I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I would like to know if the Z600 will support the 3.1 USB adapter card and if so, what do I need for an installation?
Agree.... that card should work in a Z600, but will it work to the USB 3.1 10Gbps speed standard? No. The HP Z600 workstation has no PCIe generation 3 slots. It has 3 PCIe Gen2 slots, 1 PCIe Gen1 slot, and 2 PCI slots. Below is a link to the HP page describing the Z600's slots: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01719695 Here is a note from StarTech regarding their card's speeds, emphasis added: "The maximum throughput of this card is limited by the bus interface. PCI Express Gen 1.0 max throughput is 2.5Gbps. PCI Express Gen 2.0 max throughput is 5Gbps. PCI Express Gen 3.0 max throughput is 10Gbps. The available bandwidth (10Gbps) is shared equally between the two ports." These USB 3.0/USB 3.1 PCIe cards generally need power supplementation.... the +5VDC they need does not come up from the slot, but it is easy to find a 4-wire "molex" peripheral-to-SATA power adapter which can provide you the higher wattage 5VDC they need to meet potential power draws (versus what USB 2.0 needs). All this info came from research figuring out how to add the Texas Instruments based HP USB 3.0 card to our xw6600 workstations, which have 2 PCIe Gen2 slots (the rest are Gen1). Z620 gives you some PCIe Gen3 slots.... slots 2,4 and 5. Here's the Z600 slots diagram:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Usb-3-1-adapter-in-a-Z600-workstation/td-p/5693335
Hi, Description explains it all, I've been thinking of replacing my current HDD for a SSD. I haven't done much researching on this myself but thought I would check here just encase there's any known issues/pit falls with installing a ssd into z600 workstation, I will be looking at adding a 1TB ssd. 1. Installing hardware? the z600 3.5 inch caddy wouldn't house an SSD, do HP sell brackets which will fit the z600 ? 2. Compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD which are best suited for z600 workstations? 3. Installing and set up? is it as straight forward as plugging in the SSD via SATA cable and installing the OS? Any Bios tweaks? Any info would be appreciated, Griff
Installed a Samsung Evo 500gb SATA III into my z600..and it works perfectly. Installed it last week and have been installing programs and having general use from it with no problems. I wanted to test it properly before posting a response. It could be possible that i experience issues with it later, but I would of thought that if it had any issues I would know about it by now. My SSD reads at 282 MB/s and writes at 270 MB/s - Random Read 51612 (IOPS) Random Write (IOPS) 47395. Being a SATA II gen workstation its not reaching the SSD's full potential at 540/520 Mb/s read write but from what I've read you wouldn't even notice the difference its so fast.. and I agree CC suite, mozilla, (haven't installed 3dsmax yet) all boot in seconds compared to minutes on old HDD. Just to note I didn't use a HP recovery disk to reinstall OS. I used an official windows 7 .iso and booted from USB (even though it some has some useful things, i didn't want HP bloatware) Drivers installed perfectly without a hitch. Windows serial on bottom of tower 1. Installing hardware? the z600 3.5 inch caddy wouldn't house an SSD, do HP sell brackets which will fit the z600 ?" Via Scott's comments, look for the 'needs-tool' version in the post's above, mine cost £8.50 and takes all of 5 seconds to fit the ssd to the z600. I wouldn't sugguest buying the tool-less version.. unless you have no hands and lots of money." 2. Compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD which are best suited for z600 workstations?"Yes they're HP approved SSDs detailed in the post's above, but I've had no issue with consumer grade SSD, but you roll the dice with which brand. The Samsung EVO 500gb, no problems. You can use SATA III ssd's but you can get issues as warned by HP as their firmware doesn't support some types (so basically if it doesn't work they wont help you) ". 3. Installing and set up? is it as straight forward as plugging in the SSD via SATA cable and installing the OS? Any Bios tweaks?"Make sure your BIOS is set to RAID+AHCI (Mine was already setup like this). I used the samsung magician tool after install and it will say that your PC is not set to AHCI, but i just ignore it. As long as BIO's and firmware are up to date you will be fine. Use a blindmate formfactor to install the ssd (see above posts). Make sure you get the latest firmware on a usb before you install SSD, it should be the first thing to check after installing the SSD. You don't need to change SATA cables from II to III as the cables are backwards compatible.. either way having a SATA III in a z600 will just limit you to SATA II speeds (which compared to a normal HDD are ridiculously quick). Just plug-in and install OS. It may be worth reading up on SSD optimistation, the samsung magician advises some things to do but not all neccessary, its either lifespan over performance.. defintely worth reading up on, if this is your first SSD as it was for me." Hands down best upgrade i've done to my workstation, and very simple to do. I'm glad I waited for better support and for the cost to go down on SSD's before using them. Want to say a big thanks to Scott Harrison for his help on this subject. I pestered him lots but have really appreciated his guidance! cheers Scott and anyone else who posted help. Enjoy your SSD, I will. Griffhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/installing-a-SSD-into-Z600-Workstation/td-p/5081717
We have a number of HP Z600 workstations that were upgraded with additional memory. After rebooting the system reports:207-Incompatible DIMMs detected slot CPU1 DIMM1203-Memory module failed self-test and the failing rank was disabled slot CPU1 DIMM1.The BIOS indicates DIMM1 as ERRDiagnostics show the memory module at the correct size and speed but its part number does not fully populate. When the DIMM is removed the system still reports the 203/207 error.I have tried to update the BIOS with the latest version, apply default setup and clear CMOS but the device still reports an error with DIMM1 (populated or unpopulated). Thank you in advance for any and all help provided, My father gave me a "Z600 workstation" that he is not going to use anymore(retired). I noticed that this unit can have a dual CPU setup. My question is if I can use this unit for gaming. Can I set up the rig with 2 CPU for better gaming performance? Hi, for some reason my system doesn't poweroff or restart after choosing "shutdown" or "restart" it just hangs at the "windows is shutting down..." screen, any ideas??
I sometimes forget to shut down my pc when it is in sleep mode. I heard there is a program called "poweroff" or something like that that you can put in a time for your pc to shut off. Is this a reliable program, and do you know the correct name.
I like to shut down my pc completely if I forget.
My buddy uses it for the Network he runs. Very large school district. It works pretty good.
Well my HP a320n is screwin up again...
The current problem is when i select shutdown from shutdown menu and click turn off in XP, it does so, but not all the way. Windows will unload and the monitor will go black, it may not be halting either. The computer does not power off. Everything stays on, i can still open the cdrom drive and everything. For the time i have been just having to hold down the power button for awhile and that will power it off. I want it to go back to the way it used to (fully shutdown). Don't know what made it do this but i'm sure someone here will know how to fix it.
Thanx in advance.
Shutdown but no Poweroff
Since I bought this computer every Shutdown had a Poweroff, till the last 2 days. If I push the button on the computer I get a Poweroff instead of a Shutdown, Poweroff. I had made 3 Partitions with Partition Magic. 98SE on the first, XP on the second, and misc on the third. It worked fine. It does Automaticaly go in to sleep mode. Shutdown, Poweroff works in 98SE, but not in XP. Even in Safe Mode. I installed the KB826939 update, then uninstalled, with no change. I added another User Account, which I use. Removed all users except Administrater, and it did not help. Put back one user as Administer. Opened Device Manager, and Clicked the plus next to Computer. It shows 2.
1- Advanced Configuration And Power Interface (ACPI) PC.
2- Standard PC.
I only have 1 Computer. This not fatal, but I liked it the other way.
My computer s been running fine for several months without me Poweroff shutdown after changing or Poweroff after shutdown even touching any piece of hardware except dusting off fans A few weeks ago I for Poweroff after shutdown some unknown reason still hadn t touched anything could no longer recover from standby Instead my computer apart from the flashing and later just plain green power indicator had shut completely off and I had to turn it on again instead of just retuning to the login screen as usual Note I hadn t toyed with the standby-button configuration either Okay I can live without standby but now the real problem Often not always after my comp s been shut down my mother board shuts off as well the light indicator turns off without me touching the I O button and the only way I can bring power back to it so I can turn on the comp is by flipping the I O switch x number of times It s on but it flashes a little but becomes stable once I hit the power button Again I haven t touched a single piece of hardware wire or anything so I have a really hard time seeing what could be causing this The only thing I can think of is a bugged power supply I ll appreciate any input Thank you nbsp
This is just my own observation and please don't run out and buy a new motherboard just on my ststement; but, my experience has been that, although it is sometimes the power supply, it seems to me to more often be a failing main board. But, before I replace a main board, I always run a test of individual components--hard disk, memory, etc.
You can get an inexpensive power supply tester at www.cyberguys.com.
The hard disk manufacturer usually has free testing tools available from their web site.
You can test memory with a free utility called MEMTEST86.
I'm using Windows XP in an embedded application. The power supply used does not support any control from the CPU or whatever.
That is why I need to desactivate the poweroff function when i shutdown the computer, and want to have the message 'it is safe to turn off your computer now'.
I tried to do some modifications (registry) like suggested on the web, but nothing worked until now. Do you have any suggestions??

