Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240

Q: Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240

Hi I have a Packard Bell OneTwo S It 10240 10 build Can't Anniversary on install update, stuck Windows came factory installed with W I upgraded to W last year after difficulty - upgrading to W via Windows update would Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240 not work kept installing to a certain percentage then would reboot to a blank screen and freeze indefinitely I needed Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240 to power off Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240 then on restart it would roll back to W This happened repeatedly despite trying all sorts - clean boots uninstalling antivirus and updating drivers etc I finally installed W using Media creation tool Everything ran fine But when the big update came in Novmember that failed to in the same way as above however all other monthly windows updates install fine Windows update never tried to push the Nov update on me again - I'm still on build now I was prompted to install the anniversary update by Windows update last week but that also failed in the same way as above Download ok and begins installing fine then at some point after complete I get the blank screen indefinitely and have to power off then it reverts back to W build Having checked Packard Bell website my model is not supported by Packard Bell for W and they are not providing any drivers for it This may explain the problems Can anyone suggest how to find out what the problem is and if there is a solution I've tried looking in Update history for error codes but there is none it doesn't even show an attempt to install the anniversary update Like i said every other monthly update since last year installs fine its just the big builds that won't Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't install Windows 10 Anniversary update, stuck on build 10240

Hi, simplest answer is avoid windows update and create the appropriate bootable medium or iso and use it as you did before.
As you know plenty of people have this sort of problem.

Note that the upgrade can introduce new issues for some (search the net), and some are delaying because of that. Older machines like yours could well exhibit such problems. So before you make this change, I recommend you create a disk image of your existing setup - a procedure you should do routinely anyway- to give another way of restoring your system.
E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for images.

It's best to have a physical bootable medium as it covers all of:
a. if you need to repeat the installation
b. as a bootable medium for recovery options
c. in case you need to do an in-place upgrade repair install

without taking up disk space.

I have tried just about every method out there!
I have been getting the automatic downloads and restarts since I purchased the computer and never once did I question it.
Then I hear about this "anniversary update" and all the new features and I think "well I want that, lemme get it."
Turns out I'M STILL ON THE SAME VERSION THAT I WAS WHEN I PURCHASED THE FREAKIN THING! Also, when I check update history, THE DAMNED THING HASN'T UPDATED A SINGLE TIME!

Do you have the Razer Synapse software installed? That seems to have been what's caused it for me. Unfortunately I seem no longer to be able to trigger the update, darn it, as Windows now feels it has updated and all's fine (it hasn't).
uninstall the Razer software and try again. Hopefully it hasn't messed you up completely.

My win pro build hasn't received the November update build while my other win home versions have I know I'm not the only one having this problem but here's my two cents On my xw I upgraded from win pro to win pro as soon as was available some months ago I still receive other windows updates I downloaded 1511 the 10240 November pro build build received 10 win update hasn't the most recent iso from the media creation tool but I don't have an option to mount it from the right click menu Both sfc and dism have no issues I would burn it do a disk but I've read other users say its just reinstalled build instead I was using another random win pro computer at work today and noticed it hasn't received the November update yet either Anyone else with win pro that did get the update Maybe this issue has more to it like when I upgraded to pro I had an issue with onedrive I don't really use it so I only disabled it from win 10 pro build 10240 hasn't received the November update build 1511 startup in the task manager but it as a service disappeared except for registry entries and program files and win 10 pro build 10240 hasn't received the November update build 1511 I haven't found a way to reinstall it yet I know I could do a clean install of windows but that's not my style I move from pc to pc over the years using disk images win 10 pro build 10240 hasn't received the November update build 1511 This onedrive issue is the only problem I've come across that I haven't figured out without a clean install I mean I wiped onedrive from my system completely registry keys and all but attempts to reinstall fall short error corrupted file During the attempted installation it places all its registry items and files including the file it says is corrupt Copy those files that are working on another computer no dice sfc and dism no issues I'm getting off track I was hoping the November update would fix it but now that's an issue too Maybe Microsoft delayed the November update on win pro Thanks in advance

RE : I downloaded the most recent iso from the media creation tool but I don't have an option to mount it from the right click menu.

