My laptop was victim of a virus that destroyed some register files and even System Restore could not fix it. My only choice is to format the hdd and reset to the OS in the chip which is Win 8, but I had already upgraded to Win 10. How can I recover my Win 10 Key so I can reinstall and activate Win 10?
Thanks / Arturo
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
There is no free key. If your computer came with Windows 8.x, the key is in the bios. If you wish to install from the iso, do the install without activation, then once you get into the GUI, then do the activation and it will go through.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/62231-how-recover-win10-key-free-upgrade-8-1-a.html
I know someone with a Vista (Business) PC and he received a free upgrade notice to Win10. Is this correct and if so does it just mean that the OS will be installed without saving apps and files?

The free upgrade applies to qualified computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1.
It does NOT apply to computers that are running Windows Vista.
who and why is anyone going for the free Win10 upgrade ? I do online stuff and gaming.... I do not have a tablet.... at current our computer run Win 8.1. I signed up a while back for the free Win10 upgrade.... is there a thread for this discussion already?
Lots of Windows 10 news here ... Windows 10 News - Windows 10 Forumshttp://www.eightforums.com/general-support/68757-who-why-anyone-going-free-win10-upgrade.html
I'm still on Win7, I noticed that their pop up window to install Win10 has changed, there is no option to select another date for the install, it were only ever 3 days ahead anyhow.
I'm wondering, is the free offer coming to an end then?
Looking through some of the past threads on here, I see that some have reverted back to their old OS after dabbling with Win10, I'm wondering if I should even bother/risk trying it to be honest?.....Although I dare say that I'll be forced to in the end.
The offer is for a year - July 2016 (it was released on 29th July 2015)
i have a couple laptops that both came with windows 8.1 that im going to be selling. both were upgraded to win10 during the free upgrade period and both are currently on anniversary edition. when i look at the activation page, it says "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account". naturally, i will reset windows before sale so does this mean the new owner will not be able to activate windows 10 since it wont be done with my acct? do i need to track down restore media for each and put win8 back on?
That's actually very interesting because historically and even when I had my stint on Windows 10, the license is tied to the machine, not the user. What I would do is reset those laptops and set them up with a local account and see if the activation status is an issue.http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10/445645-free-win10-upgrade-transferable-another-owner.html
Hello This is my upgrade free period Win10 ends after Installing the first time Installing Win10 after the free upgrade period ends here and couldn't find an answer after a few minutes of searching Sorry if this has been asked already Anyway I have an HP laptop that Installing Win10 after the free upgrade period ends came with windows and has a Gb recovery partition that re-installs Win and all the bundled software After I upgraded to Win I made a recovery drive When creating the recovery drive it asked for a Gb USB drive which I provided and it seemed to work fine I later used the recovery drive to re-install windows but it was windows again I then had to download and install the free upgrade again What will happen if I want to re-install win after the free upgraded period ends Will the upgrade still be available from somewhere as long as I have a hardware profile on an activation server Or maybe I have to do something different when creating the recovery drive I'd really rather not get stuck with Win in the future BTW my PC at work was an upgrade from to and I made a recovery drive there also That PC doesn't have a recovery partition and only required Gb for the recovery drive Should I expect this drive to re-install win and require me to download again also Thank you in advance for any informationhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/53453-installing-win10-after-free-upgrade-period-ends.html

I received the free win 10 upgrade from an invitation to reserve the upgrade. The other day, a Ransomware hit me, and though I believe I may have immediately tracked & deleted all affected files I could find, I hardly believe I could be so skilled as to be successful.
I had this happen last year, and ended up formatting the unit, and reloading Win 7. I don't want to have to go back to 7, but how do I get another Win 10? Is there a key I need to find & save? A free site that I can get a copy on a flash drive to load from? Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue how to proceed since it's an online download, and once formatted, the unit won't be able to get online without the OS
you can download the newest build of windows 10 > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10
boot from the setup media - remove every partition (wipe) the HDD
and clean install widows 10
since you already had win7 and windows 10 on that PC - if asked for product key - just skip that screen
So I now have windows 10 and I'm so fed-up with it. It all started with RST driver thing not working. I downloaded the latest driver, installed it and windows would not boot. It would go to the trouble shooting screen and I tried everything, got frustrated and did the PC reset that does not delete your personal files. But it did just that! All the previous apps that I had, all the years of saving my favorite links in folders inside of firefox is all gone. All my adobe apps, security apps etc.... Please tell me there something I can do to recover all of this. I have tried system restore (recovery) and even that was turned off. I tried to revert back to win 7 but the system restore in that was turned off as well and I don not understand how or why it was that way.... Thank you anyone that can help.... Joe
Please tell me you were able to recover your old apps and settings from somewhere?
Using windows10 build 10240 upgraded from each and every single one since the tech preview came out. That means that my account has "hold over" settings from old builds. Currently this account is using a 4x tile grid on the start menu (official default is 3x) and my desktop icons have disappeared. I have created a new account and it seems to be working flawlessly (probably not the right word given win10 is full of bugs, many I just haven't ecountered). So I know creating a new account will fix my problems but I'd like to fix and keep my old account. Does anyone know how to fix those two issues (4x tile grid, no desktop icons) on an account that has been upgraded from earlier builds?Truth can become lie, but if lies become truth we're in trouble.
Didn't see the show icons menu item, lol me. Guess I must've unticked the option by accident.Truth can become lie, but if lies become truth we're in trouble.http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-10/recover-win10-desktop-icons-from-earlier-tech-preview-builds/57.html
You just have to tell a little lie and say you use "assistive technology".

