No signal when connecting displayport to hdmi converter to S...

Q: No signal when connecting displayport to hdmi converter to S...

Hello. We have connected a HP 8200 Elite to our Samsung TV with a displayport to hdmi converter 1 year ago, and it worked well. A week ago we bought a new TV table and after reconnecting the HP 8200 to our Samsung TV we get no signal to the TV.Yesterday I tested to connect a HP monitor with displayport to the HP 8200 with a displayport cable, and it did work.Today I was and switched the displayport to hdmi converter at the Kjell & CO reseller, BUT WE STILL GET NO SIGNAL TO THE SAMSUNG TV. I have connected a monitor with the RGB contact / cable, and have tested to change the display settings to make it work, BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. Could a straight displayport to hdmi cable solve the problem? Regards Roger

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

I replaced my monitor with a Dell that has VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. My PC outputs VGA or HDMI, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable(previous monitor is VGA and DVI only). My only gripe with this cable is that the DVI end is hard to attach/remove. I can get HDMI-DisplayPort cables or adapters, this would be so much easier to deal with than trying to screw that DVI cable in place, but I need to know if outputting HDMI into the DisplayPort is going to cause any issues with picture quality.

I see either dedicated cables or converter boxes on eBay, converter box would be cheaper and I can use whatever HDMI cable I have on hand.

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

Hi, I just installed my windows 7 (64x) again (after formatting the hard-drive) but now I have a problem with the audio from displayport to hdmi. I can't transfer the voice from laptop to TV anymore. Disabled the video and audio cards, set the AMD HDMI output as a default device or even disabled the rest but nothing worked so far. My display: AMD mobility radeon HD 5000 Any suggestions?

On my ThinkCentre M92p which has Windows 7 pro installed I am using a standard monitor from the onboard VGA.
But now I want to run a 2nd display to my LCD TV. So I have a new cable into the onboard displayport and the other end is HDMI into my TV. Nothing showed on the TV (no signal). So I went to the display settings and click on Detect but (Another display not detected) came up. Then I went into BIOS and set up the video to Multiple Displays. Still No Signal.
As far as I know I have the correct drivers for this model from the support downloads. Driver (b2vdo41us14.exe)
I am hope now someone can guide me through what I am doing wrong. And be thankful for any input.

I am trying to connect the HDMI port on my nVidia GeForce GT 640 video card to the DisplayPort input on my HP Compaq L2206tm monitor. This is the reverse of what is expected by cable fabricators who have lots of cables and adapters for the opposite configuration, i.e., DP on the videocard and HDMI input on the monitor. There seems to be a uni-directional vs bi-directional issue involved with DP, but I don't quite understand it. Anyway, the uni-directional choices I am seeing are in the wrong direction. Anybody dealt with this and what is your advice for me?

I purchased a MiniDP to HDMI cable that is capable of 4k resolution. I hooked it up to my X1 (Gen1, model 3444-G7U) laptop into my LG TV (which also supports 4k). I can't get the TV to go above 1080p! Again, the TV is brand new and 4k capable, the MiniDP to HDMI cable is 4k capable, and it's connected from my X1 laptop's MiniDP port.

I'm trying to run audio to a stereo receiver over an HDMI cable attached to my computer (T420s) through a DP to HDMI adapter. I have the DisplayPort++ symbol on my computer, so a passive adapter should work. The only playback device listed though is Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD. I've tried installing the Intel Graphics Driver listed on Lenovo's site, hoping it might install the Intel Display Audio driver. It did not seem to. I still have to Intel audio in the device manager. Any ideas on what to do to get audio to my stereo receiver?

I own an HP 8440p with the NVS3100 graphics card. I have tried all suggestions regarding getting the DisplayPort to pass audio through a DP-to-HDMI adapter with no success. I have even tried purchasing multiple adapters in the hopes of findingone that worked, even HP's own pricey adapter.  Can I conclude that it is now settled that the HP 8440p with the discreet NVS3100 (not the integraed Intel Graphics) simply cannot be made to pass audio from the DisplayPort to to an HDMI adpter? If the answer is that it cannot then I will start shopping for a new laptop with a native HDMI and not the troublesome DisplayPort. Thanx, Redlyne

Hi gang,

I have a asus z87pro mobo. i currently have a dsub monitor and dvi monitor plugged into the appropriate ports and both monitors display independent desktops under win7 64bit quite nicely.

