Re-enable Windows 8.1 Family Safety on Dell laptop

Q: Re-enable Windows 8.1 Family Safety on Dell laptop

My laptop had already set up to turn on Family Safety in Window 8.1. So I was used to set up time limits and curfew for the standard account (child's account) in Control PanelI turned off Family Safety. When I wanted to turn it on again, Family Safety in Control Panel led me to Change PC setting to select the account to edit. But When I clicked on "Edit" and It poped up my child account but No thing to editBut there was an option to manage Safety Family on line. I enter this website to control Family safety (time limit and curfew) It worksHowever, I'd like to set up at local laptop as beforeHow to turn on Safety Family at Laptop not online?Any suggest would be appreciate.Best,Truc C. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Could you post what is your HP PC model - instructions can be seen here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108 Could you provide details about how the Family Safety feature got on ? You can contact the person who set this up and ask them for permission to install the necessary software or for the account password that manages the Windows FS feature. If you acquired the PC from someone else, please let me know and I can provide you with instructions how to reimage the PC and revert back to factory default condition

I currently have Windows 7 Professional on a laptop connected to my works domain when I am in the office. I also use this laptop at home. After installing Windows Family Safety Beta, when I try to set time limits for my daughter I get a message telling me to upgrade my OS to Windows 7. Help?

A:Windows Family Safety

You could uninstall the software, then restore your system to a date prior to your original installation.

I have used Cybersitter in the past, and it has worked well (fee-based sw).

**EDIT** Actually this message is probably coming from the sw you installed. First just uninstall it and see if the message still appears. Probably it won't.

Hello again, all.

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but I thought here would suffice.

My problem is that I have 2 computers with Windows Live Family Safety enabled, with them set to "Warn on Adult" mode. The problem is that this forces YouTube's "Safety Mode" to be stuck on, whether a user is logged into YouTube or not. Both computers affected only have administrator accounts, so I don't think lack of permission is a problem.

Any help on stopping Windows Live Family Safety forcing YouTube's safety mode to stay on (without disabling WLFS altogether - this is the only way I have managed to turn off Safety Mode), would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom.

I had to disable the web filtering service in the end. It says "When the web filter is on, SafeSearch will be locked on in Bing, Google, Yahoo! and other popular search engines" on the website, and I don't think this option can be altered.

I tried uninstalling Windows Family Safety One Care but the message that appeared is that "You must log on as administrator..." I'm logged already as administrator at that time and yet I still receive that kind of message. Another problem is that, I can't install other programs and even open other applications when another message appeared "we could not find %windir%\\system32\\rundll32.exe" Is there any remedy for my problem? Do I need to reformat my hard drive and install windows vista again? Thanks in advance...

Now when they ask permission to visit a specific site, and I need to allow that site to be visited, the only ID option which comes up is our regular email address not the ID option I entered upon registering for the account. Can anyone advise me on how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Windows Live Family Safety Sign In

Hello rose, a big welcome to you to Sevenforums!

This is the live family saftey website: https://fss.live.com/safety/default.aspx
You will need to enter the same user name and password that you use to log in to hotmail for your email, and it has to be the same one you signed up the live saftey accounts with.

This is what it looks like. You can view the activity of each member you sign up. There are more settings on the left hand side (after you click a family member) that you can change to add more security to your child.

Don't forget the settings you can change in parental controls, including adding children to the list

My mother has recently decided to remove the family safety thing from my computer so I can install programs without a password. Just one problem: She forgot the parental control password for my Windows 8 computer. She didn't write it down, the dummy!
Digs at my mom aside, I really need help with this. Whenever I reach the security confirmation screen to install the new program, I'm prompted to enter an administrative password. My mom tried changing her Windows account password, which didn't work. We
tried an online tutorial on YouTube, which turned out to be for Windows 8.1 PRO.
That didn't work, since mine is simply a regular Windows 8. I tried helping her, but when I looked at the options for parental controls on her Windows account, I didn't see an option for "prevent child from making changes to the computer."

I'd like to know whether the function to block URLs in Family Safety (part of Live Essentials) would affect Internet Explorer only or system wide (on all browsers)?

Also, if I want to block certain user accounts to view and edit a specific folder, is it possible?

A:Family Safety

Hi there linux convert, welcome to Sevenforums.

Can't comment on Family Safety, as I don't use it.

However, blocking certain user accounts from viewing/editing certain folders can certainly be done.