I am not sure if I have win 8.1 pro or win 8.1Says 8.1 pro in mscinfo but doesnt allow me to install win 8.1 pro features. Anyway that is not the issue I am writing about. Issue is , I had my laptop crashed 1 month after I installed Win 10. it required HD replacement by HP, at which stage I was told not to ugrade to win 10 as my laptop will not handle it. My Question is:free upgrade to wn 10 ends soon.what happens when my OS will no longer be supported by MSWhat is actually the problem that causes HP notebooks to crash? Is there a feature in win 10 that can be turned off to avoid causing the crash?Atleast we can keep up with the updates!! Need some help to understand what the actual issue is and if there has been some workaround found by now.SDhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Win10-upgrade-deadline-arrived-cannot-upgrade-what-next/td-p/5688369
Anyone know if there is a 'best' one?
I'm currently using Avast on my Win7 PC, wife bought a laptop almost a month ago that came with Win10 pre installed and McAfee, the 30 day free trial is almost up.
Windows 10 includes a built-in AV program, good article about it and some other things you can do here :- http://www.howtogeek.com/225385/what?s-the-best-antivirus-for-windows-10-is-windows-defender-good-enough/

I also have Win 7 Pro 32 bit (laptop) but haven't been offered Win 10 Free for that. Why?
Hi Graphicool I suggest you to bring this issue in the thread I created since there's quite a few users that have it and it'll be better to have it all in one thread.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579044/support-thread-for-the-get-windows-10-app-not-working/Also, it contains a link to all the solutions you should try first.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/580751/why-havent-i-been-offered-win10-free/
I just started using Win amp I love it so far I was using Win before the change I noticed after some research that Win doesn't have a built in Video Editor like MovieMaker that was on XP amp Win I'm I correct about this Why would they not include a simple program like that in a good OS like Win Anyway here are my questions -What are the best free video editing software options I can get for Win -What are the best pay hopefully affordable video editing software options I can get for Win I edit a lot of iPhone captured best is & the Free editing Pay What programs Video for Win10? video as well as other HD video files I'm looking for something that can make good quality What is the best Free & Pay Video editing programs for Win10? website videos amp YouTube channel videos among other things MovieMaker wasn't great but at least it was easy to use and made quick B'day videos etc My go to now is Corel Video Studio Pro but it seems kind of slow amp out of date I was hoping to fine some more feature rich amp professional style What is the best Free & Pay Video editing programs for Win10? options I've heard Adobe Premier is very good but crazy expensive so that option is out I appreciate any help you can provide Thanks
Wondershare Filmora is a very affordable and easy to use video editor. I've been using it for some time on my laptop with Windows 7 and have had no problems. It has some excellent features and might be worth considering for Windows 10. Link here for information:
Looks like the only way you can get free MBAM is to install a 14 day trial of the Premium version. Should I disable Win 10 Defender during this period or disable MBAM or can they run together? I ask because my SIL's new PC seems to be restarting for no apparent reason. I have disabled MBAM (I think) but maybe I missed a setting that is causing an issue. Thanks.
Keep Defender in place...MBAM is a different tool altogether...Only 1 scan should be ran at a time however...http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,155661.0.html
I already know about the trick where you update then revert, and the computer you updated on will be able to upgrade again for free after July 29th, but what if I won't have the computer I want to upgrade until after this date?
I'm getting a MacBook Air in August. I like how any programs made for Macs will work (for the most part) because each Mac has set specs, but I'm not a huge fan of the Mac OS. But then I learned about dual booting on Mac, and so I thought that if I dual booted Mac and Windows I'd get the best of both worlds. But then I learned that Windows 10 will only be free until July 29th, so is there a way I can 'reserve' the copy until then? Or will I just have to pay the $119 if I really want to do it?
Someone else might think of a way but the answer is no. You can't get a free upgrade after 7/29.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/51762-can-i-get-win10-free-after-july-29th-year.html

