This should be easy but I can't find the PCI Serial Port Driver for HP Z240 VEN_8086 DEV_A13D. I think that's the AMT driver for this puppy.... I think its called sunrisepoint or skylake chipset? Things that make you go hmmmmm
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A friend of mine has some win32 and msdos applications that use serial
port communication with an external device, and a notebook that doesn't
have a serial port (unfortunately, many notebooks these days come
without serial ports). He got himself a USB to Serial Port Cable, and he
says that the win32 apps work just fine now, but the DOS ones don't.
I think (I'm not sure) those DOS applications don't run from an ms-dos
prompt under windows , but just in plain DOS mode. I'm trying to find out a
solution to use them under ms-dos.
I just want to find out if anyone knows any DOS driver for those USB to
Serial Port Converters / a method to get those dos applications running ...
Just because you have a USB to serial converter cable/adapter doesn't mean DOS can work with the device. The device itself uses the USB protocol, so you need a DOS driver to "talk" to it. Scour the internet, I believe I saw one out there. search for - DOS usb

Can anyone please help me, I have just tried to install the prolific USB-Serial COM PORT Driver Windows 7 Home 64 bit to connect my Garmin summit.
As hard as I have tried I cannot find a driver that works, I am using a PFRANC data cable that worked with my XP Pro PC with out any problems.

Can anybody direct me to the driver for the PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller for an Optiplex 755. It is NOT a modem as I do not have anything installed. I am pretty sure it is the onboard serial port driver as no serial com port is showing up in device manager and nothing I load will fix it. I would have thought the chipset driver would have but it did not. I am using XP SP2.
rievandusky,Welcome to the Dell Community Forums. You need to install the Intel AMT SOL/LMS driver in order to get the serial port out of the Other devices category. As far as the PCI Simple Communication driver, you need to install the Intel AMT HECI driver. Both are under the Chipset driver category on the Dell Resource CD.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/18692452

Click on latest BIOS and driver updates, then select your operating system and download the drivers you want. I'd start with the chipset drivers.

In Device Manager still 3 devices are missing drivers. PCI Serial PortPCI Simple Communications ControllerSAS Controller Can somebody please help me to find the correct drivers for these devices? Thanks & Regards,Sourav
First two are from Intel AMT (Management Engine), and the last one is because you have a SAS controller installed. It should most probably be the 9217; but can be a 9212 as well. Do you know the configuration of your system? For the first two, if you are not using Intel AMT, you can disable the same from BIOS : Got to BIOS by pressing F10 when the system powers up, and go to "Advanced" --> "AMT Configuration" and disable the same. If you don't want to disable the same, please install this: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5225038&swItemId=wk_116019_1&swEnvOid=405... If you don't know which SAS controller you are using, please post a pic of the card, where the label on the card is visible. If you know the SAS controller model, you can install the driver from "Driver - Storage" section of this page: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5225038&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4059 Thanks,Sasi

I'm reinstalling Win98SE on a Compaq 5240 after a hard drive crash. It goes well but does not find a driver for the Serial Port. I tried Compaq, but they are no help . . will only support if we restore with thier disk (which has gone astray)and was not the SE version.
When I delete the controller from Device Manager, restart and let it rediscover the port, it wants to look at D:/DIR00002/Patches . . which must be on the Compaq version of Win98, but ain't on the retail MS version.
It looks like the driver is specific to Compaq and is used to share the serial port with a front panel game port.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get this driver?
Thanks a ton . . wrs
OK, I think you're talking about the game port that came with the sound card in your Compaq? Or, are you referring to a COM port? You might post this in the Win98 forum. You might get a quicker reply as it applies to Win98.
Ever since I installed Windows 7 (64-bit), the Device Manager shows under Other Devices / PCI Serial Port / Properties / "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)".
I've update the drivers for my main-board (ALiveNF6G-GLAN) with the files from here and for my graphics card (GeForce 6150SE) and chip-set (nForce 430) (v15.49) from here, but the PCI Serial Port driver is still reported as not installed.
Deleting the device (and letting Windows re-detect it) doesn't work either.
I'm really frustrated by this problem because I suspect it might be the cause the Windows doesn't enter Sleep/Hibernate mode correctly (e.g., the CPU fan keeps running).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS. Please ignore the system specs below this post. Those are for my PC. This problem is on my wife's PC.
Taka a look at page 43 of the manual, how to disable Serial Port.
You can download the manual from your link.

