Moving software to local server

Q: Moving software to local server

Hi everyone, I was wondering the best approach on a situation where my company is paying monthly service for a specific software which we implement into our clients and monitor their internal systems. As we have username and pass and a dedicated portal page where we login and there we can manage all the settings and configurations. And here is the part - how can I use this software but instead of going to the remote server to login into our dedicated page, I want to swap my portal platform and use it as it is on my local server. How can get to there?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed a HP Mediasmart NAS home server at my home. Our storage needs are just getting to vast for each PC to store all our digital assets.

Anyhow, I noticed that on my personal PC one of the largest files I have is my Microsoft Outlook 2007 .pst files. It's where MS Outlook stores all my archived emails.

I'd like to learn how to MOVE this file to my HOME SERVER and POINT MS Outlook to archive all my .pst files at this location thus freeing up my local PC from these HUGE files.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Not sure if this is the correct forum. In the past I could use SCOPY to move users files from a File server (NT4 server) to a Windows 2000 server. From what I understand SCOPY does not work properly with 2003. Does Server 2003 have a similar utility to pring in files and retain security permissions ?

A:Network Inteface moving to 'local only' when transferring files

Since you can repro, you're already 90% of the way there.

Try booting the Vista machine to [safe mode + net] and attempting the same file transfer from there. Either way, the outcome is significant.

When I move an email to a different folder, I highlight it, click Message and highlight Move. That brings up a sub-menu with two items on it, Recent and Local Folders.

Can somebody please tell me what the difference is between Recent and Local Folders? Help doesn't say anything about the two items. It only mentions moving a message.

We're using a consultant/vendor to move and upgrade our server. Is it common practice to do this during business hours and/or charge more to do it outside of business hours? Our site has 35 workstations and they're estimating that our systems may be down for up to one day. Thanks in advance.

A:moving server

Consultants are so named because the "con" and then "insult" you. The only reason I can think that you would be down for a whole day if there is a lot of networking equipment that has to be moved with it and there are no existing ethernet runs to plug into. Otherwsie, I would get another estimate.

Hi,
Simple question so hope someone can help.
I need to move my server in my office. It runs Server 2008 RC2 and serves around 100 clients. I have a wired connection with lots of LAN wall sockets in different rooms of the building and also a wireless ESSID as well.
I need to physically move the server to a new room, because I am converting the server room and the server is too noisy to keep in there.
So my question is...Can I just unplug the server and plug it into any LAN wall socket? Or does it have to be plugged into a particular socket/directly into router? Would I have to configure a new IP address for it?
Thanks

Hi chillijacket, and welcome to TSG.

It would probably help us a lot to help you if your told us the details of how your network is currently set up, including the brands and model numbers of all routers, switches, wireless access points, modems, hardware firewalls, etc. and how they are interconnected.

Are you only planning to move the server or the server and all the networking hardware that may be in the server room as well?

Dear All,

I'm hoping someone can answer or comment on this:

If I said our (Netgear) ADSL Router 'forwards' (IP Port Forwarding) our email to the Exchange Server's IP address, would that make sence?

What would happen if we then ditched the ADSL Router? We're moving into a new office which has the Internet already set up for us to use.
How would the mail know where the Exchange Server is? - Or will it just all fall into place?

Thanks for your help.

Hello, I have a few servers on a 192.168.150.x subnet. I need to move all my network equipment to a different site and I need to use a different subnet such as 192.168.151.x. I will be using a VPN site to site at the beginning until my point to point is insatalled. so I'm wondering if I change my DC and file server IP to a .151 subnet would I be asking for trouble? are there any records or dns records that will get screw up or anything that you can think of?

please let me know if this is something you would recommend or if I really have to do it in a different way.

thanks

A:Moving my server to a different site... need some help

hmm; Leave the existing entries for the DC as-is.
Then create the shadow entries which mirror the real site and use a prefix or suffix in the names;

if the true DNS is name foo.dns.domainName; then the shadow might be s_foo.dns.domainName
if the primary DB server is DB1.domainName, then use s_DB1.domainName
migrate from DB1 to s_DB1 & run regression testing here

when done and all regression testing is final;
SWAP:
DB1.domainName -> x_DB1.domainName
s_DB1.domainName -> DB1.domainNameand leave x_DB1.domainName for historical backup

