I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

My Satallite R830 won't turn on.

The power symbol flashes orange 8 times then pauses and restarts. there are 6 quick flashes followed by a longer one on the 7th flash then another quick one. The wireless symbol is lit up (orange) all the time.

If I unplug the laptop and take out the battery and hold the restart button for 30s then without the battery plug in the charger the flashing stops and the power symbol goes green, until I try turning it on, it has a split second where it sounds like it's booting up then stops and the orange flashing resumes.

Same thing happens if I unplug the ac adaptor and the battery and then tried the above but with the battery and no ac charger.

I have tried with another adaptor (same amp and volt output).

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

>6 quick flashes followed by a longer one on the 7th flash then another quick one

If the power supply microcontroller detected an error the DC IN lamp sends a blinking code.
The short means 0 and long means 1.
I your case this means: 0000 0010

Since error code starts with LSB (least significant bit) you have to read it from behind
0000 0010 -> 0100 0000 -> 40 H (hex)
Now you will need to know what 40 H means

According to some details which I found in internet, the 40H could be the S3V output fault. (S3V voltage is over 3.47V)

However, such errors are mostly related to motherboard problem (internal circuit problem) and from my point of few only part replacement would fix this error.

Hi folks,

I write here because I've a problem...
My Satellite PRO 4600 of 2002 doesn't turn on anymore.
It shows a flashing amber light when I press the Pwr On switch...
I'm an electrotecnic, so you can explain me the problem.... thanks :)

Davide

A:Satellite Pro 4600 amber light flashing if I press the power switch

It sounds like a mainboard problem?

Try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and the battery. Now try it again.

Does this happen if with battery and/or AC adaptor?

When I plug in the AC adapter (and I've tried several) the battery indicator LED rapidly blinks green. No fans, no CD drive or hard drive movement. It's just DEAD.

The 30 second power button trick did not help and Google didn't tell me anything about the flashing green plug LED.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Standard : 4,096 (2,048 + 2,048) MB

I put 2 bank of 4G of Kingston ram ( 8G total amount) (1600 MHZ) but the system (windows 10) crashes after bios Boot ( and bios sees the correct amount of ram).

Maybe the sytem doesn't support the 1600 mhz frequency?

is possible to change frequency of Bus by bios?

Hi

On this virtual way it is not possible to offer some precise diagnostic. All you can do is to disconnect AC power supply, remove battery and leave it for a while. Then press power button and hold it for 15 or 20 seconds.
After doing this connect AC power supply and try to start it again.

What happen when you do this?

Hi.

I just wonder to upgrade CPU on my laptop to get some perfomance.
I have done upgrade RAM to 8 gb and 64bit Win7.
Now processor is i3-370M (3M cache, 2.40 GHz).

I'm pretty sure I can upgrade to i3-390M Processor (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz), but it will be IMO pointless.
There is same Cache and just a bit faster clock of CPU:

A:CPU upgrade on Satellite Pro C660-219

>I need someone to answer for question: may I fit to this laptop any i5 or i7 without trouble with compability with motherboard?
You have to know that CPUs upgrades are not supported by any notebook manufacturer. This means that nobody can say if an CPU would be fully compatible and would not cause any troubles. Such upgrades are own risk.

You could read this Toshiba statement regarding upgrades.
[Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm]

The point is that even the chipset which is part of the motherboard would support the new CPU, the BIOS could not be fully compatible and the combination of BIOS and new CPU could cause new troubles.

The unit seems to support the INTEL HM55 chipset and from my knowledge the Toshiba Satellite C660/C665/Pro C660 Series is based on a Dual Core/Quad Core Processor ( *Intel Arrandale* processors)

So if you want to search for a compatible CPU, you should check the CPUs belonging to the Intel Arrandale processors family.

Untl now I didn?t make some experiments with Win8 but I think there should not be problem if you use Win7 drivers.

Create recovery DVD and make test with Win8. If you don?t like it or you will see that there are problems with drivers, tools or utilities installation you can install recovery image again using created recovery DVD.

I think you are the first one with Win8 and it will be nice if you can make short report about all this. It will be interesting to read your experience about it.