Did you burn the iso to a bootable media, then insert the media to the computer ?
If that was what you did, then you would NOT see the Mount option.
Instead, you would see the Setup option. Use that to start the installation.

I have been an Insider since the beginning and have received all the updates during the past few months.  I'm currently stuck in build 10166 and Windows Update informs me that my device is current.  Checking for updates yields nothing new except that Defender is updated daily, sometimes more than once.  On the next page I see a "Fix Me" button, but when I click on that up comes a dialog asking if I want to discontinue future builds.  Nothing else happens.

I ran the update troubleshooter, which reports: "Problems found: Service registration is missing or corrupt.  Not fixed".  I don't know if this is the cause of my problem, nor do I know how to repair the service registration.  I'd appreciate any help as I suspect this will impair my upgrade to the final Windows 10 build on Wednesday.  Thanks.

A:Can't Get Update To Build 10240

What is the latest build you have, which has a full iso?  Sounds like you need to reinstall it, but I don't know if that will work now.  My latest full iso is 10162, and when I installed it, then came 10166 as download, and on the day of the 10240 release, I got it in Updates.

Do you have any important files on it, or was this just a tester?  Obviously you'd need to backup first, else.

If all else fails, use one of your eligible licenses to download and get Win10.  It should self-activate when you do.

Hi,
your windows 10 updates along with previous windows 8 continue to disappoint.
unfortunately there seems to be no way to avoid updates despite setting up metered connection etc. and once I finally agreed to run the update it got stuck at 91% after literally running for more than 12 hours. I really don't want to spend my time in forums trying to figure out a way to keep my pc running as it is - could you please advice the easiest way to solve this issue or avoid the update from being forced at all?
Thanks

A:windows 10 anniversary update stuck at 91%

Hi and welcome to windows central.
The fast and easier way to update to anniversary update is to use media creation tool from Microsoft website and make a bootable disc then update your system. This is the best practice as there is minimal chance of your system getting stuck on or during the update.
If you want to ignore the anniversary update on windows 10 PC , simply go to advanced setting under update and tick the box next to Differ Updates, this will enable you to get the threshold 2 future cumulative builds and ignore the anniversary update altogether.

Hi,
I previously posted a question under same topic and received 2 alternatives - 1) to copy the update on a bootable disk and 2) to differ updates in advanced settings.
Unfortuantely both doesnt work for me due to
1) I do not have a disk drive in my Samsung Series 5 Ultra book
2) I have windows for private use
Can you please come back with a third option?
Thank you!

Well that was somewhat expected I suppose but it's out now, build 14393.5 was pushed to both Slow and Release preview rings (it was released to Fast ring earlier this week on Monday). It pretty much is the Anniversary Update from all the reports and since it's been pushed now to all the rings that means it's pretty much done - the only thing now is to see it pushed to the Production ring aka general wide release which is expected on Tuesday August 2nd.

If you really can't wait to get it, it's currently available through Release Preview and I'm sure someone will throw together an ISO here in the next 24 hours or less for a clean install.

Now let the horror stories begin.

A:Windows 10 build 14393.5 is available and it's the Anniversary Update

There's a "14393.31" bubbling around at MS but nobody is sure if it will be "the" Anniv. build or not. Since the .5 took TWO cumulative updates after 14393.0 to get to, it's possible they could eek out one more .esd before next Tuesday.

At least this time my deployment scripts at work are 100% flawless with 14393. That November update.. oy veh what a mess.

I did a Clean Install of Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Update using the ISO I downloaded by Media Creation Tool. But after installing Windows 10, Some Apps in Store are not being downloaded. They are stuck at Downloading.
As Example, Xbox Identity Provider and Skype Preview both are stuck in Download Process when I am trying to UPDATE them. And Windows Central App is also stuck in Download Process when I am trying to INSTALL it.
I tried Restarting my PC, running wsreset command, tried Enabling and Disabling Windows Update Services. Nothing worked.
It's happening on both my Desktop and Laptop.

