What 2 Pins Do I Short On A Dell 7010 Motherboard To Test Run It?

Q: What 2 Pins Do I Short On A Dell 7010 Motherboard To Test Run It?

The Dell desktop motherboard has a front panel connection with a total of pins and a separate power switch connection Anyone know if it s just a matter of finding the power pins Motherboard What To Pins A Test I Run 7010 2 Do Short It? Dell On to short and start this up or is there more to it I ve tried shorting every pin setup in the front panel and power switch no luck although I suppose it could mean a bad motherboard However without knowing what pins are for power how am I suppose to know for sure Also is it possible that more then pins have to be shorted or touching to start this bleeping dell motherboard I m guessing the power pins that I would have to short are in the power switch connections and therefore I don t have to do anything to the pins in the front panel connections I m hoping there are no other pins that need to be connected besides power pins to get this to start I m not concerned with What 2 Pins Do I Short On A Dell 7010 Motherboard To Test Run It? any other pins except maybe restart nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is an attempt at understanding what makes a power supply wake up.

I believe that you have to short a couple pins in order to make this happen.
Anyone know what pins to short?
Or am I on the wrong track?
I have a Power Supply checker that causes the PS to come to life when it is plugged into the molex connector. However, i am curious if, in the absence of this tester, if I could check the PS with a multimeter.

I had an interesting problem, and there was a previous unanswered, but CLOSED post that discussed the same issue here:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1060893-solved-laptop-cutting-out.html

I wanted to add to this. It seems that through trial and error that the motherboard/power supply is shorting out on a screw on the base of the unit. In particular, the two screws that are NOT on the edges, but towards the center of the laptop. I left those out and the laptop runs fine. I put them in, and I have no power at all. No lights, no fan, nothing on either DC or AC.

Just wanted to add this info in case anyone else comes along with a similar issue.

Hi,

I recently ran a scheduled diagnostic test of my PC with the manufacturer's diagnostic software. I received two error messages and the advice to promptly replace my hard drive. The first message was Failed (Error code: WHD20-1VR) and the second was Failed (Error code: WHD16-T57). The apply to Targeted Read test and Smart Short Self Test respectively.

So I ran Chkdsk for the C: drive and received no error messages.

Which is correct and what should I do about it? The error message won't go away on the software.

Thanks for helping.

A:Question: Failed Targeted Read Test and SMART Short Self Test

CHKDSK is a very basic check that mostly checks file system and can be set to scan for bad sectors. The manufacturer's diagnostics actually check the physical drive to make sure its operating within the designed parameters and is more thorough.

You should replace the drive.

hi Smurfette,

Welcome to the Forums.

The image below is the breakdown on how the LSC error codes mean.
  - Link to picture

The SMART short self-test that failed may have detected some certain sectors on the drive that are bad and predicted an imminent HDD failure so I would recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk and report your findings as you likely need to send the unit for service.

A:G50 - targeted read test and smart short self test...

Hi there, Naveen-
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

The SMART Self-Test Unit means that the diagnostic utility failed to read some certain sectors on the drive and predicted an imminent HDD failure.

If with the test you did you are getting a SMART test or a smart short test failure then I believe you need to back up your data and be ready to replace the drive.

I recommend you contact Lenovo support and report your findings as you likely need to send the unit for service.

Using my 7010 yesterday and suddenly shut down on me. I have tried to diagnose the issue by removing additional cards/memory with no result. I have tested the power supply and it appears to be good. My motherboard has a small white sticker on it which I assume is the model number of the motherboard. It appears to read "OWR7PY"  the "O" could be a "Q".
I have found other SFF boards with model number "GXM1W" that appear to be similar to mine, is this the proper replacement for my 7010 SFF?

We currently have Dell Optiplex 7010 tower in our office. It's using a single Acer G6 G276HL monitor via DVI-I port on the video card. We were thinking to buy a second monitor and I want to know if it's going to work?
The video card inside this Dell is AMD Radeon HD 7470:https://www.amazon.com/radeon-profile-display-desktop-computer/dp/B00CR230G0
I was thinking to get the same screen:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G5AEZOQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1The issue is connecting it to the display port on the Radeon card. So I was thinking to get this adapter:https://www.amazon.com/HP-DisplayPort-DVI-D-Adapter-481409-002/dp/B00PHINWX2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470159981&sr=8-2&keywords=display+port+to+dvi-d

A:Trying to set up second screen for Dell Optiplex 7010 tower

I presume you're using a DVI-D cable since the current monitor doesn't support DVI-I which the video card supports.
Why not get a second monitor that supports DisplayPort and go directly from DP on the video card to DP on the second monitor without complicating things with that DP>DVI-D adapter?

