It will not turn on at all, no noises or anything. Have tried another power cable and other plug sockets and den taking out all USBs ect ,but nothing is working.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Hp-pavillion-27-not-turning-on/td-p/5777973
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
hi all I tried taking battery off tried just charger etc but wont turn on could someone help on where to start to try find problem its got no hard drive in it as I bought it 2nd hand with out a hard drive in it .. thanks in advance
Do you see anything on the screen when you switch on? Any fan noise? It should start briefly then find the hard drive missing, as long as there is power(?)
Its not overheating. I have already taken my laptop in to a repair shop and they assumed it was a virus so they reloaded my Windows. Its only 2 years old and I use Kasperski antivirus. When I took it back to the repair facility, the laptop worked fine with no issues. Made me look like I was crazy. When we got it home ten minutes later, it powered on and lasted about 5 minutes and turned off. For about an hour all we could get it to do was come on for a few seconds and turn right off. Never even completely started. It has already been determined that it is not a heating issue, this computer runs ice cold. Before I take it back for a third time does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? It happens if its plugged into the wall too. Could there be something wrong with the battery that is causing this? My daughter is disabled and uses the laptop for her school assignments. Its a Dell Inspirion. Please, any help would be great.
Hmmmm. It could be a battery problem among other things. To test to see if it's your battery, I would take the battery out and just power the laptop with the charger. If the laptop stays on and runs normal using just the charger as power. I'd say it's safe to say your battery is the culprit.
Since the problem happens before the machine even boots into windows sometimes. I'd say it's probably a hardware related issue. Usually, it's almost always overheating in situations like this. You say it's not overheating, but, can you provide actual temps for us to confirm that.
Idle and load temps will give us the best idea of the situation. I would also check your RAM. Do you know how to run a memtest?

Check your windows settings and any software specific settings if there is a control panel other than the windows one for controlling the card. With my laptop the wifi always disconnects after a certain amount of time idle to save battery. Its not really uncommon.
I have ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H81-PLUS mobo in my desktop PC. I looked the menus of the BIOS but didn't find some option for turning the system on by pressing a key on keyboard. Has my mobo such an option? If yes, which menu please?
Press the space bar/mouse button for standby and the power button for hibernation.
I recently bought a new graphics card due to my old one giving out. The new graphics card I got was the GTX 960. I think I plugged everything up right. I uploaded some pictures I thought were viable into helping me find the solution to my problem. I'm really feeling like ****. I was so excited to receive my new 200$ graphics card and to find out it wont even turn on has really got me bummed out. Can someone please help me?
(8pin connector is plugged in)
(6-pin connector is plugged in)
I dont have the last image for some reason it wouldn't upload but anyway it's connected to the PCI-E slot.
Any luck with this?
I got my laptop about two years ago. It stopped charging around Christmas, then, an hour later, it started turning off when ever I plugged it in. I took it in to be fixed. First they replaced the power jack, it still didn't work, so they replaced the adapter. then, finally, they replaced the mother board. I only just got it back yesterday. I took it home, and it was fine. For the first hour or so, that is. It suddenly shut off. No warning or anything. I turned it back on, it booted up just fine, like nothing ever happened. 45 minutes later it did it again. It has been doing this ever since.
My comp is made for gaming, and has a beastly cooling system. I've been checking to make sure the fan is working. It happens randomly. I can be playing a game, surfing the web, or just letting it sit idle. It never happens right when I boot up. It always runs about 45 minutes to an hour before shutting off. It doesn't have any problems booting up.
Any tips would be nice.
You must have paid a lot to have the motherboard replaced. I would be back to see them about it. If it really is a gaming laptop it will have cost a great deal of money and have high resistance to heat together with a plug in graphics card module. Generally speaking even laptops that look impressive can't stand up to intensive gaming but you mention that the problem can occur when the laptop is sitting idle. You can't afford to let them keep replacing bits in the hope of a solution but they need to do a better job of pinning down the problem.
I have recently got a second monitor from a friend, and connected it via DVI to my Graphics card (AMD Radeon R290) next to my old monitor (both monitors are plugged in the same graphics card)
Everything worked fine, but now when I turn on the PC, the new monitor wont light up, the powerbutton does nothing, all other buttons do nothing, BUT the monitor is on, I can do stuff on it (drag the mouse on there, open a window and drag it to the working screen etc.)
When I restart the PC over and over, eventually the monitor does turn on, but it seem completly random.
I checked the powercord, exchanged the DVI cord with a HDMI cord, but nothing helps.
I think the monitor just doesnt get the signal to turn on the light but virtual it is there.
Should I try to reinstall the graphics card driver? Or is the problem in the monitor?
I would try reinstalling the graphic driver. See if that helps. If not someone here should have a few ideals. That might help.
My laptops hp dv had stopped getting on AC power charger was fine so I had it examined by the local repairman and he said that quot charging I C quot is damaged and need to be replaced I had him change the I C When it got off itself Laptops by turning repaired and I went to take it back it stopped running on battery at his shop upon which he said that Laptops turning off by itself the damaged I C on the last boot had damaged the battery too and now battery is dead so I have ordered a new battery which will arrive in some days Now when I had taken it back home it worked fine when I watched a movie for hrs but then when I closed the movie and started reading a pdf Laptops turning off by itself it turned off in mins Then I carried a self-examination and found that it works fine when it is on high power consumption or probably at high CPU usage like watching movies Laptops turning off by itself or songs but it turns off as if power is cut whenever placed idle or used lowly like reading e-books or using word or things that require less CPU usage The battery is currently taken off I had the repairman repair the battery so I didn t have it now to check if it works fine with battery Its not heating up physically the HWmonitor report is posted below Please any help would be appreciated Had the repairman cheated and done something wrong Before repair everything was like for more that two years please help Note I found the area around charger port relatively much hotter than the whole laptop nbsp
HWMonitor would give a readout on the battery but you don't have it. I think that you'll just have to wait for the replacement battery and see how things go after that.
I have a Dell latitude ES5500 which is a recon model
It works fine and on start up I hear the fan going. (so I don't think this is the problem)
All of the airways are clear.
When the laptop first arrived I could get 4-5 mins of video or game time before it shut off, it is now down to virtually straight away.
The laptop does not feel hot to touch either and when turned back on will perform any other function ie e mails word processing database and excel etc without a problem.
I can go on facebook and read post search the internet with no problems but as soon as I try to run a video or play a game it drops straight out.
I have to hold the button down to shut the laptop off and then it will restart with no bother.
This is fairly frustrating and I was wondering if anyone had any advice/ solutions to this?
It's worth installing HWMonitor or SpeedFan to check temperatures when you are playing video. My laptop fan doesn't kick in until the GPU temperature gets to 60c and it then drops rapidly to about 50c whereas your fan is working from start up.
I have got the same issue.
Here is a screenshot of my HWMonitor results:

I don't see any obvious problem there. If the laptop shuts down when you're using it that's a problem but if you are inactive for a while and it shuts itself down in the meantime it may be because of the Power settings that have been selected under Control Panel.
I am working on a Toshiba L750 laptop with Windows 7, it was booting to the desktop for a few seconds and then turning off, if I boot into safe mode it works fine. Thinking it was software related I am in the process of reloading the software using the recovery partition software but it seems to be now doing the same now it loading the various programs on top of windows.
Any suggestions gladly received.
I would suspect the graphic card driver, or that the screen resolution is set too high.
Safe mode boots the pc with the minimum, but working MS drivers.
