Dell XPS 8000 graphics card upgrade

Q: Dell XPS 8000 graphics card upgrade

Hi all,
just bought a XPS8000 and will be using for amateur AVCHD video editing. So, I feel the Nvidia GTS240 may fall a little short.
What's the best bet...sould I install a 2gb, and if so which is suitable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Having some trouble putting a PCI Express graphics card into an 8000 Elite CMT.  It's a Radeon HD7950 and I've already noticed a couple of issues: 1) The Power supply isn't large enough. I've read a few issues where the PSU in 8000 CMT's has a different chassis size to standard PSU's. 2) The motherboard doesn't have the required 6-pin PCI Express power connectors. I guess upgrading the PSU to one that has the requried power and has seperate PCI Express power connectors will solve the issue, can anyone confirm that this can be done with an 8000 CMT? ThanksGareth

OK... So I have a friend who is looking to upgrade his graphics card.

He has a Dell E520.

The Mobo is - Dell 0wg864 - This is the Intel p965/g965 chipset.

I have seen varying results on the PCI slots. but i think he is ok.

Does anyone see a problem upgrading to an HD4850/4870 with this board?

Hey there, I'm currently running a crappy 256MB GeForce 8600 GT, it runs pretty well but it's 3 years, almost 4 years old, and new games aren't running as fresh as I'd like..

I'm considering upgrading to a new Palit GTS 450 SONIC OC 1024MB card

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it will actually be able to run on the stock rig

Can someone show me a diagram of how to attach a 6 pin connector to wherever it goes so I can see if it will all go smooth before I purchase it?

4GB Ram, 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo already upgraded, so please don't say bottleneck is imminent!

I have a Dell Dimension E310 computer
It has a Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz

I would like to upgrade the graphics card to support the game Portal and the upcoming Spore.

According to the Spore website, for it I will need:
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

And according to Valve's Steam website, Portal requires:
DirectX® 8 level Graphics Card

The Portal one is slightly vague, but I know for sure that my normal graphics card does not work.

I looked up my computers specifications on the web, and it said that it has 1 PCI x1, and 2 PCI

My question is: Is it possible for me to upgrade my graphics card on this computer? And if so, what kind, and how much does it cost?

Hi all -- I have a Dell Dimension 8300:

Intel Pentium 4
CPU 2.6 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
80GB Harddrive

Currently I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card but I want to upgrade. I do a fair amount of gaming, not a great deal but I do enjoy a higher performance, I also recently got BioShock which I was looking forward too but requires a higher performance card.

Does anyone have any idea on what cards would be compatible with my system and any recommendations on what would be the best fit. I do tend to prefer nVidia cards but am in no way constrained by that. I'm happy to spend a little more for that added performance, I would rather get something better now and not have to upgrade again for a while.

Thanks in advance!

Your psu (power supply unit) will undoubtedly be the limiting factor. Dell psu's are NOT among the best by far. They also use their own wiring so you cant just buy any old psu and throw it in.

Specs:
Dell Dimension 4600
Windows XP Home Edition
Intel Pentium 4
Intel 82865G Graphics Controller
Service Tag: DH7VV31 (Don't know if this helps)

This is a pretty stock computer that is used by my parents. It isn't used for much more than browsing the internet and watching/listening to multimedia. They recently purchased a new monitor that has a 1600x900 native resolution, but the max supported resolution by the system is 1280x768. After upgrading the drivers for the monitor and the graphics controller, nothing has changed. I am interested in getting a graphics card powerful enough that will increase the max supported resolution and provide enough graphics processing to handle multimedia tasks easily. I don't want a card that requires a new PSU in order to work. I have no idea as to how to go about selecting a compatible card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid your stuck if you don't want to change the power supply.
That 250 watt power supply is probably just enough for what it
is running now.
Other than that,it does have an 8X AGP graphics card slot for
an upgrade.

Hi

Apologies if this question has already been asked but I searched and couldn't find it.

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 which runs XP Home and is 3 years old. I pre-ordered Windows 7 but the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor says my onboard graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero User Interface. I don't play games on my PC but I would like all the fancy visual features of Windows 7. How do I go about choosing a graphics card that will do the job for me?

Thanks in advance...

A:Graphics card upgrade for Dell Dimension 5150

Marty welcome to the forums.

Before buying a new card, wait until you get Windows 7 and install it. There is a good possibility that it will work (the upgrade advisor for the most part is a piece of junk, I have seen it flag components as unsupported when I know full well that it is).