Hi,

How can I do?

I just have to activate the license of Windows 7 before moving to Windows 10 , in free mode .

Thank you!!!

If you formatted the HDD before creating an recovery disk, then you will not be able to recover the notebook back to factory settings.

In such case you have two options:

1) you will use an Microsoft installation disk in order to install Windows 7 (you need valid serial key and licence from MS)
or
2) you will order the recovery disk from Arvato service: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/

equipped with Windows 7 and since the pc crashed often I decided to restore it to its factory settings. But unfortunately I have no cd recovery and I no have a copy of the dvd windows 7 so I can not restore it.
Also my PC deleted all previous restore points to 2015 so even with this procedure I will have no improvements.
I went to the Microsoft website to download a copy of Windows 7, but by entering the product key tells me that I contact the manufacturer Toshiba.
What I could use is the recovery discs for Windows 7 to restore the notebook to its factory settings,
thanks a lot,
I expect a fairer your feedback.

Hey Guys,

I've been having an on and off issue with my touchpad for at least a couple of months now. I've tried doing the function +F9 thing with little effect. I also re-downloaded the synaptics driver which seems to make it work for a little while but then it started working only sporadically.

Currently my touchpad works some of the time, if it fails at first pressing Ctrl Alt Del and then Esc seems to make it work for a little while longer but after that it simply stops working. I'm a student and not having a fully functioning laptop is often a great hindrance so any help would be great.

A:Satellite Pro C660 - on and off issue with the Touchpad

Hi

My first question is: when did you notice this touchpad issue.

I mean, the Sat Pro C660 is an older notebook and if this issue did not appear from first day of purchase, then something has affected the touchpad functionality in the past.

The question is: is there something wrong with software or maybe touchpad module.
I think this can be answered only settings the notebook back to factory state.
If you recover the notebook using Toshiba recover disk, you will get exactly the same state like at the first day of purchase.

If touchpad would still not work properly, well then there is some hardware problem

A:Is Satellite C660-162 compatible with Windows 8?

Hello

In my opinion such question should be asked before Win8 installation. More about Win8 instalation on Toshiba notebooks you can read on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8-message/
There you can check support for your notebook model > Toshiba Compatibility Matrix. Check it.
>... I heard that windows 8 can damage the computer if it's not compatible with it
I don't know what kind of damage you mean but generally speaking you can install any OS and check if and how it works.

Only thing that will be damaged is HDD recovery option so I hope you have created recovery disc before you have installed Win8 version.

If you have more questions you are welcome.

This means that keyboard controller is OK and the internal keyboard is faulty.
To fix this keyboard issue, the internal keyboard should be replaced.

Hi guys I wonder if anyone could help please.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2DR laptop which seems to be faulty (just out of warranty).
Everything worked fine until we came to switch it on one morning and found the screen remains off (black screen). There is no output through the VGA as I have tested it on an external monitor.

The CPU fan spins for a couple of seconds and then switches off.
There is no hard drive read/write sound either. The power LED remains lit. I have removed the hard drive to access the data on another system which worked fortunately

. I have also removed the RAM, battery and optical drive but there is still no output on the screen.

Does it sound like a faulty motherboard?
The laptop appears to be in excellent condition.

Is there anything else I can try please? I would be very grateful for any advice.

A:Satellite Pro C660 does not boot no screen

Yes, this sounds like faulty motherboard or an part of motherboard like RAM or CPU.
You said you have already removed the RAM but did you use an good tested RAM module?

Theoretically it could be just an RAM problem but in worst case you will need to replace the motherboard and I think this would be really expensive repair.

Hello,

My HDD has died, so i decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660-1D9 to an SSD.
I made a bootable USB with Win8, and booted just fine.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD so i can proceed with the install.
SSD shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows install.
It says there's a driver missing.

I downloaded AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even then, after selecting the only driver that appears, it says no new devices found.

I tried changing SATA mode from AHCI to Compatibility mode and it's the same..

What can i do?

