I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just replaced hard drive and restored to factory defaults. Computer whirring. Was going to check into possible fan issues. Was afraid it might be hot. Removed battery. Continued working. When I got up to go get something I pulled the plug out and it of course shut down with no battery in it. Now it will not start again. I did the hard reset. Unplugged it and held down start button for 15 seconds, replugged in, but nothing. No lights on computer. AC adpater light is on. My laptop is infected with a lot of malware, so I figured I'd reset the whole thing by doing a factory reset (also, got the laptop from my dad who has a lot of unessecary things on it). I can't manage to do the factory reset without a Windows 7 disc. When i visit windows' sites i get a message saying i can't download the software because the laptop came with windows pre-installed.I have the lisence key for windows 7 of course. Does anyone know how I can manage to do a factory reset without the disc? I've tried to type F1 while restarting the computer, but all I get is a notification saying that I need the disc.. I'm going crazy! The same thing happens when I enter the reset menu from the control panel.Would be very happy if someone would be able to help me with this issue.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-Need-to-do-a-factory-reset-on-my-HP-Pavilion-Dv7-Notebook/td-p/5782349

Hi, I currently have a 1 TB HDD in my laptop, but with Windows 10, my disk usage is often 100% (even after disabling a lot of stuff). I would like to upgrade to an SSD. I have a few questions that I would like your help with: Is it allowed to upgrade to SSD? (I mean does the BIOS check something like hardware signatures, and would it reject a new drive?)Should I look for a particular size when searching SSDs online? Will I be able to retain my Windows license? (I can currently create a USB from Microsoft's tool and reinstall Windows. If I change hardware, will Microsoft still allow me to retain my lisence?)What other precautions should I take?I am currently looking at this SSD. Would this (and similar) work with my laptop? I recently "upgraded" from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The other day I think my hard disk reached 100% and I got the following error code "9GC47F-5RE83S-MFGH5F-60XF03" - what does this code mean? Perhaps a virus filled up my disk? i have been running antivirus checks weekly ( SpyBot ). I recently installed Kodi and am wondering if it used up all my emaining space...I get the WIndows 10 screen but have no keyboard response when i hit any key so i can't get to the Windows 10 logon prompt to enter my password - it kust hangs up just before you get to that prompt. Is my system crashed permanently? What can I do to fix it?
Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the boot issues you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your g3 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation. my computer, on boot, will engage the fan immediately. It sounds like it is coming from the area of the cooling fan, but I dont know for sure. The only way I can turn the sound off is to reboot at least once, sometimes twice. This does not appear to have anything to do with heat, because the computer is cold on boot up. Within 20 minutes after rebooting to get rid of the loud fan noise, the noise will reappear. I then have to go through the same sequence of reboot to get rid of the noise. The noise is steady, no up and down. When this first started, the noise would come on, then fade away after about a minute or so. Now it will stay on steady until rebooted. Any help will be appreciated.ThanksHelmuthttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/pavilion-notebook-17-f223nr-fan-or-disc-drive-noise-on/td-p/5819832

I shut down my laptop today and went shopping. When I came home, it wouldn't turn on. This has happened a couple of times before and I've tried giving it a hard reset. I tried turning it on without the battery and just the power cord and nothing. The light where the power cord goes in is on when it is plugged in. I tried everything and still won't start. My warranty for this laptop is gone and don't know what else to try. Please help!
Hi @krakaholyknight, Thank you for your query. I am happy to lend a helping hand. To confirm that I have the correct product, yours is a HP Stream Notebook-11-d007na? I understand that your notebook was working when you shut it down. When you tried turning it on again it would not start. This has occurred a couple of times before and a hard reset resolved the issue. You tried removing the battery but that did not help. You do see a light on the power port when connected to AC power. Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10). Please let me know the outcome. Last night I was using hard Won't / 12 up power Dell - after start XPS reset my XPS w in laptop mode on battery and it finally got down to of capacity nbsp At that point it shut off the screen and I moved to my office to connect the AC adapter thinking that it would simply turn the screen on when there was sufficient power nbsp The screen never came back I waited - minutes but the battery was charging nbsp At that point I attempted a hard reset by holding the power button in the on position for - seconds nbsp When I tried to power up nothing happened nbsp No backlit keyboard no screen nothing but the fan nbsp The light never came on in the switch either So I tried another hard reset with the same results nbsp I even tried powering up with the quot D quot key held down for on board diagnostics and got nothing but the fan startup I thought it might be an overheat issue so I let it set for an hour and tried again - nothing but the fan It appears that the laptop doesn t pass Dell XPS 12 - Won't start / power up after hard reset the initial diagnostics and won t even get to the point where the bios starts to load nbsp nbsp I truly thought my laptop was dead and ready for service nbsp I took it into the office the next day so I could call Dell Pro Support Just nbsp for giggles I plugged it in with the AC adapter and tried to turn it on - viola nbsp it started working again I had this problem once before and it started working after - hard resets I was working on a proposal when the laptop went down I tried hard resets over a hour period with no results It baffles me why it would start OK the next morning I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem nbsp I m running the A BIOS the most current and my XPS is configured with GB of memory and GB SSD with an i processor and Intel wireless card Any suggestions on diagnosing this The hard part is when if fails the failure is total - you can t get to the diagnostics When it comes back everything is fine and there are no events in the event log that relate to the failure
OK - I've narrowed it down to the following:
When the laptop is "asleep" it eventually goes into power down mode. It appears that connecting a power adapter to the laptop at this point will cause it to go into a confused state where, when the power button is pushed, the laptop fan comes on but no light on the power button or on the keyboard - the screen stays blank. The laptop fan runs (it's very quiet - you have to hold the laptop up to your ear to hear it.)
I don't know if the cause is a low battery or if the problem is simply with the state of the CPU at power down. I just know that when it happens, it if I disconnect the power adapter and hold the power button until the laptop fan shuts off, the hard reset allows it to come back normally. If you leave the power adapter attached, it will charge the battery but will not allow the laptop to start.
I've repeated this experiment several times with the same result every time. I'm guessing there's a bug in the BIOS that sets an error state that won't clear with the power adapter attached. Doing the hard reset without the adapter appears to clear the problem reliably.