disable the APM (Advanced Power Management) in the display properties / Screen Saver / Power / APM. One thing! On some computer hardware this will produce a blue screen. If it dose just re-enable it.
Hi all! Some days ago i changed the CPU of my M73p Tiny (originally with an i3) for a new one listed in the M73p specifictation as supported, an Intel Core i5-4570T. Everything goes perfect until the point where i want to poweroff the computer via O.S.: seems to poweroff the computer, and then simply power on again, before 2 or 3 seconds and theres no way to poweroff until you press for 4 o 5 seconds the power button in the computer. If i put the old one CPU, powers off perfectly.I tried to reset the bios to the factory defaults, and continue doing the same behaviour. Thanks in advance for your ideas!!!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M73p-Tiny-won-t-shutdown-poweroff/td-p/3288028

ok afew things to check .
1. is the four pin power conncector plugged in? that would be the one close to the CPU that intel based chipsets require.
2. are the Optical drives properly jumpered? one set to master and the other to slave?
3. are the hard drive's jumpered properly? ( in reality here I would say ditch one of the drives for now and go with one drive to install widows on. you can add th eother drive later.
4. since you listed the power supply with the case I am assuming it came with the case? those are usually garbage and it could potentially be the source of your problem.
5. in the bios set the bios to "fail safe defaults" or what ever the default setting is for the bios.
6. for now just ditch the floppy and yes it being incorrectly installed can casue boot problems. ( in fact I would do this first to see if it solves the problem)
I am using Numeric 600 VA UPS system for my pc (P4 2.4 Ghz proc., Mercury 845 Mother board, 80 GB IDE Hard disk, 1 GB DDR 1 RAM,DVD writer & 17" Monitor, Windows XP, SP2). Recently my UPS suddenly shut down or restarts immediately after power cut. It is 3 years old. what to do?
One year before I was used an external USB HD Maxtor 80 GB, then I archived it. Again for my needs I tried to use it now, But it gives a slight notching sound in it, my PC detects but can't open it. For test i used this in my friend's PC, it works normally, but again working with my PC is same as before. I suspected my PC and formatted it. After complete installation of OS & drivers, I checked again this Ext.HDD in my PC, but again same sound and not functioning. Please Help me.
Thanks & Regards,
So I rebooted the win7 workstation went to login to it normally with the users credentials and it acts like its a new user login everything is default all pst's, docs, favs, everything is gone . Hello , Maybe its a stupid question I recieved a Z600 desktop pc .2x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5606 4C 2.13 GHz, 80W, 8M cache,4.80 GT/s QPI, DDR3 1066MHzQuadro 4000And 8 gb ram I know i will not be able to run the latest games with those specs . But what if i would install for example 2x x5570 toghether with gpu gtx 750 or 760. Would i be able to play games like dark souls 3 , battlefield 4 , .... Is it still worth to put some little money in it , max 150euro ? Its just that i watched this video on youtube and he is able to play the witcher 3 ultra settings .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LfW366E9fw
That is still a great workstation, and you can upgrade it nicely. Read this entire thread, and be happy you have been gifted a "revision 1" motherboard that has higher capabilities than the original motherboard. Link is here. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/CPU-Upgrades/td-p/5... Google Z600 QuickSpecs, and the top one will be about version 7 but the next one will be about version 51. Those reflect the original versus revision 1 motherboard. The SSD I recommended in the above thread is the one to get. A fresh W7Pro64 is the way to go. You can upgrade processors, but if the Max TDP for the one(s) you want is over 95W then you need to make sure you have a "Perfomance" heatsink/fan over it. The search bar in this forum directs to this forum only. You'll need to spend some time. Note that you should only install a processor from the list in the QuickSpecs later versions to max out your performance, though you can use the older ones too. These are still new enough and in demand..... two fastest "revision 1" category processors will not be cheap even used off eBay.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z600/td-p/5590293

Bob, Correct Prefix of these processors is (x5650, x5660 and X5675) Model No Part No x5650 WG731AA x5660 WG732AA X5675 LB215AA I have also mentioned technical information below what these prefix's means, Letter Prefix:X = PerformanceE = Mainstream (rack mount)L = Power OptimizedW = Workstation for up to 2 processors per motherboard. The letters also refer to the power consumption figures of the CPUs in question. Note that the numbers associated with the letters are for the "Nehalem"-based Xeon family and older Xeons that use the letter designations have different TDP values associated with the letters. L = Thermal design power (expected power draw with a 100% CPU load running normal software) of 60 watts or less. These are the "low voltage" chips. E = TDP of 80 watts. Intel refers to the Xeon 5500/5600s with this letter prefix as the "basic" line and as a result, the idle power draw on these chips is frequently worse than any of the other series of chips, despite the other chips possibly having a higher full-load power draw. X = TDP of 95 watts. These are the "premium" mainstream chips as their TDP is not so excessive that they are difficult to cool in a rack server, yet their idle power consumption is far lower than the E-series chips. W = TDP of 130 watts and higher. These are the fastest, hottest Xeons made and they are designed to be used in workstations and pedestal servers with better cooling than an average 1U or 2U rack server. ========================================================Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.========================================================**Click the KUDOS star on the left to say 'Thanks'**http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z600-CPU-upgrade/td-p/5053635

I am working on a Z600 project right now, so this is timely. You will need to use the search box on this page upper left area, which searches this forum only. 1. First step is to see if you have an original motherboard or the later "revision 1" motherboard. Best way to tell is if you look up the boot block date in BIOS, under the first tab. The boot block date tells you if you have original or revision 1 most easily. 2. Assuming it is the better later motherboard, then you need to find the latest Z600 QuickSpecs.... its in the 50s, maybe 51 or 58. From that you can look at the HP supported processors. Your memory should be the faster 1333 type but most of those processors listed there run slower than that. 3 run at the faster speed which will let your memory run faster too. You can choose from those 3 for the best heavy lifting. Note that the fastest quad core is faster than the fastest hexacore. So, if you want raw speed I'd bet the quad core would serve you well. If you want 12 rather than 8 total cores then go with the fastest hexacore. I use the Noctua thermal paste. We have had good success with used processors off eBay for these types of workstation upgrades. 3. You'll want 2 processors, and you'll want to match to the heatsink/fan you already have. 4. I believe you don't need a "performance" heatsink for 95 watt processor.... the motherboard wants one for processors that are over 95 watts, from my reading. There is a way to spoof a motherboard into thinking it has a performance heatsink attached when it only is a mainstream, by the way. 5. SSDs.... I have been very pleased with the Intel 320 series 300GB SSD that you can get off eBay. We use a lot of those.... rock solid, and the Intel Toolbox is great for tuning it. That workstation is a SATA Gen II one, and HP warns against using SATA Gen III HDDs in those unless they are sourced from HP (assume special HP firmware applied). We have not seen a comment from HP on whether this rule holds also for SSDs, but I am assuming so. Hence, I choose to use that particular SSD, and also have used HP-sourced Gen III SSDs in our SATA Gen II workstations with zero problems. The Intel 320 series SSD is a SATA Gen II drive with enterprise features, and has served us very well. Even used off eBay they almost always have had 100% life left in them. I update their firmware as needed via the Intel Toolbox. 6. We use W7Pro64 mostly, but I have been pleased with the W10Pro64 OS. You can upgrade to W10Pro64 for free at this time, so I have been "W10 activating" all my xw and Z workstations and having that ready for the future, but still mainly running them with W7Pro64. Once your box is W10 activated you can install W10 anytime later. You certainly want a 64 bit OS. 7. You need a second processor to take advantage of the second set of 3 memory slots..... ideally you'll run with 6 x 1GB, 6 x 2GB, or 6 x 4GB. The sweet spot for $/GB is with the 2GB sticks. Having them all the same size gets you a speed benefit too.... Look at official HP sticks for that on eBay and you also can find the same codes from other vendors such as Dell. I consider the HP sticks the best because they have been "binned" for quality. 8. HP just came out with a new BIOS for the Z600. It is best to update BIOS from within BIOS. I have gathered best HP driver sets for W7Pro64 from later HP workstation sources and they load fine on the Z600, but for W10 I've been using what comes from the autoload from MS. 9. I like to add in a quality eSATA backplane adapter to the bottom opening for fast backup and Acronis image captures. I also like to add one of the TI-based HP USB3 cards into the top PCIe slot, and am working on a nice use of that ... I have just upgraded to windows 7 (from Vista) and now I can't print. I have a Lexmark Z600 and although I did have problems getting the driver loaded & working with Vista, it did finally work. After upgrading to windows 7, I reloaded the printer driver to no avail. I even deleted it and went out and found the latest driver available for my printer and still no help. Any ideas ?
I gave up trying with my X74 All-in-one in the end.
Lexmark website was very definite XP was last driver release.
I never had vista.
Bought Canon MP 250 All-in-One then from Argos at £34.99 which I am very happy with. Although I dont do an awful lot of printing.
And mostly convert colour web pages to print in Grayscale.
(to save on colour cartridges)
The printer is quite noisy at start of printing as it resets heads and loads a page of paper, but quiet enough during printing.
I have this product but after updating my computer to W7 ı have a problem with it. The original cd refers to Xp , 2000, 98 but now for W7 it says " it ' s not suitable for your system.