Thanks for the help.
Best regards,
Bruno Moreira

A:Can't install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HDD

Older Windows XP required an AHCI driver from Intel but I think this isn?t a missing SATA driver issue because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers in order to recognize the HDD or SSD drive.
Furthermore the OS installation should be possible even if the driver would not be added... for this procedure you have to use the "compatibility mode".
As you said, the compatibility mode did not work too, so I think there is another problem.

However, Toshiba driver page provides also an Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver (Windows 8 - Upgrade) which you could try to add while OS installation.

But I?m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Did you try to format the SSD drive using another computer and then to install Win 8?
Try it out.

I have recently had Microsoft Technical Assistance reinstall Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I find it most offensive that Toshiba are unable to supply the Original Windows Activation code for the Laptop which was bought with the operating system pre-installed.

The Windows "Identification" label has long since perished.

No back up disk was supplied nor ever made, and there were no instructions nor inferences that it was imperative to create such.

It is not only preposterous but TOTALLY WRONG that one should be expected to pay again for something one has ALREADY PAID for!

A:Satellite C660 - Windows reactivation

This theme was discussed probably 1000 times on this forum and you can find many threads with very good and detailed explanation how it works.

Notebook is not delivered with restoration disc but original recovery image is saved on HDD and in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can install recovery image using HDD recovery option but also how to create bootable recovery media (DVD or USB).

If you don't have it now all you can do is to order original recovery media or use own operating system but in this case Toshiba has nothing to do with product activation.

Product key that you got with your machine belongs to the OS version that you got with your notebook.

If you have more questions please be free to ask.

I have installed a new hdd in my C665. I went to Microsoft Download page to download windows 7. I have the activation # on the sticker underneath. Microsoft said I could not download because windows 7 was originally put on this laptop by Toshiba. Microsoft also said I have to get in touch with Toshiba.
I cannot find any satisfaction on the Toshiba site and wanted to know if anyone can help me solve this problem.

Sorry if this is a piece of cake for you.

Laptop was overheating; I usually just undo a few screws, dig out the fluff on the fins, rebuild and all is ok.

BIG mistake: I hibernated computer instead of turning off, left battery in and then disassembled (don't ask me how or why I did this because I do not know)

Lot of fluff taken out of fins.

Upon rebuild, power button only illuminates green LED, screen stays dead, no audio noise, no beeps.

Have taken apart 3 times now and rebuilt, but can not find a problem.

HDD is in a caddy and backed up elsewhere,

Any idea of what is going on or if laptop is fixable? I feel such a fool.

Thanks if you can help

A:Satellite Pro C660 does not turn on - green LED only

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Obviously there is no reaction at all. Even BIOS doesn't work. Maybe some electroshock and now BIOS chip is screwed up.
Man why do you play with your notebook if you don't have experience with this stuff?

Sorry to say this but I?m afraid mainboard is death. I really don't know what to say.
You can ry to search for same or similar notebook on eBay. Maybe you can find same machine with defective display ot anything else but with well working manboard.

Repair is pretty expensive so I don't think it is an option for you.
What do you think about all this?

p.s the laptop is a toshiba satellite C660-18C and model number (part no.) is PSC0LE-01U00JEN.
it came pre-installed with windows 7 home premium. i have the windows 7 ultimate discs. 32 and 64 bit.

A:which drivers do i need for toshiba satellite C660-18C

Hi phant0m2012,

have you tried right clicking on the driver with a yellow triangle and select update this driver?

Normally there shouldn't be this kind of a problem on a newly installed system, or at least the computers I've installed this problem always appears later on.

Here is the latest lan driver for your laptop: support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/lan-20101130110923.zip

Do you have another computer where you could download and then move it over to your current one?

Cheers!

I bought a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my TV in order to mirror what ever is on my laptop screen. My TV did not pick up anything when I checked the Sources.

I opened the "Action Centre" on my laptop and selected "Project". I changed the current setting of "Duplicate" to "Second Screen Only", this caused my laptop screen to go black when the VGA cable was connected. When I disconnected the VGA cable my laptop screen came back on. This frustrating because I want to change it back to "Duplicate" but it is impossible to navigate while the VGA cable is plugged in because of the black screen.

note that when i changed it to "second Screen Only" my TV still did not pick up my laptop.

any solution for this?

