I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,Did you connect your machine to AC power when updating BIOS ? Please try a hard reset and see if it works.1. Power off your laptop2. Remove the a/c adapter, battery and everything that is attached to your laptop.3. Hold the 'POWER 'button down on your laptop for about 10 seconds.4. Plug in the a/c power supply (without battery) and power on. Note: You need to use AC power when udating BIOS.Regards.

I am going through the recommended steps to upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1.  This includes upgrading the BIOS to the latest version on my HP700-430eq desktop machine which I am very happy with in every respect. My current BIOS is 80.23 9-12-2014  2AF3 SSID family.  The HP recommended upgrade is to 80.24A 8-23-2015 I have had no issues with the current BIOS.  Is upgrading the BIOS a necessity for Win10?  According to HP there is no way to reinstall the old BIOS after installing 80.24A. Would appreciate any cautions or recommendations.Thank you!

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

What?

Didn't you reply here, and say it worked (after the unusual 9th try ) http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic109612-109.html#post747024

Awfully strange!

A bios update can't remove passwords. As You Must Know

Oh and thanks for the extended long Title. I'm thinking this Topic of yours would be best removed? What do you think?

Hi,

I bought Windows 7 having come from Vista. However, there is a BIOS update for my system. The new BIOS update states: The BIOS updates the fan control algorithm of the system, and turns the fan on at low volume while your notebook PC is operational. If you are currently experiencing any symptoms on your notebook PC, please contact HP for support. It is located here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...340180&lang=en

I'd love to flash it but not sure if it will ruin my computer as it's more than likely not designed for flash when Windows 7 is on it or do you's know any better?

I also have 2 blue vertical lines going do the right hand side of the screen. I've seen loads of problems but no solutions. Has any fixed this HP problem?

Cheers folks!

A:Upgrading BIOS after Upgrading from Vista to 7

The BIOS is the stuff that happens BEFORE Windows starts to load.
Do you have issues with overheating or with the fan? If so, the BIOS update is for you.
Also, BIOS flashes are dangerous - and you can turn your computer into a paperweight by doing it incorrectly. In short, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!

The type of lines that you describe on your screen are usually caused by hardware issues. Send it in for repair if the system is under warranty. If not, then get an estimate from a local computer store - it may be cheaper to live with it.

go into control panel > mouse setting > and verify click lock is off..

My computer keeps crashing and I keep getting this error. The error report I get back says the error is unknown, but consider a bios upgrade. I already went to my mobos manufacturers website and if you want a bios upgrade they refer you to some site that charges you money.

Does anyone know a free way to upgrade your bios? If you do, please explain with the most lamen terms possible, for I am not the greatest with repairs.

There is an old computer that needs to have the BIOS upgraded on it because it is very low advanced, and only gives you 3 different options in the setup. It is a very good computer, but the problem with this BIOS is that it will not recognize any hard drive over 2 gigs. I am trying to install a 15 gig in there now.

The purpose of reviving this computer is to give it to a friend who doesn't really have a computer, and I see this as a good alternative. I will also install Windows 2000 on this computer.

Now I heard that installing the incorrect BIOS software will completely DESTROY the motherboard and render it useless. Could someone point me to the correct software upgrade? I am not sure where to find the info for the BIOS either, such as the manufacturer.

Hi,
Trying to upgrade my bios so it has full support for my processor. I read through the instructions given, made a startup ms-dos floppy, and booted from the floppy (with the bios update on it). All I get is an error saying:
I/O disk error
Why is this? I've read through over forums, but nothing seems to help in terms of changing the cables around etc, the drive is working as I managed to copy files onto it.
Please help, anyone?

A:Bios Upgrading

Likely an error in the download. Those BIOS updates are protected as much as possible from defects. If there is any chance of a problem, the BIOS install will not run, because it can permanently ruin the computer.
Suggest you run a new download when all this bad weather has stopped stiring up the internet.