You could try safe mode, then device manager, and uninstall the graphic card driver. Then do a normal boot .
Windows should fall back to a reliable MS driver running in SVGA mode, or just above that. It should be stable.
I would also run 'sfc /scannow', to try to correct any simple Windows O/S problems.
Best source for the drivers would be Toshiba's site.
( Of course it could also be overheating but not if it's fine in safe mode.)
Hello So I know there are lots of posts about laptop turning off yes I read them and could not find a N56VZ turning off Asus keeps solution I did some tests and etc So my story is After like half a year of using my new laptop It Asus N56VZ keeps turning off started to shutting down without any warnings at some games like of any games I tried But the strangest fact is that it does not depend on how advanced game is Some games manage to make my laptop hot as hell and it does not turn off at all And some small games these don t need many resources turn my laptop off Like after min of gaming N VZ is kinda high in resources Gb ram GT M video card i processor Small games should not do a lot of impact on it Also on browsing or doing something else does not turn off my laptop only games I tried running without battery only with battery - result is the same I did some stress tests laptop did not turn off and results of prime you can see in uploaded photos I ran them like hour each http speedy sh yPJSZ Smal-FFT bmp and http www speedyshare com B C Blend bmp I also did ZHPDiag test http www speedyshare com WHB P ZHPDiag txt I tried to disable sound driver Laptop still shut off but after min With drivers on it shuts off in min Tried to uninstall and download drivers again from asus support page tried older ones and newer ones that did not help I also tried installing different windows os and that did not help me What could I do Im annoyed I would send my laptop to technical support but I can t do that now Can anyone check the files I uploaded and help me Please nbsp
Ok. I tried disabling graphics drivers. It seems that it worked fine. So I uninstalled them and after restart laptop installed by itself new drivers, so far so good. But not sure about updates, I guess I will skip graphics driver updates for some time...
Laptops' temperature got down too..
Hey, I was trying to setup an adhoc connection, but I'm faced with a dilemma.
I have internet via an ethernet cable, so I want to spread this wifi using my laptop's wifi connection.
However, whenever I connect the ethernet cable to my laptop and it's connected to the internet, the wifi light on my keyboard automatically turns red and the wifi router no longer works, hence I cannot create the adhoc connection.
After I remove the ethernet cable, the wifi light turns back on, and I'm able to create an adhoc network, but I won't have any internet to spread since, well, the ethernet cable is not plugged in...
I have an HP running on Windows 7.
Both ethernet and wifi adapters are fine.
How do I prevent my ethernet connection from shutting down my wifi router??
Hmm; IMO, Windows is attempting to keep you out of hot water.
Your PC WiFi is not intended to act like an open hotspot. I you what 'guest' connects via wifi, you should manage that in the router setup (several have the option for guest vs lan users).
You were to create this kind of network:
router = = PC - - wif - - guests
The routing table needs special entries and in effect, you would be creating a dual-home environment (the guests could just as easily be a secondary ISP).
Hi, my laptop is having this same issue. But now it goes off immediately after I turn it on. Here are the HWmonitor readings on high performance. its a Hp probook 4330s, switchable graphics, intel and amd; but the amd hasn't functioned for about 1.5 years now since the hard drive that came with it crashed. installing the drivers just makes windows not boot.
The motherboard has probably failed...
Hello all fellows here.

Can someone please help me in finding a solution? Thank you.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, maybe time for a new phone... Certainly the Verizon? 2-year contract is up I hope
My PC keeps turning off every 10-20 minutes without any warning or anything and I can't turn it on for 5 minutes after it turns off and it doesn't save anything, I don't get the BSoD or the overheating message so it's not crashing or overheating, I don't know what to do please help me. PC Specs:

Have you checked your power settings? Also either download Speed Fan or Hwmonitor. In order to check your temps. Sometimes you will not see a warning for your laptop over heating. It will just shut it's self down.
Both softwares can be download here at Techspot. Under downloads.
sometimes my laptop keyboard and the touchpad just turn off. I can't use any key an I dont even see the cursor on the display. Ii need to restart my laptop and then everything works fine. I've already downloaded a driver from the manufacturer's site. Is this maybe a hardware problem?
I have an HP Pavilion 17 e130ez notebook.
You may try to hard reset your laptop by removing the battery off and also disconnecting the AC power adapter/charger. Then press and hold the power button for about 30 - 60 seconds, after you release it, reconnect the power and turn your laptop ON and find out if you're still having those issues.
I have got a new desktop PC, which works fine with Ethernet but I am not able to connect through wireless. When I tried to connect to the broadband, it says error connecting to the Broadband connection
Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported error. However, same comnnection works very well with my vista home premium Dell Laptop.
Thanks in advance
How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility
I installed a new graphics card to my PC and it's using a DVI-I to VGA adapter and it's connected with a VGA (Yes, it IS a DVI-I) When I connect it using that the computer turns on, the monitor turns on, and there is nothing displayed on the monitor. The GPU (gigabyte gtx 770 4gb) is in correctly, I've checked many times. I tried using the mobo graphics and when I do, the monitor stays off and I hear one long beep and 2 short beeps. Whenever my PC turns on the light that shows it's 'loading' goes off after a few seconds and a quick tap of the power switch will shut it off completely. I'm so confused as to what to do and afraid I screwed everything up. I think it's a PSU problem but can't be sure. It's more than enough watts as well.
Have you check your memory. To make sure it is still seated. Sometimes it can get jarred loose. When installing other computer parts .
I have an ASUS A54C running Win 7 64bit. Only in the past two months has the WiFi been permanently turned off and each time I have to trouble shoot and apply the fix. I am unsure how those here have solved this issue. Could someone be a touch more clear? Many thanks.
I have an ASUS A54C running Win 7 64bit. Only in the past two months has the WiFi been permanently turned off and each time I have to trouble shoot and apply the fix...Click to expand...
Not really sure, but I take it you mean you're experiencing random disconnections? First thing I'd do is get in touch with my service provider and have them send a tech guy over. It just might be that the problem lies with outside facilities.
Or you may want to change the power settings on your wireless adapter to "Maximum Performance." You can do that by going to Control Panel, then System and Security. Select "Power Options". Click on "Change plan settings" beside your selected plan, then go to "Change advanced power settings".
Look for -- and expand -- "Wireless Adapter Settings". You should be able to scroll down and choose "Maximum Performance" from there. Click "Apply".
You can, of course, always undo the change if it doesn't work.
I have an asus laptop and yestarday I restored it back a few hours becase I deleted a program but now my wireless capability keeps turning off... I tried uninstalling Wireless Console 3 and that did not work..
Make sure there is only one WiFi listed in the Device Manager.
Try uninstalling the WiFi driver but don't delete it
Reboot the PC
On the WiFi Router do a power recycle (power off then power on wait 3 mins)
I powered down the machine yesterday (Shut Down) and now this morning the computer will not boot.
When I try to boot the machine the BIOS screen does not appear, the HD light flickers on but then stays off. All other lights on the machine are on as normal. The fan kicks in within 30 seconds and sounds like it's running at maximum revs.
I did a hard reset and reseated the HD and the RAM and replaced the RTC battery without fixing the issue.
I will disassemble the unit and make sure the fan is not clogged, in the meantime does anyone have any thoughts ?
The motherboard has probably failed do to consistent overheating over time...