We have two ways of doing this, both are one pretty much the same way, but it can be done per user or by group, (which you will be familiar with I trust, from using Linux)

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll do a quick "screen by screen" tutorial on how to do it, and post it in a second

We have windows live family safety on our computer which is working fine, but I want my son to be able to play a game called Crossfire and the only way I can get it to work is by making his account an admin account and turning off family safety.

Does anyone know a way I can let him play and still be safe? If I could do half of it like not using an admin account or not having to turn off family safety it would be a start.

Thanks

A:Crossfire and family safety

What exactly is blocking him from starting the program? Is it a internet block within family safety or is the program being blocked all together? If you can add an exception, that might help.

It may be that his standard account doesn't give him access to a program or file needed to run Crossfire. You could find those file(s) and add your son's account to full access for those files.

Without knowing exactly what is stopping Crossfire from opening, there's no real way to diagnose what needs to be done in order to have it work. However, if it works w/ Family Safety on in an Admin account then it's likely that the standard account isn't giving access to the required files. To test this, turn the admin account's family safety policy to the same as the son's account and then try to run the program from within the admin account. If it runs, then it has to do with access to files/folders/uac. If it doesn't work, then something in Family Safety is blocking it from running.

I had to put my birthday instead of hers otherwise it told me a parent had to create the account (maybe that's contributing to my issues). I logged into her account, pulled up IE and started surfing all over the web successfully =(. I have family safety set up on a child's account, with web filtering at the highest level.

I allowed google.com, because I needed the google drive desktop app, and it couldn't connect until I allowed google.com.

The problem is that google+ and chrome store are accessible (using chrome browser), even though I specifically blocked them.

How can I allow the google drive desktop app to function, but still block google+?

I would also like to block the chrome store, if possible.

A:family safety -- block google+

Hi shmu. I understand your dilemma, but just to let you know > I don't use Google, so I may be limited. Would it be possible to allow the child to just use IE. Leave no links to any google on the Start Screen. Unpin the Windows Store app tile and any other tile for that matter. You would have to help set everything up there as you probably know.

If that does not suffice, I see you have 8.1 Pro so there is Group Policy which I think may work, although more setup time. Type it in search to open. I feel I'm not qualified to help with this aspect, though. There are help files and would be willing to learn and help you.

OK, so this title might be a little vague, but here's the problem.

I re-built an older HP computer with Windows 8.1, and have Family Safety set up on it, Web Filtering, Curfew, etc.

Through my login on www.FamilySafety.Microsoft.com, I am able to adjust settings for that computer to tell the user their time is up...

Unfortunately, the computer, set to tell the user to log off at 9PM, is telling the user before 6 PM, that they have 15 minutes left.

I have checked from the admin account and the Child user's account, what the clock is, timezone, etc.

I'm completely baffled as to why this is happening, but I need help.

A:Family Safety settings not correct?

so tell family safety to log off at 12am as ther appears to be a 3 hour time zone differance

Hi and welcome to TSF You need to have a user account with administrative privileges on your computer. To give yourself administrative privileges, you can either log on to the computer with the username "Administrator" (and its password), or use another account that you know has Administrator permissions.

To find out which permissions your user account has:
Click Start on the Windows taskbar, then click Control Panel.
Double-click User Accounts. The listings in the Group category will tell you what kind of permissions your current account has.

Hello friends,
I am trying to use family safety options in windows 8 enterprise 9200 no users are Microsoft account.
it is all local account (the administrator and the standard).
every thing is working good time limits, app limit except web filtering I don't know why any one have an idea?
I set the web filtering to child but the user still can open sex websites. any body can help?

A:Family safety web filtering not working

Hello stlony,

I find that most filters are not very effective with those type of settings since it doesn't help if the site doesn't comply with the ratings standard. This is a bit more work on your part, but I find that using step 8 Option One in the tutorial below to set the filter to only allow access to sites that you have listed. This way they can't go anywhere that's not on the list.
Family Safety Web Filtering - Set and Manage in Windows 8
If need be, the standard user can send you requests to add sites to the list as well to help make it easier for them and you.

Hope this helps,

Every month or so, Family Safety will lose its connection with the service, in a manner of speaking. The computer reports no problems: it claims everything is being monitored like normal and all accounts are linked. The Family Safety website shows all restrictions, but no activity monitoring. No restrictions are *actually* being applied to the computer either--my brother is limited to 30 minutes per day, but the computer doesn't enforce or recognize that.

Is there a way to "reconnect" the computer with Family Safety? The only way I was able to solve this in the past was by completely reinstalling Windows, but that's ridiculous.

