passwords, generating digital certificates, encrypting email, logging on to Windows, managing security preferences, and more. """ (Quote from the site in link below)

http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/software/ets/

check the site for tech support, maybe just simply reinstalling would fix it but there may be other steps to take first, I dont know...

If the program came installed as part of the Dell system, it may be able to be reinstalled through the Dell Application Recovery utility, check from Start> All Programs> Dell or Dell Application Recovery....

Start up the application recovery thing, look for "Reinstall one application" entry.

Or, it may be an a separate CD for Embassy> part of the motherboard's drivers CD since this is a chip installed on the motherboard you are dealing with. You should check the support documentation for the program and the motherboard>>> you may have the manual for the board, look in that since the chip is part of it.

Not to alarm you, but there has been a vulnerability found in DocMgr which is also part of what you are dealing with> http://secunia.com/advisories/18803/

Says there it is still not patched, you can look up the version you have and check.
Perhaps if you post a Hijackthis log the experts can check and see if any malware is present...
If you need directions for Hijackthis just jump over to the TSG Security forum, read some threads, many of them have the download link and directions to get and use Hijackthis to save and post a log for review, that is
our first step in diagnosing for malware.

A:Error message upon startup

From auhma.org description --0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
A problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.

* My first best guess is that either you have bad sectors on your harddrive or your harddrive is failing.

* You could possibly slave your drive in another system and copy your important stuff onto a flash drive and/or burn to a disk. If the other drive has a harddisk diagnostic utility you can test your slave drive by running both S.M.A.R.T. and Long tests. Make sure you do the Long Test. Seagate Tools will work with many harddrives not just their own.

Hi there,

Every time I start XP a small window with the following error message occurs:

Whilst not a serious problem (hopefully), it is rather annoying, and I was just wondering how I might get rid of it.

Thanks,
Best regards,

A:Error Message on Startup

Hi Matt,

I just did a search for c0000013 and found a lot of problems showing up on the web. Seems something is trying to access one of your CD drives and complains when it finds nothing there. It's likely some adware that go on your machine. A good malware scan might get rid of it for you.

Best regards,

Logonhook.exe usually belongs to the McAfee data backup program. I'd suggest uninstalling it and checking to see if that fixed it. If so, you can download a fresh copy and install it and the errors should not reappear.

Hi,

My name is Jason and I'm brand new to the forum with a question. I have Windows XP and after logging in under my name to start Windows, I receive an error message saying
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\gycesrkc.dll
the specified module could not be found

I've searched for the problem on google and yahoo. I found similar error messages with different endings after the system32\ such as system32\bridge.dll and others, but not my particular case.

Many various answers were given on how to fix the problem but I thought I'd go to the forum and get some one on one help to be sure I remove this correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Jason

A:Startup error message

You won't find it becuase it is a made-up name of some infection that you probably removed in a scan. You would do well to scan with more than one malware scanner to be sure that there are not others present.

For the problem you are having, download and run Autoruns. When it tells you in its status bar that it has finished scanning, look through the list (or use its search finction) to find the entry for that dll and delete it. It is no longer present, anyway.

Sometimes when I start my laptop, I will get an error that says 'Error: could not connect to API'. Does anybody know how I can fix this. Thanks.

A:API ERROR message at startup...

API refers to Application Program Interface. Since this only occurs at startup one cause could be a program that has been uninstalled but the 'startup' for the program is still there but it can't find the API. It could also be something you have installed but need to be connected to a certain server or website to run.

I would start\run type msconfig go to the start up tab and look for something you uninstalled recently.

Hi, when turning on my computer frequently I'm getting the message "The instruction at 0x7c80af07 referenced memory at 0x7f93ffb5. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate or click on cancel to debug" I click on debug and it restarts the computer and seems to go fine the second time. Can someone please tell me what this means and why it's happening.

Thanks

A:Error message upon startup

The cause can have a dozen reasons.
It could be faulty RAM, but that should show up as unreliability afterwards
It could be a flakey area on the hard drive, causing an incorrect loading of a driver or system file.
It could be a dodgy or damaged driver.

etc.

I would opt for the driver issue first, if one is damaged when loading initially it could be the cause. Renew motherboard video and audio drivers.

Run MSCONFIG and select the Startup tab. Then look for it. If you don't find it select the Services tab and look for it there. If that fails also Run REGEDIT and search for it there and delete any reference for it.

