Issue with external monitor via displayport - 1680...

Q: Issue with external monitor via displayport - 1680...

Hi all, I am trying to connect 2 external monitors (Asus VW22AT) to my W550S laptop.Via the VGA connection, it works fine (for both monitors, i tried one by one), the display automatically sets to 1680x1050 resolution. My problem comes from the mini displayport which i used with DVI adapter (I also tried with VGA adapter), I can't get the 1680x1050 resolution, it recommands to use a 1920x1080 resolution but the screen is blurred. If I manually set to 1680x1050, the image doesn't use all the screen, each side is black on 3 centimeters thus the image is also blurred. Do you have any solution please?Best regards, Jean

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone

I have an eeepc 1000he with a viewsonic 22inch screen VX2255wmb. I have been using both for a while now with the dual screen setup without any problem. Since a couple days now, my external monitor won't show the optimal resolution which is 1600*1050. In the screen resolution set up page in windows 7, it used to highlight the optimal ones that respected the aspect ratio of the screen but now it just shows all of them and when I set it up at 1600*1050, I get an error message on the external monitor saying that the configuration I chose is out of range. Now the highest resolution I can use is 1400*1050.
I dual boot with windows xp and I don't have this problem with it. I didnt use any driver for both Os, just plugged the monitor in and it worked.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks in advance!

A:Laptop no longer allows 1680*1050 on external monitor

According to ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

the only Windows supported and with a video driver is XP. You could try to install in compatibility mode for XP, but it probably won't work.

My external monitor ASUS PB278Q stopped working. I switched out the DP cable which is newly purchased. I have my GPU driver updated and I'm pretty sure I've updated most other drivers on my laptop as well. I'm connecting the DP through the 433835U TP MiniDock Plus Series 3 (https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-433835U-MiniDock-Docking-Station/dp/B0085MQLMQ). For some  reason the laptop doesn't seem to detect the monitor or vice versa. The monitor says DP cable no signal. Other inputs like the power adapter and the wireless mouse I attach to the docking station do work however. I'm not sure what else I'm looking at. I haven't tried using the other inputs like the hdmi (id have to buy an adapter) or the VGA and the one other one it has since I dont have cable for those... I'm not sure how to resolve this. Please provide support, thanks.

Hey All So I'm running xR X crossfire with xQnix Qx monitors One of the qnix monitors was Setup (DisplayPort w/ Having Monitor issue?) issues Triple purchased with HDMI DisplayPort connectors along with the usual DVI connector normally these monitors only come with the D-DVI input I had a monitor with just the two DVI-only monitors setup for a while that was working fine Since installing the third monitor I'm experiencing several weird things - On boot until the Windows login screen comes up Windows there is nothing on the non-primary DVI monitor so my setup is my primary monitor is one of the two DVI monitors and then the left and right monitors is another DVI-only and the DP monitor - If the monitors go to sleep or I Having issues w/ Triple Monitor Setup (DisplayPort issue?) put the computer to sleep and wake it up any windows that were on the non-primary DVI monitor are moved over to the primary DVI monitor Windows on the DP monitor do not move in this configuration - WIthin CCC after sleep monitors off I have to restart CCC's control of the color settings for the non-primary DVI monitor I'm forgetting what the actual button says but it's the button under the Display color controls settings where you can manipulate the R G B channels - I have to use the GPU for color matching since the monitors don't have any inherent ways to change R G B levels If I only connect the two DVI monitors this is not an issue If I connect one DVI and the DP monitor after sleep wake any windows that were on the DP monitor are moved over to the primary monitor again note that this didn't happen when all monitors were connected I have tried the newest version of CCC as well as the current beta version - same behavior in both I have tried using HDMI instead of DP - same behavior Aspects of this sound similar to the issues discussed in this post http www overclock net t dealing-with-displayport-hdmi-autodetect What I don't understand is why the second DVI monitor is acting so oddly when all monitors are connected Why would there be no picture when the computer boots Any input would be appreciated Thanks

A:Having issues w/ Triple Monitor Setup (DisplayPort issue?)

