How do I unlock my Windows 725 Lumia without a factory reset?

Q: How do I unlock my Windows 725 Lumia without a factory reset?

I have forgotten my password to my Lumia and I refuse to hard reset. I do not have any back ups and my Windows phone is not in my devices. I cannot do this now as my phone is locked. Is there a way or shall I just not use my phone and/or wait for otherwise necessary update?

Preferred Solution: How do I unlock my Windows 725 Lumia without a factory reset?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 Core) and i am trying to factory reset to the default settings again because of the stupid problems i am having on the tablet.
Here is the problem i am trying to get into the BIOS which is the 1 step on the Acer website but for some bizarre reason when it is completely off i press the Windows button and the power button to get in to the BIOS as it says on the Acer Website but it keeps going to the start menu/desktop now instead of going to the BIOS. :/
I have factory reset/hard reset on my Acer Iconia W700 a couple times and i never had this problem before, i gone in to the BIOS no problem!!!

You will have to reset your phone and loose whatever data is not backed up.
Power off. Hold Volume Down and tap Power. When the exclamation screen (!) appears release Volume Down.
Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Up...
The spinning gears will show and your phone will reset.
Unless you remember the password it is all you can do.

I just tried reverting to an earlier version of windows 10 mobile, and it failed halfway through. Now my phone boots to this square icon thing and does nothing. When I hold down the power button as per the reset instructions, the phone takes about 20 seconds to turn off. It reboots to the square icon. The instructions then say to hold down the volume down button, but after 2 minutes it has not responded.
Is there a way to force it to reset without having to have a working operating system on it? How do I force it to install windows 8.1 again?

Is there a way to force it to reset without having to have a working operating system on it? How do I force it to install windows 8.1 again? There's the hard reset key sequence:
1 - unplug phone
2 - hold vol up and simultaneously plug charger
3 - keep holding until a ! mark appears
4 - leave button and follw the sequence one key once:
vol up, vol down, power, vol down
5 - gears should appear, you phone should replace last downlaoded build
If doens't work, plug your phone to a pc and use WDRT.
holding power button is soft reset, and is useless now. For all the rest, keep in touch and join forum, we can help you

Hello, I have an older (2007 ish) ASUS laptop that has Windows 7 installed.  It is rarely used so I'm not in the market for a new laptop, but it is running extremely slow.  Will not download updates, etc.  There is some sort of conflict.
I'd like to wipe the whole thing clean but here's my dilemma.  Windows Office is installed but I don't have the installation CD's.  If I do a factory reset, is there any bare-bones types of word available for download?
Really Word (and IE/Firefox) are all the laptop is used for, so I didn't know if there was some bare bones "light" version of Word out there.  Alternatively, is there anything I can download from the laptop now and reinstall after the refresh?
I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new version of Office.

A:Windows 7 and Factory Reset

What version of Office are you running? There are no bare-bones versions of Word unless you are talking about free programs that can open Office Documents. There are number of those including Kingsoft, Open Office, and Softmaker's Free Office.

So I installed Windows 8 whenever it came out and then updated to 8.1 last fall. Since then my computer has become bogged down and running really bad. It's time just start fresh but when I go in to the PC settings to restore it, it says I don't have the necessary files and that I need to insert a disc. Since I installed 8.1 from the store I have no disc to restore it from.

I saw some tutorials on activating 8.1 from 8 but I don't even know if I'm following the right ones or not. I'm not sure what I'm doing. This was much easier to do in Windows 7. But anyways, I would really appreciate any help on overcoming this so I can restore my computer.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD. (Windows 8 only)
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8

I bought my Pavillion in 2014 and of course it came with Windows 8.1. I've upgraded it to windows 10 for about a year. I'm still a student and I want to use purley for school work. Problem is I have lots of junk on it like games that I no longer need. I thought of a lot of things to speed it up as it is painfully slow such as an SSD upgrade, but that is a bit pricey. The only thing I could think of is reset it so it doesn't have loads of rubbish running in the backround becuase the disk is always running at 100% usage (even at idle). So I was thinking, if i reset it to factory settings, will it keep windows 10 on it or will it degrade back to windows 8.1? Many thanks

A:Need to know how to do a factory reset in windows 7?

It's doable through tutorials on this site IF your PC has the capability. Some do, some don't.

But a few questions:

Have you made one or more "recovery" discs, by burning to a CD or DVD?

If you have not made recovery disks, your PC may or may not have a recovery partition that will allow you to restore to the state in which the PC left the factory.