My specific question is:

which adapters would allow me to connect 2 additional dsub 1900*1200 monitors to both the hdmi socket and the displayport socket, so that i run a total of four monitors.

I have seen this :
PC HDMI to VGA SVGA RGB HDTV Video Cable Converter Adapter PS3 XBOX 360 Apple TV | eBay

and this
Display Port Male to SVGA/ VGA Female Adapter Convertor Changer Cable Lead Wire | eBay

But i am unsure whether they would both allow me to run a further 3rd and 4th connected pair of dsub monitors.

Can you advise?

1) I recently bought a  Dell Precision M4700 that has a Displayport, HDMI and VGA ports.
2) I also bought a Dell monitor U3011 that also has Displayport, HDMI and VGA port.
When I use VGA cable with VGA ports I am able to use dual (laptop screen and U3011).
But I would like to use Displayport to connect the U3011 to laptop. This setup used to work fine until yesterday.
Today I am not able to view/use my U3011 when I connect via Displayport (works fine with VGA).
How can I make laptop detect the U3011? The monitor says "there is no signal".
I don't have another laptop or monitor to troubleshoot the issues.
Here is what I did:
1) Upgraded the BIOS to A08
2) Upgraded NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Driver to version
3) Upgrade other device drivers to latest releases.
Your help is much appreciated.

Try using a different connection--hdmi would be best if the laptop has that. You can use a hdmi to dvi cable--same technology and those work. Those can be bought for less than $10.

On the XPS 15 9550, can an external monitor with Displayport inputs be connect directly into the laptop's USB-C Thunderbolt output using a straight miniDisplayport-to-Displayport cable?  Similarly, can a miniDisplayPort to VGA adapter cable be plugged directly into the USB-C Thunderbolt port to drive older monitors/projectors? Or is the TB15 Dock mandatory in order to get the computer talking to  external video devices through its Thunderbolt port output?

might as well buy a dvi cable. they should be cheap (hard to find tho inh my experience but should have came with your monitor.) its the same thing as HDMI, minus no sound. if your monitor had sound it would have possible came with one.

as for VGA vs DVI. you will defiantly get a better picture since analog does not compare to digital.

This laptop is 7 years old. Your TV is way newer and has far better resolution. the laptops Native resolution is 1024X768, the maximum resolution is 1280?800. Also since you are going through VGA this reduces the resolution and you will not get HD resolution (eg) 1080I-720P only a DVI or HDMI connector would get HD resolution.

Also, when I try to watch something off of YouTube every so often I will see tiles on the tv screen that block out the images. It only lasts for a few seconds, but, it is annoying. Also the voice and mouth are not in synch. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

512ram is not enough for the system and work you want to do on the pc.

put the max amount of ram in it 2gig and set the resolution to 1024x768

I run 2gig of ram and find this is sufficient on my old sytem

hi all,

I have my media center PC connected to a Sansung LCD TV through an HDMI cable.
Everything works fine; the PC detects TV and both audio and video travel through the HDMI cable from PC to TV

The problem happens when I turn the TV OFF and ON. In this case, the video is back but not the audio. This can be seen in the "playback audio devices" in "control panel", the icon that represennts the sansung speakers via HDMI dissapears.
Any idea of what to do? I got the latest video driver, which also deals with HDMI audio but no luck at all...

A:HDMI audio problem when connecting LCD TV to PC via HDMI

This is more of a HDMI handshaking issue than a Windows or driver issue, and a very common occurrence. Sadly if you do a Google search using "hdmi handshake no audio" for the search terms, you'll get lots of results but very little in the way of how to solve. About the best solution I came across is this one,

*Official* Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 thread - Page 271 - AVS Forum

A lot of that thread deals with the Asus Xonar sound cards, but there is also quite a bit about the no audio in general.

Can someone explain to me how to calculate maximum "channels" or whatever the tech meant when he said that?

Hi there

Brilliant little device for passing HDMI (less HDCP !!) plus RCA L, R Audio and 5.1 Optical Audio (SPDIF). Switchable audio pass thru,, 2Ch, 5.1 ch.
(Max HDMI input is 1080p so won't work for your 4K huge TV's though) - still an excellent little device for those who want to record from HDMI video.

