Preferred Solution: Should i hard reset my phone after a update?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Should i hard reset my phone after a update?

There's no real need to hard reset after an update unless you have a problem that needs a hard reset.

If 8.1 can i get again update from windows insider to 10586.494?
And if that after reset win10m can i again update for 10586.494?
Thank you

If your build is 10586.494,then you are not an insider.
However,if you do a hard reset, you will still have windows 10 on your device

I have a Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 Core) and i am trying to factory reset to the default settings again because of the stupid problems i am having on the tablet.
Here is the problem i am trying to get into the BIOS which is the 1 step on the Acer website but for some bizarre reason when it is completely off i press the Windows button and the power button to get in to the BIOS as it says on the Acer Website but it keeps going to the start menu/desktop now instead of going to the BIOS. :/

common errors affecting windows 7 and 8 users for a last few days. At present there is no concrete solution for this but you could perform another hard reset, check for system date and time if they are correct. Hi
Windows Fast Ring most recent update yesterday on Lumia 435 mobile.
Now no keyboard,.
I need to get to About to activate reset this phone.

I used to type in About in Settings search. What other way is there to get to About, or another way to reset.
Do I need to revert back to Windows 8.1 then upgrade back to Windows 10.
Looking for the best way...if no other way to get to About.

Thanks
Gary

Yes. A factory restore will remove everything and set it back to the way it was when you purchased it.

I tried giving Windows Mobile a fair chance but it felt sluggish and I didn't like the interface so I decided to revert back to Windows Phone on my Lumia with Windows Device Recovery Tool Although I backed up everything I was missing about apps games which I guess wasn't too surprising What I find odd though is that my phone longer previously-installed compatible no Phone reset. is after with apps will no longer recognize the apps that are installed on my SD card It knows something is there but they are listed under quot Other quot in Phone is no longer compatible with previously-installed apps after reset. Storage Sense When I try to set my phone to install new downloads to the SD card it tells me that I have to first let it remove all installed apps because they belong to a different phone even though the phone hasn't changed If I try manually re-downloading my missing apps through the web site because they don't show up in the phone's store I am unable to do so because my phone is apparently no longer compatible with them even though they are supposed to work with Windows Phone according to the System Requirements An example of one such app http www windowsphone com s appid b a ec - - ea -a - ca f c At this point I don't really know what to try I don't want to completely lose access to all of these apps games that I use especially the ones I have paid for For what it's worth my OS version number is I can't update beyond that without going back to Windows Mobile If you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it I tried asking this on the official Microsoft support forum but all they said is that it's normal to have to reinstall apps after resetting which doesn't address my issue in any way

A:Phone is no longer compatible with previously-installed apps after reset.

Various issues.... some apps may have been updated to a newer version that isn't available on the older version of windows. Another being that maybe the app didn't correctly update the info in the store, improperly showing that 8.1 is still compatible. Also, apps can be set per device/carrier/region.
All I can suggest is copying what you want from the card (pics, music, etc), then formatting it . You should be able to set the SD card for app installs again. As for the apps that will not allow you to install again at all.....you may be out of luck there.

Hi,
on a no-problem notebook of a Relative, win ran an update last night at 4 and came up with this:
Most App-Links are gone, Apps still there.
But Firefox, Outlook and others seem completely reset as if freshly installed, no accounts set f.e.
Win demands hardware driver installation for Wifi.
And a bunch of personal files on the Desktop are gone.

Please point me to the right direction before i start to act there.

I've found that the first set of Windows 8 updates takes forever to get past 0% Downloading. Just let it go for a couple hours.

Someone on Reddit described it as:

New installations of Windows 8 update certain system files in the background. The foreground "update" app can't get a lock on the update repository, so it just hangs until the background updating is done. It usually takes a couple of hours. Just wait it out.