Anyone grabbed the latest version WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe on GOTD here? I missed this giveaway since my laptop is sent to our downtown repair store a few days ago by my Mom, who thought Windows 10 upgrade notification on my laptop was a kinda fishy virus...
I've searched on google, bravo there is another official giveaway of WinX HD Video Converter Delxue V5.6.0! On top of all that, I noticed this giveaway code is valid to activate till July 31.
You betcha, it means I can reinstall the program on Window 10 by activating the code that time.

I recently had to restore my laptop to factory settings and since then I've noticed a pretty big chunk of space thats normally free isn't there anymore. It's close to about 20gb. Vista is my OS. I'm guessing there is some file that was created when I did the restore and am wondering where I can find it and if it is safe to delete it. I don't need to recover anything I don't have now. Or if there is another issue that can explain the missing space?
Download and use windstat, I use it too. It will show what is on your HD. If you have further questions others will help, too. just remove what you do not wanthttp://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/299542-how-do-i-recover-my-free-space.html
Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10 on the hp 110-414 have you got any problems or bugs with it and is it running well on it and do you think I should upgrade
Because you may find that you need to install the Windows 10 driver for it after upgrading. With most notebooks there are two or three different adapters that could be installed. It helps to what is installed in yours. Use the search functiion in the forum and search for windows 10 wifi driver. You will notice that many members did not take the time to either locate the driver or know what is installed.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Hp-110-414-Win10-Upgrade/td-p/5579588

My wife's computer could not upgrade to win 10 cause it had an old video card. I upgrade motherboard and video card. Win 7 is registered, but can not upgrade. The free upgrade tool still shows the other video card. Tried the media creation tool and still goes back to the upgrade box with the old card. Is there anyway to erase that upgrade box and redue it?
Check for any left over files or drivers from your old video card. Windows is still finding it somewhere. Check your device manager 1st just to see if its listing 2 video cards, then check your program folders for any left overs. Also just for backup reasons, download a program on this forum called Showkey which will give you the information on your currant Windows Key, incase you need it to upgrade to Windows 10.
When I upgrade my 32 bit win 7 computer to win 10 can I choose to upgrade to 64 bit win 10?
You cannot do an in place upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Going from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a clean install.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/56098-upgrade-32-bit-win-7-64-bit-win10.html

It hasn't asked me yet either, but that doesn't mean you can't upgrade.
You can do it manually, starting at step three here,

I have an older laptop (probably 6-7 years old, Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) and its been running fairly slow lately. I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free. Just looking for some good advice on whether or not I should even consider upgrading.
My first thought is that, with an older machine, I probably have a lot of junk on my hard drive causing the slowness so I need to clean it up (which means I'll miss the "today is the last day" bit...but do I really care?). I also think maybe my processor won't be able to handle the new version, but not sure if that's really a concern or not.
Can I ask for some advice? Thanks

make sure there are windows 10 drivers available for the PC
you could always make a recovery set of DVDs (if you havent already , and i would advise you make them anyway) and do a windows 7 clean install
you may have a lot of startups or even malware on the PC slowing it down

If this question has been addressed elsewhere, please direct me there.
I have a duel hard drive, dual boot system. Before upgrading to Win10, I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO SSD drive. I cloned my Win7 HHD drive to the SSD. I then deleted different items on each of the drives based on what I was going to use the drive for. (Games and General Purpose computing) Next, I updated the general purpose HHD to Win10, intending to dual boot Win7 SSD for games.
After upgrading the HHD drive to Win10, I discovered that the Windows 7 OS installed on my SSD was declared invalid by Microsoft and would not boot. I called Microsoft and was told I needed my win7 install key. I recently moved and cannot find my win7 installation disk.
I have Belarc installed on both drives. Is there any way to recover the CD key from the windows 7 drive even though it will not boot?