The entire world is controlled by what is in your DNS;
today it's the existing system,
some day soon, it's the migrated versionand no one will ever know the difference

I'm moving an mailbox from a Microsoft 2000 server using Microsoft Exchange 5.5. to another server with the same versions. I moved almost everyone except for a few that are still on the old server. One problem I had was with this one user who is on our VPN and trying to set up his OUtlook. It says that the server is not accessible. This happened to th other users I set up before when Outlook was open while the mailbox was being moved. I would just update and refresh the Exchange Manager and Outlook on the client would be ok. For some reason, I think OUtlook is still looking for the old server instead of the new one that's why it can't connect. I'm trying to move it back to the old server now then back to the new one. Any help would be appreciated.

move the hard drive to a different computerClick to expand...

This won't work, the hardware and drivers will be too different, it will never boot, or if you try, it can damage the installation, so it will no longer boot in the old PC if you put it back.

You better hire a consultant to help with this, you would not want to bring the business to a hault because you did something wrong, its more complicated than you think.

A:Moving SQL Server 2005 Express database to SQL Server 2005

Hey there, welcome to TSG

Are you trying to port the database or the server configuration? If it's just the database, you should be able to create a dump of it and import it into the new server. I don't know how to do that with SQL Server, but you could probably Google "SQL Server 2005 database dump" and find some relevant material. If it's the server config, is there an .INI or .CONF file you can copy over?

I guess I'm not being much help because I have no experience with SQL Server, but in general a database port should be simple enough as long as both engines support the same data types. There should be very little push-up to get from 2005 Server Express to 2005 Server Enterprise.

Here seems to be a pertinent link to a Google Answers thread:

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=781934Is there help documentation for Management Studio? I'm sure there is a built-in utility to handle imports and exports.

I have a question i haven't been able to find much information about:

How do you move active directory from an old server running Windows Server 2003 to a new server that will be running 2003. Its just a hardware upgrade, but i would like to know the easiest (and most reliable) way to do it.

Also,

The company i was hired onto has several sites in the same campus, but when they setup all their servers they did it half-assed and gave each their own domain (without actuallly getting the name space)

Now, we are building a campus wide network and would like to restructure AD into a forest... can this be done without destroying AD and having to rebuild it from the ground up? Any links would be very helpful!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me in the past!

A:Moving Active Directory to a new server

The first question is the easier one. You first run dcpromo on the second server, which will install Active Directory and promote it to being a domain controller in your existing domian. You can then choose to retire your old server, which will involve moving FSMO roles to the new server, removing the global catalog and then finally running dcpromo on the old server to demote it to a member server in the domain. All in all probably will take about 30 min to an hour. Then second question is much more involved. You will need to set up trusts between the different forests, migrate objects and then finally retire the unneeded domains. Microsoft has several articles on Technet which will describe the process which can be quite lengthy if you desire to do it with the least amount of user interuption. They also have tools such as the Active Directory Migration Tool which will be very useful to you in this project. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326480/en-us

I would suggest setting up test servers and workstatios and doing run throughs of this as there are several points that can give you problems along the way. Good luck my friend.

MCSE Certified. (helps ever so much in this situation) just kidding dude, couldn't help but take a jab.

i configured a local area network and it has 14 clients

initially these clients where on a workgroup and some where not . so in the end i made a server running on server2003 and the clients are all running win XP. since they never had a domain the people using them used local computer accounts ..

1. i want to disble all the local accounts such that no one logs in locally
2. i want to move all the documents that the users where using so that the are available on the lan as well as the programs installed on them since at the present moment they can only access them if they log in locally
how can i do that?

A:server 2003 moving data

Setup a GPO with - Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Log on locally - set. An easy is to make sure you only Allow X group and Admins to log on locally and have all the users setup as part of X group.

Part 2 is a bit more difficult but not too hard. Up until now they have used local accounts well local accounts don't magically become domain accounts.

