Laptop will not power on, power/charging LED blinks 9 times...

Q: Laptop will not power on, power/charging LED blinks 9 times...

Hello, I have a ProBook 640 G1 that will not power on. After pressing the power button, with a battery installed and the AC adapter attached, the Charging LED blinks white 9 times . Unplugging the AC adapter results in 9 amber blinks. The light on the AC Adapter itself remains solid green. With the battery removed, and attached to the AC Adapter, three lights blink continously : The light on the power button (white), the Charging LED (AMBER), and the Power LED (White). The light on the AC Adapter itself remain solid green. In both cases pressing or pressing and holding the power button has no effect. There is no indication that power is actually making in to the MB; no BIOS , nothing at all. I do not have access to another unit with the same battery or AC adapter in order to try swapping those out. Thanks,Shane

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My G72 will not start.  I have tried all the tricks for unplugging power cable, battery, holding the button down, etc. I have pulled RAM, verified power to the system board using a voltmeter.... No matter what I try, when I put the battery in and hook it to power, then press the power button, the AC power LED blinks three times.  It does this if the power is not hooked up; it does not do it if the battery's removed (with AC power). I have tried two separate AC adapters, known working ones. I have voltage at the system board, so I don't think it's the power connector.  The system responds only with the 3 blinks when I hit the power switch. What do the three blinks mean? I can find nothing online specific, and it's out of warranty.

Hi,
I picked up this Alienware 5700 off ebay to hopefully refurbish for my son but I'm new at this and still learning and so this thing has me baffled. The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:No power, no lights but green light on power supply blinks rapidly

Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on.  If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep.  Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip.  I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?

A:OptiPlex 790 Wont power on power light blinks amber

Which form factor, desktop, mini-tower, small form, ultra-small form?
From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.
Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

I doubt anyone here remembers but I made a topic here last month regarding a laptop I was attempting to fix Basically someone spilt soda over it work... light Laptop power won't blinks just and tried to repair it but after that failed he gave it to me and told me that if I could fix it I could keep it At that point the problem was when I turned it on the screen would stay black but I could hear noises and the power light slowly flashed I noticed that there was no memory in it though and since the issues seemed to reflect that I decided to buy some ram and hope that it was going Laptop won't work... power light just blinks to be my only problem Well unfortunatly it wasn t Now the problem has changed that the power light flashes faster than before but the screen still remains blank Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be EDIT On a second test it appers that the flashing is the same speed as before Also when I attempt to turn it on the ligh will stay on for a second and I can almost hear the laptop starting up but that stops when the light begins to blink nbsp

Daughter last used laptop on battery power and ran id down completely until computer shut off. She plugged in the power cord and it would not come on when pressing the power button.  Laptop was plugged in overnight and this morning same issue - the power light just blinks five times when you press the power button. This is the same behaviour whether plugged into power or not. I've tried holding down the power button. Tried with battery removed and A/C power, but then no light comes on at all.  I've tried removing the battery and A/C power, holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then install battery and plug in A/C power, but no difference.  I tried a different A/C power adapter and no difference. Any ideas?

I replaced a Compaq board that will power not LED blinks on Power continuously, burned with another from Geeks com The boards are similar in that they use the Compaq Power LED blinks continuously, will not power on front-panel connections and support the same socket- processors They are different in that the old board uses SDRAM and the new DDR and the new one has on-board video and the old did not and the new one has a twenty-pin power connector and the old one had -pin It is with the -pin -pin difference that I think my problem lies Here s what I did I reasoned that many power supplies have -pin connectors and you simply let the additional pins hang off unconnected when connecting that twenty-four pin connector to a twenty-pin board So that s what I Power LED blinks continuously, will not power on did in this case except this was the power supply that came originally with the computer It won t power up at all Anyone have any knowledge on this The Computer was originally a Compaq Presario SPXE with Intel chipset The new board is here http www geeks com details asp invtid - -PB-BO amp cat MBB nbsp

A:Dell Inspiron 14R SE charging only when laptop power is off

In descending order of probability:
Replace the AC adapter first.  Use a Dell OEM AC adapter ONLY - - NOT a third party adapter.
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC power jack in the system:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter is unknown, the battery will not charge.