Hello guys,I bought a used hp z600 six month ago and it works perfectly so far. However, i realized that the blue led of the power button doesnt work and has never been on in my machine. I wonder if there are software or hardware solutions to make it work again ? Bios options or cable fiddling ? Hi,I would like to know if I can install a Geforce GTX 1080 in a z600 workstation? My power supply is 650W so that seems to be enough. I have 2 * 6 pin connector so I guess I can add an adapter to 8 pin. Would this work? Thanks.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z600-amp-Geforce-GTX-1080/td-p/5846991
Hey there! I got a later spec Z600 WS here that came with dual X5650 (TDP 95W).I made a good deal and got two X5680 (TDP 130W), and tryed to install those to the WS.System tells me, that the CPU installed needs too much power, and the System got halted. Is it a Problem with the Heatsink, because of the fact, it is to small (for TDP <95W), or is itrealy the mainboard, that just can't take the X5680 Xeons?I googled a lot and found some Z600 running on those CPUs, so what's the deal? I already tryed to bridge Pin 1 and 5 of the Heatsink-Fan Connector to simulate a Performance Heatsink, just to test if it would boot, but that did'nt work.
First, I don't see your new processor type listed in the latest QuickSpec for the Z600 I looked up this morning..... version 51, which lists your current X5650 but not the X5680. There is a hot X5647 listed (at 130W max TDP) but the other higher performance processors are all 95W. So, there must have been a 130W cooling option for the Z600, and I'd presume it is the same as used for the Z800 (see below). Also, the Z600 must be able to provide 130W to each of its two processor sockets. I checked with the Z800 QuickSpecs (v56) and don't see the X5680 listed there either. The latest QuickSpecs, however, often do not list all processors that were listed previously. The now-unlisted ones will still work, and you can go back through the HP QuickSpec archives for your Z600 to see if the X5680 was ever officially listed. If it was then it surely should work. A HP engineer I trust fully has let me know that there are some cases in which a processor that was never officially listed will work. Let's just say that will be a rare exception. Maybe you have found one of those processors? The X5680 processor has only one sSpec code, SLBV5, and can be bought new now from Intel for $1663.00 each. On eBay you can buy that processor today for about $200.00 each, USD, used. It is encouraging that you can get to the point of boot that the motherboard rejects your heatsink/fan combination, because my experience with truly non-listed processors is that they won't even get to that level. Flat zero progression into boot. So, I'd buy one of the "Performance" heatsink/fans from eBay, and the Alan guys there have almost 450 in stock at a fair price, new. That is a US source, and I have bought from them in the past many times, with never a problem. Buy one for about $50 and test with that and a single X5680 in place. The wiring trick..... that jumper wire should work if HP is using the same motherboard sensing method for detecting presence of a performance heatsink/fan as was used in the xw8600, but who knows? This performance boost is worth spending $50.00 more on at this stage of the game to get an official Performance heatsink/fan to experiment with. For example, perhaps HP added to the motherboard the ability to detect the larger 92x92x15mm heatsink fan rather than the regular heatsink's 80x80x15mm fan. Take a look at this link, for more details on the Performance heatsink/fan that I believe you need. Those have been available on eBay for a fair price, new and you can find that via searching for part numbers 463991-001 and 535588-001: Z800 Performance heatsink larger fan Here's a picture of the performance heatsink/larger fan for the Z800, and likely exactly what you need for your Z600 project. All my references indicate these are identical, but the Z400 performance fan is different. Note how this heatsink/fan is shifted leftward on its mounting plate, when viewed from front (the fan side). The Z400 performance heatsink/fan is not shifted leftwards because it is a single socket motherboard and has a fair amount of room around it on both right and left sides. Thus, the performance Z400 heatsink/fan will not fit on the primary socket of a Z600 but this one below will. The performance Z400 heatsink/fan will however fit on the secondary socket of a Z600 with a little bending down of its rear air deflector plate at its bottom. You can see pictures of that Z400 performance heatsink/fan elsewhere in the forum. I'd make sure you have the latest BIOS installed, and also confirm in BIOS that you have the latest revision of the motherboard by checking the boot block date. It sounds like you'll have already done all that. If one of those X5680 processors works then the other will ... The Z600 QuickSpecs indicates you can only have a single high end graphics card in the Z600. That is either one Quadro 4000 (142W) card or one Quadro 5000 (152W) card or one FirePro V7900 (<150W) card can be installed in the Z600. However, you can have two Quadro 2000 (62W) cards or two FirePro V5800 (74W) cards or two FirePro V5900 (<75W) cards in the system as this is supported (not that this will help with your graphics processing needs). The Z600 Maintenance and Services Guide also states you can have one 150W graphics card in either PCIe slot 2 or 4 (leaving the adjacent slot empty) OR you can have 2 75W graphics cards in PCIe slot 2 and 4. So SLI or crossfire is not a supported configuration with high end 3D cards due, in part to the 650W 80% efficient HP proprietary PSU used in the Z600 (which can't supply the needed power) and in part to the lack of system cooling validation for these more powerful 'heaters'. And as the HP PSU is a proprietary design, it is not a simple swap to an of the shelf standard ATX supply. Some cabling modifications would be needed and it still may not mechanically fit or work (as others have experienced no boot issues when attempting to use a modified standard ATX swap in their HP workstation - some have even damaged their system board so be warned). As for mixing cards in SLI configuration, IIRC, Nvidia allows mixing cards from the same family. So, presumably a Q4000 & Q5000 would work as would a GeForce 760 with a Titan, should the PSU have supported the load (which it doesn't). Mixing Q4000 with GeForce Titan in SLI configuration will fail as they would be considered a different family. And you can't use a Quadro driver with a GeForce card or a GeForce driver with Quadro card which creates a driver issue if you try such SLI mixes. So you may need to buy a more capable system (or do some development work to find a more powerful HP PSU you can fit into the Z600 or instead modify a standard ATX PSU to fit and resolve any issues this creates while also modifying the Z600 chassis cooling system to better cope with the extra heat). Good luck. [edited to add underlined text]http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/HP-Z600-graphic-card-upgrade/td-p/5054360
Ladies, gents, I recently got a refurbished Z600 workstation and immediately noticed that the chipset fan is always running at approx. 2,500 rpm, even right after a cold boot and when idling. I can't image that this is normal - all the temperatures are fine, so I see no reason for the fan to spin this high. I know that it is a small fan which needs the high rpm to create sufficient air flow, but 2,500 rpm seems excessive. Has anybody experienced this before? Is this in fact the normal idle speed for the chipset fan (as the seller's customer service wants to make me believe)?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Z600-Chipset-Fan-Always-Running-on-High-RPM/td-p/5592042
I have a problem during installation,
after windows copies setup files and right before the beginning of the installation wizard, a color test striped pattern (Red, Green, Blue, Gray) keeps blinking and the installation STOPS.
Any suggestions ?!
Where did you get the Ultimate install dvd from, sounds bad.
Just reboot, see if the install will finish.

