I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My son's notebook has come loose on the left hand side at the hinge.  He's in college 300 miles away currently.  The unit is about 2 years old and appears to be a common problem per the forums.  How can this be fixed?  can you buy a complete case?  Could there be a missing screw? Thanks for the help!

Hi: What model wireless network adapter does your notebook have? If you don't know, go to the device manager and click to expand the Network Adapters device category. There you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter.

I've had my DV7 for a little over two years and have only been using it for school work. I am very gentle with it considering it cost a pretty penny and have never dropped it or anything like that.... I just recently noticed that when my laptop is open, the right side of the beats audio speaker panel is very close to just popping off the entire computer. There is something underneath the panel that is putting pressure on it... I've found that it has to do with the hinge because if I press the panel down, the laptop screen will move back into it's correct place. I am very nervous about this because I have a feeling the screen may completely come off soon, so I haven't opened or closed the computer since I've discovered this problem. Does anyone have a solution to this? How I can fix this? I am no longer under warranty.

The back left hinge connecting my laptop's keyboard base and screen has broken. It has been deteriorating quickly over the past week or so and is now actually lifting up the metal casing of my laptop when I open and close it.  I bought this laptop in 2013 and have never had an issue with it until now. I've seen countless posts about the hinge of these models breaking around the same time of general use. Please let me know the best option for repairing this problem.  I would like to know of nearby HP repair centers or where I can ship this computer to for an official repair.Thanks.

Hello, I have a 2  year old HP Envy 15 model 15t-j100.  I've had no problems with it until recently. Over the past week my screen will flicker and get fuzzy. It's most dramatic on the left side . Hi, i'm looking to upgrade my Laptop with a Solid State Drive. Is there a list of supported hard drive configurations or is it possible to use any combination? I'd like to continue using the currently installed disc as a secondary drive (1TB HDD) if possible since my laptop has two hard drive slots. (migrating the OS to the SSD, which would then be Disc 1, and using the currently installed disc as Disc 2). Is this possible? Thanks in advance for your reply!

A:Envy 17-j100 Series Disc Compatibility

Hi, I think you are talking about disk, not disc (normally for CD/DVD or BD). Yes, basically you can use any SSD. There are many around but current hot is Samsung  850 Evo for price / performace            http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/memory-storage/memory-storage/ssd/MZ-75E1T0BW My suggestion: use 1TB (same size with the existing HDD) and simply clone the whole old HDD to SSD then make SSD as drive 1. You may get a small problem: even your machine has 2 bays but no cable inside for bay 2. You have to source one, please try from:            https://www.newmodeus.com/ Regards.

Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. I have an HP Envy with a broken left hinge, which I've seen many times in this forum.  It was never dropped but just one day appeared to break.  The notebook is under warranty...can it be sent in and repaired/replaced?  Please let me know what steps I need to take to get this fixed. The laptop was purchased in September 2013. Thanks!

Bought my expensive laptop in 2014 and just over a year the left hinge started breaking. Its a sparingly used laptop and now seems to pull away at the bottom panel if I try to open or close the display . The left hinge is prying the bottom panel.I am worried the laptop will break if I try using it anymore. Never been dropped and was taken good care of.Did not expect HP to give way so easily when other laptops much cheaper dont have this basic hinge issue. At this point I am terribly disappointed with HP but need to get it fixed. Please help.

Hi guys,
always been a windows xp pro and windows 7 enterprise user.
Yesterday I received a brand new HP envy with the fastest i7 quad core processor and windows 8.1.
The good news is that I do not understand people who have difficulty using windows 8.1 because it's so different. The only difference are the apps and the touch screen. Other than that all is the same.

I have one huge problem. Windows 8.1 is so slow it's close to unusable. Programs take 10 seconds or more to load. Boot up is 4 times as long as windows 7. Actually I do not care too much about boot up, because that is only done occasionally.
The fact that programs take for ever to open really annoys me.