Hello all,
We just received a shipment of Dell Optiplex 7010s with Core i7 3770s @ 3.10 GHz with 16 gigs of RAM and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chipset.
I am trying to setup 3 monitors, as I had with the old Optiplex 755s and I am having an issue.  All three monitors are detected in Windows and by the Intel configuration utility.  However, when I enable the 3rd display, one of the 3 displays randomly turns off.  As such, I cannot use the 3rd display.
I have 1 Dell E228WFP hooked up via Display Port to DVI, 1 Dell P170S hooked up via Display Port to DVI, and 1 Dell P170S hooked up via VGA.
Has anyone had any luck getting this working?  I have updated to the latest Intel Graphics driver to no luck.
Appreciate any advice you all could give me.
Thanks,
-Mike

I checked at dell's website to see what processors are compatible with the dell optiplex 7010 and the i5 3200, 3400, i5 3500 and i7 3700 series are listed, but the i5 3300 series isn't. Why would the i5 3300 series be left out?
I picked up an i5 3350P cpu thinking it would work with the Q77 chipset (in the dell 7010 description ti stated it would work with the ivy cpus. After trying it with no luck I then did futher research and found that the i5 3300 series isn't listed but all the other ivy cpus are? Why would dell leave out that series or is it just not listed and I have a bad cpu?

A:My Dell 7010 Works With A Celeron G530t Cpu But Not An I5 3550p Cpu?

You do realise that the 3350P doesn't have any graphics onboard? To use it outside of a 'headless' remote-controlled scenario, you'll need a discrete GPU to connect your display to.

I purchased the dell 990 and 7010 motherboards I'm using for builds. Each motherboard has two PCIe X16 slots and I'm hoping I can set these up with 2 graphic cards in crossfire in either motherboard. I will be using a 600 watt PSU for each of them and I have 2 Sapphire R7 260X cards I'd like to use in crossfire in one of them. Is that possible? Are these motherboards crossfire and/or sli compatible?

A:I Purchased 2 Dell Tower Motherboards. The 990 And 7010. Was Wondering If

I am a bit confused. And sadly, you did not give us complete information to go on. Most people don't buy motherboards from Dell, except for repairs under warranty. Did you mean you bought two Dell tower computers? If so, specifically which ones? And what is the brand and model of the PSU, and the Sapphire cards. Note there are 6 different models of the R7 260X.

Note that CrossfireX is used with AMD cards (which your Sapphire's are). SLI is used with NVIDIA cards. Same difference - the idea is the same, to strap two cards together for better performance. And yes, depending on the specific Dells you bought you should be able to use both cards. But I note there is a SFF (small form factor) 990 in a slim case. That may cause problems. If this is the 990, then you should be okay for space. But adequate cooling may be a problem. It is the case's job to provide an adequate supply of cool air flowing through the case. Same issues with the 7010. There are several models within the 7010 line and space and cooling may be issues.

I also worry about your PSU. Sadly, many cut corners in the budget and fail to get a quality 80 PLUS certified power supply. It's like buying a new Porsche then filling it up with generic, possibly watered down fuel at the corner Tobacco and Bait shop. Not good. According to user manual (click Download then scroll down) for the R7 260 card (all models), it says 600W "minimum" supply with two 6-pin power connectors with 2 cards. If you don't have a quality, name brand supply, I would not use two cards.

Hello,

I bought a new case about a week ago and tried it's USB ports..
All worked but one of the USB3 headers didn't..
So I checked the cables, checked everything.. Decided to remove the USB3 plug from the MOBO and what do I see?
2 Pins are missing!

I have no idea how or when.. I tried to search for them, maybe they snaped when I unpluged the cable, but I didn't find anything..
The missing are pins 1 and 2 in the picture..
I think that pin 19 is missing too.. The image kind of faded off my mind right now..

Are those pins the reason why one of the USB3 ports won't work?
What do they mean? What do they do?
Is it safe to even keep the cable connected to the MOBO without those pins?