I have a Toshiba Portege R830-14M, serial: PT321E with Windows 8.1 x64.
I have a problem with this driver:
"COM7 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3D&SUBSYS_00011179&REV_04\3&115 83659&0&B3"
Searching in google I found that is "Intel Management Engine Interface". In Toshiba's support web I downloaded driver but when I install the driver, error: "Cannot find support device" appears.
How can I solve that? Where I download the correct version?

Hello, I am working on installing windows 7 enterprise 64, on a z240 SFF. I am missing the USB drivers for it. I have the driver disk that came with it and I have installed every driver that is on there, along with going to HP support software and drivers web link and downloading everyone from there. There has not been one driver that has solved this problem, so I was looking for some sort of help on finidning one.l I tried a few other drivers for different model of towers but no luck. please help
Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the USB controller that needs the driver. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/z240-sff-USB-driver-missing/td-p/5746056
When I download graphics card driver 15.20.1045 (sp73511.exe) from the HP site and install this, the properties display 15.200.1045.So I'm now not sure if the corect driver is installed, because I'm still getting graphics card errors. Our software supplier PTC recommends the certified 15.20.1045-version so how do I get this right?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Graphics-Card-driver-Z240/td-p/5847833
I have an amateur radio program installed on my desktop Dell PC runnning Windows 7. The program is correctly installed but when I try to communicate using the Internet I hear no sound from my speakers. I am connected to the other station but still no sound.
I get a message saying "cannot open serial port COM1. I would like to know how to convert a USB port to a Serial port. Please advise.
When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Missing-Z240-Network-Driver-after-booting-to-Windows-in-SCCM/td-p/5600498
I have reviewed the other serial port malfunction thread, but it didn't seem to correct my problem. My computer will not recognize a device plugged into the serial port. I have confirmed the settings for the port which concur with COM 1, but I continue to receive a "device not connected" in the software.
Check to make sure the serial port is enabled in the bios. Sometimes, one will be disabled by default (to make us crazy), but it's easy to fix.
I just installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers. I am missing two drivers, and I don't know what they are:
PCI Serial Port
PCI Simple Communication Controller
What exactly are these? I own a Lenovo X200 Tablet. Any ideas where I can find the drivers for these two things?
Have a look here

