IE 11 Windows Update installation failed code 9c59

Q: IE 11 Windows Update installation failed code 9c59

Hello,

Last week I did a clean install of Win 7. A few days later noticed Windows update had stopped working. I was unable to fix it so did a repair install of Windows.
Now all seems fine except I cannot update to IE 11. I get a 9c59 error and cant seem to fix this.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

The log files are here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5r2y7pthy5khtu0/CBS.rar?dl=0

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been getting the 9C59 error for a while with the Windows automatic updater. I've attempted a manual update of IE 10, but had the same error. Not sure where to go from here.

I've attached the CBS file.

Thanks.

CheckSUR found and fixed a large number of errors - but there are still a couple of errors remaining, which it may be able to fix if you run the tool a second time. Please post (just) the new CheckSUR.log file afterwards.

There are a couple of errors in the CBS.log which may relate to the errors outstanding in the CheckSUR - so we need to get those fixed first, and only then see if it's affected the SFC/CBS results.

If the file is too large (8MBcompressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file isbelow the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (theforum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I'm running Windows 7 x86_64 architecture, and I am trying to install Internet Explorer 10 via the Windows Update service (currently I have Internet Explorer 8 installed). This update is continually failing with a 9C59 error (screenshot attached). I have tried to update to Internet Explorer 10 manually via the .exe to install Internet Explorer 10 and it also fails (as does, IE 9).

I have also attached the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS directory as a .zip file. From this, it seems as though some repair files are missing, although I can't quite figure out where these are supposed to be, or from which package/update they should have been installed from.

Any help appreciated,
Jon

It's an error type that I would have expected CheckSUR to find - but it appears to miss it.

I;m not sure whether it's a registry error or a file srror at this point - and I can't do much until at least Friday evening (Tom, please take that as an invite to take over! )

I'll be back when I can - post back if you don't hear from me by Saturday

I've been trying to get my computer updated to IE 11 for some time, with little luck. After trying just about every online fix I could find, I'm hoping these forums can help. Per the posting guidlines below are my details.

The IE 11 update is the only important update available I have run the system readiness tool without error, SFC scan gives "did not find any integrity violations", and the windows update fails with a code of 9c59.

Attached are my CBS logs. I removed the cbspersist files to get the contents down to size.

I'm hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am getting unknown error code 80073712 for the last four windows updates and they will not install. One of them is IE10 which fails with error code 9C59. I tried install on clean boot, and ran chkdsk but no success. I am attaching screenshots and zip of log files as suggested for this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
sfc /scannow did not find any integrity violations.

Thanks.

A:Windows Update Errors 80073712 and Code 9C59

Error 80073712 occurs when the Windows component store is corrupt. The component store holds the files and information that's used to install updates. The System Update Readiness Tool checks and repairs corrupt files and registry data. Read the "More information" section of the Description of the System Update Readiness Tool article on the Microsoft Support website for details.

I have been trying to install updates on a new setup Lenovo Thinkcentre with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. All updates were successful except for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. This update gives error 9C59. I have tried a number of fixes, some related to .net, as some of the error information pointed me in that direction. I have tried the Microsoft fix-it for update problems to no avail.

Again, the error code in Windows Update is 9C59.

I am attaching two CBS zipped files, as my original would not upload, and I was thinking it might have been too big, being over the 10Mb limit. The files are CBS-1.zip and CBS-2.zip. The second file (CBS-2.zip) has three of the .cab files in it, all the text files are in the first zip.

Any help on this headache would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows update error code 80070BC9 and 9C59

There are no problems in either SFC or CheckSUR - but the background CBS data shows that a number of updates are in a pending state, and access to the registry is apparently being blocked.
From the look of the Filters.log you have both Symantec and Bit9 security programs running - it may be that this combination is blocking the updates.
I know nothing about Bit9 beyond what a quick look at their home page tells me, but a combination of Symantec with almost anything else in the form of an AV is pretty much guaranteed to cause problems.

What versions of which security programs are currently installed? what others have been installed ?

