G62 notebook - recovering from unsuccessful attempt to upgra...

Q: G62 notebook - recovering from unsuccessful attempt to upgra...

Hello. First let me tell you about my machine:
HP G62x-400 CTO Notebook
Model # LD642AV
[personal information removed]
Windows 7 home premium

I attempted to upgrade ton Windows 10. At the very end of the process, I got an error message saying that the upgrade failed. I thought -- so I am back to Windows 7 and that is OK. But now, I receive frequent error messages telling me that various "entry points" can not be found on DLL files that I believe are in Windows 10 ONLY. How do I get rid of the problem?

Thank you for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Craig3428 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Wish I had good news for you, but I don't. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!So, while you DO have Win7 back, most likely, something got corrupted in the process. To further complicate matters, while I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.Since HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Understand that the first thing Recovery Media does is reformat the hard drive -- erasing everything from the drive. So, BEFORE you attempt this, you need to save off all the files and data you want to retain.Good Luck

Hello,
trying to install Nikon camera D3100 software.
Put the CD in and nothing comes up, no install wizard.
The PDF for the manual comes up.
Tried going in and removing some old camera software.
Also tried "add program".
Nothing seems to be working and it seems like such a simple thing.
Thanks for any help and for not laughing at me.
Well, okay, maybe a chuckle

As far as Steam goes, I, and no one I know that uses it, has had a problem with it, but as far as I know, we all have it set to not run at start up and only use it when actually playing something. The only program similar to Steam that I can think of is Origin and that is only for EA games. Both will eat up some resources if left running all the time, so show her how to exit out of steam from the notification area and set steam to not run at startup (can be done within Steam's settings). If you have any particular issues/concerns with using Steam, don't be afraid to ask.

I don't know what to tell you about Bonjour, other than get a different phone/mp3 player.

The list of programs was not changed in the registry for some reason. You can use CCleaner to check for references to Java in the registry and remove Java from the list of installed programs.

I'd go with $20 or more an hour.

Im having lots of issues with Windows 8.1 so I have to reinstall. Store/Settings arent opening. 5 minutes or so of a black screen and cursor on Start up.

I attempted to go here: Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Microsoft Windows Help

How can I reinstall Windows 8.1? Am I really going to have to re-install Windows 8 from scratch and then Update again to Win 8.1?!

I'm considering the Ideapad 510 15" (Part Number 80SR0055CF).  i5-6200U, 4GB onboard RAM, 1TB 5400RPM hard drive.

Can I upgrade the RAM myself? I see some 510 models have 4GB onboard + a 4GB DIMM so I'm assuming that if I get the 4GB onboard they'll be an empty DIMM slot I could add RAM to, is that the case?  If so, what's the max memory I could add?

What about the hard drive, can it be upgraded/replaced?  At some point I would probably want to put in an SSD.

If someone could link to the hardware maintenance manual that would be really useful, then I could check these things myself.  I can't find the manual for this particular laptop.  Thank you!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual It uses DDR333 aka PC2700 SO-DIMM maximum 2 gigs.  This memory should work for you: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-1GB-DDR-PC2700-2GB-333-PC-2700-SODIMM-LAPTOP-MEMORY-/370498461245?pt=US_M... For the replacement procedure, see page 5-15. The hard drive is shown at Page 5-7.  The hard drive type is EIDE aka PATA. This is "legacy" (obsolete) hardware and larger sized PATA drives are getting hard to find. There is no size constraint imposed by the BIOS or hardware, but the market may not supply you with anything bigger than about 320 gigs and it is going to be expensive to find a new one. The biggest I ever saw was a 500 gig but I have not seen one of those in years. You want to try to find a 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm model although 7200s are extermely hard to locate. 4200 rpm models are just too slow to use.  Here is a 320 gig on eBay for about $100: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WD-Western-Digital-320GB-2-5-IDE-Hard-Drive-HDD-PATA-Notebook-laptop-5400-rp...  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

After I uninstalled Atheros driver, a right screen Windows 10 style panel immediately appeared--either on notifications panel or in WiFi settings page, was sleepy, don't remember which--containing a labeled entry box for my wifi password. I entered the password and boom, the wifi worked. It's been working since.Again thanks. Will mark solved.