I have a Z600 that came with an REV #003 motherboard and two X5670 CPU's. The board went bad and I replaced it with a REV #001, not realizing that it won't run X56xx chips. So I then purchased two X5570 CPU's and put them in. When I boot, I get a series of 8 beeps, and an error message that the BIOS is corrupt. So I created a BIOS recovery disc and flashed the machine as per the instructions. I then unplug the power cord (as opposed to powering down first), wait 5 seconds and plug it back in a power up. I then get the 8 beeps and the error message just like nothing has been done to fix it. Is it possible that trying to run X56xx chips on that board fried something? Is there a way to reset it? I am in need of a new system board for a Z600 but want to know which version would work with the 56xx series of Xeon dual processors? There's 460840-001, 460840-002 and 460840-003. The one that came with the machine was 460840-003 / REV AE, but it died so I got a replacement 460840-001 / REV 0D, however, I can't get the computer to post. So I'm looking for which board and Revision I need to make it work? Thanks. Would this one work?http://bit.ly/1omeMkF
The Z600 460840-003 supports both the 55xx and 56xx Xeon processors. As you discovered, the 460840-001 only supports the 55xx Xeons. I am not sure about the 460840-002, but there are other threads in this forum where some have tried the varioius -00x Z600 versions.
I am an HP Employee. My opinions are my own, and do not express those of HP.
In days of yore it was recommended to create a boot disk...just in case. I don't know whether this is still in practice with Windows XP. From what I can see online...it is. I am trying to help out a small law office who is planning to upgrade to xp. I'd planned to write instructions for them for creating their start-up disks. One question I was asked (and couldn't answer) was whether each workstation needed it's own, or if they could just create one boot disk on one workstation and keep it in the safe for all to use.
Does anyone know? Thanks!
if its the same win xp pro cd (same serial) then it should work with all of them. but it also wouldnt hurt to make discs for all of them.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/67030/should-an-xp-boot-disk-be-created-and-can-workstation-as-boot-workstation-b/
i am at my wits end trying to get an add-on to work to here it is really pissing me off how can i fix a non-working add-on and i have consistntly tried removing and re-installing the add-on and it still won't work and even it being enable in Internet Explorer it still won't work will somebody please give a me a tutorial on how to do this please and thank you
First you would need to name the add-on and where your getting it from,
ok so i am running an amd xp 3000+ with windows xp service pack 2
i have been having some problems
my pc is idle at 65 C
and my nivida card geforce fx 5200 128mb keeps crashing my pc
i went into safe mode...VERY FEW DRIVERS ARE LOADED
all of a sudden..the idle temp dropped to 35 C!!!
im thinking some hardware is causing the heat.
so i disable the graphics card and the idle temp drops from 65 C to 57C in normal mode!!!
so my graphics does contribute to the heat but not all of it
so now i downclocked my pc from its stock 2.2 ghtz to 1.1ghtz by lowering the fsb to 80mhtz
the idle temp became 40C
ok so its either my mermory that trying to run higher than the stock fsb speed of 166mhtz
or my fsb is overheating
how do u replace a fsb? do u just buy a new mobo?
what are your system specs? like PSU, mobo, processor (what core), etc.
have you tried using another program to read your temps and whatever. try Everest. get it here
I very much doubt that it is a problem with your fsb. have you got all the latest drivers for your hardware? it could be a problem with your bios version. a friend of mine had high temps (not like 60C but like 50C) he did a bios update and his temps are now in the high 20's... like 28C.
posting your specs will help determine the problem...
-Connecting through linksys wireless adapter via USB port. (WUSB54GS)
-Internet recognized through router, but cannot connect.
+Nvidia nForce networking controller (Local Area Connection) is stated to be "unplugged".
-Tried several USB ports
Basically I find the router, but cannot connect. Is the wireless adapter bad? This couldn't be a NIC issue b/c it's connecting through USB right? I doubt it's a MOBO issue.
Local Area Network will show unplugged if you do not have an ethernet cable going from your computer to another device.
You should be weary with what lingo you use. I just want to confirm at what point it does not work. Can you do the following:
Check your IP address by going to a command prompt (Windows key + R, type cmd and press enter). Type ipconfig /all and press enter. Note the IP address. If the IP address is an address other than 169.254.x.y, then you should be ok.
If your IP address is good, type ping www.google.com and note down the result. Next type ping 220.127.116.11 and note those. If you get responses, then you should be able to connect to the internet.
Note that if you have security enabled, ie WEP or WPA, your wireless adapter must be set with the correct information in able to go through the router.

It would seem you downgraded your comp to XP and they do not provide drivers fir it.
You will need to determine the specific chipsets on that mobo and Google for XP drivers for similar chipsets.
I know there is a way to see the log of any changes or installation through the command prompt, I think I read something like syslog or something. Anyone knows how to do this. I have an elderly neighbor who I help with computer problems and when I ask him if he downloaded something or install something, he does not remember.
can you do it without going into command prompt?
My other comp stopped booting yesterday and it seems to be showing me two problems though I suspect only one First I thought the power supply died because hitting the on-switch only produced a quick burst Something? Help Me Troubleshoot of power before immediately shutting down again To try booting it again requires pulling out the power cord and replacing it each time I tried my extra power supply on it and everything came on and stayed on but the monitor wouldn t click on and the hard disks just idle It s almost like they re not being prompted to do anything I tried switching back to the other supply and it decided to work again so i m not sure what the actual issue is The problem s started after I opened my comp Help Me Troubleshoot Something? to clean Help Me Troubleshoot Something? it out a bit I noticed a bunch of caked-on dust sitting on the cpu s heat sink and fan so I removed both to clean them off Is it possible that i damaged the processor when i was pinning the heat sink back down or something Could I have wiped out the bios somehow The OS is XP Home cpu is an Athlon XP I just recently added a mb ram stick but i doubt that it has anything to do with whats going on Thanks for reading and for any help anyone might be able to give me

