I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just had an HDD failure, I have re-installed Win7, upgraded to Win10, and installed fresh Office 2016, and have been trying in vain to import existing pst files from previous Office 2010. Any ideas?
Do i need to un-install 2016, re-install 2007, and install 2016 as an upgrade?
Or, do some conversion first?
This is really badly covered by MS!

Is anyone aware of an efficient way to move emails (inbox, sent, etc) from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 (not Express)?

Tbird2OE is amazingly slow and introduces some problems of its own.

A:Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 - email import?

What's slow about it? Thunderbird is a pretty basic, simple e-mail editor. If it opens slowly or doesn't respond, I suspect you have other problems.

Also, there's no way to natively import e-mails from Thunderbird into Outlook, so you'd have to hunt for a 3rd party tool.

My computer crashed recently (don't ask...) so, after reformatting and starting over, I reinstalled Microsoft office. I had saved my outlook contacts, emails and calendar into .pst files before reformatting. I imported the contacts and calendar, but the emails will not import nor will the archived emails.

Can any one give me any ideas?

Have you tried adding the backup PST files as secondary data files. Once you do this you can view them and move the emails over to the new PST file.

To add the backup PSTs, go to the Tools menu and choose 'Options'. When the setup screen opens, go to the 'Mail Setup' tab and then click on 'Data Files'. Depending on your version, there should be an 'Add' button either on the right side of the setup screen or on the top. Click 'Add' and navigate to where you have stored your backup PSTs. Choose the PST with your previous email. After you have added the data file (PST), close the setup menus and check your folder list. You should see a new "Personal Folders" added to the bottom of the folder view list. Expand it and you should see your old emails. You can then highlight and drag them to your new Inbox.

Hope this helps you retrieve your email.

Having .iaf type accounts from former Outlook (2000) and Outlook Express, is there a way to import these into Outlook 2013 rather than manually keying them on a restore?

- From what I've been gathering, this cannot be done. That signatures have to be manually recreated. This right? Even when restoring Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2013 - they aren't stored in a retrievable spot?

I have been using the beta version of Office 2007 til it expired last month and during that time exported a back up of Outlook (contacts, calendar etc) to My Docs.
Not all that fussed with the '07 Office suite, I uninstalled it and then reinstalled Office 2002 but when I try to import the pst file to this earlier version of Outlook, it tellss me that it is not compatible and to contact the Administrator (me!).

If I cannot work around this somehow I intend laying on the railway tracks quite shortly as life without my files will no longer have any meaning to me!

I guess as a last resort I can download the latest trial of 2007 Office and see if that will let me re-import the backed up pst file but what a drama!

Hi - I'm trying to set up my addresses in Outlook, having previously used WLM but although I have been able to do it in the past, I had to delete them and start again. This is the message I'm now getting. I tried online chat with Plusnet, but the person kept telling me to 1) remove my email address and then 2) send myself an email from Outlook. She then said it was an Outlook problem - any ideas, please?

Got an Acer with Vista & Windows Mail -- my old Dell had XP Pro and Outlook. I had no problem backingup Outlook to a Seagate external and connecting it to the Acer .. but Windows Mail does not seem to import Outlook .. only Outlook Express. My wife's computer has Outlook Express .. so I thought I would email her my backup file and import it to Outlook Express and then back that up and email it back to me and import that to W Mail ... but the email will not transmit with the backup file attached "not enough memory" the backup is 1.5m.

My next strategy is to go into my old computer and edit folders or do a few partial backups so I get a small enough file(s) to attach to email.

Any other suggestions ...

I currently check my emails online from This brings up an online email client where I can create folders, save settings etc and store my messages. Is it possible to import all my folders & messages from online into Outlook or Windows Mail?I currently use Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007.Thanks in advance?

A:How Do I Import Online Email Messages Into Outlook Or Windows Mail?

According to the page below, you can set up an email client for your mail access. Hope this helps. you get the client set up, let it download your inbox. THEN create a folder for temporary use, move the inbox contents to the folder. Next create folders with the same names as your web based mail folders. Move the messages from one folder to the inbox, open up the email client, download, then move them to the newly created folder. Repeat this process for each folder. Finally, move the contents of the Temp folder back to the inbox. If you have any questions about the client you set up, all you have to do is ask, and someone will answer them.

How do I import email messages into Windows Live Mail? Help!!! Thanks.