It can be done. I used to have one of those model series and if I recall correctly the SATA drive plugs right into the motherboard so you do not need an adapter just a caddy.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DV7-1000-Series-2-5-HDD-Hard-Drive-Disk-Caddy-Enclosure-AM01Q000400-/1522... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6Qouyng8hQ  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My HP desktop PC, Envy 700-220ef, upgraded itself to Windows 10 a few days ago, without my blessing. Since them, at startup time it goes directly from the BIOS/POST screen to the Windows blue logo, so I get no chance, as I did before with Windows 8.1, to see the UEFI menu and select from it the operating system or boot source I want. How can I get the UEFI menu back ? Thanks.

@jpmarinier?, welcome to the forum. You should right click on the Start button in the lower left corner: select Command Prompt (Admin) / at the Prompt copy and paste this command: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes / it will tell you that the command has been completed successfully / type Exit and reboot.  I did this and it gave me the Bootmgr screen. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

A:Graphics Driver error message started after Windows 10 upgra...

Hi @Gneiss, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP Pavilion 15-p050ca Notebook and a error message Display drive Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I would uninstall all that are listed in the Device Manager. Click the arrow next to Display Adapters to expand that category. Right-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time. Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software. The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driverAfter the installation is complete, restart your Notebook. It should automatically update with a new Driver and software. If you need to update the Display Adapters. I would follow the method of right clicking on them in the Device Manager only. This will update the drivers on your system to work with Windows 10. Please get back to me how this goes. If this post helps you to resolve the issue you can click the Thumbs up icon to show gratitude! Please click the Accept as Solution, to the right of the Thumbs up icon, if your issues is resolved.   Thanks.

Hello, I'm having trouble upgrading Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10.  The installation (manual and automatic) fails due to the incompatibility of ProtectTools Security Manager (according to Microsoft). This is also described in a document I found on the HP website: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5212912&docId=emr_na-c04734799&docLocale... .Before I can uninstall ProtectTools, I need to unistall other HP tools, like Device Access Manager,... And there lies my problem: how do I uninstall Device Access manager? It's not listed under 'Programs and features'. I tried uninstall tools like CCleaner and Revo Unistaller, but they can't find it either. I have installed the latest version of ProtectTools, via the SoftPaq Download Manager and disabled all features in ProtectTools, as far as I can tell. How do I uninstall the ProtectTools suite? Best regards,Wim.

Hi,I've been considering buying a new GPU for my SFF M92p.I currently have 1GB 620 GT nvidia GPU & I would like to upgrade to a 2GB GPU.  i7-3770 Cpu 3.4GHzWindows 1016GB DDR3 RAM1T HDPSU - 240 Watt I need professional assistance on : - Can i find 2GB GPU to use on this current system @ 240 ?- If not, would i need to change my PSU ? And where do i buy such a unit ? What's it called ? [It's for gaming]

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p 2988-E2U [Video card upgra...

The GTX 750 Ti could work with a SFF M92p.   Upgrade to the latest BIOS beforehand, CD ISO method is most reliable.   Check that there aren't any taller heatsinks on the motherboard that could interfere with the graphics card (refer to photos of the card.)

Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply.

I can confirm that this MSI brand low-profile  GTX 750 Ti 2GB  card works perfectly in my M93p SFF machine without upgrading the PSU:   MSI N750-Ti-2GD5TLP

Measuring the power draw running Prime95 (CPU benchmark) , FurMark (GPU benchmark) , charging mobile phone via USB and copying large files at the same time , it stays below 190W.   Have been running this for several hours. I have also been playing Fallout 4 (FullHD, ultra textures, 60 FPS) for 100 hours without any problems.   As the case is quite compact, I was worried about the temperature but it stays below 80C for the GPU at full power over extended periods of time (about 25C ambient temp in the room).

Installation is ok. Just mount the low profile bracket and move the PCIe 1x WiFi card (if you have one) into another slot.  Preferably leave an empty slot next to the graphics card.

Hi. I am in the process of trying to recover files. My whole D drive (the 78,148MB - see jpg attached) says it needs to be reformatted and so all the files are gone. I download a recovery program (thanks to suggested from this forum -tks!) and it shows that the files are on my computer. Now I guess I have to have somewhere to put all the files when I recover them.