(IMO the cheap ones are better than the expensive boxes as the expensive boxes don't strip HDCP from the HDMI output making some content not re-cordable with video capture devices or even software such as Audials).

AGPTEK HDMI converter. 21 EUR

AGPtek 1080P HDMI to HDMI Converter -

Audio quality more than good enough for games, movies etc. A really discerning audiophile might not be 100% satisfied - but it's not intended for Studio quality !!! More than good enough for me and I'm quite fussy.

Nothing shows on the external monitor no matter what I do or try on either the laptop or monitor?  I have tried this on a Dell E7000 series laptop also with no result on that one either?
Does the HDMI port on Dell laptops support video or do I need to utilise some other means of connecting a second monitor.  Bear in mind there is no VGA output on these laptops.
Thanks in advance

Just recently upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64, machine specs have stayed the same with a Shuttle XPC SD39P2 equipped with a CORE2DUO 6420, 8GB DDR2 800 RAM, and Asus nvidia 8600GTS.

With Vista, I ran the video with a DVI cable and audio with an SPDIF optical cable to a converter box that changed it to HDMI then ran it into my amp (Onkyo TX-NA906X) into my HDTV (Pioneer Kuro PDP-6010HD). Originally, I had to add a 1920x0180 res but it did work. Once I updated to Win7, it will not display any video beyond the initial startup screen (no HDCP???) so I can't see the login screen. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Contrary to what the review says, I did get it to display 1920x1080 in Vista.

A:Connecting Laptop to TV with Converter

You need the reverse; a VGA to S-video or RCA converter like this;

Also, there are simple VGA to S-video cables like this:
But these only work if the graphics card/chip support such a conversion and most no longer do.

And don't forget you will need a separate connection, speakers, or use the internal laptop speakers for the audio.

Also lastly the image quality will suck. Older TV's using such inputs will max out at 1024x768 or more commonly 800x600 and the image won't be very crisp.

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA785G-US2H mobo with radeon HD 4200 graphics. It has HDMI 1.3 and I have an old TV lying around which happens to have HDMI input. I just built a new PC so, I decided to hook up these 2 and make a Boxee box.

I have Ubuntu installed on the to-be boxee and on the new machine I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I plug in the HMDI cable, nothing happens, that is, no display on the TV. I even doubled checked everything-input, cable!

Am I doing something wrong here? The TV is a Hitachi L32S02A.

The cable is HDMI 1.3 one.

I even tried the new PC which has my Radeon HD 6770 on it-still nothing!

What should I try now?

I have tried different resolutions and different recovery rates, but to no avail. I know that the connections are good and that the TV input mode is the correct one.

I have just built a PC with the ASUS M4A88T-M motherboard which has Radeon HD 4250 on board graphics. OS is Windows 7 Pro.

I have installed all the motherboard/graphics drivers that were supplied on the CD, but I cannot get any video or audio output from the HDMI slot.

I know that there are sometimes issues getting the audio through the HDMI cable but there is no video signal either. The VGS & DVI slots are fine, and also using a DVI-HDMI cable works, but then I have to use separate audio cables.

Do you have to enable HDMI within Windows anywhere ?

I have tried two different TV?s with no signal on either, so it seems to be a PC issue.

Any help appreciated.

You can try to download the latest drivers from here:ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3

Failing that, You can try to exchange the motherboard (for OEM Windows 7 to activate the replacement board must be the SAME model), or look into getting a video card

Also, when I connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI (Also on Win7), It is instantly recognised and automatically displays, so it has to be an issue with the PC itself.

Spent a while on google trying to find a solution, but unfortunately I couldn't find one. Thanks for any help on this.

A:PC To TV via HDMI. No signal.

Hi there
What do you get on your MAIN PC when you press the windows + P key. It should be settable to display on 2nd screen only.

It should allow you to switch monitors. The monitor probably isn't being recognized since your PC is set to display on your main screen only (by default).

Ensure the TV is switched on and the input set for HDMI. You'll probably have to change the resolution - laptops seem to work fine --desk tops seem to be different -- probably because of the difference in the graphics cards - especially built in ones.

