I have a faulty 5 month old XPS 13 9350, the laptop is 5 months into a 2 year warranty, the first year is with Dell, the second year is with John Lewis, who we bought it through - we think either the battery has failed, or the motherboard. The laptop is obviously still under warranty, If I open the sealed unit to test the battery, and to backup my hard drive will my warranty be voided if I then take it to John Lewis for repair?
I have spoken to John Lewis and they say that if we take it into them, they will send off to Dell for repair and that, due to the Data Protection Act, whatever the problem is with the laptop they will wipe my hard drive??????
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hello! On most models of computers that Dell sells, they allow you to add or remove parts to suit your needs as long as you do not damage them. You can find the service manual for your laptop here. As for what John Lewis' policies are I'm not sure as I've never heard of them. Dell will do testing on the battery and motherboard as well as other components based on your issues when they receive the laptop.
As for data, its always a good idea to back up your hard drive. There are generic steps that companies take when diagnosing computers and other devices and sometimes that requires reloading the OS and other software components to have a 'clean slate', as such they would wipe your hard drive.
Does anyone know if 9350 has the same battery as the 9343 or is it different?
When it comes to the 9350, what are the exact specs of its battery?
Li-Po or Li-ion?
cell count 4 or 6?
I just received my new laptop.
Battery is dead.
Warranty is waaay too complicated.
The batteries don't interchange between the two models. There are 4- and 6-cell options (the 6 cell comes ONLY with systems that have only an M.2 SSD - not a 2.5" drive (the battery consumes the space that holds the 2.5" drive).
The battery is proprietary and the system new enough that Dell is likely the only source.
After a lackluster week with TB15, I have a problem with my Dell 9350 (early 2016).
I noticed that the battery drained faster than it's supposed to be.
Generated battery report

I saw on some posts that the design capacity was around 57mWh with 55mWh of full chage capacity.