Hello friends,
I have tried to update my Lumia 930 (which was already nicely running Windows 10) to its latest Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update and got stuck on the logo screen for indefinitely long time.
The update seem to have proceeded smoothly until the device restarts and displays the blue logo and then stuck there for ages.
Tried to factory reset and it ran the reset and then again stuck at the logo screen forever. The Device Recovery Tool is helpless as it cannot establish a USB connection with the device.
Goddamn, I should've never tried the damn Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update.
Updating Windows 10 Mobile is always very painful and extremely risky, no idea why Microsoft cannot engineer a proper update in 2016.
Any help guys? :'(

Hi Anupam and welcome to the forum. You're probably better off downloading the appropriate ISO from Msoft as per the link below and clean installing the AU. just make sure to back up all your files and whatever you need to keep. Seems to work better than updating

I can't install Docker for Windows, as my Windows 10 Education version says it is still build 10240, and not the November update (build 10586).
The Windows Update utility says my system is up-to-date. I can't install an update manually either using the Windows media creation tool, as the software download page (click here won't display. I've checked on viruses, but no harmful items found. What to do next?

We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 41-47 show removal of the service bay door and replacement of the hard drive. Just install the SSD in place of the hard drive. You can remove the mSSD drive. It is not useful with a main SSD drive. It was designed only to speed up a regular mechanical drive.  Do you have a Windows 10 installation disk? You can download an image file and create a Windows 10 DVD or thumb drive installation media from the Media Creation Tool Microsoft webpage.  Post back so I can see if you are with us here. I know this is odd, but I saw this on another site and it has worked for me on 2 computers so far. Click on the anniversary update, let it check your system and then let it download the update. As soon as it starts to update, disconnect the wireless or LAN. It was able to update after this. Once it got past this section, I connected to the wireless again. About to do this with my 3rd computer. None were able to update before.

First of all, I'm coming from Windows 7. I'm one that was able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Am I able to perform a clean install of Windows 10 using the same license I currently have on Windows 10? How would I obtain my current key, then? Is it s imply the Product ID listed under Control Panel>System ?

Can I download a copy of the installation media which already contains the AU update?

How would I install Windows 10 onto a M.2 drive? Is it as easy as picking the hard drive to install Windows on during setup?

Alternatively, create bootable usb stick or dvd

Boot from it, choose custom install, delete all partitions on drive you want to use (backup data first of course), and skip key entry as not needed as you have already upgraded.

The Insider Previews aren't stable releases they are test builds... you shouldn't use them on a primary machine. If you need to recover files follow this guide:

You can download Windows 10 and clean install:

I downloaded the Anniversary update on my Alienware M17 laptop (16Gb Ram, i7CPU). The download all went well, but when I restarted, it is still stuck, after 4 hours.
The screen says:

Working on updates 1%
Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while.

I was able to download the Anniversary Update ISO, before I did the Anniversary Update, so I do have that as a backup, but won't that destroy all the data on my C drive?

My questions are:

1. How long did the Anniversary Update take on your PC?

2.. What is the recommended action to take ?

A:Anniversary Update Stuck at 1%

1) I haven't done the upgrade online on any of my 3 systems. I always used an .ISO.

I have an old laptop set to treat WiFi as a metered connection. When I tried to update to the latest build (14393.10) of the Anniversary Update through WiFi, it froze at 6%. I connected it to my router with an ethernet cable, and the update proceeded quickly.

2) If you have the .ISO, you can mount it as a virtual disk. You can upgrade from that (just launch setup.exe). You have the option of preserving your files and "apps".

You could also create a bootable USB drive or DVD from the .ISO. You'd then have the option of doing an upgrade (if you booted into the existing Windows installation) or a clean install (if you booted from the flash drive or DVD).

I suggest spending a little time in the Tutorials here. Not all of them are organized in the most readable fashion, but they cover all the details.

Hold the Power button down 8-10 seconds or until the computer shuts down. Power it back up and the chances are very good that it will pick up right where it left off. I've had this happen to me a couple of times lately when downloading the Insiders upgrades and it corrected itself both times.

A:Trouble trying to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607

Hello JRAllen72653 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

The second item on the agenda did opt to use a 3rd party program not the Windows option to mount the iso downloaded onto each machine or run from a flash drive where the setup.exe main executable would be manually started to watch each upgrade install take place. Once all systems were set which included one desktop only lately being upgraded from 7 Home Premium to 10 Home and then still waiting for the update to go on before return to owner was to visit a MS download iso type page to grab both the 32bit and 64bit smaller Dual Edition iso downloads to keep onhand.