Hi everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2JD.

The keyboard has stopped working it only works when the on screen keyboard is selected as soon as I close the on screen keyboard it stops working. I have plugged in another keyboard that won`t work either only the mouse works and the keypad on the laptop works ok. I have used the Ubuntu live CD and the keyboard works with it but not in windows.

I have restored the laptop to factory settings and also done a clean install still does not work only when the on screen keyboard the keyboard works. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem is? It seems something is preventing the keyboard driver from loading up.

Have you tested it using \Windows in “safe mode” (F8)?

Hi all

I am completely stumped as my keyboard has gone haywire and am quite annoyed i cant fix it

Am running windows 7 on toshiba satellite pro laptop and was wondering if its a software or perhaps hardware issue.

Here is what is happening:

- Caps lock light doesnt stay on anymore but it flashes when i press it. It does still work properly though
- Left SHIFT key still works but when i press it.....it also creates this symbol ~ at the same time within UK keyboard. If i change to US keyboard then it enters the PIPE symbol.
- The ~ key above the tab key actually does this ?
- And the pipe key which is above the Enter key types this: #7

I updated the BIOS earlier today but to no avail...

Does anyone have any idea on how i can sort this as its quite frustrating! Thanks for any ideas.

cheers

A:Keyboard button problem on Satellite Pro C660

>Am running windows 7 on toshiba satellite pro laptop and was wondering if its a software or perhaps hardware issue.

Keyboard is controlled by an Microsoft driver which is part of the Window system.
So the story is quite simple? either your internal keyboard is faulty or the keyboard controller on the motherboard does not work.

How to find out what part is affected?
This is also quite a simple procedure? you need to connect an external USB keyboard.
If you notice the same problems using external keyboard, the problem is related to keyboard controller. If you don?t notice any problems using the USB keyboard, the internal notebook keyboard malfunctions? in such case it needs to be replaced.

Hi Tech Guys,
I have a friends laptop that I am trying to fix, their laptop HDD is failing which has been confirmed by Crystalmark and the Toshiba HDD/SDD monitor tool. I have a spare HDD lieing around which I would like to replace it with but I want to clone/backup the files first. I tried using acronis clone image but when I place the HDD in the laptop it does not recognise the new HDD, could it be due to the fact that the HDD has to be a OEM HDD set as the OS drive? I'm stuck as the laptop will not allow me to use my external HDD to backup the files manually. Not sure what to do next even tried to backup the files via my network using easy to transfer tool but it cannot find my PC please help thanks.

A:Solved: Toshiba Satellite C660-18C - HDD failure

When you clone with acronis, there are some things you need to do;
1 Boot the system using an acronis boot CD/flash drive. I always recommend doing a clone, image, etc from the boot disk rather than from within windows. It just removes one more layer of complexity from the task.
2 The new hard drive must be blank ie no partition info on the drive at all. You may need to zero fill the drive IF it was previously used.
3 Select source [old drive] and destination [new drive]
4 Complete the clone process and shutdown. DO NOT reboot with both drives connected.
5 Swap hd and pw ON. Make sure drive letters are correct, system boots without errors, etc.

Since this is a laptop, I would do the clone with A/C pw connected. Once finished with the clone, shutdown and remove both A/C and battery prior to swapping drives. Modern systems apply pw even when OFF so you want to be sure there is no pw applied when you are swapping drives or working on the system. Most [if not all] of the time, swapping drives in a laptop with the battery installed would not hurt anything however completely removing pw prior to working on the system is a VERY good habit to get into.

Dear Toshiba support,

My Toshiba Sattelite C660-1R1 has been purchased in 2011. By the end of 2013 the original HDD disk died and I replaced it with a SSD. This means I can't run the recovery partition with the original Windows 7 installation nor I can recover the product key from the registry. Furthermore the Product Key sticker at the back of the laptop is nearly unreadable. I can only read a few letters.