Above is the estimated battery life, but I have never got up until 7 hours.
Latest BIOS is installed:
Current setting is Power Saver with 0% brightness.
Any other settings that can be recommended are welcome.
Otherwise I might need to ring DELL again.
I forgot to mention that the battery drained by 10% even on shut down mode (I have never put the laptop on sleep).http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19984315
Hey :). I'm coming from a Lenovo machine (which I returned due to build defects). They had a software which prevented the battery from charging until it dropped under 50%. This is very useful for maintaining battery life. I saw that Dell has something similar in BIOS but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have any effect. The setting I'm using is under "power management" -> "primary battery charge configuration". I set "custom charge start" at 50% and "custom charge stop" at 95%. The stop works, but not the start. It always charges.
I kind of remember there used to be a tool to control this as well. Any ideas?
I've had it for 4 whole weeks and my XPS13 9350 seemed fine. But now:
- it won't turn on unless it is connected to the main power supply- while plugged it to the main power supply the battery meter is stuck at 37%- if I pull out the power cable while it is turned on it switches off immediately
What is wrong with it ?
It's most likely a bad battery - call Dell for warranty service.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19989066
Few days ago I got my Dell Xps 13 (skylake, non-touch, full-hd, intel core I7, 250 GB SDD), but I am quite disappointed because of the battery life. Normal usage (wifi, Word, 30% brightness, internet, chat) gives me 4.20 hours. Very far away from the 11 hours reviewers claim.
I have also updated the BIOS. But it did not improve much.
Do you believe the battery could be defective? These are the results: FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 54 mWh CYCLE COUNT - Since OS install At full charge 4:29:51 At design Capacity 4:47:21 Thanks in advance for you time.
What screen do you have? You'll never see anywhere near 11 hours (or even 8-9) with a 4K resolution screen.
With an FHD screen and solid power management settings, 8-9 should be possible -- and if you have the 4K screen, cut those numbers in half, so if that's what you've got, 4.5-5 hours is pretty good and you likely will not see more runtime out of the battery.
Hi I have a Dell XPS - with BIOS version installed Here s what I d like to achieve The battery should only start charging at charge or lower In case that it s charging the maximum charge should be So for example if the current charge is and I plug the AC in the battery should NOT start charging because it s over nbsp Here s what I already tried BIOS menu Settings - gt Power Management - gt Primary Battery Charge Configuration Then I selected quot Custom quot and entered the values from above Result No matter what the current charge is the battery starts charging anyways when I plug the AC in So for example if the current charge is and I plug the AC in the battery starts charging Dell Command Power Manager I installed the software and set the settings like in the BIOS menu in Same result as in Charging starts whatever the current charging level is Dell Command Power Manager I also of Custom (9350): Start Charge XPS 13 Battery tried to use this software Same result as in and Thanks a lot for any helpful reply
I have exactly the same issue. Someone please help.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19674627
I was having problems with unexpected shutdowns and the laptop was operating really slow and sometmes the operating system froze.
I have checked for viruses etc but it appears clean, also have norton installed.
yesterday the battery stopped charging and I can no longer use the laptop as it just will not power up when plugged in.
someone suggested it may be the charging unit, is this the part right where the power cable is plugged in because this part was getting very hot.
The battery worked until it stopped charging up and the battery could be used for about an hour before needing recharging.
going to check the cable on a friends laptop to check if that is the problem and may be able to check the battery.
currently on an old tower to contact you, any help would be great thanks in advance
As of today my XPS 13 started to behave in a very strange way.It only boots and works when it's plugged in to a charger, and it doesn't seem to charge the batter at all while it's plugged it, which is stuck at ~48%. When I plug it out, it power off immediately and I have to plug it back in to be able to boot up. Additionally to that, the light indicator below the touchpad is bliking rapidly with an amber light (~3-4 blinks per second).
Any ideas of what might go wrong ?
Hi This is my second post regarding my XPS in one week as it seems to be having lot of issues I was previously facing issue with sleep mode it wasnt going to sleep at all But after updating BIOS to it sort of recovered from that problem Now yesterday night I closed the lid with battery life expecting it to go to sleep issue drainage 9350 bug and battery 13 !!! Dell severe XPS Set to go to sleep when lid off In morning when I reached the bag I felt like the laptop was literally burning It was so hot to touch and the led light in front was giving orange yellow in color When I opened the lid the lock screen appeared which shouldnt be the case as it should have been in hibernation which indicates the machine was not off at all The battery life was indicating From to that too when was put to be off This are some serious concerns for a premium product like XPS I am expecting a proper solution to this malfunction issue of the product nbsp
UPDATE : Ok , now the battery life has dropped down to 4 Hours 30 Minutes !! Also the device is really heating up while using, I can feel the heat at the edge of the display and keyboard. The bottom part is even more heated ! Please give a solution to this !http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19679340
My XPS 13 started to act out pretty strange today. It seems like it doesn't not use battery at all, thus I can only boot it up when it's plugged to the charger. The battery indicator shows that it's NOT charging the battery, and it's stuck at 48%. When I disconnect it from the charger while it's running, it turns off immediately, and the only way to boot it up is to plug it back again. Additionally, the light indicator below the touchpad is blinking rapidly (~3-4 blinks per second) with amber light, both when I'm in OS as well as already on Dell splash screen during boot.
Any ideas on what might be going on ? I have bios 1.3.3 which I updated around April.
i've got a brand new dell xps 13 9350 (2016 model) and i reainstalled clean windows 10 pro on it. All drivers are good and i've got this weird problem.
When AC is plugged in, everything works perfectly, no weird sounds. However as soon as i plug out the power, there is that buzzing sound when i scroll or do some acitons. I changed all three power plans (balanced, saver, performance), it's still the same, and i turned off c-states and intel speedstep in BIOS, still the same.
What could cause this issue, any option/driver? I really think it has something to do with the software, because when on AC it doesn't happen.
Any help would be appreaciated.
Update: Hmmm as soon as my battery got full, it started buzzing on ac well. Now when i unplug ac it stops. This is driving me insane. Any hint?http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19987547
Hi everyone File this under quot Learned back unit Soldering onto CMOS battery motherboard It The Hard Way quot My school district has carts of Gateway VTX laptops for student use and we ve been able to solve just about every problem except for this one a student put an HDD password on one of the units As I m sure most of you know and I do too now HDD passwords take an act of Congress to bypass In other words it s nearly impossible especially on a laptop I ve resigned myself to the fact that we re going to have Soldering CMOS battery unit back onto motherboard to replace the hard drive and go on our merry way However in my eagerness and ignorance I thought that taking the CMOS battery out and resetting it would do the trick so I tried this In so doing I managed to uproot the whole battery assembly from the motherboard of the laptop To make a long story short too late I know I need a lesson on soldering this battery assembly back onto the Soldering CMOS battery unit back onto motherboard motherboard myself I can send the unit away for repair but that would hurt the district s pocketbook and my pride something fierce Suffice it to say that I have become a computer tech by learning on the job as I went and I have been able to tackle most things Soldering is new to me though Any how-to s suggestions or tips anyone can share I d be very grateful nbsp
I have encountered the problem that when my XPS13 is on sleep mode during the night, in the morning the battery is 10-15% or totally dead. I normally leave it at 100% or 80% so that's a lot of battery life lost. With hibernate mode on, the battery does not drain, however, I am not a fan of hibernate mode as it shortens the lifetime of the SSD and takes a longer time to start up. Normally, I don't leave any high-performance apps open during the night, it's normally only Firefox, Skype, and Word that are left open in sleep mode. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I've had my new XPS13 for about six weeks. It has been working fine.
Last night as I was using it, the screen suddenly went blank and I can't find any way to get it working again.
There's one clue though. When I press the power button, the light under the trackpad (which is, I think, the battery indicator light) starts flashing. It flashes amber twice and then white once. It repeats this a few times before stopping.
I assume this flash pattern is trying to tell me something, but I can't find any documentation for this. So can someone please help me out with a couple of things.
1/ A pointer to the documentation for these flash patterns.
2/ A suggest for a solution for my current problem.
Based on the given information, kindly try these steps and advise the result.
*Have any recent changes(software/hardware) done to the system?
*Is the same issue seen with charger & battery ?or have you tried to power on the system with charger only?
*Have you tried to release static charge from the system by removing the charger & battery then just keep the power button pressed for about 15- 20 seconds. Then try to power on the system with charger or battery.
*When the charger is connected to the system does the light on the charger continue to stay on ?