Hi folks

I found my way here after being unable to update to IE10 on Windows 7 (32)

the windows update error is:

"Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Installation date: ‎09/‎05/‎2013 10:22 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C59
Update type: Optional"

I have attached the CBS.zip file. (NB: when I pasted the copy of CBS folder to my desktop I got an error message that access to CBS.log was denied. Maybe this is normal?)

I'd be most grateful for any help you can give.

Regards

Chris

the copy/paste problem is common - which is one reason why I tend to prefer just collecting the CBS.log file on its own.
Copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop, and compress it, then upload that.

Windows update for IE10 on Windows 7 64bit fails continuously with error code 9c59. I tried the stand alone updater with the same results. All other windows updates complete successfully, it's just IE10 that continually fails.

Don't know if this is related but I do have problems with IE8 (current browser). After a while, an open IE window will become non responsive and can't be closed out. I have to use task manager to close it down. I have sent off the reports to MS, but no solution has appeared.

I've attached the cbs file. Let me know what else I can do. Thanks.

There are no significant file errors in either SFC or CheckSUR logs.

In these cases, it has sometimes been a solution to uninstall IE9, reboot a couple of times, and then reinstall IE9 again, before installing IE10 successfully.
It's worth a try

I've made several attempts at trying to install IE11 without success. I tried attaching the CBS.zip file as per instructions I read in an earlier thread, however, I have had not success and found out that the max file size is 8MB - my zip file is 153MB. Any help is much appreciated.

I brought my computer as a windows 7 computer and i upgraded all the way up to windows 8.1 before i got a virus. I had to order some dvds which worked but the updating process stopped at 99%. I let the updating process update for about 10 hours and it was still stuck.

So i took the dvd out and it got me to the startup services screen where it got stuck. So i changed a registry line and it worked! I got all my files back but now i can't upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10. Can i get some help?

We run several 2008R2 servers, on which we manually updated IE from 9 to 10. Two of them have the same problem: cannot install IE10. Error code when using automatic update is 9C59 (the famous one).
Standalone installer just finishes with error: installation failed.
Already run Microsoft fixes, no change. SFC didn't report any problems.
Please find attached CBS and SURT logs.
Had a look into CBS as well a found the error:
Failed to find file: amd64_microsoft-windows-scripting-vbscript_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22024_none_a6feb3715dac73fc\vbscript.dll [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

Thanks for having a look into this .

Cheers

P.S. had to strip down the CBS.log - was originally 64 MB big..., but I hope there are still enough ERRORs in it to get down to the main cause.

Thanks

Hi friends,
as a many users before me, I have problem with Internet Explorer 10 update via Windows Update. Everytime instalation ends with error 9C59. I've tried also to download last IE10 package from official sites, and install it, but with no success. So I've tried to remove already installed older update package with IE10, and then install this new package, but same problem.

Next step was installation of SURT, and try to update again. It also doesn't work. SFC Scan was ok.

Can anyone please help me with it?

I suspect that part of your problem is due to strange time-shifts that appear in your CBS log.

Also, you have a large number of filters present - this may be overloading your system.

What AV's are currently installed - and what other AV's have ever been installed?

Hi
i can't update IE on several machines (some desktop pc's, some notebooks. different images, but all Win7SP1, 64bit) the IE 10 or IE 11 from IE 9.
we dont have internet on our production LAN, so i want to update via internal WSUS..like other pc's and notebooks in our LAN worked with success.
then i tried with offline installer...also both...IE 10 and IE 11, same failure.
i tried many things:
- uninstall products via FORFILES /P Command and install IE afterwards
- uninstall preReq Updates and install again
- install via Online-Update (Internet)
all done with real PC or a virtuell PC-Image, so i could try the things from begin on new checkpoint.
Done with Local Administrator and Domain-Administrator
i dont know what to do anymore.....
Last thing i tried: reboot - Run KB947821 - reboot - run again, took about 2 hours - reboot - try to run IE install with WSUS

Thanks for help

Downloaded the System Update Readiness Tool and installed it

Completed a SFC scan (no problems detected)

Ran the windows update repair tool

Nothing made a difference.

It fails if I try and update IE11 from microsoft.com directly or do it through windows update.

This is a new build, with a fresh install of win7, the current IE is 8.

Any ideas!?

EDIT: I feel I should mention that I don't want to actually use IE11, it's just that windows update keeps automatically trying to install it and fails, every single day, time and time again.