I am also not able to utilize all of my 4GB of memory (can see only 3GB) using my Asus P5B premium motherboard on my 64bit operating system. At the Asus web site there is a bios upgrade that corrects a problem as stated in the next sentence below.
"P5B Premium BIOS 1201
1. Fix CPU VID cannot be adjusted when using certain CPU"

Is it POSSIBLE that this bios upgrade (Fix CPU VID) MIGHT correct that problem? I'm reluctent to flash my bios but if flashing the bios MIGHT correct the problem its worth a try.

You need to confirm this with the service tag from your daughter's computer, but there is a BIOS update that can be run from the hard drive.

Go to http://support.dell.com and enter the computers service tag, and that will definitely lead you to the correct BIOS update.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your cpu should run on an fsb of 166mhz(333mhz effective) Giving you a cpu speed of 2083mhz.

See HERE for AMD Athlon XP specs.

Check in your bios that the fsb is correct.

Then I shutdown the system, insert floppy and reboot, so far, so good? I hope.
Now is there anything i need to do to backup in case of a bad install, if so what do i do? Does all the above seem correct also?

The command.com is the boot part
The autoexec.bat and config.sys files are for autoloading drivers and commands (not required)

Quote from here: http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us

However, you will need to have AFLASH.EXE (unzipped) utiility and set the floppy drive as the boot drive. Then, type in the command [ FORMAT A:/S ] (without [] brackets) in DOS mode to create a boot disk. Do not keep AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files in it; Later on, choose item [1] ?Save Current BIOS to File (Save Existing BIOS to File) screen will appear. Hi guys, so recently I've been hit with an error that involved the BIOS, to cut a long story short I want to upgrade my BIOS to the latest version.

My BIOS model and version is:

(according to System Information in Windows XP)

American Megatrends Inc.07.00T, 02/04/2001
SMBios Version: 2.3

I have went directly to AMI's website but they just direct you to a software that needs to be downloaded and paid for before you cane ven use it.

I have an ECS M848A rev 2.1 motherboard. So the BIOS and Motherboard manufacturer are not the same. I've also directly been to PC Chips website and can see that the M848AULA rev 2.1 is the exact same model as I can see on the picture on the website, and can confirm that is the one.

I'd like to know how I can found the right BIOS version for my system.

The problem is, the HP site only lists BIS upgrades for Vista and I was wondering if I could upgrade the BIOS using the Vista upgrade or do I need to use an XP one?

My computer is Envy 700-159, Windows 10 home, 64 bit.  The old version of BIOS was ok. But after I upgrade the BIOS to the latest version 80.21 Rev A (sp73062.exe ), I can't get booted into the SSD C drive that I want, and all the function keys (F1-12) including the Esc key don't work, so I can't even change the boot sequence.  I tried to change key board to a wired one from a wireless one, but didn't help either.  There may be a bug in this version of BIOS 80.21.  Any soluction?  Hope for a new version soon. Thanks.

I have an Ibm Netvista 2257-82u
1.0mghz processor
40 gig h.d.
Intel 810e onboard video..etc

The system is in a continuous boot mode it makes it to the Winxp
Startup screen.....and then it starts over........and over and over.
I was wondering if maybe updating the system bios might fix the problem. Iv'e tried running with a new harddrive and I still get the same problem.

sometimes when I put a harddrive in that is loaded with windows 98se, I can get it to boot up in safe mode but not with Xp.

Can a virus cause this problem? Can a virus reside in the hardware on the motherboard? If so how can I fix it?

A:Problems upgrading bios on ispiron 5100

The specs for the Dell insiron 5100 say that maximum ram is 1 GB. however this does not necessairlly mean that you can use a single 1Gb stick. it may be that your laptop has to have TWO 512 sticks to run at 1 Gb of ram. I would suggest checking your dell handbook or going to the dell site to see how large of a single stick of ram the laptop can use.

I was getting a system crash with my new GTX 770 when I had a 600w PSU with 34amps on the rail.

