Hi, does anyone know if there is a list of compatible embedded LTE chips that will work on a X1 Carbon 20FB? The reason why I ask this is bec the current model, EM7455, only operates at some frequencies that some abroad contries do not support and the older models such as the EM7355 support those frequencies. One being GSM. I tired to install a EM7355 into my 20FB laptop but the bios isn't allowing it. Thanks!
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
EM7455 is versatile enough and supports a lot of 4G/LTE including LTE-A and 3G bands worldwide. It does not support 2G (GPRS/EDGE) access technology.

Hi, I've got an X1 Carbon 20FB (4th gen), and noticed it doesn't have Lenovo System Update on it, which I've found useful in the past. So I went to the Lenovo downloads site and found System Update, but it doesn't list the 20FB as one of the X1 Carbons it supports - it only goes up to 20BS, 20BT: http://support.lenovo.com/se/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-... (See the "Note for ThinkPad X1 Carbon users") Should I avoid downloading System Update then? I've not noticed anything that's not functioning, but I figured it makes sense to keep things up to date from a security and features point of view. Why is it not included by default? Thanks for any advice!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/System-Update-on-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3427436
I recently got a X1 carbon 4th gen (20FB), and I have been super happy with its performance. However, it seems like whenever I have the laptop closed, the keyboard is leaving a mark on the screen. I sent it to repair, and they changed the screen, but that didn't seem to fix it. I noticed that the body and the lid are not perfectly aligned - one of the corners of the lid seems to be jutting out a little bit with respect to the rest of the body. I've attached picture to show this. I'm not sure if this is a part of the general design of the Carbon. Can anyone with a X1 carbon 4th gen confirm that this alignment feature is not present in their machine? Thank you ?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-carbon-4th-gen-20FB-lid-and-body-alignment/td-p/3441108
Hi, We are having an issue with our X1 Carbon's(20FB). The audio output via an HDMI cable works, we see the Epson speakers in the playback devices. After the user is logged on for a while, the speakers will no longer showup in the playback devices and the auidio will just come through the laptops speakers. Hello all, We've got the same problem here with our x1 Carbon 4th gen (20FB). Lucky, we just purchased 2 but not 2 dozen. Both of them have the same problem which same as Swhitcher. We've called the Lenovo support hotline and ask for the onsite support. The on-site engineer replaced the mother board for us, but after 1 hour, problem occur again. We're going to deploy those computers to the end user very soon.So please, give us the solution as soon as you can, Lenovo! Many Thanks! Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (18.104.22.168).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Hi all, I have have new X1 Carbon and really like it. However I am getting regular BSOD failures once or twice per week. Has anyone encouneted this issue and know how to fix it? Any recommnedations from Lenovo? If required I can attached detailed log dmps. Thanks,Ian

I'm setting up a new X1 Carbon with machine type 20FB. It came with a Samsung MZNTY256HDHP SSD. I noted there was a recent SSD firmware update package for this laptop model, so I downloaded and ran the updater. It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Missing-SSD-firmware-update-for-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3485035

Hi, trying to get a Windows 7 Install done on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB w/ Samsung950 Pro. Bios 1.14 (latest as of May 2016)Special issue is, I need to get it done in a Legacy mode (BIOS,MFT style). I was able to install Win7 based on a win7 image that got the 950pro drivers and the USB3 drivers infused through NTLITE, and then I build an image with Rufus 2.9 (both UEFI/GPT and UEFI/MFT) worked, with the X1 BIOS was set up to UEFI only with CSM.BUT I need to to run on the BIOS setting 'Legacy' and in MFT style, b'cause the special Win7 installer I need to use does not support anything else. I know, sounds weird, but..... . So- is there a fundamental limitation against booting / installing a Win7 on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB - Samsung950 Pro in Legacy 7 MFT mode?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Carbon-X1-2016-20FB-Samsung950-Pro-Windows-7/td-p/3338627
Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Hi, I updated my X1 Carbon 4th gen to 1.17 BIOS, and since then, opening the lid won't wake the computer from hibernation, except when plugged.Bios changelog states Disabled the power button when the computer is in battery mode and the
computer lid is closedbut when I read "power button", I don't think "this is gonna break the behavior of the lid". And of course, no rollback is possible from 1.17, so I'm stuck with a computer wich won't wake from hibernation correctly. I just can advise you all to not upgrade bios, and see what's inside the next version...
Hello! I have made many driver pachages and image loads of lenovo pc, but i cant figure this one out. I think I have spent 4 hours of researching and I have realised I need to put down my pride. Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment). According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write. The machine has all the latest updates from Lenovo (incl BIOS) and all the drivers for Windows 10. Anyone else tested their drives? Found a Dell XPS owner with the same drive that complained about the same issue. Turning off windows write cache buffer flushing does help, but that is not a good answer.

What gen is your x1 carbon? Is it 3rd gen? HiI own a X1 Carbon Gen 2 thinkpad and wonder if it is possible to replace the current keyboard with a X1 Carbon gen 3 keyboard (with proper mouse buttons), or if it will not fit?I have tried to check the manuals and the connectors seems similar although some things, such as the fingerprint reader, seems different. I have no problem "loosing" the adaptive keyboard and fingerprint reader if I can have all the functionality of the keyboard and trackpoint on the new "keyboard" (i.e. the gen 3 frontpanel).
I am interested in this exact topic as well. Looks like the Gen 3 keyboards lack the adaptive keyboard - that clear stripe on the top that changes. The FRU for these X1 Carbons seem to be the whole keyboard, adaptive part, trackpad and bezel - they go for 150 USD or so. Problem is we don't know if it will work given the model year differences. A nice alternative would be just to replace the trackpoint. They came close with this one, but it is no macbook in terms of tactile feel of the pad. I really am having a hard time with it and it's been about a month. Lenovo please help!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-3-Keyboard-on-X1-Carbon-Gen-2/td-p/1939212

Hi, I have read that all the carbons after the gen 2 use an M2.ssd. Is there anything to stop you from changing or swapping the ssd around. Are there any videos or pictures online that might show me where the drive is located. Is there anything that would stop me from buying the model with the smallest and cheapset M2 ssd and then later putting in something newer? Thanks

I have two gen 2 X1 carbons, one with an i5 4200u (8GB RAM) and the other is i5 4210u (4GB RAM). The 4210u one, when not doing anything very intensive, is completely silent. I can put the vent up against my ear and hear nothing at all - the fan is off. The 4200u is not the same. When it boots off, the fan is off. It will stay off for about 30 seconds and then start up. It's very quiet but I don't see why it's on at all. It should be off, all it's doing is wasting power. Why is it that the 4210u stays off until I'm doing something intensive but the 4200u is always on? The 4210u is 100Mhz faster but they have the same TDP. Is there something I forgot to install after updating to Windows 10 that tells the fan to shut up when not doing much? I just purchased a new X1 Carbon with a 512Gb PCIe-NVMe SSD. I failed to follow my general rule of getting as much memory and disk as possible. So, I'd like to upgrade this SSD but have three questions: 1) What actual part do I have to order from Lenovo,2) How do I install it, and3) How do I copy the physical 512Gb SSD to the new 1Tb SSD, so I still have the Lenovo O/S and everything else I've installed on it? I have partitioned my SSD so there is: 1 - 260Mb of a simple EFI System partition1 - 1000Mb of a Recovery partition1 - 84Gb of a Windows 10 partition1 - 391Gb of an additional partition (defined as D:\) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. It's not possible because the two systems use SSDs with different physical sizes. The original X1C uses an mSATA SSD but the X1C2 uses an M.2 SSD.

I believe that drive in not self-encrypting/ Please note that the BIOS password is not what is used to encrypt self-encrypting. Rather it is the ATA (hard disk) password. In any case, if you set an ATA password, it is considered uncrackable. If you have a self-encrypting drive and no ATA password, the drive can simply be moved to a different machine and read directly.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-512-GB-SSD-Encryption/td-p/3305843

without more detailed information there is no way we can solve your problem, please tell us about your system, eg. graphics card, processor, RAM and click on "see details" or something of the sort and post a screens shot by presseing the "print screen" button then moving to a program like paint and pasting it there by either holding Ctrl+v or right clicking then paste then attach here

HI everyone, I have a question regarding SIM in x1 carbon. I am not very good with technology, so I don`t know if my x1 carbon has a working SIM slot. It has a slot for SIM card but when I put it on, it doesn`t respond anything, like `detecting` or something like that. My question is: does x1 Carbon (Model 20A8-S00600) has a working SIM card slot. If it does, how can I make it functional. If it doesn`t what do I need to do/buy to make it functional. Thanks,Kushtrim

Hi and welcome, kushtrimYour laptop is "WWAN ready" only, i.e.has the SIM card holder, the SIM card reader and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN modem wasn't factory preinstalled, that's a cause you don't see anything once SIM card is installed. So, to use laptop WWAN capabilities, purchase and install WWAN modem - 3G or 3g/LTE.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thinkpad-x1-carbon-SIM/td-p/2211034
I just bought a new X1 Carbon (Gen 4), and am looking for a sleeve for it. I took the Carbon especially because it's so lightweight and small, but unfortunately the offical size-matching sleeve from Lenovo (X1 Ultra Sleeve) is quite big, and weighs almost half as much as the laptop itself, and twice as much as a regular zip sleeve...I'm looking for a small lightweight neoprene/polyester/whatever sleeve with a zip in which the X1C Gen 4 would fit nicely. Any recommendations from people who already went through searching for one? Or maybe there is a basic reversible sleeve with the X1 Carbon dimensions planned from Lenovo? I'll be carrying in a backpack so I just need basic protection.Thanks!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-4-sleeve/td-p/3381440

My new laptop will randomly shut turn itself off. It's happened twice this week and I've only had it a couple weeks. Thoughts?
Did you ever resolve this? My X1 shuts goes to sleep after about 2 minutes and I have to log in to wake it up. It's an annoyance--if i stop to think about anything for more than 2 minutes I have to wake it up each time. About once a day it turns itself off entirely. I just bought my NFS Carbon Collectors Edition about a month ago, and the first time I installed it everything worked perfectly...but just recently I did a complete reboot and cleaning of my system (as in everything). When everything on my comp was back to normal, I tried to install NFS again but alas! It failed!
For some reason the only point I can reach during the installation process is the license agreement, which appears blank. If I agree with the license, it then tells me that I need Direct X 0(yes 0) or higher to continue.
I have no idea what that's about... I checked my disk, which is so new it doesn't have time to get any scratches on it, and even scanned it for errors, but nothing showed up.
I really need some help on this matter. Any support will be appreciated.
Install the latest version of DirectX, available here, and see if it works.
i have a prob..
when i try 2 run NFS carbon a black screen appears and den da desktop appears....wat shud i do??? i have tried all da widescreen fixes.....and yeah in da dxdiad ti shows AGP Texture Acceleration Not Available.....plz.. help

My computer was doing some Windows updates yesterday. I thought the process was done, but now I'm thinking maybe I shut it down a little too soon. This morning when I tried to boot up the computer, I couldn't get past the start up screen with the Lenovo logo. Sometimes the screen just stays there, sometimes it moves on and the screen just goes blank. I can't make it past this screen. I've tried doing a hard reset. I poked around some of the settings in safe mode (which I can't always get to), but nothing seemed to work. Anyone have any ideas on recovering rather than having to wipe the whole computer and start over?
I got my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen directly from Lenovo two days ago. This morning it won't turn on let alone boot. Tried the reset several times. Tried the press power 10 times for 1 sec then 30 sec. Still won't turn on. I spent about two days getting everything set up. Appartently two days wasted. I am working with Lenovo on getting a new machine but this is pretty frustrating. I don't see a way to disconnect the battery whcih is part of the "press power 10 times for 1 sec then 30 sec" solution that I have seen on the web. I think Mark_Lenovo has posted on this (for perhaps older X1s) but I cannot see a way to contact him. I think this must be some sort of static issue. I really hope this is not a common X1 problem. I wonder if I should just get a refund and start with a different computer. I have a ThinkStation which works well which is why I went for a ThinkPad to replace my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/x1-Carbon-won-t-start-up/td-p/3419242

Hi,My X1 with great specs is not as good as it should be (i7, 8GB RAM, 500G SSD).2 -3 times a day it crashes (BSOD). After installing Synaptics general drivers, that's gone. But I end up with many applications not scrolling. The fingerprint is unstable. Often the light is green when logging on, sometimes still working, sometimes not working at all. Searching the internet, I find I am not alone. This is my first post on this forum.I have been using Thinkpads for something like 15 years, and mostly been proud and happy about it. X, T-series, even 770 (?). They were all very stable and usable for business use.My X1 is mediocre however.I would very much like Lenovo to do something about these issues for their flagship system.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-carbon-failures/td-p/3343246

Hi! I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon that is a couple of years old. I wanted more space so I bought what I thought was the right drive, a M.2 SATA III Internal SSD. Unfortunately it doesn't fit! Here's a side by side photo of the two (the 500GB is the one I bought):?and here's a comparison of their pinouts, as you can see the new drive is too wide to fit:?What drive would fit in this laptop, and how do I know I'm buying the right one?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/What-drive-do-I-need-to-buy-for-my-X1-Carbon-I-thought-I-bought/td-p/3456473
Many an internet page is riddled with many ads. Some words of text are in green and when the cursor is on that word, without being clicked, a popup ad appears (for Spyware in one case) which has to be turned off. Other words, in blue, are ads for a different product. In some cases there are two words together, one of each colour.
If I copy the text (eg a tutorial) I get exactly the same copied to my Word document. It is possible to delete those words and retype them in black. But it can be a mammoth job.
Is there a way to turn those links off in either the internet page or the Word document? And is it only me, because of my (unknown) settings or does everyone suffer from the same thing?
Any ideas on this one?

My new employer needs me to use Carbon Copy (by Compaq) to remote-control clients' PCs from my home office during troubleshooting. She suggested a second phone line, which is the way they have done things in the past. The phone folks said a DSL line would allow me to talk and do internet at the same time, plus of course the access would be nice and snappy. I'd like to go with the DSL, but my boss is not sure it will work out. Has anybody done this? What are the TCP/IP settings and config info?
Thanks--this is a great site.

I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 1st Gen, Running Windows 10 Pro, 64Bit OS, 8GB RAM, fully up to date(Both Lenovo updates and Windows updates). Was plugged into a Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ultra Dock until it randomly stopped displaying on the external monitor. I switched monitor/cables...nothing. I switched to a new dock Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock and nothing. Uninstalled Display drivers, uninstalled monitor drivers... and reinstall but still nothing. Even switched USB ports and nothing.
Was wondering if anyone has had this problem and has a fix.
Thank you for sharing your experience with an external monitor failing to display from a X1 Carbon 1st Gen (Type: 34XX) when docked using a USB 3.0 UltraDock running Windows 10 Pro.
Lenovo is currently preparing a DisplayLink driver for DisplayLink-powered USB docks that will support the Windows 10 Redstone upgrade. The driver is scheduled to be released by early next week.
I will provide a link once the driver has been published.
I normally use the X1 carbon with the display duplicated to a Dell monitor. This stopped working. Only the laptop display is now available, with the Dell monitor in the HDMI port not being recognised. The display on the laptop does not have the correct resolution and overflows the bottom of the screen. The display resolution cannot be changed (greyed out). Hey guys, I bought a X1 Carbon model 20FBCTO1WW from the US. I got it from the US but am currently in the UK. Wifi tethering from my mobile doesn't work. I can connect to wifi networks but not mobile tethering. And it's not my phone because I tried tethering with my friends Mac and it worked. I looked up solutions online and found a couple of people facing the same issue with the 20A7 models. They reported issues with the Intel network card. Mine is Intel Dual Band Wireless - AC 8260. Anyone facing the same issues / have any advice to give? Thanks!
Hello and welcome,
What channel is your phone using? IIRC US hardware doesn't support all the channels that may be available elsewhere in the world.
I'm having trouble finding a list of supported channels for the UK so I can't verify that this might be the issue.
Something to check.

Hello,I am using X1 Carbon 2016 with OneLink+ and 27 inch 4K Dell monitor. It works all right with 60Hz.I would like to know, if it is possible to connect two 4K 60Hz monitors to the system?I understand, that OneLink+ supports two 4K monitors only with 30Hz and this is out of question. I need 60Hz on both of them. So, can I connect one through OneLink+ and another to MiniDP on notebook itself? Theoretically, it seems OK, because Intel HD 520 graphics itself supports two 4K 60Hz monitors and OneLink+ 30Hz limitation is related to speed only (if I am right). Would be grateful for any advice. Hi , I want to buy a new laptop and I found an ad for X1 Carbon. When I asked about warranty he told me that he doesnt have any documents from the laptop and that he lost them together with the original packaging when he moved to a different house, but that the warranty is valid with just the serial number from the laptop. Can you confirm this is true ??Support for that serial number says:Base Warranty Status : In Warranty, expires , 2019-03-06https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thinkpad-X1-Carbon-warranty/td-p/3347343
I have a brand new X Carbon model BS laptop that won't charge I plug it into the wall and it says Plugged in not charging The charging" "Plugged in, Carbon X1 not battery will run down to and then stay there I have done the following to try and make it charge nbsp I updated to the latest version of the Lenovo Power Manager and the Power Management Driver I have tried a different charger and a different wall outlet I have tried changing when the laptop starts charging I set it to rebooted and then changed it back to default I have tried reinstalling the nbsp Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method X1 Carbon "Plugged in, not charging" Battery nbsp driver in device manager I tried the battery gauge reset in the Lenovo Power Manager I have tried replugging in the battery nbsp I have been able to make it charge by turning off the laptop unplugging it going into the BIOS and turning the battery off The laptop then shuts down and I plug the X1 Carbon "Plugged in, not charging" power cable back in and turn it on This will get the laptop to charge for the X1 Carbon "Plugged in, not charging" day but then when I shut it down at the end of the day and come back it is back to not charging nbsp Interestingly enough this problem seems to be tied to the SSD in the laptop not the battery I actually have two of this same model bought at the same time I unboxed the second laptop and swapped the SSDs When I turned on the new laptop the battery charged for a day and then was back to not charging nbsp Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done to make this laptop charge Are there any settings I'm overlooking that could cause this problem nbsp Thank you in advance for the help
Hi. Judging by your discription, it could be some poor contact on the battery cable, resulted from your swapping SSD.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-quot-Plugged-in-not-charging-quot/td-p/2266058
After updating Windows 10 to the newest version today,And updating to the newest BIOS version using Lenovo System Updatemy Thinkpad X1 (4th gen) won't startup by opening the lid, like it used to.Lenovo Support says they can't help me. Going into stand-by and waking up by closing and opening the lid works fine. What doesn't work is powering up the Thinkpad (after shutdown) by opening the lid. Any ideas?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thinkpad-X1-Carbon-4th-gen-Does-not-start-up-after-opening-the/td-p/3423776

hello, i must change my keyboard because the water, so i serached almost internet and i don't see any keyboard for my model ?? WANT TO KNOW THE PRICE ? AND ALSOO SHIPPING TO QUÉBEC CITY ?Any one here to help me please Thanks?? PAR
I am not certain I've identified the part correctly, but this looks like the French Canadian keyboard for the X1 Carbon Gen 3 (MT-M beginning 20BS or 20BT). If so, I believe the part you need is FRU 00HT302 or 00HN947 (the two are equivalent, just made by different manufacturers). You should be able to find a supplier online - I'd start looking on the Lenovo site for options in your country (click).https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Replacement-keyboard-for-my-X1-Carbon/td-p/3427942
