recovery from the Gateway Recovery Manager does not work

Q: recovery from the Gateway Recovery Manager does not work

I removed some spyware and recovery from Manager not Recovery Gateway the does work viruses from my father-in-laws computer It works ok for a little bit but then I will get a BSOD with the STOP x e error I do not have the peripherals that originally were installed on the system as I only took the tower to work on and have my own mouse keyboard and monitor installed Would this cause the problem At any rate I want to use the Gateway Recovery Center to do a factory system restore When I open it up and chose the factory restore option it wants me to restart my computer I chose to restart but it doesn't do the restore I have also asked it before to do a scandisk check recovery from the Gateway Recovery Manager does not work on start up but it won't do that either I have the mini dump files from the BSOD messages but I am just wondering if I should go ahead and take it back to his house and hook up the normal monitor and such and see if I get the BSOD then It doesn't seem to have any particular triggers like now I have had it on and running just fine for about minutes just trying the things that I have tried before It is running Windows Update now as it hasn't had any updates since March of this year I did a System Restore and then used Spybot S D to remove what was there whatever it had at the time would cause the computer to go to a blank white screen after about seconds on the desktop at startup I was told that it had started with some FBI pop up that was asking them to send to them to unlock their system or such Spybot caught a trojan something like fakeporn and removed it Since then the computer will start up normally but then give me te BSOD after a while It will start in safemode and run ok Guide me OMG don't judge me

Preferred Solution: recovery from the Gateway Recovery Manager does not work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This might help:http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/det...0x0000007e seems to often relate to drivers and 0x0000008e to RAM. If there is a virus still about then you could get confusing BSOD errors.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

A Gateway Laptop (NV-78 if memory serves...machine not in front of me)
Windows 7 64bit.

Started having intermittend HD errors show up and disappear.
Yesterday, it just failed on startup and when it goes into the Windows Revovery...it then asks for a user name and password...it gives TWO options..neither of which are a user on that computer...and one of them is HOMEUSERGROUP$...

Never heard of either of them...and obviously have no passwords to get them to function (Tried all the passwords that have been used on that computer)

Any clues? Hints to where I may find this password?

Obviously, the easiest thing to do is just reinstall Windows

Hi ya

I want to re install vista on my laptop as i've got rootkit and cannot get rid of the google redirection virus - but i don't have a re-instillation cd. Tried making one through recovery manager but it fails to recognise my cd/dvd rom.

so please could you assist on obtaining a vista cd or suggesting how to get recovery manager to recognise and make a cd instead.

(i googled the recovery manager problem and someone had the same problem and suggested that it will only recognise the burning software that was originally included with the laptop - this being cyberlink dvd suite) which i got rid of and have nero - could this be the solution - so now where to get cyberlink from.

thanks in advance.

A:How to reinstall vista without CD - recovery manager won't work

I once had a virus like the one you described, the one where you do a google search and it redirects it to some cheap advertisements for a bad software?

Before reinstalling Vista have you tried EVERYTHING?

Check out these softwares (i wont say Google for them, but try something like DogPile.Com, Yahoo, or Bling in the meantime..) -

Free Software
Ad-Aware
Search and Destroy
Sophos Anti-Rootkit

Free TRIALs of Software (e.g, use them to remove rootkit and them remove software or buy it, your choice).

ESET Smart Security - Use it myself, very good, keeps your system quick as before, but not as good as Kaspersky - But close.

Kaspersky - The top-level security app for home users in my opinion. Scans all new softwares, detects quite alot, try it

BitDefender - Used it for a few months 2 years back, seemed good enough.

If I abandon my efforts to install the latest Windows 10 update, would it be a feasible and a good choice for me to command HP Recovery Manager to make the "Minimized Image Recovery" to the factory condition of OS (Windows 7 Home Edition) with drivers and select software?  I have used HP Recovery Mgr to backup my files on an external hard drive.  Next question: How do I restore those files to my computer?  Should the restoration be done in Windows 7 or after I install Windows 10 on my computer?

I am on Windows 10, and for the past couple months I have had booting/BSOD errors that usually give me "bad_system_config_info" and occasionally, "0xc000021a ". Sometimes, I have been able to boot in by accessing the UEFI settings, other times it seems like it just randomly decides to let me log in to my computer normally. When I am able to login, I check for viruses and I haven't found any, as well as run commands like "sfc/scannow", "chkdsk", or "bootsect".  I am trying to recreate recovery media via the HP Recovery Manager, but each time I insert the empty flashdrive, the Recovery Manager suddenly crashes. Please, any response to these combined issues would be greatly appreciated, I haven't been able to use this laptop regularly for months now.