Hello,

This problem is from a friend of mine but he doesn't has a computer now. Yesterday he was charging his powerbank through his Laptop (Asus bought 3 months ago) USB port. After a while the computer was shutdown and won't turn on, even when it's plugged through its power adapter.

Is there any solution to this?
Thanks!

A:Laptop wont turn on after charging power bank

Hi and welcome to TSG.

As annoying as it can be to have to do it, your best option if it appears totally dead is to RMA the laptop if it is only 3 months old. Fiddling about with it too much trying to diagnose the problem could end up invalidating any warranty your friend has.

The only simple checks I would do are to try and power it up with and without the power cord connected.
Then remove the battery (assuming it is a removable one) and try it again with the power adapter attached.

It could be a problem with the laptop or that the power brick has just failed, it happens occasionally.

Hello,

I have one of the newer model Dell Inspirion laptops. How do I turn off the light that accompanies the power button and the charge light on the front. I'm able to turn off my backlit keyboard, but these two other lights are quite bright and annoying when I'm trying to play movies in a dark room.

A:Laptop lights (power/charging) - Dell Inspiron

Hi DELLUSER16486,
What is the exact system model?
The power led and the leds on front are also used as diagnostic indicators. If there is any hardware issue on the machine, these leds help isolate the source of the issue. Hence, there is no way to disable the leds from turning on, as they would be connected to a cable soldered to the motherboard.
Download the service manual / specifications for a better understanding of the machine - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download it from the Manual section.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Laptop will not power on. AC adaptor works, indicator light is white when plugged in. After pressing power button the Wifi (F12) button LED blinks once - then nothing. I've tried removing the battery, unplugging, holding the power button down for 15, 30 and 60 seconds and retried, but the same thing happens. There is no fan or any sounds coming from the laptop, the only indication of life is the power LED and the single blink of the Wifi (F12) LED.

Could be an issue with the battery connectors that connect the battery to the motherboard. However try these 2 steps and let me know if it makes a difference. Step 1: disconnect all external devices including battery & AC adapterPress and hold the power button for 10 seconds to discharge any or all static from the PC. Step 2: Connect back the battery & AC adapterpress the windows key + B and at the same time press the power button. This should clear the BIOS (Incase of BIOS issues or interrupted updates)

"Their was sound coming from speaker but seems broken as its repeats the same sound"...

This is a strong indication that the problem is with your computer and not with the monitor. You were using another monitor while the broken monitor was being repaired. It sounds like you will have to delete the video driver from the device manager and let Windows reinstall it automatically

When I sign out of my user profile on my 2 Acer laptops and then click shut down, the computer goes black indicating that it is shutting down. However, the power light blinks until it shuts down completely. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or what but when hibernation is disabled, it tells you its shutting down and the power light doesn't blink (instead it shuts down normally). This is not a UEFI BIOS, it is a Legacy BIOS therefore it doesn't have the option to enable or to disable fast startup. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 5250 and Acer Aspire 5749 laptops. My Acer desktop doesn't do this, but it has a UEFI BIOS.

Can anyone understand what I am saying?

Also, if someone understands can they please help me with this issue?

I hit the power button on the monitor and nothing happens. None of the buttons work on the monitor. I just bought this about a week ago...whats going on?

A:Power LED on monitor on, but blinks off/on every 5 seconds

Usually when a situation like this occurs, the monitor is not receiving a signal from the PC.
Double check your connections, since it's only been a week, maybe take it back to the store and have them check it unless you can check it on a different system.

She called crying and wants my help. I found a few posts, but no help. No lights come on anywhere. She has another computer, she said I could pull the power suppy from, but it won't come on either. I would buy her a power supply or just a better refurb, but I was ill for six month and have just become mobile again.

One sight said to hit reset on the mother board. Where would that be? I don't see one. What else could I try, that wouldn't cost anything, but might fix it or at least pinpoint the problem. That way she won't have to waste money, on parts that aren't needed.