Hi,

Everytime my Windows XP starts, an error message as below appears. it slowing down the windows loading process. My antivirus (Avira Pro) did not detect any virus.

Windows cannot find "c:\documents and settings\extensa46302\pwd.exe." Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button and then click search.

Hopefully somebody can help me solve this problem. Thanks.

A:Error message at startup

HelloA "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.Credit to quietman7

Hi,

My PC had crashed a few times last week but I managed to "revived" it.

Right now when I start my PC. There is always a message as shown below:

"Floppy diskette seek failure
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

I am very puzzled with this because I don't have a floppy disk drive!

And the worse thing is that a few of my applications is not working as a result of that!

My PC Specification:
Dell Dimension 4700
Pentium 4, CPU 3.00 GHz, 2.99GHz, 504MB of RAM
Windows XP home edition

Please advice.

Yours sincerely,
Steve

Hi

That appears to be a programme that detects when a digital camera is attached to one of the usb ports. I would suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the programme. Try also going Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services to disable from there.

About 50% of the time that I start up my computer I get an error message as soon as the desktop is visible (before anything is on the desktop though.) The error message says something like "Windows has encountered a problem and must restart." Then there's the option to click "Close" or "Debug", click either results in the computer freezing.

Any suggestions?

A:XP Startup error message

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

I would suspect that you don't want to restart the missing DLL.
It's most likely a virus that was removed - and your anti-malware program didn't get all the remnants of it.

To stop it from starting, please use this free application: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx

it sounds like a program you have set to startup is causing that problem.
you have 1 of 2 options:

1) go to start -> startup and remove the program from the startup folder
or
2) Uninstall the problem program, then remove it from the startup folder.

.Net Framework Problems

First suspect is that you still have a .net problem. Checkout the fixes at:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx.
You might also run c:\sfc /scannow to repair any missing or damaged windows files. (You may need the XP install CD)

The ATI hotkey poller is used if you want to use hotkeys to change display settings, but it's not necessary if you don't use that function. I have it disabled on my machine and ATI still works fine. Go into Administrative Tools > Services, disable ATI HotKey Poller, reboot and see if that gets rid of the error message.

Hi all,
I am wondering how to get rid of an error message at startup.
I recently purchased a new computer and started to install internet software (sympatico) before I realized that windows XP takes care of that itself.
On startup the computer now looks for a file called vtruckdbg and asks for the setup disk to be installed, I can install the disk but an error message comes up which includes this vtruckdbg file not found message.
I can also hit cancel and the computer boots fine, it is just very annoying to get this message on each startup. How do I get rid of it?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Svchctrl.exe is Trojan

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You might cure this by going to the Microsoft website and dowloading some up to date .Net packages. Have a look in your Control Panel>Add and remove Programmes with the Show Updates box ticked, to see which .Net packages you already have, and post back if you don't have anything after version 1.1.

Have you recently removed any viruses/malware from the system? This could be a leftover from that.If so, first I'd suggest that you try a couple of these free, online scanners to see if anything has slipped by your protection:(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)http://housecall.trendmicro.comhttp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Scan Only - no removalhttp://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htmlhttp://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtmlhttp://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asphttp://onlinescan.avast.com/http://ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspxhttp://www.eset.com/onlinescan/<links compiled on 02/14/2008> After ensuring that your system is clean (if you don't, the malware may mutate and become harder to remove) you can use this free application to remove the startup entry that's calling that file: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...s/Autoruns.mspxJust scroll down the list until you find the image path that has that DLL file in the name and remove the checkmark on the left to stop it from loading.

A blue screen flashes with a boot disc error or something like it (according tomy sister the message changes from time to time) and then it acts like its going to start up but it reboots itself and the process repeats.

Normally after the blue screen (which flashes by so fast its kind of hard to read it all or any of it) a black screen comes up saying there's a cable loose or to check for loose cables, then to install a boot disc or something similar.

Its been working perfectly up until last night.

The message reads.....

"Reader_sl.exe unable to locate component"
"This app. has failed to start b/c MSVCP7.dll was not found"
I think this maybe have to do w/ my deleting this program my search assistant from the add/remove button but im not sure

thanks!

A:Error Message on Startup

Reader_sl.exe is part of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Or if you want, just delete the icon from the Start > Programs > Startup. The app is really not necessary to run at startup.

A:Error Message On StartUp

WildTangent is known malware, I'm afraid. You'll probably see wcmdmgr.exe in your start up tray. Ad-Aware is good for removing this

So too are the methods listed here:
