I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
[/B]I have had the notebook for five years; yesterday the following message:
NTLDR is missing
Press ctrl + alt + del to restart
When the user does the instruction, the boot starts and the message repeats.
I really do not want to do a reinstall of the operating system; if someone has away to reinstall just the boot tracks.
 Is this a virues?
Is this the work of a hacker?
Has there been an MS-XP failure?

Check this site out. How to fix: NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart Its long but should fix your problem.

hp pavillion laptop 15-p067ca model, purchased year ago, came with windows 8.1, was not updated to windows 10. seems to have a bug: on start up it welcomes me as a user "vladimir" asks for password and then hangs up forever with the white screen and unresponsive. Password I'm sure is right, because if I type different password, machine comes back with "Incorrect password" message. What do you think is a problem and how to go back to factory settings? I have not made a recovery disc. Any comp supposedly have a recovery partition, and Recovery Manager but how can I do anything if Window does not come up?

Hello katrapezo. I understand you're having some trouble recording audio. Have you tried recording in another application such as Sound Recorder? I'd also like you to remove your audio drivers and allow Windows to reinstall them. Here are the steps.Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.Right click on your sound card and select "Uninstall."Reboot your computer.Verify whether the problem persists. Also, what is your notebook's product number? This document can show you where it is located.Have a wonderful day.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/HP-Pavillion-dv6-notebook-audio-recording-issue-windows-7/td-p/2737617

General speaking, you cannot upgrade the video card or GPU in a laptop.
Hello, I was just wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade my RAM, it currently is at 8GB, I would like to upgrade it to 16GB or whatever the max is. Thanks!

Hi I want to instal one SSD disk on my computer. Do anyone now if it is Sata 3 port on this computer ? If it isn`t can I install Sata 3 port or do I have to chang motheboard ! Regards KOB32
Hi: Run this free hardware analyzer that I have zipped up and attached below. Run the file, close the summary window and on the left side of the window, click to expand the Drives section. Then click to expand the sata/atapi drives section. Click on your hard drive name listed there. The first line will be the Drive Controller spec. It will report the hard drive type running at a certain speed. For example Serial ATA 6 Gb/s @ 6 Gb/s. If your notebook only has a SATA II port, it might report Serial ATA 6 Gb/s @ 3 Gb/s, or Serial ATA 3 Gb/s @ 3 Gb/s.

I am considering buying this laptop at "Office Depot" today. In your expert opinion, guys, is this a good laptop for basic needs? I just need it for a small business situation. I have tried twice to upgrade my HP Pavillion DV4 notebook to a Samsung 840 Solid State Drive and the two times it only shows a "J" while trying to boot. Hello,I was recently given a pavillion dv9821ea laptop which was in bad shape after being infected with a virus. I eventually had to replace the hard drive and at the same time I upgraded the operating system to windows 7 PRO 64bit. I was unable to save nothing from the origonal hard drive, no drivers, HP software etc and since I installed Windows 7, the laptop seems to have several problems including not downloading Windows updates. I connect it to the HP assistant, but this recognises the laptop and only gives me the choice of Windows Vista as the operating system for which to support drivers etc. I wonder if you could help me by letting me know if there is anywhere I can download Windows 7 pro 64bit drivers for this laptop? my wife and I are both disabled and it would make a great difference to me if I could have full use of this laptop. Regards. Gerald
Hi, Gerald: HP did not support that model for W7, and you should be able to use the Vista drivers from the dv9821ea support page except the BIOS and firmware files. Additionally, you can read this helpful dv9000 W7 upgrade guide for some tips on getting W7 to work just fine on that model. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Windows-7-Upgrade-Guide-for-dv60...http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Drivers-for-Pavillion-dv9821ea-entertainment-notebook/td-p/5594190

Hello. I have a HP Pavillion 15 Notebook PC product number: J1X37EA#AB9 with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60GHz, RAM: 12,0 GB, Windows 10 64-bits and in what comes to graphics i have Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 and a NVidia GeForce 840M. I believe my intel graphic card is integrated in the board but the Nvidia one can be upgraded. Am I wrong or can I really upgrade my graphics card?

HP Support Assistant reports that there is a software update available to download. Click yellow triangle, get to products, shows a software download available, but does not specify what the download is.
Click on Message / update. Four segment square icon starts rotating through the segments. Runs and runs and runs, now more than 2 hours. Nothing downloads.
This is the third time today I've tried to download the supposed software update. Same result each time. Nothing downloads.
Same result each time.