Family safety is not working on either of my daughter's laptops. I have spent hours trying to rectify the problem and I have spoken to numerous techs who haven't been able to help me. My last conversation concluded with the problem is endemic to windows 8. I have tried numerous solutions and have followed the tutorials to the letter and all the settings appear as they should be according to the instructions. It is doing my head in. Can this be fixed or is it a problem within windows 8???

Am assuming this is an MS Server side issue but tonight my two children logged into their accounts on the PC. They have child accounts. Absolutely no issues using the machine, browsing etc. I then logged back into my main acc after. As I was checking a few things I went into reliability history and noted two messages for each time my children logged into their accounts saying 'family safety monitor stopped working'. I guess most don't check or will notice but wondered if anyone had picked up on the same?

We didn't see any adverse affects but I was more curious than anything else about this little anomaly

Clue me in.....

Does the windows 10 family Safety, actually allow you to block all apps except for the ones you allow your child to run?

It's not clear from their site verbiage on whether you can only block apps that show in the "recent history" (ie run at least once), or even if it's only MS store bought apps.

(FYI: you could do this in Win7)

thanks.

Hello all,

I am new here so I'll explain as well as I can.

I am administrator using admin account/.

I have locked several drives from the guest account using security tab in properties.

I installed family safety and windows live was set to auto complete the password.

Now when I use the internet in Guest profile the family safety scanner auto completes.

I want the guest profile locked down.

The auto complete is disabled as admin however this is not transferring to the guest account.

Hopefully its an oversight and will not be too complex to solve.

A:Family safety with user profile accounts

Someone may have a better idea but how about disabling the Guest account and creating a Standard user account (can create as many as needed) for each person using the computer. Then you can use Vista's built in Parental Controls,

Parental Controls - Setup and Use

to control what each account has access too.

We have several user accounts setup on each of our machines including some child accounts. We have noticed for the last 3 days that when logging into our child accounts that the little family safety icon that normally resides in the system tray in bottom right has been missing in action. A quick check in reliability history reports that 'family safety monitor' stopped working everytime we logged into a child acc consistently for three days solid. As this is happening on all our machines I presume it's not a local issue but an MS server side issue. I just wondered if anyone else uses child accounts and are noticing the same?

I use windows 10 family safety and am generally happy with it. However there is either a bug or a feature with screen time.
I have 3 devices that my kids can log on to using their own windows 10 account. Screen time is set to 3 hours per day. Family safety correctly shuts down access to the device after three hours. However, the kid can then switch to a different device and have another 3 hours. Ie screen time appears to be per device, not per account as i would have thought it should be.

When I open it's properties there and select the 'Trace Session' tab uncheck enabled and click apply I get access denied. Okay, I bought a new laptop recently, and I have a problem. Almost every game I try to play says, "AGP is not enabled....", and it tells me its needed for best performance. How do I enable it? I googled it, and I couldnt find anything, so I decided to ask here. My system specs are:

Computer Maker: TOSHIBA
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.70GHz
Memory: 1014MB RAM
Hard Drive: 200 GB
Video Card: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM

Thanks

A:How do I enable AGP on my Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset family card?

From what I've read, you have an onboard graphics card(on your motherboard) I'm not sure if you have just that onboard card, or if you just have another card. If so, you could go into your BIOS(usually delete/f1/f2 at startup, one of those keys) read through it a bit. I know that sometimes there's an 'enable AGP' option, or anything that looks like it.

However, it doesn't look like you have an AGP card in your laptop.
Check that out first though. You might also want to check if you have the correct drivers for your card installed. On a side notenboard cards aren't very good for games, but they might handle a few.

Now that it's nagged me so much that I (foolishly) activated it, is there any way to get rid of it? I tried using the "turn off till I turn you on meself" button - but this only lasts while the computer is on. If the computer has been off, and is started, it needs to be logged into before you can get on to the internet. My OH came home early and tried to access the internet but couldn't because it wanted my windows live ID and password. One of the kids had the same problem.

So can I permanently get rid of it?

Hi -

Boot into Recovery using your Vista DVD or the HDD recovery partition and try "system repair". If no-go, boot back into Recovery and run "Windows System Restore" - choose a restore point far enough back before the trouble started.

Once you get the system to boot, copy important personal files off and reinstall Vista.