You can try and use something like http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8C-691B-4B36-B7AD-6C604BE4C595&displaylang=en - USMT - here is a link for the documentation - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722032(WS.10).aspx this however can work well but if it hits a snag it can really hose up. I would sugest testing it in your environment. Also this just will copy the information from a local profile to a domain profile on the same machine. This does not MOVE the data off the machine to a file share.

In order to get it onto a share and off the PC with the users domain account) to the file share you can then setup Folder Redirection in a GPO for the users.

I built a new server: dual AMD Opteron 242's, Tyan board, 1GB Mem, Dual SATA 120GB, RAID 1, with Server 2003 enterprise.

I did the build and OS load at my house. The server was running great. Not a problem. I then loaded the server up and relocated it to my office, now I have a problem.

When I start the server I get to the Windows loading splash screen, then get a black screen for about 1-2 seconds (like it loses the video signal), then the server reboots.

I can get into the setup and make any changes there. I have tried to start the server in VGA mode, Safe Mode, Safe mode with networking, etc.... Nothing is working.

The only thing different at home than at work is a different type of monitor. Both are 17" LCD, just different makes.

Any ideas?? I'm stuck on this.

Hi~

I have a new computer that I will be using to update my pictures etc. on my company's website. The program I use is called jasc paint shop photo album which I have on my laptop. I use it manly for softening the edges of my pictures so they blend in with the background. How can I move that program onto the new PC? It came with my laptop a few years ago and then I bought it so I don't have the software for it. Thank you in advance for your help.

I currently have several programs on a 300G Book drive. It spends a lot of time "sleeping" and is slow to respond.
I want to move that software to an internal 300G drive that is more responsive.

Can I just copy everything??

Will all of the "links" remake or will the software be unable ot run correctly.

If copying is not the route what is the best way to move software??

Dave

A:Moving software to a new drive

If the book drive is just a regular 3.5 or 2.5 in an enclosure, you can either ghost the disk and restore it to the internal, or just move that drive into your internal slot and put the internal drive into the enclosure.

I just got a new hdd and my system C disk is now getting in the "red zone" i have software like eclipse and visual studio and a couple of more "big programs" i was wondering is there any software or utility or maybe a way of moving those files from my C disk to any other partition. I know the best way is just to reinstall them to a another partition but it will take me a couple of days to reinstall them since eclipse and visual studio have like tons of plugins and updates that will need redownloading and reinstalling.

Thank you for your help in advance

P.S. Im using windows 7 pro x64

A:Moving installed software

There is a rather roundabout way of moving those programs to another directory in a separate drive without reinstalling them.. but it'll require some commandline usage with the command mklink which involves junctioning.

I often do this myself with certain space consuming folders in the C drive that have been unceremoniously dumped there by a program often designed to save settings and files in the hidden ProgramData folder.

The procedure is as follows.

For this example, we will consider a hypothetical program called Microsoft Bob which is installed in a folder called C:\Programs\BOB.

1. Copy the folder and all it's contents into your destination drive and directory (say D:\Programs\BOB). It has to be a 1:1 copy, all hidden files included.

2. Next open an elevated command prompt (Start|cmd|right click on cmd.exe|run as administrator|)

3. With the command prompt open, you need to DELETE (yes delete) the folder called BOB in the original location you installed it from (just BOB). (Don't worry I'll explain why later, you have that backup in D:\ remember?)

4. Go back to the command prompt and type in mklink /j "C:\Programs\BOB" "D:\Programs\BOB" and press enter.

(the first folder the one you want to create the virtual folder to fool windows at, the the second one is where you want the virtual folder to point to, i.e. the real location of the files in the folder)

6. If all goes well, in the folder Programs on your C drive you would actually see the folder BOB appear magically now with a shortcut on it, try clicking on it and you'll find all the contents you copied to the D:\Programs\BOB.

This "folder" is now a junction of the contents you copied to D:\Programs\BOB and consumes no space whatsoever !

7. Try running the program like usual, you'll find that everything should work, the system thinks that the program Microsoft BOB is still in the C: drive!

Hope that helps you out!

EDIT:- If you're worried about anything breaking, please try what i've written above using a dummy folder and files 1st

How can I save all of my preferences such as autocorrect, dictionary, etc. for use when I reinstall MS Office in a new computer? What about the settings and preferences for all of the other software that will be moved? Is it possible to save these settings and move them to avoid starting all over?
Thank you.