Sounds like it might be time for a reinstall to refresh the OS and overcome any lingering infection. Follow these same steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 particularly when it comes to drivers and Updates.
Otherwise work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 including the hardware tests.

Extremely frustrated I've looked and tried to find a solution to no avail When the notebook boots up it gets to the login screen I wouldn't be able to do anything at that point but I can log in because I have a fingerprint scanner from there I'm dead in the water The only way to shut down is to hold down the power button While the computer is in bootup I have touchpad keyboard function I can escape to boot options BIOS repair etc and have normal functionality while there but not in safe mode I have ran SFC with commands several times chkdsk with commands several times nothing changes SFC says it found problems but was not able to fix all of them and keyboard Notebook and on Pavillion HP touchpad 3225dx dv6 Frozen the last chkdsk found nothing wrong Here are the events leading up to had disk errors and bad sectors in old hard drive could not repair cloned old hard drive to new hard drive there were errors but the new hard drive booted and worked for the most part correctly in the process of trying to fix missing setup files for applications and other miscellaneous small issues I ran troubleshooting updates chkdsk sfc etc removed various applications and added a few nothing worked I installed Revo uninstaller to remove Kaspersky Internet Security as it is THE MOST stubborn application to remove I've ever experienced The reason I mention that is because I went through my computer trying to find the leftover files even after Revo because Kaspersky was still running after re-installing it and uninstalling it again There were some files in System that had kaspersky attached to it's description I stopped them from running and deleted them They were close to the kb files and after researching which files Frozen touchpad and keyboard on HP Pavillion dv6 3225dx Notebook to remove I remember in the end of the post it said it wouldn't delete Frozen touchpad and keyboard on HP Pavillion dv6 3225dx Notebook a certain file beacause you wouldn't have keyboard functionality I made sure I didn't but I can't help Frozen touchpad and keyboard on HP Pavillion dv6 3225dx Notebook to think now that out of the files I deleted some of them kernel I may have deleted the mouse and keyboard files in error I tried a System Restore of the most recent point prior to the issue and it did not work I think now that I should have tried it again at an earlier point but didn't and I did that from the repair module obviously since I couldn't do it anywhere else I have tried since to do another but the restore points have disappeared The last time I had a working touchpad keyboard in Windows I ran sfc scannow offbootdir d offwindir d windows at boot in the command prompt I got the same message that it found errors but did not fix them all Then I ran chkdsk f r from boot at the command prompt When I returned to my computer after a couple hours I rebooted and no longer had a touchpad or keyboard I am up in arms and extremely frustratd as I feel I have tried absolutely everything to get them to work again I hope that the only option I have left is to format and clean install I do not have a full back up and can't get one fully executed at this point Please help Thanks in advance to any suggestion and assistance that you may be able to provide it's much appreciated The following link is to the support page of my Notebook http h www hp com ewfrf wc product product amp lc en amp cc us amp dlc en amp lang en amp tmp track link
If you have (and should have) a USB keyboard and mouse connect them and see if they will work.
Since your file system was already corrupted you cloned the bad files to the new drive.
If the USB devices work you should do a Repair Install.
If that doesn't work do this: Using System Recovery, Factory Reset and Minimized Image Recovery Options HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP? Support
From this tut:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
On newer models HP Recovery may offer a Minimized OS Recovery option when booting from F11, which retains only the OS, Recovery Manager, HP Support Asst, and HP Wireless LAN. This is as close to a clean reinstall as you can get without doing one yourself.
● If you clean reinstall only to C and leave all other partitions intact, F11 Recovery key should still work later if you need it.
● You can also Extract HP 3rd Party Software from RecovCD.
● Problems with volume control lighting and HP Quick Launch buttons have been dealt with here where you can also get further support.
Several weeks ago I bought the new HP Pavillion dv9574ea notebook and the HEADPHONE SOCKETS do not work - there are two. Only the speakers work. Even when I put a working set of headphones which are the right size, I cannot hear anything through the hearphones. The normal loud speakers however keep working, although they should switch off when the headphones are plugged in.
Please see the screenshot of the drivers active (in system 32 folder) and other details about the headphone socket.
Thank you for any help.