I have an Inspiron 7520 and uninstalled and reinstalled the new version of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager -- upgraded to premium to make sure that I would have full ability to use the program. Note: the old version didn't work at all -- hung up on backup, etc.
I have rebooted.
When I try and open the Manager interface, I can't. All I get is the clock logo with the hand spinning. I cannot set the destination. I cannot select what I want to back up. I've tried this several times and just get the spinning clock which I end up ending through Task Manager.
I have tried opening the Manager from the installed link on desktop, from my list of programs, from the Start menu, and from the tray icon. Nothing works.
Any suggestions?
Nan

A:Windows 8 Dell Backup and Recovery Manager doesn't work

I have the same issue with the non premium version, I made the mistake of upgrading to v1.0.0.4 that is available for download and now have the same spinning clock, the program never loads so can't do anything with it. I have tried twice now to uninstall and then reinstall but still the same issue with spinning clock.
This is on a brand new XPS 8500 running windows 8. The reason I tried upgrading is that the version I had would not create recovery disk on usb key (would take forever to see the usb key and then would fail with pretty much useless error message before writing anything to the usb key, all it would do is format it to something that could no longer be read by windows.

I found away past it. Just close the window with the "X". Don't hit retry or it will just keep starting over. The box will appear a few more times during the process, but just keep hitting X and it should go through. Worked for me! I'm not sure if there are features or files missing because of the errors, but the system seems to work fine so far.

A:Don't have Recovery partition and Recovery Manager to Reset ...

Hi there @HPian_B,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from the community! I read that you would like to reset your HP Pavilion g6-2310ex Notebook PC to factory settings.  Please read the document called Backing Up Your Files. This will provide you with ways to back up the files you have on your Notebook. Here is a document for you to read called Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive. I pulled some information from the document for you. The first thing I would like to make you aware of is that only DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL discs are compatible with the Recovery Media Creation program. The following disc types are not compatible with the Recovery Media Creation program:CDsDVD-RWDVD+RWDVD-RW DLDVD+RW DLYou will then also see that in the document it says: The Recovery Media Creation software program allows  only one complete set of discs to be created. The Recovery Media Creation software program  requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (Recovery Image (D) to create a set of discs. Uncorrupted means the recovery partition has  not been modified or removed. The creation process takes about 30 minutes per DVD. The entire recovery set does not need to be created in one session. The Recovery Media Creation software can be aborted at any time, except during the writing (burning) process, by clicking  Cancel. The next time the Recovery Media Creation software program is run, it automatically starts where it last stopped. You can use the recovery discs you create on your computer on another computer only if the second computer is the same model as the one that created the recovery discs. Here is a document called Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) and another called Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using Microsoft Windows Backup and Restore. - This is used to Recover, Restore, or do a Clean Install of Windows 7.  Please make sure that you read these documents very carefully before you decided to reset to factory settings.  Thanks for being a part of the HP community. Please let me know if this helps resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution". If you require further assistance let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help. Please also re-post with the exact error message you received. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me a Kudos. Thanks!Have a great day

Almost 2 years ago I got this PC at Costco.  I made the media recovery on HP DVD-Rs back then. Now I had a bug and it was necessary to wipe everything out.I tried using those DVD's but it didn't work (now I know I was doing it wrong) so I did the download version from the HP site.It does not include the Office that came with the computer. So now I'm ready to do it over again with the recovery DVD's but they don't work.  Followed the instructions from HP and tried all the options.Buying recovery CD's from HP is no longer available. What are my other options to get Office back now, and for the future if I have to do a recovery again?Thank you for anyone who can reply.

Hi there,  Do you not have Recovery discs? How did you previously load Windows 7 on your Notebook? The media creation software allows only  one system image to be created. If you created a set of recovery discs, you can not create a system image on a USB drive. The media creation software requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (FACTORY_IMAGE D. Uncorrupted means that the recovery partition has  not been modified or removed. That being said, at this point, I cannot guarantee that the image will work on your USB.

I thought I would be smart this time and ask first.

I have 7 on one partition and want to start over on another but I don't want to get rid
of the first one.