Are you familiar with Windows Disk Management?

Does your PC have a sticker on it with a 25 character "Product Key"? If it does, you should be able to do a fresh install of Windows that you may prefer to a "factory reset", depending on your preferences. Many people don't like the configuration from the factory and would prefer a custom setup. Maybe you would. Maybe not.

A:Factory Restore V Factory Reset V System Recovery

Factory Restore is to the state it was when you first got it.
You will then need to run 4 years worth of Windows Updates bit by bit - don't be tempted to allow Windows to update them all in one go. Choose them in block of say 10, chronologically, restarting the system carefully each time.

it is still not working. I tried three differents things

1. I went to settings, change PC settings, general then remove everything and reinstall windows but I had the following error message "Insert media, some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files".

2. After booting my usb key with the installation files, I restarted my computer then I went to "Troubleshoot"
then "Reset your PC" and I had the following error message "Insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue". So failure

3. The last thing I found do not do a factory reset, but ask me where to build the OS between 8 different partition. (I have Debian, Ubuntu (which doesn't work) and windows 8 and one "shared file" between Debian and windows8

A:Factory reset of lenovo g40-30 windows 8

Hi assybertran ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Usual for the G40-30 model to either have a single HDD or a hybrid SSHD that holds with 8GB NAND flash memory . Physical harddrive may hold multiple drive declared as partitions.
Onekey recovery feature is a full factory reset that would be able to clear and delete everything out and restore the image the way it was when receive from out of the box which is ideal to having a fresh start for users as it deletes possibilities of infecting one drive from the others.
Data back up is definitely recommended on a different storage
To check both for availability and integrity  running diagnostics would help.  Going to the BIOS on the same Novo menu would also show physical drives available on the unit.
About the mentioned partitions , disk management would show it. Note that OKR is a hidden partition on the harddrive (highlighted links for further reference and details) .
Take time to review the procedure and back up everything needed. Run appropriate diagnostics before deciding.

Hi everyone reset and Asus factory Windows 8.1 I recently purchased an Asus G JM RoG laptop and was concerned with some of the issues I've been reading about the factory reset procedure on the newer models On the older models I've had to factory reset it was as easy as pressing F on boot and selecting to reset the laptop to factory settings no boot disc USB or Windows CD key was required these computers ran on Windows My computer came with Windows factory installed and I had some questions regarding factory reseting this laptop in case it's required in the Windows 8.1 and Asus factory reset future Can I still press F while booting and factory reset this computer without needing any sort of recovery CD or my Windows CD key as with past models Another question regarding the new quot refresh quot and quot reset quot options built into Windows and is the reset basically the same thing as the Asus Factory reset on the older models or is it a different method It seems that on almost all the guides I've looked at people are having issues with needing a recovery CD and their CD key is there a difference in the two options Does the windows reset still work off the Asus Recovery Partition or if the need arises should I boot into F Thanks for the help everyone

Refresh or reset is covered in this tutorial.

Refresh or Reset Windows 8 without Installation Disk

You should create a Recovery Drive

Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8

Always backup your data on a regular basis.

You may also create a disk image or your entire computer using something like Mascrium Reflect (Free). If anything happens to the drive, you could restore the image to your computer.

I read the sticky on Factory Reset which is very interesting.
As I have had a lot of problems with my old Vista machine lately I was
wondering about Factory Reset or Windows Reinstall.
I have the Recovery Disc that came with the machine 8 years ago.
As a novice I would very much appreciate member views on this topic.

A:Factory Reset or Windows Reinstall.

What is the make and model # of your computer?
Be sure to backup all personal files you want to keep to a USB HDD first.
Your computer probably has a Recovery Partition which you would access pressing a certain key at bootup. For many manufacturers that is the F11 key depending on make.
Or boot up off of your Recovery CD. Either option will wipe all personal files and installed programs and set the computer back to Factory Defaults like it came in the box. If neither of those options work, and you have a retail copy of Vista or Windows 7 disc you can boot from that disc and do a Clean install.

So I'm trying to factory reset my laptop to no avail. I am trying to do it through windows PC settings but the app will not open and instead, it gives me an error. I have uploaded the screenshot with the error. I'm unsure if its malware or something but I really want to reset everything.

My internet has been super slow and we already had a tech guy come in from my ISP which they found something but are unsure if its what's causing my incredibly slow speed. I'd rather just try and figure out if its something in my computer (I've tried running a few things that takes a long time to download but they had not detected anything).

A:how can I get windows 8 back after a factory reset?