Dear Microsoft team,
I have owned the Lumia 950 with Win 10 phone OS for hardly 2 weeks now. The first update after I initialised the phone made the phone crash frequently. The latest update causes the wifi to switch off and only restarting the phone will result in a reconnection,
which does not last long, however. If I let the phone go to sleep I won't have a connection, unless I restart. I must say that I begin to find this annoying, to say the least. I switched to windows phone from Android and am not used to glitches like that.
It would be helpful, if a restore function were available, like on win10 for pc, so that in case of a problem, the stable version could be used until you can fix issues.

Thank you

The mobile W10 Anniversary Update downloaded automatically to my Lumia phone. An article in Windows Central says it is very similar to the PC version, not only under the hood but with many of the same new features. Well Icannot see anything different to what was there before. As I had WAU running a few hours on my PC I dabbled with new features, such as the revamped Store, Inking Workspace and apps, Edge extensions (yippee!) and modified Start. For the brief time I had them I thought they were quite good. BUT there is nothing like them on my phone!

When you go to Devices and Printers it is listed there as MTP and under Properties > Hardware it says Android Composite ADB Interface, with Manufacturer: Google and "The device is working properly". 'Google' is correct because it's a Nexus 4.

Other than that it's not recognizing the phone and it's not in Explorer.

Hi there I finally got the Anniversary Update to my Lumia today and I was excited to fine tune the notification anniversary on both get PC phone /w both? and do my I Why the on same update notification installed settings From what I heard read I was expecting to only get one notification per event as there is an option to quot Upload notification from this PC to the cloud quot in my PC's Cortana settings under quot Edit Sync Settings quot with the description of quot This helps prevent getting the same notification twice quot I was expecting something like getting a facebook or e-mail notification on my PC when it's turned on and not getting it on my phone since that counts as duplicate I Why do I get the same notification on both my phone and PC /w anniversary update installed on both? just simply want to get stuff on my PC when I'm using it and not on my phone However I always get the same notification twice for example for the facebook app installed both on my PC and my phone I tried google-ing the thing but didn't got anywhere Is there something I misunderstood or I configured wrong or simply this isn't how this feature works Should I try playing around with this feature or just simply disable a bunch of notification on my PC and others on my phone

I have Lumia 950XL. I understood that the Anniversary Update allowed phone notifications on the PC, but Settings<Notifications does not have a "Windows Phone" option as I've seen in other posts to get this set up. Is it possible to set up notifications / sync with my Lumia with the Anniversary Update and, if so, how?

Keep it plugged and under wifi coverage. Which Windows build you got? check it out in Settings -> info
Let we know your Win10 build, that's important

I assume there was an update to Win 10 last night. Woke up this morning to find all my tweaking to the OS over the last several weeks was erased! Back to new born state. All my programs are still here but every single setting that I have checked so far has been set back to "start". Its as if I finished the upgrade to Win 10 5 min. ago.

Any one else have this happen?

I am also having this issue, and it is driving me mad. It doesn't appear to happen to all of my settings, but enough to be truly disruptive: registry tweaks that I've made are reset, power management settings on wireless card - all sorts of settings are back to default after an update.

If there is any way to prevent this from happening, I would love to know what it is.

I need to run a hard reset on an Pavillion notebook as it won't start up at all/slowly. If I do this will it delete any saved files on the notebook as my daughter has all her exam work on it.Thx

A:Hard Reset

A reset will delete all of the files on the notebook. It is not a hard reset. that is something different. Have you tried booting to the usb recovery media that you should have created by now?If you do that, you can use Windows system restore to resolve the issue.  Do you see it below the Precautions heading in the image? Windows System refresh will also fix the issue without deleting any personal files.

It was a struggle to get the phone to update in the 1st place, requiring many soft resets and possibly turning battery saver off. So now it tells me it has successfully downloaded and installed 2 updates, but the settings tile and one other are now gone from the start screen. Just gone, not replaced by another feature. Hi there

Samsung S5 users on some networks (Vodafone and associated carriers) will find that after the 5.0 Android updates things like links in email / internet will fail with messages like "Vodafone update unexpectedly stopped" and the application will end.