Trying to get an idea on how you guys go about troubleshooting the following problem.
A new system, with LCD flat panel. Computer doesn't post. No beeps, and no video signal going to the monitor. Monitor powers on, as seen by the LED, but says NO VIDEO SIGNAL DETECTED. Fan on the video card spins, so I at least know its getting power. Multimeter shows correct voltage going to all necessary components. As far as I'm concerned, its either the motherboard, video card or monitor.
Now... I already solved the problem, but I solved it cause I had a secondary system to swap out parts. But, assuming you're on a job, and have no secondary system, and no spare video card or monitor for swapping, what approach would you take on this?
i cannot play videos in my firefox ..it is asking plug in and am unable to install it
I believe Windows XP has no plugins available since it is already has no more support since 2014. You will need to upgrade to a newer OS or maybe try google chrome, but cannot guarantee you that it may work.
I have a customer running XP who apparently was hit with malware. It was intercepted by the AV, but something went wrong. Now the system boots to the desktop, however almost all EXE files will not run - clicking an EXE produces an error where Windows asks what application is associated with the extension. There is no way to access the registry and F8 boot key options are disabled blocking access to SAFE mode and Hidden Admin account. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot. Task Manager runs but doesn't show an obvious malware process. All the usual malware load points, such as Startup folders and App Data folders for current user and All Users are clean. I've prepared the customer for a backup and complete reinstall, but if there's a way to get antimalware running on the system I'd like to try and check it. TIA
had the exact same problem with a machine recently, the fix on this page got everything working again
Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension
Hi I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron on a Windows XP operating system My problem just came Troubleshoot Audio out of nowhere There is something wrong with the audio output of my laptop whenever i use external speakers or headphones such as certain frequencies are not played So when I play a song some parts of the lyrics are muffled while others aren t I don t know if its a system configuration problem or a malfunction of the laptop itself I tried it on two different speakers and headphones and have the same results of the muffled sounds I also tried this with games thinking it might ve been my media player so I played Counter Strike Source and realize the gun sounds were different since they seem to be muffled greatly and knife and reload sounds are completely mute while Audio Troubleshoot other sounds such as walking remains normal Please help out I would greatly appreciate the time you guys put in for Audio Troubleshoot my problem Thank You nbsp
I am having a problem during bootup. When explorer.exe loads, it also opens search. If I attempt to click start, it only opens another search window. If I open firefox in taskmanager, It first opens up find, once i type words in find it will let me continue surfing. When I attempt to open sfc.exe/[ ] if i put an extension in the brackets, it says it cannot find it. sfc.exe works, but only flashes the command prompt briefly. Any ideas on how to fix my problem w/o a reinstall?
My computer sometimes (yes only sometimes) give strange noise, the noise is not constant and only lasts for a few seconds, but the noise doesn't sound usual. It doesn't happen very often, on average one time for a day, lasting for about 10 seconds. No particular operation is being done to the computer when such noise happens. I listen carefully to the computer but can't figure out where the noise is coming from.
The computer works fine now. Superficially everything is fine.
Is it a problem？
There is no way to tell from that information. Could it be your hard drive making that noise?http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/294654-how-troubleshoot-hardware.html
Running Win XP. Attempted to expand memory from 2gb to 4gb without success. Removed added memory, and when powered up, lost all audio. When I check sound, the graphic equalizer shows music is playing but nothing comes out the speakers (logitech z5500's).
Have you reinstalled your Audio Drivers?
There is actually a pretty good "audio" troubleshooter in the installed help files -- you should cover the bases there.
Assuming you have no problems in the Device Manager, that nothing is "muted" either for the main volume or ".wave" volume -- and that you CANNOT hear audio with a headphone plugged into the speaker out jack -
>> open the Control Panel Sounds > Audio properties and ensure that you in fact see your installed sound device as the "prefered" audio device there.
You might also wish to just try a "system restore" to a date when this worked. This usually resolves most problems that are not hardware failures.
System Restore's can be "undone" if not helpful.
Start > Run > msconfig > Launch System Restore.
I have bought a new PC and I have installed a Game which runs on Vista service pack 1, and I used to run it on windows 7.
I have Win8, 2TB hard drive, 16GB Ram, Graphics Card-Nvidia GeForce GTX660, GraphicCard Memory:1.5GB GDDR5. Motherboard: Intel Z87, with Beats Audio.
I am trying to run the game but it will not run. I have changed the compatibility to Windows Vista and it still does not run on Windows8.
Do I have too give up trying too play this old game now!
I would be very grateful if your expertise could find a remedy, thank-you.
Probably all you can do is try several compatibility settings--I would try 'let the system decide,' Vista SP1, Vista SP2, XP SP3, XP SP2, Windows 7 and Windows 7 SP1.
I have recently upgraded my workstation to windows 7 professional. Whenever I try to shut down or reboot I immediately get the BSOD. My systems admin guy said it looked like an IRQ issue but he hasn't had the time to look into it. I also noticed that occassionally when I turn of an external mixer that is connected via USB as my main sound card that it too will give me the BSOD. I don't know if they're related or not. How can I troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Hello This first time I have ever gotten a virus on my labtop since I've gotten it Ugh very fustrating also I'm the type of person whose a do it herself person plus I literally have no money to spend on professional help or Troubleshoot! OH, A Virus. NO! professional programs I've spend quite a bit of time trying to locate the problem myself and spent some time researching signs that Troubleshoot! A Virus. OH, NO! I should be looking for to identifying the type of virus Does knowing the type of a virus determine the type of protection I should use Anyway even with all my researching I barely skimmed the surface of figuring out how to get rid of this annoying menace of a virus however I'm glad to say that I have stumbled upon this website for tech support I say I can only go wrong not taking a risk and seeing if Troubleshoot! A Virus. OH, NO! I can get further help in my problem SOOO with that much said the problem The virus occured about Jan I thought that I had gotten rid of the virus once but within a few days it reinstalled itself and seemed to be worse i guess after talking to more and more ppl about it that its common Before the virus caused a series of pop ups saying such and such file is infected which turned out to be everything I tried to open Then after that quot warning quot I'd get another pop up sayin that my computer is unprotected and would pop an antivirus scanner and automatically starts to scan my computer As soon as it begins to scan another pop up will appear asking if i'd like to purchase an antivirus program and automatically sends me to a webpage of the program I tried to go to other sites after that but I couldn't That is the reoccuring problem I tried to open file such as debug or norton or program and controls to uninstall files that aren't need and with every attempt I'd be directed to the Antivirus scan that's what it was called I wanted to know a few things as well as advice Right now it seems as if the virus is gone I haven't seen a trace of it yet but this is the first day I'm trying again to get rid of it after turning my computer completely off for a week so I'm trying to search through my computer and ensure that its well rid of I thought it was gone once before and then it came back slightly worse than before with more pop ups than usual I have a hunch that it will come back slightly more worse than the second time How do you suppose I go about cleaning it First I found some virus scan programs off of others reply saying what can help and what can't help with scanning for viruses I'm a little effie on whether or not to use them because the internet is one big containation as far as I'm concern What I have Windows upgrade advisor Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Norton Sercuity Scan I also have another one that is on my usb the name I forgot because it was renamed to be hidden from viruses What types of scanning program are acceptable to download If there any other suggestion that I should try please let me know A problem is how to use the scanners I'm not sure that after removing quot so called threats quot that they are completely gone Each scanner says something different Majority votes that their is not problem at the moment I am not so sure Second I get warnings issued from my labtop's security saying that I have an unprotected computer I'm not sure how to check what programs are for security which are for scanning purpose only Or do they both work for the same cause I need advise on what programs are available for protecting my computer Are these security programs going to help me in the future with preventing another virus and is there any other kind of programs I should look for to installing on my laptop for further problems Thrid Whats a DDS and a root kit I was reading up on some of it but they were very vague on detail of explaining what it is exactly and what they do I've only found ways of getting to it I'm not much of computer person but I actually try a lot harder that most to be abl... I lost my windows 7 cd and i needed to format my pc so i got a windows7 from my friend which was only 1.5gb
After formatting with it ... i noticed that all features are dere except the troubleshoot.
In control panel its missing and if i type in start menu no results means its missing,
I think this feature has been removed to reduce the size of the Windows 7 DVD.
Telll me how can i get it ? Dont tell me to format again

You just formatted once, so it should be no issue to do it again, properly. Get yourself a real disc image and burn it to disc from the link I'll put at the end. Do a clean install using this real disc, and you'll be fine.