I dont believe you can undo a reset/refresh unless you made an image of wiin8 at some point when it was running..

You may have to reinstall that downloaded version.

Which reminds me Im going to do one today! I have my win8 setup very nice, I dont want to have to re-do it...

I had been having problems with my work PC for months Very slow boot up lagging during use programs not responding reset even not - boot Windows after factory will etc Then worse issues started like the system restore not saving any restore points not allowing me to manually create restore points I tried all the normal stuff Sfc Scan came up clean Check disk came up Windows will not boot - even after factory reset clean AVG and Malwarebytes scans Windows will not boot - even after factory reset were clean It seemed like the longer I left it Windows will not boot - even after factory reset on the better it ran but anytime it restarted it got terrible again Then about a week ago I tried to do another Check Disk I scheduled it and restarted the PC as I was leaving for the day When I got in the next morning I checked the event log and no Check disk was on there So I tried it again that day and the same thing happened Then yesterday it all blew up I was on my PC it was mostly running ok except for skype which would not properly connect Since I need that program working to do my job I restarted the PC It would let me enter my password but then was stuck on the Welcome screen for about minutes So I powered down and tried to boot into safe mode and it did the same thing stuck on the welcome screen So I powered down again and went into start up repair Startup repair failed I used a command prompt to run check disk on C and it only took about seconds which I found odd but it said it came up clean I also did it on DBackup and it also took about seconds and came up clean Then I did it on EOS and it was going extremely slow Even the first verification stage it was average minutes to scan each file At this point I had just left it there to work on itself while I did other things in the office and when I came back to the PC it had just powered itself down I dont know if it ever finished the scan So at this point I couldn't waste any more time on this and all my files and programs were backed up externally so I just did a factory reset Which seemed to work Yesterday afternoon everything was running smoothly and quickly This morning I come in and try to log in - once again frozen on the welcome screen After about minutes I tried to reboot and was forced back into the startup repair Where can I possibly go from here If a fresh install didn't work then what will

Going to say right off that I have very little knowledge on computers so I probably won't understand any complex solutions Hopefully it Reset 7 Factory Install Windows Cannot After won't Windows 7 Cannot Install After Factory Reset have to come to that My mom factory reset her computer as a last Windows 7 Cannot Install After Factory Reset resort after we couldn't fix the multitude of problems it had but after the reset completed Windows refused to install back onto the system Originally we had been getting a message that Windows was not compatible with her laptop which is store bought Acer not custom-built However prior to the reset we had been running Windows just fine This message which included an error code only showed up one time and we haven't been able to get the error code since unfortunately I never wrote it down Now when we try to start it it says quot setup is starting services quot That operation fails and we get a pop-up that says quot Windows could not complete the installation To install Windows on this computer restart the installation quot Clicking OK just makes the same message pop-up again and no matter how many times we restart the installation we just return back to this The only solution I've seen suggested in my research of the problem is to try reinstalling Windows via the OS installation disc However to my knowledge we have never had a disc to do this with so that isn't an option for us Are there other solutions My mom's schooling depends on having a working computer so we're understandably freaking out Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,

Then after that I would just go ahead and prepare for the worst case and buy win-7 again from either Newegg or Amazon
If you know which bit 32 or 64 and 7 Home Premium or 7 Pro you had before ?
If not post the SNID and brand computer and we might be able to look it up on the manufactures website for you,
The SNID is a tag on usually the bottom of a laptop and or on the side of a desktop that also has the windows activation key on it = We do not need the Key just the SNID # it will tell everything about the machine you bought.

unfortunately; this sounds to me like something may have corrupted the boot manager when you tried to downgrade to windows 7. Did this machine come with Vista installed and then you installed Windows 7?
If so then the Factory Recover to Vista was wiped out.

So, you will need to get a Vista recover CD from the OEM of the computer OR use the Windows 7 DVD that you upgraded with.

Upon my intense dissatisfaction with windows 10, I decided to switch to linux, and I therefore created another partition on my hard drive and installed linux on it. Things were fine for a while, I was using linux fulltime, and despite windows 10 still being on my laptop, I never booted into it. This remained the case for around 2-3 weeks, before I decided to switch back to Windows 10.

However, upon attempting to boot into windows 10, the bootscreen came up, but it just stayed there forever, without booting, so I held the power button to get out of it.

I therefore used a system recovery disk that I made a few months ago when windows 10 was still working to get into the recovery options (I can't access them from the OS itself because I can't get into the OS in the first place.)