i am runing a toshiba satelite using windows 7. the laptop originally came with windows 8, i couldnt bear the change so i switched back to 7 and today i want to get a legit copy of windows 10 -- that will last for over 1 year -- installed after reinstalling windows 8 (my win 7 isn't licensed). after running "ProduKey" i found a "windows BIOS OEM key" that apparently belongs to the OEM win 8.
can i install 8.1 with my win 8 OEM product key?
can i upgrade directly from windows 8 to 10 or do i need to update from 8 to 8.1 and from there upgrade to 10?
can i use the retail win 8 istallation files with an OEM product key or do i need the toshiba OEM installation files?
thank you very much for any help!
No need to install windows 8 - just install windows 8.1 via ISO and then upgrade to windows 10 via ISO
windows 10 just needs to see the activation of windows 7 or windows 8.1 to activate itself..
How long generally does it take to upgrade to Win10 from Win7. Does it depend on HD & Processor?
I have an SSD and AMD Triple core 3.10GHz.
Win7 is pretty new clean install about 1&1/2 weeks old.
Roughly 1 hour maybe 1.5.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/40961-time-upgrade-win10.html
I am having issues with USB devices dropping since I upgraded to windows 10. I have tried updating device and use drivers, reinstalling devices and changing power settings for devices. Hi everyone, this is my first visit and post and I hope you can assist
where others have failed. I have tried to install Win 10
on two machines and neither of them would work, both telling me that the CPU was not
good enough or words to that effect.
PC1 has Intel Pent G3220 3.00 GHz Haswell chip.
PC2 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz.
Both of these are way over the required
minimum spec so I cannot understand why Win10 will not install.
Welcome to the forum. Its likely either your cpu cant handle PAE, NX and SSE2 or its not set in the bios
To test for PAE, NX, and SSE2, download a program called "CPU-Z" and run it. On the main window, look under the "Instructions" heading for SSE2, EM64T (which also indicates the processor supports PAE) and either VT-d or VT-x, which is required for NX support. If you have all 3, then you are good to go.
Hello i have a L50-B-1P1 laptop and i`m experiencing a few problems after windows 10 upgrade
1 R7 video driver missing so no catalyst present therefore i have low frames and frezess in games
2 Microphone producing garbeld voice when recording
I know that the series is discontinued but there should be some kind of fix for the problems i`m experiencing atm.
I don`t want to downgrade to wind 8.1/7

Depending on what it is you may be able to use the new AMD Crimson drivers instead. I have a L50D-C-13G and I abandoned the catalyst drivers for Crimson drivers and my machine is running great. I have an A10-8700P Carrizo R6 with windows 8.1 and it works great for me. The driver lists compatible hardware, read through it and see if your machine is supported.
My current computer has a retail copy of Win8. I'm building a new PC this weekend and I want to utilize the free upgrade to Win10 from my current retail version of 8, but I understand the free upgrade is tied to hardware.
Would my best option be to migrate Win8 to the new PC and upgrade from there? Alternatively, would I be better to just upgrade to 10 now and then migrate to the new PC afterwards? I imagine I can just discover the product key using something like Belarc Advisor, but then I don't know if the key will be accepted for activation on the new hardware... Thoughts?
l had an issue with windows update which required me resetting components.. afterwards l made sure to check for the updates l dont want, not one of the get windows 10 ones was present (granted l didnt look at each support article as l was behind by a few on the laptop which l havent started in a little).
however l do have a list of the updates l dont want to install.. yet the win 10 upgrade is back l removed the program dir manually because l couldnt find an associated update.
just wondered if anyone knew if there was a newly labelled one.
Hi all trying to upgrade my desktop self-built from Win to Win but it keeps getting stuck at configuring settings Since at that point there is no task manager or anything and my system has Win10 at upgrade keeps stuck 86% getting no hdd activity light it's hard to tell if anything is still happening The system has an ssd so should not be slow I've updated several laptops also crappy Win10 upgrade keeps getting stuck at 86% ones with slow hdd and it worked for all of them never taking longer than couple of hours Now the upgrade on my desktop has been running for hrs mostly stuck at that point I tried to upgrade it once already last fall and then I did not have this issue But system was very unstable and hence unusable with win and hence reverted back to So what are my options to troubleshoot I only have keyboard and mouse attached both USB and no other USB devices There are lots of applications installed and configured dev environment for my personal projects so I would really really like to avoid a clean install If it matters it it win professional and there is enough free space on c drive Should I unplug mouse and keyboard or even display dvi-dhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/57202-win10-upgrade-keeps-getting-stuck-86-a.html

Hi all, i have a Precision M4700 with windows 7 SP1 OEM, i'm confused, can i install windows 10 pro for free or do i have to purchase an upgrade license (if i do it now, before the 29th July) ?
Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.
Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.
Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. You will also need to update the drivers to Windows 10 as well. Click the link below to download the drivers for your M4700.