You know how older computers take for ever to load stuff? I feel exactly like that.
I am hardwired by Ethernet, I do not trust wireless.
thanks
quo

A:New i7 quad core hp envy with windows 8.1 running so slow!

Hello and welcome!

Since it is new it could be doing a lot of updates in the background and system cleanup which can really slow things down. Is there a lot of hard drive activity and what does Task Manager show? Especially CPU and network activity.

I have a DV7t Quad edition laptop and the WIFI card has recently been acting up and finally failed. I purchased a "for HP' Intel 7260HMW card and installed it, at to my chagrin, my laptop refused to boot. Why on earth is there a whitelist for wifi cards. Especially in a laptop this old. There have been several Bios upgrades but it would appear none allow the PC owner to improve their machine to achieve some added longevity and updated technology. Is there a version of BIOS I can install on this computer that does not contain this asinine whitelist?

A:Upgrade Wifi card in DV7t Quad edition

April. Your manual here. Page 29 you will find the model numbers and part numbers of WiFI cards for your laptop. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448 Because of FCC regulations for LOW-POWER, NON-LICENSED TRANSMITTERS those are the only ones that can be used. https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Engineering_Technology/Documents/bulletins/oet63/oet63rev.pdf There is no official BIOS to unlock the Whitelist. REO

Hello,

See my system specs for my laptop make and model. I cannot get the audio driver to install. I have tried two drivers from the HP website that it recommended for this model (sp55094.exe and sp51637.exe) as well as allow Windows Update to locate it for me. It's not working. It is an IDT software, specifically for Beats Audio. And it simply is not installing. It says the hardware is not supported.

Disclaimer: I did get a new mobo over Christmas break, but it was matching identical to the original I'm not sure why the audio's not wanting to work.

A:HP Pavilion dv6t 6000 Quad Edition - IDT Audio Driver Issue

Reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers and then see if the IDT will install. Since you had the motherboard replaced the chipset drivers may need to be reinstalled. One of the things the chipset drivers do is define (Identify) all the devices on the motherboard. I have seen many Intel based motherboards that will have problems specifically with the audio chip if the motherboard drivers were not installed during Windows installation.

The Intel chipset drivers are listed on the HP download site for your model.

Here's a strange problem. I've previously run various win 7 x64 builds on my system, which had an intel e6600 core 2 duo, with no problems. I recently swapped out the e6600 for a q9400 and i suddenly cannot install any build of win7 x64. I get the following bluescreen error immediately upon booting from the dvd - MULTIPROCESSOR_CONFIGURATION_NOT_SUPPORTED (stop 0x0000003e) Apparently this error generally relates to trying to run or install windows on a multiprocessor system where the processors are not matched, but all i have here is a single quad core

Just for the hell of it i then tried a 32bit install dvd and it installed and ran just fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:Can't install x64 after upgrading to quad core?

Hi & Welcome to our Forums!

That is odd...I think it sounds like something in the BIOS needs to be changed. Since it went from 2 to 4 cores there may be something needing a change in the BIOS to make the system see the extra cores as a single processor unit.

Can you post your MB version, BIOS version please?

Thanx

Im rather frustrated so I will keep this short. Cleared the CMOS, reseated the battery and all RAM chips too. Running a dual core 2.0 GHz 800 FSB. I have a core 2 Quad 2.6 GHz 1333FSB that I tried to put in. Hits verifying DMI pool data then resets OR displays "Bootmgr is missing" blah blah blah ... Windows 7 dvd, or vista, will not load for all kinds of errors but the most common seems to be 0xc0000001 or ntkrnlpa.exe missing or corrupt yeah yeah yeah ... even with the HDD unhooked. How is that even possibly for it to know? Ive reset it, discharged it ... Im so lost ... Im running windows 7 on an EVGA 650i Ultra MOBO with the latest BIOS updated before I started all this stuff ... tried with 5 GB of RAM and with 3 GB too ... !!!!UGH!!!!! It runs perfectly fine with the dual core ... What am I doing wrong?

