Windows Central Desktop App crashes on load for Windows 10 (14393.10)

Q: Windows Central Desktop App crashes on load for Windows 10 (14393.10)

I am having a problem with the Windows Central app crashing on load for Windows 10 (14393.10). I have uninstalled the app and re-downloaded it from the store. It does the same thing.
To note, the problem started after that quick 1 day cumulative update between Windows 10 (10586.464) and the Anniversary Release (14393.10).
This is the only app that crashes. It works fine on my mobile (Lumia Icon).
Any suggestions outside of resetting the PC?

Preferred Solution: Windows Central Desktop App crashes on load for Windows 10 (14393.10)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you run regedit?

Access the Microsoft website?

Update your installed AV program?

What other system anomalies exist?

Trying to watch my CBT Nugget videos as I have been doing all week long. I do pretty much the same thing on my desktop that I do on my desktop. Same applications, same settings just about, etc.

Well, I was watching a video earlier on my desktop for quite awhile (accessing it through the external HD locally attached to the desktop), and then I moved over to the laptop and tried accessing it again through the external (via share) that's connected to my desktop.

Worked yesterday, now today it's freezing.. I'll open the file and it'll play, but the entire application becomes inaccessible.

Actually, it just unfroze. But it seems like it does this upon load for the first 2 minutes, then it unfreezes itself. I already tried uninstalling/installing it again and didn't fix the problem

It first started to happen only in my pictures but now has occurred in my documents or any other folder with pics or videos. If I view files in list view everything is ok but I don't like this view. When my documents open in thumbnail view, it takes only a few second for that "we are sorry for the inconvenience" message to show up and so I press don't send which closes windows explorer. I copied all files in my documents into a external hard drive and the same thing happened.

Is there a corrupt file causing this? is so then how do I find it. I have tried scannow in cmd which didn't work.

Or is the problem with windows xp files?

thanks

Hello i would appreciate all the help i can get. I have an acer aspire 5742 laptop. I was running windows 7. I do not have a disc as it was already loaded onto laptop that was a gift. Machine was running ok, it would overheat from time to time as i think the battery was on its way out, anyway thats not the problem. 2 days ago it switched itself off, when i tried to reboot i got a screen saying windows failed to start with options to -launch startup repair or - start windows normally.
when i choose start startup repair it says in grey at bottom of screen loading windows files then it goes to a black screen and freezes.
If i choose start windows normally it says starting windows and logo appears, then it just crashes. Please help me.

A:Windows will not load and crashes on startup repair

What is on the crash screen?
Boot into advanced boot options Advanced Boot Options
and select :
Disable Automatic Restart on System FailurePrevents Windows 7 from automatically restarting if an error causes Windows 7 to fail. Choose this option only if Windows 7 is stuck in a loop where Windows 7 fails, attempts to restart, and fails again repeatedly.

Now crash information stays on your screen.

A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.

Hello,

Motherboard: Asus M5A99X Evo.  Bio: 1708
CPU: AMD fx 6100 Six-Core
Memory: 12272 MB DDR3 1439 MHz

My name is Ness. My computer received an unexpected shutdown. When I tried to boot it up it when into an auto repair loop. System restores did not help.  So I tried to load my Boot Manager, however it instantly crashes.  I assume there is something wrong with Booting Files. I was hoping to repair the Master Boot Record with Windows Preinstallation Environment. I tried using WinPE from a boot-able usb, however the program doesn't fully initialize and it hangs on "wipeinit" in the command prompt.I do have the Windows 7 Disc at the moment. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

A:Windows XP desktop won't load

Welcome to TSG

Since you can't run anything in regular mode, go ahead and run ComboFix in Safe mode.
Download Combofix from this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I have Averatec xp all in one pc. Seems to have some virus. I can boot my pc and gets the options to which account I want to go in. No matter which account I select, it does not load the desktop. I can go alt. ctr. del. and get the taks manager and can launch firefox or cmd. prompt from the file run menu, but unable to run the explorer.exe. I have also tried to resotre it to previous date and it does restore it, but after the re-boot, same thing no desktop. I have also done some other research on this topic and have gone through the registery keys, but no luck. Unfortunetly, I don't have the recovery disk.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,

