I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

You could try sharing the file through a service like OneDrive. Upload the document and then share a link to download it.

I am facing the following interesting situation I have an excel file with many columns One column contains line numbers for example Code Source Line Number if this getValue for i i lt value i while true I want to set up hyperlinks such that when the user clicks on one of the cells in the Line Number column a batch program is called with the line number as its command line argument so that the source file is opened at the specific line pass it hyperlinks arguments to possible files? to .cmd local to Is number I was able to Is it possible to pass arguments to local hyperlinks to .cmd files? set up a hyperlink without any Is it possible to pass arguments to local hyperlinks to .cmd files? command line arguments for one cell but then I had to set the value explicitly in the batch file as follows - Code cd quot dp quot notepad sourcefile txt -n So this batch file opens the quot sourcefile txt quot at line number in the Notepad editor However it's not practical to write a separate batch file for every such line number in the excel sheet So I am wondering if it is possible to somehow pass the line number as an argument to the batch program

A:Is it possible to pass arguments to local hyperlinks to .cmd files?

You can pass a variable to a bath file. Change the line to read

Whenever I send and receive emails that have ?word? documents attached, the documents often get corrupted in transmission. This shows itself as spaces between words disappearing. Only a few each time. For example a recent 20 000 + word document I?ve been working on, had about 30 ? 40 spaces lost. Any ideas what the issue could be?

I have a large project that involves numerous word files all involving semi-complex formatting (lots of tables of all shapes and sizes, tables within tables etc).

I have completed 3/4 of the work and it is perfect on my computer. When I send it to my client, however, she says when she opens the files they are warped. I have switched on an old computer and downloaded them onto that too and they are also coming out warped on that.

When I go into my "sent box" in my email though I can click on the files I sent and view them online. They are perfect when I do this so I don't know why they are warping between leaving my email account and getting to my client's.

Can anyone help?

I like to write my correspondence in Word rather than Outlook because I then have an easier to read and back up record in My Documents. With Word 2003 I could do that easily by using the File/Send command. This created an e-mail which could be sent. Can anyone tell me if the feature still exists in Word 2007? When I look at the File/Send command in Word 2007 it seems to only send e-mails via attachments. For simple documents these are less convenient for the reader.

A:Solved: File/Send in Word 2007

You can try this:

Right-click the Quick Access Toolbar and choose More Commands

(if you dont know what the Quick Access toolbar looks like here is a link :

Set Choose commands from: to All Commands.

In the list of commands, scroll down to "Send to Mail Recipient".

Click on Send to Mail Recipient, then click Add.

Click OK at the bottom.

Now you can use that tool to toggle on/off email headers for sending the
current window's contents as an email.

Running Word 2003 (SP2) under XP-SP2, the Send to option behaves oddly: the list displayed under "File – Sent to" is different than the one located in Document and Settings - < User Name > - SendTo. The one I want to use is the latter.

I completely reinstalled Word 2003 from scratch and ended up with the same problem. On another computer, where the environment is the same, everything works fine.

Is there a registry option I could change?

Hello everyone,

Can somebody tell me how to align the left and right column on this word doc?

A:Word 2010 : How to perfectly align lines of two separeted zones? cf(attached file)

Hi Wha, welcome to TSG.

You have the right idea by putting all of the information into a table, but some of your table rows contain multiple paragraphs. So, for example, Autocall Redemption Amount, Redemption Amount, and Call Asian SX5E are all in the same row. Because you're using different styles on the left and the right, you can't control it perfectly with spacing. I would advise making each of those their own row and then you can ensure that the text lines up. Hope that helps.

I need to 'file' 'send link or page by email' feature as well as mail that will open a hyperlink while reading an article I wish to respond to.
I have used Windows Essentials for years for this.
I am confused about my choices and how to implement them. I do not have Outlook.
If I use the Win 8 Mail do I go to default programs and click on default programs>associate a file type and click on send mail to >change settings and choose mail?
I am using WLM but it is part of Win Essentials which is causing trouble with my pc and I think is being phased out.
If I use Thunderbird, must I be using Firefox as the browser or can I still use MSIE 10?
To satisfy the two needs I listed in the beginning, what is my best choice and how do I implement it.

A:Win 8 send link as email and open hyperlinks

I have been using Windows Live Mail in both Windows 7 & Windows 8 and never have any problem so I am sure what kind of problem you have. I also use Firefox (latest version 18.02) and unfortunately, the right click context menu option to send mail for link/page has been taken out since version 16. However, with firefox, you can install an add-on called "Email This" and when you right click on the link or page, it will have an option "Email This" and allow you to select the default email such as Gmail, Yahoo mail or Mail client installed in Windows.