I went into Troubleshoot and attempted a full system reset, which I hoped would also remove Linux and in general fix all of the problems. However, the reset failed, and I had no clue why it had done so, and so I attempted a startup repair. It searched for faults and before long was displaying the message "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." with the Toshiba logo above it (brand of my laptop). This made me suspect that there may be some kind of hard drive fault. It was running for a few hours before I stopped it by pressing the power button, because I really did not think it was doing anything.

I can't go back to a previous build of windows 10, because it's been a very long time since I did any major updates on there, and I can't do a system restore or system image recovery, because I have no system image from the past.

So, yeah, a tad bit of a pickle. Can anyone please provide assistance?

Hi Adam and welcome to Tenforums.
So, is your data backed up, and you're able to perform a clean install?
You can download the current W10 install media and wipe the hard drive and reinstall from scratch. Because W10 was on there before (and activated, I assume) you will not need to enter a key if asked, and it should activate once it's installed and online.

Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

I would choose the custom install, and delete all partitions, so you install to a completely unallocated drive.

If you think the drive needs CHKDSK run on it, you could boot to Kyhi's rescue media and run CHKDSK from there before doing the clean install.

A:How to factory reset without losing windows 10?

Hi, factory reset = have the PC restored to the state it was in when you bought it (as far as what's on the disk is concerned!).

If you bought it with Win 7, it will revert to Win 7, assuming you still have the relevant partition on your disk. Everything else on the disk will be lost. Repeat, everything.

You may wish to consider an in-place repair install which allows you to keep everything, and completely refreshes Windows.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

Alternatively, you can clean install Win 10, and it will automatically register since you have it installed already. That will only affect the partition on which you have Win 10 installed, but you will lose all programs installed and all settings you have configured, and you will lose all personal data on that partition.

Hope that helps.

A:Windows 7 Factory reset problem

How are you doing the system restore. Is it from a partition on the Hard Drive or through a set of recovery disks. If you are doing it from the hard drive and the drive was going bad this could have caused the problem. Also if a shop reinstalled the operating system they may not have put the recovery partition on the drive. In this case you would need recovery discs. If you do not have them, they can be ordered through the manufacturer.

I have an msi laptop with windows 7. I have been experiencing some issues with it. Last night I tried to do a factory reset. The one where you press F3 during startup. Everything seemed like it was going great. The progress bar was moving along. It got all the way to the end and nothing happened. I left it alone overnight hoping it was just slow. This morning it's still displaying the progress bar and the elapsed time is still ticking away. Nothing has changed. I don't know what to do! To add to my sense of panic, there is a note on the top of the screen clearly stating to not touch any key while the reset is happening. Clearly the computer is trying to mess with my mind on purpose.

A:Windows 7 factory reset is stuck

A factory reset should never take more than a couple of hours if that. Obviously something is wrong. If you were having issues before the reset the failure could be due to a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive. You will need to stop the reset.
Do you have access to another computer? If  you do then download UBCD and burn the iso to a CD on a Windows 7 or later computer by right clicking the iso file and selecting Burn Disk Image. Boot UBCD and at the menu screen select HDD > Diagnosis. Scroll down to Seatools for Dos and do the short/long tests. If Seatools for DOS does not detect your drive then at the UBCD menu screen select Parted Magic. At the Parted Magic desktop select Disk Health. It could be called GsmartControl. Run the short and long tests. If they pass boot UBCD again and use Memtest86+ to run a memory test. Let it run for at least 6 passes and preferably overnight.

@Maetrix?, welcome to the forum. I don't know why MS is telling you to come to HP.  The Product Key for Win 8 is embedded in the BIOS at the request of MS.  HP does not have the ability to Activate any OS.  Changing the video card shouldn't have anything to do with the problem.  However, who knows what the activation software take into consideration.  I suggest contacting MS again to see if you get a Customer Rep who will help you. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

A:Cannot Reset my Windows 8.1 Computer to Factory Settings

Hello, and Welcome
The problem is when a person updates 8 to 8.1 through the store, you lose the ability to do a factory reset or refresh.
There is a work-around on the above link.
Another option:
Get the windows key using produkey. The key is embedded in the BIOS of all OEM windows 8 computers. Go here to download the 8.1 media iso and you can install Windows 8.1 or try the workaround in the above link.
Backup any important data first.

I have a refurbished HP EliteBook 8460p running windows 10, upgraded from windows 7. it won't let me factory reset. pressing f11 when restarting does not work. I did "settings>update & security>recovery>reset this pc" and I can get that far but once I click get started, nothing opens even after waiting a while. can't chat with HP support (I don't want to call because of severe social anxiety) because it says my product serial number does not exist (when I tried every number on the bottom of my laptop). dunno if it's because it's refurbished, but yeah. no idea what to do here.