I am picturing I just need to purchase a 100MB removable hard drive. Then I will just have to plug it in via USB and then transfer using the recovery program. Kind of just like when I transfer music to my mp3 player. Obviously my level of computer knowledge is NOVICE. Is that all I will need to do?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am facing two different complications with external usb's

Problem 1: Hardware (?)
This usb IS recognized and mounts - however, the files on it are damaged - possibly because of hardware erosion...
I think ddrescue and safecopy are supposed to be good programs for this type of failure, but I do not know how to use them

Problem 2: Software (?)
This usb is recognized in the device manager, but not in the My Computer (so it doesn't mount). I think I can reformat the usb to make it functional again, but before I do that, I want to recover whatever files are on the drives

Any guide on how i can resolve these two issues?

I've been trying to download and when it gets to 99% it will just stop and leave my screen. I can not get any repair tools considering i am unable to download or even save anything to my desktop.

A:Another unsuccessful download

Try another browser, especially if you are using FireFox. If using IE, before going for another browser, go to tools, internet options, advanced, reset. I bet that works.

I do realize that you may not be able to try another browser because you cant download, but give it a try.

See if you can download in safe mode. You may have to select safe mode with network options, if availble.

Just tried to see if my HDTV could act as a second monitor and can't seem to get it to work. I get the Vista wallpaper and got the icons once after I changed the resolution I think. If I set the TV to primary monitor it works although virtually any folder I open does not display on the screen but seems to disappear off to the left. In my CCC I tried to duplicate but chose not to because it said doing so would disable the desktop and I don't understand what that'll do. If anyone can aid me here I'd be grateful. Thanks.

A:TV As Second Monitor Unsuccessful

Solved it. You need to uncheck "extend" in the Vista display options for the second monitor then in CCC (I have an ATI card) "duplicate" it through right clicking it under "Creating and Arranging Desktops."

Reboot the computer and hit the F8 key to take you to the Advanced Boot options (Safe Mode, Last Known Good etc) First try the Last Known Good Configuration. If that fails, then see if you can get to Safe Mode with Networking. If that fails then boot off of the XP CD or restore disc and get to the Recovery Console. There type chkdsk /P and hit enter. The check disk utility will try and fix any file errors.

A:error 2095, still unsuccessful

Search for unistall

It's not unknown for install writers to get things wrong. The required uninstall.log might (a) be in some other place (b) not have been installed (c) been deleted by accident (d) been removed by a previous attempt at uninstalling.

Use 'search for a file' to look for it - remember there will be dozens of uninstall.log files - look for one in the sort of place described. If none exist, there is really a need to install quicktime again.

A:Printing to File Unsuccessful

Are you using Windows 10? Googles and found possible registry issue with the print to function with file names or folder names with commas. Try creating a different folder where you are saving and makes sure neither have a comma. If that isn't relevant, what browser are you using? Does it effect other browsers?

Something else you can try is restarting the print spooler. This should restart on reboot, but if not, go to Windows Key + R > services.msc > Double click on "Print Spooler" > Make sure set to automatic and start if not already started. Have a few other ideas, but lets try those first.

Have been reading through the forums but unable to find the answer to my problem I purchased a new GB SATA disk to install WIN -bit on it but after several tries the installation always ends in quot completing installation quot step reboots and then the installer tells me the computer encountered installations unsuccessful 7 Several Windows and error and it gets into a loop of restarting I have removed everything even my pci-sound card to no avail The first Several unsuccessful Windows 7 installations time I burned the ISO it was at x speed later I reburned at x speed but I feel some data is there somewhere even as I have formatted the drive several times I have a functional Windows XP Professional SP on the main hard drive so I m not willing to torn apart my pc just to let Win to install seems an unnecesary annoyance to me I have a Quad Core Q gb RAM DDR a Nvidia GT and two sata drives one with windows xp and the other a brand new By the way now I have like win failed installations in my boot menu Any help appreciated I am about to resign to have XP all the way to a new version of Windows

A:Several unsuccessful Windows 7 installations

What is your ultimate intention: to have just Win 7? Or do you want both XP and Win 7?

Have you disconnected your XP drive before you attempt any of this?