Once you get 7 installed this,

ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

will be about it for a driver. If it doesn't work and you still want to get a card let us know and we can recommend something. If nothing else according to the specs for your Dell,

Dimension 5150 Desktop Product Details

you have a PCI-E 16x slot, which is good. It only has a 305W power supply which isn't so good, but there are still lots of cards that will be OK on it.

Specifically One card from ONE vendor.   ASUS EAH 5450.
Some LOW Profile cards WILL NOT FIT.  The ASUS Silent 5450 and 6450 Definitely will.
The low profile must be REALLY low profile or the cover will not go on or the heatsink will prevent the hard drive bracket from going back in or both.

Get an ASUS SILENT RADEON HD 5450.  THE EAH5450 from ASUS fits in ALL Models of GX280 EXCEPT THE USFF Pictured Below.   THE 5450 Comes with 2 sets of brackets for Low Profile or standard slots.

The power supplies in the SFF are so small and the case is soo small that there are few to none upgrades.  USFF systems have no slots whatsoever.
The 19W ASUS EAH5450 would be the ONLY one I know works.

The Silent ASUS card fits all models Except the USFF.  Optiplex Tower is a better choice because you can use much better cards.
USFF isn't upgrade-able due to no slots.

So I have a Sapphire Radeon R9 280x, and I just bought a MSI GeForce GTX 970. I also have a 500W CoolerMaster powersupply, would I need to upgrade this to 600-750W?

+note: I also bought two sticks of HyperX 16GB RAM and a Corsair H75 Hydro Series CPU Cooler.

A:Upgrade graphics card=upgrade powersupply?

Your 500 watt PSU meets the minimum requirement.... GeForce GTX 970 | Specifications | GeForce

So with that in mind....I'd say yes to a new PSU.

A:Dell 3000 graphics upgrade?

You could do better if you can find one. Since you can use PCI only your choices are limited. Either a X1550 or a 6200. The 5200 will work fine though.

I have a dell 2400 series pc, with windows xp. This computer runs an onboard intigrated graphics controller. Is it possible to upgrade this, and if so what would you recomend for playing games, and videos etc...

A:Dell Extreme Graphics Upgrade

If you motherboard has an AGP slot, then you can get pretty much any video card you want, if it doesn't, then you're limited to PCI video cards. Both will probably work better than the integrated stuff, and will free up some system RAM as well. Now, to recommend a card, it's easier just to know your price range...how much are you willing to spend? Also, what kind of games are you planning on playing?

A:dell 4500 graphics upgrade

i just read a thread that asks to include specifics so i downloaded cpu-z, hope this will help.
Motherboard- dell 0m0321, chipset intel, smsc sensor
graphics interface - AGP 2.0 4x max side band not supported
memory - DDR 1024MBytes
CPU - intel pentium 4 core speed 2525MHz
power supply - whatever brand dell uses, 170w total output, +12 line is 14A. (assuming this needs to be upgraded)
i live in michigan USA. if i need to do a series of upgrades thats fine, i would like to do so anyhow to make sure my computer does not become obsolete in 6 months. but for now i would like to get newer RPG's to run such as oblivion and NWN 2 (need direct x 9.0c or higher), and in the near future make more upgrades to keep my hardware up to date. i dont want to spend more than $200-250 on a graphics card, but i am not limited to that budget. any advice on upgrades to my entire setup or just enough to get these games to work would be appreciated. the error i get when trying to play NwN2 says cannot find compatible direct 3d or directx device, does this mean i actually hafve to upgrade my video card or maybe i dont have the right drivers?

A:Dell Dimension 5100c graphics upgrade?

$50.00 and low-profile aren't usually associated with serious video gaming, unfortunately.
A LOT will depend on what gaming (screen) resolution are gaming at...which seems to be the only spec you haven't listed.
Probably you will be looking at a HD6450 1Gb card (the Sapphire version here).

Here's how the card fares in CoD:MW, and Unreal Tournament III
If you can squeeze another $5 into the budget (and if you believe in mail-in rebates) then this GT430 (or this ECS version for $50 after rebate, as is this EVGA version) would offer a better level of gaming over the 6450, as you'll note from the review links.

hi guys im looking at a geforce gtx450 or 460 for my dell 545s slimline, will it fit, or any other suggestions on cases, and what psu ill need any info would be great

A:graphics card for dell

The Inspiron 545s only takes low-profile cards. I believe that neither the 450 or 460 are available in low profile. (At www.newegg.com I see a low-profile 430, which probably isn't a fast card, but it is a Fermi series product.)