So I upgraded my PSU to 750w (CX750M) with 62amps on the rail. The GTX 770 requires that it has 42amps. So my 62amps is enough.

But I'm still getting system crashes when playing a game.

Any solution?
Thank you

A:Do I need to download driver or update Bios after upgrading new PSU?

Power supplies do not require a driver and are not affected by the BIOS version.

You may have a different problem. If you can post the error messages from the crash here that may provide some clues, or you could post in the BSOD Help and Support Forum. Follow their posting instructions to get the best help.

I have a T500 (2081CTO) running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and am preparing to upgrade to W10. The Lenovo Windows 10 docs I've read say to upgrade to the most recent BIOS before upgrading. My current BIOS is version 3.22 (6FET92WW) dated 2011. Despite Lenovo System Update v5.07.0029 NOT displaying any BIOS updates, when I happened to check Lenovo's site for drivers & software I see that Version 3.23 (BIOS ID: 6FET93WW) update is available. It is not described as "Important" and only offers "Added support for the function to disable & unconfigure AMT via WMI". I'm not sure if SU is failing to offer the update, or if has good reason not to offer it. I've also read that some people have had issues with v3.23 and needed to revert to the previous 3.22 version. Is the newer version "really" required to perform the W10 upgrade? Frank

A:Difficulty upgrading bios on a Nforce2 chipset

If the "latest" BIOS revision is 2004, then you may not be able to upgrade .

Most (if not all) BIOS are tied to a board/chipset/manufacturer combination, and I doubt if it's prudent to go "BIOS shopping" and install an alien piece of firmware in your beloved board. It sounds like a recipe for disaster,

The RAID controllers you speak off should be based in hardware as well, and your board simply may not have the capabilities you want.

It's way easy to turn a board into a brick with an improper BIOS flash, even the right update.

I realize that I'm no fun, sorry. Maybe someone else knows more about this than I do.

A quick google leads me to believe that the Phoenix Corporation manufacturers "Award BIOS", and that they're really not 2 separate entities. But here again, things change fast in tech products.
Here's the answer, they've merged: http://vista-agent.com/

My friend's Win8 upgrade ( no, really! It was MY FRIEND'S machine, I swear!) halted on an error with an Intel driver issue. The solution was simple, he just needed to update his drivers from the mobo website BEFORE trying to upgrade to Win8. Untold hours of misery trying to track down the error rather than the few minutes of updating his drivers.

Dear forum users,
I have a big problem as my Dell Inspiron15 3000 series laptp started to behave strangely since I updated the bios from the version on the dell drivers and support website.

I upgraded to the V12 version Dell Inspiron 3442,3542,5748 System BIOS Version: A12 ,A12, when originally the laptop came with version A06.

However, since the upgrade, my laptop battery drains after I have switched the laptop off. Therefore I'm having all kinds of issues starting the laptop in the morning and I am afraind this behaviour will lead to a disfunctioning laptop rather soon.
Downgrading the bios version to version A06 is not possible as the utility exists with the message that Dell doesn't recommend downgrading the BIOS version.
What can I do?

MisterZ Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... According to the HP product page, the ONLY BIOS update version available is from back in 2011 and that was for Win7, not even Win8, and certainly -- NOT for Win10.  BIOS corruption is serious -- REALLY serious -- to the degree that this is probably NOT fixable, at least, without paying a LOT of money to a certified repair facility to reflash the BIOS chip in your desktop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04126730 But, if these don't work (and they probably will NOT), your only recourse will be to pay someone to reflash the BIOS in your desktop.  Here is information on  HP Service Centers: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0004Good Luck

Hey guys, so somehow my windows 7 PC doesn't really work anymore, it keeps on crashing after a minute or two with the dreaded exception message (I suspect one of the automated system updates didn't install properly). I can login into the safe mode with networking and I have been able to use it.