A:Moving software to a new computer

For microsoft word, you can your settings by copying the normal.dot file. (Do a search for the file on your old computer, depending on your version of office, normal.dot is filed in different places.

Do a search on your new computer to find where the normal. dot is stored. Rename it to something normal1.dot if you are anxious about overwriting this file or deleting.

If you are networked, you can copy paste this directly into the file where the normal.dot is stored. If you are not networked, save it onto a floppy on the old computer, and then copy it from the disk into the file.

This should save all your toolbars, etc. I've running into gliches when trying to save my preferences for Outlook.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I've got this program by Proventure called "Invoices". It keeps up with all my invoices and has a conveinant little backup and restore option for the database. The problem is that I need this program on another PC running the same O.S (Windows XP Pro). I don't have the disc but surely there must be a way to copy all the contents from the old computer and make it work on the new one. Does anyone know how to do this? Is there some free software out there that does it? Its only a 60 meg file in the program files directory so it isn't that big. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

I have an Ubuntu based home server with a portable usb hard drive shared via samba. I have the drive mapped to windows network drives on both my desktop and laptop. Several programs are dependent on this exact path (e.g., itunes). When I leave the house, however, I'd like to remove this drive from the network and bring it with me. The problem is, when I mount the drive to my laptop, the path is different so itunes and my myriad of other dependent programs can't find it.

What would be a solution to this problem?

Thanks a lot.

New guy here,

We have a server 2008 R2 (32) which is a domain controller, we recently switched from open storage (6 raid-5 drives in the server) to closed storage (removing the drive) every night. I do not want staff pulling the power on a domain controller every night to remove the drives, so I looked in the GPO "log on locally' and 'allow shut down'.

This works, however, the temptation is there to 'look around', see what we can see, etc.

Is there a way, either a security setting or a batch file that staff without admin right can log onto a server, down the server correctly, but not open windows explore.

I am thinking some way to write a script "IF logon server = \\DCSERVER then noaccess browsing" something like that, that is your are not an admin, and log onto a server, your Windows Explorer rights are limited.

Thanks.

Dear Experts,

After running the last Windows update, I have lost access to my local web server.

Whereas, the server can not be reached via normal short-cut nor under the network directory, the server is somehow still listed as media server, ie access to media files through Windows Media player - but not as file server.

Further hereto, I tested a Cisco network setup program which managed to reconnect the access. However, when removed (only trial) the connection went down again.

My own conclusion is that Vista is blocking the access as a security measure - I just don't know where to search.

FACTS:
COMPUTER:
* Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, SP2
* Windows Firewall & AVG security center deactived

NAS:
* Qnap T-406 Turbo server
* DHCP, IP allocation

* Network groups identical on Computer and NAS Server "Workgroup"

Look forward to any help on how to reconnect to my server.

Best regards

last year i set up a tp-link router and wired my laptop to it wirelessly no probs. However, since then my hard drive died and since its been repaired, i cant get the network past 'local only', after researching the net i find that this is a common vista fault. However after a lot of fiddling, vista has diagnosed that i "cannot communicate with the primary DNS server (192.168.1.2).

please please help.

Do you have another computer on this network? I am willing to bet that the DNS address it should get is 192.168.1.1. Make sure you have automatically get an IP address AND DNS. I guess this is a bump. Same problem here. No FTP sharing on local (home) network. Used to work. I did it a couple times a few months back just to test it and now that I want to map network drives to quickly transfer movies and tv shows to my htpc, suddenly it doesn't work.

I don't think it's SP1 related because a friend can still do it on his machine, running the same OS with SP1.
I tried all of the stuff you did already with no success.
I tried Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all > Incoming connections
It reports an error that more than one device is performing NAT. So I took my modem out of the equation and still nothing.

Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Filezilla timeout
Windows explorer crashes and then gives me an error about typing something wrong or not having permission.

I have 2 drives that were using windows mirroring (Under Disk Management) in my old PC.

I've moved them to my new PC, but made a mistake.
I'm only running Windows 10 Home instead of Pro.
So when I imported foreign disks they came in as 2 separate disks instead of 1.