Your computer, or one that you've been asked to look at, has suddenly encountered something that is eating away at its RAM. The PC has good AV software, CCleaner ran regularly, and doesn't need to be defragged. Over time, this machine just keeps getting slower and slower, but nothing out of the ordinary is showing up in the Task Manager's list of processes.
What steps do you take to figure out what is affecting the PC?
i would try and see what changed , if its a new problem, but as you have listed this is getting slower and slower
I would run from the start>run > msconfig and l would check all the startups against pacs portal http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php website about halfway down are somefiles zip, exe which explains what the files are for
and remove all start ups I do not need or want
I would then look at temp files and remove them
Run Spybot - after updating
Run Ad-aware - after updating
Run my virus scanne avast - which is always uptodate
then if still a problem
I would post a HJT log and in the HJT log forum and ask a member to have a look and see if i have something nasty on the PC
I don't know what to do now and am about at wits end I have a fresh Win x install and was setting up my various software Many times I would all of a sudden get a quick scramble of the screen and it would shoot to the BSOD I was always able to reboot and get back in so I ALL to BSOD TROUBLESHOOT! - ME PLEASE At Nothing HELP assumed it was a bad display driver or something something else I was just going BSOD to Nothing At ALL - PLEASE HELP ME TROUBLESHOOT! to uninstall and reinstall soft and drivers until I got it right However the last BSOD seems to be my last Now when it reboots it simply goes through all of the BIOS stuff BSOD to Nothing At ALL - PLEASE HELP ME TROUBLESHOOT! but NEVER even attempts to load the OS It just stops at that stage - and hangs there No hard drive activity going on - NOTHING My RAID says it is healthy and fine in BIOS When I tab through the boot order it is there and set correctly The RAM counts up and looks fine I have no idea what it could be Did my Mobo go bad somehow Are my hard drives or one of them corrupt But if they were wouldn't I be told that in BIOS Is it my RAM Even though I was running the OS on and off for a few days and could it all go bad like that I have tried swapping out different sticks to see but the thing is I cant even put in my Win DVD and run the memory diag from the install cd I can get to the point to do it and it says quot you must restart to run the memory bla bla but when I reboot it doesn't go anywhere It doesn't load anything from the hard drive just gets to the quot push any button to load from cd quot I am totally clueless at this point and growing forever frustrated I hope someone can help me here
Hi and welcome!
Simple thing to do is attach the HDD to another system, see how it responds and if it can be read normally if you can get to Windows.
If the HDD is well, I'm sure we will have other possible troubleshooting steps for you to try.
If it's read well, get us the minidumps.
They will be at \Windows\Minidump (You might have to assign a drive letter first with disk management.)
Compress them with Winrar or zip them, attach to a post.
I go into the following screen and click on Get Started. I then choose the option to Keep My Files. I am then presented with Getting Things Ready. This Won't Take Long. Which is actually true, since I almost immediately get a screen saying There was a problem resetting your PC. There is no error code and the only option is to click on the word Close.
Did this PC come with Windows 10 or did you upgrade from a previous Operating system ? Are you having an issue is the reasons you want to reset the PC, if so what are they ?http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/44196-troubleshoot-reset-pc.html

If you are comfortable going inside the case, that's what you are going to need to do. But of course first make sure that your monitor cable is firmly attached to your video adapter plug. If you have a video card try taking it out and reseating it. Do the same with your RAM. After that it's a matter of trying to determine what needs replacing. If you can try another monitor and video card (if there is one).

"can not see it" means what?
All new hard drives have to be partitioned and formatted.
I've updated Quick Time (ver. 7.1.5), and successfully installed the latest Java Runtime Environment.(JRE 1.5.0_11), IE 6, FX 18.104.22.168

I can play the movie demos in Safe mode in both IE and FX. It's not the firewall because I disengaged it in Normal operating system mode and I still couldn't run the video demo.
I need help troubleshooting a blue screen crash problem on my HP a819n desktop. It is running Windows XP SP 3. I understand this type of problem is often associated with some recently installed hardware or software. I have not installed any hardware or software in months on this machine. I have run checks on the two internal hard drives which have tested good. I have disconnected both the scanner and the printer which are connected to this computer but the problem persists. I am attaching an image of the screen that is displayed and would be happy to furnish any further information about the computer that you think might be helpful.
Please read all of the following instructions found here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

My right click button seems to have eventually stopped working over the last two days. It started not working some of the time and now, it seems to do nothing. The left click is fine, so I can still select and highlight, but I am not getting any popup with options like cut and paste, when I right click. Any ideas? I took the battery out and had a look inside and when I press both buttons, I can see a light reaction on the inside where the buttons would press.

If this then works, turn back off and put the other Ram card in
Its just that I've seen Ram cause stranger things
i have 3 computers in my house. they are connected via router. two computers can see the third one, but they can't see each other.
the work group has a unique name on all 3 computers.
when i go to start->run-> name of the 2nd computer, it says: ..is not accessible.etc. logion failure etc.
when i do that on the 2nd computer and type the name of my computer, it sees it. but it still doesn't show it in 'view workgroup computers'.
the windows firewall is off on the 2nd computer, i use zone alarm but i shut it down, and still nothing.
can anyone help, please?
Hopefully someone in the community has had some experience using Microsoft Publisher (2003)and can help me sort out the following problem.
Recently redesigned my website and now a number of visitors can't see the navigation bar on the home page. Thought I could fix the situation by adding a second navigation bar at the bottom of the page but they still can't see it. They are, however, able to get to at least one other page by clicking on a separate hyperlinked icon on the page.
Any thoughts on what's causing this and how to fix it ? Would appreciate the feedback.
I suggest to have a look at this link and apparent fix from here microsoft's site.
I have a particularly annoying problem that I was hoping someone could shed some light on?
I have a Windows 7 Dell E6400 laptop on a corporate domain. One of the user accounts (with local admin rights) will be able to access and use all of the troubleshooting tools on the first login when the profile is inititally created. However on the 2nd login he receives the unable to use troubleshooting error 0x80091007. Some troubleshooters work but the majority do not.
There are other accounts with local admin rights that do not have any problems whatsoever and he is the only one experiencing this issue. I'm assuming its down to a group policy coming in from somewhere or something else relating to his profile but hoping someone may be able to shed some more light?
Thanks in advance
Maybe this post here can help you out.