For a final fix to all older already made up flash drives for the Threshold 2 update last November as well as for Windows Insider Preview builds were wiped almost but not all by overwrite of the older files and folders with the newer by extraction from the RS1 update's own iso file to update the usb media.

Now after download of the RS1 that might have been the first move in order to boot live from usb media for either upgrade or clean install depending on preference. The iso mounting however did work out here as another alternative option to the WU.

Hello,I recently purchased a new 2016 model Spectre x360 (PN X7V20UA). It came running Windows 10 1511, and I would like it to be running 1607 (Anniversary Update). However, the update to 1607 is not being offered inside of Windows Update. I've installed everything that was available, include today's November patch releases, to no avail. Windows Update shows "Your device is up to date." This link http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/hps-new-spectre-x360-is-probably-the-best-pc-laptop-around/ says that the 1607 update is being blocked on this model temporarily due to driver compatability issues. You can check in settings > system > about > OS build
The statement from MS said it will roll out by region, model and time zone over the next few weeks. It's been a week since it released publicly and a few people have received it while many others haven't
So try to have patience

I still have an old install of the initial version 10240. I would like to confirm that the CU actually has updated it. 'winver' only reveals Version 10.0 (Build 10240).
Where can I find the 'long' version like in 10240.17113 ?

In the registry I found that string here:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5FDD51E2-A9D0-44CE-8C8D-162BA0C591A0}\

and many in this sub string:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ComponentDetect

I'm on Windows 10 Pro(build 10240). What I want to know is do I have to be on the newest win 10 build or just stick with what I have? Also on Microsoft's website with the list of updates for the "initial release" I don't have all the updates listed. Should I manually download them and apply to my PC? Thanks

.

A:Build 10240

Hi, you are now 2 major builds behind, as you have just the first release of Win 10. 10.0.10586 came out in Nov 2015 and 10.0.14393 in August this year, still being delivered to customers.

That suggest you have Windows update disabled, or are not connected to the internet, or Windows update is not working.

So you can either fix those problems, if any, or manually download the current iso and burn a DVD or USB disk manually, or directly create a bootable medium using MS's media creation tool, or just mount the iso and proceed from there.

Hello, I have been trying to use custom themes on my laptop for the past 2 months, but none of them work fully, and just end up changing the desktop wallpaper, cursor and some colours on the windows, etc.

example of the theme I'm currently trying (what it's supposed to look like):

What it looks like on my computer
(ignore the start button, it's from classic shell :x)

I've tried lots of tools like UxStyle, UltraUXThemePatcher, programs to replace explorerframe.dll, etc. but none of them work.

I've had this problem even back when I was still using windows 8.1

Win 8.1 theme (what it's supposed to look like):

What it looked like on my computer
This is my laptop, though I don't know if the laptop itself is related to the problem...

Would be grateful if anyone knows what's the problem. Been wasting too much time trying to get this working.....

The 1511 build installed yesterday and since then I have been having trouble booting up computer in AM. It gets stuck with an arrow on a black screen. I have to turn off PC and turn back on for it to boot up into windows. Even then, it takes forvever.

I want to revert back to the previous Windows 10 build 10240. (I think that was the build number). Do I just use recovery to 'go back to an earlier build' ? Is there anything else I need to do first?
I understand that after the recovery I have to run the tool that hides updates for Windows 10. Do I have that right?
If all else fails, I did a full system back up just a few days before the update to the new Build happened.

A:Need to revert from Build 1511 (10586.36) to 10240

It's not the November 11th Threshold 2 update or otherwise referred to the 10586.93 version 1511 build pushed by way of the Windows updates but a flimsy upgrade to the newer build as the actual problem! When seeing the 10565 and 10576 builds each upgraded to the 10586 not one problem was seen while the distance between the 10240 and 10586 being greater as well as the 10240 not being so good as an upgrade build to start with you are much better simply going for the 10586's clean install.

That can be done by first downloading the updated Media Creation tool if you have an 8gb usb flash drive available as a 4gb will be too small since the TH2 release is actually a roll up of both the Home and Pro editions as well as seeing both the 32bit and 64bit options! Since 10 is already on and had been activated the clean install will not only see the 10586.39 go on fresh for the actual best end results but upgrade the build you are running as well.