I am having problems getting Windows 7 to load. When I turn on the notebook, I get the message "Press the ESC key..." at the bottom left of the screen and then the screen goes black for a few seconds. This sequence keeps repeating and I can't get to a point of getting Windows to load. I have pressed the esc key and run the Start-up test (passed), Hard disk test (passed), tried to recover system to an earlier time and nothing seems to work. Can someone please provide guidance. Details of notebook are below. Thanks very much.
HP Pavillion dv4 Notebook PC
BIOS version F.24
Processor Intel Core i3-2330M CPU 2.20GHz
Got a notebook with Windows 7 on it and all of a sudden it's started not booting up, I've tried running the operating system recovery, memory diagnostix and the various tools presented to me to try and fix the issue with no luck. It just sits at the black screen with the yellow bar running across the bottom and never boots up. Also tried safe mode but it just stops after loading disk.sys.
Only way I can get on is if I reinstall Windows, first format all the drives then reinstall it - it works fine (boots up) but as soon as I shut down I can't get back on and I'm back to square one.
Also tried an older operating system with no luck (it was running 7 for months before this issue).
I have a notebook with Windows XP Home edition service pack 3.
I installed linux but then deleted the partition in XP then rebooted and now it comes up saying grub rescue > or something.
I only have Windows XP Professional cd lying around.
How would i fix this error? cause i can't boot into windows or anything.
So i bought a new ssd for my Hp Probook 650, a crucial ssd which came with a cloning tool so i could replace my old hdd. I put both of them into my desktop to clone. It vooted up, I downloaded the program and started cloning. Something went wrong in the cloning, so now none of them have windows etc. on them. I then try to recover it to factory settings, which it didn't allow me to. I then try to install windows onto the disc (using the desktop once again, as the laptop does not have a disc-rom nor allows me to use an external drive for boot). I have succesfully installed windows 8.1 onto the drive, and it is working in the desktop. I move it to the probook 650, but all I get is "No bootable image found, notebool will be shutdown." School starts in a day and I need help.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Notebook-won-t-boot-into-windows/td-p/5733490
Lately this hand-me-down Vaio notebook I received would just randomly give me bluescreens while I was doing things.I wanted to figure out what the error was specifically, but the system would just reboot itself within a second of blue screening before I could read it, and it'd be fine for a while after it rebooted. Today I got a bluescreen and it tried to reboot itself, but when it got to the Windows XP loading screen it bluescreened again and reset itself. I tried booting into safe mode, but before it can load the OS the screen will either go black or blue screen and reset.
Is there anything I can do for it, or will I have to reinstall XP? Also, if I do end up having to reinstall will I lose data?
I bought an HP stream notebook for Christmas last year with Windows 10 , and I got a virus on it a few weeks ago and tried to reset it and I say it down for like 2 hrs and it was still frozen at 1% so I turned it off. When I turned it back on there would be a line at the top and then the HP welcome sign would show and then it would go black then turn off ( the power light was still on) and then continue to restart over and over. I tried pressing f11 to go and reset it but every time it says "there was an error resetting your pc" at about 44% and the diagnostic test found nothing. PLZ HELP
Hi, the Windows 10 installation image is available for download from Microsoft if you want to wipe the disk clean and do a fresh install. There are instructions here.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/My-HP-Stream-notebook-won-t-boot-Windows-10/td-p/5605425
My laptop previously had Windows 10 installed but after a fault I gave it to the repair store and they restored it back to Windows 8.1. So then I tried three times to download Windows 10( two by installing it directly to the laptop and once by downloading it to an 8gb usb stick). But every time I install it it says it will restart then it restarts but gets stuck on the HP logo. I have tried Hard reset, checking for faulty components but the only way to fix this is to restore it back to Windows 8.1. Is there any fix which will allow me to finally get windows 10 working or will I have to stick with Windows 8.1?Thanks in advance.

Thank you in advance!
Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer. I am The Dark Knight and will be assisting you. Please ask questions if anything is unclear. Please download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.In the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) paste the following in bold:
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs
Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted. When the scan completes, it will open two Notepad windows. OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Post both logs in this thread. You may need to use two posts to get it all.