Hi I have a HP Pavilion dv5z 1000 notebook. Recently I had installed a program for PC cleanup that, instead of making mu system faster, made it slow. I then un installed the program but my laptop became so slow that I could not even play games in it which had worked smoothly before. I then did a virus scan and found that 2 infected files had benn detected. For some strange reason, the files would not get deleted or repaired. I then decided that doing a factory reset would be the best option. However, there is no factory restore option in the Control Panel and I do not even have the windows installation disk. How can I reset my notebook? Please help me out.

I have installed Windows 10, a clean copy of windows installation has been done with full format of c drive. So, after a successfull installation of win10 in my HP Pavilion dv6-7024tx, I ran windows updates to make sure it gets all driver for its hardware automatically, it did though and was absoultely fine expect one audio problem relating to micro (not working), I couldn't notice that time. I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. In my previous Win7 which was given in factory default setup, had BeatAudio driver and I saw that software and everything was Okay earlier.
Hi: See if this IDT audio driver works for you...Install and restart the PC. Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?s more than one USB Root Hub device, repeat these steps for each one.)4. Turn off the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option, and clickOK button. Solution 3: Go to Device Manager to check for the driver statusThe problem most probably is caused by driver issues. Drivers may not be updated to work with Windows 10. If that?s the case, you can resolve the problem by updating the drivers. 1. In Device Manager, expand Other devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers.2. If you see drivers with yellow mark under these two categories. You need to update the drivers. You can update the drivers manually.Alternatively, you can use a driver update tool to help update drivers automatically. Driver Easy is one of driver update tools online. After you install Driver Easy, use it to scan your computer to detect all problem drivers. If there is problem with the USB driver, Driver Easy will detect it and recommend the new driver. With Driver Easy, the USB issue can be resolved easily. Driver Easy has Free version and Paid version. You can use the Free version to download new drivers, but you are required to use the downloaded driver files to install the drivers manually step by step. And the download speed is limited. To save more time, you can use the Paid version. With Paid version, all drivers will be updated automatically. More over, you can enjoy free technical support guarantee. If you use the Paid version to try resolving the problem but the problem persists, you can contact us for further assistance. Paid version offers 30-day money back guarantee. You can ask for a full refund if you want within the guarantee period. If the problem cannot be resolved, the USB ports might be damaged. You may need to replace the damaged ports. If the solutions above do not work for you, you can take your PC to the repair store to have it fixed, as the problem might be caused by hardware issues.

My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.
wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.
How do i Screenshot? I just got this computer and i dont know how to screenshot??? and by the way messenger doesnt let me make video calls or normal calls?????