... Could be the 3 hours of sleep ...

Please help :-)

A:Upgrading to a quad core ISSUES!

Does your system if you boot to some other non-descript system, like a linux live CD?

Changing the processor may cause all types of problems. From what you seem to be saying, I would use the Win 7 DVD and go to the second screen and select repair and startup repair. Maybe running that 2 or 3 times would help.

When you installed the new CPU, did you set bios defaults and then check to make sure they were what you needed?

I have not changed to a new processor after an install, so I do not know what it might do.

This is gonna sound silly, but should I re-install XP after installing a Q6600 CPU in place of an E6420?

I don't think it neccasary, just reset the BIOS - but I could be wrong.

If I was swapping to another C2D, I wouldn't bother asking, but being a Quad I'm concerned Windows may not recognise it properly.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

However, after much troublshooting  (removing the battery and trying to start on just AC power, hard resetting, trying a different AC Charger, removing RAM Modules and other componenets) I still cant get it to power up. The Power LED next to where my AC adapter plugs into it wont light up either. Hi @DrexLock?,  Thank you for your update.  I grasp you have now changed the power button board and the issue remains. The light indicates power is getting to the notebook. Having replaced the power button board you know power is going to the motherboard, but it seems to end there. The next step would be to replace the motherboard.  As they tend to be expensive, you may wish to do a price comparison to see if replacing the motherboard , or purchasing a new notebook is the better option for you.   Good Luck!

Hello,

A:My HP ENVY 17-3090nr 3D Edition is refusing to install Audio Driver

Beats Audio is only a software enhancement to the basic audio chip.

The IDT is what is listed on the HP site. Are you downloading from there?
Software & driver downloads HP ENVY 17-3090nr 3D Edition Notebook PC | HP? Support

There are Intel (motherboard) chipset drivers also listed. Download and install the Intel motherboard chipset driver first and then try to install the IDT audio.

I have upgraded my HP ENVY 23 Recline Beats edition to Windows 10.  Most things works, but there is 2 critical items not functioning properly.  1. The Audio driver, especially the bass tone/subwoofer is just not there.  So there goes the primary reason that I brought the PC - for the great sound.  Already try the generic beats driver mentioned with some of the post on these boards, got beat software active but bass sounds in absence.2. The HDMI external input function is not working as well, which is the second reason why I brought this PC. I end up reverting back to windows 8.1 for the time being. Will HP release proper WIndows 10x64 driver for this machine?  It is such a great AIO, and it is just missing Video and Audio driver update.

I bought Vista Home premium only to find out that the disc only contained 32-bit software, but enclosed was a link that led me to send away for the 64-bit version. Now that I have it, can I upgrade overtop or am I going to need a clean install to get the new drivers and whatnot? Also: I've been reading some posts, and is 4gb ram really critically necessary for 64-bit?

A:Upgrading to 64 bit edition

Well, when i tried to boot from the x64 cd, the screen says Loading Windows or something like that, fills the bar, and then the screen stays black. I didn't format my drive, I don't think i need to to see the windows installation screen? I guess I won't install it until I get some feedback.

Hello, I would like to upgrade the GPU and PSU on a  HP Envy H8-1437c.  The GPU I am wanting to upgrade to is the GEFORCE GTX 970.  It is 10" in length, PCI Express 3.0,  and a dual port (or double wide?).  The PSU is  a  EVGA Supernove Nex650G.  Are there any proprietary power connectors on the current psu that I should be worried about? Am I able to upgrade the current GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 )to the GEFORCE GTX 970? Thank you very much!

Hi, I had a problem with my old HDD installed on my HP ENVY 15-j012la, so I bought a new 240 gb SSD (Crucial BX200). I replaced the HDD with the SSD, then turn the laptop ON with the USB Win10 image to install it on the SSD, but the installer didn't recognized it. I gave format to the SSD, but the problem remains. I've read that the SATA should be changed in the BIOS, but this laptop has the InsydeH20 3.7 and there's no way to change to AHCI. I would be very grateful if you could help with this issue! Best !