I'm running on an HP G72-b66US Notebook with Windows 7 64-bit Every time I boot it up, I see the Hp logo appear and then go away after a few seconds like usual but instead of seeing the Windows logo, theres just a blank black screen command prompt and nothing happens at all. I did a self hard drive test and memory test in bios and they both passed. I tried going into the system recovery option on startup and it does the same as when I start it up and go to that blank command prompt. I didn't add anything recently to it and I recently scanned it for viruses before the problems started happening and it was clean. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi, If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD. Download the ISO from the link below. Windows 7 64bit You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. Once created, or if you already have this, insert the Rescue CD into the notebook and restart to boot from it. Select Repair Your Computer and choose the Command Prompt. When this loads, enter the following commands and hit enter after each one - include spaces as shown. Bootrec.exebcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backupc:cd bootattrib bcd -s -h -rren c:\boot\bcd bcd.oldbootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixboot Remove the Rescue CD and try rebooting the notebook. My laptop showed the selected boot image did not authenticate error message and I changed the boot mode to Legacy but my system didn't boot up.I need help
Hi, Shutdown the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Hi,last time I tried to start up, my NB 4540s results a start screen with:Windows Boot Manager problem 0xc000000e It says to use the recovery disk, and this is what I did, but each time I try to restart the screen is the same.I tried with ESC, F8, F11, and so on, but nothing solved.I tried to keep pressed ON button withouth battery to descharge laptop, but all is the same. I have seen the recovery disk with windows 8, but this NB has windows 7. Maybe this could be a problem when recovering ? Anyway the disk runs, but nothing different each start, the same windows boot manager windows appears.I can reinstall the system from scratch withouth problems, but how can install from cd ? Thanks
It is likely that there is a problem with either the hard drive or the memory. If either is true it is not going to be possible to restore an operating system unless the bad component is replaced. Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) at bootup? You should run the hardware testing programs which are available at either place. Let us know what you find or if you have trouble getting there.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/4540s-Notebook-windows-boot-manager-problem/td-p/5639690
Hi I?m new to the forum.I was searching on the forum and google,to see if I could find an answer to my problem, but no lucky.
I was using my laptop, then I lost the power, because I use without battery. After that I start having problem with boot sequency,it take more or less 25 minutes to start the windows. And before was just 20 or 30 seconds to boot. When the windows starts it run normal.
Is there something that I could do it? To boot normal as used to be?
I use windows 7 32 bits
Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.
It's possible your hard drive is corrupted as a result of the power loss so you might want to run a check on it as this tutorial explains.
Are you saying the boot sequence has changed? If so, you'll need to go into the BIOS to see what is going on - if you're unsure what to look for just load the default settings - your computer manual should show you how to access the BIOS settings.

The only clue I see is the CD drive doesn't seem to act right. Hardware failure is often the cause of BSOD. is it possible to remove the offending drive and try to boot?
A laptop doesn't offer many hardware trouble shooting options.

On my Inspiron there is a recovery partition on F11 (or CTRL F11), press F11 up and down a few times as you switch on the xps. I don't know if this is installed on the xps range but you could try. When it finished restarting all i get is a blank display all i see is the backlight. and ive tried everything. Hard reset. Restoring BIOS. i tried connecting to an external monitor but that doesn't work. I feel like this is not my fault windows did not allow me to cancel updating it just restarted my laptop as i was using it. i dont think i should have to pay 59.99 for phone support or anything else. This is a huge inconvenience to me as i use my laptop everyday for work.

Hi New issue on a friend s notebook Running Win XP Home On start-up PXE E Media test failure comes up after the Win XP HP Pavillion Will Not ZV Boot 5000 splash screen Went into BIOS and made sure hard drive is first boot then CD ROM drive I disabled the Network and floppy does not have one for good measure I ran a self-test on the hard drive minutes under TOOLS and it PASSED I have a bootable Norton disc so I made the CD-ROM the first boot option and the laptop just sits with a blinking white cursor in the top left screen I rearranged the boot options re-seated the hard drive unplugged the AC cord removed the battery and pressed the power button for seconds I pressed F selected SAFE mode and the computer scrolls through all the lines of text and then reboots to the Windows XP splash screen I have read hundreds of scenarios for the PXE E message and most of them point to a faulty HD with the PC resorting to boot from a Network which the laptop is not configured to do So despite a PASS on the self-test of the laptop s hard drive is this the issue Is there a way to make a bootable XP Home CD make the CD drive the first boot sequence and see if the laptop boots using the CD Thank you Adam nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/hp-pavillion-zv-5000-will-not-boot.826513/
I know I'm one among many, but this is what it does.
power on with all led's on, the HD buzzes for 15-20 secs, the screen does not turn on at all, and then it reboots again, and again.
any suggestions welcome.