A:Family issues - Dad's Dell

Let's try this before you do that. you can always relaod XP later. Be sure to back up files you want to keep before you do

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the desktop. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):

C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliKeep.exe
C:\Program Files\Ylnwgh\Alnp.exe
C:\windows\msbb.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\ifuq\ifuqm.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\ifuq\ifuqa.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Admilli Service
1800 Solutions
Web Rebates

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

A:How To Enable Firewall For Windows Xp Pro On A Laptop

1394 connection:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307736If you don't have two or more computers connected through this port (with a firewire type cable) then you are not using it and I wouldn't worry about it. The wireless connection that you are not using (wouldn't worry about it either). The firewall should most definately be set-up on your LAN...This is where you are connected to the internet.

A:Laptop infected, can't enable antivirus/windows firewall

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.    Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page.Caution: This is a beta version so please be sure to read the disclaimer and back up any important data before using.Double click the mbar.zip file to open it, then 'Extract all files'.Double click the mbar folder to open it, then double click mbar.exe to start the tool.Check for Updates, then Scan your system for malwareIf malware is found, do NOT press the Cleanup button yet. Click EXIT.I'd like to see the log first so I can see what it sees. You'll find the log in that mbar folder as MBAR-log-***.txt . Please attach that to your next reply.

I'm about to go on a three week road-trip (from Tahoe to San Diego via Vancouver).

I'd like to bring my laptop and have it available in the car. Are power inverter's safe to use with laptops?

The one I have says it will give me up to 100 Watts. I have an HP Pavilionzv5000 and I'm running Windows XP.

Also... anyone with any roadtripping expereince know of a way to look up internet cafe's? Sure would be convenient to have free hotspots mapped out somewhere.
just a thought.

Thanks

When I attempt to start my laptop it goes to the Dell logo screen and will not boot Windows 8. Any suggestions?
I've had the computer less than a month and if I have to restore the system completely it will not cause much of a problem.

Thanks for the help in advance!

A:Dell Laptop w/ Windows 8 won't boot past dell logo screen

Hello Univers789,
Re-installing windows is the last resort. So before doing that, you can try the steps mentioned below which might fix the issue. 1. Restart the laptop and start tapping the F2 key at the Dell logo for enter the BIOS. 2. Navigate to the “Advanced” menu. 3. Change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from Intel Smart Response to AHCI. 4. Press F10 to save changes and exit. 5. Reboot the system. 6. Go back into the BIOS by tapping the F2 key and change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from AHCI to Intel Smart Response. 7. Save changes and exit by pressing the F10 key. 8. Reboot the system and it should boot normally into Windows. In case the above steps don’t fix the issue, run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action. Please write back with results.

I just bought a brand new Dell laptop. I was told its not good to keep it on while its in my laptop protective briefcase because of overheating. Well my question is - is it okay to pull the screen down, let it automatically go into stand by mode and then put it into the case? The reason I want to do this is because it's such a hassle sitting in one class, shutting it down, putting it in the laptop briefcase, going to my next class then booting it up again....this process over and over all day is so inconvenient.

Thanks,
Mancow

I have a dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1, 64 bit. The hard drive went out so I replaced it with one out of an old Acer Aspire running the same Windows 7 version. It accepted my Windows Activation as genuine, however, my system information shows that is is still an Acer Aspire and my Mobile Intel 4 Series Family Chipset won't recognize the driver. The Properties of the chipset shows this message "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

Please help!

A:Mobile Intel Chipset4 Series Family won't work on Dell Inspiron 1545

This is appearing as a Acer because it contains the OEM Windows 7 installation with all of the Acer bloatware.

You made a mistake which probably will necessitate a fresh installation of Windows.  The motherboard has identifiers that Windows recognizes the first time it is started for the first time in the computer.  When you move a hdd to another computer with a different motherboard it will see a different set of identifiers which can cause the hdd to either not boot the operating system or create problems like you are experiencing.

In the future, when you go to move a drive with Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, or Windows 10 you need to generalize the operating system.  This will remove all of the current identifiers.

If you run sysprep on the HHD/SSD with Windows 7 or 8.1 before using it with another motherboard you should be be able to boot from it without any complications. You want to remove all hardware identifiers from the HDD/SSD, this generalizes the drive.

Click on the Start orb, then type cmd in the Search box.

cmd will appear under Programs above the search box, right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

This will open the Elevated Command Prompt.

In the Elevated Command Prompt type in CD C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep, then
use the command: sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown.

Don't power the drive back on until it's in the other computer.

Note: You'll want to install the new motherboard chipset drivers for the new motherboard after moving the drive.