Schwaa, welcome to the forum. This was a very good review of how you upgraded your computer.  What you discovered are the problems that are created by a mid-size case.  It would be great if HP would offer a full size case for their gaming computers.  What you accomplished should make a major difference in performance.

I'm interested in swapping out my current HDD and replacing it with an SSD. Are there any limitations on the size of SSD I can install? Will a 1tb work or am I limited to 512gb or anything like that? Are there any complications I should be aware of while considering this upgrade? Thanks a bunch!

A:upgrading Envy m6 1125dx with SSD, are there any limitations...

See p. 48 of the Manual here: M6 service Manual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7kLMZoGoTs There is no limit to the SSD you can install other than your budget. Any 2.5 inch SATA SSD that is 7mm thick which almost all are.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6BM3T90744&cm_re=Samsung_850_Evo-_-20-147-373-_-... The Samsung Evo 850 is my choice but OCZ, Kingston, several others make a good product so as long as it is a name brand you can shop on price and there are deals to be had.  Software reinstallation/migration can be hard but if you have Windows 10 you always know you can download an install disk and you do not need a Key Code to reinstall and it will activate when you connect to the internet. Windows 10 allows you to make a system image and you can also use cloning software. Many ways to skin the cat. Post back with the inevitable follow-up questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Clear all of your files off of the computer.

Re-install XP Home.

Defrag. Check disc for errors.

Try to upgrade.

Did you refer to system requirements for XPSP2?

What are your computer specs?

Having upgraded to XP Home Edition from 98SE successfully a few months ago my PC "froze" (due to trying to install and play all 3 Harrry Potter games((sad or what?)), such that I had return my PC to it's factory settings with CDROM and floppy disk support supplied by manufacturer. Reinstalled 98SE and all was well but then after reinstalling XP Home Edition (which seemed to reinstall OK), on re-boot my screen was blank, and though the hard drive light was flickering indicating action, it hung.

PC has Pentium III 450MgHz. Fat 32. Forgotten BIOS password; PC boots from CDROM then IDE. Do not know Adminstrator password, not supplied by PC manufacturer who has gone out of business since PC purchase.

Simply put- RED Blue Screens. I don't know what I need to call them. THEY ARE RED! And they just reference "An error reading the instruction set" There is no STOP Error. I upgraded the Processor from AMD Athlon x2 5000+ to an AMD Phenom x4 9650. I have not overclocked it. In fact, first thing I did after installing it was reset CMOS.

I've checked for minidumps relating to this issue but there are none. I am running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

I've tried doing research but my results are non-conclusive.

Hello Timmah,
Everything is running OK, you drop in the new CPU, then you start getting problems.
Have you double checked all the connections and power leads, plus all the data cables ?.
Is there a Bios update that will address the issue ?, it may be worth checking the MB manufacturers site.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Just bought a new HP PC and it came with Office 2010 Starter Edition. Haven't actually used it yet, though.

I've been looking around to find out what the "upgrade" prices are to turn this into Office 2010 Home and Student -- and apparently, there aren't any.

If I understand it, the following is now the case:
1) Office 2010 Starter Edition is FREE
2) There is no "upgrade" price for other editions
3) Upgrading other editions involves paying the standard full-retail prices.

Have I got it right? Or have I missed something?

A:Upgrading Office 2010 Starter Edition

I don't recall there ever being upgrade versions of Office to go from one package to another. The only upgrades were to go from an older, previous version to another. That would make absolutely no business sense to offer a cheaper upgrade from a free product than the standard full version.

If you don't need any of the premium features, why not just use Office Live?