As for the existing recovery options found in the F8 menu's Advanced recovery options the Reset option will likely see the 10240 build restored as long as nothing on the drive has changed since the TH2 upgrade took place like running the DiskCleanup tool or removing the Windows.old if created.

You might have to boot live from 10 media to get there however if you are unable to get into the F8 boot options directly! And that would bring you right back to the need to download 10 directly either by the MC Tool or going to the Tech Bench site for the Home dual 32/64bit iso download from there. You might want to consider going that route to begin with and save yourself extra efforts at a later time! First read over the guide for that. Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums

Guys,

Would you please give me a hand in this one. I use Windows 10 32-bit, build 10240, which came after I upgraded from Windows 7, having no problems at all, keeping my apps and files.

Now, I had option in WU to update to 1511 10586 recently, couple of weeks ago, it failed at 32% and 6% on Installing drivers. Then, I downloaded MCT and made and DVD with the installation and repeated everything. It failed again at same point. I read about problems with SD Card, I have none of it. Then I checked files setupact and setaperr, where I found that my Gamepad has error, I pulled USB Dongle out of computer. Another error was WLAN, but I do not have it, only cable modem router, connected directly to computer by cable.

I use PS2 mouse, there is no USB Peripherals connected and desperately want to upgrade do 10586 build. Everytime it failed at 32% point, and restored my previous version.

Could you help please.

Hello everybody,

I had a problem with updating Windows 7, it just hanged on "Checking for uptades"... I've read other topics concerning this issue and followed instructions to remove "wuauserv" from the registry.

The next step was to run "%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection AutoUpdate 132 %SystemRoot%\inf\au.inf" from the run box, but that step gave me error "Installation failed".

Now I can't even start Windows Update service, I'm getting error "Windows cannot check for update because service is not running..."

Any solutions? How to install wuauserv?

Thanks

I tried to update using the usual method, as the new update was present. I tried twice, and it failed twice. 2nd time it became clear that the Razer Synapse software (recent purchase of a discount keyboard) was causing the issue. So, I've uninstalled that. Fine, so now I go to hit the update button again, but Windows tells me it's up to date? I know for a fact it isn't, because it just told me it could not install the update and reverted to the previous version. What gives?
So, I can see it has downloaded the update to the '$WINDOWS.~BT' folder, but it will not trigger by running the 'setup.exe' file. My question is, how do I proceed now? How do I trigger the update I've downloaded to install, when Windows seems to have decided it's already installed it?

Version Build is the one I am running I don't know what happened but it is just stuck there at I tried several solutions that I found on this forum and googling around but no success so far The main two that I tried several times were ---- ---- stopping the wuauserv by going into CMD as an administrator and running net stop wuauserv then deleting all the files in C Windows SoftwareDistribution then restarting the service and requesting the update again but still at even after leaving my computer on for a couple of days ----- ------- the second one was using the quot Update troubleshooter quot from windows which is linked both here and in the Microsoft Forums but that didn't do anything I tried to do both by doing slight variations during the process such 14372 update STUCK Build Version 10.0.14372 Windows AT 0% as stopping restarting the bits service after stopping restarting the Windows update STUCK AT 0% Version 10.0.14372 Build 14372 wuauserv first method or restarting the computer before running the commands But no success yet I don't feel reinstalling windows and installing all my programs again since I am crunching hours trying to finish a project and the only reasons why I am desperate to fix this problem is because I am getting a warning saying that my PC will restart every few hours If I don't solve this issue You can see the Windows update STUCK AT 0% Version 10.0.14372 Build 14372 screenshots below first image is the stuck at screenshot - second image is the warning from windows saying that my pc will restart every few hours

I am on build 14393 and I am trying to update to 14905 or 14915, but when computer restarts after trying to update I get a message that windows is rolling back to previous version (my version 14393), without making the update. I tried through windows update, i tried also downloading the iso and update windows via iso and i tried updating via windows media creation tool. All efforts had the same result, which was rolling back to version 14393. Any thoughts? Must be a minimum hard drive space available? Cause i have 55 to 60 GB free disk space.