A:import email messages from outlook into windows live mail

I wish I knew what to advise you on this topic, but I also find myself in the same position. I recently purchased this new laptop, with windows 7 installed on it. I also decided to upgrade my Microsoft Office from the 2000 version, to the Student/Office 2010. Several hours after roaming through the Office program went by, and then I noticed that Outlook Express is not included with that program, but can be purchased for an additional $149.00

Windows Live setup didn't go well either. I tried to run the wizard, and set up an email account, but I never could get the sign-on to acknowledge the password for the windows live, or the email account/s Gmail, or others that it stated would import all contacts from the old account (Outlook Express).
I'm not using Windows Live becuse of this, but to be more honest, i'm not really sure what the importance of the program is, other than using it for Video email of sort. I just let it stay closed, and go on without Windows Live right now.

Hope everything works out for you, and maybe we can both benefit from any responses on this topic.

Have a great day,

I've created an MS Application to import messages from MS Outlook using VBA. The body of the email is stored in a Long Text (MS Access 2013) data type and I use MailItem.Body to retrieve the body of the email. However, when I try to display the email in MS Access using a text field with RTF formatting, I don't see any of the formatting that I see in Outlook. If I open the Outlook email, copy the body and then paste into the MS Access data, the formatting is copied.

Any ideas how I can get the formatting to be imported into Access and then be displayed in Access with the correct formatting?

Windows Mail came with Vista after Microsoft discontinued Outlook Express. On Win7 and Win8/8.1 I've had better success with Windows Live Mail, part of Windows Essentials, than with Outlook for most folks. An issue with one yesterday on Win8.1 and its Mail was that for ease it worked best to have a Microsoft account such as or so I removed that tile and setup Windows Live Mail to use with his local ISP account. Now if you are confused by names, join the crowd, Microsoft seems to love confusing us like they did with Works and Works Suite.

Hello Everyone,

I am setting up my email accounts in Outlook 2016. I always do a manual setup and on my email accounts, I use Exchange ActiveSync.

My questions are this.

What is this new option of selecting Office 365 and when would I use this option? When I did select the Office 365 option and pressed next my outlook would crash, any fix? What is the best selection to choose from when setting up my account that would be great for automatically syncing with my calendar etc. on or apple etc.?

Thank you very much for any help and assistance.

A:Outlook 2016 Manual Email Account Setup, Office 365 option? & Crashes

Manual setup for accounts is absolutely unnecessary, Outlook 2016 does that automatically in a few seconds.

That being said, if you insist in doing it manually the correct option is Exchange ActiveSync. Office 365 option is for so called workplace email accounts, Azure AD / Office 365 for Business or Enterprise users. You select that option only if your organisation uses Office 365 and you want to set up your workplace email in Outlook 2016.

A:Import Files into Outlook express

That's not bad at all, actually.
Select all the rows.
Paste into Word (believe it or not)
Select all that you just paste, and NOTHING extra.
Hit Table-Convert-TExt to table.
Use a hyphen as the delimiter (might have to type under "Other")
Make sure it shows 3 columns will be used.
Hit Ok.
Copy the table. (Table-Select table, copy)
Paste into Excel.
Save as a CSV file.
Import into OE.

I can't swear it'll work. I don't use OE, but I do believe it'll take a CSV file--check first.

How about copying it off the flash drive to the Win 7 machine? Outlook may balk at opening a pst file from removable media. FYI, there's no need to "import" it, from the File menu in Outlook select Data File Management, click Add and browse to where you copied the file. If you get prompted for the pst format before browsing for it, just keep the default, Outlook will make the adjustment when you select the file to open. The file will then show up on the pane to the left and all the data in it will be available.

Apple mail and outlook use different formats, hence you cannot use the outlook import/export tool to import apple mail files. Outlook wont recognize apple mail and vice-versa. You need to use a third party converter. There are a LOT of tools out there which you can use. Depending on the urgency and importance, whether its a work or home email account, you can either use a paid tool or free tool. Needless to mention, paid tools will be more robust sand have the option of support in case you face hiccups.