I was thinking of upgrading to windows 10, however; it seems that I cannot upgrade while I am logged in safe mode. and my PC doesn't work if I am not in safe mode. What's the option for me?

It's a Dell PC, so I can do a factory restore, but it also means wiping out everything installed along with the data. What are the options? How do I upgrade?

Thank you!

I would suggest that you fix the problem first before you even consider upgrading to Win 10.

Please go to Sevenforums and ask the experts to solve your problem.
Make sure you give precise full error message. Not just "dreaded exception message".

I have 256mb ddr ram pc2100 from a company called LEI (87L5IDLO-ILDG). This is exactly what is says on my stick.

I heard from a friend, it's best to match the rams company plus mghz. The problem is I can't find this brand anywhere. I googled and nothing comes up.

This is how computer stores make their money, by sticking generic crap and relying on the name Pentium to sell.

So what should I do now...Can someone show me where I can find LEI ram? Can I install another brand with my current one? Should I throw this stick away and upgrade to 3200 mghz?

If you need to know computer specs, etc..please tell me where to find the info and i'll gladly tell you.

Thanks so much.

I just upgraded to Windows 8 and am experiencing several issues. I've updated several times but these issues persist.

My Desktop is void of Icons. When I browse to my desktop and files folder all the shortcuts and files show up but don't appear on the desktop itself.

When I right click on my desktop I get the "twirly circle" for about 20-40 seconds before the right click menu shows up.

My computer freezes up every time I use the search function and select "Files." I have no problem with apps or settings but as soon as I move to files I freeze up and have to manually restart. I can search my files using the file browser with no issues.

Sometimes my computer won't recover from going into sleep mode by moving the mouse or pressing a key. I have to push the power button 2 or 3 times.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
I'm kind of new at upgrading systems, I currently have:
Dell Dimension 9150, Pentium D 3.2Ghz
256mb Radeon x600
1GB Ram
Windows XP,

Instead of buying a new system, I thought it'd be easier to just upgrade this one, its not too outdated. All in all, i would like to run an nvidia 8800 GTX, I know I'd have to change the psu and add more ram... anything else I'm overlooking? Would it be worth it or would it end up just bottle necking?
Thank You

A:Upgrading Issues

Well you dont necessarily need to upgrade your RAM but it would be good to improve the speed. Also if you want to take advantage of Direct X 10 gaming then you'll need windows vista (only if you want to). And has your current computer got an AGP slot or a PCI-E, if it has an AGP then you would need to get a new motherboard but i think you'll probably have a PCI-E, best to check before you buy the card.

A:Satellite C660-125 - Unable to access BIOS after Upgrading to Windows 10

You need to install the Toshiba System Driver for Windows 10.
However the C660 doesnt appear to be in the supported list, so you may need to go into the BIOS instead.

Hold SHIFT during shutdown to stop Windows from entering Hybrid Suspend Mode. Keep on holding SHIFT until the power LED turns off.
The F2 BIOS message only appears if the notebook does a cold boot.

I have W8 (8.1) and I simply hate it. Although, it may be because I made some registry modifications that aren't going so well anymore in the past. For some reason I got annoyed by some of the listings in the start menu and I removed them. That's not a big deal, but W8 isn't working the way I want it to right now anyways.

I've looked up ways to downgrade to windows 7, the default OS of this laptop I have, and I have NOT been able to find a useful guide that makes sense. Even the one on MS's page that tries to explain it.

Will upgrading to W10, then re-downgrading back to 8 fix some problems such as registry changes, and things like VERY specific, small and deep changes to my computer's settings (that I can't even dig back up)?

Is this safe?

A:Will upgrading then downgrading W10 fix PC issues?

Hi JimmyKarter Basically, no it won't work. If you upgrade to Windows 10, it might fix the issues you're having, since it'll be a clean upgrade. If you downgrade however from Windows 10, it'll use the Windows 8.1 installation you had that will be saved in the windows.old folder, so the settings will be restored, even those which "annoys" you.