A:IE11 update fails with 'Code 9C59' error.

I should also add that I have done both the SURT and SFC scan.

Sounds likely to be a malware infection to me.
The error code you are getting implies that WU cannot access the servers at MS.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Quarantine everything it finds

Hi everyone

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I've just had a new motherboard installed and now I can't install Windows updates.

I decided to uninstal Service Pack 2 but it no longer appears in my ADD/REMOVE programs window so I can no longer uninstall it.

I've tried finding the reason for failure of updates on the Micrososft website but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Any help gratefully received.

Since Nov. 11 when I turn off my computer, I receive a message that Microsoft Updater will install a critical update to my computer. The update icon shows up in my taskbar every day. After going to the Microsoft website and checking my update history, I see that the needed and attempted installation is "Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB973475)" with a "Failed" notation, every day since the 11th. Can anyone tell me how I can get this update to successfully install?

Thank you much!

I'm trying to install update KB2639308 but it keeps saying that it fails and gives me the error code WindowsUpdate_FFFFFFFE. I looked it up online and it says that it can't update because of malware. However, when I run Norton and do a full system scan it doesn't find anything. I also tried to fix it with the Windows Update Troubleshooter and that doesn't help either. Is there anything else I can do without having to fully reinstall Windows 7 like the info on the site says? Please help.

A:Failed Windows Update, error code WindowsUpdate_FFFFFFFE

Hi,

A pre-requisite for this update is having Service Pack 1 installed. Can you confirm that this is the case?

Also, which version of Norton are you running? Is it the very latest? I have found posts where running Microsoft's own MSE doesn't find any malware, yet the error this occurs, so lets try something totally different:

Please perform an online virus scan using ESET
ESET Online Scanner

Can you also please run this tool to allow us to diagnose any other conditions that might prevent this update installing:

1. Click the Continue button.
2. Click Copy button (ignore any error messages if they appear)
3. Paste the results here in your next reply

This sounds to me like you may have to try going in and deleting the windows update catalog files and re running windows update and see what happens. If that doesnt solve the issue post back and we can take it from there.

Windows 7 Pro. i7 4790. MSI Gaming 7 board. Corsair SSD for booting Win7. Tried update. Tried SURT. Ran SFC scan with no errors. Crazy frustrated. Wondering if it has to do with the new fandangled msi boot stuff. Even went as far as to DL AVG tune up to see about repairing reg keys, that didn't seem to work either. Downloaded the latest MSI bios file, updated, still no go. Tried several windows "fix it" those didn't work either. Tried manually downloading and running the updated, that just said "failed" after running. I'm officially stuck. Please help.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

hi ..., i need help regarding the windows update issue.
i'm using windows vista business sp2 running on lenovo thinkpad sl300.
i want to upgrade my harddrive since i need a bigger capacity. so, i try to move my data on old harddrive to a new one.
i'm already try to migrate my harddrive several ways:
1. i try to clone my harddrive with sector by sector copy
2. i try to use rescue and recovery (utilities from thinkvantage)
3. i try to use backup and restore center (windows complete pc backup)
all of them give me the result, everything works just fine, except i no longer can run windows update and all related to it, for example microsoft security essentials.
i already try to fix the windows update with microsoft fix it
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us with normal and  aggresive mode, none of them works.
can anyone help me on this?Regards, Ferry Huang

A:Windows Update Failed Error Code 0xc8000247

but when i register the dll, there are some error saying the dll is missing or not valid (something like that),
maybe some DLLs are damaged.

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files (create the txt file shown under [2] and look if all files are restored)?

best regards

Hi all,
I have upgraded all the other Windows Update for Windows 7.

I uninstalled my IE 9 following the suggestion at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2872074 .

I have also updated the Intel HD 4000 graphic card driver.

I have also followed the suggestions in FIX Error Code 9C59: Internet Explorer Installation failed (IE10, IE11) - wintips.org - Windows Tips & How-tos . This includes deleting the folder at C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution .

I have tried to install the IE11 through both "Windows Update" and through using the IE11 offline installer.

I have also downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness tool (DISM).

