I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.  Let us know how it goes!  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

hi,

I'm using win8 release preview. It shows available WiFi networks to me but when i try to connect it shows cannot connect.
I have tried reinstalling WiFi drivers in win 7 compatibility mode, after this step it connects to network for 2 min or so and then disconnects and doesn't allow me to connect again. This happens every time I reinstall my drivers.
what should I do? please help

thanks..

A:wifi network available but not connecting....

Bumping to say that I bought Windows 8 and it created this problem for me, where the release preview did not. Strange.

I can see my wireless network but not connect. I ran through all of the built in diagnostic tools to no avail. Device Manager said my drivers were up to date. My other devices can connect to wifi fine so I know the problem isn't with my router. Please help!

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

HIMy HP250G3NOTEBOOK network adaptor won't connect to our home WiFi but other devices can still connect. I have tried disabling and enabling the network adaptor, making sure air plane mode is off, refreshing the PC, restarting the router and troubleshooting the network adaptor. I have also followed the steps on the HP network and troubleshooting. The WiFi can only connect if I plug in an Ethernet cable, but it is very inconvenient.  Thanks,Vanesia.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT

I have  a Lenovo Flex 2-14 with Windows 10. Whenever I connect to a Wi-Fi network other than the one at home I get a BSOD with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Any ideas on what I can check? Thanks in advance. One of the characteristics is that when the PC restarts after the crash I can't see the network that I tried to join for about 2-3 minutes afterwards. I have checked that WIndows and the drivers are up to date.

Im guessing this was after I tried installing an Atheros driver. After restarting and attempting to connect to a nearby WiFi network the computer goes straight to a BSOD. Help is needed fast and appreciated.

A:BSOD connecting to wifi network

Hello,

It seems a bunch of people are experiencing problems with the latest Atheros network drivers. Try using the Driver Rollback feature in Device Manager, or else uninstall the driver and install an older version. Any problems, let us know!

I'm trying to connect my desktop, whose wifi mysteriously stopped working, back into my wireless network. Having finally given up on doing it wirelessly, I was about to cave and go buy a long ethernet cable to connect to the router directly when I had a thought. Is it possible to connect my desktop to my laptop via an ethernet cable and then just piggyback off of my laptop, whose wireless connection does work?

I tried just plugging an ethernet cable in to the two computers, but that didn't work (and, in fact, screwed with my laptop's wireless, but that's another, already solved problem). I have no idea what other information you might need, so just ask.

A:Connecting to a wifi network via ethernet

I think what you have to do is go to the network and sharing center in Control Panel, click Adapter settings. Then highlight both adapters and right click. Select Bridge connections. I'm not sure if that does it or not. It's been a while since I've done something similar, but its worth a shot.

A:my laptop is not connecting to wifi network

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros AR5007EG & AR5007
We have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters for over a year, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't connect to internet wirelessly - Atheros AR5007 Wifi through Clear Comm - Tech Support Guy Forums

If you can post the Make and EXACT model of your PC here, along with the windows version you have and we will see if we can find the driver and will post a link as a reply here.

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue

--- 4) A few posters here with the same issue have found that the driver from this site ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows resolved the issue
Threads are here

Solved: NetGear WNDR3700 Incompatibilty W/ Atheros AR5700 - Tech Support Guy Forums

Unidentified Network
I do NOT know anything about the site mentioned ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows

However, if you do decide to try the driver, Please let us know the outcome

Direct link to the drivers are below
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " click to download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

AR5007
Vista 32 Bit
Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista
Although this driver has shown up in BSODs (Blue Screen Of Death) on Vista SP2 systems, usually conflicting with updated Vista OS drivers like netio.sys, tcpip.sys and other networking related drivers.

AR5007EG
Vista 32 Bit
Drivers for Atheros AR5007EG and Windows Vista
Assuming that after all the above the wireless still does not connect to the internet, all I can suggest is to use wireless security of WEP or to get an external USB wireless card.

You might also bug your laptop's tech support about the problem--maybe people can put pressure on Atheros to find a fix.