I was scanning a Dell Latitude D620 for viruses, and left it at work overnight, when i came back in the morning, the monitor on the laptop was black, i hard shut down the computer and pulled the battery out, ive tried function keys, but i cannot get the monitor to turn back on. Is there some trick or function key or something to getting this monitor to turn back on?
Also plugged another monitor into it and that monitor didnt turn on either.
Remove the battery and AC adapter again. Hold the power button down for 1 minute and try powering up the laptop
I recently repaired my monitor by replacing some capacitors on it. After being successful with that a friend of mine started having a problem with his monitor, so I said I'd give it a look. Its not the same problem, hes seeing green discoloration, looks like green powder all over the screen. The monitor is an LCD, and it doesn't seem to be a cable issue as we've tried a different VGA cable, however when I tried using the HDMI port, i saw the problem but then after a minute or two it went away.
So maybe someone can help me diagnose the problem, or if its the green gun, can i fix or replace this? I visually inspected the capacitors on this monitor and they seem fine, but I'm told that its not always visible when they're screwed up... can I test them?
Recently i've opened my NZXT tempest case and while i was opening it i forgot there was a side fan (Graphic card i think) and i acidently yanked the connection off after plugging it in the fan wont turn on. Also there are 2 of those "plastic connectors". did i somehow break the fan while acidently pulling it off? Or did i loosen somthing. The graphic card is a AMD HD 6870.
Those "plastic connectors" are called 'molex connectors'. And you haven't made it totally clear whether you yanked off your add-on GPU's connector (which should be connected to the mobo) or your side-fan's connector. I personally have never seen a GPU having it's fan on the side of the case
A photo would be helpful. I don't want to speculate anything, in case it ends up damaging your machine further.
I have a laptop - MSI GE620DX, recently I've tried turning it on - and it gave me this BSOD:
i41.tinypic.com/n2l6ab.jpg - error number 0x000000f4
After that, I've tried using the system recovery (F3). The system has recovered after 3 attempts, but now it asks me either to enter system repair mode or start windows normally.
If I start windows normally, it gives me the BSOD once more after the windows load screen.
If I choose the system repair, it tells me that my boot device is inaccessible, error number 0xc000000f, and to fix the issue to insert my windows CD (though I had my windows built in the laptop, I did not receive a windows CD).
You likely have a budding memory or hard drive problem. A re-install of the software might be the easy way out, but if it is an older hard drive, you might be best off with a new one.
Usually BSOD's are caused by software conflicts, software damage, failed components, or (usually) incorrectly installed software. But the BSOD can be very different for each machine so it is diffcult to give you a quick fix.
My guess is you may have a bad hard drive.
i have a compaq presario sr5202hm when i start my computer the screen will not come on it just blinks no input signal on the monitor
Well, first things first. Make sure all cables are plugged in correctly, all the way. Never hurts to check.
Chances are you know how to plug in your monitor so we wont spend anymore time on that. Could you give some more details about your system? What hardware are your running? Does the system have integrated video or a dedicated graphics card?
I have a HP Pavillion dv5000 and would like to replace the cmos battery due to charging issues. I can't find the darn thing. I removed the keyboard and the wifi card and NO battery. I removed the ram sticks also to see and still no battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Seems easy but you try lookin in this machine lol

Anyone my turning how itself off unexpectedly First I noticed when I closed the lid it started to turn off rather than just sleep When I opened it up I would get a message on a black screen giving me the option to restart or Anyone know how to stop my laptop turning itself off randomly? delete something to restart sorry i didn t really understand this message only the second option worked and just seemed to have the same effect as restarting but quicker Now it also turns off randomly when I am using it I don t think it is over heating there is no sign of this It turns itself back on straightaway without me having to do anything The screen just suddenly goes black and has a small white flashing line in the top right corner then reboots itself all programs closed and unsaved data lost but working fine again as though I just turned it on I d be grateful for any advice thanks a lot nbsp
Sounds like some sort of power problem.
If it's only a couple of months old you should call up and get it checked under the warranty.
owned since August specs visible on profile i guess problems since April initially it wouldn t turn on soon after shutting down like i had to wait some - mins before it could turn on quot turn on quot in this post means when the screen lights up and the dell sign loads the problem further deteriorated when it didnt turn on for a whole week like that and one day just out of the blue i pressed the power button and the screen came to life a week after that it died again and then i took it a computer repair shop i lost the warranty card and i dont reckon dell has reliable repair etc in my country they told me the motherboard was fried but there was a chance they could fix it it was fixed and returned to me detailed Inspiron not on, symptoms 1440, turning i have never spilled anything on it but it could have overheated due to overuse usually turned on for - hrs in one go without external cooling i took extra care after that and got a cooling pad as well but - weeks later it died again and i took it to another shop it was fixed and returned to me now i have no idea what they did to it in the shop bcz u have to leave ur machine with them n they work on it whenever THEY find it feasible now after a few months it s dead yet again i tried my own hand at it several times but i could never open it out of fear till the motherboard iv tried -resetting the ram changing slots etc -taking out all the detachable elements and blowing into it to clean the dust but i can t reach the motherboard somehow there is some screw that i can t find and now it s lying there dead for all the world to see and im figuratively Inspiron 1440, not turning on, detailed symptoms crying girly tears at its deathbed sigh also if i turn it on without ram it gives me beeps pause beeps pause repetitively if i insert the ram into the ram slot it waits some - seconds before exhibiting the aforementioned behavior nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/inspiron-1440-not-turning-on-detailed-symptoms.171484/
I have a Hp Pavilion with a 4.2 score, AMD Turion II P560 Dual-Core 2.50GHz, 4gb ram 300 gb storage, and a AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. I can play games like minecraft well on High performance and HD, 3D graphics but I want to play more games like Battlefield and Black Ops, MW2 MW3 -Beta. I use Game booster but it only seems to end my processes, how can i run my laptop to be faster for gaming without lag?
go into battery settings and change to high performance, also most the time with laptops specs dont handle like there advertised due to battery and "saving space" issues. On top of that just try doing the normal, clear off empty hdd space, and use a good defrag program like auslogics and optimize to read the data faster. Trust me gaming is hard enough with just BF2 on my dinosaur of a laptop stuck to windowed resolutions of 800x600
it possible to place a ATI Radeon HD 5750 in a HP pavillion slimline?
I want to know because i just bought just cause 2 for pc and i dont have the right Graphics card so im planning to buy the graphics card.
btw im 13 so i cant afford everything.
thanks for your help
UPDATE: the version of the PC is S3330f
From the information I could gather 8800GT is 9" long and roughly 4.7" high. Whereas, this XFX HD 5750 is 7.9" by 4.4". So if these measurements are true to your existing system, you should be ok with this card.
This is the strangest problem some Pavillion work don't TX2500, keys HP that I have ever run into The computer is less than years old the motherboard has been replaced once already Some of the keys on the keyboard do not work The keys that do work output in all caps when the caps lock is off and output in lower case when caps lock is on This HP Pavillion TX2500, some keys don't work is what I have tried already Uninstall the keyboard and drivers in device manager Scanned for viruses and malware-Negative Tried the battery removal power cord out press power to discharge the capacitors and still no good Tried a USB keyboard and a different set of keys don t work Tried the keyboard on my HTC Thunderbolt while connected using Gmote and even less keys work Tried a system restore and a clean install of Ubuntu Same nonsense Removed the keyboard from the laptop and re-seated the connector Now my head hurts Does anyone have any ideas that I have not tried I m thinking it s the motherboard keyboard controller which means I am not replacing the motherboard in this thing again UUGGhh Thank you very much in advance nbsp
Bought a replacement keyboard and it did not work, which I expected. The keyboard was $56 from HP. I am returning it and they are charging me $25 restocking fee! Almost 50%...