1. Do I have enough room on the empty side to do the Gateway Recovery thing and

2. When I go to install, will it give me the option to install on the empty one
or will it start installing over the 7?

A:Gateway Recovery on other partition

Hello Sablegsd,

Your post is not very clear. What empty side and why do you want to do a recovery when windows is already installed? Secondly, the recovery will simply erase everything on C: partition and install factory shipped files, if you mean whether you can choose the partition to do the recovery to, no you cant.

Can anyone help?
I have recently tried to perform a full destructive system recovery on a Gateway MX8554b laptop. I first created a recovery dvd using the onbord software then upon rebooting I loaded the recovery program and chose to install from disc, which worked fine until it spat out disc #1 then asked for disc#2. When I created the disc it told me I only required 1 blank dvd.
I have since discovered that the recovery software will read from the hard drive but I am unable to do this because every time I run the recovery software it reverts back to the unfinished session and asks for disc#2.
Is there an easier answer than formatting the disc, installing xp then installing drivers?

I take it that means that you have now tried two USB keyboards yes? Some motherboards have issues picking up USB devices before windows loads as it does not have the drivers to do so (the drivers are in windows and windows has not loaded at this stage). See if you can get a standard PS/2 connector keyboard from somewhere(spare, friends or family) otherwise you will need to buy one (no more than 10 at your local computer shop).
Once this is connected boot the machine and you should be able to do whatever you need to do.

Let us know if this works for you.

I am back to repairing my moms GT4010 computer after having already replaced the HDD since it will no longer power up. The first solution was to check into a replacement board for it. At $175 and up and after having read about this particular boards (FIC's KTBC51G) very problamatic history, I've decided to go with a new board and case. I have found a wonderful replacement setup that will run about as much as the original board would cost. In an effort to save money though, I was wondering if there was a way to extract Windows XP Media Center Edition out of her recovery dvd since I'm pretty sure that it will not work with anything other than the original hardware. Can this be accomplished or am I going to have to decide to replace the board and hope to hell it works or add the cost of the OS to the new setup?

A:Can I extract Win XP Med. Ctr Ed. from Gateway recovery DVD?

The gateway disk you are trying to use is made as an OEM and will only work with the same model motherboard for the gateway that was in there, the OS is written especially for the processor and chipsets that are on that particular model motherboard. It will be a great deal disfunctional on any other motherboard.

Changed RAM position (Interestingly enough, when switching the RAM to the other slot the screen just stays black)

A:Gateway Hard drive recovery

Yes you can. First you need to know what type of drive (IDE or SATA). Then you can buy a connector (or enclosure) for the type of drive that allows you to hook it to the USB port of another computer. You can then copy your files to the second computer.

Hello, I have a Gateway M-7315u laptop, and I am trying to recover back to Windows Vista. Since I have wiped the C:\ drive, there is no OS to use, so I use Hiren's boot CD to boot into the recovery partition. The issue comes when I get into the recovery partition. The "Restore or recover" your system option is grayed out, and all I can do is exit.

I have a Gateway GX7022e running WinXP Media Center. I decided to do a reinstall using the Gateway supplied recovery CD. I selected the 'complete recovery' option (which includes repartition, reformat, etc) and let it go. It installs the recovery partition first and transfers files without problems. However, when it attempts to write the 'user' partition it generates an error ('cannot create user partition; system restore cannot continue') and gives me no option other than 'OK' which then reboots the computer. The HDD is the original to the machine so there shouldn't be any problem with different HDD sizes. After receiving this error I used my XPPro CD to check the partitions on the drive. I wiped all the partitions I found, and left the drive unformatted. This does not seem to have worked either as the recovery process still generates the same error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am unable to load the Gateway Recovery Center.

I select 'Gateway Recovery Center', then 'Factory Restore', then I'm asked to restart to begin the recovery process, but then the computer only reboots to the Vista desktop, and does not load the Recovery.

I have used the Recovery center before with no issues at all, the recovery file (PC ANGEL) remains on the D: partition as always.

I just chatted with costumer service explaining this issue, she sent me a link explaining how to enter recovery with 'F8', but I get the same result, when the computer restarts to load the recovery center it boots back into Windows.

Surely there's another way to access that partition, and do a factory restore?