I run a triple monitor setup on my desktop PC. 2 DVI and one HDMI on my GT 640. The one using HDMI goes as follows Mini HDMI on video card to normal HDMI to HDMI to DVI adapter. What I notice is regardless of which monitor is set as primary my BIOS POST screen and the initial Windows Boot screen always shows on the same monitor on one of the DVI ports. The video card determines what monitor the POST screen shows on. For me it depends on how many monitors I have plugged in and what ports they use. I have never seen it where it didn't show. The logon screen then shows on my Primary monitor. I don't use sleep or hibernate so I can't help you with that. Why you don't see your POST screen I don't know, I have seen other people report the same thing though. I don't remember if they found out why though.

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgade my Radeon 1900XT. I've recently upgraded my whole computer with a faster mobo and CPU. Here are my specs.

720W PSU
Athlon Phenom 9850 Quad Core (2.5Ghz per CPU)
4GB RAM
64bit Windows Vista Premium
1680 Widescreen Asus Monitor

With those specs in mind which card would go best with it. I use my computer mainly for gaming, as well as my work with MS office etc. Games I'll most likely be playing this year include

Starcraft 2
Diablo 3
Dragon Age
Dawn of War 2
Fear 2
GTA 4
etc

I always play my games at either the highest or 2nd highest settings. I don't want to end up getting a card that is overkill for this resolution.

Thanks for any help.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080?

I recently got a quot x external LCD monitor for my laptop It's awesome I've been using laptops only for many years and w. external laptop Issue & monitor now I'm very sorry I waited so long before getting one But on to my issue I want to only use the external monitor and keep the laptop screen turned off The problem is that when I Issue w. laptop & external monitor resume from sleep sometimes but not always the laptop display comes back on showing only the desktop wallpaper So I then have to hit the Issue w. laptop & external monitor windows key plus quot p quot for projector and select projector to get the laptop display turned off again I know how to Issue w. laptop & external monitor select the external monitor in W Basically one goes to screen resolution from the desktop right click context menu and make the proper selection under multiple monitors see screenshot below But windows seems to forget this setting sometimes and it's a mild annoyance to have to check the laptop monitor and if it's on hit the windows key plus quot p quot each time or almost each time So I'm wondering if there's some way to force windows to remember to use only the external monitor and keep the laptop monitor off until I tell it otherwise I suppose this issue is likely due to some bug in one of my drivers but I am using all the latest drivers

A:Issue w. laptop & external monitor

Why not just keep the laptop lid closed? The external monitor will display, and your laptop display will be turned off. OR, are you using the keyboard and touch pad on the laptop? If that's the case, do yourself a favor and get a full size keyboard and mouse, and plug it into the laptop, push the laptop off to the side, and keep the lid closed. Alternately, you could invest in a docking station so you don't have to plug everything in each time. That's what I do at work.

Cant output to external monitor only
Im running 7 on my laptop, and im trying to get it to output only to my external monitor when the lid is closed. I can get it to extend my desktop, but when i close the lid, it turns off the external monitor. I have set Windows 7 to do nothing when lid is closed. Is there anyone else with this problem?
I have an Dell Vostro 1500, with Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS video card, if that helps.
Also, I've tried the FN+F8 route and it does the same thing. Both screens go blank and the LCD TV (external monitor) says invalid format. Its almost like when the lid is closed it changes the resolution to a non displayable one. Happens with both FN+F8 and the lid close method. I never had this problem with XP. Please help.

So I've been using a monitor via DisplayPort through the past week with no issues. Suddenly today, I turn on my laptop and the port is no longer detecting any monitor at all. I'm willing to troubleshoot this using any links or advice provided, please help.

I've tried restarting my computer, plugging the port in/out, plugging my monitor in/out... this problem seemed to have occurred out of seemingly nowhere. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

A:Windows 8 not detecting DisplayPort Monitor

Alright, figured it out.

I'm guessing, that I probably set my external monitor to deactivate before unplugging it. The next time I plugged it in, it wouldn't activate at all for this reason.