Is your version 14393 an Insider version?? If not you can not update to 14905 or 14915.These versions are exclusively, for now at least, reserved for the Insider. The standard version (official general release) is 14393.105 .

My first impressions:

Pros:
Seems a bit faster overall - I did a complete system image backup in 00:02:09 (previously took 00:02:35)
OS install uses less space (at least for my installation)
Event viewer shows no new instances (I had two known issues before and they are still there)
Reapplied many of Brinks tutorial suggestions and most of them worked... except this one:

gpedit management notice is missing (second screen shot) so I can't say for sure if it will work (or not).

Cons:
Win10BGChanger1.2.1 still doesn't work (as expected)
Sound removed from notifications by default (not a con for me though)
Installed default audio playback to my headset - changed to speakers
All in all, working well so far (for me).

I've downloaded the update for my laptop through windows update 3 times now. Each time it completes download, then restarts, configures updates, then gives me the notification: "We couldn't finish installing updates" Following that, a check of my update history shows no failed attempt or any reference to the update being downloaded. There is not at any stage an error code.
I have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter with no result.
Any ideas will be welcome.

(I have a monthly isp download limit of 10 gb and with the speed i get it takes 4 hours to download the update so it has to be done after midnight so it doesn't count against the download limit )

A:Anniversary update won't install - no error code

Hi, download the ISO manually and create a bootable medium (which is useful in various circumstances).
(How - where- see the Tutorial section or search the net- not difficult).

That way you download once and can retry and have it available for other purposes. Also you avoid issues with Windows update.

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Disable any AV. Disconnect any devices you don't need. Uninstall any program that affects or modifies your GUI.

Do a clean boot then try the upgrade using the Win 10 DVD/USB.

If it fails again, you can have a look at the log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

All in all, working well so far (for me).

Trying to install the KB3185614 (anniversary 1607) update, but getting the 'couldn't complete the updates undoing changes' messages after 100%.  System log shows a 0x8024200D error code. Tried.... 1. uninstalling all anti-virus apps, inc luding cleanup tools afterwards.2. deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder contents.3. downloading the update manually from the MS catalog site and installing from that4. doing an upgrade install using the latest 1607 iso on a dvd from within Windows Anyhting else I could try before I go for the last resort of a clean install using said dvd?. thanksjoe

Hello,

Windows 10 proposed me to update my Windows 10 build 10xxx to 14xxx ( xxx means parts I don't remember ). The update has sucessfuly completed, computer restarted and the login screen was displayed.

I was typing my correct password but windows was sending me at the lock screen all the time without any reason or message. I deleted the password via cmd in Windows Installer. Now it still happens but it just don't ask for the password, reloading the lock screen in loop, like you can see on this video:

Do someone knows how can I resolve this?

Hi Francislaw and welcome to the Ten forums!

I found some similar behavior on other forums and it looks like disconnecting USB mouse helps.
So, if you have USB mouse connected, disconnect it and then run diagnostic and updates.

Edit: disconnect anything on USB...

Basically my old HDD died from bad sectors and I had to format and install Windows Enterprise on a back up hdd that was flooded and stuck on install) fresh clean checking updates Update (on Windows with useless documents from the past Went ahead done what I had to Windows Update stuck on checking updates (on fresh and clean install) do Windows Update stuck on checking updates (on fresh and clean install) and left Windows to check for updates Steam install some games and League of Legends update However everything finished but Windows was still checking for updates and I noticed the svchost exe netsvcs one uses about GB out of RAM Immediately knew that this was caused by the Windows Update service that's under it However turning Windows Update off is never a smart thing to do and I don't have the kind of time to manually download updates I know that it will probably blast me with updates has happened in the past but never used up so much RAM and finished way faster than hours with all my usual post installation stuff Anyways some info you should probably know -I'm using a Wireless adapter TP-LINK TL-WN N and I have read threads here that Windows Update would sometimes fail to do what it should with Wireless adapters unfortunatelly that isn't an option at the moment -Resetting Windows Update manually and through Fix It doesn't work So first thing I'm looking at is updating the Windows Update client please do tell if you think otherwise or if not link me to the newest Windows update client or probbably any hotfixes that could fix the problem never done this before and wouldn't want to mess up so I decided to ask you guys Another short question I have Does editing the group policy to stop Windows Update from auto restarting after updates still work as before I have not done this yet on this computer yet just want to know

