Preferred Solution: Touch screen and Touch pad problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Ideapad S415 touch screen has suddenly stopped working.  I've had a tech connect to my PC and try a BIOS reload of default settings, plus unistalling all "HID" devices in Device Manager with no resolution.  I've also tried a system restore with no luck. The system properties does see the touch capability. Suggestions? Thanks.

A:Ideapad S415 Touch - touch screen stopped working

hi Hersh,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,
                  If not
I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Team about the Issue as this may be a device detection issue.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but this post piqued my interest. I use the Logitech 620 touch mouse on a Windows 7 box at work. I find a little touchy and has to tweaked. But I haven't tried the 620 on Windows 8. Because I'm always looking for the perfect mouse, I think I might just pick up the 400 tonight and let you know.

A:Lenovo S210 Touch broken LCD and Touch screen

Hi Magnutus, welcome to the forums.

Please check if you Lenovo S210 is on warranty under with this tool.
After that you can open a ticket with Lenovo for the screen to be fixed, if it is not under warranty it will have a cost.

If you are the guys that like to fix it yourself (and it is not under warranty) I can recommend you to check the support site for your model, read the Hardware Maintenance Manual (on the documents area) and check how the machine is organized on the inside. On the parts lookup page you can find the parts number so you can find a replacements for the component that is giving you issues.

I hope this links helps you.

I have a kiosk on which I've just installed 8.1 pro. It has an oem touch screen manufactured by General touch (p/n st6001u). I've installed the driver and it seems to work but Windows still says "no pen or touch available". My customers using the
kiosk will need to type on screen in addition to just clicking. Is there any way to for the OS into touch mode? I believe under 7 there was an option in Windows features but I can't seem to find anything on 8. Google has been no help.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Check the Touch funtionality in OKR environment.
Turn off the computer and Turn it back on and right away start tapping F2.
Select Recovery. Once in the Recovery screen Test the touchscreen by touching any of the option if it will respond.

If the touchscreen works in OKR Environment, I suggest you perform a One key recovery (expect dataloss).

If the touchscreen still did not work in OKR Environment, I suggest you call Lenovo Technical Team for assistance.

Hi, I've recently formatted my Laptop HP Envy m7-n101dx (touch) and installed Win7  Ultimate (64 bit).  I have downloaded all drivers available on HP website and installed on my laptop.  There is only one unknown device left (acpi\msft010), and I'm unable to to find the correct driver.  My problem is I'm unable to use the touch screen of the laptop, I've googling and found that is there must be a problem with with the Human Interface Device, but when I've checked the Device Manager no Human Interface Device is on the list.  Please could anyone help me out.  Thanks in advance

Hello @JeffJadoo, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the Touch Screen, and wanted to assist you! Did the notebook originally ship with Windows 10?  How did you go about formatting the notebook, and installing Windows 7?  You may be able to use the Recovery Manager to restore the drivers, however, based on how you installed Windows, the Recovery Partition may already be removed.  You can also try reviewing the following document, to see if the information helps: HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 8) Please post back with the results.  It is possible that the Touch Screen may not be supported for Windows 7 on that particular notebook. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

So I have got a Lenovo Y50-70 with 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display for about two years now. I've accidentaly dropped my backpack, while the laptop was in it and cracked it's screen so I need to replace it. The screen in the cracked part is working as it was working before the accident, the crack is on the glass. So I was wondering if I can replace my 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display with a 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD Non-touch Display? Is it possible?I've read that whether screen you are changing, its working depends on the quantity of pins on the Video signal connector.

Yesterday I was on my laptop and before I shut it down it went into what looked like a different mode. I booted it up this morning and it is still in this mode. It looks like touch screen mode but I do not have a touch screen.  The icons on the task bar are spaced out and there is a back button on the task bar too which is not normally there. When i right click against the task bar, one of the buttons says "Show touch keyboard button".  All of my files are spead out as if to have room for touching if I had a touch screen but I do not. I am finding this very annoying because I cannot get onto my desktop properly and is not in the right mode. Please help!

Hi everyone,

I have just installed windows 8 on to my touch screen media pc. The problem is that it firstly has a 20px non touch screen boarder so i can't do the swipes required to navigate the o/s and secondly it isn't setup for a touch screen (when i click on a text box the keyboard does not come up). I am using windows 8 on my tablet so I know how it should work with a touch screen.