I am kindly requesting help from anyone who is familiar with Windows XP. I have a Dell Dimension E520 series Desktop computer. Here is what I did:

-installed 2 GB of memory into the system
-installed a graphics video card
-installed a DVD burner (with SATA)

Now, when I press the power button to turn the computer on, a black screen comes up and reads:

"This Version only supports CD-ROM or Hard Drive"

So I am guessing I have to go into BIOS to change something but am not sure. Also, the screen gives me the option to press F1/F2 for setup but when I press it on my keyboard (wireless) nothing happens.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks!

A:Windows XP Desktop Will Not Load

The message " This version supports only Hard Disk and CDROM drives " , is the rest of that message "Please wait. This will take few seconds. " If it is, this message shows while the ICH is doing drive discovery, and checking whether any drives are assigned to RAID pairs; this is normal.

Ok, I'm running Vista home premium 64, and earlier today it froze (while on gmail, but i doubt that matters)
I gave it some time, tried ctrl-alt-del-ing, but to no avail, and had to crash it.
Since then, whenever I start it it gets to the desktop and as soon as I click anything it freezes up.
Safe mode works fine. I have tried going to mscongif and disabling startup items, it didn't work.
I cannot System Restore. It fails every time. If I try to System Restore from Startup Repair, i get "Catastrophic Failure 0x8000FFFF" if I just system restore from safe mode, it tells me upon reboot that it failed.
So yeah, I don't know what to do. I have a Dell guy coming in a few days to replace my motherboard (my headphone jack broke last week) and now this has happened..gaah!
Any help would be appreciated.

A:Windows crashes on startup, at desktop.

That failure has something to do with vista back up. Make sure that volume shadow copy service is enabled and running.
Right click on Computer in the start menu and choose Manage.

In the left pane, expand Services and Applications. Click on Services.

Scroll down to find "Volume Shadow Copy". It should have a status of Started and a startup type of Automatic. If not, you need to enable it:

Right click on the service "Volume Shadow Copy" and click Properties. Change statup type to Started and then click Apply. After clicking Apply, click Start. Now click OK and try backing up again.

And also please run chkdsk it may fix your problem

So before i'd just watch windows start.....the screen with the fogged out blue windows background and my Circular icon show for a few seconds, then I'm automatically in.

Now 3 months after upgraded to 10, instead of that smooth logon, it takes me to a damn Environmental background (beaches, forests and such, it keeps changing) then I have to click it.....then it bring me to Sign-in.....then i have to click that. It's like a whole damn process when all I want it to do is startup and load to desktop without having to click through menus. Does anyone know how to disable this and I already did the netplwiz thing and unchecked Users must enter name and password.

Hi all,
I've been having start-up problems. Whenever I put on my laptop, it loads to the place where I put in my password and doesn't load the desktop. It simply displays a dark/black screen with my cursor only. I have to keep forcing a shutdown and rebooting hoping my desktop will load. Meaning once it gets to my user account screen and I put in my password, it attempts to load me into the desktop screen but I end up with my cursor and a blank screen. But in safemode, the desktop loads alright. Any suggestions please?

looks like the user profile settings are amiss. I would first try a system restore to see if you can get it back to operating normally. Click start, go to accessories; then to system tools; then to system restore and see what the most recent restore point is before this started happening and i would tell it to restore back to that point. (i hope im on the right path here with this answer)

Well that was somewhat expected I suppose but it's out now, build 14393.5 was pushed to both Slow and Release preview rings (it was released to Fast ring earlier this week on Monday). It pretty much is the Anniversary Update from all the reports and since it's been pushed now to all the rings that means it's pretty much done - the only thing now is to see it pushed to the Production ring aka general wide release which is expected on Tuesday August 2nd.