Is there any way for the Toshiba support to recover my Windows 7 Home Product Key based on the serial number and other details? I can send the entire back of my laptop with the two stickers for the proof.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I own a satellite c660 , which has been working well except for the last three months. I recently tried to wipe the laptops memory clean using the instructions given by the Windows 10 operating system. Now, the laptop refuses to start up, I was able to enter the BIOS setup screen and changed the settings to default, but now even the screen that allows me to enter the BIOS setup screen does not show, just a continuos cycle of starting up and a lit up black screen with a lone underscore in the top left corner. The laptop is a few years old but if anyone help me salvage it would be much appreciated.

A:toshiba satellite c660 black screen on xp

Hi mw_86 and welcome to TSG.

Have you tried an external Monitor ? I would do that first if possible and if it's display is good carry on below.

With those symptoms if that model has an Inverter I would try switching it with a known working one.
You should find some on Ebay. (I've had good luck even with used ones).

If it does have an Inverter it could be the backlight instead but that's usually much more difficult to replace.

If it's an LED model (ie no Inverter or Backlight) I would guess either the LEDs have failed or they aren't getting power from the motherboard.

Is there any way I can recover the password or reset it? I really need to change my boot sequence as I just bought a new SSD and need to format my notebook. Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The following are my laptop details and bios version

BIOS: AMI BIOS - Aptio Setup Utility
System Bios ver: 1.50
EC Version: 1.50

A:Satellite Pro C660-29W; How to remove Supervisor Password

Supervisor password is very important security feature and some kind of ?user reset? is not possible. You can cancel it but you must know the right password to confirm that you are the real notebook owner.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. You must just approve that you are notebook owner and they can cancel it for you. Of course you must pay for it.

As far as I know there are several techniques for password removal and it depends on notebook model.

Contact nearest Toshiba ASP and ask for help.

A:Satellite C660 - BOOTMGR is missing press Ctrl+ALt+Del

Hi dude,

First of all i’ve got a good message for you: this isn’t very serious issue and could be solved easy.
I assume you cannot start Advanced boot menu pressing F8. Correct?
If this is not possible you need an bootable Live CD for example Windows PE or BartPE
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

Booting the notebook using such Live CD will allow you to use the command prompt where you could execute some commands in order to rebuild the Master Boot Record.
Using the command prompt (shows like a black DOS box) you should type this command:
Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER.

Usually this should rebuild the master boot record on the HDD and the notebook should boot again from the internal C partition.

My sister asked me to update her laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro C - N Part number PSC ME- S SEN from Windows Home Premium -bit to Windows -bit BIOS bricked Satellite C660 update by Pro that failed So I did Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to Satellite Pro C660 bricked by BIOS update that failed check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows The only one was a BIOS update to BIOS v I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was So I run the update application within Windows Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update the whole thing freezes The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery The laptop is not under warranty Of course now it won't turn on It beeps once when I press the power button but the system doesn't turn on A couple of minutes later it sounds one long beep then two short beeps It then keeps repeating this quot one long beep two short beeps quot sequence every couple of minutes I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post but nothing works The links to the software suggested on these websites blogs forums are usually dead so I cannot try what they suggest The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool I have managed to download v which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key The version of this tool that I have downloaded is meant to be for a Lenovo ThinkPad X I have the correct BIOS rom for the Satellite Pro C which I have renamed BIOS wph and copied to the relevant folder I have followed all instructions but it doesn't seem to work Some sites say if this happens then I have the wrong version of phlash exe Certain other websites say that HP Boot Disk USB Utility should be used but I don't know how to use this What I really need is a definitive foolproof step-by-step guide of what to do with links to the tools files to be used for this model of laptop I will be following this blindly as I don't really understand what each step does I just do it with no understanding so if anyone can help me with this please write a guide as if for a complete idiot If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it so much I am really in a sticky situation - I can't really afford to pay a Toshiba ASP to repair it and I certainly can't afford a new laptop But I also couldn't bring myself to tell my sister quot It's broken deal with it quot Thanks in advance

Windows is corrupted.
You need to use the recovery discs to reload Windows.
If you need data from the HDD you can use a USB SATA 2.5" caddy to copy the data to another PC.