How to describe it is difficult What happens seems to be that with some older messages stored in various folders mess into email a this - 6 mess into messages morphs Outlook? import Eudora they may be quot morphed quot or Eudora 6 morphs email messages into a mess - import this mess into Outlook? jumbled into other messages Essentially for a given header message recipient date subject etc the body of the message will now consist of a section of another message or multiple messages I m not sure how to recreate this problem but know it is ongoing as some more recent messages about months ago have had this problem I suspect by the nature of the activity that possibly the quot Compact Mailboxes quot may be at fault However I don t think I have any way of proving this The only way I think I can describe this is through some screen capture shots attached here as GIFs In EudoraBug gif you ll see a message dated to quot SWPAJBS Section Leader quot and with a subject of quot Fw TOLL FREE PHONE NUMBERS quot However if you look at the preview section of Eudora for this message there isn t a grayed area showing the TO and SUBJECT fields that is commonly seen in Eudora Secondly none of the material body in this message was ever sent to the recipient SWPAJBS Section Leader however I did send the recipient a message with the previously stated subject Again this message seemed to have been quot morphed quot into another The second screen capture is in EudoraBug gif Here the message is basically opened with BLAH BLAH BLAH toggle chosen to show the full headers As you can see here there is no mention anywhere in the message of the recipient the subject the date or anything else that is typical in an opened message Essentially this message and many other older messages seemed to have been quot blown away quot into something that doesn t apply Here s an analogy Remember PlayDough where each color came nicely in it s own little can Well give these cans to a four-year old and within a few hours you ll have red amp green squashed into the blue can purple amp orange amp green squashed into the red can etc As you may be able to guess this is an extremely serious problem with Eudora whether it s the paid version or sponsored free If one cannot get back their older messages because they become infiltrated contaminated or morphed into something else then the program is useless for storing messages longer than say months Any help here to get my messages back to how they used to be will be appreciated BTW I d like to import all of my Eudora messages into MS Outlook full version not Outlook Express Are there any problems I should forsee or expect before I do this nbsp

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

I'm using Outlook 2003 in Win7 and trying to send an excel .xls file to a mac user and he keeps getting a winmail1dat file. According to Googled how-to info, this is what happens if you email in rich text format which I am not. I'm in HTML mode. He can receive .xls in plain text. Another mac friend gets the same .xls file in HTML just fine. ???

Any suggestions without sending in plain text just to this one user everytime?

Tell the recipient to save then rename winmail1.dat to winmail1.xls. He/she should then be able to open it in Excel.
I've no idea why they are receiving it as a dat file.

A:BSOD when trying to attach files to a new Outlook 2010 email

Hi there,

Your dumps are pointing to Kaspersky,

nable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\kl1.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for kl1.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for kl1.sys
Driver Reference Table - kl1.sys

For the time being, try uninstalling that and install Microsoft Security Essentials which we know does not cause BSOD's.

For this,

The updates are mandatory applied when trying to do a shutdown.

You can disable that following this tutorial,

Shut Down Windows - Enable or Disable "Install Updates and Shut Down"

The mention of registry repair is a red flag, those programs are usually more harm than good.

You also mention Norton, I hope there isn't more than one active Anti-Virus on there as well.

We prefer you follow these instructions when uploading the dumps and other info,

No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon in the Contro Panel.

Could this have been caused by any of three new security updates from Microsoft yesterday?

I tried to remove them but it cautioned me that several programs on my computer may not work properly if I uninstall them. I send files to lots of people and I don't want the hassle of of creating a new profile every time I do.

A:Backup Outlook Express Email Message Files

Wow oldsoldier,I am really impressed by your effort to backup your email. I am way to lazy to do what you did. I have a freebie download called, OEBackup. It backs up any messages you have stored in folders (including sent messages and deleted messages - I think). More importantly, it also backs up your Address Book. It can be scheduled to run periodically. It has saved me a ton of work.I have a bunch of hard drives, either actual or virtual. I save to one (any one) which doesn't have my OS (Windows XP) on it. I recently had to re-install XP. Good old HAL.DLL got spooky for the 6th time in 2 years. I ended up reformatting the drive XP lives on, but there on my D: drive were all my OE files. I had to reload OEBackup and direct it to my backup folder, but it restored all my folders (and I keep almost everything). Then I imported my address book from my backup file. It was slick. I recommend it.If you think it will work for you, give it a Google.KermitD

A:Outlook 2003 Will Not Import Outlook Express folders, mail, anything

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

From what I can find it "appears" to be in

" It sounds like or has been modified where text/fields

either of these two fields or the recipient will always receive the
header.htm file."

IF you have not knowingly customized the then you can delete it and Word will creat a clean one.

Hi Kevin,

First you need to answer a question... Which installation of Outlook does this user have? To find out, on the HELP menu choose About Microsoft Outlook. In the ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK field you should see "internet mail only" or "corporate or workgroup" listed.

If "internet mail only" is listed, try this article.
Internet Mail Only option

If "corporate or workgroup" is listed, try this article.
Corporate or Workgroup option

Just in case those don't work, try one of these articles, based on what version of Outlook you are importing the mail into.

When we saved over 64 bit, it saved old settings to c: windows.old. So maybe I can access old data if needed there.

Thanks kolmtiger

I have saved my gmail contacts as a .csv file in excel. But, it does give this error message:

Attachment 236078

Although the data is there in excel:

Then I try to import to Windows Live Mail as so:

And it says "importing"..... and then nothing else. No contacts come in and no other message.

Please can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

A:Import email contacts to WLM from gmail - how?