I solved this by switching the way it got input from my laptop, going from DisplayPort to HDMI. Then I reactivated the monitor, and was able to switch back to DisplayPort.

In my personal opinion, this is truly the most idiotic thing I have dealt with so far in Windows 8. Hopefully display options such as "deactivate" don't stick around after unplugging them in the next iteration of Windows.

It happened again. Did some more research and the solution here worked:

There is a feature on newer motherboards in which they have sleep state settings outside the control of the operating system. Go into your bios and go to APM configuration. Look for ErP setting (default is usually disabled) and enable it to S4+S5 sleep state. This solved my problem, now my monitor will show a display after computer wakes up from sleep or when powered off.

A:Can't get 3rd monitor to work with Eyefinity - it has DisplayPort!

DisplayPort can technically drive up to 3 monitors, but I am fairly certain that you cannot easily mix it's output with another digital output unless the video chipset can allow it (and this would be high-end, because DVI and HDMI are based on older technology and would require decent amounts of horsepower that a single GPU isn't necessarily going to be designed for). Nvidia makes some laptop video chips that allow splitting the signal between VGA and a DisplayPort port, but that's analog and digital, so it's a lot easier on the chipset than pushing 2 digital outputs at the same time (with content protection, scanning, etc. required by those interfaces).

The latest DisplayPort spec allows daisy-chaining of multiple DisplayPort displays on the same DisplayPort port from a video source, but to do so you need to purchase the requisite cabling or adapters to achieve multimon on the DisplayPort port and all devices along a DisplayPort multimon daisy-chain must be DisplayPort 1.2 spec or higher devices.

There are adapters that you can purchase that can take a DisplayPort signal and output it to multiple DVI endpoints (which could then be downgraded to VGA with an adapter on the DVI port), but you generally need to be driving the same monitors at each endpoint too which can be a pain.

Hi all,

In a few weeks (I can't wait! ) I will replace my laptop with the Surface Pro.

Right now, though, I have my laptop connected to two monitors: One via VGA and other via DVI. I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64, so this all works great.

So the big question is whether it is possible to have multi-monitor support via the one-and-only DisplayPort that is on the Surface Pro? If so, what--if any--additional hardware would I need?

When I'm docked at home and using my Surface Pro as laptop, I really need to keep the functionality of using both external monitors (one is 31" and the other 29"). I would really hate to go back to only being able to use one.

If you can provide any insight, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

A:Multiple Monitor Support Possible via DisplayPort?

http://www.displayport.org/faq/

there are 2 options:

1) DisplayPort v1.1a hubs available today that allow you to connect multiple monitors to a single DisplayPort connector. Various output configurations are available for these hubs including DisplayPort, DVI, and HDMI.

2) you need DisplayPort monitors that support daisychaining. DisplayPort v1.2, supports monitor daisy chaining.
DisplayPort v1.1a displays are fully compatible with DisplayPort v1.2 PCs and graphics cards. A DisplayPort v1.1a display can be the last display in a DP v1.2 chain.
Here’s an example:
A PC with one DP connector is driving two monitors via daisy chaining. The 1st monitor is a DP v1.2 monitor with input and output connectors. The 2nd monitor is a DP v1.1a monitor. DP v1.2 PC—> DP v1.2 monitor with in & out connectors—->DP v.1.1a monitor.

Hi everybody!
I've recently got two monitors, but the secondary monitor doesn't show anything. I have a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with 2 Displayports and 1 DVI. The Monitor is a Samsung S22D300 (both of them).
When I connect the monitor through the DVI connector it works fine (with both monitors) but not with the Displayport (none of them). What can I do?!

I have tried already to unplug and plug again. install newest drivers from Nvidia... AHHHHHH!!! help!

One day I was using the laptop surfing the net normally, everything was fine and suddenly the display gone wrong...(pic below). I tried using an external monitor and still the same, so I am quite sure that my monitor is fine and it's probably a display card problem?
I tried to update my display card driver and no luck, so I decided to use the recovery CD to restore the system, and no luck again.