My attempts recently to update iTunes from version 6 to version 7 have been futile. My issue is that every time I attempt to upgrade, the iTunes 7 Installer encounters errors when removing the previous version of Quicktime. Numerous uninstallation attempts have failed, as the uninstallshield program crashes to the desktop before fully initializing.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Please note also that I am installing iTunes to a non-boot hard drive, if that may be an issue.

Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) and type exactly:
sfc /scannow

This will take a while to run and fix any corrupt any system file errors.

What anti virus software are you using and did you do a full scan?

Hello there everyone I've been Windows 7 upgrading to Issues working on a system for a little while now and am ready to upgrade it to Windows currently running XP Pro SP and yes it is capable of running Long story short here are the issues that I am facing When trying to boot from the disk the system skips over the DVD drive and goes directly to XP boot even Issues upgrading to Windows 7 though in the BIOS the DVD drive is the first boot option and even does so when I manually select to boot from the disk drive When trying to run the software from XP the error message Windows could not retrieve information about disks on this computer even after populating the disk through Device Management This system and all of my XP install disks it seems lack VDS exe which has never caused a problem in previous upgrades Anyhow hopefully there's something relatively simple that I am overlooking as I've completed this process many a time before without a hitch and am at my wit's end with this system Cheers and thanks in advance D

A:Issues upgrading to Windows 7

Two things occur to me.

(1)  Your Win 7 install disc could be faulty - rare, but has been known to happen. Try it in another computer and see if it will boot from that disc.

I've been working on a system for a little while now

I take it this means you have backed up any data you want off it, then,

(2)  Use either a self-booting Linux CD (Puppy comes to mind) or a partitioning disc like GParted to format your C:\ drive then run the installer. I have used Puppy several times in the past to good effect to recover data and check otherwise odd drives. I have no personal experience with GParted but people on BC whose opinions I trust speak highly of it.

Like you, I have updated computers from XP to Win 7 a number of times but I have never run into this problem myself.

Hello,
I am in the process of updating from NT 4.0 Server to W2K server. When I start the installation I get this warning message:

WARNING!
Please read before continuing with the upgrade!

Windows 2000 Setup has detected that your system configuration includes a Zero-Channel RAID (SCSI Interrupt Steering Logic) storage controller slot. You can continue with the upgrade, but setup might not finish and configuration data may be lost.

Is anyone familiar with this message? What must I do to safely proceed with the upgrade?

Thanks,

Hi all,

I recently updated the driver for my ATI HD7950, since i have done this I keep getting BSOD compaining about ATI.

I have seen in the past a thread on here detailing how to properly update the drivers by removing the previous version and using Driver Sweeper but couldnt find it, and updated the best i could but clearly missed a step somewhere.

Any one able to define the steps for me or point me towards the thread or one similar?

Hi Looking for USB after Windows to 10 upgrading issues help with some issues that developed after installing Windows Background No problems with Windows Had computer for years held off on upgrading to Windows in fear of problems but was USB issues after upgrading to Windows 10 in queue to get the upgrade Pop up would USB issues after upgrading to Windows 10 come up every so often to upgrade but I dismissed the requests Well one of my kids must have accidentally allowed the upgrade to happen I navigated the system amp found no real issues so I kept the upgrade to Windows I noticed I had a problem with quot permissions quot on USB drives after I backed up my sister's old Iphone to my hard drive she has no real computer for storage space Anyhow I was gonna put all of her pictures and videos on a flash drive to give to her for safe keeping After I copied them over to the drive I tried to look at them to make sure everything went over well I recieved a quot you don't have permission to view this file quot message I deleted everything and tried again Same message I'm thinking maybe Apple has some type of proprietary stuff embedded in the files so I just shelve the project for a while Fast forward to recently I was trying to edit a USB drive that had music on it It recognizes the drive but it would not let me delete any files I recieved another quot permissions quot message I was able to copy files over to the drive but I got quot files already exist do you want to overwrite quot I clicked yes and the files were copied I thought that was odd because the files copied were NOT on the flash drive like the comuter said they were so I used a fresh blank flash drive and copied some pictures to it Same event took place The computer told me the files already existed if I want to overwrite or abort They do copy over if I click overwrite I start googling permissions and administrator stuff I had only one default admin account and created another user Followed the direction of some other websites to try to put permissions as global for the admin account It looks like I should have full control of everything Yesterday I took an old flash drive with pictures on it The computer recognizes the drive and I can see the files on the drive but if I try to open one I get the quot you don't have permission etc quot message I took the same flash drive onto my laptop and I can view the pictures Clearly something is screwed up with my USB stuff from the upgrade to Windows I was wondering if you folks could give me a few suggestions on how to remedy my problem I would rather not reinstall Windows if I do not have to After several hours of searching some suggest it could be a drivers issue while others say it can be cured thru quot device permissions quot I have a custom build unit with an ASUS motherboard Any help is greatly appreciated