Hey, My com just suffered from a Trojan horse virus and I had similar problems found here. After following the steps, I realised that my files were lost. So, I was wondering if there are any free and good software that can recover lost files. Thanks in advance
My Mom needs a paper of hers for another project. For whatever reason the file has become corrupt and no longer displays correctly. I downloaded a recovery program trial from officerecovery.org, but since it is a trial it deletes some of the text in the document and replaces the words with "demo". If anyone knows of a free program that can save this file, I would really appreciate it.
Recuva (freeware) is often suggested here.
Hope this works?
I don't want to update to W10 yet and I have read that I cannot keep my current W7 installation along with a free upgraded a W10 from the same W7 key.
So, if I do the free upgrade from W7 to W10 and then go back to W7, will I keep the free upgrade on this PC if I install W10 after the summer 2016 deadline? Or going back to W7 will disable the free upgrade to W10?
Technically, your license has been converted to Windows 10 license and thus you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free past the deadline.
I saw many questions regarding this on Microsoft Answers too but this remains a mystery as of now.

I upgraded a few days ago on my ACER Aspire 605G from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and I lost wifi capability. After upgrading numerous drivers, The Qualcomm Atheros Wireless LA Driver gave a message that said, "The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system. Insert or reinsert now." Is that the root of the problem. How do I fix the wifi access? Is it possible to upgrade a C875-15G to Win10? Currently it's not on the list of supported laptops on the Toshiba website, but Win10 compatibility check does not encounter any issues.
Did somebody tried to upgrade such a laptop already?
I tried to upgrade in 2014 but that didnt work.
Some problems with the taskbar and cpu tied up continuously.
I had the same problems with a dell running on w7. Recently I upgraded the last one again and it runs well now.
So I am planning to upgrade the C875-15G again tot W10 again shortely.
Are there any reports from successful installation on the C875-15G?
I downloaded the upgrade as instructed and when it reached the 100% mark, everything stopped. The download took me 5 hours! (I don't have a very good ISP speed in my area). The problem is, where is the download now? I've searched the 'downloads' file and I cannot seem to find it. Maybe it has been placed in a separate file of its own. Could you please tell me what the name of the file might be and where I may be able to find it.

Like in the topic. Please help; after upgrading to Win 10 there is no keys-backlight after using the FN + Z combination. in bios (after upgrading) everything is fine; so when I turn backlight ON or OFF backlight runs out, but there is problem with Toshiba Funcktion Key driver I think.
I did the reinstalation of this driver, have others toshiba drivers for Win 10 installed (Eco, system driver etc.). Toshiba Funckction key runs for several seconds after system bots up, and is blocked (?) by something after jus several seconds. Weird and very annoying. The fun is that combination for screen brightness (FN + F6 or F7) and for volume up/down (FN + 3 / 4) runs perfectly vell. Backlight
I think the problem is connected with Toshiba Funcktion Key program.
Please help ! Portege is the top class of Toshiba laptops.
I've a A70 ThinkCentre initialy with W7.
Since the update (almost compulsory) towards Windows 10, my explorer of files closes alone, approximately every 53 seconds... To describe a little more my "breakdown" after my tries of this evening: it is the process " explorer Windows " that is reset doubt approximately the 50 seconds. So closes the explorer, the configuration panel, etc. Everything closes at the same time. The desk becomes black some milliseconds then re-appears.It occurs permanently, even if the explorer is not opened, the desk resets...As if something made the " end of spot "...What's to be done?
Is the A70 compatible with W10?
Mod: edited title to add system type and clarify problem
Go to Solution.
The A70 is not on the list of Lenovo Win 10 supported systems. Your Intel processor is several generations before official Win 10 starts.
There are ways to prevent Win 10 reminders and unwanted automatic downloads, Google for them.

I'll take a stab at this one..
From my experience with HP they do drop support for some of the products and you get stuck with the last OS that was installed on it.,. for example I had a nice desktop and it only would support Win7. When I tried to run Win8 on it .. well it would work fine but when I went to shut it down for the night and restart it that's when it would fail. Seems HP will not provide the updates to support new OS's. And this also applies to other OEM's.
Now having said all of that here is one option you have. Make sure you can make a system backup and backup your personal data. When that's done make sure you can restore the system and you're comfortable with the process.
At this point you could perform a clean instillation of 10 and see what happens. IF it fails to work properly just restore your PC to the previous settings with the backup you made.
... yes.. complicated but that's the best advice I can offer at the moment
And welcome to the forums