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. Will it allow you to press F2 key at the Dell Logo to boot into the Bios to check if the hard drive is getting detected?
If it allows you, press the F12 key at the Dell Logo, select Diagnostics and run an extended diagnostics on your computer. Post back with any error codes.

None of the links shown in your post are active. I have three HP notebook cordsets with the LS-15 Marking, and I don't have any other compatable cords at the moment since these are the first IEC 60320 C-5 (Mickey) cordsets we have. All the rest are IEC 60320 C-13 cordsets which seem to be more prevalant in the USA. What is the timeframe for getting the replacement cordsets and the links working? What is specific warning signs of possible trouble with the cordset?

Well someone was on the computer checking emails and all the fake virus messages came back so i ran the read and run again and have the logs.

see if you can help me out getting it cleaned for good! thanks in advance anyone really appreciate the help always.

logs attached if anything is wrong or any step needs to be re-done just post up!

A:Trying To Clean Family Laptop

I'm not seeing any issues in the logs but let's run the below just to be safe.
Now please run the below anti-rootkit tool from Malwarebytes.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit
If you happened to get a ZIP file version instead of an EXE file then unzip the contents to a folder in a convenient location.
Open the folder where you saved Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to. Now run mbar-1.07.0.1009.exe ( If running Vista, Win7 or Win 8, use right click and Select Run As Administrator )
Note: This filename will change as new versions are released, so this is just an example ).

Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
If no additional threats were found, verify that your system is now running normally, making sure that the following items are functional:
Internet access
Windows Update
Windows Firewall

If there are additional problems with your system, such as any of those listed above or other system issues, then run the 'fixdamage' tool included with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and reboot.
Verify that your system is now functioning normally.

There will now be two log files created in the mbar folder called system-log.txt and one that starts with mbar-log. The mbar-log file will always start with mbar-log, but the rest will be named using a timestamp indicating the time it was run. For example, mbar-log-2012-11-12 (19-13-32).txt corresponds to mbar-log-year-month-day (hour-minute-second).txt. The system-log.txt contains information about each time you have run MBAR and contains diagnostic information from the program. A new mbar-log is created every time you run MBAR and will contain information about what was detected and removed. Please attach these logs.

My wife used the laptop during the superbowl; she doesn't like football. Anyway, the next morning I went to boot it up and got a BSOD. I am using Windows 7. It said that it could not log on or boot(I forgot which one) but it said click repair to attempt to go to an earlier date. I eventually got booted up. Not feeling comfortable, I went to run MBAM and it said unable to execute. So, I restarted to safe mode, updated MBAM, ran it and it found nothing. Any advice? THANKS!
PS: Last week wife was searching for a coupon and and a FAKE virus alert popped up. I told her not to touch anything and we closed that window, immediately ran MBAM and it found nothing. THANKS!

A:Wife Possibly infected the Family Laptop

It's very important to write down the full message & codes on a BSOD - it would help later IF the BSOD issue became persistent. I'd advise you get your antivirus app updated and do a full scan of the system. And to also run MBAM in Normal mode, after using the Update (on MBAM Update tab), and do a Quick scan.

It is enabled in the BIOS and I went to the Dell website and downloaded the Dell Bluetooth software and it prompted me to enable it by pressing (FN + F2) and that turned off my wireless card and did not turn on the Bluetooth. I looked inside the Control Panel and did not see an option for Bluetooth Devices. Please assist.

Hi Anak,

If the laptop can't see the SSID even though it's broadcasting, have you tried to manually add the SSID from the laptop? Removing all the wireless network profiles stored might help, then manually add the SSID.

Also, sometimes depending on the Wi-Fi adapter, some doesn't hand shake well with the wireless security. You may try to do a test by removing the encryption from the router and see if the laptop can connect, then try WEP, WPA to WPA2. Updating the Wi-Fi-Adapter's driver might also help which you have already advised. Make sure that the laptop has the latest SP installed.

An update will be nice.