Here is a screenshot after the system restore...is there a way to repair this without taking it to a service centre??
thanks

A:Tecra S1 - Display issue, even on external monitor

Hi borist,

It?s really great that you could post a picture of your problem. Thank you!
Furthermore you tried already a lot of like recovery installation and an external monitor.

Unfortunately it seems to be a hardware malfunction of graphic card. :(

So that means you have to exchange the mainboard because the graphic card is fixed on it. Mainboard is pretty expensive part and Tecra S1 is old notebook so maybe you can get a second hand mainboard or notebook on eBay and exchange it yourself.

Good luck! :)

Hello!
I recently purchased an external monitor (BenQ EW2740L) for use with a PS4 console, however I thought I would try to connect it to my Laptop (ASUS N550JV - Running windows 8). I was trying to connect the two with a HDMI cable as my laptop doesn't have ports to fit the supplied D-Sub cable. Long story short, My computer detected and installed the monitor but im presented with a black screen and the monitor gives the message "No Cable connected". I've tried the Fn + F8 option of projecting to a second screen however no luck.
Also my Computer and the monitor both have a native contrast of 1920x1080 if that helps.

What am I doing wrong?

My laptop is a Compaq Presario F504EA. I have had an external 19" LCD Monitor running sometimes in parallel and sometimes independantly with the laptop. It has its own Power supply, and is only connected to the laptop through a VGA cable.

I was wondering if this could cause the laptop to extremely overheat. With this, the laptop would be un touchable on the bottom side due to extreme heat.

I had also recently upgraded my ram from 1 to 2GB. Would this of had an effect on the heat aswell ?

It is currently in repair due to my keyboard being intermittent along with my wireless; i believe the heat as melted joints or something on the motherboard.

Thanks
Oliver

A:External Monitor, extreme heat issue

when was the last time you spray dusted the laptop, that should help the heat issue. but adding more ram should not cause any more than normal heat, the extra monitor might cause more heat cause of the extra power going through the video card, but it should not make it untouchable.

i would try to spray dust the vents and also check to make sure all the fans are working.

HI;

I have 2 monitors on my Dell Studio XPS with a Radion 5700 series card. I'm doing more video editing now and I would like to add a 3rd monitor.

I'm finding out there are not that many Display Port monitors to choose from.

I know that the Apple monitors are DisplayPort and they are nice screens, but they are very $$$.

Can you suggest anything under $500 with a DisplayPort in the 23" to 27" size range?

Thanks Much

Jamie

A:BSOD while streaming on DisplayPort attached monitor?

Well it's a bit odd that I would come across this info now after a month and a half but - apparently there is an issue with the 20 pin on displayport cables. The infamous pin 20 issue.
To be fully compliant a displayport cable must not have pin 20 wired through.
The monitor is feeding power down pin 20, and the video card is feeding power out as well and the some video cards don't like it, (the power feed is to provide power to active converters, DP to VGA, HDMI etc.)

This thread is pretty close to mine:
How a Bad DisplayPort Cable Can Ruin Ruin Your Day
For about 2 months I've been struggling with a BSoD error related to atikmpag.sys on my Windows 7, core i7, 2x 5870 Crossfire system.

First, I assumed it was a driver issue. At the time I think the 12.1 Catalyst drivers had just been released. So, I rolled back to 11.10 or so. BSoDs continue anywhere from every couple of days to as often as every couple hours.I formatted my system partition and reinstalled Windows to try to fix.

Guess what? BSoDs continue!

Finally, after all of this, I decide on replacing the DisplayPort cable as the last possible point of failure. I should have mentioned that I'm running 1 native DisplayPort and 2 DVI ports. I replaced it with one from Accell off Newegg and it's been over a month without any further BSoDs. I've heard of plenty of issues out there with DisplayPort adapters, but never thought I'd have an issue with a straight DisplayPort cable distributed with a Dell monitor. Having a Windows BSoD from a bad display cable was definitely an eye-opener for me.