These are for your model, download and try all the Vista drivers that you dont have or you are not sure of
I hope this helps
Hello. I have a digital camera that must use a serial port. I can not get the comp. to recognize the camera. The software that came with the camera has been successfully installed (or so I'm told). I have two serial ports, one is 9 pin the other is larger. The camera requires the 9 pin connection. The 9 pin is on Com 1 and has the settings IRQ:4 Range:03F8-03FF. I am using a cable modem, and I do not have a dial up modem installed. I have checked the device manager and there are no exclaimation points or "X's" by Com 1. Device manager also reports no conflicts with Com 1. Any suggestions for resolving this problem would be appreciated.
I am trying to connect my fiancee's palm pilot via serial port to my computer running windows XP. I have tried both serial ports on the back of my computer (one has a picture of a monitor and one has a picture of what reminds me of a lego Oh, and these are 9-pin ports I believe). Anyway, I can't get the palm pilot to sync with the computer. After looking at the FAQ section on Palm's website, it sounds like the reason it isn't working is because of conflicting COM/IRQ addresses.
Can someone please tell me the best way to see if there are any COM ports available on my computer and, if there's not, how to free one up? Thanks in advance!
If the plug has a pic of a monitor on it, the socket is probably for the onboard Video. I'm guessing that you are not in the right area for the serial ports?
I need to turn on my serial port and I don't know how to access the controls in the BIOS...
I have a Compaq Presario 5108US desktop. I have disabled the Windows XP "welcome screen" during reboot so that now I see the commands when my computer boots up. I don't know the proper keys to push to allow me to access the BIOS controls.
Can anyone help?
Sorry I didn't get back to you on the other post, been crazy around here...
Anyway, press F10 repeatedly when your computer boots up to enter the BIOS. After you reach the BIOS main menu, see if you can find a menu or setting for Serial Port. It is probably under the menu, Integrated Peripherals, or a menu similar to that. There should be an "Enable/Disable" option.
Let me know if this works for you
So im going to try to explain this as well as i can.
I am running a windows 7 and I have a radio I would like to program. The main issue is that the program needed to program it is for DOS. So I installed DOS 6.22 On my VMWare virtual machine (VMware Workstation 8.0.0) and ran the program. Now the radio connects with a serial cable. but since I am using my laptop (lenovo ideapad z575) It does not have a Serial port. So I am using a USB to Serial Adapter (Trendnet TU-S9). But DOS will not recognize it.
What I am wanting to do overall is to make my windows 7 computer assume that my USB adapter is a physical Serial port so that I can go into VMware and attach a "physical" serial port to my VM. any Ideas or other suggestion i could try? thanks and sorry for the read.
Did the trendnet USB to serial adapter come with drivers? Usually devices like that will. If not you can find them on the website most of the times. You may have to just install the drivers on your machine, and within the VM.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/254951-usb-serial-port-help.html

Hi - I am selling a sewing machine that has a serial port on the side but most people use USB sticks these days to transfer embroidery designs into their machines. The convertors I have seen have a male connection whereas I need a female connection. Does anyone know if there is a convertor that has a female connection? Thanks!
Hi judysue2, and welcome to TSG.
Are you talking about the USB connector or the 9 pin D-sub serial connector?
There are 9 pin serial cables that come in all combinations of male and female connectors on each end. There are also 9 pin D-sub "gender changer" blocks available.
EDIT: The serial port on your sewing machine is most likely designed to connect to a computer running specific downloading software for the machine. A general purpose serial-to-USB adapter would not have the built-in software needed to read the memory stick and send the data to the machine.
I have Palm VIIx. The hot sink was working ok before. But now it says "com1 port used by other programs and so it is not available. I am using windows xp.
Go into add hardware scroll through to add another port, tell it hardware is there click next when you get to the applet that gives you the option to manually select click it then scroll trought list to find(CON & LPT) high light click next it will appear in the next section that is about all I can remember don't have an XP machine up right now.
Everytime I turn on computer its trying to install new hardware. "PCI SERIAL PORT" . Please help me to solve this problem.

serial port disabled need to enable without using cmos (no password)
To enable the serial ports you are going to get the BIOS password or override it. What make and model PC is it? Also what BIOS and version is it? You can see them after powering on the PC while it is booting.
i need the pci serial port driver for Elitebook 8460p -Windows 10 64bit
Hi: You need this driver for that device... This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. On an Acer travelmate 518TX serial port I feed signals coming from a DSP. The signal is processed by a charting software that builds up the page line by line.
Happens that the image makes, at regular intervals a small jump to the left. So doing the final page is make up in stripes.
The software manufacturer states that some othe program is interrupting the incoming data stream from serial port, suggesting to disabling the Power Management System. I did it without any result.
My question is:
Can someone address me to what could be devices or software that commonly sample the serial port ? In order to investigate on how to stop this chopping activity.
Thanks for support
How does a serial port look like?