I have HP ENVY ... in warranty but its battery have problem ... battery goes charge and dischrage so fast ... can i replace that batteryhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Re-Battery-replacement-under-warranty/td-p/5836408
I added the battery warranty to my warranty but am not sure what it covers. Does the battery need to literally go dead or does it cover wear and tear where it starts to hold less of a charge? Thanks.
I was wondering the same, I believe its a one time sealed battery replacement for any reason (inop, wear & tear)https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Tablet-and/Is-battery-warranty-worth-it/td-p/3287126
The computer kept giving an error message that something was wrong whenever I tried to wake it up from sleep.I did a restart and a reset with the same results. However, if I remove the battery pack and run on the power supply it operates normally.I do not understand how the battery can affect it this way when, on battery power, the computer came alive enough to give the error message in the first place. Do I need a replacement battery pack?thankshttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/Warranty-for-battery-pack/td-p/5787169
my battery recently reported permanent failure, it was under warranty so I contacted Dell support to request a replacement. I've provided all the necessary information and had also ran some diagnostics, the person I was in contact with was happy with all the information provided and informed me that they'll send me a replacement.
Few days later he messaged me the below. I'm not quite sure why they need my whole laptop for this, I'm not really happy to have it collected and kept by them for what I can imagine will be several days if not weeks. Is this a normal course of action for faulty battery?
"I forgot to tell you that the warranty on the system is Collect and Return, which means we have to collect that system and have that fully diagnosed and checked through our repair team. "
It depends on the system you have. If the battery isn't user-removeable (i.e., it's inside the system rather than easily removed by sliding a latch externally),it's not a user repair and you will need to return the system to the depot for service.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19974885

hi,my laptop model is dv 2911 tx and it is under warranty so i would like to know whether battery replacement will be covered under warranty or do i have to purchase a new one? Thank you,Ankit
It should be, contact HP and ask, they will want you to run a battery test and get a failure code before they will replace it under warranty. The battery on my HP Pavillion Laptop will not charge and is likely dead. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps including: (1) uninstalling and reinstalling the batterty driver, (2) reverting back to a previous restore point and(3) reinstalling Windows 10. None of these steps have work so I concluded that the battery is dead. My product is still under warranty but after an hour on this site, I still cannot determine how to get my battery replaced. Please advise me on where I can request a replacement battery.

later the laptop refused to turn on...so i reconnected the charger and the laptop turned on with the light that displays charging status (white light near the screen-keyboard intersection) starts flickering in a cycle of 5 times...4 times orange and 1 time white...and this cycle continues till i use the laptop.
and this message is displayed when i go to BATTERY HEALTH option "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature" my laptop is outta warranty...what should i do ? kindly help
Welcome to the community.
I am sorry to read that you are having this trouble. The battery failing is the most likely culprit but you should check to see if there are any problems with either the notebook or Ac adapter before rushing out and replacing the battery.
I would start by checking the bios, start the system tapping F2 to enter the bios, you can also tap F12 and choose bios from the menu. Once in the bios look for the option for AC adapter warnings, if they are disabled enable them and save changes. If there is a problem with the adapter you should start getting errors about the adapter.
If the Adapter seems alright, disconnect the battery from the system and power down the notebook. Wait an hour or so and then replace the battery and restart the system and see if you continue to get the message. If you can run the notebook on battery only allow the battery to fully discharge and then charge it again and see if the problem returns.
I know that this may not be possible short of buying a new battery but if possible try a power adapter and battery and see if the problem continues. This way you can find out if the problem follows the battery the ac adapter or the notebook.
Please let me know what you find out.
Hi I bought an HP Envy 13 about 3 month ago. Today I was with a friend with the same notebook and I realized that one of my two internal fan makes a strange noise, like there's something that hits the fan. My question is: can I open my notebook and check the fan status without void the official hp warranty? Maybe replacing it with an original hp spare part.I can't return the notebook because I need for working purpose.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/does-open-my-notebook-void-warranty/td-p/5778470

Just a quick question...I know that switching to Linux will void my warranty, but does downloading and using Open Office usually result in a void of warranty? Just wondering if anyone knows
I'm planning on buying a notebook. Being a computer tech, i'd like to open it up and take a look inside.... And in the future if there is any upgrade/maintanence to perform, i'd like to do it myself.
Will this void the warranty?
And if i say i didn't open it, is there any way dell will find out that i opened it?
Hopefully some Techie here has already done it and knows the answer......... :).
No, but I can only speak for the models I am familiar with (see signature). After reading tons of posts on this forum I never recall this being a problem on any model.

I might have a strange question here. Strange as there might not be any working solution to it. But I think, if there is one, you guys would know it.
Okay, I want to create three Win7 OS on a disk partitioned into three primaries.
I would like these individual OS not to be able to reach eachother during use.
Sealed off from eachother so to speak.
Is this possible?
Second question. The second disk I have partitioned into three, each partition I want to link to each individual OS and have them sealed off from eachother as well.
IS this possible?
Illustration: disk 1 OS 1 --> disk 2 partition 1. disk 1 OS 2 --> disk 2 partition 2.
disk 1 OS 3 --> disk 2 partition 3.
Can these 3 systems with their coresponding linked partition on disk 2 be completely sealed off from eachother?
Thanks a million if anyone has the drive to answer me.
It is possible, using either permissions, or removing drive letters from Disk Management when in each OS, but I have to ask why anyone would need three of the same OS on one computer? Chances are, what you want to accomplish overall can be done in much more efficient, and cheaper methods.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/104611-multiple-win-7-os-linked-sealed-off-partitions.html
Hello, Are Asus p8z68-v MBs, either the box or the static bag, factory sealed? I started unboxing the components for my 1st build and the MB was the only thing that wasn't sealed. I watched a bunch of Asus MB unboxing videos last night and they don't seem to be. Thanks.
Don't know about THAT model, but in previous ASUS boards I purchased, the plastic bag containing the motherboard had a piece of tape holding it shut. To open the bag, you had to break or cut the tape.
If yours has no tape strip, maybe they just don't tape them anymore (cost savings??).
going thru hell here...........the windows 7 enterprise that was installed by the retailer on my HD is now apparently not genuine. I thought it had activated when i hooked the computer up to the web, have not had any issues for over three months now....yet the other day i get the black screen, and the popup message "windows not genuine" every hour this was a from a sealed win 7 ultimate case! are the counterfits getting that good that they are duplicating the black packaging and printed disc labels? how the hell does one get REAL windows 7! anyone had issues with best Buy ripping them off this way?
If you went to a legit dealer and have a sealed pack. I think that you are ok.