Thanks.

A:Broken USB Motherboard pins

Pin 1 is power, pin 19 is power and pin 2 is the USB 3 RX- signal, so yeah that's the reason the ports won't work. I can't see any harm in leaving it plugged in.

Really would appreciate any guidance anyone can give on this. As you can see, the first row has 5 pins, while the bottom one only 4.

My case's front panel has 8 pins, labelled
Power
Power
D2+
D2-
Gnd
Gnd
D3+
D3-

As you can understand, the pins of the panel are not grouped together.
Where must each usb panel pin go on the motherboard?

A:motherboard to usb front panel pins

My guess is that the matches are:

+5v ----> power
+5v ----> power
p5- ----> d2-
p5+ ----> d2+
p6- ----> d3-
p6+ ----> d3+
gnd ----> ground
gnd ----> ground
NC ----> unmatched

note that the p5+-,p6+- pins on the two other usb ports on the motherboard, have other names.ie one has p7-,p7+,p8-,p8+ and the other has p9-,p9+,p10-,p10+

Is my assumption correct? if yes, why is NC alone?

As the title says , I accidentally cut a wire between 2 pins (or whatever they are called) and now my PC starts slowing down after 20-25 minutes when I open it. After I restart everything is back to normal but after 20-25 mins its the same again. Is there a way to fix the wire between them or I have to buy a new motherboard? (sry , my english isnt very good. I hope you understood what is my problem) the image is what im talking about ,(the red is the wire) ,I got the motherboard picture from google , so its not mine.

So I picked up a Dell 7010 DT motherboard for cheap. Which, at the time, I thought was a really good deal. So I bring it home and test it out, without going through the trouble of installing it in a case first. Then I started to look at the system panel connector pins to see which 2 I'll have to short out to start it up. Well, I'm still trying to figure it out. Dell must use a proprietary panel connection cause I can't figure it out.

It seems to have a 5 pin power switch connector on the MB that's separate from the system panel connector and I've tried to short the pins in the 5 pin power switch will no luck. Does anyone have any sort of schematic of how this is suppose to be hooked up? Thanks.

A:Baffled By The System Panel Connector Of A Dell 7010 Desktop Computer Mb

I found this

I did some digging around, and Dell uses proprietary plugs.
To fix power:
Connect up the PSU and everything.
Using a paperclip, touch two pins on the PWR_SW.
If nothing happens, proceed to next pair.
One of the pairs should start the computer up.Click to expand...

Just to clarify that I'm not being silly. Bought a brand new Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-UD5H Motherboard off of amazon. Was from a company selling through amazon. Product arrived with antistatic bag open which confused me a little. Contacted seller and was told its because the I/O shield is missing which is why it was cheaper than the others sold there.

Come to put a CPU in it and after removing protective cover some pins seem to be bent. Its an lga1155 socket and from images on google (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Intel_Socket_1155.jpeg) the pins look like that however a few look bent straight upwards. Is it suppose to be like this or is it broken?

None of the pins should be bent upwards. An I/O shield is one thing (presuming that it was advertised, or you knew it was missing when it was purchased), but I would return it if it has bent pins.

Hi everyone, I have a problem.
I pinmodded an LGA771 Xeon to work with my LGA775 motherboard. I decided to do it the hard way and use aluminum foil and tape to pin mod it. I think it worked out fine but anyway, on to the problem.

When I cut off the LGA775 alignment pieces, I accidentally bent 2 pins out of shape a little. Initially, I didn't notice, so I put in the Xeon to try it out, didn't work.
Then I tried my old processor, also didn't work (worked fine previously).

So then I noticed the pins and bent them back into shape, AFAIK it is perfect and you can't even tell that anything happened.
Tried both CPUs, nothing, no beeps, no signal to the monitor.

Is it possible to damage my motherboard if I didn't do the pinmod correctly?
Is it possible that I damaged my processor or motherboard by trying to run it with those 2 pins out of place?

Help please

A:Bent motherboard pins, fixed but now will not boot

I am not really sure, but my guess is you did not do the pinmod correctly since both CPUs do not work. I hope someone else can provide some insight on this issue. Good luck!