Hi Guy's I have a Win laptop and a Win desktop I like a lot of what I've read about Win although not all But I was hoping that the laptop would be offered it first It's a refurb That I only recently bought My intention was to install slide shows of my art work and use it to show potential customers Anyway I was hoping to install Win on that and put it through it's paces That way I could decide before upgrading my main PC Unfotunately it hasn't worked out that way Yesterday Win downloaded to my desktop PC It said click here to upgrade I was panicing and got a tad twitchy But was pacified when but wants I now! upgrade to 'Win10' to it time need decide, it went on to say - Expect a second prep of your device - Review the licence agreement - Choose when to upgrade Phew it was number 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! that made me relax Remembering I'd read you can wait for almost a year before 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! making up your mind So I pressed the 'OK let's continue' button Did then now I'm faced with no problem I thought but hereby lies the rub Choose a date and time when you want to install the upgrade These are the choices I get HELP

I have multiple ThinkCentre M78-10BR workstations that I am upgrading to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Some upgrade properly without any problems. I now have at least two stations that are having graphics problems. I can't seem to find a driver that is compatiblen with the on-board adapter.I have tried installing Radeon HD 8370D drivers from Windows Update, Lenovo Support, and from AMD's site. In all cases the system BSOD until I remove what was installed. I do have M78-10BR that upgrade perfectly with driver 15.200.1036.0. Thinkpad W540 will not upgrade to Win10 via Windows Update. Have also downloaded Media Creation Tool and Win10 iso file. All are 64-bit as is my processor and current Win8.1 Pro w/ Media Center. Have tried running MCT and iso as administrator with no success. I'm running out of time for a free upgrade! System has 8GB RAM and plenty of free space on hard drive. All 8.1 updates and patches are installed. All drivers are updated. Please help!
Moderator comment: Model added to subject for clarity.
OOPS -- saw you tried this already. ------------------------------------Have you tried obtaining the upgrade directly from Microsoft via their Win10 Media Creation tool? You will be able to download an entire .ISO file to burn a CD or create a bootable USB stick: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 This works better, sometimes, than the Windows upgrade pestering message. Good luck!----------------------------------------- How are you fixed for disk space? The upgrade needs qute a bit of extra room ~ 5 - 10 GB, at least, to store previous machine state.

I have a strange issue where after a full shut down in Windows 10, the motherboard is still delivering power to my connected devices such as my headset, keyboard, mouse and monitors i.e. all the lights on these devices are still on, whereas previously in Win7 they would all turn off.
I did an in-place upgrade from Win7-Win10 and adjusted no motherboard BIOS settings.
I've looked through the Win10 power options and can;t see anything relating to keeping devices on after a shut down. I assume this is so USB devices like phones and tablets can charge from USB when the PC is off? However I don;t need this feature if that's the intention.
Any ideas? Is windows 10 (vs win7) sending a different command back to the MB on a shutdown?
MB: Asrock P67 Extreme 6
CPU: Intel 2600k
Some motherboards have a USB power feature even when the computer is switched on.
This sound like your issue. This can be adjusted in the BIOS settings.
Look in the BIOS for an option called EUP Turn it off.
Or maybe ErP Ready. Turn it on.
Edit: One more thought... when you installed the motherboard chipset drivers you may have installed a small program that allows for the charging of USB devices when the PC is off.
It seems according to the update history, my computer is trying to upgrade itself to Windows 10 automatically. Can it actually do this without asking me? I didn't reserve the upgrade so it shouldn't be trying to upgrade. Did it fail noticing that I didn't reserve the upgrade?
Scared and Very Confused - Windows 10
I've been hesitant to upgrade any of my PCs from 7 to 10, because it is not a clean install.
I want to be able to upgrade, but from a clean install, so that I have the ability to revert back to a windows 7 capture of my system if I find 10 to be unsavory.
Is there a way to register my hardware or obtain a windows 10 license key, via an upgrade without having to go through the process of having 10 installed on top of my 7 system?
You were all so helpful in getting me through my last Win10 experience that I decided to give it another go
I just finished upgrading my kids' PC from Win7 to Win10, and since the upgrade the system has been hard-freezing -- no responsiveness from mouse or keyboard, screen frozen in place.
I'd heard that there may be issues with USB drivers (since the motherboard is fairly old), so I reinstalled the latest from Gigabyte earlier today, but no dice.
Any advice would as always be appreciated! Thanks in advance,
I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I have a friend with WIN7 64 bit just like me. He received a message about upgrading to WIN10. He clicked on the X at the top right. It downloaded the update but he did not install it. It keeps asking about installing the upgrade.
What can he do to remove the WIN10 upgrade download?
What can we do to permanently remove any request to upgrade. Neither of us are computer gurus. We need a step by step simple procedure to stop any updates or requests for WIN10.
We have no desire for WIN10. Thanks, Bob.
The simplest way is to use a tool that automates the change of settings required to prevent the forced downgrade to Windows 10. Download the Never10 utility and it will disable the Win10 download. Extensive documentation and explanations are on its site.http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/396921-disabling-win10-upgrade-win7-64-bit.html