I had to print some photos at a CVS the other day and used a 15g thumbdrive to transfer the files. Felt trapped as I needed them printed right away and had to use the thumbdrive. Now when plugged into the laptop it shows 14g are sealed off with just 1 gig remaining. Avast scans of both are showing nothing, but I know something's up and I want to make sure the whole system is clean. Could I have already infected my laptop too?
I'll be standing by. Thanks in advance.

Got my copy of Ultimate 7. It was pretty cool actually. I attended a 7 Convention in Minneapolis, and all attendees received a free copy. Also cool, was that I learned a few things there about the OS, to which I previously was not privy..
One very cool feature that I did not know existed, is the 'record' program, or 'Record steps to reproduce a problem'. Open it, turn it on, and it will record everything you do until you stop it, and generate a handy file complete with screen shots of everything you just did. This is a very brilliant tool that I had not read about anywhere else, though it was probably mentioned a few times in these forums if I was inclined to search..
The other topics of interest were around branch caching, and how with 7 and IPv6, you can all but do away with the need for vpn. Very cool..
Some cool stuff. enjoy your copy.

As the title suggests - my invoice specifically says 3yrs warranty was purchased with my M3800 in November 2014. I'm now showing as out of warranty after 2yrs
I'm having issues with a screen that was replaced in May/June 2016 and would like a replacement as I believe the unit is faulty. Please can you get in touch to resolve.

ASUS A54C CUTS OUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY EVEN WITH REPLACEMENT BATTERY, IT COMES UP, ASKS FOR PASSWORD, AND CLOSES DOWN AGAIN AS THOUGH POWER HAS BEEN SWITCHED OFF.
Can you get into Safe mode?http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-vista/asus-notebook-will-not-remain-open-even-with-new-battery/13871.html
The battery can be placed in position, but the slider will not move to the closed position to ensure the battery will operate the computer without being supported by the charger. The battery charger shows the battery is 100% charged, but if you remove the charger, the computer shuts down instantly, even when the battery is taped into position. Although the battery is old, I am reluctant to purchase a new battery, as it might not function either, because it will not be in a locked position.
Hey @RuthQuilts, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP G62 Notebook and issues with the Battery. The only way to know, would be to borrow a battery from someone to test this theory out. That way you would know a new battery would fix this. Try a local repair shop. Please let me know.Thanks.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Battery-slider-stuck-in-open-position/td-p/5605046
I have a WinBook X1 with a dead internal LI battery. How do I open the case to replace the battery? I called WinBook and they said I would have to return it ($$) to have the battery replaced. I have thech savy to replace it, but don't want to force the case open. Can anyone point me to the magic spot to open the case?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
Shockingly none worked that I found.
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
Worked with an off brand battery also.
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.
Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!
Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.
Following the instructions on how to install and dual boot Ubuntu 16-04 with the existing Win 10 I changed the EUFI from RAID to ACHI. However, upon booting, access to the SSD was lost and with it, apparently, access to the EUFI. Hence, when turning the laptop on, the backlight for the keyboard comes on for awhile then goes dark followed soon after by the power. Nothing is displayed on the screen. So, it appears my laptop is bricked. Plugging in a Windows recovery USB drive doesn't appear to do anything and neither does plugging in a USB DVD drive with Ubuntu.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19981960
My laptop only 10 months old, on most of the time, never left the house, just sits on my desk connected to Dell docking station. Why is there so many problems with my new xps 13 (9350)? The BIOS wouldn't update automaticly and now the audio is not working.
This laptop was shipped to me 3 weeks ago. Can I return the laptop? Tech can't fix audio. I'm getting the run around.
"The BIOS wouldn't update automaticly and now the audio is not working"
You have to manually update the system setup( BIOS). Please click on link below to safely update BIOS:
Trying to downgrade from Win 10 to 7, and I can get the computer to boot off the USB, and start the installation. The problem arises when I get the error about not finding the CD/DVD drivers.
I have tried switching the USB drive to another port, turned off secure boot, turned off UEFI (tried it on), legacy, blah blah...
Good thread here, but I still have the issue
Has anyone a workaround I have not tried?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a dell xps 13. Can anyone tell me if I order the 8gb model with the i5 6200u FHD screen which comes with a 256gb SSD, can someone tell me what model of SSD this is? Is it a Samsung SM951 (uk model)? I understand it is PCIE based, but does the controller run in AHCI or NVME? I am thinking of putting a 950 pro in there (I understand these drives are nearly identical in terms of performance but I'd like to be able to use the Samsung magician software and turn on rapid mode and overprovisioning. has anyone used the samsung magician software with a 950 pro drive? is there any difference in real world performance between an ahci drive and a nvme drive under normal usage?
I have a XPS 13 9350 with an i7-6560U and 16GB RAM. I tried to watch a 4K video such as this one but it would stutter considerably. I've tried using Media Player Classic and VLC (with hardware acceleration turned on and off) with no success. Streaming 4K videos on YouTube presents no problems.
Is it supposed to be like this? If so then I am a bit disappointed. Even though it's an under-powered laptop CPU, I was still hoping the i7-6560U would have better performance than this.
My company recently had to purchase a few XPS with Can't 9350 Boot PXE 13 new laptops due to expansion and the XPS was no longer available so we were sold the XPS instead being assured that it is the same system and everything will be supported as was with the XPS I ran Can't PXE Boot with XPS 13 9350 through the normal steps in BIOS to ensure PXE Boot will work disable Secure Boot enable legacy boot options etc but when I hit F to try to Can't PXE Boot with XPS 13 9350 run a network boot I do not see the option in the Boot menu All I see is Windows Boot Manager and the Samsung SSD Has anyone else here had this issue and been Can't PXE Boot with XPS 13 9350 able to resolve it We are using the suggested StarTech USB S Ethernet adapters which Dell sold us Trying to deal with their customer support has proven to me why I HATE DELL with a passion Advised my boss to go with ASUS or Lenovo but she wanted to go with Dell because of a long business relationship You cannot get anyone that speaks clear English on the line you have to explain your issue times before you finally get someone that is able willing to help No one there seems to understand what I meant by PXE boot or kept telling me it is not allowed on their laptops
Thanks for the response. We did try all of the suggestions you pointed out, but nothing was able to get the Startech adapter to work. Not sure if it is related to both ports being USB 3.0 or not, but it seems that the Startech USB21000 does not work with the Dell XPS 13 9350.
I had to buy a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, and that went through with no issues. Also took about 1/2 the time the Startech adapter took which was a pleasant surprise.
Just received a refurbished Dell XPS 13 9350 and I have noticed the fan is almost constantly on. After about 5 minutes after booting into windows the fan will come on and stay on.
I've been monitoring my CPU temps and Fan speed.
CPU idles at 30c (86f) but fan is always on.
at about 34c (93f) the Fan will start and stay on 3600RPMat 50c (122f) the fan goes up to about 4400RPM
anything around 60c (140f) the FAn is on about 5000rpm
Any other dell xps 13 9350 owners experiencing this. is this normal??
I'd suggest you update system setup( BIOS) on your computer. Please click on link below:

I have just bought this Dell XPS 13 9350 within the past few months. One day the touchscreen started to constantly click on the screen, sometimes without stopping. The only way I am able to get this "ghost clicking" to stop is either restarting the laptop (hoping the problem doesn't persist)or, sometimes I get lucky by just pressing the touch screen on random spots and it seems to stop the clicking. Is this a hardware problem or can I somehow fix this problem other than messing with the hardware?
Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.
Please try the steps mentioned in the below link:
Please private message us the service tag of the system along with your email id with the results from the above steps.

After updating my XPS-13 to newest windows 10, each time I close its screen or push power button or click "Sleep" in Start->Power menu, it will go black for a little while and then wake up immediately.
In windows Event Viewer, I saw this error message every time above thing happens:
Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework : ESIF(8.1.10602.174) TYPE: ERROR
DPTF Build Version: 8.1.10602.174
In details tab, it says:

That will be great "if" it gets fixed. For now turning off hibernation seems to have gotten rid of the problem. I still the error codes in the windows event log but it doesn't prevent the laptop from sleeping or shutting down.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19662487
Updated system to lates BIOS as directed by Dell. Now the system will not shutdown. No matter the method to shut it down, the system will automatically restart. 'Any assistance???
Thanks for posting, you might try this:
Go into device manager -> system devices -> intel management engine interface, right click, search for new driver, and it found a new one and installed it.
Let's see if that fixes it. The one from dell is .1162, the one that device manager found is now .1166.
Post back if that doesn't work and let the experts here on the board answer. Thanks.

Can anyone recommend a good DVD burner?
At the moment I've got an NEC ND-3550A and while it was very good when it worked, now I've got a new setup it doesn't like me.
Is anyone able to recommend a good drive? My mobo has 6 SATA ports (two will each contain a 320GB Maxtor drive) and the IDE port will only have the burner. If I end up with a SATA burner then the IDE ports won't be used.
Many thanks in advance.
I have a packard bell club 75 system and the power has failed. I know it is definetly the PSU as I have another sys with the same PSU unit and I swapped them round to check first.
My question is this, I have a 230v PSU with output of 145w. They are difficult to get a hold of but would I need to get a PSU of this spec or can I upgrade to 250V without frying any components?
Thanx in advance
I have been steered to the HP Envy W2K89UA that comes with a 512GB M.2 SSD and from what i see there is another internal drive bay for an additional full size SSD drive can anyone verify. Or direct me to a unit that has this capabilities.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/In-need-of-a-new-unit/td-p/5849261
so i was wondering why my dell is always out of battery, and i found out that he wont shut down.
The Laptop always restarts upon shutdown.
So i googeled and tryed:
- Installing BIOS Version: 1.3.3 and the latest one.
- Turning the hibernation to 0
- Holding the Power Button down for a while.
I changed the PowerButton function to: Shut Do as well.
I do have Windows 10 64 Bit and am currently running the 1.3.3 Bios.
but nothing worked...
so can anyone here maybe help me?
Greetings and thanks for the help!
Hi I recently acquired a XPS and after having it working perfectly well in the BIOS I changed the SSD controller setting from RAID Intel SRT to AHCI After that obviously Windows did not load saying quot Inaccessible device quot because drivers were not updated but the computer booted normally I turned the computer off and after some hours I turned it on to continue no XPS not 13 9350 logo booting, updating it and it XPS 13 9350 not booting, no logo didn t even show the Dell logo It only makes a sort of quot blink quot with the keyboard lights and the screen both turning on for about a second and then turning off for about seconds and this continues forever No other signal no response of any kind I cannot tell whether that setting change could have made it not work but even if that was the case how can I restore the BIOS to the factory defaults or force it to use again RAID The other possibility is that I got a major hardware failure like a failing motherboard But again no clear way of how to diagnose Thanks for any commenthttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19988016
I for the life of me cannot seem to find any downloads for Quickset for my refurbished XPS 13 9350. I have tried other versions of Quickset but it does not allow me to install it due to an error during installation.
Correct, there are no quickset application downloads for the XPS 9350. What issues are you having with the computer?