Hi, I sold my HP Envy via eBay, prior to shipping it off I gave the laptop a factory reset, to give the user that new laptop experience. Currenty, my customer is not able to activate windows and Microsoft has said the licence is "blocked" by a 3rd Party. I'm assuming there is a step I'm missing in which I need to contact HP? Can someone please help me with the correct procedure to follow? Thanks

Hi all,
I do a lot of Java programming on my computer, and as such I use the command prompt often. Unfortunately, recently the paths it opens to have changed, and when I use CD to reset them it is not finding files in that directory anymore. I made no major changes to my system that I can recall, but there it is....
Anyway, my question is this, how can I reset the command prompt to the factory default settings without having to completely reinstall Windows??

Has you tried a System Restore to a date before you had the problem?

Hi, i'm new here.

So I have recently obtained an ASUS X45CP pre-installed with Windows 8

then I saw this thing at Microsoft website about windows 8.1 and I thought about upgrading

(which now I deeply regret)

After upgrading I found out that some of the device drivers are not fully supported yet (like the switchable graphics card)

So I thought of rolling back the laptop to factory settings and unfortunately windows 8.1 got that, too.

I've read various topics about that (mostly here), none of which I could follow to solve my problem.

I did not find install.wim but here is a screenshot where the boot.wim is, I believe it's an important part on this process

You're kind of hosed unless you created an 8 recovery flash/usb drive before upgrading. There is no ASUS program on your laptop for recovery? I have this on Acer:

Please help. Recently, I decided to do a factory reset, to cleanly wipe my drive, with the exception of Windows. When the reset was about 30% through, the reset failed. Now, when I try and use my laptop, it only gets to the ASUS logo, then goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore symbol on the top left corner. I've tried doing F9, SHIFT+F9, and everything else in between. My laptop is an ASUS G74SX, and I don't have a recovery partition for the laptop. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I also cannot get any external programs for the laptop, such as ISOs, etc.

See the comments in this thread. You will probably have to clean install Windows 10. I did a PC reset with Windows 10, it failed & now I have no OS at all

Hello, its really been a while since i factory reset my Alienware x51 R2. I did this so that everything would be wiped from my hard drive there for i would have more disk space. Everything went as planned. However after reinstalling Windows 8.1 with the disc that came with my new pc, i realized that i needed to activate windows. I didn't have this problem when installing windows for the first time. Is there any way i can get my product key from dell or Microsoft? or would i have to go buy windows?

About a week ago I decided to completely wipe my laptop clean and get it back to factory settings, so fresh windows fresh everything. I went through all the steps properly and click reset all drives. After about an hour, it showed '' Reset your PC. There was a problem resetting your PC. '' and gives me the option to hit cancel. once i hit cancel,
v in order v

I have a lenovo laptop.

My laptop starts up and says '' Preparing.. Diagnosing computer.. '' It then presents me with this log: C:\windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

.If whatever method presented wipes all of my data, thats perfect That is precisely what I want, I already took what was valuable from the laptop and transferred it to my new desktop.

I've pressed and held F8 to go to boot options but it doesn't let me through, just tells me its diagnosing my pc right on start up.

Hi guys!

So I want to factory reset my SONY laptop. When I purchased it it came with Windows 8 and then when Windows 8.1 came out I got the free upgrade. My question is: If I factory reset my laptop will I be able to get the free upgrade to Windows 8.1? Or will I be stuck with just Windows 8?

Thanks in advance,

A:Factory Reset, still get the FREE Windows 8.1 upgrade?

If you have an OEM PC that came with Windows 8 preinstalled and you updated to Windows 8.1, then when you refresh or reset Windows, it will reinstall Windows 8 from hard drive recovery partition (recovery image location) or from the recovery USB flash drive. Afterwards, you will need to update to Windows 8.1 via the Store again.

Before upgrade to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store, you do not need to install all Windows 8 updates from Windows Update. You only need to install KB2871389 update, then you?ll be able to install the Windows 8.1 update via the Windows Store. Download and install KB2871389 update from link or from Windows Update.

KB2871389 (direct download link)
- All supported x86-based versions of Windows 8:
- All supported x64-based versions of Windows 8:

But if you've opened the Windows Store and you don't see the Windows 8.1 update, then you will need to also install KB2917499 update.