Hi everyone,Can anyone help me in identifying the problem with my HP Pavilion Laptop. All of the sudden my HP Pavilion Laptop Display (model-15-n219sa) stopped working with black & white line on the display. I can project the display on the TV screen with the help of HDMI interface but nothing on the laptop display apart from black & white lines. Can anyone guess what will be the problem. I checked the display panel cable / connector found everything intact.Regards,Dineshhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Pavilion-Notebook/td-p/5736925
I don't remember my password and I am locked out of my laptop. How do I recover this? I don't have a recovery disc. CJ
cigambino Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If you Google for Trinity Rescue Kit, you will find a site where you can download an ISO file that you can then use to make a boot CD to then use to reset your password. Once you have that file, download and install ImgBurn and use the Write Image to Disk option to create a bootable CD.Good Luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Notebook-PC/td-p/5755604

I forgot my password and now when I turn it on it says enter administrator password or power on password how can I get past this
It sounds like you made the mistake of entering a BIOS admin or power on poassword. If it does not provide a system lock code after entering the wrong password three times in a row, there isn't much we can do to help you. If you can't get past the power on password, even performing a factory recovery is not a possibility. Contact HP for warranty service or out of warranty service.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/How-can-I-factory-reset-my-HP-Envy-17-notebook-PC/td-p/5762100

how to reset password of hp pavilion x2 and i dont have usb with password
If you are talking about the Windows password then you may need to perform a recovery on the PC (factory reset)There are other untested ways on google but these can be risky and I would not suggest doing these. However, you can still backup your data using Peppermint live Linux OS and a USB Hard Drive+USB Flash Disk. You will need another PC to create a bootable Peppermint USB linux disk. Check the link below; applies to all OS'shttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/256518-peppermint-live-cd-dvd-usb-create-emergency-backup.htmlhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/how-to-reset-password-of-hp-pavilion-x2/td-p/5731653

Does anyone on the forum have this particular laptop working under Windows 7 (on HP's site, it shows that the only supported OS are XP/2000/Vista (32/64 bit)?
The machine can support a max of 2GB of ram, and is a dual core 1.8Ghz processor.
I will have the laptop in my hands tomorrow to examine in depth...
That likely means those sre the OSes that HP supports. They may not have shipped this model with Win 7, hence no support. The spec you list are ok for 32 bit and nominal for 64 bit. This tool can help if you download on the PC in question: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windowshttp://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/179953-hp-pavilion-tx1120us-notebook-pc.html

I want to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8GB (16 if possible) and upgrade the OS to one with a longer support life - I'm thinking Windows 7 or 8.1. Is it best to do the upgrades serially and which should I do first? What RAM should I buy i.e. ordering info? Which OS do you recommend and where is the best place to buy it and the preferred media. Thanks to those forum members in advance for your advice.butchiepoo
Hi, Please use the following manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf RAM: page 2 gives you RAM specs and max RAM supported. Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. For OS, you can buy from a computer shop or order from Microsoft. Please note again, this machine is 8 years old. Please do not waiste more money on it. Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrade-HP-Pavilion-Notebook-RAM-and-OS/td-p/5754478

My HP Pavilion Notebook Product No: P1A79UA#ABA On Windows 10 keeps hibernating for no apparent reason. This has happened since I bought the laptop new about 10 months ago. Today it happened about 15 times (sometimes it will go weeks at a time without happening). This occurs while I'm actively working on the computer (e.g. actively typing or browsing), not just when the computer is idle.I use the HP recommended power settings and have the advanced setting of Hibernate set to Never.Any help would be great.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/hp-pavilion-notebook-keeps-hibernating/td-p/5849329

You dmps are showing code 116, and that can be a problem as small as a driver, but can be hardware, such as memory or worse
You can update the driver.
If it is anything else it is most likely hardware related. Since it is new, you may want to exercise the Warranty. I know from past experience, too many changes will void the warranty.

Try performing a repair installation. This will preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.
Instructions for a Windows 7 Repair installation.
A Windows 7 Repair Installation will require a installation disc.
If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 at Windows 7 Forums. You will need to download the same version of Windows 7 that you have installed, This image is hosted by the Digital River store which is an official distribution partner of Microsoft. This is a genuine untouched image which is safe to download.
Attention: If you do have a Windows installation disc, skip Part A and go to Part B, Step 1b.
Part A, Steps 1a - 6a
The ISO image will need to be burned to a DVD in order to create a bootable installation disc.
1a) To burn a ISO file to a DVD please download ImgBurn and install it.
2a) Insert a blank DVD into your CD/DVD drive tray, and then close the tray.
3a) Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc.
4a) Click on the Browse for a file icon:
5a) Locate the ISO file you want to burn, and click on the Open button.
6a) Click on the blue arrow to start burning the bootable DVD.
Please note: In order to boot from this DVD you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order, and the hdd is the second device.
Part B, Steps 1b - 10b
1b) Place the installation disc in the tray of the CD/DVD drive, close the tray and restart the computer.
2b) You will be prompted to press any key to start the installation, I find the space bar handy.
At this point the setup process will load files, this will take several minutes.
3b) You will now need to choose the Language, Time, currency format, and Keyboard or input method that you'd like to use.
After this is done click on Next.
4b) Click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom-left of the Install Windows window.
This link will begin the Windows 7 System Recovery Options.
5b) System Recovery Options will now search your hard drive(s) for any Windows 7 installations. This will take several minutes.
No participation is required on your part at this time, wait till it has finished and the next window opens.
6b) Choose the Windows 7 installation that you'd like to perform the Startup Repair on, then click on Next
7b) Click on the Startup Repair link from list of recovery tools in System Recovery Options.
For a future reference, there are several other diagnostic and recovery tools available in the Windows 7 System Recovery Options including System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, and Command Prompt.
8b) The Startup Repair tool will now search for problems in the system files.
If Startup Repair finds a problem with any system files the tool may suggest a solution which you will need to confirm, or may solve the problem automatically.
9b) Startup Repair will now attempt to repair whatever problems it found with system files.
Note: If Startup Repair did not find any problems with system files you won't see this step.
Important: Your computer may or may not restart several times during this repair process. This is normal, you should allow it to continue until you see the Restart your computer to complete the repairs window.
10b) Click on Finish, this will restart your computer.
It is possible that the Startup Repair will not be able to fix the problem. If the Startup Repair tool determines ... Read more