When I turned my Inspiron 11 3168 on today, the touch screen and the two USB ports (USB 2.0) on the right side weren't working. Multiple resets did nothing. when i ran the diagnostics tool on dell's support page, it showed that my mouse and USB key were plugged in to the two USB ports on the right. However, neither devices would actually work unless they were plugged into the left USB port (USB 3.0). i tried a couple different mice and USB keys and encountered the same problem. Also, since the touch screen didn't work, i was forced to fail the tests in the diagnostics tool.

Thanks, N

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

A:New week old Inspiron 11 3000 3558 (touch) stuck or broken button on touch pad--warranty parts replacement?

This is an fyi about the final resolution of this issue.  After a lot of arguing dell sent me what was supposed to be the touchpad but what I got was only the plastic palmrest no touchpad. Then because it's a "daughter card" I got more argument about the touchpad.  I got hot enough that I opened up the back, lifted out the battery, took out the two funky looking screws and the whole pad just fell right out of the machine.  The buttons seemed fine so I screwed it back down, put the battery back in and closed it up.  It's now great, the button was indeed hung up on the edge of the plastic palmrest.  This is a very well designed inside machine, it all screws down and all connections are with plugs or ribbon cables.  I wrote back to dell and told them they need to fire their tech manual writers because they're idiots, a monkey could have done this.  Apparently it is not easy to find only the mouse pad it's generally sold with the palmrest from what I can tell.  This whole machine is so well designed I scratch my head why the cpu isn't socketed unless they decided there was no room for a socket etc, which I can see that argument.  So if your mouse pad quits try popping it out first it may just be hung up.

also if i go into control panel and search for tablet there should be a function "tablet that will let me select which monitor is a tablet.

Touch mat wont let me use the touch only the mouse and the light stays on even when not in sprout workspace

A:touch mat not woring with touch only can use mouse

Hi @frostygirl13, and thank you for your post.Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. My understanding of your post is that you are dealing with two issues, one, the projector lamp is on, when you expect it to be off, and two, the touch mat is not working for you. I am happy to give you a hand with this. For the first issue with the projector, I found the following post, with suggestions from forum experts @DavidPK and @WyreNut:  Sprout Projector.  This may be difficult to do based on your second issue. For the second issue with the touch mat, I would first make sure that you have all of your drivers up to date, and make sure you have the latest update for Sprout Workspace installed. You can use the HP Support Assistant, to check for updates. Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hello all.
I have a non touch E5450 base, I want to put a touch screen top assembly onto it. I have sourced the whole top assembly including hinges. But I was wondering if the Hinge covers are different on this particular model depending on the screen used? I know some of the 7000 series have different hinge covers, but not sure about the 5000 series.
Comparing photos on Google has been inconclusive and I am unable to find a part number.

Anyone able to help me?

Cheers!

Although I?m not using Windows 7 OS yet, what it has to offer & all that I?ve seen, it's pretty impressive. I'm in the process of deciding whether to go with the upgrade W7 or purchase a new Laptop/Notebook? One concern or complain I must state. I understand that Windows 7 comes with touch screen capabilities, but ONLY works with a human touch? Being physically disabled & cannot use my hands at all I type by using a head-pointer with an eraser for a tip. Yes, I?m not going to be dishonest here, I?m using an aftermarket touch screen with Vista, but I?m leery on how (or if) I can still use it with W7? I don?t know how, but I would just love to get in contact with a MS Developer to express my views. Am I correct in assuming that the touch screen option requires a human finger touch?

A:Touch screen in W7?

W7 isn't limited to touchscreens that only respond to finger operation but to touchscreens whose controllers identify them as HID touch devices, a relatively new category. W7, like its predecessors, recognizes HID mouse devices, which most touchscreens have been until recently. Treating a touchscreen as a mouse has never delivered the best user experience, as it precludes right-click-on-hold, calibration, edge acceleration, and many other valuable facilities. Consequently, vendor-specific drivers, which do provide these facilities, have been used. W7 accepts most of these drivers. In the WDM driver stack, these are lower-level drivers. To the OS, the device still appears to be mouse. Therefore, none of the new touchscreen-specific features of W7 will be available.

The reason that you might have heard that only finger operation is supported is that W7 recognizes as touch devices only those that identify themselves as HID-touch. Of these, only the ones that generate touch-specific events allow you to use gestures and multi-touch. The two technologies most likely to support these are capacitive, which requires finger activation, and wire-matrix digitizer, which requires an electronic pen. W7 can still use other touchscreens, including old ones, but the new capabilities will not be available.