I have try to install Windows 7 Pro on XPS 9350 but it keep show message
" A Required CD/DVD device driver is missing......"
SATA Operation > RAID on ( It would able to boot the installation disc but show message "A Required CD/DVD device driver is missing")
STA Operation > AHCI ( It unable to boot the installation disc but is show BSOD " The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant....." )
I call DELL Malaysia phone support and email also but no solution for above matter.
Really appreciate full support from DELL.
After days work i found the solution. You first need to update your BIOS to version 1.1.7 at downloads.dell.com/.../XPS_9350_1.1.7.exe. Then set Secure boot "Disabled", SATA Operation Default (RAID on), Advanced Boot Options to "Enable Legacy..." and Boot Sequence to "Legacy". After that make a bootable W7 USB stick with USB Download Tool at www.microsoft.com/.../windows-usb-dvd-download-tool.After that you have to make your USB stick USB3.0 compatible with the Windows 7* USB 3.0 Creator Utility at downloadcenter.intel.com/.../25476.After that you download these NVME driver at 1drv.ms/1Q39G8m to your USB stick. Boot it and browse to the folder where you have put your drivers and enjoy.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19664247
Hi I have an XPS 13 running on Windows 10.
My touchpad will freeze up every time I walk away from it for more than 10-15 minutes and the only way to unlock it is to reboot the computer.
Also, when it has gone to sleep and I wake it back up, it will not accept my PIN password. I have to reboot to sign in.
Anybody know how to fix this? I am getting very frustrated with what seemed to be a wonderful machine!
Hello there nbsp nbsp I have a new XPS with current BIOS and current Intel video drivers nbsp I can go into advanced settings and disable the CABC settings but this does nothing I saw the patch fix for this released earlier this year and downloaded it nbsp However on running it nbsp it keeps saying I don t have the current video drivers so it won t execute I have gone to Dell to 9350 won't XPS 13 QHD disable CABC ensure I do have the latest Within the patch XPS 13 9350 QHD CABC won't disable fix download I did find the CABC disable file and ran it independent of the installer and it instantly brightened my screen with no CABC issues but I couldn t turn up or down the screen intensity any longer and it was actually TOO bright so I rolled back to the previous setting nbsp I don t see many people with this issue and it s annoying nbsp Any ideas as to how to disable CABC once and for all Windows Anniversary Edition QHD screen I and GB RAM Intel Iris display driverhttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19992045