HP sucks! I think it's time for a Macbook!!
Okay so I don't know too much about laptops, and I am wondering if anyone can help me out? My Inpiron 1501 laptop keeps shutting off on it's own, and I can not figure out why for the life of me. This computer is also very, very slow. What can I do to fix this???
What is the condition of the battery? How old is the laptop?
hi all this is a update to my other post. i now realised what was causing the screeching sound. having levels on my monitor up causes noise from the computer to be heared. before i upgraded having the monitors on 0% would be silent and turning up would not give of noises. now having them at 0% music plays with no noises and can be controled in windows but wont reach loud levels because of the speakers being at -30db. im guessing there is a setting somewhere that can be altered to lower the system volume so i can just turn up the monitors themselvs?
i am using realtek hd audio on a gigabyte x58 usb3 and vista 32
Today I got to my computer and it was completely dead. So I switched out the power supply with another computer. The power supply didn't work in that one either so I just figured it was dead. I put it back in and now the computer works fine. Any idea on what would cause it to not work for a 12 hour span? Sometimes the computer will randomly turn off, but only in the middle of the night if I have accidentally left it on and only every once in awhile. What would cause this?
Maybe the PSU is dying. Nothing else would usually cause this. You could try replacing your motherboard battery, though I don't think that's the issue.
I have recently put a new motherboard (asus M4A89GTD PRO) on my pc and, since then, everytime I shut down the pc, the HD makes a very strange sound, I will explain that with more details:
when I shut down the pc from windows, I get the "Shutting down" screen, everything is normal there, but some seconds later the HD Led turns on and the HD makes a very strange sound, that happens during a second or two, and after that, the sound stops and the pc turns off
EDIT: I forgot to say it: that noise sounds like the HD is revving very very fast... sounds like a disk turning very fast
It makes me feel that there is something wrong with my motherboard/OS/HD... What do you think? What can be the cause of that? is it a serious problem?
I dont seem to understand the meaning of revving, would it be like when its too busy, that kind of a sound or something else.
Because if that's the case then it could be ok, plus is that a SATA or IDE disk/s...
I also think it could be Data caching, maybe look at you disk properties in your management console and see it you have a setting like this snapshot below...
A few hours ago why running a few programs and things nothing that taxing like a game or anything my computer randomly shut down Now when (BIOS/startup loop malfunction?) dv3150nr HP Pavillion boot I tried to reboot it or when it restarted itself im not too sure It would flash a blank DOS window with a blinking quot quot for - seconds then go to the HP BIOS screen and remain there for a few seconds HP Pavillion dv3150nr boot loop (BIOS/startup malfunction?) At HP Pavillion dv3150nr boot loop (BIOS/startup malfunction?) the point in which it would normally go to the next screen and start loading windows it instead started the booting process all over and went back to the BIOS screen and would do this continually until i pressed the power button and shut it off I have no idea what is the problem and how to fix it I ran the memory and other daignostics in the bios and they did not come up with any errors My antivirus expired not too long ago but i dont think a virus could do this I did at one time get a message something like this quot Primary internal Battery storage capacity of battery very low replace battery But that make have been a fluke caused by me trying to perform a quot hard reset quot by removing the battery and draining the remaining power in the notebook I am no longer under warranty By days Doesn t this always happen and I m at a loss for what to do I may still be able to boot from a disk but before I try anything like that I need to understand what is causing the problem and how best to fix it Any help would be appreciated Notebook stats pretty much the only thing I m able to access in the bios besides diagnostic tests Notebook model HP Pavillion dv Notebook PC Windows Vista SYSTEM BOARD ID PROCESSOR TYPE INTEL CORE DUO CPU P GHz Total Memory MB BIOS Version F nbsp
The primary internal battery might be the motherboard CMOS battery. Sounds like the hard drive may have gone bad... Once you get the laptop to boot, you can address the weak CMOS battery. Can you get into the boot devices in the bios at all?
Hi I need to replace a screen on the above laptop - however I am unsure which screen I need - there seems to be one with a dual back light - and a 17.3" screen size as wellas the 17" - any ideas how I could find out which part I need ?
Look on the back of the screen itself there should be some numbers on the back of the screen type model number from the back of the screen into google or eBay that will give you the correct screen.
my lap top freezes when i turn it on. the only thing i get is a black screen with hp invent in the middle. i put a disc in with windows xp home edition on it to try to swipe the computer but when i turn it on i cant even get to boot from disc. any ideas?
That unit is old enough to have begun some problems with the hard drive... or heat from dust, dirt, fiber...
Clean out thoroughly with canned air and denatured alcohol.
Can you put the drive in an external USB enclosure to see if you can access the data on another computer? If so, look for the SMART test results.
HP has used in that model Hitachi, Samsung, Western Digital, and Seagate... so it would be helpful to know more about the hard drive installed.
Luckily hard drives are very low cost nowadays... so I would look for another at Frys, NewEgg, Directron, CDW, Zipzoomfly, or other supplier and see if you can install windows to it... If you need help, let us know.
But there have been a lot of system board failure reports... due to excess heat.
What is the age of that laptop and components.?
Hi all I was working with my computer when I installed Netlimiter which asked me to reboot Everything was working okay and I did a normal restart i e Start - gt Restart To my surprise the screen didn t turn on although after a couple minutes I could hear the Windows startup sound More No sound can be heard coming from the motherboard I ve changed not after turning a regular restart on Monitor the monitor to another one same result it s not turning on Normally my video card s fan would start at full speed when I turned on the computer and then slow down when it got to the logon screen Now I can hear the logon screen sound and the gfx card s fan still at maximum speed I have no other video card to try on the computer nor can I try this one on another computer I m pretty Monitor not turning on after a regular restart screwed I ve dis re-connected everything at least twice RAM card readers USB I ve also tried to turn the computer on with nothing but the keyboard and the monitor connected to it Same result Visually there s nothing wrong with the video card no fat capacitors nothing seems to have quot burnt quot I tried to start the computer with the video card disconnected and it got to the logon screen i could hear the sound Isn t it working The fan is on Specs AMD Phenom II AM GB RAM GeForce GTS drivers were the previous version to the one that screwed gfx cards up SATA GB HD regular one What can be wrong If it was a video card issue would the computer be getting to the logon screen or just beep before even try to boot from HD CD Thanks in advance nbsp
This is confusing, because generally you would hear the BIOS have a beep code error saying there is no Video output connected, I assume you do not have On-board video? If the video card is defective/Disconnected from the computer you should have a Beep code, and not get to the Windows Logon screen..
If it is getting that far but you are not getting video then it either seems it is a video card problem, or a PCI port problem..
the other day i came home turned my pc on with the big fat button at the front start button and i noticed that the graphics card fan didn t turn on with the processor fan card not Graphics turning on fan the next day i found another graphics card that fits into my PC so i shoved it into the pci-e slot then i hit the big fat turn on button at the front of the case waited for a couple of secs and the graphics card fan didn t turn on with the processor fan the Graphics card fan not turning on fan always used to turn on with the processors fan without the fan on i used a program and it showed me the temperature of the graphics card and it was obviously overheating the original fan that was in my pc was a old geforce gt the card i used to replace that when i realized it didnt work was the gt Please help me fix this problem cause its screwing the whole family up PLEASE REPLY ASAP CAUSE U WILL MAKE A MAN HAPPY ME nbsp
You say it is obviously overheating. What symptoms are you getting? What temperature is the card? Are you running any graphics software that would control the fan on the card? Does the fan connector plug into the graphics card or the motherboard header?