If you really can't wait to get it, it's currently available through Release Preview and I'm sure someone will throw together an ISO here in the next 24 hours or less for a clean install.

Now let the horror stories begin.

A:Windows 10 build 14393.5 is available and it's the Anniversary Update

There's a "14393.31" bubbling around at MS but nobody is sure if it will be "the" Anniv. build or not. Since the .5 took TWO cumulative updates after 14393.0 to get to, it's possible they could eek out one more .esd before next Tuesday.

At least this time my deployment scripts at work are 100% flawless with 14393. That November update.. oy veh what a mess.

Hi all, I have installed WDS on two machines here and really like the idea and even like the implementation but I am getting a lot of crashes on bootup: WDS Tray Report to Microsoft kinda error. Is that normal? It seems this product is still under development, as I tried
1. WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-XP-x86-enu.exe
and then just a few weeks later:
2. WindowsDesktopSearch-KB926356-V2-x86-ENU-6.0.5414.0.exe
There does not seem to be an about in the interface so its hard to tell what's what, but the latter install seems to be newer. not sure.
Anyone out there understand this cool tool?
I am running XP PRo with the latest SP and updates.

I also have windowblinds5 installed on all machines...seems to be somekinda tray problem.
thanks!!

Hi,

I know this is similar to couple of posts which were posted before but still this issue is different. I have windows xp OS and whenever i boot my computer....only the desktop image comes up. The desktop icons, windows bar, task bar.....flicker initially but finally nothing else comes up. When i open the Task Manager and try to run explorer.exe...it does not work. I am not sure what to do or how to solve this issue. I tried to run the windows safe mode...safe mode with command prompt...last good configuration settings..nothing works!! Any ideas how to resolve this? This started happening all of a sudden today and till yesterday it was working fine!!! Not sure even if i try to run some utility...how i would do it since nothing's working!!

This is a dell laptop and i am not having any windows XP cd.

THanks in advance.

After installing most recent critical update, my computer restarts and I get a balck screen with a little window that says "Setting up personalized settings Desktop Update" or something of the like (may have left a word out) and it never goes away. I can pull up task manager, end task, but explorer.exe also ends. If I then run task explorer.exe, the little window comes back.

I've system restored to before the update and I'm fine, then windows reinstalls the update and I have the same problem. UAC is off, i'm on admin account.

What do?

Hi all

I am having a persistent problem with Windows 10 that I need help with

Just about every computer start takes two attempts to complete, the first start fails to load any desktop icons and just sits there with a spinning progress icon and nothing can be started. I have to do a Control/Alt/delete and select restart, which it does and then that time it all starts ok with no other issues all day long.

Anyone know how to fix this.

Thanks for any help

When I start the PC, Windows starts as usual and gets to the choose User screen okay, but after the welcome screen (loading your Personal settings), the desktop background appears but no Icons or Start button or taskbar.

I'm unsure of what I did to cause this problem and I'm not very savvy on computers but you folks helped me out a while ago with a spyware problem, so I thought I'd try again before I give up and call HP or Microsoft.

Any and all help will be much appreciated

A:windows desktop doesnt load at start up

It's posssible that you could have a corrupt user profile.
Try this:
Boot into safe mode OR if you have more than one user account, try another desktop.
Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories.
System Tools/System Restore.
Choose a restore point just prior to when the issue began.

Your system will reboot, only after rebooting and getting on a desktop will you find out if the restore is successful.

I had already done the cumulative update from 14393.5 to 14393.51 on two of our systems with no problems, but the update failed on the third system when restarting and all I see is the sp;inning wheel. I see some disk flashing to begin with then finally no more disk activity and just the wheel keeps spinning. Have tried switching off and restarting but still the same problem. PC is a Samsung all-in-one desktop. No previous problems so appears to be a software issue.
Anybody have an idea where to start?

There does not seem to be a R7-M370 driver available on Dell support for this version of Windows 10 ENT (10.0.14393.)  Both the Windows update, and Dell certified drivers fail to start.
The posted driver from AMD/Catalyst support, will not load either.