A:EMachine ET1160-05 won't start after several power blinks

Emachine power supplies AND motherboards are notorious for failing. Personally, I don't trust those AMD chipsets either. Since this computer is not that old, there is a slightly better chance that it's the PSU, and not the board.

This is all very gut wrenching, but it is most likely that the PSU is bad. It's the "power blinky thing", that makes me say that. f you have a digital voltmeter you could check for the proper voltages being present in the PSU before you buy a replacement.

"Reset" on the board, is an issue with resetting the "CMOS" and it doesn't really seem to apply to the symptoms you describe. There is no actual button for that BTW.

That said, I never cry when one of my computers fail. I get very angry, and throw its parts all around. I guess we all cope in our own way.

I have a new problem. My monitor has begun to blink repeatedly after coming out of power saving mode (when the screen turns off automatically due to inactivity).

I have no problems with this in that past. This problem just started out of the blue a few days ago. Initially, it would just blink once or twice coming out of power saving mode, now it might blink 10 or more times before the monitor stays on. Once the monitor is on, it functions fine. The blinking only occurs after coming out of power saving mode.

A:Monitor blinks repeatedly coming out of power saving.

Hey there, CSSteve.

Have you recently altered your screen's resolution? Often this can be the issue when it comes to blinking. I'd suggest booting in Safe Mode and adjusting the resolution back to the default or other appropriate resolution. Let me know how this goes. Good luck.

I am working on my in-laws computer (product number: G4B05AA). After a recent update from AMD the computer began to exhibit problem. First, it did not run smoothly. Then blue screens happened regularly (Thread Stuck in Device Driver) from which the only way to restart was to unplug the computer. One time it would not power up. Following the instructions for a hard reset worked. After letting it run all night because I thought that Windows 10 was trying to do an update, it still ran poorly. Then there came the final blue screen (same issue). After unplugging it, it will not restart at all. Even a hard reset will not work, no noises, only the continuously blinking power button. All periperals, except keyboard and mouse, have been removed. It does not appear to be an overheating issue. Thanks for your help.

My daughter's emachines 4682 had been giving her problems then finally went kaput. When you try to turn it on, the green light surrounding the power button just blinks fast, but the computer will not boot or even turn on. Power supply, maybe?

I decided to remove the cover. For safety, I unplugged mouse/k'board/monitor, then took the cover off, wiggled some wires, hit the power button and the light stayed green, fan spun, HD spun. I quickly plugged in all peripherals, got to admin screen for XP Home, but could not get mouse or K'board to work (I don't think I got them plugged in quickly enough - both are USB, mouse is wireless), so I couldn't get past that screen. I manually turned off, tried to restart and... back to the old problem, fast-blinking green light, no power. I'm scratching my head on this one.

Thanks for any help.

When you press the power button, the power light goes on steady, the HDD indicator blinks once, then the system shuts off. Never get anything on the screen.

Once in a great while, the system will actually boot into Windows and works fine.

The battery is charged, the charger is good.

I have tried removing RAM, HDD and can't get into BIOS even, unless it is one of those off chances the system stays on.

Could it be something is shorting out? I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the power button to discharge, but no luck.

A:Dell Inspiron 17R Power Light on, HDD Blinks, then Shuts Off

It sounds like the computer isn't getting past the POST (Power On Self Test) where is looks at all the peripherals to be sure there isn't problem.

You have pulled the hdd and re-seated it, removed the RAM and re-seated it.  But if there is more than one RAM module you should remove one of the two modules (assuming that there are only two) to see if you have a bad module.

Who is the manufacturer of the hdd?