Hello,
I got this laptop recently and ran into an issue when connecting to external displays, in all games I am unable to set my video settings to 60Hz when choosing to project my display to the external screen only. If I duplicate the screen then I have no issue, but I want to be able to close the laptop lid and have 60Hz as an option, otherwise everything shows up as 59Hz which causes stuttering and flickering. The weird thing is that in Windows my refresh rate shows up as 60Hz at 1920x1080 but when launching any game 59Hz is the highest I can go to when set to display as "second screen only" in Windows 10. Please let me know what I could to fix this, and if it is not clear let me know.

Often when I initially turn my computer on I get the message from the latest AMD driver:
"The System has detected a problem with the connection between your computer and the DisplayPort display that will prevent you from using the highest resolutions and/or refresh rates." and my 4k monitor would be in 30 hz not 60hz. To fix this problem I either reset my computer or reset the monitor and most of the time it will then go to 60hz. I have already tried a new displayport cable, fresh installed the video drivers and face the same problem. Can anyone help please?

Hey, I had the same problem and I just solved mine, so hopefully it will help yours too.

All I did was unplugged the power cable for 5-10 seconds. After I did that Windows prompted me that "You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect."

Once I restarted everything was fixed. Hope it helps! Good luck to you!

I am trying to connect the HDMI port on my nVidia GeForce GT 640 video card to the DisplayPort input on my HP Compaq L2206tm monitor. This is the reverse of what is expected by cable fabricators who have lots of cables and adapters for the opposite configuration, i.e., DP on the videocard and HDMI input on the monitor. There seems to be a uni-directional vs bi-directional issue involved with DP, but I don't quite understand it. Anyway, the uni-directional choices I am seeing are in the wrong direction. Try using a different connection--hdmi would be best if the laptop has that. You can use a hdmi to dvi cable--same technology and those work. Those can be bought for less than $10.

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop running Windows 10. I have just purchased a Dell U2515H monitor which I am waiting for delivery for as we speak. I believe the monitor has quiet a few inputs however I am not 100% sure which lead to get to connect them both and which port I use on the Dell Laptop. Looking on the left hand side of my laptop there is a port with a lightning sign next to it, is that called Thunderbolt? and is that my monitor/display port? and what lead do I need? it looks like some sort of micro socket!

I have an Acer LCD monitor, and when I shut my computer down last night, the resolution was 1680 x 1050. When I turned my computer on, the resolution got bumped way down, to 960 x 720. At that moment, I couldn't remember my resolution, so I put it to 1600 x 1200, and it's not right. Everything is really small, and I can hardly read anything. I remembered my resolution, 1680 x 1050, but when I went to change it, it's no longer in the list, the list had changed, it doesn't go up past 1600 x 1200, and if I knock it down even one setting (which would be 1440 x 900), the display looks even worse.

I have noticed that Windows identifies my monitor as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor", and it can't find anything else about it, it can't determine the manufacturer, the model number, nothing. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my monitor, but it still says it's a Non-PnP monitor.

My graphics card (if I've done this right) is Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series, and I use Home Premium 64bit.

(The screenshots are what my menu used to look like, and what it looks like now.)

Hello everyone,
I've just purchased a Samsung 215TW widescreen monitor and realized that my current graphics card (nVidia 5200 chipset, AGP (only AGP and PCI available on my system)) cannot do the monitor's native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Been doing research and shopping at computer stores but difficult to get exact confirmation about what the various cards/chipsets can do as far as resolution. I'm on a budget and don't want to buy one of the pricey high end graphics card. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me their comments on:

1. Can nVidia GeForce 6200 or 6200A chipset do 1680 x 1050?
2. Can ATI Radeon 9250 chipset do 1680 x 1050?
3. Any recommendations for this resolution for someone on a budget??

I'm looking for it since so many time in google but I didn't find a solution.

LCD is an HP w2207h with 1 HDMI and 1 VGA, im currently using VGA with a dvi->VGA dongle. Graphics card is ATi 3870 with 2 x DVi, i read something about the dongle that it isn?t going to work. So i brought a cable brand Lindy Gold Premium 2mtr.