Hi I m hoping someone can help me with a problem I have a HTPC I built about weeks ago The components I used are as follows Case ThermalTake Mozart SX with VFD case fans replaced with X Noctua mm PSU Corsair w CPU Intel E CPU Fan Scythe Shrunken MoBo Gigabyte EP -DS RAM GB Rambo GPU ASUS HD HDD TB Samsung Spinpoint F ODD LG HD-DVD Blu Ray combo O S Vista Premium I brought the various components from various suppliers and built the PC myself I d replaced GPU s RAM and PSU s before but this was my first full build All went well and I did a bit of testing checking after I d finished bios showed the CPU temperature at around c c after an hour or more usage and Catalyst showed the HD at around c after light usage both of which I figured were acceptable for a cramped little case Over the past three weeks I d been using it on and off mainly setting up Vista and my me troubleshoot Can help HTPC someone my other programs and configuring a couple of external TV cards I had done some light gaming on it too maybe an hour to an hour and a half at a time on a couple of occasions However this Friday evening I turned it on to do some gaming and played Fifa for maybe an hour and a half to two hours when the screen turned into a pixelated green frozen mess and the computer stopped responding I turned the computer off and left it for a few seconds before putting it back on Can someone help me troubleshoot my HTPC there was no signal to the monitor and there were a couple of error beeps from the mobo I since checked and they re to indicate a graphics issue So my assumption was that my graphics card had bitten the big one however the next day I took the card out and swapped it with a Radeon HD I have in my desktop PC The HD worked fine in my desktop and has been used Can someone help me troubleshoot my HTPC and gamed on a few times over the weekend and is still running fine the HD Can someone help me troubleshoot my HTPC then also appeared to be working fine in the HTPC Confused I swapped them back again and again the HTPC with the HD just black screens and beeps at me The only thing I could think of that was different between the two cards is that the HD needs a pin PCI-e power plug directly from the PSU whereas the HD doesn t So I m thinking well maybe it s the PSU I noticed that when I first built the HTPC I forgot to plug in that pin power cable and that as a result the motherboard beeped continuously at me and there was a message on the screen informing me of what a fool I d been So I unplugged the power from the HD and tried again with the HTPC but I still got the same black screen and just a couple of beeps Now my theorising may be wrong here as I m not too sure what to make of that result but I thought that the issue probably isn t a power one and must be the motherboard or the riser card my HTPC case uses a right angled riser card so that the graphics card lays parallel to the motherboard But I d still got the problem that the HD seemed to work fine in the HTPC so I left the HD in the study desktop put the HD into the HTPC and went and plugged it back in to my TV Powered it on all looking fine up comes the vista logo the loading screen then black nothing but black Power off wait restart I m told windows shut down unexpectedly and given the usual safe start options and I chose to try again normally same problem of the black screen after loading So another restart this time load into safe mode and finally I m in So now I m concluding it must be a driver Vista issue Over the course of the day I try turning off various services start-up apps and running in diagnostic mode none of which will let me in to Vista normally but I m always able to get into safe mode I did however start on a few occasions get into normal Vista they were after I did the following Ran the repair option from the Vista disk this then let me in then updated drivers wanted to restart then wouldn t let me back in again Disabled the Display Adaptors uninstalled the display d... Hello, I'm trying to troubleshoot this PC so I don't have to lose time / money trying unnecessary things. Hopefully someone here can help me.
First: ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD Athlon XP 2100+
A week ago, my computer shut down and wouldn't power up anymore. I opened the case, fans wouldn't spin at all, the MB led did lit up. So I bought a new power supply, generic one (desc. from the site: 450W ALIMENT ATX ALPHA RAIDMAX) installed it ; the fan spins as soon as the PC is plugged - no power up needed... but the drives don't start, no lights, no startup beep and no MB led anymore.
So does that mean the MB died too? or could it be something else I overlooked?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I just installed a new PCI modem http://www.aopen.com/products/modem/fm56pm.htm because my old modem was a ISA and it was giving me a error everytime I tried dialing to my phone using Outlook address book
"An Internal error occurred in the automatic phone dialer. Close the dial phone dial box, and then open it again."
Well now my new modem is giving me the same error
What can I do to fix this so Outlook can dial a number from my address book to the phone that is connected to the modem?
I got it !! The thing was that the Line Properties menu in Outlook was showing me only two options and I couldn't see the 3 choice on the menu because I had to scroll to see the modem, so now I chose modem and is working
But I haven't figuered out yet how to stop from adding a digit 1 before the 905 area code, when I try to call I hear a message saying: "The number you have dial is not a long distance call, do not dial the digit 1 before the number you are calling" and in the other hand since I entered 416 as my area code under the Phone and Modem Options/Dialing Rules, when it dials a 416 number it doesn't dial the area code so I hear a message saying: "We are sorry the call can not be complete as dial, please check the number and dial again"
I have a thing with my hp where with Windows 7 I get a freeze and then when I do reboot from the machine I get nothing but a black screen with a blink in the upper left hand corner don't have a clue what to do? My tapping the f 8 key does not get me anywhere, my recovery cd is not recognized,....it just sits there,....please help poor me,...
How old is this PC? If it is still under warranty, that may be your best bet.
If not under warranty, you may have a friend check your recovery disks to see if they are bootable (sometimes they are incorrectly burned). If not, you may have to order a new recovery set.
If they are bootable, you may try replacing the optical drive with a loaner or an external and see it if boots.
Also, check the Hard Drive in the BIOS. Make sure it is being detected. Also check all cables on the inside to make sure they are secured, and check your CPU fan/heatsink to make sure it is properly mounted.
Be careful inside your PC though! Don't open it on carpet, and touch the case before you touch any parts to ground yourself. If not, you could perma-fry internal components.
A dvd burner was recently installed in my computer and everything was working fine but now four months later I can only burn cds but not dvds. I can watch dvds however but when I try to burn dvds the drive ejects and asks for a blank dvd even though one is already in the tray. I am confused and not sure what to do. Please help.
What you are saying is normal operation
When the DVD (inserted or not) is ready to be burnt, your DVD tray will open asking for the disc. You can then put in the disc (even the same one that was already in there originally)
This is just the default normal operation of the program that you are using

I can't be sure but you might have two audio devices on your system "competing" with each other.
Does your new motherboard have an onboard sound card? If so, did you disable it in your BIOS before installing your cheap soundcard for testing? And what about your good soundcard? Did you disable or uninstall it or is it still in Device Manager? I would check your listed Devices first to see if there's a reported problem.
After that, and if everything looks OK, check your audio settings in Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices. Open up the Volume Control and put it on your Task Bar. Right-click the "Volume" button on the task bar to "Open Volume Control". Check that nothing you're trying to use is muted (turned off), and that the volume level sliders are set appropriately. It could be something as simple as that.
So, please go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and check for faulty device drivers (the ones with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark in them). If you see any, at least "disable" them or preferably, "uninstall" them.
Physically remove your added soundcard. Reboot your computer and check your BIOS again, in case your motherboard has a soundcard. If it does, stick with it for the moment, save your BIOS settings and exit back to Windows. Check your Device Manager again. If it's looking good, re-test your volume control settings.
If things are working properly now, the problem is solved. At this point, you can restart your computer, go into BIOS and disable the onboard soundcard, (if you have one). Then turn off your computer, insert the soundcard you want to use, and go back into Windows. Install your soundcard and hopefully, all should be well.
Sounds good to me (pardon the pun).
I'm trying to figure this thing out. What does it mean when the wizard completely installs a program on one computer, but does not seem to work on another. The wizard will freeze when it asks for the 2nd CD of the program. Same program installed , and played fine on another computer. Is it the install software? It couldn't be the game could it?, could it be my computer? 2.39ghz,celeron d VS> the computer that the program works on 2.53ghz, same RAM, and celeron d.Thank you so Much
does the troublesome computer have all its updates
and have you checked it out for spy/virus infections?
run msconfig from the command prompt on both computers and compare.