Hello all I am a rook to this forum but somewhat knowledgeable with computers I seem to be having trouble with our eMachines T computer I personally hate eMachines power rapidly T2385 eMachines blinks button and will never buy one However eMachines T2385 power button blinks rapidly this PC was given to us by my mother-in-law because they couldn t get it to work They said it wouldn t power up anymore and they said that if I can fix it we can keep it I thought it would be nice to fix and give to our kids to have a computer that they can play games on Nothing fancy Since it was a powering up issue I figured it eMachines T2385 power button blinks rapidly would be a power supply issue I was right and wrong at the same time I took my power supply from my PC and put it inside the eMachines and it does power up However some strange things seem to be happening As soon as I plug the power cord from the wall into the power supply the computer automatically powers up I don t push the power button whatsoever I even hold the power button in to power the PC down and it does not respond It doesn t power down The only way I get it to power down is by flipping the switch on the back of the power supply The old power supply got no response from hitting the power button No fans turning Nothing The power supply I put in does get a response The CPU fan kicks on The power supply fan kicks on The HDD powers up But nothing comes up on the monitor It remains blank I have tried unplugging the power to the PC and holding the power button in for approx seconds to clear out any residual power but it still does what I mention I have not tried clearing the BIOS as I m not sure if that is really relevant to what our problem is Any advice would be greatly appreciated I have heard a lot about eMachines having problems with the power supply blowing the motherboard so that seems to be my number one lead in this However I m just trying to throw this out there and see if anyone has experienced the same thing and knows exactly what it is I ve looked on eMachines website for the manual and read through the manual and it mentions nothing about troubleshooting for a rapidly blinking power button and what code that would stand for nbsp

A:eMachines T2385 power button blinks rapidly

Two observations I can make from this.

In 1. I would say the power button is jammed and making a constant contact as this would cause it to start without being pressed.

In 2. That the old power supply has failed.

You would need to dissasemble the machine to test the power button with a test meter and also use a test meter on the old power supply to confirm it has no output.

Clearing the fault on the power button may get the machine going.

I know this sounds crazy but I've seen it work once - flip that 115 switch to 230 (probably leave it there for a second or so - no idea if time has anything to do with it or not) and then flip it back to 115. I have had my Hp laptop for 3 years now. It has been working perfectly, up until 2 weeks ago. It would not turn on when I clicked the power button. After clicking the power button, 15 minutes later I noticed it just came to life. Sometimes it doesn't turn on at all for days, but sometimes I click the power button and it boots within 15-30 minutes. When i click the power button, nothing happens at all for that duration. No fans, no lights nothing. The only light on is the power cord button that is always on when i plug it in. I did replace the power cord, and tried cleaning out the insides, it did nothing. Should i just replace the motherboard?

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

Hello, I have a one-two year old Compaq Presario and it has stopped receiving power a couple of months ago. The battery currently doesn't work. I took it in to Micro Center, and they saudered the power port. That fixed the problem temporarily, but, two months later it stopped recieving power. I would really like to get some stuff off the hardrive, but to do that I would have to give power to the laptop. So my question to everyone is, is there any alternate way I can give the laptop power? One more thing, the power cord works perfectly.

I sent it in for repair once, but it is happening again and I can't find my receipt so they won't honor the warentee. Bought it last Feb. Funny thing is that Compaq told me that this is
not a common problem and tried to blame me!!!!

Hey, got quite a problem with my laptop.. It's a Medion Erazer X7813, worked well for ~2 years.
I was doing a graphics card benchmark yesterday and it stopped in the middle of it(monitored temperature, it was at ~80 degrees Celsius when it turned off). No bluescreen or anything just off and I couldnt restart after that(no fans nothing). I thought it might be the power supply, so I tested it, but it was doing 19v when not plugged in, but when I plugged it in and unplugged it again it was at 1v. When testing I unintentionally shorted the power supply and it showed 1v after that just as it did after plugging it in, is it shorting inside the laptop? Could it be the battery or something more serious like the MB? Any ideas are welcome!

I have a Toshiba A105 Satellite and I'm having some issues with my AC adapter and the computer recognizing power.

This problem started a week or so ago. The problem is that the laptop, with the ac adapter will be plugged in, will all of the sudden stop "recognizing" the charge. I can't say with specificity as to any factors that might be contributing to this. Sometimes I have to finagle with the part of the ac adapter that plugs into the "brick" to correct the problem, although sometimes it seems as though it is an issue with the part directly plugged into the computer.