But it didn't (for me). To be on the safe side, you should make a Recovery Drive using the link above before you install Windows 10 or Windows 10 Techincal Preview, etc... If you want to also make a backup system image, you can try it.  If it works...it works.  But at least you'll have that USB recovery drive to fall back on if you experience the same as I did. Edit: I was able to eventually get my backup (up-to-date) system image of Windows 8.1 and my current programs and files..etc. restored, but I had to jump through a couple extra hoops to make that happen. Edit2: Microsoft calls it "system image backup"http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/what-happened-to-backup-restore

After runing gateway recovery, either from f10 hard drive option or recovery discs
created on first day, vista installs but when it tries to continue to set up computer
it freezes, then restarts with a message that "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation can not proceed. To install windows click ok to restart computer, and restart installation..."
this repeats again and again.
The sytem is a gateway lx6820 which came with a free win7 upgrade which wouldn't work
unless a custom installation was performed which would wipe out everything. Gateway is sending a new set of recovery discs but they are backordered, so who knows when.
I ran gwscan and hardrive seems ok. I have reinstalled windows 95, 98, and xp on diferent computers but never had this kind of problem.

Any sugestions?

A:Gateway hidden partition recovery

Hi Capnzims and Welcome to TSF,

You're not able to use this function without the DVD for several reasons. Mainly because you can mess it up or a malware could access the files and infect even the recovery drive, which of course is nothing you want.

The only way to succesfully activate the hidden partition and restore the machine, is to have the recovery disks.

Hi livesabbath,

Unfortunately, we're only able to offer recovery media in this capacity for a certain period of time. In this case, I've confirmed that we do not have software loads of units that originally shipped with Windows Vista.

You may want to look into purchasing a retail copy of Windows or look into variations of linux. Of course, linux does have a much higher learning curve if you haven't used it before.

I have a Gateway Model MS2274 laptop that is still under warranty. My OS (Windows 7) crashed shortly after I purchased it & I obtained the appropriate recovery media through Gateway.

Things seem to be working fine until the recovery program gets about 1% into the final recovery phase at which time I receive the following error message:

WimApplyImage failure
ERROR: 0x45D

I have contacted Gateway tech. support but am unable to understand what they are saying thus it becomes an exercise in futility...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

A:Gateway laptop recovery media problem

Please show us what they've suggested.
From what I can see, it's either a problem with:
- the recovery disks (clean them to be sure) - if the disks are bad and you got them from Gateway they should be able to replace them.
- the CD/DVD drive (try another one or a USB one)
- a hardware device (like your hard drive) - run a free bootable diagnostic test on it: http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

A problem with the hardware should be covered under the warranty. So, clean the recovery disks and if that doesn't work - then send it to their service center for repair.

I've been trying to re-install the OS, via the System Recovery for this Gateway 842GM desktop. At 4% of the installation, I get the following error: File extraction process failure.
I tried the following already and failed:

1. Changed the SATA hard drive
2. Changed bios settings to - Legacy support
3. Tried installing Windows XP cd (instead of the Gateway Recovery disk)
4. Format drive with Partition Magic each time before recovery
5. Installed external DVD/DVD RW drive

It's not letting the installation process to continue.

Either the motherboard is bad or there's a special setting in the bios when it comes to SATA drives. I had a similar failure with a Dell computer and it ended being the bios setting for SATA drives. I just cant remember and cant find it on the Gateway computer. ..

A client of mine has a Gateway 300s PC. She has two CD's that came with the computer that sound somewhat relavent: A drivers CD and an Applications CD. Unlike most Dell PCs of today, she does not have an Operating System CD that can be used to reinstall Windows. I was wondering if any Gateway owners for PCs purchased around 2003 know if Gateway actually sent recovery CD's out with their PCs or not. If not, is there a recovery partition on the Hard Drive? If not, are there steps that can be taken to obtain a recovery CD from Gateway?

Are there any legitimate third party sources of recovery discs for older Gateway notebooks?

I am trying to give a second life to a friend's old Gateway W3501 / T6330u notebook. On power-up, SMART is reporting imminent hard drive failure and the notebook will not boot to Windows Vista Home Premium. I have another 2.5" SATA drive that I can swap in. However, my friend does not have any factory recovery discs and Gateway support says they are no longer available from Gateway. They recommend purchasing and installing a retail version of Windows on the the replacement drive.

EDIT: Found a possible source that seems to be in the UK that offers downloads of recovery discs. Anybody hear of them or know if they are legit?

Hi-
I have a Gateway laptop running Win8. Just yesterday upon booting up, received a message below Gateway logo that it is Preparing Automatic Recovery. After this a dark blue screen and it seems to reboot and repeat.