Whenever the Hard Disk Short DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue This issue could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc.. HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power AdapterStep 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 SecondsStep 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media) Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. I need an advice for buying a dedicated video card, for my Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF. Curently I have the Intel HD (Intel i3 3240), but I want something more.
Ive found the AMD Radeon HD7470 at a good price, but also the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile).
My question: Will Nvidia Quatro 600 work on my system?
The Dell Optiplex SFF has an 240 W power supply. The PCIex16 Slot (BLUE) (Voltage supported 3.3V/12V) has the maximum wattage = 50 W, and the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile) has the maximum power consumption = 40 W.
And, if I want to upgrade my CPU to i7 3770 in the future, will the power be enough?

When I get a new hard drive can I use the Windows 7 code that's on my computer or will I have to re-buy Windows 7? Are there any tutorials for replacing the main hard drive? Thanks

A:SMART Short Self Test Fail

Well the drive may fail sooner or later but its a good idea to get another. Yes, you can use the key on the sticker on the computer to activate windows. Better still, while the current drive is still alive, just save an image of the windows install using Macrium free or Acronis to an external drive, then you can just restore to the new drive- you wont even need to use the sticker code.

Imaging with free Macrium

Heres how to replace your hard drive:

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the result of "SMART short self-test" returns an error code, the hard drive has indeed failed or is about to. Then you may want to do a repair or have a new hard disk.

Take a backup of all your data while the hard drive can still be accessed and contact Lenovo Technical support if you are under warranty.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

A:DST Short Status Test Error

SMART is a hard drive error reporting feature available on SOME (not all) hard drives, via hard drive firmware.

Check your BIOS Setup and see if it is enabled. IF the HD has the feature you will be able to enable it. It is an option usually in the same window listing your hard drives.

I ran extensive diagnostics. The Hard disk Short DST test failed with failure id 6APNXA-70585V-MFPWWK-60SK03. Does this mean I have to replace my hard drive? My laptop's product ID is  F6C92PA#ACJ and I have Win10 -64 installed on it.

My laptop HP ENVY 15-j059nr Quad Edition Notebook PC fails to start. I ran the HP UEFI quick test diagnostics using ESC + f2 on reboot the  hard disk failed the Short DST test with failure code 64NC9H-6TA85K-MFGJWK-60ST03. What does this code mean.

A:Hard disk Short DST test failed

Hi, The 24 character error code does confirm a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with your description of the issue. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know. Regards, DP-K

HP diagnostics returned error code 9lhvwc-5rg85u-mfh15f-60t903 during a hard drive short self test this evening. Prior to the test, the disk drive was working very slowly, as if it had trouble reading data. I am able to log in with windows in it's normal mode, but the drive performs poorly. Safe mode is better. I own an HP dv7-6175us with serial number 5ch134ijx7.

A:Hard Drive failure during short test

I suspect it's an issue with the header, because the disk drive was also clicking, and it was the click you hear when the accelerometer halts the hard drive. I suspect it's impact/shock damage. It was repeatedly clicking for about 5 time before I shut it down manually.

Hi,            The failure ID refers to Hard disk drive failure. If the unit is under warranty, then you can call the HP Support to get the Hard disk drive replaced if not you have to get the Hard disk drive replaced yourself and then reinstall the operating system using recovery disk.

SMART Short Self Test - Failed HD521-2W

Please recommend best solution: Clone and replace WD Hard Drive?  If so, what is recommended WD replacement model?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

A:SMART Short Self Test - Failed HD521-2W

> Clone and replace WD Hard Drive?  If so, what is recommended WD replacement model? Your current disk-drive is 1000 GB.  So, any 1000 GB or 2000 GB drive will work, without any worries.Anything larger might have an issue, if the motherboard is "older". Note that WD offers a download of free "disk-cloning" software, as long as either the "source" or the "target" disk-drive was manufactured by WD. How "full" is your current drive?  Buy a new hard-drive, and backup all your data/files/music/pictures/bookmarks to it,while your current disk-drive is still working OK.  Or, "clone" your current disk-drive to the new drive. If the disk-drive is still under warranty from WD, WD will replace it.  You might have to pay for shipping it to WD. If the disk-drive is out-of-warranty, WD sometimes has a "customer loyalty" program.You tell WD the serial-number of the drive, and you get a discount on theh purchase of a new disk-drive from WD's online-store, and you don't have to return your current disk-drive.