Greetings, Win 7 upgrades to Win 10 can be problematic with no easy way back to Win 7 unless you have a good image and bootable rescue media. The safest way to upgrade is to clone your existing Win 7 install to a second HDD or SSD. Connect only the cloned HDD to your PC to do the upgrade. Carefully read this entire article by Ed Bott to learn what needs to be done, and the time invested, if you have to rebuild Windows 7. Win 10 may have the correct WLAN driver as well as all other drivers needed to run correctly or the upgrade could choke. You still have the original Win 7 install on the first HDD and can move on with your computing life. Cheers!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-I-upgrade-h8-1230-from-Win7-to-Win10/td-p/5596437
Upgraded Edge 15 from Win8.1 to Win10 today. Everything was fine, then an installation file got stuck so I held power button for a forced shutdown. When I power up again, I get nothing, just a blank screen. (I didn't even see Lenovo logo) After another power cycles I saw a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, then it went away and I am still stuck at a blank screen, from the sound of hard drive it's not reading.I also tried booting to "Windows boot manager" and hard-drive, both got blank screen. I have three computers in family that were given upgrades on the win7 family plan. One was just informed it was eligible for win10 upgrade. I think I made the mistake of custom install (for a clean install) instead of an upgrade and, related to other problems with windows update, I might have lost my activation on win7. Long story short, when I got to the point where win10 was installed and asking for a key I knew I had done a no no as, if I had done it correctly, I should not have been asked for a key. Of course I have no key but the win7 key and the install just sits there with no options but to input the key, which I don't have. What's my best course of action here?
thanks in advance
If you haven't already, you should be able to enter the Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 10 if it's for the same edition and language.

Installation and configration of Mozilla Thunderbird, everything work very well.
My "client" was satisfied with this solution.

did WLM recovery function, deleted "Mail.MSMessageStore"; uninstalled WLM2012 cleaned up
revo uninstaller also registry; reinstalled WLM2012; but no success.
Thunderbird worked perfect, but his client likes to use WLM.
What can be done to get WLM working again?

I downloaded the upgrade by means of the "Windows10UpgraderApp", it completed the initial check and the whole download. At the second restart the installation got stuck at 32%. Switching off the pc, the previous release was automatically restored in few minutes.