Hello, I'm having trouble booting Hp Pavillion dv4, I purchased A new cord for it, (for that happened to me before,) but even with new cord, I get ABSOLUTELY no response of any kind. No light For power, No light for hdd, no flickering, nothing.. I removed battery and just used cord, still not even a blink.. I fear it's the MoBo .. What do ya think? Thanks In Advance..
As I see it, the possibilities are bad power supply, bad main board, broken plug in the laptop.
I have an HP zv5000 and it started up with a message that says,
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
So I did that with my original Setup disc, it started to load stuff on a blue screen and then the message at the bottom said that it was starting windows, but it gave me a black screen with about a dozen choices of what to do next.
I don't know which one to choose. The other alternative was to press 'enter' and partition the drive. I don't know whether to do the partitioning or not.
Is there a choice in the list that I can choose?
You don't want to partition...if you partition or format all of your data will be lost.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/hp-pavillion-zv5000-wont-boot-375107.html
My daughter has an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC, Intel Core 2 Duo. Runs on Vista.
Just today on start up it went to HP invent screen and then stops. Will not go into startup and I've tried multiple restarts or tried to get to safeboot but can't get to any screeen.
Until more help comes along you can visit these 2 sites to see if it helps you out:
This morning when I attempted to start my HP Pavillion desktop, I pressed the power button as usual and here is what did and didn't happen:
1. The power button light did not come on (normally it glows blue).
2. The CPU fan did come on
3. There were some familiar clicks (perhaps the hard drive starting?) but then only the CPU fan appeared to be working.
4. Nothing appeared on the monitor.
5. No power to the keyboard (no caps lock or num lock LEDs)
6. CPU fan continued to operate.
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
I have an HP Pavilion Elite e9220f, I am running windows 7 premium edition.
I scanned for viruses with Norton, restarted, and it came up to a black screen with a blinking curser in the top left corner of the screen. All I can do is ctrl alt del and return to the same screen, I can get into bios and switch from my hardrive to boot from cd rom, but that is no help. My computer came preinstalled so I do not have a windows disk or anything to boot from. F8 F11 and nothing else work except F10 to bios.
Does ANYONE know anything i can do to boot up in anyway..
"I do not have a windows disk or anything to boot from"
You were supposed to make a set of recovery CDs yourself when you first got your HP computer. There is an HP Windows utility installed which allows you to do that, and the user guide points out that fact.
Without any system backup CDs, you can start recovery from the hard drive by repeatedly tapping F11 as soon as the HP splash-screen appears at boot time:
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista) HP Pavilion Elite m9340f Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
This may be a harddrive failure but the pc is a refurbished Hp that I ve had about mos It started running everything EXtremely slow days ago It is runninng winXp I ve been trying pavillion boot takes 30 about Hp mins to to use Hp s system recovery features System restore did nothing To give you Hp pavillion takes about 30 mins to boot an idea about speed I went into Hp s recovery feature at pm last night to recover xp which is in a partition on the harddrive It is now am amp it s just done I will let you know what happens but With the harddrive running this slow on all programs amp bootup does this sound like harddrive slow down failure to any else Has anyone run into this After it boots to desktop it is still very very slow I have Norton amp Mcafee both installed This is my Daughters PC so I m not real concerned I have more but they are win amp she likes hers lol Any help appreciated nbsp
My 6 year old HP desktop will no longer boot. When I power it up I get fans spinning (very loudly) and the HDD and Optical drive LEDs flash briefly but there is nothing on the display at all. I don't get the HP logo or the XP starting screen, nothing.
I have checked for loose plugs. I have tried inserting a Windows XP disc in the Optical drive, nothing.
I suspect that the HDD may have got corrupted, or something similarly important has gone wheels up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Similar symptoms I've had, and it turned out to be a dead CMOS battery. And 6 years does seem like a long enough time for the battery to die out.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/solved-hp-pavillion-desktop-wont-boot-646523.html