I have read up on this status code & the best advice was from Microsoft site saying that system restore could help. But that was stupid assistance as i cannot load up my system as I cannot complete start up repair because after clicking on it windows bar for loading up files does not end up being completed!

Instead i end up back at the Windows boot manager to try the repair that i have attempted 3 times.

Is there anything else i can do without paying out money for parts.

Thanks, mike

A:Satellite C660 stuck in an endless BSOD loop after Win 10 upgrade

Toshiba released an list with all Toshiba models supported for upgrade to Windows 10
http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swup...spx?region=TEG

Satellite C660 PSC1GA is not listed there and this means that this model isn’t supported for Win 10 and will not get Win 10 drivers.

Nevertheless the Win 10 should run on this unit because it meets the essential hardware requirements.

I guess that the BSOD loop appear due to some drivers which are not fully Win 10 compatible and probably these drivers must be removed before performing the Win 10 update.

To check the compatibility follow this steps:
Right-click the “Get Windows 10 icon” (on the right side of the taskbar) and then click "Check your upgrade status." In the Get Windows 10 app, click the h menu (3 lines) and then click "Check your PC".Now you should see the list of compatibility issues

Also this kind of issue could be fixed by Microsoft update as mentioned in this article:

A:Satellite Pro C660 needs graphics driver upgrade for Adobe Lightroom 6

The graphic card driver from Intel page can be used and you can also download the driver directly from the page.

What CPU does your notebook support?
What Intel GPU (chipset Intel HD graphics ******) does the notebook support?

The Intel download page provides Intel driver as an exe or zip package
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

You need to download and to unpack the zip package.
Then you will be able to update the driver within the device manager choosing the Advanced installation update procedure.

There are some rogue programs that give fake alerts or 'critical system messages.' But this isn't one of them. It is specific to the brand of system you have. A:Satellite C660-125 - Unable to access BIOS after Upgrading to Windows 10

You need to install the Toshiba System Driver for Windows 10.
However the C660 doesnt appear to be in the supported list, so you may need to go into the BIOS instead.

Hold SHIFT during shutdown to stop Windows from entering Hybrid Suspend Mode. Keep on holding SHIFT until the power LED turns off.
The F2 BIOS message only appears if the notebook does a cold boot.

A:Satellite Pro C660-1NR freezes intermittently, hard reset required

>The problem started when uploading a number of Windows updates about 6 weeks ago. Before it has never frozen, not even once.

So why you don?t try to set the system back to the point before the updates have been installed? I think this would be the first step trying to solve this issue.

>Do you think this is hardware or software related?
If setting the system back to the early time point would not help, I guess an system recovery would be the next step to discover the reason for this issue?
After recovery the unit should work properly? if not? well it could be hardware related issue

I have an R - GZ Bios version EC Version And also a R - BIOS version EC Version this is the most up to date version for this discontinued model The former R630 R830 onto Satellite BIOS Satellite the Flashing the will recognise my WD storage for what it is - ie an external HDD Flashing the Satellite R830 BIOS onto the Satellite R630 And the boot priority in the bios shows it below the internal HDD - which is what you would expect for correct operation The latter R will always try to boot from the WD storage It Flashing the Satellite R830 BIOS onto the Satellite R630 does not show the WD HDD in the Bios Boot priority list I can continue to unplug and replug the usb cable into the R - but it is a nuisance I'm sure the problem is down to the BIOS not being new enough What would be the likely result of flashing the version - designed for the R onto the R I'm expecting to be told it will make the R inoperable But these laptops are very similar so I'm hoping someone might have a more hopeful response Thanks for your help

A:Flashing the Satellite R830 BIOS onto the Satellite R630

First of all:
you can download only the Toshiba win based BIOS from Toshiba EU driver page.
This means that you can update the BIOS only while running the windows system.

Secondly:
it would not be possible to update the R830 BIOS onto the R630 since there is a protection which would break up the flash process because of compatibility issue.

Thirdly:
You could damage the notebook if you would still try to update the wrong BIOS (maybe using the traditional BIOS version, USB version, etc?)
So this is really bad, bad idea doing this?