Fill out your complete system specifications please so that it is easier to assist you.
I purchased a computer back in from CyberPower PC before I knew how to built them myself It s been running practically flawless since purchase up until recently The problem occurring could definitely be due to age but thought I should throw it up on here for some assistance Over the past couple days my computer has been randomly turning itself off during game play like the system has been unplugged About three times in Aion and once so far in Bad Company I thought it was due to overheating or dust or whatnot - so I ve cleaned up all the dust internally and set it up on a table leaflet so that it isn t sitting on carpet anymore After I gave it a thorough cleaning it worked perfect for about a day and a half and just recently went out on me again After it goes out it won t allow me to attempt to boot it back up for at least minutes Could this be due to overheating still I have never had an overheating issue or due to my psu going bad or getting old Also was concerned about my cpu chip and if it was overheating I also made sure driver s were updated all around had been having some graphical errors and everything seems to work perfect At one point I had SLI d cards in my computer but one of them seems to have burnt out My computer will no longer recognize it and if I make it the top card in my mobo it will blue screen with graphical errors so I removed it Been working off at video during game Computer play turning random fine since it s been removed Compy stats listed below Running Windows Vista -bit Coolermaster Cosmos Sport Case EVGA NForce I mobo Intel Quad Core Q Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX VR GB PC DDR x Computer turning off at random during video game play EVGA GeForce GT GB x PCI-E used to be two now only have one GB Sata-II RPM mb black Sony x DVD RW Apevia Warlock Series w PSU Any suggestions would be extremely helpful It s driving me insane nbsp
Eh...why don't you check your temperatures?
When my friend turns on their xp laptop the screen goes white, then black and won't do anything. The cursor is on the screen and looks like it is loading but nothing ever happens.
May be caused by a bad hard drive...
I am using HP Pavillion dv3005tx. I am using this laptop since 2 years without much trouble. However recently there were few important updates that i downloaded and installed. After few days i shut down my computer to complete the installation.
But now when i start my computer, i can only see light flashing at the front but I dont think my hard disk is working. So in short my computer does not start at all. Only lights flash at the front near keyboard but nothing is displayed on the screen nor is hard disk running.
I tried to remove battery and start my computer with power cable but it still does not help. Please advice any quick solution. I need laptop for urgent use.
Just re-read your post...
If you cannot enter safe mode, and you are not offered option to enter bios configuration, it would indicate a hardware failure.
Could be several kinds of hardware issue that can do this.
(Including memory failure, hard drive failure, etc)
Do you get a beep-code at power-up? If so, this may help us.
If you can see your option to enter bios, but cannot enter safe-mode, it could indicate a corrupted windows, or perhaps a failed hard-drive.
Try entering bios configuration and see if your bios is finding your hard-drive.
If so, then I would suggest attempting a restore, after running hard-drive diagnostics.
If not, then my first guess is a failed hard drive.
Let us know the answers to these questions.
i have an hp pavillion dv 6 entertainment notebook ? can i enhance it with new 3 d card?? it has a built it mobile chip set !
General speaking, you cannot upgrade the video card or GPU in a laptop.
my laptop stopped picking up wireless network, it wont' recognized the wireless assistant, I tried every possible solution online (updating bios, reinstalling the drivers, changed the network card) and still nothing. any suggestions? will buying a usb wireless adapter give me the option to connect to wireless networks?
Welcome to the club and I don't say that sarcastically; I feel your pain. This is quite a well known problem with HP's DV 6000 series; a series that had MAJOR failures with their motherboards due to poor cooling. Their 9000 series also had epic fails. One tech guy that I know told me that in their shop the wireless card failing was the beginning sign of motherboard issues.
Its not your wireless card per se though. I speak from personal experience as my daughter's wireless connection died as well. I even replaced the card and it still didn't work. I also did everything you mentioned plus I followed HP's instructions. I even contacted them and the cost to fix was rediculous. They even said it most likely is a motherboard issue after I did everything they instructed to resolve the issue.
So to answer your last question: Yes, a USB wireless adapter will work. It did for my daughter and we hope this system will last us till she graduates this coming May.
My computer (AMD 64 bit 3500+) keeps turning itself off randomly. I've narrowed the issue down somewhat but need help to get any further...
The only time it doesn't turn itself off is when it's sitting in the BIOS (Award).
BIOS shows CPU temp is about 54 deg celcius, and all fans are working.
I've blown out all dust and tried swapping ram sticks to no avail.
12 volt supply is sitting on about 11.8 V, not sure if this is an issue?
Also when it turns itself off, the keyboard lights stay on (Numlock, etc), but all fans and drives turn off.
Voltage seems to be within range i.e. +/- 5% on 12V rail.
How old is this PSU by the way? Its make/model etc.
Please give complete specs of this system, and your post give the impression that underload (i.e. when its booted with an OS/being used etc.) it is working perfectly fine?
Also, have you checked for updated BIOS for your motherboard ? May be it is some issue with this particular release of BIOS. Regards
I have Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop. When I try to switch it on, it doesn't go on. The green led indicator in its charger is flashing when it's plugged in, but when I unplug it from laptop the green led doesn't flash. What is the problem? Is it huge problem to fix? Can anyone help, please?
bought a p5g41 c-mlx asus mobo yesterday. was wondering if there was a way to turn off power step. there is no option in the bios or drivers. anyone know anything about this? it's really annoying that my cpu keeps going down to 1.2 mhz even while i'm doing ****.
if it is throttling down while under load, there is something else wrong. the throttle up/down is faster than you would be able to perceive. how is it you know its going down to 1.2Ghz while under load?

It almost sounds as though Windows no longer detects a sound card....
Check your BIOS. Is there any setting Enable / Disable Onboard Audio?
Report on any BIOS settings, then Generate a Problem Device report
Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
Generate and attach a DirectX report
click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
I own a Hp Pavillion dv6700 laptop and recently it wouldn't turn on for more than a few seconds. I tried troubleshooting by removing the battery and turning it on just with the powersupply, no difference. Vice versa.
I purchased another charger to see if that would help. Despite trying different combinations with chargers, batter in/out, the computer still only turns on for a few seconds(nothing comes up on the screen) and then turns itself off.
Reading some other forums similiar to this problem has yielded no help.
Another thing - the port that I plug the power supply into it seems like the cord can move around a bit.
Hi there, i have some issues with my monitor (awhhh).
It's working fine like 10-20-30 minutes and then it's turning off (for no reason) while the cumputer is running and the flash/button goes pink. I don't know what's this colour stands for. Blue is when the monitor is active, yellow is when the monitor is turn to sleep and when i shut down my computer, but PINK? What's that, anyone?
The monitor is turning OFF, not in a sleep mode or something.
I must remove the cable and push back in every 20 minutes. That's wrong.
Maybe it's the cabel, maybe something with drivers and stuff...i don't know.
please anyone....it's my moms monitor and she's gonna kill me, i blew it up.