I recently got a new Dell XPS 13. I like it very much but I have one single issue with it.
It gets hot when plugged in. I installed latest drivers and bios firmware but it's still annoying.
The main problem is that I searched for fan problems over net, I saw people are complaining about fan being too noisy on XPS 13 but I hear absolutely nothing from laptop. and now I'm wondering if it has a fan and it's working.
How do I know that the fan is working?
Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on Dell XPS 9350. To be able to do that, I needed to install the usb 3.0 drivers (the laptop doesn't have any usb 2.0 ports and the usb 3.0 can't be change to usb 2.0 from the bios) into the Windows 7 installation on my usb stick.
The problem is that Windows can't identify the ssd. So I figured it was the motherboard chipset drivers that I needed to install, so that it could identify the nvme controller itself. The problem is that when I extract the driver, there are no .inf or .cab drivers. There are a lot of files without any extensions and basically the driver seems to be installable only on a functional installed operating system.
Any ideas how I could get a readable driver that I could browse to during the Windows 7 installer?
I don't see anything on the Dell downloads for this model for Win 7. They have Win 10 and Win 8.1 drivers. Even if you get Win 7 installed I doubt that all the devices on the laptop are going to work.
I've seen other try to install Win 7 on a new system that is not designed for Win 7 and of the ones I've seen none have been successful and give up and keep their original OS.
Best option, if you can return the Dell, is to buy one that has Win 7 or that you can backward install Win 7 on it (and all devices work).
A few weeks ago I got an XPS 13 laptops. And it's a great machine.
Except for an issue.
I have a PNY 128GB SSD connected to a Startech USB 3.1 interface with a type C USB connector.
When I plug it in, the system keeps recognizing it and then unrecognized it, ad infinitude. Windows chimes each time. The drive is unusable. Note that going via USB 3, it works fine.
I have installed all of the drivers an BIOS (1.4.3) updates and the latest Windows 10 updates. Note that I installed Dell's Serial IO driver, but every time I return to see if there are more drivers to update, the Serial IO driver needs updating again. It never seems to take.
Note that before the windows 10 updates, it was more stable.
Also if I boot to safe more is seems much better.
I have very little installed on the system. Only Microsoft stuff (office 365, OneDrive). It is a fresh install.
First time poster.
I have been reading up on the razer core, and other thunderbolt 3 external gpu cases. Does the latest version of the XPS 13 with an updated bios support external graphics over thunderbolt 3?
Unfortunately, this will not work on the xps13.
For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.
On a full keyboard, you can enter keycodes by pressing ALT and then entering s three digit keycode on the number pad and then releasing ALT. I use them all the time and have never had a laptop that couldn't enter them. I find some very old threads that say to turn on NumLock. Can't figure out how to do that on the XPS 13 9350.
How can I enter ALT keycodes on the XPS 13 9350? This borders on deal-breaker...
Still seeking an answer to this.
I found some relevant options in the BIOS, emphasis added:
POST Behavior | Keypad (Embedded)
This options lets you choose one of two methods to enable the keypad that is embedded in the internal keyboard.
Fn Key Only = The keypad is only enabled when you hold down the Fn key.
By Num Lock = The keypad is only enabled when 1) the Numlock LED is on, and 2) no external keyboard is attached
POST Behavior | Keypad (Embedded)
 Enable Numlock
This option specifies whether the NumLock function should be enable [sic] when the system boots.
I've tried all permutations of these options, and all manner of permutations of Fn, Ctrl, LeftShift combined with ALT+0133, say, and cannot get the thing to work the way PC laptops have always worked since, well, before Dell mattered.
Anybody know a way? What is it?
This is by far the biggest non-Microsoft problem I've had with this laptop. (Windows and Windows apps, like, say, Microsoft Office, still do not work terribly well with high DPI displays.)
Does anyone know what the differences between 9350-4846 AND 9350-5132 are?
Both seem to be an entry level i5 6200U, non-touch scr laptop.
Pricing is somewhat the same, but I want to go for the better bargain out of the two.
Thanks for your help,
Does anyone have this combination? Does XPS 13 9350 support DA200? I would like to have small adapter to get HDMI output from XPS but does it work? Or is there some other adapter that works?
Looking up the DA200, it doesn't list the XPS 13 9350 as a compatible device, listing only the XPS 12 9250 and the XPS 15 9550.
The Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 connects your mobile computer to an external display with your choice of HDMI or VGA outputs. You can also connect to the internet and all your necessary external devices via Ethernet and USB 3.0 ports. This small, compact adapter will replace up to 3 dongles, leaving you more space in your bag and on your desk. Supports Win 10 32/64 bit for Home and PRO.
Manufacturer Part# : YRPDK
Dell Part# : 470-ABNL
This product is compatible with the following systems:
XPS 12 (9250)
XPS 15 (9550)
I checked and it does look like the XPS 13 is compatible with the TB15 thunderbolt dock so that may be something that you should consider. Here is a document on setting up external displays with the TB15.
I just got this xps 13 (9350) developer version with pre-installed ubuntu 14.04.
When I resume, it gave me an error "suspend/failure" error. What goes wrong here?
Hello all I ve got massive problem to downgrade my XPS from windows to Windows Pro it s reqired by my company I ve had succesfully done downgrades before on XPS with samsung SSD drives but this one is with Toshiba SSD GB drive NVMe THNSN GPU NV and i just can t get it work I ve already successfully implemented requred hotfixes KB KB and USB drivers into windows setup files boot wim and install Installation 9350 Windows XPS 13 7 wim via DISM EXE Latpop is booting from USB propely but asks me to choose some extra drivers After i navigate to install Intel RST driver the drive toshiba is showing up when i choose browse But it still wants some extra drivers I ve trided installing almost every single driver form Dell web site availble for this PC but no luck So i can t get it to install Boot XPS 13 9350 Windows 7 Installation option set to UEFI Secure boot off Furthermore i ve copied XPS 13 9350 Windows 7 Installation the installation from USB Drive do Drive c and made it bootable so installation now boots form the hard drive XPS 13 9350 Windows 7 Installation but still it won t install and keeps askin for extra drivers
I confirm the problem. i have the same SSD m.2on my XPS 9550 (THNSN5512GPU7) and i can't detect the ssd with the kb integrated to the installer.
"Intel and Samsung offer a proprietary NVMe driver for their NVMe SSDs, but Toshiba does not. The XG3 utilizes the standard Microsoft NVMe driver that comes baked into Windows 8-10. This makes sense because the XG3 is an OEM SSD, and not needing an additional driver for best performance makes setup easier for OEMs."Read more: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7676/toshiba-xg3-1tb-2-nvme-pcie-ssd-review/index.html
It's over or not ?
My sound in warcraft 3 is having some problems. the music is fine. its just the responses from units and the fighting sounds that dont work. the "Unit Response" button in the Sounds option is on, as is sound effects and everything else. I have a soundblaster audigy 2 if it helps.
Make sure you get the latest drivers for your sound card, and the latest patch for WC3. If you've installed any custom mod's or anything, then reinstall WC3. Also, close any unnecessary background applications, and do a virus check, as well as a spyware check.
Did the sound effects ever work before?
Can you use Win 7 upgrade on another computer on the same In Home network or do I have to buy another box?
As use the same disc and activation code?
If so no,you would need another activation code, but you could use the same disc.
Hope that helps
I have a Netgear Duo RND200 NAS drive that has died after five years. It stopped becoming accessible suddenly, I'm unable to browse or access it's control panel. Additionally it won't shutdown when I hold down the power button for a few seconds, it remains on. It contains 2 x 1.5GB SATA hard drives that are RAID1. I'm assuming/hoping that the data is intact on one or more of the drives and want to take those into a new NAS, a D-link which is on order.
I've had a look at the user guide for the D-Link DNS-320L, it doesn't cover how to introduce drives with existing data onto a new NAS. Should this / is this possible?
Thanks very much.