Hey We of in middle Family bootup. dead laptop stops ve got a Toshiba Laptop that I ve fixed in various ways over the years by googling any problems usually finding that somebody else has already posted and somebody else has solved it Always been thankful for this Now for the first time I ve come across something that nobody else Family laptop stops dead in middle of bootup. seems to have had fixed by the Family laptop stops dead in middle of bootup. collective tech network of the Web Problem Bootup begins by powering on Toshiba screen displays quot Press F for system utilities press F for Boot Menu quot as usual should usually go to a windows XP Home loadup screen Instead the screen goes to a black-and-gray console screen with the letter quot j quot and a flashing cursor in the top left The only keys that do anything from here are Ctrl-alt-del which restart the same process from the Toshiba Screen System Utilities or Boot Menu doesn t seem to help I know I want to boot from the HDD I select this and it still ends in an innocuous letter quot j quot and no signs of further booting All the components seem to be present in System Utilities My HDD is definitely there Upon Googling quot bootup letter j quot I find that this is most often experienced when you re booting Windows or Ubuntu from a USB stick both of which seem exotic to me We re just booting Windows XP from the HDD same as we have Changes made before the problem None major A new external power adaptor the usual box-and-cord was put into use - days before the problem showed up Some unused personal files were deleted two weeks ago clearing about of the hard drive That s about it Any ideas and anything I can further provide I think some other people have had this problem If a fix is provided here it d probably be referred to by a lot of thankful people Thanks

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1. I found few of my softwares incompatible in it. So I preferred installing Windows XP SP2 removing Vista. I succeeded. I tried installing drivers.
The error message popped when installing "Dell Wireless 1515 (11agn) WLAN half mini-Card(Atheros) Rev:A01" was as below:

"Dell Wireless 1515 Adapter Device Not Found
The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system.
Aborting the install, please insert the card and try the installer again."

I thought it cud be BIOS configuration problem. But cudn't figure it out.
Please help asap!

A:cudn't enable wifi in Dell Inspiron 1545

and welcome to the Forum

Where did you get the driver? . . Did you install the Notebook Software and Chipset first?

You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers

See this for the order they should be installed:

Hallo!I own a Dell Inspiron 6400.My internal DVD-R/W got spoilt so I bought an external USB DVD-R/W.

I would like to make the external USB DVD-R/W the first bootable device so that I can use it to boot installation CDs eg Windows XP CD.

So far I have been unable to set the BIOS settings to do this. How can I achieve it.

Hello all,

I recently installed Windows 7 x64 onto my Dell Latitude D630 and found that the scrolling with the touchpad does not work at all. I have already downloaded and installed the Synaptics driver and nothing happened. I also downloaded R165804.exe directly from Dell's site and it came up with an error saying that 'the software does not work on your operating system. Click OK to exit.'

What now?

A:How to Enable Scrolling on Dell Latitude D630 Touchpad?

The Dell downloads do not show a touchpad driver for Vista 64 bit. Just the one you have which is listed for Vista 32 bit only.

Try installing that in a compatibility mode and see if that will help.

You can also post on the Dell laptop forum and maybe someone there will have something for you. Officially Dell does not support Win 7 on this model, although Vista drivers should work OK.

Hi,
I just got a new Precision 7510 and can't figure out how to get it to enable numlock automatically on boot.
I checked the BIOS and that is enabled already.
I would like this as I am running WIndows 10 and it is setup to login with a numeric PIN.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Jim

When will Dell enable Intel Speed Shift via a BIOS update? All the BIOS update requires is requires is writing 1 to MSR 0x770!
Speed Shift was fully supported by Intel and Microsoft in 2015 (1 year ago!). It makes the CPU much more responsive (particularly in gaming and real-time tasks) and costs nothing.
In the meantime, anyone can run software manually to enable Speed Shift but you need to relaunch the software every time your computer sleeps or turns off, so that is inconvenient. But the boost in performance is worth the effort.
I have manually enabled SpeedShift via software such as ThrottleStop or just writing 1 to MSR 0x770.
Dell - can you get Speed Shift into the next BIOS revision?!?!

I have a Dell D400, uses the Intel GM 855 and I'm wondering if can do any hacks to forcibly enable Aero?

Any help would be great, thanks.

Oh, on a side note, I found the little hack for Vista on how you enable it but it doesn't seem to be working for me in Windows 7.

Maybe there is another method?

Im assuming you have the latest intel driver? I have a dell as well and the dell driver doesn't work. Are you 32bit or 64?

A:Enable UEFI on Dell Optiplexs using SCCM Task Sequence

So while I understand what you want to do, i'm not sure what you want to do if that makes sense.  I will add my 2 cents in however.  From everything i've read, UEFI uses GPT as the file table for the HDD while BIOS uses MBR.  My first thought would be if you are using UEFI on a hard drive that is formatted to MBR, maybe it cannot read it as a boot drive?  I have heard that UEFI can see it as a file drive, but nothing has been said about booting from MBR if you are using UEFI.