Looking into using a touch screen monitor. I use Windows 7 Home Premium and I understand that Windows Touch is available on the version.

If I would get the monitor, do I need to find drivers or are they include with Win 7?

Is anyone using a touch screen monitor now?

Looking at Windows 8, I have been playing with the Consumer Preview copy and it looks like a touch screen would be useful with Win 8 if a person would decide to upgrade to that.

Thanks

A:Touch screen anyone using

Hello Jack, welcome to Sevenforums!

Touchscreen is useful, and fun. It is by no means neccessary, however. Windows has a standard driver, but for a touchscreen, you will want to look up the driver on the monitor's manufacturer's website. There are 2 different drivers - 64 and 32 bit. Make sure you get the right one according to your system.

If I were to use touchscreen, it would be because of application(s) that require it, or are easier to use because of it.

I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad S510p Touch laptop (Running Windows 8, x64 bit), and have recently installed updates after not having updated it for three months.

Now I am having issues with the touch screen. It was working fine before, but now it is not responding to any of my input. The drivers seem to be all up to date, and I've installed all the available updates for my PC.

Does anyone have a solution for my problem? I don't want to have reinstall Windows or anything like that, so please don't suggest it unless I really have to.

Thank you!

My touch screen stopped working under Windows 8. I tried every step I could find on these forums - disabling the touch screen driver, restarting, updating the driver - with one exception; under Component Tests in my HP Diagnostics UEFI, there is no Touch Screen component listed. It is there under Device Manager etc., but cannot be found in the UEFI. I updated the computer to Windows 10 and the problem remained. I restored the computer to its factory settings and the problem has remained. There is no damage to the computer, which is still quite new, and which works perfectly in every other respect. Previously, the touch screen might stop working and a restart would solve the problem, but it has not worked at all for some time now. Any suggestions?

it all depends on if you want to be able to use the new "multi-touch" features, if you do you will be very limited to the screens you can buy.

I'm planning to buy a new laptop but will never be using the touch screen. Will I lose any functionality in Win10 by just using a mouse and keyboard with a touch-screen laptop? Do touch screen models use a different version of Win10?

BTW, I know I can buy a non-touch screen model and may do that, but we're looking for a large screen and non-touch choices are limited.

A:Not using touch screen

There's no problem with that, any icons or tiles are clickable with mouse, just like everywhere else. For touch screen devices there is "Tablet mode" and can be turned off to behave same as any other desktop/laptop. If device doesn't have touch screen, Tablet mode is disabled by default.

Tablet Mode - Turn On or Off in Windows 10

There's no special version of Windows for such cases except for Windows phones.

A:Touch pad Problems

Hello& welcome to TSF,

okay to let you know the (msconfig ) is a tool to trouble shoot your system / it is not ment for long term use

what you need to do is get a third party program for controlling your start up

what i would do is go back and undo any changes that you have made in (msconfig)

here is a link to a great program

http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...bar_d4191.html

if you are useing IE then you need to wait for the yellow bar so you know that you are getting the right program

also from my book for my clients

This is how to operate CCleaner

1.Select (Start)
Now select

2. All programs
Now select

3. CCleaner

4. The program is opened and you are now at the opening window. You should see in this order four buttons named
Cleaner
Registry
Tools
Options

5. First button you need to select is the cleaner button ( if you have not checked this program out yet then it should be still set up as the Tech. has set it) DO NOT CHANGE ANY OF THESE SETTINGS unless you are going to perform a total hard cleanup. Now you will notice at the bottom of the window that there are two other buttons. One will be on the left-side of the internal window, and the other will be on the right-side of the internal window.

6. First you need to select ( analyze ) now the program will proceed to perform its function of searching out and finding all the unnecessary ( CRAP ) that is stored on your computer from basic use.

7. Now the program has finished finding the ( CRAP ) and you need to select the ( Clean now ) button. Now this program will proceed to ( Delete/ Remove/ Destroy/ Uninstall ) this ( CRAP ) from your computer. Now you will need to select ( Clean Now button ) once again for this program scans your computer 2 times and you will notice that it will find more ( CRAP ) on the second pass of this scan.