Vodafone is of course 2,000,000% useless on their call centres.

What you need to do is whether or not you backed up first -- INSTALL KIES / KIES3 for Samsung S5 on your PC --it works on W10.

BACKUP your phone

Do a complete system reset

Restore.

Ok people,
just a little tip to get you to 8.1 a bit quicker after a factory restore back to W8.

You do not need the Net framework updates/browser choice or malicious software removal tools KBxxxxx's,
about 25 approx.

Roy

A:factory reset to 8 update to 8.1 little tip

Before upgrade to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store, you do not need to install all Windows 8 updates from Windows Update. You only need to install KB2871389 update, then you?ll be able to install the Windows 8.1 update via the Windows Store. But if you've opened the Windows Store and you don't see the Windows 8.1 update, then you will need to also install KB2917499 update.

Take a look at this post: How to if you have Windows 8.1 update 1 installed

Hi,I seem to have corrupt bios.  I was setting up the system with Xubuntu 16.04 so I went into the bios settings to change it from "Legacy" to "UEFI with CMS" after I saved it and rebooted it went to a blank screen with the backlight on.  Since then I've gone through the hard reset proceedures posted here using the external method with both of the bios versions posted. So far nothing has worked but it is accessing the usb drive and the screen backlight does come on and off but only in the early stages of the process.  After that, nothing! I've tried holding the "win" key and "b" for several minutes so I'm fairly sure I'm not letting go too early.  No flashing lights or beeps! So is this the right proceedure?  Any suggestions?

A:PC will only boot after hard reset.

Wow, sounds like you've essentially swapped in a brand new computer.

You didn't put jumpers on the hard drive, did you? I've heard of that messing up SATA drives. Poke around the BIOS and mess with the drive settings, including raid configs that might not exist. it definately sounds like a BIOS problem related to your hard drive.

That does seem like a royal pain though.

I shut down my laptop today and went shopping. When I came home, it wouldn't turn on. This has happened a couple of times before and I've tried giving it a hard reset. I tried turning it on without the battery and just the power cord and nothing. The light where the power cord goes in is on when it is plugged in. I tried everything and still won't start. My warranty for this laptop is gone and don't know what else to try. Please help!

A:Won't start. Tried hard reset and everything

Hi @krakaholyknight, Thank you for your query. I am happy to lend a helping hand. To confirm that I have the correct product, yours is a HP Stream Notebook-11-d007na? I understand that your notebook was working when you shut it down. When you tried turning it on again it would not start. This has occurred a couple of times before and a hard reset  resolved the issue. You tried removing the battery but that did not help. You do see a light on the power port when connected to AC power.  Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10). Please let me know the outcome. If this has helped you to resolve the issue, please click on "Accept as Solution" on said post. If I make a hard reset to my phone, will be deleted also the content of the memory card?

A:Hard reset WM10

If you initiate from the settings menu you will be asked whether or not to erase the SD card. If you initiate using the key combination from a phone that will not start, I don't know what the default behavior is. I suggest you remove the card before using the key combination just to be safe.

Is there any way to disable a hard reset of a laptop (i.e. holding the power button down for five seconds)? Could one use C sharp or something like this to achieve this goal? Any help would be appreciated.

A:Disable Hard Reset

There's usually a setting in the BIOS to control this behavior. In XP and Vista you can adjust the settings for the Power button in the Control Panel...Power Options applet.

Hi, I've been working on a computer that has had a lot of recent issues with its hard drive, and I'm getting tired of trying to fix it with the computer utilities. Could I have a link to instructions on how to completely reset my hard drive, erasing everything on it? The computer is a Dimension 8250 and doesn't have a warrantee any longer, nor does it have anything valuable on it, although I could easily transfer the few remaining files that I would like to keep onto another computer. I also have the XP boot disc, so I should be ready to do this. Thks.

A:Reset Hard Drive

Hi .