The computer store where I purchased my laptop in August has advised that the connector pin in my charger has broken and this has also broken the charging pin in the side of the laptop. The laptop will work when plugged in but will not charge. Surely this is a terrible design fault of the HP charger. Can anyone advice if this is repairable by HP?

Hi all,My Yoga with Win10 have two issues: 1. When I turn off the laptop and the display goes off, the computer will "turn off" but not fully - cooling fans continue to running. Hold down the button to turn off after 5 seconds shuts down completely. 2. When using the notebook Batteries so when you turn on the power cable laptop freezes ... when I unplug the power cord notebook unfreezes. Either helps you connect and disconnect cables as long as it starts to work with the attached cable, or restart ... Does anyone have any advice? Thanks jam

Just replaced the battery in my XPS 1340 and found out I have charging issues. When I plug in a charger, Windows sees it but won't charge the old total depleted battery, instead, runs off ac power. Tried a different charger and a new battery with 30% charge but same results. As a last chance effort, I replaced the male prong power adapter in the computer. Now Windows doesn't see the charger and will not run on ac.
Is there something in the Bios that needs to be done to fix this or am I to assume it's a motherboard issue and retire this little workhorse.

A:Battery not charging after power adapter replacement

Dead batteries cannot be charged. Remove the dead battery and try using just the original dell adapter that came with the laptop alone. You cannot use other models adapters or batteries.

Dear Dell Customer Support,
I recently purchased a XPS 13, which, despite some challenges with the touchpad, works just fine. In order to boost the battery capabilities and independence from power sources I purchased a power companion. The first charges however, despite being for 8 hours (1st), and 14 hours (2nd) indicate (via LED lights) that the companion is only charged for 60% (3 LED lights). This is rather frustrating, because it defeats the purpose of a power companion, wouldn't you agree?
Could you please advice on how to proceed to achieve the full charge on this device?
Your assistance is highly appreciated.

Yours faithfully
Prof Phil

A:Power Companion 12000mAh Charging Problems

That is odd, what does the battery status light indicate about the Power Companion? You should be using a Dell AC adapter when charging the power companion.
Diagnostic Indicators

When the Dell Portable Power Companion is over heated the 1st and the 2nd LED will flash interchangeably in amber and white color respectively.
When a wrong adapter is connected first LED will glow in solid amber, until wrong adapter is disconnected or correct adapter is used.

Checking Battery Health
Battery health can be identified by pressing and holding the power button on the Dell Portable Power Companion for five seconds.
Have you noticed the first and second LEDS flashing white or amber? Have you noticed the first LED glowing solid amber? After charging the Power Companion press and hold the power button for five seconds, how many LEDs light up?
Have you noticed any problems with the notebook itself when charging directly from the system AC adapter? No use diagnosing the Power Companion if there is a problem with the AC adapter / notebook.

I have a Gateway, model ID49C. I bought it new about 3 years ago but replaced its battery less than a year ago.

This phenomenon has been happening for more than a year: When I plug in my computer to charge, sometimes the front power light (orange when charging) and the light for the power button start flashing in unison and the computer stops receiving charge. It immediately stops when I unplug the computer. This only seems to happen when the computer is open -- I can still fully charge it overnight. Lately it's started to happen so often that my computer can barely charge at all from the number of times I have to unplug it.

Does anyone know what's going on, or where I could look to find more info? Thanks for your help!

My laptop was fine a few days ago but now when I plug it into the wall ac power the laptop will not turn on at all no noise. However when I plug the power cord in I do get a light for the battery charging,(yet to see if battery will take a full charge and come on) but so far nothing. Any ideas as to fixing this or why this could happen. can I get files from laptop harddrive to my pc? Remove laptop hard drive and connect to my pc? Thanks

A:No Ac Power or Battery power to Laptop

Sounds like a major failure in the laptop.

You can buy adapters for laptop HDD to Desktop IDE drives, quite cheaply. That will allow you to access the files on the hard drive.

USB cases are also quite reasonable for laptop hard drives and give an easy way to access the drive.

Do you mean you need to power it on by pressing such a power button, maybe located in elsewhere on your laptop?