A:Windows Update stuck on checking updates (on fresh and clean install)

Hi Qualtrox,
might be due to fact that Enterprise and Ultimate, are different versions.
If you using the Ultimate key on an Enterprise install, or visa versa, then it will hang as its failing validation.
We can check if you run this too, copy/paste the output

After installing the Windows Anniversary Build startup takes about seconds to complete There is a black screen that appears Black Sta... Build during 10 After - Screen Windows Anniversary after the HP logo After Windows 10 Anniversary Build - Black Screen during Sta... and the spinning circle appears This black screen is shown for about seconds before startup continues nbsp This problem occurred last year on this laptop when I initially installed Windows It After Windows 10 Anniversary Build - Black Screen during Sta... is After Windows 10 Anniversary Build - Black Screen during Sta... definitely related to the fact that the machine has two video adapters An AMD Radeon nbsp adapter and an Intel adapter If I disable either adapter it boots quickly The problem with turning off either adapter is that the screen resolution is not correct Circles look elliptical nbsp I found a better fix for this last year but I have forgotten what it was So now startup has regressed to the former problem Does anyone know what the fix is Before the anniversary update it was working with both cards enabled nbsp nbsp This is NOT a virus So don't even go there I have used device manager to disable the adapters and nbsp uninstall nbsp drivers Windows reinstalled drivers no help Used AMDs device detection app it reported the latest driver was installed Did a hard reset on the laptop nbsp nbsp

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

Can you check to see what OS version you have? Check in settings > system > OS build. It should show something like 14393.5 or 14393.10

After the second boot on the updating screen, the one with the spinning thing. When it gets to 83%, my screen just freezes out of nowhere. I tried switching off and back on again but it reverts back to my previous version of Win10. I tried getting Microsoft Support to help but their service wasn't all that great and I wasn't too happy with them. So I'm calling on you guys to help me out.

So this is very frustrating... I'm trying to install the anniversary update, and used the upgrade assistant. But when it restarts, it flashes for just a second the update screen, then shuts off and restarts again and loads without the update...

Any idea what I did wrong? I even reset the PC and it's still causing issues...

Any help would be appreciated.

This box came with windows 7 64 bit Home OS.  I recently upgraded to the windows 10 OS in order to take advantage of the latest OS.  Around August the windows 10 anniverary update became available but upon attempting multiple times it have failed.  I receive a 0xc1900200 error and a reference to the system reserved partition not being big enough.  I don't seem to see a partition called System Reserved partition but have tried to expande what looks like a 100 MB SRP, using Partition Magic.  It doesn't let me change this 100 MB partition.  The PC runs fine but because of MS auto updates, which I need to keep other MS software up to date, I get regular failures of the Anniversary update release.

I have an existing Windows 10 Pro installation. My partitions are:
system reserved: 500 mb
C: boot, page file, primary partition
E: logical drive
F: logical drive
I would like to do a clean install with WIN 10 Anniversary Update (1607), and convert my disk from BIOS to UEFI.
What modifications would i need to do to GPTgen while upgrading and maintaining my programs and data?

Thanks

A:clean install with anniversary update & disk conversion BIOS to UEFI

Modifications....none.

Windows 10 already utilizes GPT partitioning....on a clean install. The only thing you would need to do is change your BIOS firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS. You will need to confirm that in your BIOS. Or to check with in windows.....in the search bar of cortana, type system information and when the window pops up, scroll down to BIOS mode......here's mine.

I am trying to get my PC to upgrade to insider build 14332. At the moment I am on build 14316.

I have sometimes seen build 14332 available in Settings/Update, but after trying to get this, the PC is now stuck with 'Preparing to install updates 100%' There is no $windows directory, though this may of got deleted when I cleaned up system files. There is about 6GB of free space on the SSD partition.

What can I do to get the upgrade to run?

A:Build 14332 upgrade stuck 'Preparing to install updates 100%'

I believe you are going to need more room.

Kill the current update attempt, reboot and try it again only skip the Updates part. See if that works.

Filling out your System Specs would be a help.

See here: System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums

Also, how big is the SSD?