Hi, I think your hard drive is just about shot. I'd suggest that if anything you need and do not already have a copy of, personal things like pics etc.....not programs..... you get them backed up someplace if you have not.
You can test the hard drive using the manufacturer's utility. Do you know what make and model drive you have?
The computer's model you posted is not enough to get to the correct support into. The info on the back or underneath the machine on a label is what we need. There should be a slightly different model ID found there. Please post that.
There are more than 300 sub models in that M900 family. Is it a desktop or a notelbook?
I have an intermittent failure to book. When this happens, the computer beeps constantly but does not turn on. If I turn off the back-up power and wait a few seconds, the computer boots OK when I turn it on. What is going on? Is this a serious problem? If so, how do I fix it?
I am using an HP Pavillion 8755c with Pentium III and 384 MB RAM. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition.
I own a Hp Pavillion dv6700 laptop and recently it wouldn't turn on for more than a few seconds. I tried troubleshooting by removing the battery and turning it on just with the powersupply, no difference. Vice versa.
I purchased another charger to see if that would help. Despite trying different combinations with chargers, batter in/out, the computer still only turns on for a few seconds(nothing comes up on the screen) and then turns itself off.
Reading some other forums similiar to this problem has yielded no help.
Another thing - the port that I plug the power supply into it seems like the cord can move around a bit.
I was brought the above mentioned pc to see if I could fix it It is running W well when I started it it swent thru the POST and started booting but stopped during the boot I then popped in the Win cd turned it off restarted and booted from the cd All was going good until it STOPPED Monitor went blank and the cd wasn t being read anymore I went on and did a few other things around the office while waiting to see if it would finish but nothing happened So after about minutes I shut it down and resigned myself to having to install a new hd re-install Win and copy the files from the old drive to the new one Well I try to do just that when I get it home but now the computer won t do ANYTHING It will power on but won t load the BIOS nor run the POST All I get 8550C Won't HP Starts Pavillion but Boot is short beeps The screen just stays blank I even tried reinstalling HP Pavillion 8550C Starts but Won't Boot the old hd but the result is the HP Pavillion 8550C Starts but Won't Boot same That s where I stand now at the end of my rope Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Let me know if any more info is needed nbsp

Hi MexicanPygmy, Welcome to SF
Sounds like you have a problem with the mbr when installing multiple OS
You could try running startup repair of your install disk to repair(you may need to run this up to three times) or you can try other fixes, have a look at this MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

Here is my situation I along with my coworkers want to give a PC and a year of internet to this needy family this Xmas We got an old problem boot sequence HP 510n Pavillion donated PC which worked ok when we got it but was very slow and buggy I decided to reinstall the XP so the family would have a fresh OS I put the XP install CD in the drive and booted up the pc No matter what I did I could not get the PC to recognize the install CD I have went into the bios and changed the boot device priority so that the CD-ROM drive has the exclamation point I think that the old floppy drive is booting first on start up however I cant seem to change it HP Pavillion 510n boot sequence problem I removed the hard drive and did a reformat in a good PC thinking that might be the problem Right HP Pavillion 510n boot sequence problem now on boot up it goes to the HP logo on the blue screen and then to a black screen with a cursor flashing in the top left corner I can still get into the setup on boot up by pressing f I have literally worked on this for hours every evening for the last week I would really like to be able to present a working computer for them this Xmas I sincerely appreciate any assistance Steve