I've ordered Windows 10 Pro and plan on upgrading, but am unsure if I can re-import the disks so they appear as 1 since I already imported them.

Any suggestions?

Worse case I can probably reformat one of the drives, but I'm not sure if I can start a new mirror with a drive that already has data (and I really don't want to lose the data).

3. What I can't figure out is how to move my data from the old Drive D: to the new Raid drive and have it recognized. In other words, move all data from Drive D: to Drive C:, so the system 'SEES' all data/software as being on drive C;, not C; and D:

I think it has something to do with changing all references to Drive D: to Drive C: in the registry?

Am I confused yet???

all the drivers related to the motherboard will be installed with the windows 7 install so you would need to put the hard drive back on the server then run sysprep on win 7 shut down then put back onto the desktop which will have a different mobo and hardware setup which will be installed at first boot.

Hope someone can solve this mystery. I am in the process of moving data from a local RAID set to an external drive source in order to free up some space. As I am waiting for additional drives to come in I decided to hook up a Maxtor external 500 GB. I am managing the data relocation though Terminal Services and for some reason my session drops and I have to wait several minutes before logging back in. The next time I logged in I had a constant ping going to the server and repeated the process as before and the same thing happend again. My constant ping went from constant replies to request time out. Then came back up minutes later. If I move date from the E: drive of the RAID to local C: I have no problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Disk Imaging Local Drive to the Server

Problem is, depending on the version of Windows you're using, the image from your old machine likely won't work on the new one. If it's Windows 2000 or XP, the two machines must have the same I/O chipset, or the image will bluescreen on the new hardware, and you'll need to at least do a repair install to get it working again (there are other workarounds that can be done before imaging, but they get somewhat involved). In the end, it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

If you're mostly worried about your work on the old machine, just take the drive from it and plug it into the new one as a secondary drive, so you can access and copy off your files.

We have a Win NT4 domain and I've just added our first W2K server (Dell Poweredge 2650, no AD). The server appears to have joined the domain successfully and event logs are clean. My problem is when logged on as a local admin I can install programs (McAfee EPo and Reflex disknet) successfully and those programs run OK (locally only). However when logged on as a Domain admin. I can't get the programs to install or run properly. The Domain Admin has been added to the local admin group and local policies 'seem' OK. Access to the disk partitions is set to full. A further sympton was that I could'nt run the MMC as a Domain admin, but I found that I could get round this by specifying the temp directory in the environment tab. The problem must be security, but I can't see where. Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks

I have six Windows7 Pro machines. They will not auto download Windows updates because of the proxy. If I click on "Check for Updates" then a small window pops up for proxy credentials. When I put in my credentials, the updates download and install normally. So I am having to do this manually on each computer each week. Is there a way that I can make Windows Update save my proxy credentials so that it can run automatically?

One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....any thoughts? I'm sure this will require a bunch of followup information so ask away.

A:Specific server can only acces local computers

Interesting update!! Our firewall is set to one-to-one nat a real IP address to the servers internal IP address. If I turn one-to-one nat OFF, the server is able to ping out. It obviously can't receive connections, but it can ping out.....

Seems like a DNS or record issue or something, but I did a few DNS lookup things and they all seem to check out. Thoughts?

Having a headache setting up server 2000. I have bought a big 1500 page book to help me, which is great, but I still can't get past this part.

I can network up many PC's to the server, with little problems. But other than giving someone a admin rights I cannot get anyone to log on to the server. I've tried making the server a domain server but when I try to get a user to log on all they get is "the local policy does not permit you to log on interactively"

Try as I might I cannot get by this. Can someone please tell me how to get this sorted in the most basic of english!

You need to either add a static route to each of the host devices you are trying to reach to point to your VPN server as the gateway to your VPN client or you need to add the static route to the router acting as the default gateway to the 10.0.0.x network to point to the VPN server as the gateway for the VPN client.

Hello all and thank you for reading my post. I have a user at home who access' our terminal server and wants to print to her home printer. I was able to find the drivers, add it as a local printer, and assign it the correct TS Port. This works great until she logs off the TS and back on. When this happens, the TS Port for her printer changes. I do not want to give her admin rights so that she can go in and change the port everytime, and this would also be an inconvinience to the user. So I'm hoping there is a way to set the printer TS Port to static, so it remains the same everytime. Or any other workarounds would be helpful!