It would be nice to know the brand and model of the monitor
I am at my wits end with this computer We received it yesterday at pm and tried Pavillion on "new" disconnected Winsock error/media HP refurbished for hours to get it connected to the internet with no luck Winsock error/media disconnected on "new" refurbished HP Pavillion We have another laptop ipod touch PS and Wii all connected to the same router with no problems I have tried just about everything you can possibly imagine I even tried downloading a program that says it fixes winsock errors and it couldn t find anything wrong The computer has nothing on Winsock error/media disconnected on "new" refurbished HP Pavillion it so any scans I have run turn up no problems The computer shows that the wireless card is working correctly and the computer can find all available networks just cannot connect When I try to go to a website and then troubleshoot I get this info Error attempting to validate the Winsock base providers Not all base service provider entries could be found in the winsock catalog A reset is needed already tried a reset When you try ipconfig it shows quot media disconnected quot I don t know what to do anymore nbsp
We figured it out finally. We had to reset the router to factory settings and then connect the hp laptop first and now everything is online.
Hi, I have a brand new corsair psu 850 that i got for my birthday on July 17, 2010. Computer worked like a dream on Sat and sun. Monday it does not turn on. Fan briefly stutters then turns off nothing else appears to be running. HOweve the light on the motherboard indicates that it is receiving power and thinks it is turned on.
Please help. Any ideas?
It could be the power supply is defective. Corsair makes good power supplies and I use them myself but sometimes this can happen just like with any other component. Do you have access to another PSU you can substitute to test with?
I have a 22" LG Flatron W2234GS LCD monitor which I bought under six months ago.
I haven't had any sort of issues with it since I bought it. But lately it keeps going blank as if it was turned off. Then after a while it turns back on again at random.
I've attacthed it to another PC and still the same problem.
Right now I am using it but the screen looks like its about to cut off because it's the screen goes darker (dim) then bright again.
Contact LG support on that monitor. Right there you did what most techs would do test it on another system and it does the same thing. Most likely you'll have to ship it to LG for service or they'll just send you a new one after you ship the one you have. This only happens if they deem it as DOA product.
A few nights ago my sister was playing on my computer and I don't keep the side cover on, anyway she dropped my headphones into the gap and it froze the computer so i turned it off and rebooted thats when it happened, it wont do any beeps when I turn it on and I dont want to pull anything apart since I dont know what is what all the fans are working the lights are working tried 2 monitors on it still nothing please give me some advice and dumb it down a bit so I can understand it *they are pretty big headphones* thank you to anyone that helps.
Your information on your hard drive is probably good.
Your headphones could be ruined. What is more, your motherboard may be unrepairable.
So many components could have been damaged... cpu fan, one or more memory modules..
to save your data, I would remove the hard drive, and attempt to install another.
It is possible that every component will need to be tested, or that a simple change will bring it back to life. The problem is you don't know which. It is possible that a knowledgeable friend would be as good as a professional technologist, but I would get help from someone if your system is important to you.
I recently bought a new graphics card to update but monitor New graphics is is AGP fan black turning card: an old New AGP graphics card: fan is turning but monitor is black desktop Dell Optiplex GX Mini Tower with the hope of a mediocre home theater PC After much research I bought a HIS ATI HD MB DDR graphics card However I m having trouble getting it to display video The power supply is just the New AGP graphics card: fan is turning but monitor is black factory Dell W max unit A on V The graphics card company recommends a W supply but everywhere I have read has said that my power supply should EASILY handle this graphics card I have read about several people using much less watts and amps and having no problems I wish I had an extra power supply to test the computer with but I don t have one So this is the next step unless there is something I m missing hopefully So basically what is happening is that the computer has no problems if I use the integrated graphics and associated VGA output However once I put the AGP card into the slot the monitor acts like it is not getting a signal from either the graphics card or the factor VGA port The rest of the computer is getting plenty of power and I m pretty sure that it is fully booting into windows but the monitor is blank As far as the card the fan is spinning and it seems to be getting power but there is just not video output I ve tried the VGA DVI and HDMI inputs I ve adjusted the AGP aperture in bios and nothing changed I ve also tried disconnecting everything but the PSU fan hard drive and video card but this made no difference I have tried uninstalling the integrated graphics driver as well as having the most recent one installed I don t have another computer with an AGP slot to try the card in I m at a loss for what could be going on since it seems to be getting power Here is my info from CPU-Z CPU Intel P Northwood Socket mPGA Ghz MHz bus speed MHz rated FSB L Cache KB L KB Motherboard Dell H Intel i chipset Bios Dell A updated to this and it didn t help Memory GB DDR Dual Channel Graphics Intel G Integrated Graphics Controller OS Windows XP SP DirectX C Any ideas If I can t get it working soon I need to ship it back to Newegg to meet the return policy so I d appreciate some quick help Thanks nbsp
The specs for this card show that 300 watts is the minimum spec for a power supply. Make sure the first video device in the bios is set for AGP and not PCI video
ok so i have a dv hp pavillion with win vista home premium actually the laptop is a series but that shouldnt matter to much just for some of you to pinpoint the problem more accurately First of all thanks for reading and trying to diagnose this wierd problem Problem is as states i originally found a problem with my laptop shortly turning it off one day the problem was that when i closed the lid on the laptop shortly after it would shut down as in not sleep but i could hear the hdd awkardly turn on hear the fan then it would kick off and power problem hp pavillion Laptop lid dv9000 i could hear the hdd loose power like if you were to unplug a from a usb connection passed it as a power issue and quickly went into the power settings to make sure that hybrid hybernation was turned off that sleep was the only option for lid Laptop dv9000 hp pavillion lid power problem closings and there were no timers on and everything is how it should have been and dismissed the problem once again shortly after noticing this problem it the power issue when i close the lid became more of an instant thing like it would try to sleep only to have the computer go into a state loosing power all together as i shut the lid or something to that effect so i thought that the lid option or some sys driver may have failed or became corrupt over several years of using my laptop so i decided to venture into the old manual and box get the system restore disks and proceed unfortuantely this didnt fix the problem either so i have elimenated several things so far one itts not the power options two its not the OS itself so i thought it may be something else and started to just shut the computer down when i had to close the lid but to my suprise even if i shut the comptuer down via the Fn Fx button or the start shutdown option and waited untill the computer fully shut down and then closed the lid it still did the same thing as i would close the lid it would power on only briefly then shut off as if it would totally loose power so now i am at a standstill and am asking for some help as i have no idea what this is other than the lid switch or something more familiar with these laptop models and it being something more of the internal hardware any help will work and i can post any type of diagnostic data needed thanks ps the laptop is officially a dv cl with a C D ghz processor gb of ddr mhz two hdds one has been replaced the os drive a gb wd black mb cache and the second is the factory installed hitatchi gb storage drive both independent from each other nbsp
Have you tried restoring the laptop to the original purchased state? Or even doing a Windows Restore to an earlier time?
Hi my computer never turns on first time and I often have to turn the pull out the plug or turn the plug off I m in the UK then wait a few minutes then turn it back on then wait another few minutes before pressing on the power button when it finally turns trouble Computer turning having on on Sometimes Computer having trouble turning on when I turn the electricity on at the wall the computer box makes a high-pitched whirring noise For whatever reason the computer ONLY ever turns on when this noise is there If I turn the Computer having trouble turning on plug on and there is no noise I can guarantee the computer will definitely not turn on and I have to turn it off and wait another few minutes before trying again I was wondering if it has anything to do with external USB things Computer having trouble turning on plugged in wireless dongle to be specific so I took them all out before trying to turn the computer on but it doesn t seem to make a difference Sometimes it acts like one of those old lawnmowers where it takes several pulls on the ignition to turn it on E g I press the power button on the box and it turns on but then seconds later it literally runs out of steam and turns off again Also on other occasions I press the power button and the little light comes on showing that the computer is thinking and really bizarrely the CD drive works you can make it come out and in but the actually computer is not turned on the power light is off Any suggestions gratefully received many thanks nbsp
Try installing another power supply

PCI BUS2 Device 5 Function 3
PCI Bus 0 Device 1 Function 3
Thanks In Advance
Please give a lot more detail as to computer, configuration, and problem.