Laptops recognize when a monitor is plugged in -- this isn't always the case with Desktop PC's so try it with the WIN +P key with the TV switched on of course and the HDMI cable plugged in.

If you DO get it to work don't forget to re-set the screen back to PC display before disconnecting or at the next boot if you don't have the TV plugged in you'll end up with a nice blank screen.

Hey there @jim1200, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having trouble with connecting a display to your computer and you are getting no signal. I am happy to help with this. Does your computer have a discrete graphics card installed? If so and if you are trying to use the two HDMI ports on the back of the motherboard of the computer instead of an HDMI port on that video card, then that is the issue. If a video card is installed, the integrated graphics adapter is disabled. Try using the HDMI port on the back of the video card itself. If this is not the case let me know, but if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

typically, dual monitors is not done with VGA, or if so, is implemented using a 'Y' cable.

A video card built to support dual video out is usually DVI with Y or two DVI ports on the card.

The laptop recognises the TV and says the connection is working properly but the TV shows nothing. The cable works between my Ipad and TV so it definitely looks like a setting issue on the laptop which is strange as I haven't changed anything manually between it working and then not. The TV is on the correct input and I have set the laptop to duplicate on a second screen. Tried a few things like changing the resolution and refresh rate but no luck.

Issue I've tried TVs Samsung HL A A and LNT HX and they both give the same 'No Signal' error For months this setup has worked without an issue with both of these TVs The original issue started with the ATI The PC would still display without issue but it would randomly freeze and then a few days later the motherboard started giving a diagnostic error code that the video RAM check during POST failed and the computer would no longer boot I installed an ATI I had and the computer booted fine and no more lockups I No HDMI Signal Error was glad I finally figured out the issue But then the next day the LNT HX LCD said 'No Signal' when turned on A reboot reconnect cable re-seat video card etc wouldn't help I connected the PC to the HL A A and received the same error Tests Both TVs will work fine with another PC and XBox I installed the in the other working PC and immediately received the 'No Signal' error I placed my back in the working PC and while it wouldn't show POST it did display once Windows booted interestingly when I HDMI No Signal Error connect through my Denon Receiver the PC will show POST on the HL A A - just not when directly connected The bad PC with the will boot to Windows and I can even connect to it through RealVNC and gain access to the file shares When looking at the display properties it only detects a VGA connection the RealVNC I assume I installed Powerstrip and the EDID information it is pulling from the registry is completely HDMI No Signal Error wrong stating x a resolution neither of my TVs support When I try to tell it to pull EDID from the display device it gives an error that it cannot find one Any ideas on what is causing this I'm hesitant to buy a new video card as this PC has seemed to ruin so far and maybe that isn't the issue Is it some weird EDID issue that could be fixed Is it my MB or HDMI No Signal Error PSU causing a short and blowing HDMI DVI ports on the video cards I ran CPU Memory and GPU torture tests before I started getting the No Signal error and didn't run across any errors nor did any temps rise to critical levels CPU under and GPU under One recent change before all this occurred is I installed a bunch of Windows Updates and RealVNC By the time the issues started occurring a restore point before these installs was no longer available Since I get 'No Signal' even in POST bootup I'm not even able to reinstall Windows PC Specs Foxconn ELA C D E x GB Crucial running at factory speed and voltage Supermicro PCIx -port SAS controller hard drives JBoD Watt Mad Dog PSU about years old Windows -bit

I'm going to tell you that you may need to check your PSU, I wonder if it's putting out the proper power as this sounds likely that it is not.

I just bought a new asus monitor 2 weeks ago. everything was fine until yesterday. The monitor knows when you turn on a computer hooked up to it and turns on by itself. So yesterday when i tried rebooting my computer it said "dvi no signal" i tried to to change the input again to dvi and the buttons did not respond and i couldn't event turn off my monitor so i unplugged the power cable and plugged back again and this time it did recognize it. It also happens when i'm using my other computer with the HDMI cable! both cables are hooked up to the monitor but i don't use both computers at the same time! can anyone help me fix this issue? thanks!!!