Well, I can only suggest these things first off.
1) Check the jumper settings on the CD-ROM drive (If it's IDE.)
2) Disconnect the Floppy drive from the motherboard, and see if that fixes the boot problem.
3) If all fails, try to flash an updated BIOS. It could be that the motherboard somehow doesn't support booting from the CD-ROM.
Some more info about the machine could help as well.
Hi Team, I've HP Pavillion p252tx whenever I start my notebook it is not showing splash screen/logo of HP during startup, there is a black screen for few seconds afterwards it directly take me to the Windows logo n windows starts normally. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, a friend recently dropped his HP Pavillion DV6, now it comes up with the windows did not start succesfully, and im given the options launch start up repair or start normally; starting normally it loads for a minute or so then a blue screen appears for barely half a second, and what appears to be a papragraph with writing, it is impossible to make out any of it, this also happens when I start it in safe mode. Start up repair loads then just a blue screen appears, as does the mouse which can be moved, nothing else, i cant ctrl-alt-delete, im forced to shutdown. Im guessing a component has broke and its a matter of it being repired, but maybe something can be done, ive attached a picture, would appreciate help very much, thanks.
If it was working prior to dropping it I would say the laptop has sustained some damage.
I have that above computer that will not startup it goes to blank screen and says
its missting some kind of boot file.
I do not have a copy of vista on cd
any help would be appreciated thanks
See if this helps
If it does not post and we will do a restoration from you restore partlition. Your stuff will be lost, so tell me and we will back up first.
My Pavillion DV8000T Laptop Screen has a slight hint of white at the base when booting up, but once Windows XP starts loading it OK.
Is this the sign of problems starting with the screen. ??
its called bleeding and is normal
Well I have a hp pavilion G6 2229tu , it's showing the same 1 blink LED code , and the towel trick works but the problem is it has a i5 3rd gen processor and gpu in embedded in the cpu chip itself , and there is no dedicated graphics , which I think means there is no seperate gpu chip on motherboard . So why does that towel trick work for my laptop ? Does it work in case of excessive dust ?? I can't open the laptop worrying I won't be able to reassemble it .. Can anyone help ?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Pavillion-G6-2229tu-won-t-boot-giving-LED-code/td-p/5711693
I own an HP pavillion running windows 7 and processor is an AMD Phenom 2.
The PC crashed today as I was browsing the web, it won't boot past the boot screen to access safe mode or whatever else.
I get a black screen with a cursor flashing rapidly in the top left corner.
I believe the HD might have crashed, I ran the diagnostic tool and it told me:
Testing: Boot path failed
Error code: BIOHD-4
Error:Unitialized/Corrupt boot structure detected.
I googled error BIOHD-4 and found that the drive might not be dead after all, some people seem to have recovered from this error.
I did try all options from the boot screen to no avail, F8,F9,F10,F11 so on.
What shall I do next?
I have to admit I was browsing unsafe websites when the problem occured, could a virus be doing it? There was no warning, it just happened.
Thanks a lot
Well, if you have the repair disk (If you have another PC handy, you can make one off of that) then you can recreate your MBR and whole boot deal.
Just pop the Repair CD in and boot from it. Then open the command prompt and type in:
See if you still can't boot. Report back and tell us what happens. Good luck.
I have a HP Pavillion G60-120em laptop that's currently running windows vista. i want to upgrade to windows 7, but when i try and boot from cd/dvd it doesn't work. I've seen possible solutions posted, but my problem is that i can't find the 'disable for the secure boot' command. It doesn't seem to be in the sytem config or security menu. I've tried everything, but still no joy. i'm grateful for any help advice as i've tried for days without any luck.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Can-find-the-secure-boot-disable-command-on-my-HP-Pavillion/td-p/5659922