My friend has bought this graphics card:
(GeForce 210, 64-bit, DDR2 PIC-E, in case you don't trust the linK)
She's saying that her monitor doesn't turn on (no power light) when she pulgs in her new video card, but her onboard still works. I had her install the new drivers before putting the new card it, and that didn't work, and we tried resetting her bios. I know she has a Slimline system, but i'm not sure on the mobo specs
she might have you take out the new video card so she can get into the bios to turn off the on-board video
HI guys im new here. I'm Having problems with my PC it suddenly turns off for i don't know what reasons its not overheating as i cheked with everest. hope you guys can help me

it seams to me what you need to to do is reinstall windows vista and then go from there, if you have some money then go buy windows 7

Cheaper to replace that 5-year old. You got your money worth out of that display.
This computer is new and for no apparant reson it turns off after 10-20 minutes. I do not know why this is happening
The computer is an Acer aspire Intel core dual processer 7735g
It could be a heat issue. Overheating will shut down a system real fast. Since this new I would contact Acer A.S.A.P. and tell them to either fix the issue or you want a new one.
could it be static electricity? It was working but then it stopped working the same day I just brought it home took it out to use then it just won't turn on.. :S I tried taking out the battery then plug it in AC nothing pit battery back in nothing its just not turning on period. I'm thinking I need a new battery? The laptop's called; by HP btw nc64000
turns out its my AC Adapter thats messed up, I need to get a new one.
Does the battery have any charge at all?
hi my name is thomas has anyone come across this fault
hp pavillion dv 6500 blank screen
It is an issue that has been reported before. How old is your DV6500? And what is the model number from the label on the back?
My HP Pavillion Laptop has stopped booting. I only get the blue powerlights to flash briefly once. I have tried removing the battery, disconnecting the bios battery - all to no avail.
Following hp's troubleshooting guides, this points to a cpu failure - is it worth replacing the CPU (AMD) - or does the whole motherboard need replacing.
There have been huge issues with that series of HP laptops... I suggest you call HP and discuss the problem. HP has recently admitted some of these problems and has accommodated some owners with repairs, even out of warranty repairs.
It is my understanding that it is a motherboard problem, and the CPU is fine... but my info is all second hand... so call HP and be persistent.
Hi I recently put a Thread on here asking what could cause my laptop to have no power on a morning when it had full power the night before I just found out last night I was in bed when an odd noise woke me up I went towards my desk and my laptop CD drive was spinning so itself ON turning Laptop I popped up the screen and the laptop had turned itself on This only happens when I hibernate the laptop but doesn t do it when I completely shut down I dont want to completely shut Laptop turning itself ON down all the time because Hibernate turns on faster but I dont want my laptop to turn on all the time The laptop only turns on during the night on its own and not during the day I dont have it plugged into the main when it does this or into a network The worst thing is that it is Laptop turning itself ON usually in my laptop bag on a night when it does this which is really bad because it could overheat Laptop turning itself ON so please does anyone know what can cause this problem Thanks Ben nbsp
Hi, this happened to me once when I was borrowing my friends Apple Macbook Pro.
You say you have it in your laptop bag, is it on the floor by any chance?
The Mac Pro would start up again because when walking into bed the floor would shake a little and the Laptop picked it up making it start up again, try making sure the top is securely closed and maybe take it off the floor if is on it

Pull the motherboard out of the case and run it on an insulated pad. See if it boots up normally on the monitor. If not, the motherboard or CPU is defective... ASrock
I often leave my computer running and downloading or installing things for long periods of time. During this time I turn my monitor off to save power, but I frequently turn it back on to use it or check on progress. I know that turning florescent light bulbs on and off often significantly decreases their life span, and I was wondering if it was the same case with the cold cathode tubes in LCD monitors. Thanks for any input!
As I understand it, the more you turn anything on and off the faster it wears out. You are doing the right thing by preserving your LCD, but you should be using the screen saver (power) settings to turn the monitor off, or better yet, just use a blank screen saver.
Just wtwo hours ago my Gateway FPD1975w 19" LCD monitor was bumbed (not hard enough to break anything) and it shut off and went into "Theft Deterrent Mode" and prompted me to enter a three didget code to disable it. As i was entering the code i accidentally hit enter before i finished entering the code and the monitor powered itself off again. since then i have not been able to turn the monitor on reguradless of what i try, pushing power button, pushing menu buttons, unplugging power or video, restarting the computer it's hooked up to, holding down power/menu buttons, everything... if anyone knows what is going on with my monitor would you please let me know what i could do to fix it. I've had the monitor almost two years now and have no problems until today.
ANy help would be very much appreciated.
I have a Compaq Presario NX9005 as a project laptop.
When I put a stick of tested RAM into the machine and press the power button the power light flashes. And that's all the machine does. The battery charging light on the front is continually flashing. No CPU fan, no power to the screen.
I have tried replacing the CPU and disconnected the DVD, Keyboard, Touchpad etc to no avail.
any help will be appreciated.
The problem here is the fact that you're attempting to use a compaq. The solution then is to chuck it and get a real computer.
Biases aside, the problem seems clearly to be that of the psu or in this case the battery. Is there a difference when the laptop is plugged in versus on battery power? if there is no difference, you may have to check the capacitors ability to retain a charge and thus power the various components of the computer. You can check this with a voltometer. You should also check the power supply connections to the various units as well. Hope that helps....
I have a Packard Bell laptop, it was working fine, then one day went to turn it on and nothing...except for the cooling fan turning on. The standby light etc comes on, but no operational noises, ie harddrive booting up. It's really baffled me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
It would be helpful to know age and model.
Packard Bell is still a popular computer in the United Kingdom, but nowhere else.
Common causes are failed cooling fan, failed hard drive, memory module gone bad, cooling ports filled with dust and dirt.
Once a laptop has stopped, something must be replaced before it will begin working once more. so if you do not have experience inside the case, solicit the help of a knowledgable friend.
Ok so I have an acer aspire one the small type of laptop. Last night it was working fine and I fell asleep with of on my pillow. It fell on the carpet with the power cord still plugged in and fell on the top. Now this morning I tried to turn it on it ran for a few mins then turned off. I tried it again, got to where it starts after I log in then turned straight off. I have tried taking the battery out, re plugging the charger into a different outlet but nothing will keep it running. Can someone please help I don't know what's wrong with it considering it was working perfectly fine last night.?
First of all, you should be very careful with laptops, they run too hot...
I can't really ask how it fell, because you weren't watching, how does the DC jack (where the power cords plugs in) feel? Does the charge light come on when it's plugged in? Is the battery charged? If you made it to the log-in screen, I can only guess (and hope) that the battery isn't charging. Some laptops don't work without the battery plugged; I don't know if Acer is one of them...
Let us know what you can come up with.

I recently had to replace the mother board in my HP Pavillion a620n because of a nearby lightning strike. The replacement was done by a certified technician. Now when I shut the PC down I must turn off the powe strip it is connected to, turn the power stip back on and then press the power button on the top right of the PC case.
Prior to the replacement all I had to do was press the power buitton. I have checked all power settings etc and they are correct.