I am currently using a two-month old Dell computer with XP Media Center Edition as OEM Dell and some other money-hungry companies are not offering an upgrade to MCE because quot not all customers will qualify quot or something like that There is apparently some issue with Edition to 2005 Media Center Upgrading OEM drivers that will not be supported under MCE at least that's what I gather from Microsoft's Upgrading to Media Center Edition 2005 website I called Dell to ask if my system could be upgraded and that I would purchase the software myself or upgrade from Microsoft After verifying my model hard drive graphics card and memory Dell tech support said that my computer handle the upgrade I feel uneasy about this--shouldn't he have asked about more than just that hardware Finally is there a program available yet that can automatically detect your hardware drivers to see if they will be compatible with MCE Or can I just post my hardware profile here and get a response Thanks to all who reply your dedication is truly appreciated

I picked up a refurbished HP ENVY 750-137C, and am currently looking to upgrade the graphics. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want it to last me some time, so I'm looking at the Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1070.  Aside from the changes in power requirements, does anyone know if this card would be compatible, and if there are any issues to this upgrade? Also, Nvidia recommends a 500W power supply for this card. Would that be enough, or is that genrous number? Additionally, if anyone has a power supply product they would recommend for this theoretical combination, I would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks!

A:Upgrading to GTX 1070 Graphics Card for HP ENVY 750-137C

@Drifterx311?, welcome to the forum. Here are the full specs of the card on nVidia's website.  The card is double slot and 10.5" in length.  I suggest measuring from the Back I/O plate to the front of the case to see how much space is available.  I believe that it will fit, but it will be tight. As you stated, the specs recommend a 500W power supply unit (PSU).  Personally, I would buy one with at least 600W.  This will give you some extra power for peak needs.  I like Corsair products.  Here are some PSU's for you to review at Newegg.  If you choose a modular PSU it will allow you to only install the cables that are absolutely necessary.  This allows for better airflow.  The PSU is the backbone of the computer.  Read the Customer Reviews to see what users have to say about them.  A good PSU will make your system run much better. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi Business Edition Ongoing PowerChute 6.x to Problems from 7.x Upgrading Has anyone out there managed to reinstall or even upgrade their version of PowerChute Business Edition to I am seriously having problems with the upgrade I have followed most of the procedures as found on many forums but to no joy As always I get stuck at the point in which the Server component hangs during installation Last screen shows quot Creating Server Service quot and under Services unlike the Agent which says Started it would seem the Server says Starting but doesn t get to the Started status I have avoided following APC s method of removal of s w as this involves changing amp deleting entries in the registry As the Ongoing Problems Upgrading PowerChute Business Edition from 6.x to 7.x machine is which PCBE is installed is an important server I did not want to risk anything else happening to this machine esp when it comes to fiddling with the registry Also I am unable to remove using quot Add Remove Programs quot Ongoing Problems Upgrading PowerChute Business Edition from 6.x to 7.x either as the actual listed program quot APC PowerChute Business Edition Server quot has totally disappeared from Ongoing Problems Upgrading PowerChute Business Edition from 6.x to 7.x the list only Agent amp Console are listed Plus I have not even got to the stage of installing or upgrading the Console part Do you think it s worth attempting to upgrade the Console bit even thou the Server bit has only installed partially Any suggestions or ideas would be most appreciative Cheers Jade nbsp

A:Upgrading from Core 2 Duo to Quad Core won't Post

You have tried clearing CMOS ? Install the CPU then clear.
If that doesn't work then you're probably right in assuming you have a DOA CPU.

Hi all! I am not computer illiterate. I have a question for you. I am switcing from an AMD dual core 2.4GHz to a Phenom 9750 Quad core. Changing out the heatsink and fan also. Can I just swap out the CPU's and restart Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Or do I have to do a complete reinstall of the same OS? I know that I changed MOBO's or something like that, I would have to reinstall. But I'm not sure about the processors. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance!

A:Upgrading from a dual core to a quad core!

I swapped out my friends Intel E6400 Conroe for a Q9550 last week and everything was fine and runs great.
I don't see why AMD wouldn't be the same.