8. This next button which will be the ( Registry ) button YOU DO NOT USE THIS BUTTON UNLESS directed by a tech

9. This next button ( Tools ) when selected will open a new window that will have two options in it ( 1. Uninstall information: do not mess with any of the information in this window for you will remove the uninstall portions of these programs and will not be able to remove these programs from your computer ) (2. next button is (Start Up) now this will show you everything that starts with your computer when you power your computer on, you will now have the options to remove / prevent/ stop programs from starting with your computer when it loads. Now you must (very, very) careful on what you decide that needs to start with your computer for if you select the wrong entries you can prevent your ( Anti-Virus/ Spyware/ Firewall/ or any protection that is installed on your computer from starting to which will render your computer vunerable to be infected while on the Internet).

10. Now you must / contact your Tech. to find out which programs can be disabled from starting with your computer.

Hi, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I have gone through your issue of touchscreen digitizer has been broken. So there are Two option: 1.  If your product is under warranty then contact HP call center and asking for that hardware replacement in HP service center. So hp executive will help you as needed. Also you can call if it's out of warranty and want to fix it. 2. You can purchase online also , as few online sellers are selling that product and fix it on your own. I would recomend the option 1. Hope this will help. Thanks.  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

Hi there
Hopefully not

I HATE TOUCH SCREENS. Also with Swine Flu rearing its ugly head again public touch screens are one of the best (??) ways of transmitting the disease.
Keyboards / buttons of ATM's etc are regularly cleaned but cleaning the screens properly is a much more difficult task.

I want to buy my wife a new PC and I don't want a All in One. I found a nice HP monitor that is touch screen. Is the there any special requirements for a new PC that will run that monitor? I haven't kept up with the new tech so give me a break and don't LOL.

Hi I m trying to get a new viewsonic touchscreen monitor to work on an old xp system and cannot get the touch part to work I tested the screen on my work laptop which runs xp and all worked ok I ve also tested it on my windows desktop PC All nice and touchy However on the older xp screen 'touching'! not win touch compaq presario system running windows xp I cannot get the touch to work XP is up to date SP I ve installed the drivers through that touch screen not 'touching'! win xp came with the monitor and the system recognised the new hardware and appears to have installed a HID compaitabile device in deveice manager I ve tried updating drivers but no joy The system used to run an older touch screen which recently gave up hence the new replacement it had MT touch software installed and I ve removed this in case there was a conflict later in my attempts to get it to work Any suggestions on how I can get this to work Thanks you nbsp

A:touch screen not 'touching'! win xp

you won't get multi-touch to work, but here's a solution for "regular" touch i found on amazon.com:

“The kind folks at Viewsonic have carefully concealed the fact that, as shipped, the touch-screen function of this model does not work under Windows XP.

Yes, if you read the user guide, it says "connect the USB cable to your Windows 7 system," but that's the ONLY indication that this much-ballyhooed touchscreen monitor is a touchscreen ONLY if you have W7.

In fact, if you e-mail them, they will say that no XP driver is available.

HOWEVER, the touchscreen "guts" of the monitor identify themselves as a "Taction" touchscreen, which is actually made by Quanta. The HP L2105tm touchscreen monitor is based on the same hardware, and the HP driver (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=382087&prodSeriesId=4031739&prodNameId=4031753&swEnvOID=228&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=vc-78373-1) will work with it.

It's a nice monitor, at a good price, but it loses 3 stars because (a) it doesn't come with an XP driver, and (b) Viewsonic incorrectly says that none is available.

This is the kind of baloney that drives me crazy. Shame, shame, shame.”

Does anyone here use a touch screen monitor for image editing or 3D stuff?

I know you can use a graphics tablet, but I've never got the hang of using those.

Just wondering, if anyone does use a touch screen monitor, what one do you use or could you recommend a good one.

Cheers

I don't want to use the touch screen. How do I switch it off? It gets activated by all sorts of things, such as my pet cat's tail  touching it, or an insect landing on it, or a curtain blowing against it. I don't type using the screen, i prefer the keyboard as I can't type fast on the screen. I'd like to disable the screen touch when i'm not using it (most of the time), or even permanently - it is not useful for what i want to do as the screen is not as sensitive or fast as the input devices i typically use.

A:How do I switch it off the touch screen?