When I turn the power strip back on the hard drive accesss light flickers, the DVD drive light flashes and the fan start. I then pust the power button and the computer boots.
The power supply is the first piece of hardware to be hit by a power surge. it also may have been damaged

Are the parts still under warranty?
I have a Compaq V that has been working pretty well until I installed Windows Vista about months ago Then on goes blank Compaq after turning laptop screen it started shutting off all the time randomly like minutes after I would turn it on and I got that to stop Then randomly I Compaq laptop screen goes blank after turning on came home and my computer screen was black and I turned it off Compaq laptop screen goes blank after turning on and took the battery out however the Compaq laptop screen goes blank after turning on lights on the keypad stayed on even the power light Then when I took out the power cord and put it back it the lights turned off Finally after several tries I got my computer to turn on all the way Then I turned it back off that night and the next morning it would not turn back on I have been working on it for over a week now and still get the same outcome Here s exactly what happens I turn my computer on then the Compaq startup screen comes up then the screen goes black and when I try to hit F or F a real fast message comes and goes it s hard to even read but it says quot Operating system not found quot It did this before I got it to turn on that last time too but then I got it to turn on But now I just keep getting the same outcome I got the F page to come up one time and I was told that my harddrive looked like it was going bad but they couldn t tell for sure Please help nbsp
Well I see two possible solutions. A. OS problem or B. your HDD is going bad.
So what i would recommend is if you have a old HDD laying around use it and try reinstalling your os on it. if it works then your HDD is probably bad so purchase a new one.
Do you have any external harddrives hooked up to your system?
Answer me about the external first before proceeding

I have found from personal experience that HP is decent on responding to upgrade questions. They should be able to tell you what can and cannot be upgraded and then buy the parts from a cheaper source.
New here any help would be ridiculously appreciated!!
Here's my issue, I have a laptop that trys to boot then comes back with an error of an invalid partition table.
I have tried to re-format it with the operating system (XP Home) it gets to a point and the machine just shuts down. Won't re-format.
I have tried to run memtest86+ on it and it does the same thing, runs for a bit but then the machine shuts down. I did notice while running memtest that one of the categories.. Chipset stated it was disabled, is that a sign of a dead motherboard??
CAN I FIX THIS AT ALL??????
Microsoft's Windows XP Home Repair Install step by step (* Including Delete Partition)
* Warning deleting the Partition will remove all User data and Windows system files
Can be done on HP or Dell as well Actually any Windows computer
Oh I removed your not required reply on the memtest guide too
I have a 22" LG Flatron W2234GS LCD monitor which I bought under six months ago.
Unless you have wiring/power problems at the location you are situated in, it sounds like the monitor is going defective with a thermal problem. It is possible, though unlikely, that it could be a problem with the power cord to the monitor, so if you have a spare one, it would be worth swapping to see if that helps. Otherwise, what is the warranty on the monitor?
My laptop is having a problem, Whenever I turn it on it's bottom lights flicker 3 times and then it doesn't boot up. The screen doesn't come on, But it is charged, It I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, But it wasn't successful, I am not sure what kind the laptop is though, Although I'm quite sure that it isn't a Dell Laptop. The laptop has 200 and something gigabytes, And it doesn't contain any viruses, If you have any clue of what is happening to my laptop please explain, I'd greatly appreciate it. :suspiciou
I fixed it I charged it.
Thanks for the update, also try here first if it happens again:

Help! I've got a problem with my laptop keyboard. The touchpad works fine but every time I try using the keyboard, everything freezes. Even the volume control buttons on the side of the laptop won't work. Right now the keyboards are disabled, saying that they've been disabled since the drivers may be corrupt or missing. I've been using the on-screen keyboard, but it's so hard to type documents. I hope you can give me advice on how to resolve this. Thanks much!
BTW, my laptop's model is ze4908us (i mixed 8 & 0 on the title) ==sorry!
Hi rhaiven29, please first confirm that all your System Drivers are up to date
You can do this by going here and clicking on "Start Detection" button http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic100655.html
I read the posting CM Lanman, explaining basicially the very same problem I'm experiencing with HP Pavillion zt3000 laptop. When I boot the computer up, all I get is a black screen, any help out there.
Can you boot all the way into Normal Mode at all (if there's a problem you may have to wait like ten mins) ?
Can you boot into Safe Mode successfully ?
Standby does not work since I installed the latest XP SP3.
When the 1230 goes into standby, the screen goes blank and the keyboard is locked. It will not quickly resume with an active screen regardless of which key is depressed. In order to recover, the power must be turned off, and then back on in order to continue. In effect, standby works like hibernate, even though hibernate is not enabled. Any ideas about the cause of this type of problem?
Does the BIOS have to be updated??
You could try removing SP3 and see if the computer returns to normal
I have a problem with my pc everytime I reboot the monitor is on but as soon as it is about to open the desk top it goes off!! can anyone help please?
Boot into Safe mode (by repeatedly pressing F8 key before Windows starts up)
Once Safe Mode is selected, continue loading and log into your Administrator account
At Safe Mode windows Desktop (answering Yes) to get to the Desktop
Click on Start->Run-> Devmgmt.msc
Locate "Display Adapters" and then click on the + sign to expand your actual video adapter
Right click on that adapter, and select remove (or un-install, or delete)
Once the video adapter has been removed, restart normally
When Windows starts up again in Normal mode, it will find the Video device and will try to locate drivers to install it.
If it cannot locate the drivers, you may need to download them from the net
Hi there I just happened to stumble upon this site thanks to Google It seems that this problem with the DC adapter jack is quite common on these computers which puzzles me when I try to - jack adapter HP pavillion bad DC zv5000 figure out why HP doesn t have the XC cable no longer available I have a zv series notebook and although it s done it s work it is still quite reliable for the kids If I knew about the XC cable years ago when the problem started I would have bought one in a hurry The problem initially wasn t a broken solder connection it was due to the jack HP pavillion zv5000 - bad DC adapter jack being tapered so I made a paper thin sleeve to go over the adapter end so it would prevent it from touching the plastic tip at least it lasted for a while - years Can anyone out there please let me know where I can obtain a XC cable or dock for this HP pavillion zv5000 - bad DC adapter jack computer Thanks in advance nbsp
Try Ebay. The problem with laptops is the fact that the metal/plastic connector that is around the power input gets shaved, bent, or broken. Your situation seems to be the shaved. The contacts arent touching fully and is not able to provide the correct ammount of power to the laptop. This could be either INSIDE the jack, or INSIDE the power adapters port. If it is the port, you should be fine going to walmart and picking up a universal power adapter for about 20 dollars. If it is the Laptops port, then you need to go to a radioshack or possibly order it from the manufacturer to re-solder on. Let us know what you can observe.
I've just built my self a new p.c. when i turn it on, after about 10-15mins it just turns itself off (no error screens just straight off).
I thought it was a cpu overheating problem so i downloaded speedfan to monitor temperatures and tried again.
So I turned it on again and it went of again but my cpu temp never rose above 34 degrees.
Is that too hot for a phenom?? if not what else could cause it to turn off?
my specs are:
gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H mobo
4x1gb ocz fatal1ty ram
ez cool 700w psu
any help appreciated
Look at the thermal past on your heatsink. It can be too thick as easily as it can be too thin.
Re-read all the manuals and trouble shooting which came with the Gigabyte board, and also search online for problems with that model.
Try another videographics card to see if the problem goes away.