When you attempt the Win 7 install, are you choosing custom install early in the process?

Are you trying to install 7 when you are booted into XP?

Or are you booting from the Win 7 disc?

My IE8 has some 'history' that it simply will not delete.

I did the usual 'Tools -> Delete Browsing History', but it only deletes data from today. When I type in the address bar, all the history from last weekend still appears.

I tried logging in as another user and deleting my TEMP directory, and lots of other things, but nothing has worked.

Any ideas on how to 'force' delete all this old history, and how I might find where it is hiding?

I recently got a laptop and D Link router and wanted to set up a wireless network with my desktop as well. All computers run Vista. I was on tech support with DLink but they couldn't help me--everything we tried failed. I'm wondering if the problem is with my DSL line. My broadband DSL is not always on. When my computer shuts down, my broadband connection closes, and does not start automatically when my computer restarts. I have to click connect to network first before I can get on line. Might this have something to do with my problem?

You have to remove NET Framework 3.5 by using NET Framework Cleanup Tool Aaron Stebner's WebLog : .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide
and next reinstall again NET Framework 3.5 from full package http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...dotnetfx35.exe

and then istall all hotfixes relate to 3.5

Hello. I was attacked by Mr. Trovi a couple days ago. I googled it and killed all the programs it added, 16 in all in less than a minute, file extensions and some kind of rerouting deal. Can't remember. Took five hours. It's still there trying to start all over again and locking me up in everything I do. I then googled fixes specific to windows 7, and this site comes up for most successful repairs, on, well everything really but Trovi also. Registered, performed search, and found help is specific to each user. So... Help? Thank you, T (I'm on my iPad or I couldn't even do this)

Well spellcheck on the iPad changed the title which can't be edited to Trovi so I reckon no reply.

Hi,

When I attempted to schedule a task using the Scheduled Task tool in Control Panel, I received the following error messages:
The new task has been created, but may not run because the account information could not be set.
The specific error is:

Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.

Any assistance to resolve would be appreciated. Thanks!

I deleted the file that un-allowed it to finish correctly but still shows the file that's causing the problem.

The files gone, I have no clue how to bring it back on anything

A:System restore was unsuccessful.

Are you trying to clean your system restore entries? Just turn off System Restore, right click on each drive and open "Disk Cleanup"->"Clean up system files", check "Delete all but most recent restore points", restart your system and turn on system restore again. This way you get rid of the file that un-allowed system restore and after rebooting, manually create a restore point.

Every time I try restoring my pc to an earlier time, system restore starts normally..I choose a restore point..pc restarts and it says .."System restore "UNSUCCESSFUL" ..no changes where made to your files and settings..try choosing a different restore point" ..Why is it so? I have not installed any antivirus and I have even tried creating a new restore point and restoring it to that point..but of no avail..So matter of corruption of restore point is not possible(sort of-I don't know)...what can be the problem and how can I solve this...I am really scared, if something happens wrong how will I restore my pc?

A:System restore unsuccessful everytime!

Don't worry about the restore points. I have the same problem, and a reinstall might be the only solution.
What I do is use Macrium Relfect, in fact it is better than restore points.
With Macrium, once a week put an image on your hard drive of your OS. Any problem, you just reinstall with the image. It works better than SR.

A:Repair Install Windows 7 Unsuccessful

When you say upgrading windows, what is it that you are doing? You are repairing Win 7 right, is there the option of reinstalling windows 7 while saving your necessities to a thumbdrive?

or, I would make sure you don't have a virus. uninstall McAfee if you will and install Malewarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials. Update and then run both of those. defragment as well. I would go a step further and remove programs you didn't need or use. After this, I would try another system repair. If this doesn't work, someone else may have to guide you to do something else

One of our users gets a spell check message every time he sends an email. Spell check works when he is typing a message, it will find and correct spelling. But every time he Sends, he gets this message: "The spelling check was unsuccessful. Do you want to send anyway?"

Does anyone know why he would get this message every time.

He is on Windows XP and using Office XP. Outlook (2002) is his email client and he uses Word as his email editor.

Ive tried all of the recommended ways to install the SP1 for Vista yet no success. Also i read you might have to update the BIOS but i get an error code 80041001. Does the BIOS Update prevent me from installing the SP1.