If "reset" means delete everything...

You can just use the XP CD...to delete everything on any drive, before creating a new partition/formatting/installing XP.

Microsoft working on 'Apollo+' update for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft is allegedly working on an update to Windows Phone, called Apollo+. This will be a minor '.1' update that will add some of the features missing in the initial release, such as support for VPN networks and OTA updates. It will also include bug fixes for issues such as Wi-Fi connection bug. Microsoft reportedly ran out of time for the initial release of Windows Phone 8, due to which they had to leave out features such as a notification center. You can expect to see these features roll out gradually in future updates for Windows Phone 8.

Good thing, hopefully, this update will arrive sooner than I was expecting.

In related news, WinPho 7.8 may arrive this week.

hey guys. i really need some help, fast!!

ok, so i made the fatal error of updating to iOS 4.3.1 (the latest one, im sure it's that) and it has destroyed my phone and it won't let me restore: i am getting error 1031 (restore error)

i had a look at another way to restore it: http://thetechjournal.com/electroni...-to-ios-4-0-1fix-itunes-1004-1015-error.xhtml

only difference is, i downloaded the 4.3 restore version, the version i'm sure my SHSH blobs will be (correct me if i'm wrong, im not sure on that point)

if anyone can please help it would be awesome. kinda need my phone to be a phone and not a 400 paper weight again really fast!!

quick note: it fails at the point the progress bar in iTunes is saying "Restoring Phones Firmware" - it happens on just clicking the restore button and doing it the way the link suggests

My stupid LG cell phone is listed along with may harddrives in windows explorer. As far as I can tell, it serves no function being there, but whenever I accidntally click on it, explorer crashes. How can I remove it?

A:LG cell phone listed along with hard drives - causing crashes...

When you first plugged it in, I would think Windows Update installed a driver. Maybe you should see if LG has software for it. The phone should show up as a removable device, in explorer. My Windows phone does.

It may or may not be the best idea, but it can be uninstalled in Device manager. But I believe it should show up when connected. But, as I said, it can be uninstalled. Right click the LG phone and select uninstall. I would try the Update Driver first, though.

A:Solved: Windows 7 update reset everything?

looks something went wrong with your user profile.

is user account control enabled?
try to reboot the system and log in with your user account.

also check in the users folder on your C drive if there are any other user folders except for your userfolder, default user folder and public.

oh, and if nothing of the above makes sense you can just restore to an earlier restore point using system restore.

I have checked services to make sure it was turned on.

I tried to upload a snipit to show you the error but for some reason it wont let me download it Argh! It should have downloaded.

I have a laptop G780 with intel i7 CPU, and 8 G RAM, and it is working very slowly. When I bought it, it was with another version of windows, and now I have windows 10.I need to reset to factory setting, and reinstall windows. I wanted first to update the security copy of OneKey, but I get a message that it would need 573 GB, and there is no enought place, while the original settings made the partition to 25 GB, and I can't change the destination where is should be inside the computer. So my questions are:1- How to update this security copy?2- If I couldn't do that, the last one was in april 2014, when I bought the computer, would that re-install the old version of windows?Best regards,

Hi, folks.

I appreciate the tutorials here (as always), but my head is swimming in all the variations. So, I hope you don't mind me getting straight to the point.

Facts:
I am running Win 8.1 Update 1 & want to wipe my C drive and re-install Windows.I originally purchased Win 8 Pro during the introductory UPGRADE (from Win 7) offer; so, I have a Win 8 ISO & product key.

Question:
May I use the reset option in Win 8.1 Update 1 to...
wipe my C driveinstall / activate Win 8 using my ISO on an external USB driveupdate to Win 8.1 & Update 1 from the App Store

It's a shame MS is making this so complicated now-a-days. hehe.