Before going to work this morning I put my computer on hibernate, when I came back my wifi networking was down. It is not that I am connected to a network but cannot open internet, my wifi network does not start up. The little red light does not turn blue! I have no idea why it is not working, any suggestions appreciated.

A:HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC WiFi network not working

Hey, reasons for the light not to turn blue could be a problem with the physical hardware itself, being that it somehow shorted or something along those lines.

Another reason could be that it is not being supplied power, once a computer goes into hibernation mode it is given the right to stop power to that device, and possibly once starting back up, there was no power given to the Wireless? Have you tried to shutdown the computer normally and try it again? Another reason would be that the wireless settings and everything are all controlled by a service, and maybe the service failed to start. Rather then get you to go to the exact spot and try and turn on the service, just restart the computer. If that doesn't work and you want to try and manually start the service, reply back that you would like to do so and I will try and step you through it.

Other things to try - Reinstall the drivers for the wireless adapter, you will need to go to HP's website, type in your DV9500 as well as the other numbers on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker, located near your prodocut key usually...

if you are comfortable with opening the laptop up, on the bottom side of the laptop, one of the covers will likely have the wireless card in side, it is connected by 2 wires, a black and a white, if you go to take the card out remember where each cord goes. You can take the card out, boot up the computer, shut it down, reseat the card, and boot up the computer, see if anything comes up..

WARNING: If attempting to remove the wireless adapter card, please be aware that if the card is not damaged, you could damage the card, make sure you are grounded when working inside of the laptop, as well make sure that there is NO POWER to the laptop, this means Remove both the battery and the power cord..

Nothing else comes to mind of what it could be...

If you can't get it to work, try safe mode with networking, if still nothing, I would suggest to bring it to a shop to see if they have a way to test the physical card in a similar laptop or possibly have a new card to test in yours..

EDIT: This is something I found on the Mobile section of this forum where a fix was found on other HP Dv**** Models,

WARNING:Please read the full post that suggests the fix, as it does warn that this CAN cause further damage. This test raises the computers core temperature as well as other components to try and warm them up if there are any cold joints on it, But may damage components due to high temperatures. WARNING

I have a laptop I use for work and connect to a hotspot with it, when I came home to connect to my house network router I am able but it comes up limited so there in no interent contection,,,.. How to I change it so I get the interent on with my house wifi?

A:Connecting to home wifi network limited

Call your Help Desk. My wife's does that, until she goes in and disable the Proxy in Internet Properties in Control Panel. Just remember to turn back on.

The first time she brought it home, because they replaced her older unit. IT had made a Fat Finger mistake in the VPN connection.

So when she tried to get on our home WiFi, it did the same as yours. Plus her work a GPO, to restrict her from using any LAN or WiFi connection, but the company's.

Hi. I'm using a Gateway NV54 laptop and the wifi isn't connecting to the home network or internet. The wifi worked before the install, but not after. I have another laptop and the wifi works fine for it.

Recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit. Installed all drivers. Current wireless driver is Intel Wireless LAN Driver (since the laptop uses Intel Pentium processor).

When I click my home network in the list of connections it asks for the security key. I put in the key and immediately it says "windows was unable to connect to this network." Tried this multiple times. I can connect with ethernet but not wireless.

Tried pressing Xfinity router wireless button to pick up the laptop but it didn't work. Tried logging into Xfinity router from the other computer and manually put the laptop's computer name and mac address into router, restarted router, still can't connect.

Any ideas? Thanks.

looks like you have an ipaddress

can you do the following three pings tests

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

For Windows 8
to open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

Type the following command
Ping {then a space and then add the number that is shown against the item labelled "default gateway" shown in the results from the ipconfig /all}
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router.
The next two Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet. google is to test by name and the ping test using a number is checking that a connection exists without DNS.
these tests then confirm if there is a dns issue on the connection.Click to expand...

When I was at someone's house I was trying to get online but her network didn't appear on my list moreover she had a different network that showed up that she said I should use. It asked for a username and password so she had me go into network and sharing center and create a profile for it that let me go online. Now i am at another store and I cannot easily get online. When I connect to WiFi my pages don't load. Is there something I have to remove in that setting I changed to use the wep internet? Posted from my phone cuz I can't view the internet on my pc.