I've got a computer with Vista 32-bit and it sucks so I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 7, but the installer does not launch it just hangs with the cursor and the little spinning circle. I know it's not the disk because I tried it in Safe Move and the installer launched! (only for it to tell me I can't install Windows in Safe Mode, GRRRR!! :fou: )I ran Combofix and it found some viruses and cleaned them up. I also ran chk dsk / r but I think it already did some major damage to the system because even installers for FireFox won't launch and it keeps saying things like regsvr32.exe -bad image.C:\Windows\AppPatch/AcGenral.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.I told my friend about this and he was like "yea, Vista sucks... You should get Windows 7" and I was like DUH!

A:Having Serious Issues Upgrading to Windows 7

Using ComboFix on your own is not recommended. It is a very powerful tool and should be used only under supervision of a BC Malware expert.

You say that you have done some damage to Windows Vista files and that you had malware on Vista. At this stage, I recommend that you do a fresh install of Windows 7 rather than upgrading from Vista to 7.

Hey guys,

I have been having a serious issue with my laptop lately. I am using Windows 7, and every time I try to copy a file from one place to another, be it on the computer or from USB, explorer crashes and restarts. This means I cannot backup my files onto an external HDD, which is what I wanted to do in order to reformat.

I have tried sfc/scannow, disk defrag, scanned with MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and the problem still persists with a new user. Also bear in mind that I have had this laptop for around 7 years (I think) so maybe it is just something that was inevitably going to happen.

So my question is, if I finally give in to the Windows 10 upgrade notification, will this resolve the issue of explorer.exe constantly crashing or does it not work like that?

Thanks in advance.

A:Will upgrading to Win 10 fix issues with explorer.exe crashing in W7?

I suspect it will fix it, and I would recommend Win 10 if your hardware and software is compatible.

If after upgrading to Win 10 and the remote chance you still have the problem, a "clean" install will be required.

One note, before upgrading, backup (make a disc image) of your entire hard drive to some other media such as a USB connected hard drive. If you don't have an image program the free Macrium Reflect (a UK company) program will do that.

Hey guys, I've been having some issues with latency issues recently. It all started after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7.

I have tried upgrading all my drivers, and even downgrading my Network driver thinking it might fix the problem, but to no avail.

I am a big online gamer, so you can understand the frustration. My ping sits around 19-20 but will spike up to anywhere between 50-80 for 5 seconds, then back down. This happens every 15-20 seconds or so.

I've left DPC Latency Checker running while I disable both my audio drivers, with no change, as well as my Network driver, and the issue still persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! I don't know what more I can do at this point.

This issue is definitely on my end, because my desktop computer has no latency issues, so I don't believe it is my ISP, and the issues didn't start till I upgrading my OS.