Hope this helps.

I have WinXP, Home Edition, and my ISP is JUNO. All of a sudden--things having gone well for years--I can't click on a "Contact Us" button and bring up my email. Instead, I get about 62 small windows with the message that the default mail client is not properly installed and then have to get rid of them all. What might I have unwittingly done to uninstall the default mail client? What IS that, anyway? I have a hunch that uninstalling and reinstalling JUNO might fix the problem, but I still would like to know what could cause it so I won't do it again.

tl;dr - i haz corrupts wut do now?

I'm not sure if the windows update I did last night was the culprit, but I've been working on my computer for about 12 hours (I'm not super computer savvy so it took a lot of iphone Google skills) and I finally got my laptop from moving dead slow, to BSOD, back to moving dead slow, to finally functioning mostly normally again. I've done full scans of my computer with Spybot (free) Malwarebytes (free) and Panda Antivirus (free) and came up pretty clean. I ran sfc /scannow and came up with some files that were corrupted and couldn't be automatically fixed. Since I'm assuming these files are really important, I want to consult you guys here before I try anything. Anyway here is the file. Thanks in advanced!

By the way I searched the forums for similar problems and while I did find a few, I'm not sure what to do

Okay, here's what I want to do. I want to be able to have an entry in my "Send To" submenu to move (not copy) whatever files I have selected to "C:\Hold"

With my very limited knowledge of batch files, I made a simple .cmd file that I put in the Send To folder with the following line:

move %1 C:\Hold

It works, kinda. However, it doesn't move all of the selected files to C:\Hold. It only sends the file I actually right-click on to bring up the menu. I know this must be a simple fix, but I'm at a loss on it.

When he clicks the hyperlink link Adobe Reader 7.0 opens for a second but doesn't display the file and then closes down.

The PDF file is on a network location and he can open it fine if he just browses to the file and double clicks.

I have tried changing the hyperlink path to \\servername\share\file.pdf and also to the drive letter with no effect

The user has also added hyperlinks to .doc files in the same network location and these work fine. The PDF is not open elsewhere.

The strange thing is the user says it worked the first time he tried it but not subsequently, he has also tried recreating the hyperlink but this doesn't work either.

The “main feature” is hyperlinking: authors, titles, articles, universities/research institutions, bibliographies, and maybe even a glossary “for instant access” to said information. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly apprecaited also idea how long it would take me?

Hi Guyz,

having major problems with Word 2000.
Im creating lists, that link to other documents within them.
These have all been uploaded onto my host server. However When you link to the other documents from the initial list from within the ie browser window the linked file opens in the same window.
What i really want to do is have these docs open in a new browser window.
Since this is 2000 and not 2003 There is no Target frame button within the hyperlink settings.
I have though tried to use the tools menu under the view tab and show field codes. then added \t "_blank"
To the end of the hyperlink code.
Also tried added target="_blank" at the end of the hyperlink code aswell.
Both made no difference, docs still open in same window as original list.

Any ideas?

Okay. So is your main document being saved as a DOC file or as HTML?

I was just wondering if anyone might happen to know as why Microsoft Word is changing my hyperlinks to where it is saying Hyperlink and then the mailto information instead of just displaying it as a link like it should be.

I am using Office 2003 Professional for the most part with the exception of Outlook. When it comes to Outlook I am using 2007.

If anyone might happen to have any idea as to why that is occuring and as to how I can fix it permanently, then I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know because at the moment I am totally stumped as to what it could be.

Hi rdonovan,
Sounds like Word is displaying the field codes. I don't know whether it's the same in Office 2003, but in Word 2002, you'd go to Tools/Options and select the View tab. Under "Show", deselect the Field Codes checkbox and click OK. Hope that helps.

I have a large document in Word 2003. It contains over 100 hyperlinks to other docs in my computer and to web sites. When I moved the file to a new computer, all of the hyperlinks became inaccurate and no longer link correctly. The error is uniform throughout the document, but it is too much work to go into each hyperlink and edit them individually. Does anyone know a way to do a "global edit", i.e. change the path for all the existing links to eliminate the erroneous part and keep the correct part?

I am the system administrator. I ran Auslogics free registry cleaner about a week ago. From what I've read, this is a registry error. But the instructions posted there do not work and are inconsistent with that given in a link in those instructions.

Can this be fixed and how? Thanks!

So I have had this problem for a while and have just tried to ignore it...but thats not really an option anymore. I know it's a very simple fix, I just dont have a clue how to do it.

I have a Toshiba netbook running windows vista. I have Microsoft Office 2007.