Hi, I have an HP TouchSmart 320-1030, so this may work on your touch screen: Press the Windows logo key + X.Select Device Manager from the list.Click the little arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the list.Click the touch screen driver (in my case, NextWindow Voltron Touch Screen).Right-click, and select Disable from the list.Click Yes on the dialog box that asks if you are sure you want to disable the touch screen driver. When you want your touch screen to work again, follow the process above, EXCEPT when right-clicking the touch screen driver, select Enable.

How do I enable the touch screen on my Probook 430 G3.  It says it has the feature, but I can't find it.  ThanksLu

A:enable the touch screen

As far as I am aware, your notebook is not a touchscreen version.  The specifications verify that to be the case for most notebooks of the model that you own. What is the complete product number or product name of the G3 notebook?  - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the complete model number and\or product number. http://www8.hp.com/emea_africa/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=9043871#!tab=specs http://www8.hp.com/nl/nl/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=7834547#!tab=specs

I have a Dell SX2210T touch screen monitor that worked with my Dell computer and then with a replacement computer running Windows 8 & 8.1. Then along came Windows 10 and my monitor has no touch capability. Even the monitor driver/s have disappeared. Device Manager lists no touchscreen device. I tried to get a driver from the Dell site, but this proved to be a no, no as I just went round in circles and never got a driver.

Does any one know how I can resolve this annoying problem? I don't have any software to reinstall from . OR... do I just forget touch screen ability?

Regards,
Alistair

My screen on my HP Pavilion 15-p037cl Notebook PC was recently cracked. The screen is a touch scream and that no longer works now. There are no black spots that appear on the screen when the laptop is on. There are only cracked sceen lines that run throught the top of the screen. The frame of the laptop is not damaged and all the functions of the laptop are working excluding the touch screen. How much would it cost to send in the laptop and have the screen fixed?

The touchscreen on my HP Envy All-in-one started to go crazy with phantom touches being detected shooting up and down the right half of the screen nbsp I have to disable the HID-compliant touch screen in device manager in order fault Screen Touch to be able to do any work on it nbsp Initially I simply unplugged every device shut down and nbsp disconnected the power then left for a few minutes and restarted This did not help I downloaded all of the latest updates for windows and then all of the latest graphics and firmware drivers But no change In case it was caused by an update I did a system recovery and returned windows to default but this has not helped either I ran the UEFI System Diagnostics on start up and performed the Touch screen tests - it seems that i was able Touch Screen fault to complete the test on the left side of the screen but the right did Touch Screen fault not respond with frequent phantom touches nbsp I was unable to complete the test nbsp Additionally for some time now the screen flashes on and off especially when it seems to be running hot nbsp This happened regardless of whether 'Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel' nbsp and 'Windows Error Report Service' are disabled nbsp This is the second HP Envy All-in-one I've had in just over months and the first was replaced due to very similiar issues with a faulty screen nbsp It seems like this one's screen has gone now too so it was either a faulty batch or the HP Envy All-in-one has a fundamental fault

Will a touchscreen monitor to replace my current monitor be all that is required on my system to add that functionality to Windows 8?

A:Windows 8 touch screen

As long as it has windows 8 compatable drivers, yes.
The touchscreen is another input device like a mouse or touchpad.

Hi there I see more and more What is use laptop a screen TOUCH on laptops are being sold now with Touch enabled screens -- Now using a laptop in the Classical position I e with the screen at RIGHT ANGLES Vertically to the desk what possible use is touch Now if it has a detachable screen or can work in Tablet mode as a convertible that's fine but as a standard laptop -- what would you USE the touch facility for even if you were running Windows Touch is fine on accessory devices such as drawing devices What use is TOUCH on a laptop screen which you would have placed HORIZONTALLY on your desk or if you were using quot Electronic Drawing table quot type devices - but on a bog standard laptop screen But on a standard Laptop - Maybe on a Train Plane if you were using the computer as an e-book reader What use is TOUCH on a laptop screen - but if you just wanted to read would you be using a computer anyway -- e-readers are ridiculously cheap now All it does is just push up the price of the laptop for NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER Am curious - anybody here got a laptop with Touch - and what are they actually using touch for Cheers jimbo

A:What use is TOUCH on a laptop screen

I totally agree with you jimbo. I bought a new laptop a few weeks ago and specifically looked for one that did NOT have a touchscreen. I tried out the touchscreen models in the stores and decided touch is not a good interface for larger screens. Works great on my phone and tablet but requires too many exaggerated arm movements on the larger screen. Constantly moving between touching the screen and going back to the keyboard was a pain as well.