Why are new systems frequently being made without RS-232 serial ports?
Following an upgrade to my computer that included new motherboard, memory, modem, cd/rw, find now that I have no connection between my camera and computer. I have checked both the camera and cable on a different computer and they are in working order. It must be my serial port. Can this be a Driver problem, configuration problem or something else? How can I correct it myself. My computer is a Gateway G6-200 upgraded to a Pentium 1 with supermicro motherboard.
I am attempting to download a file to an external device via null modem cable attached to the only serial port on my PC (COM1). When I execute the download command, I receive the following message... "Can't open serial port. Last Error: Access is denied." I am on the system with Admin rights and can access all the advanced features in Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Hardware. Windows XP Professional reports the device as working properly - there are no conflicts or other errors. I explored the TechGuys forum and found and updated my registry to permit access in Device Manager. What else can be done? Are there any tests that can be run from the command prompt to confirm access to COM1?
I am running on a home built system with Intel P4, 2.8GHz, and 1GB RAM.
Do you have a mode in your computer or any faxing software?
I I/O port addresses Serial m running as ASUS A V motherboard WIN XP Home edition Two on-board serial ports Award V BIOS I have four serial ports the second two being on a Lava DSerial PCI card The serial ports are necessary in order to interface with some Serial port I/O addresses equipment that pre-dates USB The application software that s used has a sensitivity to the I O address not the COM port number and will work properly only when the I O address is that which is normally associated with a given com port number So the software works just fine with the two onboard ports since they have the addresses F and F However the Lava port addresses on com and com are set to FFE and FFF Win XP home allows you to change the com port number OK but doesn t allow you to change the I O address range used as previous OSs did Lava tech support says the addresses are assigned by the BIOS and there s nothing they can do There must be some way to influence the BIOS into assigning other I O addresses E and E would be nice but haven t had any luck with that Is there some way I can force this to come out the way I want nbsp
Does the A7V MB have any ISO slots? If it does you can use a ISO COM card from
a site that I buy parts from:
If it does not have any ISO slots? You can still check with cyberguys to see if they have a addressable PCI COM card.
Hope that this helps
I have a Sony PCG-FRV28 without a serial port. I have tried (2) different USB to Serial cables and (1) PCMCIA to serial card. The computer (running Win Xp Home) seems to recognize the serial adaptor, but the device I am trying to connect to (a touch screen display RS 232 connection via serial port) does not respond. I have tried to assign different COM prots to the serial connection but with no luck. The same cable works on an older Sony running Win 2000. The older Sony has a native serial port built in! I have already tried downloading the latest drivers for the serial cables with no luck.Any suggestions?
I'd look for a PCMCIA serial board, the USB to serial stuff has been problematic for me in several cases. I still have a couple of those adapters that wouldn't work in the application I was attempting to use them.
Whenever I try to access my serial port, my computer restarts. It does this for both com ports. Operating system is WIN2k. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?
I have an interface that connects to my computer's serial port. Until recently, it worked flawlessly. Last weeks it stopped responding. I thought it could be a cable or interface problem, so I plugged this interface into a Windows NT4 computer and it works fine! Of course, I tried to plug it to the second com port too.
Well, I looked in the device manager if there are any new conflicts- nil. Device Manager says "this device is working properly".
I tried to remove and reinstall the com ports- nada.
Is there any way to know if there is some service or program that perhaps ocupy the serial port so other devices cannot use it?
Any software that can "talk" to the serial port and see if it is functioning?
Hyperterminal will talk to them, and you can tie pins 2-3 together and they'll loopback and echo. There are also a number of serial port diagnostics around, do a search on www.tucows.com, I think you'll find quite a few.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/serial-com-port-problem-with-win-xp-7543.html
I'm a support person for a nonprofit that acquires refurb HP business-grade desktops coming off lease. When I rebuild them (Win10 Pro/64-bit) , I frequently have a "PCI Serial Port" error remaining in Device Manager even though I've installed the latest drivers for that model. Quite often I can't get rid of the error, and so I have to place a faulty machine into service. What's the cause of this error, and how do I correct it? Is the solution a generic patch that I can apply to all HP desktops, or is it specific to each model? And why does HP allow it to occur so frequently? Thanks.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/PCI-Serial-Port-errors/td-p/5813011
I have a Dell Latitude D620 with 2 USB ports and a Serial port. I need one of the USB ports to emulate a serial port. How do I do that?
I'm not sure that can be done or why one would want to do it.
If you could give more details someone else might have a idea.
What are you trying to hook to what and for what reason.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with XP. I shut it down last night after
operating in with my netgear wireless adaptor on a network in a hampton hotel. I got home tonite and on power up it says it has detected new hardware "PCI serial port" and tries to install it. No PCI was installed that I know of. And now my ethernet port seems disabled.
I cannot get it to function here at home where it always has, but my wireless works. I have tried going into Hardware and taking the phantom PCI out and it just keeps coming back. ANY ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My serial mouse is dieing from hard work. I have no spare serial mice but several PS2 mice. When I connect a ps2 mouse to the serial port using a ps2 to serial adaptor, the mouse doesn't work. Rebooting doesn't help. Tried 3 ps2 mice - none work. Suggestions?
I hope someone can help. I have an old ps/2 serial mouse that is a trackball. It has a "round" 6-pin connection.
When I had win95 on my computer, I was able to use it fine. I upgraded to win98SE, and ever since, I can't use the mouse. When I plug it in, my computer boots up and gets a BLANK screen and nothing works at all. Then when I unplug this old mouse and reboot, all is ok.
HOW CAN I MAKE THIS MOUSE WORK AGAIN (with my win98)? THANKS.
I have a 9 pin female serial port loopback tester, but on the other end of it, it is also a 25 pin loopback tester. Whenever I run our serial test, it fails the handshake portion of the test consistently. I have other serial testers, and they work fine, but I need this one to work properly. Is the loopback pinned out differently, or can I jump some of the connections to make it work? Any help is appreciated!
I have a 9 pin female serial port loopback tester, but on the other end of it, it is also a 25 pin loopback tester.Click to expand...
Are you trying to loopback test on the same connector or between two different connectors? You may have a loopback adapter/tester for testing between one serial port with a 9 pin plug and one with a 25 pin plug. I found a description of such a cable in some Sun Microsystems documentation here:
That same documentation has information on wiring 9 pin and 25 pin plugs for loopback testing on the same port.

