Preferred Solution: I want to restore my laptop to factory reset.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When i try factory resetting it says 'preparing' shortly after it says 'there was a problem while resetting your PC' and under it says 'No changes were made' and under that it says 'check problem for solution' and i click it and it exits out itself and nothing happens. i need to restore my laptop to factory settings because it has gone so slow and wont let me go out applications but when it does it freezes and is very slow message edited by HarrisZaman

A:i try to factory reset/restore my laptop but it wont let me

Do you really need to use Factory Restore, which loses all your own files? Maybe it would be best to tackle the slowness. As often as not (but not always) this is due to malware. I would suggest running these three small freebies which are safe and well used on Malware forums. They often unearth what your anti-virus can miss:AdwCleaner:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Cleaning" button.Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run JRT. It might appear to have stopped at times or flash the screen but sit tight until it has finished.MalwareBytes:http://filehippo.com/download_malwa...(green Download button top right - not anything else on the page)Install and Run the program but before doing its Scan go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and put a checkmark in "Scan for rootkits". Quarantine anything it finds. Please copy/paste the logs on here. Even if the symptoms go away further checks might be necessary to ensure your computer is properly clean. Also let us know if there is any improvement afterwards.EDIT:If you can't run them Save the download files on another computer then transfer them over to the one giving trouble using a flash drive.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hello, I have a problem with my laptop Sony VAIO E Series - SVE151G11L. Everything works fine, but when I try to restore it to factory settings, I get a BSOD.
The laptop is running Windows 8 and when I shut it down and press the Assist button it boots in "Vaio Care - Rescue Mode", then I choose "Recover and maintain
your system" to restore it to factory settings, but I get a BSOD error saying:
Your PC needs to be repaired
Error code: 0xc000000f
The laptop didn't came with installation media or recovery tools. Please, if someone knows how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having multiple issues with my HP Pavilion g6 laptop-(4yrs old)-----I've done a little research and want to "wipe it clean to the day I bought it"---what's the difference in the three? I've already saved my personal files externally, so I've nothing to lose on it. I realize it's a several step process--recommend any links? thanks much

A:Factory Restore V Factory Reset V System Recovery

Factory Restore is to the state it was when you first got it.
You will then need to run 4 years worth of Windows Updates bit by bit - don't be tempted to allow Windows to update them all in one go. Choose them in block of say 10, chronologically, restarting the system carefully each time.

A:Restore my windows 7 to its factory reset

Hi

Please take a look at the bottom of your laptop and check whether there is a COA sticker like the below one.

If yes, you can use the key printed on that sticker to perform a clean installation. Please refer the detailed guide written by "gregrocker" for more info.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

The guide covers everything you need to know and includes download links for legal versions of Windows 7. Make sure to download the exact edition of Windows 7 image which will be printed on the sticker ( ie Pro means Professional ). After performing the clean install, use phone based activation as online activation is not supported for OEM installations.

What is going on and how can I do the reset

A:Factory restore/reset will not complete

I'm assuming you're trying to reset from Update & Security(Recovery/Reset This PC)? If yes, I'd suggest you try from Advanced Startup. Please go back to Update & Security, click on Recovery, and then Advanced Startup( Restart now). Stroll down to Troubleshoot, click on it, and then Reset this PC.

Hi,
I just purchased a new XPS 9350 computer and when I was trying to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro something went wrong. I ended up deleting all the partitions of my hard disk including all recovery etc. Now I downloaded the factory image from Dell website for my model and successfully installed. However I thought after installation that drivers would have been also installed. This was not the case. All drivers were missing including network driver.
Is this normal. How come all drivers were missing from that image file?

Thank you for your support.

After a successful factory reset and restore via Windows Backup/Restore, I'm missing a couple important programs (Adobe Acrobat; Paperport). Everything else seems to have restored properly. Is there still a chance these two are lurking on my backup Seagate external drive and, if so, how can I root them out (a simple search yields nothing)

Any ideas out there????

A:Lost Programs after Factory Reset/Restore Dell Inspiron/Windows 7

I would not think so as Windows backup on 7 does not back up programs - only the system image does that.

Windows 7 backup
Windows Backup won't back up the following items:
Program files (files that define themselves as part of a program in the registry when the program is installed).
Files stored on hard disks that are formatted using the FAT file system.
Files that are in the Recycle Bin.
Temporary files on drives smaller than 1 GB

Adobe of course if it was the free version is not a problem as you can simply download it
Paperport if it was this
http://shop.nuance.co.uk/store/nuan...Currency.GBP?gclid=CMb2p8DWjsICFesBwwodG7AALg
is problem and the only possible solution I see if you still have any details of the purchase is to contact Nuance and see what they may offer you

Acer normally has a click here to begin that process under a certain subdirectory. Because my Acers no longer carry that hidden partition or the acess menu -- I can't remember where that menu was. c:\program files or c:\program files (x86) might be places to start, if such have not been overwritten yet.