It also has a 250W PSU, which is lower than recommended for most add-in cards.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that a standard ATX power will fit in the case.

If you wish to move the motherboard to a standard case, be aware that the connector for the front panel stuff (power switch, power LED, drive LED, etc.) is a Dell proprietary design. That may not make it impossible, but it'd be more work than with an industry standard motherboard.

My advice: treat the PC an an appliance, as Dell intended. If you want a PC that uses industry standard components, build one. (It's what I've done since 1997.)

It has an AGP slot. But you need to upgrade your memory, and video card. You have 128 or 256MB. And 512 or 768 or 1gb are NEEDED to do any gaming.

I've been reading somewhat through these forums and my problem seems to be the same for a lot of dell users. My horizontal dots on the screen like this appears to be the same with others. Now I have re-installed the Nvidia driver and the problem remains. I've take the hardware accelerator down 1 notch and the dots go away but games are glitchy and videos dont play. If I take it down 4 levels then I can play only some movies but games are still glitchy. I have a Dell XPS M170 w/ media center, nvidia geforce go 7800 gtx graphics card. I only have about a week to fix this problem due to being deployed soon. If anyone has any clue to what this issue is any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thank you

A:Dell Dimension 3000 - Suggestions for Graphics Upgrade

You should have an AGP slot so I'd foreget about a PCI card if you want to do any real gaming. Radeon 9800 Pro's and XT's have gone down in price lately. Those would be a good match for your system. Id also get a 256mb card if you can afford it. A PCI card will be a big improvement over onboard graphics but unless you can find a FX5700 SE, the other PCI video cards arent going to work well for newer games.

What kind of computer do you have? Have you updated it since you got it (adding stuff inside)?
Also, that is the drivers, they probably did something where those became uninstalled, because nothing is "Standard VGA Graphics" every company gives their cards names.

Hello!
I recently tried to update my graphics card and was met with disastrous results. Can you tell me if my machine "should" have let me upgrade to the following card with no issues?
My MachineDell XPS 8700 X8700-3312BLK Desktop (Windows 7 Professional,Memory     16GB (Upgraded to 32)  Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMsVideo Graphics     NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 4GB DDR3
Upgraded Card to:  MSI GAMING RX 480 GDD R5 8GB
What HappenedEvery time I tried to load my game (World of Warcraft) my machine would reboot. When I tried to load the MSI software it made the screen have boxes all over it then it did a reboot. Finally I got the blue screen.  Put my old card back on.  I also had to use the special connector for it which I did. It wouldn't start at all without that.
Thanks!

I am just curious as to what graphics cards I can install in my laptop. I have the HP pavilion G070ca 17inch laptop, it currently uses an intel I7-5500u and a nvidia GT940m. I would like to upgrade to probably the 970 or 980 just wanting to know if those are compatiable with my laptop

A:Graphics Card Upgrade

Hi: There are no removable or upgradable graphics cards in your notebook. The nvidia GT940m GPU is integrated into the motherboard and the only way to upgrade the graphics would be to replace the entire motherboard with one listed in the service manual for your model notebook that may have better graphics. This would be a very costly and labor intensive project. Better to sell your notebook and get one with the graphics solution you want.

I know that I have PCIe slot and I was wondering whether I could put a PCIe 2.0 card into my machine and whether I'd need a new power adaptor or anything like that, I'm quite new to upgrading computers so any help would be grateful and I can also post any extra information you may need, thanks!

With that budget and 500 watts, you should not be too limited in your purchases. One thing you need to check is if your Power Supply has a set of 6 pin connectors or 8 pin connectors because sometimes on the pre-bought machines they do not have too many.

Here is what I would recommend if you have at least 2 6 Pins available:

Highest
R9 280 £175
or
R9 270X £140

Those would both be excellent cards with the 280 being the best and the 270X being right below it in terms of performance. Both would be a huge step up from an HD 5450.

Ok, I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop and need help choosing what to upgrade my graphics card to. I just want a cheap one, but one that's better than the 64 Mb one I currently have. All i need it for is to make my games run smoother and not crash so much. I don't have very much money so try to keep it cheap =)
Thanks in advance,

I'm currently using the following card:

EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI.