Hi, The following link shows it specs: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04781158 It has 2GB of dedicated video card and MAY (yes may) have up to over 3,000 MB of available system RAM (to make around 6GB). It can go up to 6GB when required, 4.1 is a snapshot number when you are looking at. Again, this number is not a fixed number. Hi, purchased the stated item no less than 18 months ago and today, whilst writing a job application and without any forewarning, the system started making a clunking sound and switched off. tried to turn on and went into automatic repair mode. Tried to do a system recovery, unable as it says the device needs repairing. Any ideas? surely this must be a manufacturing fault? HP website is also unable to tell me my warranty status. help appreciated. It's a good sign when you don't even understand the "Choose Board" selections. My 3.5-year-old HP Pavilion g6 shuts down without warning. The Support Center has been WAY less than helpful. I'm having problem with my HP Pavilion laptop. When I first got it which is 3 days ago it was fine. But somehow it didn't boot up suddenly. Blank screen, no led indicators, nothing. The battery indicator did light up when I connect the charger suggesting that the battery is fine. When I press the power button it does nothing. The power button did lights up though. I did try leaving it just to see if it actually going to boot and it does, but only after 4 hours. But now it just won't boot. Please help. I can't send it for warranty until next week since I'm away. Thanks in advance.
I forgot to tell that I have tried all available method like hard reset. Didn't do anything for me. P.S. -My laptop has non-removable battery.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/HP-Pavilion-notebook-is-not-booting/td-p/5742441

My HP Pavilion dv7-1014ca Entertainment Notebook is running incredibly hot. The fan is on pretty much all the time. The BIOS is fully updated and I've vaccumed the vents and the fan. I keep my laptop on hard, flat surfaces, and yet at times it's almost too hot to touch. the entire bottom section of the notebook will be remarkably hot. Any idea what the problem could be? I've also had moments when my notebook shuts down without any warning for seemingly no reason. Could it be overheating?
that's because are not good....I have the same problem with my 2 (TWO) HP pavilions....nobody could explain why, not in England, not in Italy....when became too hot they shutdown....I swore t not buy HP anymore....http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-dv7-notebook-running-way-too-hot/td-p/286340

Hello there I m needing help diagnosing a non-working HP Pavilion ZE I received it from a friend after it failed None of the laptop leds would turn on and there were no POST beeps of any kind The HDD Help diagnosing HP notebook Pavilion and CD unit would turn -the floppy won t but it might be a BIOS setting- but the screen won t show anything at all After double-checking the obvious LCD disabled brightness setting power supply output etc I checked internet and found that the DC jack is a common problem with these laptops Sure enough on this one it was a little loose but even after fixing it all the symptoms stay the same I have tried re-setting all the connectors and looking for any obvious damage on the mobo there s none The weird thing is that if I leave the laptop quot on quot Fan amp HDD turning after a while the CPU and the Help diagnosing HP Pavilion notebook VIA chipset get warm Should I just assume that the BIOS Help diagnosing HP Pavilion notebook is fried or are these symptoms of a defunct mobo Is there any guru around that has dealt with this problem before Thanks for your help JR nbsp
Can you try an external monitor? Disconnecting all extra hardware (drives) and replacing the memory are some things to try.
Nothing weird about CPU and chipset getting warm - BIOS is exactly that (Basic) and does not bother with power savings and such.
I just purchased this notebook earlier this year and I'm disappointed to say that it is already no longer holding a charge unless connected to a power source. The charging icon also continues to stay in the same spot even after hours of charging. I'm not sure if a new battery would resolve this or not. Let me know what you think the best solution is! Thanks!! Katiehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Pavilion-17-1226NR-Notebook/td-p/5621032