Try resetting the BIOS to default settings and check any other external devices that are connected that might interfere with the computer during hardware discovery. If nothing helps, remove the CMOS battery for a couple of minutes and see if it will correct the problem.
I'm trying to boot from USB to install a windows professional OS on reformatted and repartitioned HDD using a bootable USB made with Rufus I usually from boot enable won't PSLP-LE motherboard usb Pavillion w/asus HP do it this way because CD hash HP Pavillion w/asus motherboard PSLP-LE won't enable boot from usb counts are wrong or cheap CD won't complete installation give an error message about a driver missing I know this is a hash count Cd quality issue because I use the same iso file to load rufus and it works when the bios recognizes the usb in the boot options I can't get this bios to recognize the usb to include it in the boot option list either through setup or f boot menu options Everything regarding usb legacy etc is enabled in bios I was wondering if it is fixable in this HP Pavillion with this particular motherboard either through bios update or any other method available It's a HP Pavillion desktop Thanks for reading and if someone knows the secret I'm all ears fingers and eyes too CD

A few hours ago why running a few programs and things nothing that taxing like a game or anything my computer randomly shut down Now when (BIOS/startup loop malfunction?) dv3150nr HP Pavillion boot I tried to reboot it or when it restarted itself im not too sure It would flash a blank DOS window with a blinking quot quot for - seconds then go to the HP BIOS screen and remain there for a few seconds HP Pavillion dv3150nr boot loop (BIOS/startup malfunction?) At HP Pavillion dv3150nr boot loop (BIOS/startup malfunction?) the point in which it would normally go to the next screen and start loading windows it instead started the booting process all over and went back to the BIOS screen and would do this continually until i pressed the power button and shut it off I have no idea what is the problem and how to fix it I ran the memory and other daignostics in the bios and they did not come up with any errors My antivirus expired not too long ago but i dont think a virus could do this I did at one time get a message something like this quot Primary internal Battery storage capacity of battery very low replace battery But that make have been a fluke caused by me trying to perform a quot hard reset quot by removing the battery and draining the remaining power in the notebook I am no longer under warranty By days Doesn t this always happen and I m at a loss for what to do I may still be able to boot from a disk but before I try anything like that I need to understand what is causing the problem and how best to fix it Any help would be appreciated Notebook stats pretty much the only thing I m able to access in the bios besides diagnostic tests Notebook model HP Pavillion dv Notebook PC Windows Vista SYSTEM BOARD ID PROCESSOR TYPE INTEL CORE DUO CPU P GHz Total Memory MB BIOS Version F nbsp
The primary internal battery might be the motherboard CMOS battery. Sounds like the hard drive may have gone bad... Once you get the laptop to boot, you can address the weak CMOS battery. Can you get into the boot devices in the bios at all?
Hello New to the Tech forum boards but I am having a problem with my HP Pavillion dv t The hard drive went bad so I installed a new Seagate TB internal hard drive in the notebook Starts up fine and then it says that quot No bootable device found quot ---insert disk press any key The disc is in the cd rom I went into the BIOS enabled the CD ROM boot option I HP hard Installed drive boot not new Pavillion dv6, disk working on also went into the Boot option menu and tried selecting the Installed new hard drive on HP Pavillion dv6, boot disk not working internal cd dvd rom drive option and I went into the actual boot order screen and adjusted the boot order so it read the cd-rom drive first then the hard drive I also am using the HP Application and Driver recovery DVD I am not sure if the disc is bad or cd drive is bad The other thought is that because it is a Installed new hard drive on HP Pavillion dv6, boot disk not working brand new hard drive there is no information on it for the drivers so maybe the computer is not processing the information If anyone has knowledge of this issue or any ideas that can help I would greatly appreciate it Thank You

I have a HP notebook XP Home that stop booting windows a while back after it crashed during an SP boot mode/tried from XP to HP Notebook/XP/Will to boot any missing not in disk=NTLDR install It does not boot from any mode in the advanced menu safe command last known good config etc I can't boot from my Knoppix disk because it says that there is a checksum error even though I can boot from the same Knoppix disk on my desktop fine Mind you this laptop has only a CDRW DVDROM combo drive no floppy or zip I finally found my XP setup cd recently and tried to boot from it to perform a repair or access the recovery console if it's possible The problem is it won't even boot from that It gives me the quot NTLDR missing press ctrl alt delete to restart quot message when I boot from the Win Xp setup cd I have read about some of the solutions involving a floppy boot disk but I only have a cdrw dvdrom combo drive to work with Anybody have any ideas how to resolve this so I can boot the setup disk and run a repair
Make sure your boot sequence in the BIOS is set to boot from the cdrw/dvdrom drive first. Place in your disc and reboot.
Normally tapping the Delete key at boot will take you into the BIOS
Hey I need someone's help. I recently got a Hp Pavilion Slimline s3500f PC and I start it up and all I get is 'DISK BOOT FAILURE, DISK AND PRESS ENTER' I have no idea what to do. If you can guide me step by step that'll be helpful thanks
Monkeylos21, welcome to the forum. The error message that you are receiving is telling you that your hard drive has failed. Your only option is to replace it. If you don't have a backup of your personal data you will not be able to recover it. You should replace it with a drive the same size or larger than the one being replaced. This will assure that the Recovery media will work. Here is the Product Information for the computer. Also, here is a guide to help you replace the drive. lease click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Pavillion-Slimline-s3500f-w-Disk-Boot-Failure-error-BIOHD-8/td-p/5630097

one of my fans cuts off after 4 seconds and zv5000 pavilion will not boot. How much to fix fan??
Is it just the fan cutting out or does the whole machine turn off as well?
Do you see anything on the screen at all in the couple of seconds it stays on?
I have a Toshiba Notebook which will not boot. Was running Windows XP.
The following text message appears when notebook is powered on:
Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem.
No floppy drive only a DVD/CD drive. I do have 3 discs which came with the notebook labeled Revcovery and Application/Driver CD.
If I put any Cd in the drive and restart or power off and on, the screen just goes to the message. Can't seem to boot from a CD.
Any help is appreciate as toshiba won't help unless I write them a check.
Enter the BIOS Setup utility:
Press the [Esc] key while the system processes its Power On Self Test (POST). In order to use this method, the computer must be "off", meaning not in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode. Press the power button, then immediately press the [Esc] key (it doesn't hurt to hold the key down). When the POST finishes, you'll be prompted to press the F1 key to enter BIOS setup. Press the [F1] key to access the BIOS setup program.
Scout around the BIOS and set the boot order to CD_ROM First. That should redirect the boot process to the CD_ROM first.