I've been looking at GPS devices that are mounted in cars and give directions. Are there any of these devices one can get at lower cost that can interface with a laptop and do the same job just as well?
If so, where can I find them? All I see so far are stand-alone devices.

After upgrading to Windows 8, my CD/DVD unit (a Samsung - TSST corp CDDVDW Sh-S223L) will not be recognized unless a disc is inserted before boot. Then disc can be removed and new one inserted later.
Any assistance appreciated. Stephen
Sounds like driver issue. Suggest that you check out your dvd manufacturer's support site and see driver for windows 8.http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/11848-cd-dvd-unit-not-recognized.html
I've recently been looking into buying an eGPU Enclosure such as the AKiTiO Node or the Razer Core. I've updated all the firmware and now I am running Thunderbolt Software Version 126.96.36.1995. The Node and Core both specify that the computer needs to both have Thunderbolt 3 (which I have) and be compatible with external graphics. What does this mean? I have Thunderbolt 3, so wouldn't it be theoretically possible to run external graphics provided the firmware was up to date?
So in summary, my main question is this: Will/can the Dell XPS 13 9350 be able to use eGPU enclosures over Thunderbolt 3 now (or in the future if there is firmware updates being planned)?
Hi all I am playing DXD kHz FLAC files to a USB DAC and I am getting intermittent severe distortion which to me sounds like a USB transmission issue caused by DPC latency My configuration is as follows - Win Pro- jRiver MC - Chord Mojo connected over USB using Chord ASIO driver - alternatively AudioQuest Dragonfly downsampling samplerate to kHz I am getting the distortion with both DACs which would suggest a problem with the XPS HW or SW I have disabled quot Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power quot for Intel USB eXtensible Host Controller and for the USB Root Hub xHCI but that did not solve the issue Power Plan is set to high performance Under advanced settings 13 Severely - DAC XPS Audio 9350 distorted - USB I have set USB selective suspend setting to disabled DPC latency check and Latency Mon do not show any issue and list the PC as being capable of streaming real time audio The problem goes away if I chose the direct sound driver in jRiver It occurs identically if XPS 13 9350 - USB DAC - Severely distorted Audio I chose the ASIO WASAPI and Kernel streaming drivers The problem does not occur on an HP zbook u Does anyone else have a similar problem and has anyone solved ithttp://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19742876
I'm having this weird issue with my XPS 13 9350 screen. I just noticed it today and I've never seen anything like it. Its a little squiggly line towards the top right that looks like a mark on a dirty monitor, but that's clearly not what it is. Any ideas?
I was able to get this photo with my phone.
Kind of an info post amp a question My new Dell XPS touchscreen started to intermittently fail amp within a day or it completely fault touchscreen 9350 XPS Dell 13 gave up I Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen fault also noticed that there was no touchscreen device in Device Manager under HID section nor any mystery USB devices there an Internet search Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen fault reckoned it could be a power problem I did notice though that under USB Devices section there was a mystery device that said quot Unknown USB Device Device Descriptor Request Failed Called Dell Support who informed me that since it was purchased from a UK retailer I wasn t eligible for Dell support So I called PC World They took me through a step which I d already tried uninstall amp reinstall mystery USB devcie but this time it worked - touchscreen appeared in HID section amp mystery USB device vanished Hung up the phone moved laptop then the touchscreen failed again This time on loading Device Manager it was unusable Device Manager kept refreshing over amp over again but I did have time to see that again touchscreen had vanished from HID amp the mystery USB with same message appeared in USB Devices This time though the USB device would vanish amp then the screen refresh nbsp A bit more Google searching revealed that a touchscreen is effectively a mini USB device amp I wondered if the issue I was having was due to an intermittent connection It would explain the constant refreshing of Device Manager since it was like something being connected amp disconnected constantly A final recovery to factory settings amp problem still persisted so I concluded it was a hardware issue As it was only weeks old I was offered a refund since no more stock amp I m now awaiting delivery of the new XPS from Dell I m a bit concerned that this happened amp curious if this is a common feature of touchscreens amp if it was to happen again to my new model is there an easy fix once out of warranty Hope the above helps somebody with a similar problem
Rather unfortunate you had to face issues with a new system.
Even if the system was purchased from PC World, if the order was shipped with Dell warranty, then it does hold good with Dell to get a service call on the system.
Regarding the LCD issue - I suppose it might have been a loose LCD cable issue that was causing the intermittent touchscreen functionality and even more that it would work / stop working when the LCD is moved.
Reseating / replacing the LCD cable (unless part of the assembly in certain models) should ideally resolve such issues.
Hope the 9360 model brings you good experience.