Hello, I already have my important docs and files saved to external storage devices, so I am trying to reset my laptop to factory settings. The problem is, my F8 and F11 keys do NOT work. As in, they are no longer functional. I have several keys on my laptop that do not work due to several incidents over the years and unfrtunately, these two are part of that group. It is a Dell Inspiron E1705. I also do not hav the original discs that came with the laptop. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

A:How do I factory reset my Dell laptop?

If the hard drive has a Recovery Partition in Disk Managment you may be able to get it to boot using the bootable version of Partition Wizard and setting the Recovery Partition as Active. You need to burn the iso file with either Imgburn or Isoburner. Reboot the computer and the Recovery Partition may boot but sometimes this workaround does not work. When you set the Recovery Partition as Active make sure your System Partition is not also set to Active. If this does not work in order to get the computer to boot back to XP change your System Partition to Active.

You don't tell us the model but on most HP laptops you can access a recovery partition and program by tapping F11 as you power up. Not sure this will work if an admin password is set. But it should since that just blocks changing BIOS settings. If you want more help we will need the model number and version of Windows

Hi guys,

I recently got my old gaming laptop repaired (it has a dodgy charging port that has broken 3 times now). It had been sitting gathering dust for over a year but i fancied playing Pillars of eternity.

Got the thing repaired and decided to do a factory reset as it was full of crap i don't use and wanted to start from scratch. However, after the reset everything seems incredibly slow and unresponsive. Ive run various virus checkers and programs to check the memory and hdd but everything comes up fine? I'm not sure what else to look at.
Curiously, games (such as Pillars of Eternity or Chivalry) seem to run fine but have unbearable load times.
If anyone has an idea of what to do next i would greatly appreciate it.

Hello. I have a Lenovo G500s Touch laptop running windows 8 with 6gb of ram and 1tb hard drive. When I first got the computer it worked great but it started to slow down. I used to be able to run Guitar Hero 3 at full speed, but now its quite laggy, and doing anything on the computer lags. I think I have enough RAM. I ran antivirus, antimalware, and it didnt speed it up so I decided to do a windows 8 refresh, which restores to factory settings, and removes all programs, but keeps media files but my computer didnt speed back up. What should I do?

so i decided to switch back to my original windows 7 through acer e-recovery management . Now the issue is that i can not perform factory reset . when ever i click on that i generally get an error that i need to clean all my files from hard disk as it will not perform the task , although i have no files on my laptop as i took a backup of my files and deleted them from the laptop.
I am unable to understand what is the issue

A:How to i reset my laptop to factory setting

The process is different among the different brands and not having an Acer can't advise as to what theirs is. However, if you have nothing on it you want to keep you should be able to continue with a full factory restore, should be a prompt to do so. I've found in a similar situation that having made the discs when prompted was easier than doing it from a backup process.

So I'm trying to factory reset my laptop to no avail. I am trying to do it through windows PC settings but the app will not open and instead, it gives me an error. I have uploaded the screenshot with the error. I'm unsure if its malware or something but I really want to reset everything.

My internet has been super slow and we already had a tech guy come in from my ISP which they found something but are unsure if its what's causing my incredibly slow speed. I'd rather just try and figure out if its something in my computer (I've tried running a few things that takes a long time to download but they had not detected anything).

Due to my inspiron15 Dell laptop running extremely slow, I did a factory reset to original factory settings. It worked fine and the laptop came with Windows 8. I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 using the free one still available from Microsoft for people who use disability functions (my mum uses magnifications). However, when turning on it gets stuck on the Dell Logo page with no bar underneath. I have attempted another factory restore as I have managed to get it to run automatic repair but it says that the partition has changed and there is no restore point to work from and won't let me continue. Can you please suggest what I may do to fix this problem?

This isn't really a problem, more of a curiosity. I tried to ask this once but my question kind of disappeared into the void. So I factory reset my asus laptop with windows 10 just a few days ago. About 10-15 minutes ago I noticed (ashamed that I didn't notice this sooner) that my background picture was the exact same as before the factory reset. This is a picture that I downloaded from my Facebook and set as my background. There's no sign of this picture still being saved. It's not in the Pictures file or anywhere else that I can find. So I'm just wondering how/why is it still the background picture even though it should have been deleted when I reset my laptop?