A:Audio/Video Issues after upgrading RAM

Hello & welcome jayocal.First a question if I may, how are you identifying the channels to fit memory on the system board? If as you say your system came fitted with 2 x 512M DIMMs in one channel, it will not be running dual channel, which will reduce memory bandwidth. And if you added 2 x 1GB DIMMs to the other channel, then the system will still not be running dual channel, since dual channel (on almost all boards) requires the same size and configuration of DIMMs in each channel.Boards normally color code the channels, eg :For your current configuration to to run dual channel on the board above, there would normally need to be a 1G and a 512M DIMM in the slots for each color. (Their order may or may not matter, but it should be the same in each. Sometimes an unsuitable arrangement will stop a system from booting up. In that case, turn off & reverse it. I hope you are aware you must turn the system off at the mains before changing memory, not just into standby.)If your board looks more like this:the sequence will be different but the requirements for each channel will be similar. Are you able to confirm please what arrangement of DIMMs you have used already, and if none have followed the color sequence with 1G & 512M in each, would you care to try it and let us know if it makes any difference to the system's behavior?

hi im pretty new to computers but im willing to learn. i have a dell dimension e520 the power supply is 305 wat im putting in a geforce 8600 gt oc it requires 325 wat, the problem is that I herd that dell isnt compatible with any other psu other than the ones you order from them, is this true? and if not what psu are compatible with the e520?

A:Psu issues with upgrading my graphics card

Im still learning like you, but im pretty sure you can buy a psu from most third party psu developers like antec, cosair, rosewill, etc. I upgraded my dimension e510(almost identical to your comp i had a 305watt psu) and bought a cosair psu and it fits just fine. I wouldn't worry too much about if they will fit or not. What you should focus on is if the certain psus you are looking at have enough amperage in their rail/rails and if the psu meets the total power output of your computer plus a 30% cushion to be safe.

I am looking to do some upgrades to my desktop, which is currently running Windows Vista Business x64 (OEM system builder license). It is a PC that I built myself several years back. I want to upgrade it to Windows 7 Pro x64 and upgrade the CPU, motherboard and RAM.

I found a copy of Windows 7 Pro for Refurb PC's that is specifically for upgrading from Vista Business, so I think that I have the Windows upgrade part covered.

I was wondering if I should upgrade the hardware before upgrading Windows or do it afterward? Though, I have an uneasy feeling that neither Windows license will accept that major of a hardware change. I was really hoping that I would not have to start fresh and reinstall all of my programs.

A:Issues upgrading CPU and mobo with Vista or 7?

You are gonna do the upgrades 1st.

Windows may still boot, you never know. But it`s best to reinstall windows when changing the motherboard unless it`s the same exact model.

As long as you have your Vista key, you should be fine with the upgrade.

If windows no longer boots, you`ll be forced to re install, or attempt a repair install.

Hi,
I've just tried upgrading to Windows 10, and when it was complete, and I was working through the setup it asked me to find a network to complete the rest of the setup. In completing this step, my network was nowhere to be found. I tried searching for the network name, and tried hidden networks, but my network would not come up. I am in an apartment building, and there are a bunch of other networks to choose from, but mine is not there.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? I downgraded back to Windows 8.1 because the network still works on 8.1.
Please help!

A few years back, I bought a Win 7 laptop from Costco which was upgraded to Win 10 once it became available. Recently, the laptop failed and so I downloaded Win 10 from the Microsoft site and installed it.

My son said that since doing this, the performance has been poor and the laptop has been freezing. He never had this issue when the laptop was Win 7 and upgraded to Win 10. The issue only started after installing a vanilla version of Win 10.

What I am wondering is if this is a driver issue of some sort. When we bought the PC, it was Win 7 and then we upgraded to Win 10.

I have found the original Win 7 DVDs for this laptop. If I was to reinstall Win 7 on the laptop, how would I upgrade it to Windows 10 again?