I created a video on my YouTube channel showing how you can recover deleted emails in Outlook I am pretty sure that the technique demonstrated will work with or as well but I've only tested it using Outlook This technique will only work if you haven't compacted your PST file since the time you deleted the email you are trying to recover The basic steps are to back up your PST file then you use a HEX editor to quot damage quot the file by overwriting a small section of the PST file You then use the great utility ScanPST exe that comes with Microsoft Office to repair the PST file When you then open the PST file in Outlook the emails you have deleted since the last time you compacted will be in your inbox If you have deleted a lot of emails since you last compacted it is probably a good idea to try this with a copy of your active PST file Then you can just open it in Outlook alongside your main PST and just move the email you want recovered back into your main folder
Thanks for sharing the info and the video.
It might make for a better demo video if you open the PST file in the HEX editor after you delete the e-mails from the PST file.
As it is now, you:
...open the PST file (with all of the test e-mails in it) using the HEX editor
...open the PST file using Outlook
...delete some e-mails
...empty the Deleted Items folder
...close Outlook (which writes to the PST file)
...damage the PST file via the HEX editor
...save the damaged PST file (with all of the test e-mails in it)
...run the SCANPST utility
...repair the PST file
...open the PST file via Outlook with all of the test e-mails in it.
So - it appears that the version of the PST file that you damaged/repaired still had the deleted e-mails in it because that version of the PST file was still in RAM via the Hex editor. I'm not familiar with the HEX editor that you show (I use PSPad). I know that there are some editors that will automatically reload a file that was changed by another app. I could not tell from the video if that is what happened. So I suggest that you not keep the version in RAM (via the editor) that contains all of the test e-mails.
My guess is that you have tested this using something like this order:
...delete some e-mails
...empty the Deleted Items folder
...open the PST file using the HEX editor
...damage the PST file via that HEX editor
...save the damaged PST file
...run the SCANPST utility
...repair the PST file
...open the PST file via Outlook
But it did not happen that way in the video.
I know how hard it is to do things in perfect order in a video :-(
Is it safe and possible to upgrade to Windows Win10 issue? while WinUp to OS Upgrade have still current despite I am having a problem with my current OS I am currently running on Windows and recently I have been having issues that prevent me from performing Windows Update error code DISM 'ScanHealth' let alone 'RestoreHealth' as well as Upgrade to Win10 while current OS still have WinUp issue? other errors that I noticed from Event viewer It says my computer might have run out of memory though I don't believe so because if it's harddisk space C still have GB free space while RAM is used Upgrade to Win10 while current OS still have WinUp issue? only around out of GB I also attempted several troubleshoots to no avail For more details I posted about my issue before here Windows Update error code On a side note here is the list of my Windows Update that refuse to download install KB KB and KB updates returned me with error code While KB can install but keeps on coming back despite receiving quot successfully installed quot message If checked through quot Installed Updates quot KB and KB have actually been installed One example of the errors I saw in Event Viewer DISM error code I tried quot Check your PC quot through Get Windows icon And here is my result in case if this is needed I have reserved Windows and waiting for confirmation email But I am worried if this problem would ever interrupt my upgrade process If this upgrade could help I am thinking I might as well just upgrade to terminate this problem once and for all Any ideas I hope anyone here could guide me on thishttp://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/69369-upgrade-win10-while-current-os-still-have-winup-issue.html
I was getting 1920x1080 pixel on Win 7 until I upgraded to win10, where the max I get is 1366x768. I've exhausted my search online so thought I'd ask the group for help. Is there a particular driver I need to install that is not on the Dell site? Thank you.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19681684
From hours of searching this seems to be a common problem with Win card upgrade reader Win10 Loss Nov after SD of tho' I've only just experienced it after the November Gb quot upgrade quot I have a year old Dell Studio XPS MT and the Dell support pages were useless The solution might not be applicable to other makes but after the dozens of other offered solutions that achieved nothing this worked and moreover has stayed working Apologies if it doesn't work for your system but my elation prompts this posting I had not only lost the SD card reader but my drives were screwed up after the upgrade and the pc would hang every Loss of SD card reader after Nov Win10 upgrade time I tried some quot new quot driver for the card reader I owe the end of Loss of SD card reader after Nov Win10 upgrade my two days of frustration to the lady who posted here - http www drivethelife com windows- -xp-vista html Her link to the OSToto page seems dead but this link was good - http www drivethelife com The d l of the exe file is free for quot Driver Talent quot and it identified the missing driver Installation amp a reboot and card reader back in operation I guess I should add I've no connection whatsoever with quot Driver Talent quot beyond being a satisfied user which can't be said for Win
I've been having problems with card reader on my Dell Inspiron 7537 following the Windows 10 upgrade - see Realtek Card Reader Keeps Disappearing
I tried the above utility but it didn't find a better driver than the one provided by Dell.
If I log in as the normal user or the Administrator account I get explorer exe closing and reopening about once per second I can get it to close permanently with Task Manager if I'm fast enough with the mouse MS has an article on this saying to run Windows Update because it's a known problem with an already released fix Unfortunately you can't run windows update without explorer exe running apparently They refuse to say what the name of the patch is or I'd download it and run it off loop-crashing upgrade Win10 explorer.exe my flash drive with task manager's run prompt Browse button So I either need that download a command to start the reversion back to Windows from a command line or a command line way to Win10 upgrade loop-crashing explorer.exe bring up the windows update UI that works in By the way the problem was found to be with file permissions on certain app data related folders and as soon as I tried to alter the permissions on those specific folders with problems it gave some generic error saying it failed So apparently I can't fix it manually
Well one of those is out. I run the new Win10 version of wuapp.exe which is "start ms-settings:windowsupdate" and it does nothing. So, anyone know how to revert to Win7 via command line or what the KB# is for the fix?http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f338/win10-upgrade-loop-crashing-explorer-exe-1040377.html
I have a SATA-1 TSSTcorp TS-H653 (not sure whether it is an F, G, H etc.) CD/DVD writable drive in an Inspirion 537s. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate, but the drive is not recognized by the OS. However, the drive does show up in BIOS. I have searched and cannot find a driver for this drive. Any advice or assistance?

I'm having exactly the same problem with the same drive as well. Baffling
Three days ago my Windows 7 computer upgraded itself (without my permission) to Windows 10. Mostly this hasn't mattered as I've quickly found how to fix or do things that have altered. However my sound system is now unusable because of echo/reverberation. I have checked that all drivers for the sound components are up to date (the Win10 install did this automatically it seems from the dates shown). I have attached screen-grab images of the System and Sound components descriptions. I would appreciate help on how to fix this.