From reading other users' dealings with this issue, I've read that the HDD might be going bad or already bad.

I've been able to click F2 repeatedly to get to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility screen, but am not sure what (if anything) should be done from here.

Also, if my HDD is bad, is it possible to recover any information off of it? I have a ton of pictures on it that will devastate my wife if they are gone forever

Any help offered is such appreciated. I am hoping someone knows what I can do from the Setup Utility screen

I have a friend's Gateway NV53 which had numerous Trojans. I removed them and then did a factory restore from the CDs. I did not install the "Best Buy" application nor the Norton's due to being out of date. After restoring, the first thing was to update windows 7 premium home with all the current updates (134 and 400+ gig). Now I have done this 3 times, shut off hibernation and connected directly to my network instead of wireless. After the updates finish and reboots, the OS goes into Startup Recovery and appears to remove all the updates, when I check again, there are still 133 needed. So I unplugged that one and ran the recovery disc's It went right to work installing Windows, and the Gateway information.I guess someplace along the line I corrupted both of the old hard drives. Maybe when I tried using Hiten's BootCD to try and format the hard drives and start over. But that is after I had so much trouble with them. So needless to say. I will stay away from that boot disc for sure. Besides Many of the programs on it say they would not work, or has nothing in them...For sure I will keep the links that you all provided for future reference. Now I guess I should open a new thread if I can't find how to check the hardware to see if anything is failing, or bad. I also want to now if there is a way to check my external hard drives to see if the are corrupted in some way. Also is there a way to restore at least the last hard drive and or check those two hard drives for trouble. Thanks again to all of you for putting up with me and my nonsense.

I replaced my failing hard drive, inserted the 1st recovery disc. I get some blury gray and black line about 1/2 across the lower part of the window. After a while the recovery management window will open. Howevery it allows me but one option, EXIT, and I can not go any further in recovering windows 7 on that computer. Can anybody help guide me to a solution. Or do I have to buy an new Windows 7?

I have a Gateway GT desktop computer purchased in late Recently the computer has had problems with connecting to a wireless network and we thought buying a new wireless USB adapter would fix the problem Instead we found that the entire Network Connections Recovery reboot not will (continuous System complete Gateway loop) service had been Gateway will not complete System Recovery (continuous reboot loop) wiped out and trying to access Services msc through Run would yield an quot MMC could not create the snap-in quot error I have tried to fix Gateway will not complete System Recovery (continuous reboot loop) this specific problem exclusively but could not find a solution So considering that the computer has not been completely restored once in years and has seen it's fair share of viruses malware and a lot of software installations we decided a clean factory restore would help sort things out We came across these issues when trying to attempt a restore First we tried a System Restore to a previous time where we saw less problems It ended up being incomplete and no changes were made to the system Second we found the original Gateway Recovery Disk and inserted it and followed the directions While rebooting we were able to press R and then when it says quot Preparing System Recovery Options quot it seems it's about to load but then suddenly reboots right after we see a Gateway loading screen making it an infinite loop if we keep trying to press R We then created disks from the Gateway Recovery utility on the computer They all burned fine but the same issue above happened as with the original Gateway Recovery Disk We tried to use the System Recovery option on the Gateway utility to also be confronted with the same reboot loop We've followed these instructions Laptop Recovery Instructions including the Alt F instructions and these as well How to Factory Restore your Computer But we never are able to reach step where we choose between a destructive or backed up system restore due to the reboot loop What are our options Is the computer messed up to the point where it's not salvageable

A:Gateway will not complete System Recovery (continuous reboot loop)

It sounds like your HDD may have some issues.
Download the ISO image for Seatools in my signature. Burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the Short and Long tests on the drive. If either tests fails, the HDD needs to be replaced.