"I dont see integrated peripherils in bios to set"
Thats OK, because these aren't intergrated, and you don't have intergrated peripherals.
"com3 and4 were auto assigned"
Don't quite understand, but I think thats good.
Try another PCI slot. XP should automatically detect the card and automatically assign the correct resources(unless it needs drivers) and they should appear in Device Manager. Is there anything in Device Manager that has an error?
Can anyone tell me what this is? I purchased a used computer and it has this on it. Could it possibly cause an Irq conflict with a nic?
If it does, can I physically remove it??
Whenever I try to access my serial port, my computer restarts. It does this for both com ports. OS is Win2k. Any ideas?
I have just received a palm pilot handheld for Christmas. I want to sync up to my PC, but simply connecting the handheld cradle to my serial port and installing the software is not enough.
I receive messages that my serial port is not available. How can I turn on the serial port on my PC? I run Widows XP Home.
I was once told to find the command for serial ports in the startup screen after a reboot. I have successfully changed the feature that only displays the Windows logo, and I can now read system commands at startup, but I don't see anything about serial ports...someone please help me!
It is a setting that is in your BIOS that came disabled for some reason.
When your computer reboots and you see the text, you will see the computer running diagnostics on your computer (finding hard drives, verifying memory, etc...). On that first page, you have to press F1, DEL, ESC or some other key to enter your BIOS Settings. Once you enter it, you have to go into Port Management or Integrated Peripherals to enable the SERIAL Port.
If you can determine who made your motherboard, we might be able to determine the exact procedure on how to enable this for you.
All of the computers at my workplace run on Windows NT. Several people (including myself) have purchased PDA's (Sony Clies) that use a USB port. I have heard that Windows NT does not support USB. Is this true? We really need to be able to HotSync our PDA's at work. Are there any adaptors that would convert USB to a female serial connection? I couldn't find any. Can you think of any other way to get around this problem?
No: WinNT does not support USB, however, there are ways to get around it.
Start searching here: http://www.usbman.com/Win NT USB Guide.htm
Has information on the problem, and several solutions.
I am planning on buying an MSI P67A-GD55 (B3) motherboard and I noticed it has a serial port header onboard. I would like to know where I wan buy an adapter to utilise this header. I searched it up and found this: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=3543&sku=28300
But that is just for Intel motherboards. Does anyone know where I can get one for my motherboard?
That adaptor should work fine on that board as far as I can tell. When it says its for Intel boards it is refering to the motherboard chipset not the manufacturer. The MSI board you have listed has a serial port connector and they are standard as far as I am aware. However, I haven't used or needed a serial port for many years so I am not overly familiar with them.
Motherboard detailed specs here.
I have a toughbook CF-27 that I'm having a problem using the serial port with. It is Pentium 266 mhz with 192 meg running Win98SE.
I am running a DOS program that communicates through the serial port to a RS-232 to RS-485 converter and my signal is not communicating properly. I know its not the converter cause it works on various other equipment. I've tried testing the com port with various com port testers and all test pass. I tried loading problem straight from a dos boot disk and have had no luck. Checked the BIOS settings and everything seems to be correct. The UART on this MOB is the same style as my other laptop.
Not sure where else to check.
Thanks in advance
Just because an adapter will work on one computer doesn't mean that it will on another.
I have peripherals that attach via USB serial cable Each time I plug into a USB port apparently XP is assigning another Com to it The peripheral software can only be configured up to Com The only USB ports in constant use are printer mouse and scanner These are always connected I can go into the USB/Serial enumeration port device USB/Serial port enumeration manager to access the ports and try to reassign a lower com but the port is being reported as USB/Serial port enumeration quot in use quot rendering it unavailable for anything How do I clean these out or reset com s or stop the enumeration process I have in safe mode tried to remove all USB ports hub controllers and serial ports for the pc I have also removed all instances of the drivers for the serial usb ports as well as the software requiring it use Upon restarting all ports are reinstalled including the phantom ones XP insists on remembering Thanks in advance for any guidance here nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/usb-serial-port-enumeration.788554/
I would like to hook up a camera to my PC.It requires a serial port.I have an Aptiva p2.
It has 1 on board serial port,Com2,which I am using for an external USR 56kmodem.
Com1 has installed a lucent winmodem, which I am not using but is still installed.
My pc documentation shows Com's 1-4 available.Coms 1 and 3 share IRQ 4 and Coms 2 and 4 share IRQ 3.
My bios info is;
PCI slots 1-3 enabled
Plug and Play =yes
PCI irq sharing=yes.
My dumb question is:Given the above,is there is a way that I can connect this camera.
OK maybe dumb and I should know this but if I use a serial port adapter and plug a ps2 mouse in it I can not get it to work shoudld it work? And how do i get it to if it should it is brand new.