It's because you have a setting attached to your Microsoft account to sync personalization settings. So things like lockscreen settings, background settings, and theme settings are all attached to the account. Since you use the same Microsoft account to log into the laptop after you reset it, it used the personalization settings associated with that account.

Hi all,  we did a factory reset on our laptop,  but now windows 10 will not install. We got a message "computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered unexpected error."   Found a proposed solution to "SHIFT-F10 to bring up command prompt. type: CD C:\windows\system32\oobe,  type msoobe".   Was able to start initial installation procedure,  but the installation seems to 'hang'.   Any advise or help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a dell inspiron 1000. Older model, runs windows xp. I just simply want to reset to factory settings but am not sure of what key combonation to use. Ive called dell, they wont help because my warranty is up and they asked me to pay 50 dollars for a month warranty. Id much rather donate such an amount to someone more grateful. Also being that it is a laptop it also is having a battery recalibration problem, wondering if it needs a new battery or if thats even possible. Starting to feel completly helpless with these simple problems, if anyone could help id be forever grateful.

I have a Gateway Z06 laptop with Windows 7. It got some sort of virus that I couldn't remove no matter what I did. I had no other option but to reset the laptop, but when I started the Windows Boot Manager I got messages saying the following programs were corrupted:

winload.exe 0xc0000428
memtest.exe 0xc000000f

I've seen comments saying that I need to insert the Windows 7 CD, but my laptop came with the OS already installed. What can I do?

I did a factory reset on my Toshiba satellite L500 laptop, prior to doing this I copied and pasted the folders from my C drive over to an external 4tb Seagate drive.
Suffice it to say, I didn't check the external drive to make due everything was there prior to my doing the factory reset!
Once the laptop was taken back to original factory settings, I discovered that the files and files were ask in the external drive with the exception of one folder!!

Is it possible to get this folder back?

Is win 7 64 bit.

Thanks

A:Factory reset laptop Lost folder HELP!

Not likely. The factory reset rewrites the C: drive.

Try using a data recovery program. I've had good luck with EaseUS Data Recovery. Perform a scan and see if the folder/files can be found.

Don't get your hopes up, and the more the laptop is used, the more likely the data will not be found.

Hello I'm having some major problems with my laptop and other issues after factory reset new on HDD laptop BSOD, I was hoping for some troubleshooting assistance A short history first You can skip BSOD, other issues after factory reset on new laptop HDD down to the bold if you don't think you need any context A few weeks ago I started getting regular BSoD not the one I'm reporting now on my Acer laptop as well as errors when attempting to write to the drive followed by the dreaded 'click of doom' I knew I was dealing with a failing hard drive so I immediately purchased a new one and backed up data manually I also keep a regular backup via Acronis The BSOD, other issues after factory reset on new laptop HDD new hard drive arrived I hooked BSOD, other issues after factory reset on new laptop HDD it in and attempted to restore the full Acronis backup No good backup corrupt Of course I don't have another one that's way too smart for me Fine I think - I'll use Acronis' drive clone to copy everything over directly since the failing hard drive still has some spins left That didn't work either as Acronis gets totally jacked up when it has to talk to bad sectors At this point I switched to Clonezilla which 'worked' but did what I found out over another eight hours of troubleshooting was nearly irreparable damage to the MBR or file structure on the fresh drive The only thing I could do with the new drive at this point was run Acer's factory reset from the recovery partition which somehow arrived intact on the new drive So I did that and miraculously it worked I began transferring files back over from my manual backup and reinstalling programs starting with Steam and World of Warcraft which were what originally crashed and gave me some early warning of the impending HDD failure So I fire up WoW Bam blue screen within two minutes Different one than I had before and the logs don't show any signs of HDD failure redux In fact further testing and delving leads me to believe I'm dealing with either a driver problem or a VBIOS problem my system specs are way way good enough to run WoW at high settings and get - fps but I was getting around the next time I tried opening it I haven't gotten any other BSoD since the first one but I've noticed visual aberrations when viewing multimedia surfing or doing homework that weren't present before I tried updating my ATI driver but the little utility they make you run before you can even download the driver tells me I don't have a compatible card I do I'm out of my depth at this point and I'm hoping a trained eye can look at the logs attached and tell me what I should try next Thanks so much for any help you can provide

I have an old Dell Vostro laptop and I think it may work if reformated.  It has no disks and I belive Dell has a function to reset to when it came from the factory.  Could someone please tell me how?