Thanks for any Information

A:Service Pack Install Unsuccessful

The only time you need a bios update is when something on the board is bust by a corrupted loss of programming or an update offers a fix for a newer model. The service pack is strictly Windows related there.

Hopefully you manually made a system restore point in advance. That will bring you back if any problems other then that are being seen.

The best option when going through the regular update process and running into any problems is to download the full SP first to a folder and disable any firewalls and other protections prior to starting up the installer. Some of those may flag the update.

The full stand alone SP1 is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

I have an Acer Laptop computer. In order to upgrade to Windows 7 I need to install Vista Service pack 1. This I have downloaded and started installation. However at the end of the process I get the message " Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer."
This process was completed successfully and I tried the installation again after disabling Kaspersky Security. Now the "Reverting changes" does not stop. I cannot stop my computer and even if I take out the battery when I put it back and start the computer agian it just comes back up with the same message. Any ideas please?

Is there any good solutions else?

A:dell bios update unsuccessful

Please remove the service tag from your post. Consider it to be personal info and you don't share it in open forums like this.
If you tried clearing BIOS by removing the battery and pressing / holding the power button for at least 10 sec, then your motherboard is probably bricked and will need to be replaced...

I tried to overwrite a backup file (.bkf) with a new backup of my 60GB My Docs on a NTFS 120GB drive. It failed due to lack of space - it appears to append to the existing file before deleting the original.
I therefore deleted all the .bkf files intending to retry afresh.
I've screwed up big time because I now have no free space on the HDD even though the .bkf is no longer visible using Explorer! I should have about 90GB.
Norton disk doctor and speed disk are no help.
I cannot reformat it because of the data already on it.
Healp!

RESOLVED Windows XP Start-Up Unsuccessful BSOD My fiance has a MSI Wind Netbook It s running XP sp i believe Since yesterday it has refused to start properly It begins the loading process but stops before too long It says that Windows has not been able to begin successfully and it gives some start-up options They are safe mode safe mode with network safe mode with command prompt last known good configuration starts windows normally No matter what you choose it begins loading but quickly flashes a blue screen BSOD for only a fraction of a second and restarts That begins the whole process all over again She said it began (BSOD?) XP Start-Up Windows Unsuccessful after some updates requested to restart her system She claims it was the Avast anti-virus but I ve never seen Avast ask for a restart She can t tell me specifically what updates they were only Windows XP Start-Up Unsuccessful (BSOD?) that she clicked quot restart later quot for about a week before Windows XP Start-Up Unsuccessful (BSOD?) finally clicking quot restart now quot I ve been very adamant about keeping her system free of viruses and malware Any thoughts or suggestions Thanks nbsp

A:Windows XP Start-Up Unsuccessful (BSOD?)

I second this, it just happened to me this mourning as i woke up to the intermittent beeping of the mother board 6 or 7 times as it tried to restart itself...

POST runs successfully, doesn't show any problems, then we get the previously mentioned 5 options, then I see the windows launch screen with loading bar for half a second, then it restarts itself and the process begins again.

For what it's worth, I also have Avast, but the restart request would have happened when I was asleep, so I never saw it.

I just tried clearing CMOS (i think that's what its called) and taking out the mother board battery, but that didn't help. Ive seen that people recommend booting from a CD, but seeing how I'm in my college dorm with no access to any original CDs, I guess I'm out of ideas....

Believe it or not, I'm having trouble sharing the Windows 7 Public folder.

There are two computers on my network: One has Windows 7 and the other has Windows 8. The Windows 7 PC can see the Windows 8 Public folder. The Windows 8 PC cannot see the Windows 7 Public folder.

I do not use a Homegroup.

In the Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center I have the following settings for the "Home or Work" profile:Network discovery is turned on
File and printer sharing is turned on
Public folder sharing is turned on ("Turn on sharing so anyone with network access...")
File sharing connections - Use 128-bit encryption to help protect...
Password protected sharing is turned on.

It seems like everything is setup correctly, and yet when I right-click on the Windows 7 Public folder and go to the Sharing tab, it says the Public folder is "Not Shared"! Maybe I'm misunderstanding something? How can I fix this?