I'm trying to use a serial port on my PC, the GB board (H97-D3H) has a COM port header and I've used a back panel connector with cable to connect to this. I checked and serial port in enabled in BIOS. The driver is the Microsoft driver serial.sys and claims it is working. I believe the support for the COM header connection is through the chipset. I've downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from Gigabyte. I'm trying to connect to a device to update firmware and connection is via serial connection.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Would I need a specific driver that supports the chipset to run this serial port? Lots of USB-serial and virtual serial port drivers found by googling but can't find another driver for Win7 x64 to try. Any other suggestions on how to get the device to connect?
I tagged in on this post just because I'd like to know too. I've never been able to get a serial port working on Windows 7 and I'm not exactly a newbie. I have a USB to serial adaptor I'd like to use for a printer. I know the printer works because I've used it on a weighing scale. And the last time I posted on the subject, the response was pretty slim.http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/365719-serial-port-not-connecting.html
I need to install the driver for Sunix 4037A Multiport Serial Card (or at least this is the name from the product's harware properties). It have already downloaded it but whenever I try to install, Windows say that "was not installed properly".
Is it any way I can find the correct product's model name so I can easily find the driver again and so I won't have to open the PC case?
Hey there. I am wondering the approx. cost of adding in another Serial Port to my computer. I have a PenPad instead of a mouse and it has its own dedicated SP. My new PDA requires its own dedicated SP to link as well.
I have a good local guy who can do this kind of work, but I want to know the ballpark figure for the part and approx. how long it would take to do. I don't want to get him all excited about it before I know if I can afford the job.