I have a HP Envy laptop running on Windows 8.1 (did not update. it came with it)
I have never had a problem connecting my house's internet network.
However, today i woke up, i turn on or restart the PC. it was already on, and i tried using the internet, i wasn't connected.
I lsearched for my wifi network. didn't find it.
Restarted the PC and tried disabling and then re-enabling the adapter, still couldn't find it.
Rebooted the router. nothing happened.
I even reset the router and still couldn't find it. (firmware up to date) (Netgear)
This only happens to my Windows 8 PC.
All other devices (PCs, Phones and tablets...even the TV) are working fine wirelessly.
That's why i posted this on Windows 8.
The PC works perfectly using an ethernet cable.

Hi -
I have a brand new (5 days old) Toshiba A505 running Windows 7 64 bit.
On restarts and coming out of hibernation, the connection to my home router seems to take an excessive amount of time to connect -- about 5 minutes sometimes.

I run ZoneAlarm and AVG (Free).

I haven't touched any settings (that I know of) but it seems like it should pick up the Wifi right away -- instead, I often just have to wait and wait and wait and sometimes not until I hit the troubleshooting option does it connect.

Any ideas what could be happening or how I might be able to fix this?

Thanks,
Adam

It could be many things. I would start looking at your networking. I assume you are running homegroup. If so, homegroup sometimes, on some systems, has connection problems. You can see if that is the problem by making a new network connection and using workgroup instead. If it works you can disable IPv6 and kill homegroup

Let us know if you need help

I'm guessing the D-Link device came with a wireless connection manager software? It's possible that it's not set to automatically connect which you should be able to change. If at all possible there should be an option to allow windows to control the wireless stick, that way you can make sure it's set to automatically connect.

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated adapter get the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

A:Notebook drops wifi connection randomly- Ralink network card

It sounds to me like a signal problem. A competing signal drowning out your wireless signal can cause these kinds of random losses.

To test for this try this program:
inSSIDer for Home – Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek
It will tell you if you have a stronger signal in your area that is interfering with the channel.

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

Hi,
we deployed a RADIUS wifi network using PEAP with MSChapV2 for authentication (FreeRADIUS server). While it has always worked with all of our Windows 7 clients flawlessly, we are having issues with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 clients. Connecting works again
fine if a local user account is used. As soon as we use a domain-joined account it will not connect.
We are using a certificate signed by our company's custom certificate authority for the RADIUS server. We've verified that the CA is correctly installed and also tried a connection without verification of the certificate.
We are also using the latest available driver from Intel for the wifi card.
Do you have any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

A few day before the wifi disappers, my laptop had started to lag every few seconds. I tried to find a solution for this problem, but it was of no avail. After the last time I restarted it, it did not recognize any wifi or network. the upper keys have all stopped working, and the screen has become very bright. Moreover, troubleshooting does not recognize any problem.I'd appreciate any help.

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a Dell Wireless WLAN. I connect to my wireless connection at home fine, but any time I take my computer to a wifi hotpsot, it cannot connect. I SEE that there is a network there, I click "connect" to that network, and my computer doesn't do anything. My Wireless is set to obtain IP addresses automatically, so that is not the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might try to fix this??

Thanks!

Hi, i have maddening issues with my internet.

I own an Acer One notebook and up until a month ago internet worked just fine. Lately it is very slow when i'm in my room (download speed 0.08 sometimes) but it works in 2 spots and it gets better as i get closer to the router (it's downstairs). We have 2 PCs and another laptop using the same router and they all work fine, even in my room.

I've checked for viruses and malware (MS Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware), emptied cache and temp files, reset router, i don't know what else to do.
Would reinstalling wireless driver do it? I'd need some help finding it.

Btw i am running windows 7 and it's a 32bit.

Thanks in advance for any input!

A:My HP 250 G3 Notebook Cant find my Wifi

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure your router is broadcasting from the 2.4 GHz wireless band. If you have your router set to 5.0 GHz only, that would be why the Ralink wireless adapter can't find your network, but it can see many others. That card can only work on the 2.4 GHz wireless band.

A:Notebook WiFi Connection help!