Native resolution is 1680*[email protected]

I can?t do more than 1440*900 and then the screen is blurry. If i set it to 1680*[email protected] the LCD goes no signal. I even tried 1920*1xxx but it was a very small picture and flickering even more.

Im using the latest ATi CCC and Vista Home Premium x64.
Other specs.
MB: Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4
CPU: i7 920
RAM: OCZ 3x2GB
HDD: 2 x 250Gb RAID0

Is there something in CCC i have to set so i can use HDMI.

Sounds like the monitor does not like the Video card. Does your mobo have integrated graphics? There should be another VGA plug up higher. Plug into that and see if the same problem occur.

Hi
I'm having this issue on a Acer aspire 1680: a couple of days ago it started showing a messed up screen for no apparent reason:here's a screenshot
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/200/screenshotsr.jpg
I'm sure that it isn't an LCD trouble because plugging the laptop to an external screen via VGA doesn't change a thing and, as you can see, taking a snapshot shows those blocks too.
Swinging the lcd open and closed doesn't affect the matter; but I noticed that pushing gently the keyboard and touchpad area makes those artifacts move around and sometimes disappear as well; so I disassembled the whole laptop, cleared all the dust, undone and re-done all the connections but with no luck!
What could I try next?

A:Acer Aspire 1680: messed up LCD

Yikes! "so I disassembled the whole laptop, cleared all the dust, undone and re-done all the connections but with no luck!"... I hope you have experience with repairing laptops

You could compound the troubles 1000 fold by doing this without experience.

Sounds like the video driver is corrupted, but if you have laptop skills you might have tried updating the video driver already. In that case, the motherboard might be at fault

Ok some specifics:
ACER AL2016W. NO DVI, Just VGA
Aopen AK77 MB
AMD 2000+ Thoroughbred
767 effective RAM
nVidia G force 440 on AGP1
Board is 4x-8x AGP capable
Power supply 350Watt (guesstimate) Got a larger one in the wings if necessary.
Now what I need:
Just to be able to run this thing at "native" resolution in VGA mode.
Currently running 1600x900......No real gaming intended so cheap, old whatever card will do but I'm having a real hard time finding a card that lists this resolution in ANALOG (VGA) mode........ Acer and Samsung must have sold thousands of these monitors, yet the video support isn't there apparently....

This has probably been asked a millon times so apologies ahead of time...

Check out the cards at Newegg, Zipzoomfly, Outpost, and Directron. They will be AGP 8X cards, and you will find maximum resolution output in the specifications. When they don't list it, it is not there.

I just bought a new 22" LG Widescreen LCD that has a preferred resolution of 1680 x 1050. My integrated GeForce 7150M Graphics card for my laptop only shows support for up to 1600 x 1024 and so everything looks skewed as this is not one of the listed resolutions for my LCD.

I have already tried downloading and installing drivers(after uninstalling existing ones) from Nvidia, HP and LG and none of them seem to change this fact. I know(from Nvidia's web site) that this graphics card can handle other resolutions higher than this that are also not listed on my Display Adapters "List All Modes..." section.

I have a 64-bit vista operating system as well. This has been driving me crazy and i hope someone can help out... please. Otherwise i'll have to return the LCD and my dreams of having a big LCD monitor for my laptop will be forever lost!

A:Need 1680 x 1050 Resolution on GeForce 7150M

Howdy armanjava,

When you try to change your display attributes is the software recognizing the model of your monitor, or is it just seeing 'generic'?

The LG drivers do not look like they take model numbers into account, but they may be meant to read them through PnP channels. It sounds like this isn't happening.

However, I tried to do that with Windows 7-it won't let me drag Media Player over to the second monitor. I can drag other applications to the second Window (Word, Browsers), but not any media program. Even tried another media player application.

Not sure what to do-how can I get this to work? I want to be able to watch TV/Movies on my second monitor.

A:Dual Monitor Issue-Can't drag MedPlay to Second Monitor

Actually update. I have a hard time dragging anything to my second display. I never had trouble dragging things to my second monitor before. When I get to the right edge of my main display, the window dragging stops..I can't get it to the second monitor. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome!