I am trying to use just an older socket MB for the PCI slots to hold Gigabyte i-RAM cards Now the cards are only supposed to need or v power from the PCI bus They are not supposed to need any data from the MB cpu PCI bus etc I have a couple of these running in an old Socket computer that MB On times at Power to all I just boot to a DOS floppy as well as on an older Socket system The cards work fine as RAM disks Figuring this was fine I picked up another Socket MB without CPU Memory Hard Drive Video Card etc I installed an i-RAM card and plugged the ATX connector in I shorted the green line on the ATX connector to one of the Power On to MB at all times grounds The board lights Power On to MB at all times up fans run off of it and the i-RAM card shows it is charging and functional but the other computer I plug the SATA cable into from the i-RAM drive won t see the drive I know it s not the card because I swapped it in and out of the other full socket computer and it worked I had a similar problem trying to run these cards on a PCI passive backplane with power on Question is this - when I turn on a full-fledged computer does it route power or activate chipsets etc that just shorting the PSU does not What I can t figure out is that the i-RAM is drawing normal power according to its indicators Obviously with no CPU or RAM the MB is quot dumb quot but that is what I wanted - just a collection of powered PCI slots Any thoughts are appreciated nbsp

A:Power On to MB at all times

I imagine the the iRAM needs motherboard timing pulses, therefore you will need a fully functioning motherboard to host the iRAM

I hope someone here would helped me out in my problem I bought my Toshiba Portege M last I would always plugin the charger to my laptop when I am at work There this one time that when I turned on my laptop the battery was about Battery Charging Problems and Portege Power M900: to be empty like remaining I took my charger and plugged it Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging in After seconds it turned off without any warning or so I checked the lights in the laptop the quot Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging charging light quot is not ON despite that the charger was plugged in the socket I tried to use the charger to my other Toshiba Sattelite Laptop and it worked I tried to remove the battery of the Toshiba Portege M Laptop from its place and plugged again the charger but still it did not turned ON So I took my Toshiba Portege M to the nearest service center But surprisingly when I got there and related the problem to the technician the laptop turned on after it was plugged The technician said he couldn't see any problems because the laptop was charging and it turned on right But when I took it home whenever I remove the charger from the socket of the laptop it would turn off immediately without any warning eventhough that battery is charged And there were times even if I remove the battery from the laptop but still plug the charger in the laptop will still NOT TURN ON I tried to check the Toshiba PC Health Monitor but it would said that the battery is working good What do you think seems to be the problem Is it the battery or the power jack or the motherboard or the charger

A:Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging

> Is it the battery, or the power jack, or the motherboard or the charger

I don?t think its battery issue.
Why? Because the notebook does not power up even if the battery is removed but connected to AC adaptor.

_Power jack?_
Maybe. It could be possible that power jack or connection between the power jack and the motherboard isn?t ok.

_Motherboard?_
It could be an problem with power supply electronic which is part of the motherboard but once again; this is just an idea?

_Charger /AC adaptor?_
Hmm? you said that the AC adaptor has been tested with another notebook and it worked. So possibly it?s not AC adaptor issue.
But are you sure that the other notebook did not run at battery power?
Has the AC adaptor been tested properly? This is an open question.

Another idea:
What BIOS version do you have installed on M900?
Found an BIOS update for the Protege M900
+BIOS version 2.40 upgrade for Portege M900 and Satellite Pro U500( For PSU56*, PSU5C*, PSU5J*, PSU5Q*, PSU86*, PSU8G* and PSU53* ONLY)+
http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/support/drivers/details/30516

There you can find an detail about fixed issue:
+System may not power on without using AC Adapter after the battery has been detached and reattach again. This has been fixed.+

Please check if your Portege M900 is one of the mentioned models and check if an BIOS update is available for your unit.

Welcome to the 8forums.

The causes of the crashes are the Nvidia Video driver and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
I guess you already have the IRST driver up to date with the drivers from your manufacturer.

The jack will be under $30, while a mainboard is $200+, so try the jack first.  If that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard.