At some point last week I removed the HDMI cable from my video card to use with another device temporarily Later after plugging it back in I could not get anything to show up I later hooked up an extra monitor I had laying around through one of the DVI ports and performed a system restore because the system apparently failed to boot I have been unable to get the HDMI out to work properly When the HDTV is connected with the HDMI cable both the TV and monitor hooked up via the DVI port behave as if there is no signal e g displaying quot no signal quot The 5850 ATI signal out Radeon HDMI No - DVI monitor does not go blank until what I assume is the Windows login screen shows up At first all sound would stop ATI Radeon 5850 - No signal HDMI out too because ATI Radeon 5850 - No signal HDMI out I had set the HDMI out as the default sound device as well but chaning to a different default sound device and plugging in the HDMI monitor no longer stops audio I booted up in safe mode and the monitor plugged in via DVI port does not lose signal but the HDMI monitor still shows nothing I wasn t sure what do to from there So far I ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for my graphics card buying a new HDMI cable and toying around with ATI Radeon 5850 - No signal HDMI out the card s settings in the Catalyst Command Center although I barely did anything there nbsp

Alright, this is the second morning this happened and I'm getting a little worried. Basically, I turned the computer on and the LCD TV that it's connected to doesn't pick up its HDMI signal. What I have to do is take the plug out and put it in another TV, get a signal there, then put it back in my main TV, and then it picks up. I haven't installed any new hardware or software since I started having this problem, and I haven't changed any settings. I've just been playing minecraft. The TV doesn't give me any problems otherwise.

I'd appreciate the help.

ASUS VS24AH-P 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor

Recently when i started my computer, i got this message and monitor doesn't work at all. I use HDMI to HDMI as my laptop has hdmi port. Monitor doesn't work at all. I made sure i am in hdmi mode in monitor and still nothing works.

Does anyone know whats the issue here? It just stopped working.

A:Asus Monitor HDMI No Signal?

Sometimes this can be a "Handshaking" Issue. Try powering down the laptop and unplug the monitor. (never plug or un plug HDMI while hot) when you have the hdmi cable plugged in, plug power to monitor and restart, that may help.

I have a problem with my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 or with my TV Thomson 40FW3324. I'm trying to connect them with a HDMI cable. When I plug the cable in and extend or duplicate my screen nothing happens. I reinstalled my graphic card drivers (Nvidia 520M GT and INTEL HD 3000), it didn't help. I even bought a new HDMI cable to be sure that it isn't a cable malfunction. What should I do to get it working?

Hello I'm trying to connect my new PC with a LG TV UF but the TV keeps saying quot no signal quot no matter what I try The TV sees that something is connected though And the Geforce control panel quickly and correctly finds the TV and its native resolution and other options Windows correctly allows extended desktop and other signal 4K60 HDMI to over problem TV options I'm using the latest Windows Home and an EVGA GTX with the latest driver and checked and controlled new HDMI 4K60 signal to TV over HDMI problem cable What I've tried restarting everything resetting the TV trying different HDMI ports although this TV clearly has one certain 4K60 signal to TV over HDMI problem one which is quot the right one quot in terms of color support disabling quot hdmi ultra deep color quot something which the TV suggests as a fix outputting to TV only I also have the regular monitor on the DVI port lower resolutions as if the hardware wouldn't support K connecting a low end Windows laptop using the same cable - WORKS contacting LG support they couldn't give a solution Any ideas

Hi Zack1, Try this to see if it helps.  Download the Chipset driver and Graphics driver on the links below and save the installers to your Desktop. Chipset Graphics Driver Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Intel graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Intel High Definition Audio Codec found under Sound Video and Game Controllers. Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, reboot the PC and see if this has helped.  Check in Device Manager that both the Intel Graphics and the Intel Hi Definition Audio codec have reinstalled successfully and whether you now see the HDMI Audio option under playback devices ( found in Control Panel, Sound ) as shown as the top option on the screenshot below ( ignore the fact that it's ATI, i just mean the TV icon option ). If it shows up correctly, try the HDMI connection and see if it now functions properly. Best wishes, DP-K

I just started having this problem on both of my laptops, Toshiba Satellite and an HP, and I have exactly the same problem on both of them. Both of them loose the signal as soon as windows starts loading so it has to do with windows 8 since I get a signal just before windows starts loading. I have tried to go to the display settings and on both of them will not detect my HDMI TV. I don't seem to be able to find a solution to this and it looks like there are quite a few people having the same problem but no solutions. Any ideas?