Thanks,

You need to wait for someone more knowledgeable than me, but I have one little pearl of wisdom for you! WSUS is the normal way to achieve this, and is in fact the only way I know about. We need to see if we can actually get it onto Vista/7. It will probably put up a fight, and unfortunately, due to server/client networking, probably not work, even if we get it on. However, we can try.

About WSUS. A Network Manager far more knowledgeable than I once told me that you have to be really, really careful with WSUS, and its setup. It does cache updates, and then the clients download them from your local server. It doesn't just stream updates to the client. This is more important than you might think. You MUST tell WSUS what products are installed across your clients, otherwise it will assume that they could have anything installed, and starts cacheing. This means that without careful setup, every single microsoft update ever released will be downloaded, be it for Windows 95, XP, Office 2003, SQL Server 2000, Windows Server 2008 R2, Visual Studio C# Express 2005, DirectX 3.0; you name it. That is a MASSIVE, MASSIVE download! Just thought you should know

A:Shoutcast Server Problems(but may be my local comp)

Well first I would open up a netstat and see if your PC is even listening for a connection on 8000. Also make sure you know if it needs UDP or TCP.

Secondly you can't ping localhost because your PC has no clue what localhost is. Local host is a name for your PC or 127.0.0.1 but pinging it by name will always resolve nothing at all.

Lastly and this is a big one... Check your firewalls! Before since you were behind a router and you had alot of 192.168.X.X rules (or whatever your home network was set as). You probably had a rule for your router within the IP to access your PC's port to pass along information. The problem is now you went to an internet IP those rules have NO bearing on your firewall and its still locked down.

Just a couple of things to look over but I am thinking its more software firewall related though you don't mention having one installed.

Hey,

On my main machine (192.168.0.3, running XP)), I am running EasyPHP (easyphp.org) web server, which on the main machine I can access fine at http://localhost

I want to now connect to that server from another computer (192.168.0.5, running Vista) on my local network.

I can ping 192.168.0.3 perfectly well from 192.168.0.5 and browse through Window's Network Explorer.

However http://192.168.0.3 returns Page Load Error / Connection Interrupted / This document contains no data.

So, I figure the EasyPHP server isn't watching on the PC's Ip address (only localhost).

What step have I missed to be able to connect to the web server from the network?

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

I am playing around with Server 2012. If I want to have a laptop configured for "at office use" with option to go on site, what would be the best way to do that in order to retain access to shared locations on server that is "at office"?

Should I create a standard windows account unrelated to my domain controller, and have them VPN regardless if they are in office or on site? Or is there a way to have a laptop configured for domain use, where it will still be functional (local computer use) on site outside of the office, even without internet connection (I know you can's VPN without it).

Thanks

A:Best way to set up local and remote user with Server 2012

Well this is kind of interesting. You can in fact use a domain laptop away from the local network as long as you have logged into int once on the domain so it can cache your password for future log ins. Now comes to the more difficult part of your question's. Accessing files remotely while not online, you can set up what is called offline files. Offline files will give you acess to your files away from domain network. So if you choose to do offline files any changes made to the file while away from the domain controller where you shares are set up will have to be synced once back on the domain network. So if you make changes to lets say docA while off domain network, once you get back to domain network you will have to sync offline files to the server to update any changes you have made. This set up would not require offsite network but can bring problems when syncing once you reconnect on domain. But now lets say you have the same shares and now you have multiple individials with the same access to the shares. Say you make changes to docA and the other person makes changes to docA while offiste. Once you both reconnect and sync to server you could have issues with data such as duplicate information or doc merging. VPN would be the best option for sure....

I need to move some of the installed software from one machine to another because the machine on which the software is installed has virtual memory problems - and I'll either have to replace it altogether or to move it to do only a limited set of tasks.

Unfortunately, I had installed most of my software on this machine and do not have CDs for all of it. Even some that I have CDs for have been registered, when originally installed - and I only have one user version.