TOSHIBA Satellite C655-S5193

Hey there,
While surfing this afternoon, a blue screen of death quickly flashed across my screen and the laptop shut down. When I attempted to reboot, the power LED would only flash along with the LED's beneath caps lock and scroll lock. I attempted to discern an error code from the flashing, but it seems useless as the flashing never stops, just one long-ish flash followed by a quick one.

I tried it with/without the power supply, removed the battery, held the power button for minutes at a time, removed the hard drive, all with no change. I cannot feel any abnormally hot areas (it's always been pretty warm when running) and have no clue what to do, as the warranty expired 6 months ago.

Any ideas?

I just purchased some new memory for my Satellite M645. Before I purchased, it look like it was the right stuff to me, but I'm not an expert. I purchased Winten WT-SD1333-D8GB. This is actually 4x2gb sticks. I installed it the way I understood it should, but windows never boots. The toshiba screen comes up but that is it. Just a black screen with a cursor in the upper left hand screen. When looking in the bios, it shows the proper amount. When I remove one stick (doesn't matter tried both) nothing changes. However when I stick one of the old sticks back in, Windows loads. The computer then sees the correct amount (2gb old + 4 gb new). Has any one seen this before?

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs

Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!

It seems that you already posted an thread about similar issue with your notebook some years ago.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63225

In first case it seems that your battery was the troublemaker.

You are talking about charging indicator. I?m not quite sure what LED should it be.
There are 5 LEDs - from left: DC IN / Power / Battery / HDD, ODD / Bridge Media Slot

The first DC IN indicator glows green when power is being correctly supplied form the AC adaptor. However, if the output voltage from AC adaptor is abnormal or if the computers power supply malfunctions, this LED will go out.

The second from left Power indicator glows green when the notebook is turned on. If you turn the notebook into the sleep mode, this indicator flashes amber.

The third battery indicator show the conditions of the batter charge. Green indicates the battery is fully charged, amber indicates the battery is charging and flashing amber indicates a low battery condition.

Question:
Are you able to power up the unit without the battery but using just a connected AC adaptor?
Usually this should be possible even if the battery isn?t inserted.

A:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

Hi My satellite C quot froze quot while I was using the internet and nothing would work - no mouse movement no keys responsive etc I was only able to turn it off by holding the power button When I turned it back on it re-started in Satellite after not use C660 "freezing" "Boot" does and indeed worked OK for a few minutes but then froze again I again had to turn it off via the power button When I again tried to re start it I turned on the power and the usual Toshiba screen appeared with notes at the base re F Satellite C660 does not "Boot" after "freezing" in use and F Satellite C660 does not "Boot" after "freezing" in use keys but then a message appeared saying Satellite C660 does not "Boot" after "freezing" in use that Windows could not start and that this may be due to a software or hardware change The message said that I needed to insert the Windows discs and select quot Fix quot or something similar Of course I do not have discs as the laptop came with Windows quot loaded quot The advice in that case was to contact my quot administrator quot I have tried the suggested quot reset quot by removing the battery pressing power key and connecting AC power all to no avail Now if I power the laptop up I see only the initial black Toshiba screen with the F and F notes for a second or so and then the screen goes blank - not truly black but no quot life at all I have tried the Toshiba Q amp A to no avail Anyone have any ideas what is next please Thanks Stephen

ANtec AR-350 Power supply, K99MV Motherboard. Problem started after I had some problems switching Wireless Network card. The computer runs for about 2-3 minutes and the Poff! screen black, Power led flashing slowly. I have stripped out everything except memory, started and gone into the bios and left it there just monitoring the board (voltage and fan speed). Same thing happens. My dilemma is to decide if it is the motherboard or the power supply. It is not memory, I have 2 banks and have tested one and one. I am currently in Gran Canaria, Las Palmas so its a bit difficult to find hardware. Any help on how to decide?

A:Power led flashing, again

Just a thought, try replacing your mobo battery. I had similar problems of the computer randomly shutting down / restarting on my older rig and replacing the battery helped. How old is your system BTW?