Hi, I have a laptop with these specifications:
Nvidia Quadro K3000M/2GB VRAM + Intel HD 4000 2GB
16GB RAM
Windows 8.1 Pro
Intel Core i7 3740QM
I tried to update to Windows 10 once in 2015 Nov and once in May 2016. Both times, after installing Win10 over Win8.1 and updating graphics drivers, I experienced horrible screen tearing problems in games. Enabling Vsync makes the game run at 15-20 fps (was running at 30-45 on Win8). Both times I used the "go back to windows 8" option and now I'm on Windows 8.1. Windows 10 seems to have a lot of features and I want to get it before July 29. However, I don't want to have every single game lagging. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Im rather frustrated so I will keep this short. Cleared the CMOS, reseated the battery and all RAM chips too. Running a dual core 2.0 GHz 800 FSB. I have a core 2 Quad 2.6 GHz 1333FSB that I tried to put in. Hits verifying DMI pool data then resets OR displays "Bootmgr is missing" blah blah blah ... Windows 7 dvd, or vista, will not load for all kinds of errors but the most common seems to be 0xc0000001 or ntkrnlpa.exe missing or corrupt yeah yeah yeah ... even with the HDD unhooked. How is that even possibly for it to know? Ive reset it, discharged it ... Im so lost ... Im running windows 7 on an EVGA 650i Ultra MOBO with the latest BIOS updated before I started all this stuff ... tried with 5 GB of RAM and with 3 GB too ... !!!!UGH!!!!! It runs perfectly fine with the dual core ... What am I doing wrong?

... Could be the 3 hours of sleep ...

Please help :-)

A:Upgrading to a quad core ISSUES!

Does your system if you boot to some other non-descript system, like a linux live CD?

Changing the processor may cause all types of problems. From what you seem to be saying, I would use the Win 7 DVD and go to the second screen and select repair and startup repair. Maybe running that 2 or 3 times would help.

When you installed the new CPU, did you set bios defaults and then check to make sure they were what you needed?

I have not changed to a new processor after an install, so I do not know what it might do.

I upgraded my Probook 6560b notebook to Windows 10 64-bit and I am having issues with Windows Explorer crashing every couple of seconds. When I attempt to go to the Control Panel to start uninstalling software that may be conflicting with the OS, as soon as I open the Control Panel, Windows Explorer crashes and closes everything that was open and I'm back to the Desktop.  I started uninstalling anything that was HP related on the machine by using the portable version of Reveo uninstaller but I still can't find the culprit, including uninstalling the Validity fingerprint software.  I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can offer me on this issue.  Thanks

ITTech9 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems since your Win10 Upgrade and wanted to help. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: How to Resolve Post-Win10 Upgrade Issues on HP Laptops ... - HP Support Forum - 5209825 In addition, you should consider doing something known as a Repair-Install.  This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact. To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Once you have that media, follow the instructions in the link:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.htmlGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

A:Issues after upgrading to Windows 10 (Display and Backup)

To increase the brightness, go to Settings->System->Display. There you will find a slider bar where you can adjust the brightness of the screen.

Need to know what software you are using to perform backups ?

Ok so I have a 2900xt which goes up to direct-x 10 and I want to upgrade to windows 7 from XP.

My question is: will I be able to use direct-x 10 on Windows 7 or will i need a new card?

This graphics card is fantastic and I'd hate to have to get a knew one jusat because of direct-x as there are few better than this one despite it using a lower version of direct-x.

A:Upgrading to Windows 7 - ATI 2900xt direct-x possible issues?

you will be able to use the 2900 in windows 7.

directX 11 in win7 is the support, not the requirements.

A:issues upgrading from win 7 RC Ultimate to Home Premium

It needs the IDE controller normally on older machines but these errors can also indicate other issues, even with hardware.

The best place to start is always googling the error message text exactly.

Did you know that many have in-place Upgraded RC successfully using this workaround: Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version Icrontic Tech

I just did this for my friend cross country via Remote Desktop while also removing dual boot XP and moving Win7 over into its space. He says it runs much better than RC.

All other reports on this in-place are favorable, too.