The problem is this. I have a Word document from a professor, or whomever, with hyperlinks. When I do CTRL + click on them I get this error message:
"This operation has been canceled due to ristrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

This is my personal netbook. I use McAfee and know that sometimes it can just be a matter of checking or unchecking an option here. But like I said, I haven't a clue about how to fix it.

Please and thank you for your help!

Is there a way to make Word stop treating text beginning with "http" or "www" as a link? The only way I have found is to link-by-link right click on the text, select “edit hyperlink” and then check remove link. This is a real pain- is there a default I can set to make Word stop this nonsense? I am not creating documents for publication on the web, I am writing papers MLA-style and the hyperlink formatting screws up my bibliographies.

The default behavior in Word 2003 is to require ctrl+click to prevent you from accidentally going to links when you don't mean to, but you can disable it:

Click Tools.
Select Options.
In the Options dialog box, select the Edit tab.
Uncheck Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink.
Click OK.

I am still using Word 2003 (believe it or not).

Recently I installed it on a new virtual machine (VM).

On the original VM the table of contents (i.e. in Word's menu: Insert --> Reference --> Index and Tables --> Table of Contents) the TOC entries produced worked as hyperlinks. That is, when the reader clicked on one of them, Word jumped to that page number and section.

In the new VM, the TOC's don't function as hyperlinks. When the mouse goes over one of the entries, a message appears under the cursor "Current document, CTRL+click to follow link". Either just clicking or clicking while holding down the ctrl key does nothing.

Any ideas of what setting may be wrong?

I am using the Print Layout to create my documents, and when I create a hyperlink, the hyperlink shows up in underlined blue, but it won't work. It will work if I view the document in Reading Layout, but that doesn't do me any good, since that layout does'nt look anything like the Print Layout. Can anyone make any suggestions?

A:Solved: Word 2003 - Hyperlinks don't work in Print Layout

It works.
It's just that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, decided to make us Ctrl+Click for a hyperlink.

Otherwise, you can change the setting on your PC to NOT require the Ctrl key.
Tools-Options-Edit tab. Second checkbox on the right...

And don't you just LOVE that Reading Layout feature?

I have twenty-four pages in Microsoft Word 2000 format, each page a separate file. These pages have text boxes with text, text boxes with photos, some horizontal and some vertical pictures.

They were all created by my father-in-law (85 years young and doing well to do what he has done) who doesn't understand how to create a miltipage document for his Eighth Airforce Historical Society newsletter.

Now I must stitch these pages together into a single MSWord 2000 file so I can print 225 copies of this 24-page document in my duplexing printer (prints front and back in one operation).

Does anyone know how to join these? I'm under the gun on this and have to get his chestnuts out of the fire within two days or his newsletter will be late.

I have never managed to do this:
I have a folder, containing subfolders. They have many text files in them. Now: I need to search these text files to find the one which has a specific word or phrase in it. What I do is to hit Ctrl+f to open the search left pane. Then I click 'All files and folders', type the extention of the files I'm searching in (example: .php) and type the word(s) I'm looking for in 'a word or phrase in the file'. Searching within that folder starts. BUT IT NEVER RETURNS A THING, EVER!

Am I doing it wrong? how on earth can I do this?

I have a laptop with Windows 8 and Word 2003 installed.
When I double-click on a .doc file in File Explorer, a warning window comes up that asks whether or not I will allow a program to make changes to my computer. When I click yes, Word 2003 opens, but the file does not open. There is a warning message that says that there was a problem sending the command to the program.
If I then click file-open, I can go to the file that I was trying to open from File Explorer, and the file will open normally.
How can I fix things so that I can open .doc files from File Explorer?

A:.doc files will not open in Word 2003 from File Explorer

Verify that the file association for .doc uses Word as default.

A:local printer attached to this computer is greyed out

Hello jefry68 and welcome to TSG Forums...

It would be helpful if you could provide a bit more detail. Where are you looking when you say the printer is greyed out?

In the Control Panel/Printers and FAX's is the best place to look. If you will double -click that icon, you will see the status of any printer your computer has access to. This is also the place you can add a printer. If you could take a screen shot of the window and post it in a reply, that may also be informative.

This is my first post and I hope I am in the right place. Tried to find previous ref but couldn't find anything. Any MS word 2007 open file will not save because it has gone to temp file name and original file deleted. Can recover by using 'save as' and changing name back to correct name but this has to happen every time and is very time consuming. Tried repair but nothing was wrong. I think it started after uploading latest drivers from AVG but don't see connection. It happens immediately a file is opened.

With the setting as shown on the attached screen shot, does the PC send updates to other PCs directly through router without passing through internet, i.e. does this setting save internet data volume?