Last week I changed from Win 7 home Premium 32 bit to the 64 bit. I built this computer last fall, and the the rest of my specs are I5 Quad core 760, 2.80G; 8gb Corsair DDR3 1600, 600W PS.

I use this computer mostly for Flight Sims, and it seems to me my best upgrade would be the GPU. I've always had good luck with EVGA, Nvidea cards, and would like to get one that will outperform the old 250 I'm using and will also run on the 600W PS. I guess I could replace the PS if I really had to, but not looking forward to the work involved, lol.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions that will improve my system. Thanks.

A:Looking to upgrade graphics card and RAM

In order to upgrade your ram you need to know how many slots are available and what's populating those slots. Run CPU-Z to get that info. If you have 4 slots and you're only using two, just get two more sticks that match what you currently have installed. If you have two slots, you need to remove what you have and just replace with the same type of RAM but 2 x 2GB set.

As far as the video card, it would help to know the specs of the power supply. If you have one of the slim chassis then you need a low profile card which limits your choices.

What's your price range for the video card?

Hi,

I assembled my PC in mid 2010 and it's still runs OK for my purposes except that I feel that Firefox and other programs that I use feel somehow sluggish and I attribute this to the naive graphics card I'm using (AMD RADEON HD 5450) even with the latest Catalyst drivers. I picked this up on purpose because it has no fan (I'm not a gamer anyway).
Now that it's 2014, I'm asking a recommendation for a more powerful graphics card that uses no fan at all in order to enjoy more powerful graphics in Firefox, youtube, flash, photoshop,...etc without adding any extra noise.

Thanks in advance.

A:Better no fan graphics card for upgrade

I sort of doubt that it is your sluggish problem especially with Firefox. That could be due to your internet connection.

What size hard drive and is it close to being full? Do you defrag it periodically?

With that said, check out the Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT730 4GB.

Better to sell your notebook and get one with the graphics solution you want.

yep, you can run a agp 8x in a agp 4x slot as long as the card says its backwards compatible

altho, with that huge bottleneck, i dont think its worth getting the 3850

my last system had a agp 4x slot, couldnt tell a difference at all when i upgraded my nvidia 5200 to a much better agp card.

save a couple of bucks and try the 3650 agp card, it also supports 4x/8x agp

Is it to play any specific game? Have you at any time upgraded your power supply? A higher end graphics card will require a power supply better then the stock HP one.

Also for any of the high end cards you will be limited by your processor.

Couldn't see where to connect power supply to card. Also how does he find out the power supply his computer has. Finally if the supply is not enough can you recommend one that will be compatable with the PC

Thanks

A:Graphics card upgrade

The power output of the power supply should be somewhere on the power supply. Usually the ones that manufacturers use are anywhere from 200 watts to 350 watts. (Not 100% sure).
None the less the best way to figure out which power supply you need is to see what is recommend for the card, and then get more then that.
As far as the connecting goes there should be a spare plug, but once again manufactures dont usually give extra because they want it to look clean. Just get an upgraded one from somewhere. Antec usually makes good power supplies, and power supplies should be universal.

Here is the processor support list for that motherboard:

http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2314

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 appears to be a supported processor.

--------------------------------------------------------

The 6670 appears to require at least a 400W power supply.

The 6770 appears to require at least a 500W power supply.

I'm not a hardware upgrade expert, so I'll leave you with someone who can give you more and better advice.

Is it possible to upgrade the built in Nvidia GeForce GT 745A card to one more suitable for gaming? I unstand it is alot of work and it's costly to install a graphics card in an AIO pc. If not, does anyone know how I can modify more of my settings to make games run smoothly? Many games run fine (such as GTA 5) but some are still choppy and have to be run at low settings (such as Forza Hotrizon 3).

I have a XPS/Dimension XPS Gen 2. The graphic card it came with crapped on on me 6 months after my warranty expired, a friend let me borrow his generic card just to use on a temp basis. What can I upgrade to. I believe i only have an agp connection and i was referred a card that uses pci express, i assume it wont work. What can i do?

A:Upgrade graphics card

Just off the bat, I took a look to see what they have at www.tigerdirect.com. Click on Video Cards on the left side menu column, then select the submenu AGP cards. There are 40 cards to choose from. You'll have fun looking at the selection. Check to see that it is compatible with your processor. I would also see what kind of selection they have at www.directron.com. Those are my favorite two online stores for getting computer parts.