Any advice on how to tackle this challenge would be appreciated. Please note that I own all the software legally - and am interested in moving my one copy from one hardware to another, nothing illegal.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Windows 7

I ran the Sfc /scannow and I show no problems

All I have to do is move the mouse and all kinds of windows start opening.

It appears to me that the opening software is not related to where the mouse cursor is located.

I can access the command line.

I have run Malwarebyte, Security essentials, spybot thinking I might have some kind of problem.

Is there a virus or malware with symptoms like this?

I cannot do anything on the desktop, because as soon as I move the mouse onto the gui things start popping open. If I do click on control panel another software will open over that location and I cannotdo anything there.

Safe mode is about the only way I can use the mouse.

Any suggestions...

Of all the copy tools listed, the only one I have personally used is TeraCopy. It worked flawlessly with no issues. It's also listed in the Forum's "Free Great Programs" section. (Since everything is listed alphabetically you'll have to scroll through several pages of programs. Or, click Ctrl+F to open a "find" window and type in TeraCopy to go right to it.)

As to why Microsoft doesn't incorporate these things into their OS, I have no clue.

I frequently use the ftp file transfer function on ES explorer android to transfer large files between my pc and phone over the wifi network. I would like to do the same to transfer files between windows pcs , but to do so I have to setup folder sharing and change a few network settings which I want to avoid . Is there an application which provides the same convenience without changing network settings?

Hi realmatrix Have you ever tried FileZilla or WinSCP? Both are excellent and popular FTP-capable programs for Windows.FileZilla - http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/files/FileZilla_Client/3.11.0.2/FileZilla_3.11.0.2_win64-setup.exe/download?nowrap (This link doesn't contain a bundled installer)WinSCP - https://winscp.net/eng/docs/start

Hello,

I have a synology diskmanager linux server that I access with my local computers on my home network. My dell optiplex 960 desktop runs windows xp pro, and I was experiencing a 10-15 second stall when I click on the diskstation in my network places, under workgroup. I went through with Dell and they suggested a repartitioning, reformatting and reinstallation of windows xp, which I've done. Unfortunately this did not change the response time. When I called back the support person (bear in mind this is their 'gold' service contract) said it was outside of the scope of services...

So I was hoping that someone could help. Another problem was one of my shared folders on the diskstation could not be viewed from the xp computer. So I created a new folder and copied over these files and it's fine now.

I run Malware (full version), MS Security essentials and firewall.

Thanks,

James

I have a user who is using a domain joined Windows Pro PC She has several printers mapped via a domain print server She uses a VPN to connect to another site with a different Windows domain She logs into the VPN with a user account setup for her on the other domain She then logs into a RDS server using those same credentials The problem is that she is unable to print to any of her local printers from the RD server The local printers show as being redirected on the RD server The redirected printers all look like they're online and Desktop to server while Local are printers offline Remote connected she receives no error when printing but nothing nbsp comes out of the printer However when you view the printers on her PC during an RDS session they are all Local printers are offline while connected to Remote Desktop server showing offline As soon as you disconnect from the RD server and the VPN the local printers come back online and anything she tried to print to a redirected local printer while on the server now prints out I've checked and the print spooler service on her PC never stops so that's not the cause I've checked with another user as user 's location who sits feet away from her and is mapped to Local printers are offline while connected to Remote Desktop server the same local printers She connects to the other domain via VPN using her own credentials on the other domain and logs into that same RDS server She then prints a document to the same redirected printer that user is trying to print to but in this person's case the document prints out and the local printers on her PC never show as being offline while connected to the VPN and RD server I've deleted the VPN connection from user 's PC and re-created it and compared it to user and there is no difference So I'm stumped as to why the locally mapped printers on this user's PC go offline as soon as she connects to the RD server Jonathan

A:Local proxy server refusing connections, Vista 32bit

Hey Matt,

Can you explain your network topology more? Do you have two boxes, one acting as a proxy server, or just one box acting as a proxy server and client to itself?

Just for fun, try unblocking 9999 on your Windows Firewall.

For testing purposes, you may want to DMZ your server. There should be a setting in your firewall. This will rule out your router as the issue.

Other than that, I can't say I have much to offer. I might think of something later once I understand more about your network topology.