I'm showing two issues in "Device Manager" (Other Devices)
1. "PCI Serial Port"
2. "Pci Simple Communications"
Don't know whether this is a Bios setting issue or driver issue!
I did make changes to the bios during a fresh install of Win 7, and of course, I didn't write down the original settings!
Everything seems to function alright, but I would like to get the issue notice cleaned up.
Thanks for any help here!
I suggest running this from Microsoft. Just to check things are okay.

I have a weather staion that still uses serial connections. It isn't being reada by the software so I used the old hyperlink thingy to check the com port. The test didn't echo any of my characters so HyperLink says the ort is not functioning. Nah.
I don't think the test works well with anything but a modem. Is there any other test I can do in Win XP to check the COM1 port.
Sevice manager says that the port is fine and the BIOS is set to Auto to select the COM number. The software must be opening the port cause if I change the COM number there, it says it can't open the port. So the other times it's opening something but maybe not sending data to it.
I want to make sure the serial port is working before I go off and replace weather hardware that was good.
You need to jumper pins 2 & 3 in the serial connector to get hyperterminal to echo characters. Here's a serial port loopback plug that you can fabricate to fully test the port. From the same site, here's some serial port test software.
Where can I find which device or program is using my COM 1 port in Win 2000?
I appreciate any help!
in the control panel under 'modem' or 'phone and modem options' (i forget what win2000 has) click on 'modems' (or details) it will list all devices (i think) that use ports and what port they are using
i have a task of displaying contents recievd on serial port as well as send data through it how shaould i do it.
I have an older program that I want to play networked, but the only choice for networking is to do it using a serial cable.
Since newer computers dont come with serial ports, I was wondering if there is a program that allows you to emulate a virtual serial port and pass it over to another computer via normal ethernet. The same program on the other computer will translate the information back into another virtual serial port?
I have an IBM Thinkpad. When I try to hook up to my Fluke DSP 4000 The serial port seems to be inactive or locked. When I go to my device manager I can't find com port 1.
How do I get my com port 1 or my serial port back.
Try to be as basic as posible with your answer. My PC skills are very limited BUT if you give me detailed instructions I can work it out. Phiel !!

Where can I find the drivers for the PCI Serial Port on this machine ? I loaded all the drivers from HP for this macine after an upgrade to windows 7 enterprise and this driver is not available. Thank you
Hi: You need this driver...manually install it if the auto install method doesn't work. This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75001-75500/sp75384.exehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/PCI-Serial-Port-drivers/td-p/5640777
i have a usb serial port adapter and i trying to figure out to set the usb jack on the desk top to be port1, port2, port3, or port4. if this is an easier process with xp i can change to the laptop
hi,,, im not quite with you on this,,,, do you mean when you click on the "safely remove hardware" button on the notifacation area near the clock,,, where it says "safely remove mass storage device, D:E:F:G:" etc???http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/156193/usb-serial-port-adapter/
Is there any way check or know the serial port information & do SERIAL OUTPUT TEST of my computer to make sure theres no problem without buying a software to test it like GRAHAM utilities OS/2 version...
Actually, you cannot do a real serial port test without some special hardware (and suitable software). Either some loopback adapter or a special diagnostics device.
For a quick "test", all you have to do is connect to some serial device and see if it works.
Windows comes with a Hyperterminal program that you can use with devices that know how to talk back to you in human-readable form.
A few days ago, I installed a PCI card in my computer and it has one serial and one parallel port.
When I checked to see if it is installed, the device manager says I have Com 1, Com 3 and Com 4. It seems like I should only have Com 1 (on motherboard) and Com 3 or Com 4.
Does this look right?
I am using Windows XP SP2 and my computer is a dual core pentium 4 with an intel motherboard.
i on my Lenovo T500- device manager- other device- pci serial port is having a yellow mark.