Thank you.

A:How to reset Dell Vostro laptop to factory

What operating system do you have and what is the exact model? Usually to do a factory reset after powering on the machine you would start tapping F8, this will take you to a boot options menu, select the repair option and let it load. This should take you to a screen with several options. With dell, usually the bottom option will be dell factory restore (or something similar to this), use your arrow keys or mouse to select the dell restore options and follow the instructions. In some cases dell will offer the option to backup your data before restoring (if you do not want the data select no).

Make sure you do backup your data first before doing the factory reset. I do not trust any factory backup procedure, I always backup my data and verify it before formatting etc.

A:Dell laptop factory reset problem

Unfortunately, a Dell computer with XP does not give you the Restore to Factory settings. That only applies to newer Dell computers, unless you have a Restore CD in your collection? If not, you can try to contact Dell https://www.dell.com/support/diagnos...t=y&redirect=2, but since it is XP, they probably won't help you.
You can purchase one from Ebay or Craigslist,

How do I get my aspire E 15 laptop to come back on after accidently turning off during factory resetmessage edited by shirleebaby35

A:accidentally turned off my laptop during factory reset

Since the Factory Restore partition is its own partition, I would suggest trying to do the factory restore over again from scratch. This is usually triggered by tapping one or more keys during boot up which tells the BIOS to boot to the recovery partition instead of the normal way.Check back in case others have other suggestions but if this does not work, you may need to get a recovery disk set from mfg. to reinstall everything. They might charge you a small fee for this though. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

edit: i have also tried hitting f8 at startup and selecting repair computer, which eventually takes me to system recovery options, but the toshiba recovery wizard does not show up as an option. iv been looking at other forums and someone said that "It won't go to the Toshiba Recovery menu if the Toshiba Recovery partition is deleted or corrupted."  is that likely the case here?
fyi, i am able to navigate the desktop so the pc is running, alebit slowly

If the Partition for Recovery is missing or damaged you may have to order recovery disc`s  from Toshiba { At a Cost }.

You can see if the Recovery Partiton is actually there ?
Control Panel /   Administrative Tools / ComputerManagement  / Disc Management
If it is , it shoud be about 10 - 20 Gig in size and named Recovery.

As you have already tried from F8 to enter recovery , you may also try from Start / Programs / Toshiba Folder / Recovery / if its listed.

If all else Fails , provided you have a valid Product Key on laptop , you coould download Operating System ISO and burn to disc and Install.
This will not have Drivers or Toshiba Apps , you will have to get them later , if you wish to have them.

As you have been using your Notebook on your lap without a Cooler, which has caused overheating, you now have damaged parts which will need replacing.

I just had to do a factory reset of my Dell XPS M1530 which is running Vista Home Premium. Once I set my wireless access back up I had two popup from Norton AV saying they wanted internet access. One was UninstallTB.exe and the other imsmudlg.exe.

What I found with google shows uninstallTB.exe to be malware but not much has come up with imsmudlg.exe. What are these programs? Are they harmful? If so, what is the best way to get rid of them?

My laptop is running really slow and I am wanting to reset it all. It is quite old and I just want to reset it and see if that helps.

A:acer laptop factory reset windows vista

Please post the model number of your computer. From your spec I assume it is still an Acer but we need the number in order to be sure we give you the correct reset procedure. I trust you realise you will lose everything of your own and be back to the as bought condition.Very often slowness is due to malware. I would recommend you first run these three free programs in the order given, rather than going straight for reset:AdwCleaner:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. If any of them find anything, please copy/paste the logs on here because even if the symptoms are cured you are likely to still have things lurking around that require further cleaning.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hello everyone,

I pretty much lost my hope to restore my d:/ drive and all what was in it (all my data) before restoring my laptop but hope dies last.

I found this thread D Drive missing after Recovering Computer and it seems guy was smart enough to backup all his data in d:/ drive but I wasn't. I had no idea that after factory reset everything including my d:/ drive will be gone.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows some way to restore my data which was in my D:/ drive ?

Thanks an advance.

A:D:/ drive is gone after factory reset on Sony Vaio Laptop ???

Do you mean your D partition ?

Because if you had a separate D drive, you should have pulled it before you did the factory reset.

Why would you have to restore a data drive, what was wrong with it that you had to reset windows, a data drive or partition has nothing to do with windows ????

As Windows is on C, not D.

Hi there,

I have a Compaq Presario C700 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
It is an Intel dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46 GHz
There is 1 GB RAM

Some time back it began to run very slowly.
After trying various things (virus and malware scans, check disc, defragmenting and disk clean-up included) I decided to reset to factory settings.
Things are still as slow as ever though.