A:Send updates to PCs on my local network

Yes, if you keep this setting enabled your computers will act as a update cache for your other Windows 10 devices and it will reduce internet usage.

my computer is running Windows 7 Professional.

I have added and installed a shared printer to this computer. The printer is connected to an other computer that is running Windows XP, and the printer is shared.

Everything seems ok. The installation completed without difficulties.
When I am trying to print a test-page, the document shows up in the printer queue for about 30 seconds, saying that the document is being sent to the printer, then it disappears.
Still after 10 minutes nothing has been printed. Nothing happens.

I was almost certain that the problem was the firewall, but I turned off the firewall on both computers and it still doesn't work.

Last year I tried this out with two computers both running XP, and it worked out perfectly.

Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

A:Can't print through local network to printer attached to XP computer.

Hi again,

I found a solution to the problem myself :-)

It turned out to be a double issue.
One of the problems WAS the firewall. I did in the beginning of my troubleshooting try to turn off the firewall, and it didn't work. But that was because there was an other problem as well. I didn't think it was a double problem at that point. So I assumed the firewall wasn't the problem.
I then realised there was only a one way connection between the computers, since the Win 7 pc could access to the XP computer, but the XP computer couldn't get access to the Win 7 computer. I figured out that it was the firewall that caused this issue. Now I could send printing jobs to the queue on the XP computer, but it disappeared from the queue after some seconds and the printer didn't print anything.
The windows troubleshooting on the Win 7 computer couldn't find any problems with the printer connection. Then I downloaded HP's own troubleshooting application from the internet, and it found that it was a driver issue.
Then I did some googling and found a patch for many HP printers for Win 7 x64 (Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 ... - HP Support Forum). After applying this patch everything works like a charm.

To summerize:
The firewall was one problem.
And the other problem was that the printer drivers from Windows Update didn't work on Windows 7 x64 (it shouldn't be a problem with the 32 bit version of windows 7).

I have a really strange problem here. Running MS Word 2003 on Server 2003. Approx 70 users and 5 admins.

Only a few user accounts and 1 admin account, Word will save the file to a 8 random alphanumeric character file in the same directory the file is being saved too.

The file itself seems to be a perfect duplicate of the original file and is most certainly not a temp file. I have checked Technet (no 2003 forums anymore) and searched the web, but nobody else seems to have had this problem.

Any ideas? Anybody else ever even heard of this behavior?

A:Strange file names being saved by Word 2003 (not temp files)

I do think these are temp files, they are 'rests' of the backups that are made on a timed interval.
I happens that on network drives they are not always removed, why? I don't know.
It doesn't happen on local drives.
One of Microsoft's 'hidden features'?

When I try to send a link it will not send. I am using the "send" under file. I believe it is programmed wrong. It goes to people pc .com which I do not have. OR it tries to use POP3 which I have also deleted since I do not want dial up . How do I reprogram it so it will work properly so I can send links and or pages.
Thank you

A:Please help SEND (under file) for link/pages not able to send

Hi norvinclevelad

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums.

Did you at some previous time use PeoplePC and a dial-up connection? You may just need to visit "Internet Options" in your Control Panel & check the settings under the "Connection" and "Programs" tabs.

Should that not work, you could also try a repair of IE --- which has a fair promise of restoring the default behaviors.

Best of luck

How does one make a hyperlink in InDesign to a FILE rather than to a URL?
I want to make a PDF file for an e-book, full of links to other files on the CD, and be able to update the file in InDesign. I could make the hyperlinks in Acrobat, but there are hundreds of links and it would be a waste of time to redo them each time there is a change in the file.
It would seem a rather ordinary function (heck, even WORD can do it), which leads me to suspect that the manual writers or menu-makers just hid the solution somewhere out of view.

I appreciate any help.

HI Folks,
Here's what's happening; I've created a document in MS Word and saved two versions - One as a regular MS Word document and the other a PDF file. The hyperlinks I installed on the document work fine in the regular MS Word document, but in the saved PDF version, they do not work. The cursor stays as an arrow and does does change when placed over what should be the hyperlink. Can anybody tell me what's wrong?

A:Hyperlinks do not work in pdf file.

sometimes it's the matter of your pdf reader. some old or simple version pdf reader can't open hyperlink, update your pdf reader then try again.

I've got an excel file which is used for checking Audio files. I'm using the hyperlink function to link to a cell which contains the directory path of the file I want to check.

The hyperlink cell reads:

The excel files sits outside the folder containing the audio, so the B4 reads:

Audio Folder\Audio_file01.wav

So I click on "LINK" and Excel looks in B4, sees the path to the audio, then the audio plays.

This works fine on a PC, but when I move the excel to a Mac, nothing happens. No audio, no error message.

Any ideas anyone?