However, the same 9C59 Error appears whenever I tried to install

Computer: Fujitsu SH 572
Error: 9C59

Since the CBS files are ridiculously huge I have uploaded them to dropbox:https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f8g8wl5m8...BvrClgT_a?dl=0. I have also attached the IE11_main.log file for reference. Thanks loads

I've recently built a PC and installed Win7 64bit on it. Everything seems to work fine, except when I try to install recently downloaded updates. I have about 169 required downloads, which are all able to be downloaded without issue. When the PC reboots to install, it sits in the installation window for maybe an hour, and then displays a message saying that the installation has failed, and that the PC is re configuring to previous settings.

Any ideas how to fix this issue? My computer specs are in my profile if needed. Thanks in advance.

Hello G10Egg,

Sorry to hear you can't install IE 11.

I've got a few steps for you to try, which should resolve this issue and allow you to install the latest version of IE.

Troubleshooting a failed installation of Internet Explorer 11
Prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 11
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

If the above suggestions don't help, please do let me know.

Thank you,

To whom it may concern.

I've been having trouble installing Internet Explorer 11 on the HP Pavilion Media Center a1612n desktop. It keeps giving me errors. The last error I had was the Error 9C59.

I am sending you some files to look at. I will try to install IE11 again and let everyone know. Please help me. Thank you.

A:Windows Update Error 9C59

As you are new and your first post. You have done well with the accompanying files. I haven't looked at your files, however, the 9C59 error is an often reported (and resolved) problem installing I.E.11. Suggest you do a forum search and look over the fixes, as you will probably find the fix for yours.

Hi,
My laptop refuses to update to IE 11. A manual update produces error 9C59 on Windows update: Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems.

SFC scan doesn't show any errors.
I have attached all CBS logs.
Please recommend what I should try next, thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance, Marko

I am trying to assist a friend in repairing their windows update problems. I've made progress- but I have 5 Important updates that refuse to install...

IE11 - 9C59
KB2937610 - 800736B3
KB2972211 - 800736B3
KB3032323 - 800736B3
KB2791765 - 800736B3

the SURT was run- and got most of the updates to work other than the ones shown above.
sfc /scannow said all files were fine.

SURT has been run 4 or so times- it's not shown any repairs after the first run... as I would expect.

I've looked through the log files, but I am not really sure what I am looking for to indicate what the problem is.

I have attempted to attach the CBS.Zip file but I got a 404 error each time I clicked "Upload". This must be due to the size of the file. Here is a onedrive link to the zip file.

A:Windows Update: 800736B3 and 9C59

The upload is 8 times larger than the forum's 8MB size limit on Zip/RAR files - which is why it wouldn't upload here

Your first run of CheckSUR had the following summary...

Quote:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1046
Found 31 errors
CSI C Mark Deployment Missing Total count: 31

The next was clear of errors - how did you go about fixing the C Mark errors, since CheckSUR wasn't able to do it?

The CBS.log file shows the expected errors for the updates (apart from the IE one)
e.g.

This looks to me as if the install is actually stuck in a pending state, and you need to roll it back...

This is the command to run when booted offline at a Repair Environment command prompt

dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

This is supposed to revert all pended updates, and hopefully allow the system to start again - assuming it works, do another Check for Updates before attempting to install the updates again.

I've tried all the obvious stuff and nothing works. SFC reports no integrity issues with the OS.

I'm wondering if the original problem was trying to update using Windows Update first. I was able to install IE 10 on my HP laptop running Windows 7 Professional x64 by running the stand alone installer. I did have the updated video driver so I didn't run into the package update install problem even though it has a hybrid video system.

Thanks,

This appears to be an LDR branch off the main GDR - and as such could be difficult to fix.
This would almost certainly have required manual download and install of a hotfix patch - LDR patches don't usually come by way of Windows Update.
I'm not fully conversant with the methods of fixing this type of problem - so I'm, going to see if I can get a couple of others involved, who may have more knowledge.

Have gotten this error for a while in windows update and have also been unsuccessful installing IE11 as a stand alone. My current IE version does not open anymore.

1. Ran SURT -- no errors
2. Ran SFC/scannow -- no errors
3. The error code in Windows update is 9C59

I have attached CBS log files in a zip file.