Ok so I followed Spike s guide to quot Prevent infections by making windows more secure quot and Korrupt s quot Tutorial How to reformat your hard drive and install reinstall Windows quot but not to a tee I have a bit of experience doing so by myself After doing so I discovered that all the hardware drivers such as sound graphics etc that come pre-installed on a Gateway GX laptop were missing This is the first time I did a swapped and 7510GX C: Gateway laptop, Recovery System drives D: complete C wipe so I never encountered this problem Times before this I simply reinstalled windows or upgraded over the existing system Everything was working fine except for the missing sound and no ability for widescreen display after the complete wipe and new installation of XP Pro SP This is when I followed through Spike s guide After that I realized that I was missing drivers Gateway 7510GX laptop, System C: and Recovery D: drives swapped obviously because of the sound graphics and inability to create internet connections or use wireless So I fired up my dad s Vista laptop and Gateway 7510GX laptop, System C: and Recovery D: drives swapped downloaded the drivers from Gateway There were in total I first installed the ATI driver Marvell Yukon LAN driver and the Conexant sound driver I restarted and Gateway 7510GX laptop, System C: and Recovery D: drives swapped things were going well I then installed the remaining drivers motherboard ATI Catalyst two Broadcom wireless drivers media reader and the AMD processor driver After these installations I restarted After the bootup screens the screen got stuck on the Windows XP blue screen before it shows the users I waited several minutes before deciding to force restart It happened again and after waiting even longer I decided to reinstall Windows I was getting frustrated as I had homework to do This took even longer than the first time I installed Windows and after it was finished I logged into my main account which took about minutes to load up windows Upon loading the desktop I discovered that the wallpaper was gone grey and I got a warning that my C drive was nearly full I knew this couldn t be right I just wiped the drive So I went into My Computer looked in the C drive and instead of seeing the usual folders the PC Angel factory reset drive showed up Somehow somewhere along the line what used to be the D drive swapped with the C drive so that all the windows files were in D now and the recovery files were in C YET apparently I am now running the system through the Gig recovery partition Everything runs extremely slow now because of this I don t even understand how it is working because I m pretty sure there isn t enough space to install Windows on the recovery drive I am very confused so if anybody can help me I would be very grateful nbsp

A:Gateway 7510GX laptop, System C: and Recovery D: drives swapped

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management to see if you have success by exchanging the labels of the drives. Otherwise, It appears you are in for a format and reinstall.

I have a gateway laptop which at one time had windows 7. Windows started acting up, so I tried a recovery from within windows only to have it fail. I ordered from gateway the recovery disks. While waiting for the disks, I loaded the entire HD with the latest version of Ubuntu just curious i guess. I now have the gateway windows 7 recovery dvd's and it will not recover because it doesn't seem to recognize the Linux partition. Without the Microsoft Windows 7 install disk (only have gateway's recovery disks). How can I remove the Linux partition?

Any advice or help would be greatful.

A:Gateway recovery windows 7 DVD not recognizing Ubuntu Linux partition

Get the win7 install iso.

Better than the gateway I am sure: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Clean install 7, then you might want to install Mint or Pinguy - try pinguy, you may be surprised.

Welcome to the forums!

According to the HP support website, here are the steps to use the recovery manager:

Starting the recovery from Windows Vista
Use the following steps to recover the computer starting from the Windows Vista desktop:
Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.Turn on the computer. From the Windows desktop click Start , and then All Programs .Click PC Help & Tools .Click Recovery Manager .
The Recovery Manager Welcome screen appears.Click Next . On the Software Program Re-installation screen select No , and then click Next .On the Hardware Re-installation screen select No , and then click Next .On the screen that prompts for Microsoft System Restore select No , and then click Next .The Recovery Manager prompts if you want to restore the computer to its original factory shipped condition. Click Yes , and then click Next .
The computer restarts and opens the Recovery Manager program.Click Next .On the Microsoft System Restore screen select No , and then click Next .Confirm that you want to run a System Recovery by selecting Yes , and then click Next .The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files. Backing up your files is recommended. To back up your files select Yes , and then click Next . Follow the onscreen instructions.
If you do not want to backup your files, select No , and then click Next .After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on the computer. Before using the computer, update and protect your computer. Reinstall any virus and security software that was installed before the System Recovery.Reinstall any software applications that were added after puchasing the computer, and any files that were backed up.

If you can't access the recovery manager with these steps or it's not working, you'll need to order recovery disks from HP directly.
Please let us know if this works for you.

Hi my Compaq presario laptop has been corrupted by a virus...unfortunately, I did not take a recovery disk. Although I am able to access my vista I am not sure if I make the recovery disk now, it will reset my comp to current condition(with viruses) or factory outlet ????? What should I do????

A:Recovery manager

Backup your files, shut off the PC, turn power on again and keep tapping F11. That will get you to the reinstallation wizard - follow the prompts.

Upgraded to Windows 7 from vista but now I cant revover my files that I backed up before to this version cause the hp recovery manager freezes around when it gets to 12% of the first disk. If possible I would like to get those files back. Any ideas anyone?