I would very much appreciate any help before I decide to give up and get a new laptop.

Thanks.

Paul

It is possible you can get better speeds without resetting it but we need more information. Is it slow all the time or just doing certain things? (surfing, downloading, using programs etc) If you can download the following it'll help us take a look at what might be happening.

Download and run Speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy when done, click File/Publish Snapshot and it will provide you a link to copy and paste here.

I brought a laptop that was the display model at Sam's yesterday.  I was trying to do a factory reset, but once it gets to "Installing Windows" it does a continuous loop.  It will start off at 64% then go to 100%, then restart.  When it comes back on, it is still "Installing Windows" and goes right to 64%, then 100%, then restart.  I started at 10:45pm last night (7/28/2016) and it is still saying the same thing. What can I do to stop the cycle?

A:Toshiba Laptop Graphics/Video problem after factory reset (pics)

You are probably using the wrong video driver installed by MS under updates.
I suspect the driver from 2009 is the best driver for the laptop. It is not a good idea to simply update drivers for the sake of getting something newer. If it isn't broken, and it sounds like the video was working okay before you did the restore, then do not update the driver.

Unless you post the exact model of Toshiba, we can not link you to the chipset drivers because in a laptop, chances are good that the video is a chip on your motherboard and not a video card.

Hello All My friend has an Asus X A laptop that her son used and abused It was so loaded with spyware and who knows what else that I Laptop Asus Install? - X55A Reset to Home Clean or Windows 7 Factory had no other choice but to reset it to the factory set-up Asus allows users to do this by hitting F and then following the prompts For the most part the reset worked pretty well but the PC is still a bit sluggish in my opinion I did remove all the bloat ware I could find by uninstalling the software and turning off the corresponding software in MSConfig The laptop only has GB of memory and a Celeron processor and it is running Windows Home Premium bit I do not have the actual recovery DVD that can Asus X55A Laptop - Reset to Factory or Clean Windows Home 7 Install? be purchased Asus X55A Laptop - Reset to Factory or Clean Windows Home 7 Install? from Asus for The PC might have shipped with the DVD but who knows where it is I have turned on the Windows Firewall and installed Microsoft Security Essentials as I do not want to do too much until I figure out what the next step is All of the devices loaded properly in Device Manager and the PC can browse the internet Sometimes it runs decently and other times it is sluggish as I said So here are my ideas and I wanted to get some feedback advice If I could get a DVD with Windows Home Premium could I install Windows from the DVD and then use the Windows Product key which is printed on the bottom of the laptop to activate Windows My thinking on this is to do a clean install to wipe out any type of spyware or virus that survived the factory reset I will have to install the drivers that Windows cannot figure out but that is no big deal Asus confirmed that a factory reset should wipe out the spyware unless the spyware leaked into the partition that has the reset data Will Microsoft allow this as I have an OEM version of Windows vs a full retail version The other option is to purchase the CD from Asus I really do not see what this will do as it is probably the same thing as running the factory reset by hitting F Right Lastly is the fact that this PC only has Gb of RAM what is causing the sluggishness When I look at Task Manager the RAM usage is which is very high Thanks Bill Thanks bill

Hey everyone Laptop over time has become very slow and sometimes unresponsive It's around years old now I have cleaned Factory Laptop To Restore up the Restore Laptop To Factory HDD run virus and spyware programmes defragged and generally kept it clean as i can However i've decided that my next course of action to get it's glory days back is to restore it to factory I have used the back-up and restore programme to back-up all pictures video's and documents to an external HDD I have checked the external HDD for the files and it says quot Backup Set quot once clicked on that folder it shows me folders saying quot Backup Files quot and quot Catalogs quot In the backup files folder everything is saved in rar quot Backup files quot Backup Files quot etc In the quot Catalogue quot folder it says quot Global Catalog quot Which is a windows backup catalog file My question is this If i run a factory reset now will these rar files give me my pictures video's and documents back Many Thanks

A:Restore Laptop To Factory

Welcome
An rar file is
a collection of documents, that have been reduced in size.

That is all we know about the files. If you have backed up properly, you will be able to restore after factory reset. Without knowning more about how your backed up, if done properly, etc. I do not want to make a definite commitment as to your ablity to restore your documents etc.
I will say this. If you backed up properly, using compatible software, yes you will be able to restore after you perform the factory reset.

Can you test somehow, perhaps try to restore some of your doucments, before the reset and be sure that it works?