Thanks for your help. Pepper me with any question that may help resolve this...

Thanks.

Twelve Windows Updates are failing with error codes: 80070643, 800B0100, and 9C59.

I've tried several supported Microsoft fixes without success (System Update Readiness Tool, Windows Update troubleshooter, etc.).

I noticed it's trying to install IE 9,10, and 11 simultaneously, so I've tried each individually which also fails.

I uninstalled/reinstalled .NET 3 and 4.

Attached are WindowsUpdate.log, a picture of the applicable updates, and my zipped CBS folder (created after running sfc /scannow, which reported some corrupt files that couldn't be fixed).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello pbowles3 and welcome to the forums

Was it my zip files that you saw by any chance? Yes, these issues are specific to the user that I'm helping. This should be a 5 minute job, but I've had all sorts of curveballs in the past.

Before we continue, I need to know whether the computer is x86 or x64?

Dropping the .msu file in that folder will do nothing whatsoever I'm afraid, it doesn't say to do that in the link that you provided either:

I am having an issue that it looks like many other have run into trying to upgrade from IE to or Other Windows Updates go through fine but anytime I try to install IE or via Windows Update or from the offline installer it fails 9C59 error Windows cannot 32bit install IE10 7 Update Windows or IE11: with the error C A little backstory on this in case it helps We have a VDI environment so this is on our gold image Months back we updated IE to IE but found that we were having compatibility issues with an internal web app and had to downgrade back to IE via uninstalling the IE installed update It appears that I can still re-install IE but anything beyond Windows 7 32bit cannot install IE10 or IE11: Windows Update error 9C59 that fails with the info above I've tried many of the suggestions out there such as reinstalling the readiness tool resetting windows update agent etc but no luck so far The interesting thing that Windows 7 32bit cannot install IE10 or IE11: Windows Update error 9C59 I found is if i start fresh with this update again so i start with IE the quot turn windows features on off quot shows IE as an option to toggle on off However after I try the IE install and it fails i still have IE installed but the quot windows features on off quot window shows IE so its almost like it ALMOST gets there and fails Either way if theres any help someone could have for this I'd greatly appreciate it i'm happy to try and scans logs that might help thank you andrew

Hi

After your great help with my last problem i'm back with another (the price of success!)

Windows 7 ultimate - some updates are installing OK, some are being repeated after a successful installation & the IE10 update repeatedly fails with error code 9C59.

I've tried MS Fixit. I've done a repair install of Win7 ultimate, which improved things a little (before that, updates KB2667402 & KB982018 would continually fail).

CBS.zip & windowsupdate.log are attached.

Here's some background which may be relevant:
I started with Win 7 pro, which turned out to be non-genuine (ebay!). Windows updates stopped working because it was non-genuine. Microsoft supplied a new copy of Win7 ultimate, which I installed via a custom installation. I didn't do a clean install because I used a 3rd party product call PCmover to include all applications & settings in the upgrade to Win7 ultimate. All has been OK with Win7 ultimate except the updates.

THanks

I don't know if this would help:

I was going to try that but thought I'd ask here first.... taa

Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum so sorry if this thread is not as it should be.

I have spent a while researching the above issue and there has been a number of these issues brought up and I have seen that you guys are very experienced in this field so would like to pick your brains if I may.

I understand this issue is generally different every time it pops up, unfortunately I have looked through the CBS log and cannot see which of the many errors are the cause for the Internet Explorer 10 update 9C59 issue.

I have attached the logs suggested and would really appreciate any help with this.

Oh! I have tried using the stand alone IE 10 installer but this failed also.

Thanks

Hi,

I tried a lot of things trying to resolve this issue but nothing worked.
I finally follow the procedure described on this forum, in the hope someone here can help.

I activated the Administrateur account (my system is in French) and ran the CheckSUR and Windows Update from this account as otherwise I can't access the CBS log file.
I joined the requested files,
Thank you by advance.