Hi I am trying to recover some data from a laptop HDD - I already have a caddy but when I remove the HDD from the laptop the connectors are different - (Not SATA V IDE) - it is an IDE but it has different shaped pins to what my caddy will accept ?

Any Ideas what type of caddy I would need to buy - to be able to access this data

You need a caddy/adapter that includes a 2.5" IDE (laptop) connector.Yours probably only has 3.5 (desktop)
Some have connectors for all hard drive types - IDE,SATA 2.5,3.5

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.  Yes, the files can most likely still be retrieved.  To do this, you would need to take the hard drive out of the notebook and connect it directly to a desktop computer or insert it into an external hard drive dock/cradle and browse to the files you need.  If you feel this is too difficult then you could take it to a local computer repair store and they'll be able to do this for you (for their fee). Once you've got the old drive out, you can have another put in and recover the operating system using the HP Recovery Media and it'll put the notebook back into the same condition as it came out of the box.

Hello everyone, About a month and a half ago, I've bought the mentioned laptop. During the first week of using it, I've noticed that somehing is wrong, so I ran some tests in Lenovo Solution Center. HDD had faild it, so I've contacted your service immidiately, and they replaced it with a new HDD.  The laptop was in service for like 27 days, and when I got it, I had a problem booting up a system... When it finally started to work I couldn't download and install drivers normally, it stared to freeze, aborted the actions etc. Like the last time, I managed to download Lenovo Soultion Center and ran the tests, again. The result of the test was Warning for SMART Short Self Test and SMART Drive Self test. Can you somehow advise me what to do? Thanks in advance.  Result code: WHD01V000-HL0Y9G

A:Lenovo Y50-70 SMART Short and Drive Self Test Warn...

Hi Dakilajk ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would be best to contact tech support for the recommendation and decode of WHD01V000-HL0Y9G ,
and since you are experiencing freezing at this moment , back up your files as needed .

You may also run counter scan using similar diagnostic software as this to check further and verify the detected imminent drive read failure . SMART test are pre detection software to alert users to back up their files if the integrity test falls its set standard each different from different harddrive manufacturers ( example seagate , Western Digital etc.) .

LSC may be a bit sensitive to its SMART detection but then if you are having freezing issue , most likely it is doing its job as expected.

My laptop will not boot, the screen comes on and the dell logo is there and the lights flash around the like it's trying to boot and then it goes dark and that's it.  When I check the setup it can find the hard drive, it lists it by the HDD.  When I run diagnostics it fails with short test unsuccessful.  I have reseated the hard drive and tried to reboot,  but it is not working.  I'd like to run chkdsk /r from the command console like I saw in one of the possible solutions, but I don't know how to get to the command console.  I'm thinking I need a new hard drive but I would like to try everything to save this one first.

hi, the 'dst' means drive short test, so a problem is showing on your hard drive. You may want to consider running the longer test offered in the diagnostics section on your hard drive, but of course running tests on a failing drive has a risk attached. Do you have all your files backed up? If not, do you have another computer available, you could slave the drive to it in order to try to get your files off. Or, Can you get in to safe mode on your inspiron, as you start the notebook press the F8 key up and down to get to the safe mode menu. If you can do this back up your files before running the extended test.

Suddenly my dell latitude d620 stopped working. Message when I boot the laptop is "Start DST Short Test - no hard drive detected - error 1000-0141".

I removed the hard drive (hitachigst travelstar) and placed another one from another laptop. The laptop worked well. I placed the 1st hard drive in the 2nd laptop. I got the same error as above.

So is something wrong with the hard drive???

When I shake it gently, I can hear a small part moving inside. This doesnt happen in the 2nd hard drive. So is something broken too?

I just changed out components from a mini-tower to a larger tower because the power supply died. I couldn't get the same size and the new one wouldn't fit in old case. The monitor now stays in sleep mode. All connections are good and have tried a new card and different monitor with no luck. Mobo may have a short but I am definitely no expert. I would like to hear from someone who is! The monitor worked after I got everything changed and once since the problem began. Could it be a short or a grounding problem or ???

A:Short in motherboard?

Take the MB out of the case and put it on something to insulate it, a stack of newspaper works fine. Plug in the expansion boards and P/S, and fire it up. It'll should work just fine outside of the case, and if so, you have a short, probably on one of the mounting posts.