Well, first off, remove 802.1x authentication! Unless you're connecting to a corporate wireless network with a RADIUS server, you'll never get that working.
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Hi: Your PC is not supported by HP for W8, and there are no W8 wireless card drivers that I know of. You can see if this W8 ethernet driver from the 250 G1 notebook works for you. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5359432&swItemId=ob_118356_1&swEnvOid=413... Your only option as I see it, is to connect via ethernet, install the required W8 updates so you can get the free upgrade to W8.1 Pro from the windows store, then you can install the drivers listed on the 250 G3 support page.

I have an HP notebook, model dv8 & it has had this problem for over a year. It randomly turns off the wifi connection - the button to turn the connection on/off on the keyboard turns orange from blue. When I press on the button, it reconnects. Sometimes the pc stays connected for a couple of hours & sometimes it goes right back off. When it goes off the pc may reconnect on it's own only to go back off a moment later.

It is NOT my router because my other 3 pcs have never done this. This pc is running Windows 7 & the router is Linksys N. The pc has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN network adapter. I tried reseating the card by opening the back, pulling the card out, & reinstalling it. After that I did not have a problem for 2 whole days!

Would replacing the wifi card fix this problem?

Not only am I a WiFi newbie I'm also a Windows newbie as well I learned to use computers on Mac Apple computers This just adds to my dilemma and confusion OK here's where I'm at right now I have an HP laptop windows x bit that I've been trying to get to Connecting WiFi Not connect to several local WiFi hotspots I've only been successful at connecting one time This was at a local BestBuy store and the internet speed was next to non-existent The sales person stated it WiFi Not Connecting was most likely because alot of their in-store demo-products were also connected to the same WiFi and it created a drag on the internet speed WiFi Not Connecting In an effort to connect to other free WiFi hotspots in my vicinity I built a quot Long Range WiFi Antenna quot It works WiFi Not Connecting like gangbusters regardless of which direction I aim it And many of the hotspots I'm able to pick up are nationally known Free-WiFi-Hotspots The problem is that no matter how strong of a signal I'm receiving I can't connect to the internet via any of these hotspots I'll get a message on my laptop telling me that it can't connect to the chosen hotspot There has to be something that I'm missing here My Mac computers will work but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my windows based laptop My quot Long Range WiFi quot antenna set up is a combination of a C Crane Super-USB-WiFi-Antenna and an old Dish-Network parabolic dish plugged directly into the USB port on my laptop The combined number of both the Private and Free WiFi hotspots in every direction is almost mind boggling and I can't connect to any one of them There would be absolutely no need to even consider entry into any private WiFi networks To the North of me are hotspots that include the public library city utilities and various restaurants To the South of me is a MacDonalds a starbucks and other restaurants offering free WiFi To the East and West are basically the same plethora of Free WiFi hotspots Can one of you WiFi savvy guys tell me what I'm doing wrong or if I'm missing anything in the way of hardware My knowledge of WiFi and Windows is so limited that I'm not sure if I've even given you enough pertinent information to be able to help me out If you need more info please let me know I'll do the best I can to get that information if it will help me access the Free WiFi I'm surrounded by This is driving me insane I alway imagined that connecting to a WiFi Hotspot would be easy as clicking on the WiFi icon in the lower right hand corner of my screen Thanks for your help HollowPoint

A:WiFi Not Connecting

Info in your profile in the system specs would help greatly...PC/Laptop maker, model, ditto on the network adapters from your Device Manager. A screenshot of your adapter page from network and sharing...what anti-virus are you using, error messages you may have gotten while trying to connect, search for and install Xirrus WiFi desktop gadget, will show you signal strengths and channel info of surrounding connections. I can guess you have an HP with Atheros wifi adapter, have you tried updating the driver for the adapter at HP?

Hi FoldedBrick, and welcome to TSG.

FoldedBrick said:

Well, you or somebody else at your house is going to have to supply a bit more information about the WiFi set-up being used.

1) Name and brand of the wireless router or wireless access point being used to share the Internet connection.

2) The SSID of the wireless router or wireless access point and if it is set to broadcast the SSID.