I am trying to install the latest Insider Preview and I keep getting the error in the title. I have searched the internet to see if there is a solution. I tried SFC scan and it found corrupt files and corrected them. I ran this twice to make sure no other issues.

I click the Retry and it acts like its downloading the file. It does the download sequence. It installs the first downloaded updates then it downloads more updates. Completes the download but remains on Downloading updates 100% for a long period of time then displays the error.

I would appreciate any suggestions to correct this.

It might be an update that has jammed. On odd occasions discharging the motherboard has unstuck things, like this:Turn off computer and remove power plug. Remove main battery too if it's a laptop. Hi there, this has only started recently and i am unsure why.

After i login (which happens automatically) Windows XP loads the sound deelie, and the desktop and then appears that the startbar / explorer freezes for a long period of time.

At this stage i only have 18 processes running, which is 10 or so less than i usually do ^^;;

After a 2 or so minute wait everything just comes out of it's coma and starts running fine.
This is incredibly annoying, and if anyone has any solutions, please let me know!!

Cheers. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem. The loading of programs into the system tray 'pauses' for 1-2 minutes before everything continues normally. During the pause other programs can be run from the desktop but nothing can be accessed via the taskbar or system tray (hourglass icon appears when cursor is over sys tray & taskbar). This has only started in the last week. I have removed all programs i have installed after the problem started but it has made no difference. The PC has XP sp2.
Most times it pauses with Norton AV loaded but disabled (red cross) but this is not always the case. And NAV is always enabled when the pause ends.

Hi bax and welcome to TSG,

I have split your post off into a thread of its own. It's not a good idea to tack onto an existing post as you may get overlooked.

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

I thought, since the anniversary update has been pushed OTA for unlocked Lumia 950XLs, that you could flash your device with the Recovery tools.
When I try to do it with the software, the version available on the server is only 10586.13169. No version 14393 to be seen...
I would like to flash my phone to a fresh new 14393 Image, since my actual version is somewhat sluggish and hangs when I have to restart.
I would rather not go back to pre-anniversary, just to save time.
Any Ideas ?
Thank you

When the new Windows Central app for 10 loaded on my 640 it was problematic. It wouldn't load, it would buffer forever and then drop. Loading the page would take a long time. And then it would freeze. While scrolling it would running back up to the top of the page. And lastly, you can't multi task, you come back and it's closed again. I have the old one works really well but I give up the functionality.

The only issue I have is the multitasking one, as for the rest I would recommend you uninstall and reinstall again.

I installed Ring Central Version 4.4 (for fax) on my XP Pro, it installed ok, and runs OK, but there is no "printer" for ring central in the printer section, so how do I send a fax???

When it was installing it says "you have to go to control panel to install ...(I forgot the exact wording), I went to control panel and under printer and faxes, there is the usual MS Fax, but no ring central fax, if this is the place to do it, can somebody show me how to get the fax onto the printer selection box.