TYIA!

just get a Windows 8.1 with Update 1 ISO dude, why go through all this updgrading from 8 to 8.1 then to 8.1.1

its very time consuming and leaves a lot of leftover garbage

nothing beats a clean install

I have the ISO for Windows 8.1 with Update one and Windows 8.1 Core/Pro directly from MSDN Hashes verified

but I can't post them here or I will get b4nn3d

Hi I'm having trouble with my Dell XPS 9550. I'm currently running Windows 10 Pro and since late August my laptop will not install the cumulative updates Microsoft puts out. It begins to install it and after an hour it gets to 100% and then says update failed uninstalling update and it stays like that for another hour. I've contacted Microsoft over the issue and everything they've tried won't work. I've tried resetting Windows 10 and that fails, reinstalling Windows from a disc image fails, everything fails. I've searched for hours trying to find a solution trying different Commands and system checks in the command prompts and nothing will work.

A:Laptop won't update, reset, or backup.

Similar problem with Dell XPS 8300 (Win 7 converted to 10).  For months it's been the spinning wheel on a black screen that won't complete. Usually resolved by restarting many, many times. Neither Dell nor Windows diagnostics suggest a problem. A particularly persistent set of hangups occurred yesterday. This morning, a restart has produced a persistent gray "Getting windows ready, don't turn off your computer" screen. I'll see where it goes.

Okay so first off I have an HP Pavillion g Notebook PC with a GB hard drive I believe it is around three years old now Until this past Friday I was running Windows on it now its running Windows This is going to be kind of a reset? Windows after a won't update system long post but I think all of the info is relevant to Windows won't update after a system reset? my problem Over the course of the past few months I'd occasionally have start up issues after updates installed I'd shut down the computer and it would install updates but when I'd turn it back on it would get stuck on the screen with the hp logo Windows won't update after a system reset? and the spinning ball or whatever its called I always ended up having to just manually hold the power button down and shut it down that way I think I even let it go for an hour once before resorting to holding down the power button to turn it off When I would shut it down this way it would get stuck on the hp screen again when I'd turn it back on I had to restart it while button mashing F to get to quot Troubleshoot quot and from there I think I usually did a quot Startup Repair quot and that would make it start normally again from what I remember However this last time Windows installed updates and I went through the whole process again the startup repair didn't work and I ended up trying a system restore which didn't work either so after that I tried a system refresh while keeping all my files After installing updates I attempted to upgrade to Windows which failed giving me this message quot Sorry we couldn't complete the update to Windows We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC xC - x quot Anyways along with not upgrading to my laptop was running incredibly slow so I just did a full system reset So here I am now after waiting about seven hours for it to reset Things seem to be running okay for now Mind you sometimes CPU Disk or Memory usage will shoot up around - when I'm doing absolutelty NOTHING to warrant it and then the fan starts running like its trying to put out the fires of hell--this is really annoying Processes in particular that are using lots of resources are Windows Modules Installer Worker TiWorker exe and Host Process for Windows Services svchost exe I'm not really sure what what either of those do but I don't remember my Laptop running this hard when I got it But the main issue I'm facing now is that Windows won't update Whenever I go to Windows Update it tells me to quot Restart your PC to finish installing updates quot I've restarted it around four times now Mind you one time updates did install but its still saying to restart for updates to finish and also there's no way those were all the updates I did a reset there should be way more Based on the information I've given what do you guys think the problem is and how do I solve it I want Windows back on my Laptop and I don't feel comfortable using it if there are updates that need installed If you need more information let me know Also before anyone offers any suggestions you should know I'm not that familiar with the BIOS or Secure Boot or any of this stuff If I'm gonna be going deep into the system to do some serious troubleshooting I'm going to need some serious guidance cause I have no idea what I'm looking for in there This isn't really my thing so please give detailed instructions Finally what should I do if my computer gets stuck on the hp screen again Is holding the power button down my only option at that point Please answer this I rarely see anyone address this question That's pretty much it I know this is a long post but I wanted to be detailed Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Hey so I have an on update reset Desktop/settings odd configuration -- I have one hard drive for Windows Software C and one for all files and stuff A Under my USER file I replaced the locations of Desktop/settings reset on update all the main folders Desktop My Pictures My Documents etc to A Users Everin etc instead of being on C Users Everin etc This is something Windows supports really obviously by letting you right-click on quot My Documents quot then go to quot Location quot and change it to another location However upon auto-restarting from an update while I was asleep it decided to quot Prepare Desktop Desktop/settings reset on update quot and then when it was fully booted my entire user account was blank There was a default theme no shortcuts on desktop or start bar all program history wiped from Start menu It was usable but right when I tried to fix anything restore old file locations I got the following issues After restarting any number of times it says quot Preparing Desktop quot again and these issues have appeared - the desktop loaded as completely black with no images and going to Personilize I cannot choose ANY windows themes It says quot This theme cannot be applied to the desktop Try clicking another theme quot I can't get it to display any desktop images - I cannot change the default desktop items My Computer Network Recycle Bin No matter what I do all of the icons are there and cannot be turned off - I cannot install any programs Chrome disappeared couldn't reinstall it - I cannot drag files between folders but I can copy-paste them Under quot Previous Versions quot on my C drive it will let me explore previous versions of the past two days but it won't let me restore the drive entirely I'd like to do this given my whole computer is freaking out for unknown reasons I'm doing a virus and spyware scan but I don't think that's what went wrong I don't want to reinstall right now so I hope there's another solution So like I said every single time I restart into the main user account quot Everin quot it says quot Preparing Desktop quot and messes everything up in all manner of ways Creating a new user account seems to have stopped all of these issues in using Windows in general However the old user account that is broken is ALSO the default Admin account that I somehow renamed Under C Users I have quot Administrator quot and quot Everin quot When I access and modify quot Everin quot it acts as if it is the ORIGINAL Admin account it cannot be deleted in the user account panel but under the user accounts panel there is ONLY quot Everin quot and quot Guest quot -- the quot Administrator quot folder under C Users is connected to NO profile yet cannot be deleted either has a padlock on it can't be deleted I don't know what that's all about I'm gonna try to just live with this new user account and ignore the old account but I can't delete it and there's obviously something deeply wrong with it that I don't know how to fix