3) What, if any kind of wireless encryption is being used and the key or pass phrase for that encryption. You do not need to tell us the actual key or pass phrase.

4) If the wireless router or wireless access is using any kind of MAC filtering to limit which computers and other hardware can connect to the wireless router or wireless access.

Hi guys, I found an old computer in my basement from 2005 maybe, it's running windows xp. Anyways, I'm can't figure out how to connect it to my xfinity wifi. Every time I press connect to Internet it asks about modems. I've googled how to connect it and I can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A:Help connecting to wifi

Hey Ryan. Is this a laptop or desktop. If it's a desktop, it likely doesn't have a wireless adapter that will allow connection to you wireless network. If it's a laptop, right click on My Computer,Properties, select Device Manager tab, then look for Network Adapters and click once on the + and see if you see any wireless adapter listed and if it is enabled. You can enable/disable a wireless adapter by right clicking and toggling between enable/disable. In either case, it probably needs quite a bit of work to get it up to date, and assuming everything else seems ok, I myself would start from scratch and reformat the drive and reinstall XP (assuming you have an XP disk for it) since any maintenance programs are just as old. If you're not sure about this, tell us the make and model number of this pc.

I have two wifi APs (let's say AP-1 and AP-2) and I sometimes have to switch from one to the other. The AP-1 is my main AP so it is always set with "Connect Automatically" for boot up. But, a lot of the time it does not connect to either AP on boot.

When I need to use AP-2, I select AP-1 and click "Disconnect."

I select AP-2 and Click "Connect" leaving "Connect Automatically" un-checked.

After using AP-2, I again select it and click "Disconnect."

Then select AP-1 and make sure the "Connect automatically" is checked, then Connect.

At the next reboot, about 40% of the times it connects to AP-1 but the rest of the time it connects to neither even though "Connect Automatically" is still checked..

Anyone have some thoughts on how to force this so that it always connects to AP-1 on booting up?

hi,
I'm looking for help with my wireless internet!
I have a packard bell netbook and have had problems connecting to the internet for a while using wireless connection, it is connected but often goes off ALOT and so impossible to watch movies and streaming.
When i troubleshoot the connection it usually comes back on, and ALWAYS comes back on when the option of 'repair as administrator' is given.
The rest of the house connects fine wirelessly so it had to be something to do with my laptop maybe the driver im not sure not very good with it all!
I have bought a dongle 802.11 n WLAN with the hope of it picking up the connection better, but it will not install!
''device driver software was not successfully installed'' appears everytime i try!

can somebody help me out?
sorry if this has been asked and already solved!

thanks
steph

A:Wifi and dongle - on a notebook/netbook

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver for the integrated adapter from Packard Bell's web site. If you already have that driver reinstall it in case the installed instance is corrupted.

What operating system?

What security applications are, or ever were, on the system?

I had recently had downgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 8 (Pro) using an installiation disk I got from college (but didn't use it until now). The installiation was successful, but the laptop does not recognize any wireless wifi signals. My old laptop and other household products are able to connect to the wifi just fine. (using my old laptop to type this message). I believe I had wiped the drivers that were previously installed when I had downgraded. What should I do?My laptop (the one I want to fix) is an HP Notebook 15 touchscreen. (Product code on box: 15-F211WM)Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

When you uninstalled the driver, did you download the new driver from the Atheros site then install the new driver? If you didn't do it this way, you might want to do the proper way.

I bought a new HP notebook 15-ac158nr today from Office Depot and got home, set it up, and my wifi is HORRIBLE. I am not getting anything over 800 Kbps. I had a 7 yr. old HP that was getting great wifi access (before it finally went died).  Nothing is wrong with my router or access. It has been working great for over a year with my old HP. Even when I get right next to my router i'm gettin around max 3Mbps. I can't run anything (youtube, pandora, ect.). I downloaded and installed the latest driver for the wifi from the HP website, but it did not help. Do I have a bad machine? I was very excited about this purchase, and am now VERY dissapointed. My old HP was a beast, and I can't even watch a video on this. Please advise. Thank you,Chad

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

http://go.pardot.com/l/66982/2015-01-26/2361i
enter you details
Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Alternative links - Use the links below
Do NOT use any of the download managers offered - Cnet , just use the direct link below - and click on the download button

http://download.cnet.com/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-Inspector/3000-18508_4-75758254.html
Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here
http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.

Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

You could get a wifi extender which would make the wifi signal stronger & improve the reception for your wireless devices. There's no guarantee a wifi extender will solve your buffering issue but it should help.

A:trouble connecting pc to wifi

make and model of PC
Make and model of router / modem
do you have wireless secruity enabled - what type of secruity - the desktop may not support it
Try taking secruity off and see if it connects

You will need to save to notepad and copy to the working PC
Post an ipconfig /all for both machines - make sure we know which is which
{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here
TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

------------------------------
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} > network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X

for windows 7
start > control panel>
System and Security>
Device Manager

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need to save to notepad and copy to the working PC
Download and install
http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

Then run the program and post a screen shot of the program running
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Yesterday my son bought a Y700.  It wouldn't connect to our wifi unless it was literally within 5' of the router. We returned it to Best Buy today and exchanged it for a new one.  The customer service rep said it was probably a bad wireless card. We got the new one home and the same problem happens.  It will start to connect, then lose the connection.  Or not make any connection at all.  Plus, there's a warning on the hardware scan, "Local Connection Test....warning." I doubt it's a problem with our internet connection or router, because people use iPhones and other laptops in the house and don't have any problems wtih connections. If there's not a simple solution, we're just gonna give up on the whole Lenovo laptop idea.

Well, for what it's worth....we returned the second machine for a refund.   No more Lenovo for us.  We'll shop around.

Hi. I am new here and my English is not very good so be gentle to me :D

I have a problem with XP SP3 freezing.

Normally my notebook is connected to internet via LAN cable. And everything is OK.

But when I disconnect notebook from LAN and I turn off the Local Area Connection and I connect to the internet via WiFi, Windows after couple of minutes freezes. Even a coursor is freezed and I must restart notebook by pressing turn off button for 5 seconds. Then when I turn on notebook, it starts, but after startup (1-2 minutes) Windows freezes again. This is repeated until I turn off Wireless Connection and turn on Local Area Connection.

Can you help me?

post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here

Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

@sah123? If the signal is dropping when the notebook is running on battery, the "performance" setting can be adjusted to provide a stronger signal. Windows key + X > O (Opens the Power Options) >Select (your) Power plan and > Click Change Plan Settings >Change advanced power Settings >Scroll down and Open Wireless Adapter Settings >Click Power Saving Mode >>Adjust Power settings for On battery and for Plugged in Options  (maximum performance) Reference:Settings to Improve Wireless Connectivity Section:Notebook wireless balks or won?t run when running on battery When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

Hi guys,

I have my friend's HP ProBook 4530s running W7Pro which he was having probs with cuz didn't have an antivirus running, so I installed ZoneAlarm, and found some issues that were taken care off, but after running its own HP Update software it said that needed to update the Atheros drivers, it did, but after that no more wireless since, only LAN.

Have tried to rollback and reinstall with no luck, might it be some hidden software or virus jamming it, etc... prompt help is much needed since laptop needed for work, thanks! ;-}#

A:Probs connecting to WiFi

Is your Windows 7 32bit or 64bit. Right click the wireless adapter in Device Manager. Select Properties and under the Details tab select Hardware IDs. Copy the first line into your next post. I think this is a Atheros 5007 but I want to confirm it.

Something is wrong with my laptop. I have HP Probook 4530s. I cant connect to any wifi, nothing happens when i click on a wifi. And i cant uninstall programs since program and features tab in control panel and uninstall or change program do not work when click upon.

Also before this even when i was connected to the internet through Wifi it was showing wired connection icon with a red cross. So i had to uninstall all drivers and reinstall to fix the issue. Now i cant connect to a new wifi or remove programs.

A:Issues connecting to WIfi

Given the problems with control panel and what not, you may want to try a system restore point prior to the problems. To do so, press the Windows flag key + R and in the Run open field type: rstrui.exe (press enter). Follow the prompts on screen. Restore point only affects key components of Windows OS and should not affect personal data.