Hi Guys I have have this horror issue with my PC I have even changed the hardware configuration and GUI high after 7, load Windows to fails correctly, desktop display the problem still persists My PC fails to display the desktop correctly after using highly RAM intensive applications especially Chrome but even after getting the chance to close Windows 7, desktop GUI fails to display correctly, after high load it or waiting for it to crash by itself the PC is still not able to display correctly the GUI even on other browser applications as shown in the screenshots st Hardware Config Intel Core Quad Q x GB DDR MSI P motherboard Ati Radeon x video card Software used that seemed important for me to mention NOD v Comodo Firewall Chrome Screenshot Captor SpeedFan Other mentions Aero is disabled because I've considered that it's one of the causes So I've considered that it's a RAM issue or a videocard issue and I've upgraded to Intel Core i k x GB DDR Asus P Z V-LX motherboard Intel GPU integrated in the k CPU The problem just happened times on this rig also and the RAM was not even coming close to it's maximum capacity of GB It was at GB's Also this is another videocard Intel's integrated GPU so we can exclude the videocard from the suspects My suspects some desktop manager bugs or other similar issue video memory allocation - I'm still suspecting that it can be caused by the amount of RAM dedicated to the videocard currently I think that it is at MB some poorly designed components of Chrome Screenshot Captor - still very questionable since there are enough resources on this system so there should be no fight over resources And when the system is barely used there are no issues Adobe Shockwave Flash - maybe this one I have attached a set of screenshots here these were taken on the st configuration of my PC using Q http imgur com a Mc hI Notice how it distorts the image by duplicating it and showing it in a smaller space or how does it displays those black rectangles In those moments the PC is fully functional the apps are running the background without being slowish or something but you can hardly control it like that For example I've tried to remove the mouse from the USB and then I've insterted it back the image was not displayed correctly but the mouse was recognised instantly and the pointer was controlable Same thing still happens on the new configuration Please advise me OS is Windows x SP Professional and it's Geniune There is no cracked software on this PC No games I've tried to maintain it as clean as possible

Hi All,

I've looked on a few forums and at several threads to see if I can find a solution apart from reloading Windows.

Basically, for the past few months the laptop boots fine up until it comes to loading up the desktop. I enter my password in fine and then it takes about 20 minutes for it to become responsive.

For me, it's not a major issue, I just came on here looking if there is any advice out there.

A:Windows Desktop Takes 20+ minutes to load from entering Password

I would start by running full AV and malware scans (but not at the same time)
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

If no progress try establishing a clean boot to see if any programs are bogging down
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Give it a go and let us know how you get on

I've been trying to fix my Windows Desktop computer for a few weeks now with no luck I tried Googling the problem and it seems hard to find people having the same issue THe closest I could find anywhere on the Internet was the thread here that looks similar Windows no text no menus nothing However reading the thread I couldn't see a clear resolution that applied to me So a few weeks ago my startup crashed I think from having too many interrupted startups I ran the Windows diagnostic tool so my computer could boot up again It boots up again However now - and cant on Fonts desktop start Windows 7 dissapeared menu load there the follow problems - Windows 7 - Fonts on desktop dissapeared and cant load start menu Start Menu won't launch Basically you click it and it won't respond along with any items on taskbar - No fonts show up below the icons on the desktop - Can't use Windows explorer as the icons and fonts are ridiculously small So I can't navaigate even through the file Windows 7 - Fonts on desktop dissapeared and cant load start menu directory at all - And the system seems to take forever to load and seems like its always quot working quot and then eventually crashes and get blue screen However I can seem to run some of the programs on my desktop I want to save against doing a fresh install since I have years of programs installed with a bunch of configurations that take me forever to remember the settings I tried a bunch of things Trying to download stinger exe and the command line Via bootup to command line and running that Can't seem to do that as the program doesn't work System Restore also doesn't work either Just gives me some quot x ffff quot error after it seems to finish the process Safe mode doesn't do much either Still have the same windows navaigation problem The only thing I can really seem to do cleanly is be able to get into a command prompt So if there is a way I could do fixes there that would be ideal Please help it's been really frustrating Posted are some screenshots of how the problem looks Screenshot Fonts on Desktop Icons don't show and start menu doesn't respond However SOME fonts show up on some clickable programs www soulmeld com windows-problem screen jpg Screenshot Windows Explorer not navigational Fonts and icons are illegibly small http www soulmeld com windows-problem screen jpg

Microsoft has begun to rollout Build 14393.82 for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. On PC, the latest update is KB3176932. This is a cumulative update so, while the release notes haven?t been published yet, it?s safe to say that it contains mostly bug fixes and small improvements instead of launching any major new features.

It?s important to emphasise that this update is for those special Windows 10 andWindows 10 Mobile users who have been enrolled in the Windows Insiders program. This program consists of volunteers who offer to run preview builds of the Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile operating systems on their own devices. Microsoft uses these users as a way to test the stability and security of special features and functions before rolling them out to the general population.