Try updating your card drivers. Go into Device Manager and right-click on your display adapter.

I suspect that the cards are too old, though. We will see.

I have an HP monitor HP w 2207 that comes with a VGA cord. It worked great with my windows 7 laptop but
now that I have a new windows 10 that does not come with only usb connections I bought an adapter VGA
to USB and connected the monitor to a USB 3 port.

The monitor comes on for a second and says Monitor Going to Sleep and then the screen turns black.

The VGA adapter said I didn't have to install any drivers so I don't know what to do now. Help!

A:1680 X 1050 not a valid mode for chip set/graphics controller

you could try going to display properties and changing the color 16 bit

I would also try 1600 x 1024

I have the dual monitor thing working and everything. I have my laptop and attached it using HDMI to a HDTV. The problem is that i cant get my desktop to my laptop. The HDMI cable, when plugged into my laptop makes the TV display the desktop automatically. Because of this, when i enable the dual screen, it extends my desktop to my laptop screen, and uses my tv for the main monitor. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I?m planning of buying a new 22 monitor either with resolution 1900*1200 or 1680*1050
But how do I know that the card supports those particular resolutions
They are not listed when I look in the drop list that says show them all in windows 7,desktop manager
Here`s a link to the specs of the card ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Graphics Cards- ASUS EAH4350 SILENT/DI/512MD2

Thanks in advance

A:ASUA EAH 4350 1 gb manages resolution 1900'1200 or 1680*1050

Tobber61, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Yes the card supports those resolutions and higher. From the card's specs,

Quote:
D-Sub Max Resolution 2048 x 1536
DVI Max Resolution 2560 x 1600

The reason they aren't showing in the list is likely due to your current monitor not supporting them.

I have a Dell Latitude e6410 connected to a PR03x docking station.  I recently got a U2713HM monitor and connected to the docking station via the DVI port.  The cable used is a dual link DVI-D cable (24 pin).  The maximum resolution that Windows 7 allows 1680 x 1050 "recommend".  Plug in a VGA cable is I get over 1920 x 1080 but less then the 2560 x 1440.  I've already download the latest drivers from the laptop and monitor. no luck.
Any suggestions?

A:U2713HM + Latitude e6410 + PR03X = maximum resolution 1680 x 1050 on Windows 7

Hi Ted4Wong,
You can definitely get the 2560x1440 resolution on the Dell U2713HM using your Dell Latitude e6410. But, for that you would have to connect your monitor to the laptop directly through the Display Port. And, for that you would need a Display Port cable as well. If you do not have one, then you would have to purchase from any retailer nearby. A Display port and its cable looks as follows:

The display port on your laptop is located on the back side of your laptop just like the picture above. Your Latitude laptop e6410 supports a maximum resolution of 2560x1600 @60Hz refresh rate. However, the Dell monitor U2713HM supports a maximum resolution of 2560x1440 @60Hz ; a little less than that of your laptop, but its the exact resolution you desired for. Below is a screenshot from the monitor's manual stating the same for your reference. Also you can see where the Display Port is on your monitor. (Refer to label 3 below in the picture)

Below are the resolution details of the monitor

If you want the manual of the monitor then you can copy and paste the link below in your browser to open it :
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_electronics/esuprt_Display/dell-u2713hm_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf
Make sure you have Adobe Reader installed on the computer as it is in pdf file format.
Hope this helps.

A:Switch Primary Monitor from Laptop to External-Without Looking at the Primary Monitor

Hi nomonitor, and welcome to TSG

Check your user manual for the laptop to see if has has a special key or a Function key that lets you toggle between the internal display and external monitor.

I am using a Gateway NX560XL with XP Media Center Edition. When I extend the desktop to the secondary monitor (projector or the screen for my desktop) the only thing coming through the monitor is the screen saver. This featured worked previously, but has not since Gateway replaced the hard drive. I downloaded and installed new drivers, bit to no avail.

How can I resolve this?