A:Desktop/settings reset on update

I tried to delete the old admin account, but the computer says built-in accounts cannot be deleted.

After restarting, the original account is still completely ruined -- hardly functions, doesn't load desktop/theme, didn't load transparency, can't install files, etc. It also constantly links itself to C:\Users\TEMP because it is broken.

The new account works fine, but I want to find a way to fix the other account. It cannot be deleted, so I can either just ignore it or find a way to fix it.

A:Reset Windows (XP) Update History

You can uninstall Windows Updates from the Add/remove programs applet in Control Panel. Any that have been applied to your system should be listed there.

If you formatted and reinstalled you may not have done any updates yet. If you reinstalled over the top of the previous install it may have "broken" previous updates by replacing their files with older ones.

Which way round did you do it?

When Windows 7 completes an update all of my icons are moved to the left side and some are missing. I set everthing back to the way I had it. I don't know if this is connected to the problem, but I will place the computor in the "Sleep Mode", then when I wake it up I get the message, "Please wait while widows configures your desk top." This just started about 2 weeks ago. I have set Windows to inform me of new updates before they are download and installed.
I have never seen this before, hope someone knows have to fix it.

Thanks

Do you have a System Restore point before this began? I would revert to it now.

If not run SFC /SCANNOW Command.

In addition run a few Startup Repairs to see if it finds anything.

I've tried the hard reset 3 tines, I've replaced the battery with a new one, and still my laptop will not turn on. The white led light starts out white while plugged in, then turns amber, then turns white after a few minutes and starts blinking. If I attempt to power on the laptop while it's plugged in, the led light turns off and does not turn back on until I take the battery out, put it back in and plug the ac adapter in again. Nothing turns on, no fans and no keyboard lights. The only sign of power is the led light. Help please!