A:Windows 7/64 Home Premium Update errors 9C59 & 800736B3

Your SFC scan was clear - but the background CBS data shows some severe problems.
PLease run the CheckSUR tool, and post the results...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

Hi Venkat_iv,
Where did you get the installlation package ?Is it a IEAK installation package ?Have the machines got the latest updates ?
"exit code 0x800F081E "means "The specified package is not applicable to this image".
We can download the installation package here .Pay attention to the 32bit and 64 bit architecture .
http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/Internet-Explorer-11-for-Windows-7-details.aspx
We can try to install the package in a standalone machine to ensure the installation package can work well .

I can't find any SFC results anywhere?- what error message did you get when you ran it?

The CheckSUR appears to have completed in a non-standard manner of some kind - the summary is missing.

This would all tend towards the conclusion that you have some fairly major corruption present..

I suspect that a repair install is going to be your best option.

Hi

Recently had a work laptop passed onto me as part of my new job.

I cannot get Windows Update to work - either minor updates or IE11 which is the only important update to install.

IE11 fails on install, the minor updates fail to configure after rebooting after an update.

I have tried every solution I can find on the internet but cannot get it to work at all.

Not sure if this is part of the problem but I changed the main admin user name following this seven forums tutorial:

User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name

It all went to plan except couldn't do step 22 as have Windows 7 Home Premium.

This is driving me up the wall - I have spent hours trying to fix it and am getting nowhere.

Has anyone got any advice I can try?

Thanks

Nick

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

There's no sign in your CBS.log file that SFC actually ran.
an 0x80070002 error is actually a 'File not found' error, and often means that a registry entry is pointed in the wrong direction, rather than that a file is missing.

Is your machine showing any other signs of problems?

Hi,

I have a W7 Pro 64-bit machine that just will not apply KB2868038

after a reboot it it comes up failed with code 8024200D

System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) 'Hotfix' was applied with no dramas

SFC /scannow came up clean

The PC is part of a domain with a WSUS server handing out the updates.
It's identical to a bunch of other PCs and is the only machine with a fail notice.

Apart from this one item, it's not showing and other updates needed.

Cheers

A:W7 Update KB2868038 failed with code 8024200D

Hi Joss and welcome to Sevenforums!

I looked at your files and it seems that your update is failing possibly because of a missing system file "usbcir.sys"

usbcir.sys is a driver connected to Infrared eHome. I would try updating or installing this driver and then see if your problem is fixed.

Also, the 8024200D error could indicate that the Update wasn't completely downloaded or installed. If the driver is not the problem, redownload the update and try to update. I would try this after a reboot, just to be thorough.

Try a system integrity scan
RUN > CMD > SFC /SCANNOW

Also try using firefox to access the net, then uninstall IE & download to install IE9 again.

You can try rolling back to your previous ver as well.

I have been trying for days to install IE 11.  Three Microsoft help desk people could not accomplish the installation.  Support articles suggest uninstalling IE 9 which I cannot find.  Will uninstalling IE 10 help?  Are there hidden IE
9 files and updates?  Which are they?
Why is this such a common problem that remains unsolved?
Don't know what to do except pay a ransom to have IE 11 installed.  Please make a suggestion that will work.

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2789642)

A:Update Installation KB2789642 Failed

Have you tried this:  Download Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Microsoft Windows updates will usually give a reason for updates failing to install. If you go to updates on your computer,
see what reason they give for the failure.

A:Java 6 update 13 Installation Failed

You've tried everything I'd normally have tried. You could run regedit and search for any references to Java.

I'm assuming XP is up to date. I've had luck in the past reinstalling the latest SP to solve oddball issues such as this. You may also want to try running a cleanup tool such as CCleaner. Aside from that, you could always reinstall an older version.

I have been getting help from Arc over on the BSOD section of this forum site for a few weeks now. I figured I'd start a thread here about the update troubles I've been experiencing over the past few days as well. There is one update that won't apply no matter what I try. I've run the amalgamated .bat tool posted on this forum and that didn't solve my issue. I will let my logs and screenshots speak for themselves from here, though.

Thanks in advance for any help!

As stated in the title, error code is 80073712. Also, I can't seem to get my CBS logs to upload. I keep getting an internal server error about the resource not being available. The screenshot attached perfectly fine. I will try to either edit this post to add them or add them as a comment.

Still can't get the CBS.zip to upload. I will attach a screenshot of the error page. I'll try it again later.