Sorry - didn't see this thread.

Yeah, the import in WLM and Outlook suffer the same problem. there is no "select all".

So you have to tick each field you want to import.... each time you perform an import. It does remember some fileds, but not the ones you might expect, such as name.

anyway, the default mapping should suffice - just tick all fields and try again.

Because Windows Live Mail (WLM) cannot handle messages with embedded pictures (converts the pix to attachments when you forward), I uninstalled WLM 2012 and installed WLM 2009. But 2009 did not pick up my contacts.

How to I import them, or tell WLM 2009 where they are (they're in a folder called "Contacts" and they're in .vcf format)?

I have 6 months trial license all of them. Which one do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

A:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

Have a look here for Avast and Bitdefender info:

I recently installed a second larger hard drive in my Dell PC running WinXP, SP3, and now would like to export/import email messages from the original hard drive to the new one. I successfully did an export/import with the Addressbook, but the emails are less straightforward. Both HDs have OE installed.

Hello, Group; I'm new here. Just got a terrific new lappy with Win 7. My old lappy crashed and for my email addies all I have is a folder (now on the desktop) with all my 800+ addies; each is a "contact file" and it was not exported from Vista as CSV nor WAB.

Can somebody please tell me how to get them into Windows Live Mail?

Can anyone tell me how I can import a report generated by Access into an email attachment?

I have a function that imports the reports into Word but the formatting is ruined. Any ideas?

Thank you.

A:Import Access report into email attachment

One option is to use the Snapshot .snp format. The problem is that the person on the other end has to download a small viewer program if they don't have access installed on their computer.
The other way is to use Adobe if you have Distiller.

Hi, I used to use Vista and outlook express for emails. Following a laptop meltdown that fried my old laptop I'm now using windows 7 and windows live mail 2011 on my daughters laptop that's not been set up for email before. I haven't yet set anything up for getting emails in, but before I do, can anyone tell me if I can somehow get all my old contacts off my external hardrive that has an automatic backup of my old vista/outlook express system on it? The backup was done in May. I'm not bothered particularly about the actual emails, mainly the addresses! I'm really hoping that its possible to do it, and would appreciate any help that anyone can give, bearing in mind that it needs to be in basic language as I'm not totally computer literate!!!
Many thanks for reading.
King regards.

I am trying to link my Outlook "Contacts" (Personal Folders) table in OL2007 to a new table in Access 2007.
I follow the instructions under "External Data" and get everything in my new linked table except the E-mail addresses!!
Anyone have any ideas?

A:Cannot import Outlook2007 email addresses into Access 2007

exactly the same problem (as far as I can tell). The e-mail address field comes out in the internal addressing format. Would love an answer here. Perhaps some way of selecting the address format that comes out?

I have a situation where someone has 2 email addresses. One of them is now redundant and I have deleted it from the People section. However, when I am set to make a new email to that person and type the first letter of their name, in the pop up window (that you can click on) their old email address still appears.
How do I delete this from that list? Can find no way to do so.

A:Outlook Email - Deleting Wrong Email Entry when starting new email

In new email, start typing the address you want to remove. When you have enough characters for auto complete to show it (sometimes one letter is enough), use DOWN ARROW key on keyboard to select the address in question and press DEL key.

That's it.

Hi, I had to carry out a factory resect on my PC, before doing this I backed up my PST files ( running Outlook 2013), I had three, of which I now know, two are OST files. When I restored the PC, I found out windows 7 did not support the latest edition of Outlook, I downloaded Windows 10

What I didn't realise I was making directories and folders to store my e-mails on the server and also I believe my address book is stored there, I have an 800M, OST folder which I backed up. My question, how do I restore this OST file or can I recover from the server.

My PST file was easily recovered which I have made as my default.

A:Outlook 2016

The OST is the offline backup of the server, so if you can get your stuff from the live server still I would do that to let outlook rebuild its new database at this point. To use the OST you need to convert it to a PST with a 3rd party program like OST to PST Converter Tool to Convert Exchange OST to Outlook PST File

This problem has plagued be for a while but I am just now getting around to trying to solve it.

Outlook 2016 Win7.

When I receive some emails, mostly from advertisements from such as but not limited to Amazon, there are white boxes containing little red x's instead of pictures. This does not happen when I read them on my Iphone or Ipad. There the pictures appear but never in either of my two Win machines. Not only do the x's appear in Outlook but also in Cox's webmail.

I have applied the registry adjustment described in KB 2779191 but that did not correct the problem. Here is the patch:

DWORD: Send Pictures With Document
Value: 1

This doesn't bother me too much for I am seldom interested in such emails but I find them very annoying.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
